Анотація:
The purpose of this study was to know the kinds of figurative language used in selected lyrics of Coldplay song. This research was designed to identify some figurative language by understanding the general meaning when they are used in the lyrics of songs. The technique of descriptive analysis offered to analyze data by reading the data, then identifying the figurative language used in the lyrics of the song. After identifying some figurative languages then they are categorized into some kinds of figurative languages. Then, the general meaning of figurative language by identifying the lexical meaning and contextual meaning of the four selected lyrics of the song are used to analyze the data got from the song. Based on research findings, some figurative languages were found in Coldplay’s selected songs. Most of the figurative language which is used in the lyrics of Coldplay’s selected songs is “Hyperbole” which has a great exaggeration used to emphasize a point, and used for expressive or comic effect. The meanings which were found from the song are classified into connotative meanings. The lyrics of Coldplay’s selected songs tell us about humanity’s social life which contains love, sadness, happiness, spirit and others. In the lyrics of Coldplay’s selected songs, figurative languages are helpful to understand the song. The existence of figurative language is not to complicate the understanding of lyrics but to simplify and clear the understanding of lyrics. The song is very suitable for English Learners who want to improve their English skills in analyzing lyrics that contain figurative language. From the explanation above can be concluded that in analyzing lyrics besides finding figurative language in lyrics, the meanings of the song that contain figurative languages and messages of the song can be understood.

Анотація:
In a song, we can find lyrics which complete and beautify the song and makes the hearer more interested in hearing it. There are many kinds of genres in song. Dangdut is one of them. Nowadays dangdut song is not as good as it used to be and contains uneducated lyrics. In some lyrics, there are many words written using figurative languages. This study focused on analyzing the kinds figurative language that occur in the lyrics of Ayu Ting-Ting’s songs. It consists of four songs. The researchers choose these songs because there are so many figurative languages found in the songs lyrics. Therefore, this reserach examined what types of figurative language and the most dominant are used in Ayu Ting Ting’s songs. The research used descriptive qualitative approach supported by quantitative data in order to explore behaviour, perspective, feeling, and experience as figurative meaning. This research carried out by formulating problem, collecting data, classifying data and analyzing data. After investigating the sentence in the songs lyrics, the researchers found five kinds of figurative language and four songs lyrics that have figurative language. From 4 songs lyrics, there are 9 items of hyperbole, 3 items of metaphor, 11 items of personification, 7 items in paradox, and 1 item of oxymoron. The dominant of figurative language used in the song lyrics is personification and the least is oxymoron.

This research is titled "Figurative Language Analysis In Disney Song". The background of this research is to understand the use of figurative language contained in Disney song lyrics from the films Frozen and Tangled (Rapunzel). The objectives of this research are: (1) What types of figurative language are contained in the song, (2) figurative language functions contained in the song lyrics, and (3) what implicit meanings are contained in the lyrics of the song. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive in observation, collecting data and conclusions from the research. The results of this study indicate that there are 5 types of figurative languages used in the lyrics of the two songs including idioms, hyperbole, personification, simile and alliteration.

Figurative language is one kind of the language styles to make the expression and the message of the speaker or writer is strengthened. Figurative language usually used in song lyrics. Sometimes, figurative languages existed in song lyrics can’t be understandable. One of the song lyrics that has a lot of figurative languages is songs from Sinestesia album by Efek Rumah Kaca. Therefore, this research is trying to analyze figurative languages existed in song lyrics on Efek Rumah Kaca’s album titled Sinestesia. The research is focused on analyzing type of figurative languages with its meaning by using Kennedy’s theory of classification of figurative language (1983) and Ogden and Richard’s theory of meaning (1923). Qualitative descriptive is the method that used for this research. The result of this research is 4 type of figurative languages is found, which is 25 personifications, 18 metaphors, 15 overstatements, and 2 apostrophes with each of figurative language’s meaning is elaborated. Besides of it, the writer found that figurative languages existed in the Sinestesia album’s song lyrics has a connection to the song itself.

This study aimed to find the types of figurative languanges used in selescted song lyrics in Arctic Monkey “AM” album. The Figurative Language found in six songs lyric in AM album. There were "R U Mine?", "Do I Wanna Know?", "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?", "One for the Road", "Arabella", and "Snap out of It" songs lyric. This research aimed to show how language can be so in many forms. This study showed how many figurative language and language can be in so many ways to express. This research used qualitative method as a way to analyze figurative language in selected song's lyrics from the album “AM” by Arctic Monkeys. The data in this research used collections of words within their categories of figurative language from Arctic Monkeys’ song lyrics. The result of this study showed types of figurative languages and most used types of figurative languages in selected song by Arctic monkey. There were five types of figurative languages that found in song lyric by Arctic Monkey AM album. There were metaphor, simile, hyperbole, metonymy and synecdoche.

