Abstract This paper addresses to structures and properties of the cryptographic information protection algorithm model based on NPNs and constructed on an SP-network. The main task of the research is to increase the cryptostrength of the algorithm. In the paper, the transformation resulting in the improvement of the cryptographic strength of the algorithm is described in detail. The proposed model is based on an SP-network. The reasons for using the SP-network in this model are the conversion properties used in these networks. In the encryption process, transformations based on S-boxes and P-boxes are used. It is known that these transformations can withstand cryptanalysis. In addition, in the proposed model, transformations that satisfy the requirements of the “avalanche effect” are used. As a result of this work, a computer program that implements an encryption algorithm model based on the SP-network has been developed.

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) has emerged recently due to its advancements and applications in various scientific and industrial fields. WSN consists a set of low cost and readily deployable sensors to monitor targets and recognise the physical phenomena. The principal challenge in WSN is to deploy these sensor nodes in optimal positions to achieve efficient network. Such network should satisfy the quality of service requirements in order to achieve high performance levels. Hence, this paper focuses on target Q-coverage problem where each target requires different number of sensors to monitor them. A Sequential Vertex Coloring based Sensor Placement (SVC-SP) algorithm is proposed to determine the number of sensors required and its optimal spot to satisfy the coverage quality requirement. The SVC-SP algorithm determines sensor requirement by partitioning the target set into independent subsets depending on the target’s position and the sensor’s sensing range. Each independent set consists set of targets that are nearer in the network such that a common sensor is sufficient to monitor them. The cardinality of such independent subsets provides the sensor requirement for target coverage. The optimal spot for each target is determined by the mean positioning of the targets in each independent set. This process is repeated until the q-requirement for each target is satisfied. Further, to improve the optimal spot for sensors, the random based SVC-SP algorithm, cuckoo search based SVC-SP algorithm and the genetic algorithm based SVC-SP algorithm are utilized. The simulation results show that genetic algorithm based SVC-SP algorithm performs better than other existing algorithms.

Mathematical modelling for nitrogen concentration in mycelium (N) during Pleurotus sp. cultivation had successfully been produced using multiple linear regression. Two different substrates were used to cultivate the Pleurotus sp. which were empty palm fruit bunch (EFB) and sugarcane bagasse (SB). Both substrates were collected and prepared as the selected factors which were type of substrate (SB - A and EFB - B), size of substrates (0.5 cm and 2.5 cm), mass ratio of spawn to substrate (SP/SS) (1:10 and 1:14), temperature during spawn running (25°C and ambient) and pre-treatment of substrates (steam and non-steam). The response was nitrogen concentration in mycelium (N). This paper presents the application of artificial neural network to improve the modelling process. Artificial neural network is one of the machine learning method which use the cultivation process information and extract the pattern from the data. Neural network ability to learn pattern by changing the connection weight had produced a trained network which represent the Pleurotus sp. cultivation process. Next this trained network was validated using error measurement to determine the modelling accuracy. The results show that the artificial neural network modelling produced better results with higher accuracy and lower error when compared to the mathematical modelling.

Increasingly complex network heterogeneity and network monitoring tasks become the management concentration of a large distributed production infrastructure with various business services requiring a centralized control monitoring system, with increasing network size, heterogeneity and complexity. The network monitoring and management solutions available are not only expensive but also difficult to use, configure and maintain. Manually routing pins to the wrong device on a large complex network is very complicated and time-consuming for Service Provider (SP). Thus, it is necessary to have an automatic system that immediately reports to the network Service Provider (SP) monitoring system regarding the type of error or alert, Network Availability and Service Level Agreement (SLA). This research presents the modeling design and implementation of Network Availability and SLA network systems for Service Provider (SP) organizations, by being based on open-source programming tools (Zabbix System) and intelligently integrating to monitor network devices, especially to get Network Availability and SLA parameters and values on a customer or customer. Monitoring Customers devices in the network in the form of a module alert parameter that will be applied so that it is seen and can be said to be a universal Plug & Play technology concept (UPnP). Monitoring system developed will provide value and quality of service (qos) output parameters in the form of measuring and taking test value parameters Network Availability and SLA modeling, which will produce an accurate Service Level Agreement (SLA) value parameter test, and become a reference for an agreement between a service provider and a customer. As a guarantee or link availability for the services provided by Service Provide (SP) to customers. With the SLA value fulfilled at 99.9% with a 99.5% agreement, Network availability is met with a percentage of 98.89% and Down time with a percentage of only 1% of the agreement 2%, and the latency value of the terrestrial transmission media obtained is 2 ms, from the 8 ms agreement and the obtained VSAT transmission media is 500-600 ms from the agreement latency value is 700 ms.