The purposes of this research are: (1) to identify the types of figurative language found in Harmony’s song lyrics. And (2) what are the function of figurative language used in Harmony’s song lyrics? This research applied descriptive qualitative approach. In collecting the data, the researcher searched the songs and noting technique to the scripts. Read and understood the song lyrics in Harmony’s song lyrics. While in analyzing the data, the researcher translate the data into English, identified the data based on the types of figurative languages, classified the data based on the types of figurative languages, analyzed the selected data based on the figurative languages. The results of data analysis, there are seven data found in Harmony’s song lyrics, namely: simile, symbol, irony, personification, paradox, hyperbole, and metaphor. The function of figurative language simile and symbol in Thun Nathe’s song lyrics is to afford imagination pleasure, while in irony is to add emotional intensity. In Sauadagar Percek’s song lyrics simile is used to afford imaginative pleasure, personification and paradox is used to say much in a brief compas, while in hyperbole is to add emotional intensity. In Selaq Bonga’s song lyrics, metaphor is used to add emotional intensity.

Abstract In this article, the author considers the effects of language attitudes, a sociolinguistic concern, on musical practice. This article assumes that language and music attitudes are related as different expressions in and of a common cultural context. The author demonstrates how Scots Gaelic language attitudes in Cape Breton (where a few hundred people still speak the language) have developed, and considers the possible interplay with current attitudes towards two particular Gaelic song genres. Gaelic language learners and native/fluent speakers in Cape Breton articulated distinct and opposing attitudes towards the song genre of puirt-a-beul [mouth music], and these attitudes are examined in relation to those towards the Gaelic language and compared with their response to eight-line songs, a literary Gaelic song type. Detailed musical and lyric analyses of three Gaelic songs are provided to illustrate the connection between language and music attitudes. The current attitude towards Gaelic in Cape Breton is traced through the history of language policy in Scotland and Cape Breton. These sociolinguistic and musicological analyses are supplemented with ethnographic evidence.

Figurative language is language that uses various kinds of figures. Figurative language is a form of using language in the form of a comparison or parable. This research analyze figurative language in Coldplay's song lyrics. The data source is taken from all song lyrics of Parachutes album by Coldplay. The purposes of this research are: (1) to describe the types of figurative language found in Coldplay song lyrics, (2) to explain the meaning of figurative language contained in the selected song lyrics, and (3) to find out the types of figurative language is dominantly used in Coldplay song lyrics. This research uses qualitative descriptive method. The data analysis of this research is to follow the following steps: selecting songs that contain figurative language, identifying types of figurative language by reading carefully, classifying types of figurative language from the data, and making conclusions. The results of this research show that the total number of figurative languages used in the lyrics of the song parachutes Coldplay is 35 types of figurative language. Which consists of: 2 simile, 3 repetition, 9 metaphor, 8 hyperbole, and 13 rhetoric. The type of figurative language most dominantly is rhetoric.

This study focuses on figurative found in popular songs of Secondhand Serenade, they are "Broken", "A twist in my story" and "I hate this song". The data were taken from the three songs of Secondhand Serenade which consist of many types of figurative language by using Perrine’s (1992) theory. The descriptive method was applied in this research, the data source from the research is song lyrics from the three songs of Secondhand Serenade. The writer found 17 sentences containing figurative languages in Secondhand Serenade's songs. All of these terms are divided into six categories, They are, hyperbole, personification, metonymy, simile, apostrophe, and symbol. The writer more often found types of figurative language that contain hyperbole. Nine sentences are almost found in every song from the three songs of Secondhand Serenade. By reading this study, the writer hopes this research could give more understanding in the analysis of figurative language to the reader. The writer hopes this paper inspires all students who want to research in the same field. This study shows to the reader types of figurative language found in popular songs of Secondhand Serenade.

This research is designed to identify some figurative language by understanding the general meaning when they are used in the song lyric. Based on research findings, the writers found some figurative languages in the Justin Timberlake’s selected song. Abstract. This research was about Balinese pop song which was Semiotic Heuristic study. The research underlined was the fact that occurred in the Balinese popular songs as a part of the literary work featured new vocabularies as well as old vocabularies modification and also a combination of vocabularies from other languages such as Indonesian and English, considered as the "Deviate" composition from the rules of standard grammar and literary conventions. The purpose of this research was to describe the phenomenon of linguistic structure in Balinese popular song texts and the philosophical meaning of the texts Balinese popular song based on semiotic-heuristic analysis. To be able to describe these purposes, semiotic theory and structuralism were used. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data source was derived from two texts of Balinese popular songs entitled “Suksma Hyang Widhi” by Dek Ulik” and "Bungan Sandat" by AA Made Cakra. Both of these popular songs used different styles. The song of "Bungan Sandat" mostly used words based on the rules of language and literature that was, poetic. While the song titled "Suksma Hyang Widhi” mostly used a lot of ordinary words such as language used in daily life. There appeared some deviate words found out of the rules of grammar or literary conventions; however there were also words appropriately right based on the rules of language and literature, namely poetic, romantic, by symbolic and philosophical language styles. Based on the result analysis of those two songs heuristically towards the two texts of Balinese Pop songs were found the existence of violations of linguistic rules both grammatically, syntagmatically, paradigmatically, semantically and composition of these two Balinese popular songs. Figurative language is the ways to show the writer’s thought use the special word, which have hidden meaning of it. This research analyzed Celine Dion’s songs, they are Fly and Falling into You. The objectives of this research are to find out the types of figurative language and meanings of the figurative language in Celine Dion’s songs. The writers take two songs from this album, they are Fly and Falling into You. The method of this research was qualitative descriptive. The data were taken from Genius.com website. Figurative language that the writers found in this research were six metaphors, two symbolisms, two imageries, two similes and one personification. In the Fly song there were four metaphors, and one symbolism. Besides in the Falling into You song there were two metaphors, one symbolism, two imageries, two similes, and one personification. The writers found the hidden meaning of these two songs. The Fly song told about parents who express deep sadness at the loss of her child. This article entitled "Exposing the Meaning of Figurative Language in Alie Gatie Selected song lyrics". Figurative language is sentences or phrases that possess secret meanings behind the word, phrases, or sentences. This article aims to exposing the types of figurative language and uncover the meaning of figurative language used in Alie Gatie selected song lyrics. The writer is interested in analyzing Alie Gatie selected songs since Gatie’s songs are telling stories of his love stories and his heartbreak. The datas were obtained by the method of observating and taking notes. The obtained data were then analyzed by descriptive qualitative method using theory proposed by Knickerbocker and Reninger (1963) to identify the types of figurative language and theory of meaning by Leech (1981) to expose the meaning of figurative language. The finding shows that there are various figurative languages used in Alie Gatie’s selected songs such as Metaphor, Irony, Hyperbole, and Paradox.

Research on the use of language, sentence, the content of pornography and connotations of pornography, and the content of character education in the campursari song text are aimed to describing at: (1) language, (2) sentence variations, (3) pornographic content and pornographic connotations, and (4) content character education in the campursari song text. This study included qualitative descriptive research. The research data are in the form of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. The data source for this study is ten songs downloaded from the internet. The results of the study: (1) ten songs analyzed by nine song texts used Javanese as the title and one song used the Javanese language and Indonesian language. Of the ten songs, all song texts use Javanese, there are mixed Indonesian language codes into Javanese, mixed Javanese language codes and English into Indonesian, Indonesian language code switching to Javanese, and there are letters written that violate General Guidelines Enhanced Javanese Spelling (PUEBJYD), (2) the use of sentences consists of: (a) declarative sentences, (b) interrogative sentences, and (c) imperative sentences, (3) there are six songs containing pornography and connotations of pornography, and (4) the value of prominent character education is creative, besides that it is a violation of polite and religious values.

Анотація:
This descriptive qualitative study aims to shed new light on Javanese language maintenance through the practice of English-Javanese code-switching reflected in a song entitled Lathi by Weird Genius feat Sara Fajira. The intrinsic merit of the song 'Lathi,' covering cultural values, song lyrics significance, and the song's moral message, were deliberately discussed here. The data are taken from interview transcripts, observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed by first classifying the Lathi song lyrics into types of code switching, investigating the youths’ perception regarding the used of Javanese English code switching in Lathi song, and analyze the aspects of the songs highlighted the idea of Javanese language maintenance. The findings of this study suggest that the phenomenon of code-switching in Lathi songs is deliberately done to keep maintaining Javanese's existence as one of the popular vernacular in Indonesia. Language maintenance of the Javanese language in a song named Lathi can pique the public's interest in learning Javanese by creating Javanese language maintenance represented in its song lyrics. It makes the Javanese language gain popularity in the community, particularly among students and young people. It is, of course, a good sign of minimizing the threat of language shift. The continuous use of the local language as a language maintenance effort will avoid losing the community's first language.