In recent years, the static shortest path (SP) routing problem has been well addressed using intelligent optimization techniques, e.g., artificial neural networks (ANNs), genetic algorithms (GAs), particle swarm optimization (PSO), etc. However, with the advancement in wireless communications, more and more mobile wireless networks appear, e.g., mobile ad hoc network (MANET), wireless mesh network (WMN), etc. One of the most important characteristics in mobile wireless networks is the topology dynamics, that is, the network topology changes over time due to energy conservation or node mobility. Therefore, the SP routing problem in MANETs turns out to be a dynamic optimization problem. This paper proposes to use two types of hyper-mutation GAs to solve the dynamic SP routing problem in MANETs. The authors consider MANETs as target systems because they represent new generation wireless networks. The experimental results show that the two hyper-mutation GAs can quickly adapt to the environmental changes (i.e., the network topology change) and produce good solutions after each change.

MicroRNAs (miRNA), and more recently long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA), are emerging as a driving force for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), one of the leading causes of cancer-related death. In this work, we investigated a possible RNA regulatory network involving two oncosuppressive miRNAs, miR-125a and let-7e, and a long non-coding antisense RNA, SPACA6P-AS (SP-AS), all transcribed from the same locus, with SP-AS in the opposite direction and thus carrying complementary sequences to the miRNAs. In vitro experiments validated the binding of the miRNAs to SP-AS. Then, the boosting of either the miRNAs or SP-AS levels demonstrated their reciprocal inhibition. In addition, overexpression of SP-AS resulted in a reduced silencing activity of miR-125a and let-7e toward their key oncogenic targets, i.e., Lin28b, MMP11, SIRT7, Zbtb7a, Cyclin D1, CDC25B, HMGA2, that resulted significantly upregulated. Finally, the analysis of 374 HCC samples in comparison to 50 normal liver tissues showed an upregulation of SP-AS and a reverse expression of miR-125a, not observed for let-7e; consistently, miR-125a oncogenic targets were upregulated. Overall, the data depict a novel competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network, ceRNET, whereby miR-125a can regulate the expression of SP-AS, which in turn regulates the miRNA by competing with the binding to the mRNA targets. We speculate that the unbalancing of any network component may contribute to hepatocarcinogenesis.

Purpose While controlling for supply chain effects, the purpose of this paper is to investigate if globalization and collaborative integration within a firm-wide manufacturing network have significant implications for the adoption of sustainable production (SP) and sustainable sourcing (SS) practices at the plant level. Design/methodology/approach The authors conceptualize SP and SS as process innovations with moderate degrees of innovativeness and apply “Organizational integration and process innovation” theory to build our conceptual model. Then, the authors use primary survey data from 471 assembly manufacturing plants operating in the US, Europe and Asia to test our hypotheses rigorously. Findings This research finds that the adoption of SP practices at the plant level is significantly and positively associated with globalization and integration of the firm-wide manufacturing network. On the contrary, the adoption of SS practices is more strongly affected by integration in the external supply chain and benefits from the manufacturing network only indirectly, through the association with SP practices. Originality/value Operations management literature devoted to sustainability has studied sustainable practices mostly from a risk management angle. Also, there exists contrasting evidence in the operations strategy literature about the positive and negative effects that globalization of a manufacturing network may have on the adoption of sustainable practices at the plant level. Moreover, several studies show how integration with supply chain partners helps manufacturing plants transition into more SP and SS practices; however, related literatures have neglected that collaborative integration within a firm-wide manufacturing network may also help to develop, or adapt to, new sustainable practices. This research represents a first attempt to resolve discordance and unveil the positive effects that manufacturing networks may have on sustainable innovations at the plant level.