<p>In this digital era 4.0, more and more people are realizing the importance of learning foreign languages, especially English. They learn through any source they can access digitally and one of the media used is through music and songs. But actually learning English through songs has its own challenges because song lyrics are often different from spoken language, one of which is the use of language style. This research aims at analyzing simile expressions found in the song lyrics of ‘Everything at Once’ by Lenka. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative to analyze the types of simile expressions found in the song lyrics. The analysis of the types of simile expressions is carried out using theory of Zhang and Fromilhague. The result of analysis shows that ‘Everything at Once’ song has 38 simile expressions and they all belong to the type of closed and explicit simile.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>Keywords: simile, song, lyrics.</strong></p>

Folk song is a true gift of culture. It is one of the traditional, intangible and indigenous pieces of the art of performing the melodious expression with the help of soft pipes that are forever invaluable cultural assets and musical property as well. In view of making a brief survey of the use of multiple languages in folk songs, different folk melodies have been selected randomly from seven provinces of Nepal where the folk melodies are more fertile. This paper aims at exploring the use of multiple languages in folk songs I, myself as a researcher in the field, encountered with in written and audio- or video-recorded form. Therefore, the main source of relevant data includes me and other written and audio or video documents of folk songs I found. As a multicultural country, Nepal is rich in terms of its folk songs. In this paper, I analyze how folk song can be a creative space where linguistic boundaries are challenged and new language practices are invented. Taking of folk songs as a social and cultural identity, I examine how folk song embraces local diversity and redefines the use of language a creative tool for public.

AbstractThis research is entitled An Analysis of Figurative Language in Taylor Swift's song lyrics it aims to know the types of figurative language that are used in Taylor swift lyrics and describe the contextual meaning of the figurative language used in Taylor's lyrics. The research data is obtained from two songs from one albumof Taylor Swift. The album titled Red with three songs taken entitles Red and 22. This research uses descriptive qualitative method in observation and library research in collecting data of this research. Figurative language found consists of simile, metaphor, hyperbole, paradox, irony and personification. In this research, these findingsshow that hyperbole is the most dominant in Taylor Swift’s song and based on the contextual meaning of overall song lyrics of Taylor Swift tell about conflict, pain heart and deeply treachery.Keywords: song, lyric, figurative language, contextual meaning

Анотація:
The authors investigate some specifics of using song material in the formation of foreign language communicative competence when teaching Ukrainian to students of different levels of language proficiency. The relevance of the article is determined by the fact that there is an insufficient number of educational resources on the Ukrainian language for foreign students and also by the proven effectiveness of the studied type of educational material, and consequently by the necessity of developing a method for its optimal use. The aim is to develop a methodology of using song material in lessons of Ukrainian as a foreign language for students of different levels with a focus on popular contemporary songs. Methods of research used in the article comprise critical analysis of literary sources; study and generalization of teachers’ work; trial teaching. Main results. The article offers methodical recommendations for using song material in lessons of Ukrainian as a foreign language to fulfill such educational tasks: use of song material as phonetic exercises and for correction of pronunciation, use of song material as a motivator for studying the creativity of writers and poets, use of song material in studying the lexical and grammatical material. The authors propose a technique for a complete lesson for studying a chosen song, and also variants of using the song “Dumka” based on the poem by Taras Shevchenko at different stages of language learning. Emphasis is placed on modern songs, in which music is set to verses of prominent classics, and examples of songs that are recommended for use at different stages of the educational process are given. Conclusions. Usage of song material has some important advantages in the practice of teaching Ukrainian to foreigners and allows creating the most authentic environment in the classroom; removing psychological barriers; improving a classroom microclimate; increasing opportunities for foreign students to get acquainted with Ukrainian traditions and culture in a timely and versatile manner; adaptation of students to the language uses, providing them with song material to get involved in authentic Ukrainian language.

Figurative language is part of the semantic aspect in language that employs various figures in a language. The study discussed an analysis of the figurative languages in the Selena Gomez song. The study aimed at finding out the kind and the meaning of figurative languages in her song “Lose You to Love Me”. The source of the data was taken from the lyrics of Selena Gomez’s song. Her song was classified as a pop song released on 23rd October 2019. In this analysis, the descriptive qualitative model was used with a pure structuralism approach, such as hyperbole, irony, paradox, personification, repetition, and simile. Then the types of figurative language were classified and analyzed. The result showed that six kinds of figurative languages were found: hyperbole 33.3%, Irony 11.1%, paradox 22.3%, personification 11.1%, repetition 11.1%, and simile 11.1%. The figurative language dominant is hyperbole since song lyrics are distorted by adding original meanings to explicit words. Instead, song lyrics contain a comparative meaning between denotative interpretation and connotative meaning. In addition, this song provides the essence of the song on aesthetic principles and colors.

Music and reading domains require similar auditory processing skills. Students employ these skills when learning a new song through an oral/aural or rote-teaching approach. In this article, I review literature on the effectiveness of immersion and phrase-by-phrase approaches for teaching a song with or without words. Then, using an amusing analogy, I suggest a process for using the English language arts to teach a song using a rote approach. Two lessons are described that include prompts to aid teachers in analyzing songs to teach music through language.