Purpose This study aims to present an empirical model related to strategic performance (SP) of the hospitality industry. It focuses on the role of network capability (NC) in defining SP through the mediating role of structural flexibility (SF). Furthermore, the interaction effect of NC and top management commitment to strategic performance (MCSP) on SP is also tested. Design/methodology/approach A sample of 279 managerial-level employees of four-star and five-star hotels has been used to confirm the proposed hypotheses by using the technique of structural equation modeling. Findings The results reveal that NC positively affects SP. Moreover, the mediating role of SF in defining the nexus of NC and SP has also been confirmed. Results of moderation analysis reveal that MCSP strengthens the relationship between NC and SP. Research limitations/implications This study used a cross-sectional design for data collection, which prevents strong causal inferences. Practical implications In developing countries, it has been observed that the hospitality industry pays less attention to its strategic targets. Therefore, this study suggests that organization operating in the tourism and hospitality industry should pay greater attention toward synergies and business networks to achieve SP. Originality/value This research enriches the prevailing knowledge by testing a mediating role of SF between NC-SP link and, therefore, makes an important addition to the existing knowledge on tourism and hospitality industry by concentrating on the relationship between NC, SF, MCSP and SP.

The routing strategy plays a very important role in complex networks such as Internet system and Peer-to-Peer networks. However, most of the previous work concentrates only on the path selection, e.g. Flooding and Random Walk, or finding the shortest path (SP) and rarely considering the local load information such as SP and Distance Vector Routing. Flow-based Routing mainly considers load balance and still cannot achieve best optimization. Thus, in this paper, we propose a novel dynamic routing strategy on complex network by incorporating the local load information into SP algorithm to enhance the traffic flow routing optimization. It was found that the flow in a network is greatly affected by the waiting time of the network, so we should not consider only choosing optimized path for package transformation but also consider node congestion. As a result, the packages should be transmitted with a global optimized path with smaller congestion and relatively short distance. Analysis work and simulation experiments show that the proposed algorithm can largely enhance the network flow with the maximum throughput within an acceptable calculating time. The detailed analysis of the algorithm will also be provided for explaining the efficiency.

Background: Cystic fibrosis-related diabetes (CFRD) has become more common due to higher life expectancy with cystic fibrosis. Early recognition and prompt treatment of CFRD leads to improved outcomes. Methods: We performed a network meta-analysis (NMA) in order to identify the most valuable diagnostic metrics for diagnosing CFRD out of available screening tools (index test), using the oral glucose tolerance test as a reference standard. Pooled sensitivity (Se), specificity (Sp), and superiority indices were calculated and used to rank the index tests. Results: A total of 31 articles with 25 index tests were eligible for inclusion. Two-day, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) ranked the highest (Se: 86% Sp: 76%), followed by glucose measurement from blood capillary samples (Se: 70%, Sp: 82%) and three-day CGM (Se: 96%, Sp: 56%). When we compared the CGM of different durations, two-day CGM performed best (Se: 88%, Sp: 80%), followed by three-day (Se: 96%, Sp: 59%) and six-day CGM (Se: 66%, Sp: 79%). Conclusions: Considering its overall performance ranking, as well as the high sensitivity, two-day CGM appears to be a promising screening test for CFRD.

An artificial neural network (ANN) was used to predict the biosorption of methylene blue on Spirulina sp. biomass. Genetic and anneal algorithms were tested with different quantity of neurons at the hidden layers to determine the optimal neurons in the ANN architecture. In addition, sensitivity analyses were conducted with the optimised ANN architecture for establishing which input variables (temperature, pH, and biomass dose) significantly affect the predicted data (removal efficiency or biosorption capacity). A number of isotherm models were also compared with the optimised ANN architecture. The removal efficiency or the biosorption capacity of MB on Spirulina sp. biomass was adequately predicted with the optimised ANN architecture by using the genetic algorithm with three input neurons, and 20 neurons in each one of the two hidden layers. Sensitivity analyses demonstrated that initial pH and biomass dose show a strong influence on the predicted removal efficiency or biosorption capacity, respectively. When supplying two variables to the genetic algorithm, initial pH and biomass dose improved the prediction of the output neuron (biosorption capacity or removal efficiency). The optimised ANN architecture predicted the equilibrium data 5,000 times better than the best isotherm model. These results demonstrate that ANN can be an effective way of predicting the experimental biosorption data of MB on Spirulina sp. biomass.

For many years various types of devices equipped with sensors have guaranteed proper work in a huge amount of machines and systems. For the proper operation of sensors, devices, and complex systems, we need secure communication. Security protocols (SP) in this case, guarantee the achievement of security goals. However, the design of SP is not an easy process. Sometimes SP cannot realise their security goals because of errors in their constructions and need to be investigated and verified in the case of their correctness. Now SP uses often time primitives due to the necessity of security dependence on the passing of time. In this work, we propose and investigate the SAT-and SMT-based formal verification methods of SP used in communication between devices equipped with sensors. For this, we use a formal model based on networks of communicating timed automata. Using this, we show how the security property of SP dedicated to the sensors world can be verified. In our work, we investigate such timed properties as delays in the network and lifetimes. The delay in the network is the lower time constraint related to sending the message. Lifetime is an upper constraint related to the validity of the timestamps generated for the transmitted messages.

Nowadays, harvesting energy (EH) from green environmental sources and converting this energy into the electrical energy used in purpose to supply the communication network devices is considered the main research direction. In this research, we investigate the hybrid TSR-PSR Nonlinear Energy Harvesting (EH) Half-duplex (HD) Relaying network in terms of the Success Probability (SP). For this purpose, we derive the integral-form of the system SP. In addition, we use the Monte Carlo simulation for verifying the correctness of the analytical expression. We can see in the research results that all the simulation and analytical values are the same in connection with all primary system parameters.

Fuzzy system is known to predict model in the electrodialysis process. This paper aimed to predict separation percent(SP) of NaCl solution as a function of concentration, temperature, flow rate and voltage. Besides, in the MATLAB, ANFIS(Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System) based on Sugeno fuzzy model, its structure was similar to neural network and could generate fuzzy rules automatically. We obtained fitted values of SP by ANFIS. Then, we studied these influencing factors on fitted values of SP. Finally, we draw a conclusion that SP is in direct proportion to temperature and voltage, but in inverse proportion to concentration and flow rate.

ObjectivesThis article investigates various motives for sickness presence (SP) among students in secondary school.DesignCross-sectional study.Setting25 secondary schools in Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Italy and Latvia.Participants5002 students between 16 and 19 years of age, 49% female.ResultsAlmost half of the students reported two or more incidents of SP. The study indicated that the practice of SP was mainly extrinsically motivated. The most often reported motives for SP were that absence could affect grades negatively, that important curriculum material was explained at the school and attendance requirements. Some students practising SP expressed intrinsic motivation, such as maintaining their social network and interest in what was learnt at school.ConclusionThe study investigated various motives for SP in secondary schools in five European countries. Extrinsic motivation for SP was more often reported than intrinsic motivation for SP. Multivariate analyses indicated that boys, students in vocational education, immigrants and students with low-educated parents more often reported intrinsic motivation for SP, while girls and students with high absence more often reported extrinsic motivation. There were also notable cross-country differences regarding reported motives for SP.