This research aims to find out the figurative language in Michael Jackson song lyrics. Therefore, the researchers formulated a question as the problem. As follows: (1) what are the kinds of figurative language in Michael Jackson�s song lyrics? (2) What is the dominant type of figurative language in Michael Jackson�s song lyrics? This research used Perrine theories to analysis kinds of figurative language in Michael Jackson song lyrics. There are 12 types of figurative language according to Perrine they are: simile, metaphor, personification, apostrophe, synecdoche, metonymy, symbol, allegory, paradox, hyperbole/overstatement, understatement, and irony. The researchers used qualitative design because data are collected by using document in form of word and a procedure of systematic analysis of context text (words, phrase, sentences, document, etc), analysis content by qualitative enable researchers to understand the text by grouping words that have same meaning into categories. The researchers used ten song from the website Genius.com as an instrument to find the data to be analyzed based types of figurative language. The researchers finding showed that are 6 types of figurative language that found in Michael Jackson�s Songs namely: personification, apostrophe, metaphor, hyperbole, simile and symbol. While, there are 6 types of figurative language weren�t found in Michael Jackson�s Songs namely: synecdoche, metonymy, allegory, paradox, understatement, and irony. After analyzing all the data the researchers found the types of figurative language are dominantly used in Michael Jackson�s songs are hyperbole consists of 11 sentences (30%).

Cultural processes occur in a wide variety of animal taxa, from insects to cetaceans. The songs of humpback whales are one of the most striking examples of the transmission of a cultural trait and social learning in any nonhuman animal. To understand how songs are learned, we investigate rare cases of song hybridization, where parts of an existing song are spliced with a new one, likely before an individual totally adopts the new song. Song unit sequences were extracted from over 9,300 phrases recorded during two song revolutions across the South Pacific Ocean, allowing fine-scale analysis of composition and sequencing. In hybrid songs the current and new songs were spliced together in two specific ways: (i) singers placed a single hybrid phrase, in which content from both songs were combined, between the two song types when transitioning from one to the other, and/or (ii) singers spliced complete themes from the revolutionary song into the current song. Sequence analysis indicated that both processes were governed by structural similarity rules. Hybrid phrases or theme substitutions occurred at points in the songs where both songs contained “similar sounds arranged in a similar pattern.” Songs appear to be learned as segments (themes/phrase types), akin to birdsong and human language acquisition, and these can be combined in predictable ways if the underlying structural pattern is similar. These snapshots of song change provide insights into the mechanisms underlying song learning in humpback whales, and comparative perspectives on the evolution of human language and culture.

Individuals use language as a means of communication everywhere and at all times. In today's world, figurative language is often encountered in everyday life, such as in song lyrics. Figurative language is a way of describing something without saying it directly. This research aims to investigate the figurative languages found in the lyrics of the song "Grenade" by analyzing their context and attempting to decipher their meaning. The data tool is song lyrics found on the internet, and the research approach is descriptive qualitative analysis. The results revealed that this album employs figurative language such as metaphor, hyperbole, and repetition. Furthermore, the most figurative words used in the lyrics is hyperbole. The language style or known the Figure of Speech is an expression of feelings that have deep meaning for others. This research was conducted to look at the style of the language in the lyrics of popular songs by Syahrini. The analuses covered were stylistic repetition, alliteration, assonance, parallelism, “Simploke”, and redundancy. Analysis methods of this research used descriptive qualitative method. Based on the analysis of the lyrics of a popular song Syahrini explained that the style of repetitipn languange is a classification of words in a few times to amplify the pressure. We can see the lyrics of the songs, entitled: My Lovely, Aku Tak Biasa, Bohong, Kau Yang Memilih Aku, Semua Karena Cinta, Sesuatu, Cinta Tapi Gengsi, Pusing Setengah Mati, Aku Tak Biasa (Cover Alda) dan Kau Cetarkan Hatiku. While the other songs on the album are Tatapan Cinta, Kau Sengaja, Kau Sengaja, Sang Pencipta, Tak Terganti, Aku Pergi, Tak Memilih, Memilih Aku, Kau Bohong, Taubatlah Taubat, Ya Robbi, Cinta Terakhir, dan Jangan Memilih Aku. In the alliteration style is a kind of language style that is concrete use of the word tahat have teh begining of the same consonant. Song is a literary work that is enjoyed by all people, from young people to adults. In the song lyrics, there are many language styles, especially metaphorical styles. Metaphorical language style is an implicit comparative language style. One of the functions of using metaphors in writing song lyrics is to add beauty to the lyrics. Japanese songs are one of the most popular songs by Japanese students or learners, anime enthusiasts and the general public. LiSA is one of the popular Japanese singers whose songs are widely enjoyed. In this study, researchers analyzed the metaphorical language style of LiSA's song lyrics. This study aims to determine the types and meanings of metaphors in LiSA's song lyrics. This type of research is qualitative research with descriptive methods. The data in this study are in the form of phrases containing metaphors in the lyrics of LiSA's songs. The source of the data taken is the lyrics of a song by LiSA which is an anime soundtrack consisting of 8 songs including Adamas, Catch the Moment, Datte Atashi no Hero, Gurenge, Rally Go Round, Rising Hope, Shirushi, and Unlasting. This study uses the theory of Stephen Ullmann. Based on the results of the study, there were 4 types of metaphors, namely anthropomorphic metaphors with 9 data, synesthetic metaphors with 9 data, abstract metaphors with 22 data, and animal metaphors with 2 data. Besides that, there are different meanings in each metaphorical expression.