Two alpha growth form species of boring sponges, Clionapocillopora sp. nov. and Cliona mucronata are described from coral reefs in the Mexican Pacific Ocean. Clionapocillopora sp. nov. is a light brown sponge containing tylostyles that measure 146×5 μm. Tylostyles are generally curved and have a globular or mucronated head, sometimes placed at some distance from the proximal end. In addition, straight, short and thick tylostrongyles and centrotylote oxea occasionally appear. Cliona mucronata is reported for the first time in the eastern Pacific Ocean. It is a red to red-orange sponge with two types of tylostyles, long and slender tylostyles, and short ensiform tylostyles. Both species have been found exclusively excavating corals of the genus Pocillopora. The boring activity of Clionapocillopora sp. nov. produces a network of galleries with mainly rectangular or polygonal chambers measuring from 0.7 to 2.4 mm in diameter, and C. mucronata produces a network of reticulate galleries with irregularly spherical or ovoid chambers 1.14×0.67 mm in diameter.

Substance P (SP)–containing afferents and the NK-1 tachykinin receptor to which SP binds are present in the dentate gyrus of the rat; however, direct actions of SP on principal cells have not been demonstrated in this brain region. We have examined the effect of SP on N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) channels from acutely isolated dentate gyrus granule cells of adult rat hippocampus to assess the ability of SP to regulate glutamatergic input. SP produces a robust enhancement of single NMDA channel function that is mimicked by the NK-1–selective agonist Sar9, Met(O2)11-SP. The SP-induced prolongation of NMDA channel openings is prevented by the selective NK-1 receptor antagonist (+)-(2 S,3 S)-3-(2-methoxybenzylamino)-2-phenylpiperidine (CP-99,994). Calcium influx or activation of protein kinase C were not required for the SP-induced increase in NMDA channel open durations. The dramatic enhancement of excitatory amino acid–mediated excitability by SP places this neuropeptide in a key position to gate activation of hippocampal network activity.

Diabetes is one of the most serious chronic diseases. Numerous drugs including oral agents and traditional Chinese medicines, such as sitagliptin phosphate (SP) and Fuzhujiangtang granules (FJG), have been discovered to treat diabetes and used in combination in clinical practice. However, the exact effect and underlying mechanism of using combined medicine is not clear. In this study, we compared the antidiabetic effect of SP, FJG, and SP plus FJG (SP-FJG) using forty 8-week-old Zucker diabetic fatty (ZDF) rats and 10 age-matched Zucker lean rats as the normal control group. ZDF rats were treated with different therapies, respectively, for 6 weeks. The study showed that the fast blood glucose, random blood glucose (RBG), oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), insulin tolerance test (ITT), homeostasis model of assessment-insulin resistance index, triglyceride (TC), superoxide dismutase, and malondialdehyde of each treatment group were improved when compared with the diabetes mellitus (DM) control group. Using SP-FJG in combination had better improvements in OGTT, fast serum insulin levels, TNF-α, and IL-6 compared with using SP individually. Besides, the increased LDL and TC caused by using SP was attenuated by using FJG in combination. Meanwhile, compared with the DM group, 1781 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) (including 1248 mRNA, 211 ncRNA, 202 cirRNA, and 120 miRNA) were enriched in 58 pathways. Through analysis of ceRNA networks, we found that rno-miR-326-3p, rno-miR-423-5p, rno-miR-15b-5p, rno-let-7c-5p, and rno-let-7b-5p were related to pharmacodynamics in different groups. By analyzing the protein-protein interaction (PPI) and coexpression networks of the transcriptomes of different groups, it is inferred that Lrrk2 and Irak3 may be pharmacodynamic genes for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Our research compared the treatment of SP, FJG, and SP-FJG and acquainted the PPI network, coexpression network, mutations, and pharmacodynamics genes, which reveals the new mechanisms of pathogenesis of T2DM.