One of the strategies used in foreign language learning is to use learning media, but most teachers do conventional learning without using any learning media. Song is one of the appropriate learning media in language learning especially foreign languages. The purpose of this paper is to show the benefits of using learning media for foreign language songs in foreign language learning at elementary school so the teacher can switch to using effective learning media. The results obtained from the study of this article is that the use of songs on strengthening foreign language skills is recommended because it can help students master 2 of 4 skills, namely listening and speaking. Learners are also more motivated by the use of Song Media in learning because songs create a learning environment that is not boring. Although search websites about songs in learning are declining, but until now it is still sought and quite attractive to the public.

Based on the result finding, the most figurative language is Oxymoron or Paradox. the song about is inabality of a person to intercat with others and the writers also warn to the listeners the risk of the innabality to communicate. Through this research, people can be helped to understand figurative languages in the songs with the right meaning as well as to encourage to learn English. In an increasingly interconnected and globalised world, the need for cross cultural understanding is greater than ever before. Exploring and analysing songs from different cultures can be an effective ‘entry point’ into learning about the nature of other peoples and societies lives and for developing a sense of ethnocultural empathy. Protest songs can provide a lens for intercultural analysis, especially for understanding minority or subcultural perspectives. Translating songs into different languages makes these works more accessible to a broader cross-section of people. We present translations of protest songs, two from Indonesian to English, and one from English to Indonesian. We discuss the respective importance of meaning and poetics in making song translations. Strict adherence to song rhymes is a challenge for translators and one which may impede meaning. The optimal approach depends on the format in which the translation is likely to be presented. Fluency in the target language, rather than the source language, is more helpful for successful translation. Finally, we make some recommendations about the usefulness of intercultural song (text) translation analysis and intercultural awareness.

Song is an expression which has a strong connection with someone's feeling, which can also be a hint to understand how Japanese society thinks and feels in general (Kanemoto 2006). Expression on song lyrics is quite different from the usual expression used in daily conversation. To convey emotions and feelings of the songwriter, the style of language is important to touch the listener's feelings. This research analyzed the style of language in the lyrics of Japanese and Indonesian love song, by using contrastive analysis method and review it from cognitive linguistics. 13 Common Source Domains that Kovecses exposes is used to identify the style of love expression in the song lyrics. The purpose of this study is to explain what language styles and expression are used in the lyrics of Indonesian and Japanese songs, accordance with theory of the seven metaphors of love in cognitive linguistics, contrasting the love phrases contained in both languages, and the corresponding theory of the seven metaphors of love in cognitive linguistics with the Common Source Domain by Kovecses. As the results, there are 8 types of 13 types of Common Source Domain used in the lyrics of both languages in the 1970s. Besides the 13 Common Source Domains, is also found domain that are used both languages called Colour. Meanwhile the song lyrics in 2000 year, there are 10 types of 13 types of Common Source Domain used in both languages lyrics. Another domain that is used in both language lyrics is Music.

Purpose: to investigate the Ukrainian song as means of consolidation of nation and find out, what the phenomenon of the song «Noise» performed by the band «Go_A» consists in. Research is carried out by means of descriptive method, it is made theoretical analysis of literature, critical analysis of researches, it is applied the method of selection and systematization of material, the method of supervision, synthesis. Folklorists have already been studying the song «Noise» over one hundred and fifty years: 1) it was investigated by М. Maksymovych, B. Hrinchenko, М. Hrushevskyi and others; 2) the «Noise» is a very old Ukrainian vesnianka (spring folk song) that originates from pre-christian times and rituals related to nature, with its spring awakening; 3) the «Noise» is personification: well-organized energy, green forest, character of noise of the first spring greenery, God of the forest. Haivka (spring song) is the ancient name of round dances that was saved yet from the time, when our ancestors carried out ceremonial songs and dances in the protected groves round sacred trees. Aboriginal vesnianky (spring folk songs)-haivky are syncretic – singing and motion, words and action, song and dance are combined in them. Phenomenon of the song «Noise» that was presented on a song competition Eurovision by the Ukrainian electro-folk band «Go_A», consists in that on a background of «sleek and inexpressive pop songs» that sounded mainly in English, Ukrainian performers, leaning against old Ukrainian folklore traditions, offered to Europe Ukrainian powerful and catching «spring hymn» in a style of techno, that was perceived with gladness and fascination by European listener audience. Thus, firstly, Ukrainian haivka (spring song) became a world hit in 2021; secondly, the band «Go_A», keeping national identity, popularizes Ukraine, Ukrainian language and Ukrainian song; thirdly, it consolidates Ukrainian society; fourthly, it engages young people in patriotic education. Summarizing, it is possible to establish with confidence: 1) Ukrainian language and Ukrainian song are indivisible as they are organically interdependent and are the basic criteria of originality of nation; 2) the Ukrainian song as well as language unites nation; 3) we found out, firstly, that the old Ukrainian vesnianka (spring folk song) «Noise» became the basis of the song «Noise» of the Ukrainian band «Go_A»; secondly, we made sure that vesnianky (spring folk songs) and haivky (spring songs) were not identical concepts, as varieties of vesnianky (spring folk songs) are haivky – songs that were performed only in time of the Easter holidays; vesnianky (spring folk songs) are a cycle of spring songs that are sung from the Annunciation.

Abstract The origin of the interpretation of Song of Songs as a description of God’s relationship with God’s beloved community has been a persistent question in the work’s history of interpretation. Earlier scholarship has provided a number of possible solutions to this problem, none of them conclusive. This article offers another possible answer: the language and imagery of the Northwest Semitic combat myth in Song 8:6-7, which identifies love with Yhwh as the victorious divine warrior, triggers the work’s interpretation as a divine love song. This argument receives support from some of the earliest allusions to Song of Songs in Revelation, which interpret Song of Songs in the context of apocalyptic discourse that likewise draws heavily on the combat myth.

AbstractContrary to what might be expected, the allegorical interpretation of the Song of Songs set forth in the Targum of the Song of Songs does not consistently portray God and Israel as male lover and female beloved. Instead, the Targum presents a multiplicity of additional metaphors suggesting the intimacy between divine and human counterparts throughout their history together, including the affective relationships between male friends and scholarly colleagues, siblings, infant and nurse, father and son, gardener and plants, and farmer and animals. Ambivalence towards sexual love and marriage as appropriate theological metaphors, sensitivity to the rich symbolic language of the Song of Songs and other scriptural passages, and celebration of the primacy of Torah study with male colleagues in rabbinic culture all contribute to this diversification of imagery, which builds on the emotive intensity of the Song of Songs even as it complicates the language of desire.

This article identifies the circumstances in which bilingual songs in Slovenia existed and follows the changes in the songs’ social role from the first half of the 19th century to the period after the end of the Second World War. It follows these changes as they occurred within the framework of folkloristics and in the practices that folklore scholars tried to shape and those that continued without intervention.In order to discern the circumstances in which bilingual songs were created, the author focuses on two songs that were documented by one of the first collectors and researchers of Slovenian folk songs, Stanko Vraz. These are the German-Slovenian toast song “Seid fröhlich, ihr Brüder”, which only rarely appears in later records, and a Slovenian song “Kam bova vandrala vandrovček moj” (‘Whither Shall we Wander, my Little Wanderer?’), which transcribers encountered in different dialects or supradialects. This song appears in the records as a bilingual, Slovenian-German song only later, in the 20th century. The author explores which social groups were characterized by bilingual songs and whether the negative attitude of folkloristics to these songs directed and changed only a selection of folk songs made by collectors, or the repertoire of singers as well.

Song lyrics can be used to communicate the author’s message to others. The songwriter can express what he feels, sees, and experiences. The song lyrics by Roma Irama are fascinating in terms of language style. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to describe the language style used in the lyrics of Rhoma Irama’s songs “Virus Corona,” “Bencana,” and “Suratan.” This study used the data in the form of song lyrics snippets from the three songs. The data was gathered through the listening method, which involved listening to the three songs displayed on YouTube. The lyrics of the songs were then recorded and analyzed using stylistic theory. According to the study’s findings, the language styles used in the lyrics of “Virus Corona,” “Bencana,” and “Suratan” are climax, parallelism, antithesis, anaphor, asyndeton, pleonasm, rhetorical questions, paraphrases, litotes, metaphors, and cynicism. As a result, Rhoma Irama employs a variety of language styles in the lyrics of his three songs.

The existence of figurative language as a way of conveying utterance other than its ordinary way helps the song writer in composing and producing beautiful songs. By using figurative language, the singer could deliver the messages existed in a song in a brief yet meaningful way. Furthermore a song entitled “Firework” attracts the researcher’s attention in doing analysis about the types of figurative language. This study then focuses on analyzing the types of figurative language and its meaning found in the song lyric entitled “Firework” by Katy Perry. The aims of the study are to identify and describe the meaning of the types of figurative language used in the song “Firework”. This study implements descriptive qualitative method. The data of the study is the song lyric entitled “Firework” by Katy Perry which is taken from azlyrics.com. This study applies study documentation as the method in collecting the data. The result of data analysis shows that there are six types of figurative language found in the song lyric entitled “Firework” by Katy Perry. They are symbol, hyperbole, simile, personification, metaphor, and paradox. Furthermore, the meaning of these types of figurative language is also described by the researcher.