Purpose. For individualized follow-up, accurate prediction of locoregional recurrence (LRR) and second primary (SP) breast cancer risk is required. Current prediction models employ regression, but with large data sets, machine-learning techniques such as Bayesian Networks (BNs) may be better alternatives. In this study, logistic regression was compared with different BNs, built with network classifiers and constraint- and score-based algorithms. Methods. Women diagnosed with early breast cancer between 2003 and 2006 were selected from the Netherlands Cancer Registry (NCR) ( N = 37,320). BN structures were developed using 1) Bayesian network classifiers, 2) correlation coefficients with different cutoffs, 3) constraint-based learning algorithms, and 4) score-based learning algorithms. The different models were compared with logistic regression using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, an external validation set obtained from the NCR from 2007 and 2008 ( N = 12,308), and subgroup analyses for a high- and low-risk group. Results. The BNs with the most links showed the best performance in both LRR and SP prediction (c-statistic of 0.76 for LRR and 0.69 for SP). In the external validation, logistic regression generally outperformed the BNs in both SP and LRR (c-statistic of 0.71 for LRR and 0.64 for SP). The differences were nonetheless small. Although logistic regression performed best on most parts of the subgroup analysis, BNs outperformed regression with respect to average risk for SP prediction in low- and high-risk groups. Conclusions. Although estimates of regression coefficients depend on other independent variables, there is no assumed dependence relationship between coefficient estimators and the change in value of other variables as in the case of BNs. Nonetheless, this analysis suggests that regression is still more accurate or at least as accurate as BNs for risk estimation for both LRRs and SP tumors.

Nitrogen forms can regulate soil-borne Fusarium wilt suppression, but the related mechanisms are largely unknown, especially possible action via the rhizospheric microbial community. Soil analysis, MiSeq high-throughput sequencing analysis, community diversity, and network analysis were used to characterize the impact of different nitrogen forms (nitrate and ammonium) on rhizospheric fungal communities and the contribution of nitrate to the suppression to Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cucumerinum compared with ammonium. Nitrate-grown cucumber showed a lower disease index and F. oxysporum f. sp. cucumerinum abundance in the rhizosphere. In comparisons with ammonium nutrients, nitrate-fed plants maintained a higher soil rhizosphere pH, microbial biomass carbon content, microbial biomass nitrogen content, as well as fungal community richness and diversity following F. oxysporum f. sp. cucumerinum incubation. All these factors were negatively related with disease index. Network analysis showed fewer nodes and edges in the ammonium treatments compared with nitrate treatments. The relative abundance of Pathotroph-Saprotroph, Pathotroph-Saprotroph-Symbiotroph, and Saprotroph fungi explained 82% of the variability of rhizosphere F. oxysporum f. sp. cucumerinum abundance. In conclusion, after pathogen inoculation under nitrate nutrition, the less-affected microbial composition, community diversity, and community internal relations, which resulted from the more diverse and robust microbial population, potentially contributed to greater Fusarium wilt suppression.

Detection of the early stages of stress is crucial in stabilizing crop yields and agricultural production. The aim of this study was to construct a nondestructive and robust method to predict the early physiological drought status of the tomato (Solanum lycopersicum); for this purpose, a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based model with a one-dimensional (1D) kernel for fitting the visible and near infrared (Vis/NIR) spectral data was proposed. To prevent degradation and enhance the feature comprehension of the deep neural network architecture, residual and global context modules were embedded in the proposed 1D-CNN model, yielding the 1D spectrogram power net (1D-SP-Net). The 1D-SP-Net outperformed the 1D-CNN, partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLSDA), and random forest (RF) models in model testing, demonstrating an accuracy of 96.3%, precision of 98.0%, Matthew’s correlation coefficient of 0.92, and an F1 score of 0.95. Furthermore, when employing various synthesized imbalanced data sets, the proposed 1D-SP-Net remained robust and consistent, outperforming the other models in terms of the prediction capabilities. These results indicate that the 1D-SP-Net is a promising model resistant to the effects of imbalanced data sets and able to determine the early drought stress status of tomato seedlings in a non-invasive manner.

Soft tissue injury accounts for approximately 44% of all wounds in both the military and civilian populations. Following injury to soft tissue, Substance P (SP) and other neuropeptides are released by cutaneous neurons and modulate the function of immunocompetent and inflammatory cells, as well as epithelial and endothelial cells. The interaction between these components of the nervous system and multiple target cells affecting cutaneous repair is of increasing interest. In this report, we describe the effects of SP on wound repair in a novel, laser-induced, skin-wound model. Gross and histologic examination of laser-induced injury revealed that exogenously administered SP affects wound healing via neurite outgrowth, in addition to adhesion molecule and neurokinin-1 receptor involvement in vivo. All SP effects were decreased by pretreatment with Spantide II, an SP antagonist. The elucidation of SP-mediating mechanisms is crucial to firmly establishing the involvement and interaction of the peripheral nervous system and the immune system in cutaneous repair. Findings presented here suggest that SP participates in the complex network of mediators involved in cutaneous inflammation and wound healing.

The article is an attempt at the reverse engineering of conceptual architecture and logic of David Bloor's Strong Programme (SP) in the sociology of scientific knowledge via explicating key resources and interpretative techniques for constructing it. To do this I show how problematic is a conventional interpretation of the SP as a radicalization of Kuhn's theory of science and as a sociologization of epistemology. This problematization allows me to put anew three questions concerning the SP. In what sense it is post-positivist? In what sense it is sociological? Does it belong to social epistemology? To answer these questions I set myself four tasks. First, Bloor’s theoretical position concerning the Kuhn-Popper debate is located. Second, I point to and present Mary Hesse’s network model of science (NM) as a crucial theoretical source for the early SP. Third, I analyze in detail how Bloor interpreted and appropriated NM. Finally, I show what theoretical and methodological effects this interpretation had for the SP as presented in 1976. The general layout of the conceptual architecture of SP is modeled on the Hesse’s NM. It combines the principle of correspondence and that of coherence and sees the language of science as a network of predicates and laws segmented by contingent and empirical boundaries and not a priori logical divisions between theory and observation. But Bloor creatively interprets and appropriates NM by the double move of generalization and specification. Whereas Hesse’s NM refers to the functioning of scientific language, in Bloor’s hands, it comes to describe human learning in general inscribed in psychological processes (perception and thinking). As a result, SP is based on a form of psychological empiricism that sees science as a two-storied building. The first floor (perception) ensures correspondence and the second one (thinking) provide conditions of coherence. SP of 1976 is a specific model for the sociological segmentation of the second floor.

For embracing the ubiquitous Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices, edge computing and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) have been enabled in branch offices and homes in the form of virtual Customer-Premises Equipment (vCPE). A Service Provider (SP) deploys vCPE instances as Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) on top of generic physical Customer-Premises Equipment (pCPE) to ease administration. Upon a usage surge of IoT devices at a certain part of the network, vCPU, memory, and other resource limitations of a single pCPE node make it difficult to add new services handling the high demand. In this paper, we present IoT-B&B, a novel architecture featuring resource sharing of pCPE nodes. When a pCPE node has sharable resources available, the SP will utilize its free resources as a “bed-and-breakfast” place to deploy vCPE instances in need. A placement algorithm is also presented to assign vCPE instances to a cost-efficient pCPE node. By keeping vCPE instances at the network edge, their costs of hosting are reduced. Meanwhile, the transmission latencies are maintained at acceptable levels for processing real-time data burst from IoT devices. The traffic load to the remote, centralized cloud can be substantially reduced.

An excessive increase in algae often has various undesirable effects on drinking water supply systems, thus proper management is necessary. Algal monitoring and classification is one of the fundamental steps in the management of algal blooms. Conventional microscopic methods have been most widely used for algal classification, but such approaches are time-consuming and labor-intensive. Thus, the development of alternative methods for rapid, but reliable algal classification is essential where an advanced machine learning technique, known as deep learning, is considered to provide a possible approach for rapid algal classification. In recent years, one of the deep learning techniques, namely the convolutional neural network (CNN), has been increasingly used for image classification in various fields, including algal classification. However, previous studies on algal classification have used CNNs that were arbitrarily chosen, and did not explore possible CNNs fitting algal image data. In this paper, neural architecture search (NAS), an automatic approach for the design of artificial neural networks (ANN), is used to find a best CNN model for the classification of eight algal genera in watersheds experiencing algal blooms, including three cyanobacteria (Microcystis sp., Oscillatoria sp., and Anabaena sp.), three diatoms (Fragilaria sp., Synedra sp., and two green algae (Staurastrum sp. and Pediastrum sp.). The developed CNN model effectively classified the algal genus with an F1-score of 0.95 for the eight genera. The results indicate that the CNN models developed from NAS can outperform conventional CNN development approaches, and would be an effective tool for rapid operational responses to algal bloom events. In addition, we introduce a generic framework that provides a guideline for the development of the machine learning models for algal image analysis. Finally, we present the experimental results from the real-world environments using the framework and NAS.

Анотація:
Background Severe pneumonia (SP) has a high mortality and is responsible for significant healthcare cost. Chinese herbal injections (CHIs) have been widely used in China as a novel and promising treatment option for SP. Therefore, this study will assess and rank the effectiveness of CHIs to provide more sights for the selection of SP treatment. Method Seven databases will be searched, including PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Database, and the Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP) from their inception up to October, 2021. The literatures screening, data extraction and the quality assessment of included studies will be conducted independently by two reviewers. Then Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA) will be performed by WinBUGS 14.0 and STATA 14.0 software. Surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) probability values will be applied to rank the examined treatments. The risk of bias of each included study will be evaluated using the Revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials (ROB 2). Publication bias will be reflected by a funnel plot. Results The results of this NMA will be disseminated through a peer-reviewed journal publication. Conclusion Our study findings maybe reveal which CHI or CHIs will be better in the treatment of SP and provide more therapy strategies for clinical practitioners and patients. Strengths and limitations of this study Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA) can integrate direct evidence with indirect evidence of severe pneumonia treated by Chinese herbal injections to generate a clinically useful ranking of these regimens. This NMA will address Chinese herbal injections for SP and its findings may help to provide more sights for selection of SP treatment. Evidence drawn from an NMA is limited and should be interpreted with caution. We only included studies in Chinese and English languages, which may increase the publication bias.

In this case study the authors created and tested a configurable and expandable spatial patterns (SP) description, identification, and application methodology (SPDIAM) and an SP identification algorithm. SPDIAM allows urban planning and design (UPD) practitioners to describe SP in a computerized manner, identify SP automatically and then apply them in the UPD domain. SPDIAM is based on the space syntax (SS) method and normalized spatial and non-spatial measures and can be used with the statistical social, economic, and environmental indicators, which are related to the urban sustainability and spatial capital. The goal of the case study experiment was to proof a concept of SPDIAM and to identify the rules and the values of the measures used for the SP identification. For this City Layout SP was identified in the vector data of 12 European, North American, and African cities. The experiment results confirmed that SPDIAM is appropriate to describe SP and identify them automatically. The use of the normalized measures enables the comparison of different SP and reduces the degree of the subjectivity of the UPD solutions. SPDIAM no longer relies on statistical information but forms SP based on the probabilistic complex modelling of a city, which lets SPDIAM indicate possible directions of SP future transformation. SPDIAM uses the newly offered measures CENTER and URBAN COMPACTNESS INDEX to identify SP automatically and can add quantitative and qualitative improvement to the spatial network analysis tools in Geographic Information Systems.

Background. Melanomas and melanocytic nevi that change over time display different change patterns, correlated with histopathological features.Methods. We performed a retrospective analysis of the dermoscopic images corresponding to 86 lesions excised due to the changes occurred during the follow-up period in patients at high risk for melanoma, and we drew a comparison between the changes occurring in melanomas and those occurring in melanocytic nevi.Results. There were significant differences between the models of dermoscopic change characteristic to melanoma and those characteristic to melanocytic nevi. We observed changes with high specificity for the diagnosis of melanoma – asymmetric growth (Sp=90%), new structureless grey-blue areas (Sp=97.5%) or new grey-blue network (Sp=96.25%), new pseudopods or radial streaks (Sp=95%).Conclusion. Our study highlights highly specific changes whose presence should raise the suspicion of melanoma and lead to the excision of the lesion.