Language can not be taken as it is, in semantics, there is figurative language that is used as an expression and not by its literal meaning. This research analyzed figurative language in three Eminem’s songs entitled Mockingbird, When I'm Gone, and Zeus to find out the figurative language and the meaning behind it. This research uses a qualitative study that aims to obtain information about figurative language with related theories from Perrine (1992). The Data were collected by using a descriptive qualitative method. It has been found that there are figurative language used to convey meaning in the song, there are simile, metaphor, hyperbole, personification, symbol, and allegory. To conclude the analysis then it can be said that figurative language in the song was used to make the song become more variative and meaningful. Keyword: Semantics, Figurative language, Eminem

This research aimed to analyze the types, meanings, and functions of figurative language in the Korean boy groups NCT and EXO song lyrics.This research is included in qualitative research. The data in the research are in the form of words and sentences in the song lyrics of the Korean boy group NCT and EXO. The method of collecting data is the document study method by Sugiyono (2016). Then the approach uses a stylistic approach and the method of analyzing data uses the first method by Leech and Short (1981) that focuses on the figure of speech.The results of this research show that 14 (fourteen) figurative languages are found in the selected songs. There are 2 (two) personifications, 8 (eight) hyperbole, 1 (one) metonymy, 1 (one) irony, and 2 (two) symbols. In total, there are 14 (fourteen) figurative languages found in 2 (two) NCT songs and 1 (one) EXO song. And this research found the functions of figurative language according to Perrine. The functions are to produce imaginative pleasure, to produce additional images so that abstract things become concrete and can be enjoyed by readers, to increase the intensity of the author's feelings in conveying meaning and attitude, and to concentrate the meaning to be conveyed and ways to convey something in short language.

Abstract Bob Dylan has significantly influenced American song tradition and popular music for more than five decades. As his songs are famous for the creative poetic expressions, they are not merely song lyrics, but also can be regarded as lyric poems. This paper aims to investigate the retranslation of Bob Dylan’s songs in bilingual picture books to explore how his classic musical works are repackaged both verbally and visually for contemporary children. The data for analysis are selected from two bilingual picture books on Dylan’s songs published in China in 2018. Firstly, it conducts a detailed textual analysis of the English and Chinese song lyrics to analyze the appropriate translation strategies and methods for song translation. Secondly, based on visual narratives (Painter, Martin and Unsworth 2013), it analyzes the intersemiotic relations between texts and images in picture books to discuss how the emotions and narratives in Dylan’s songs are visually represented.

This study aims to explore the types and meanings of figurative language in Taylor Swift’s song lyrics. On the surface level, figurative language cannot be translated literally. The study is descriptive qualitative, and the data are in the forms of figurative language taken from eight selected songs in Taylor Swift's album "Red" collected by documentation technique. The data are then analyzed using content analysis by referring to the framework of Knickerbocker Reninger’s theory (1985) on figurative language. From the analysis, there are 57 types of figurative language in the selected songs, namely hyperbole 31,5%, simile 19,3%, metaphor 17,5%, metonymy 5,3%, irony 3,5%, symbol 7,0%, personification 10,6%, paradox 3,5% and synecdoche 1,8%. Furthermore, the meaning of each figurative language used in the song lyrics is contextually explored and allied with the content of the song lyrics which conveys the various deep expressions of feeling and emotion of Taylor Swift as both a singer and a songwriter.

Abstract. The results of previous research on the book of Song of Songs showed a significant difference of opinion among the scholars regarding the book's final editorial. This research aimed to trace the final period of the editorial of the Song of Songs based on Hebrew characteristics according to the period of development as stated by experts. The authors use a language research method that includes the phoneme, morphology, and syntax aspects to trace the final stage of the editor of the book of Song of Songs. The results of the analysis showed that the Song of Songs shows characteristics from ancient Hebrew to post-exilic and is heavily influenced by other languages such as Aramaic, Persian, and Greek. The fact showed that the book Song of Songs has a revision of language and contextualitation through a very long period and the final editorial is at least settled in the Persian-Greek period.Abstrak. Hasil penelitian terdahulu terhadap kitab Kidung Agung menunjukkan perbedaan pendapat yang signifikan di antara para ahli mengenai redaksi akhir kitab tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan menelusuri periode akhir redaksi kitab Kidung Agung dengan didasarkan pada ciri-ciri bahasa Ibrani sesuai periode perkembangannya sebagaimana yang telah dikemukakan oleh para ahli. Penulis menggunakan metode penelitian bahasa yang meliputi aspek fonem, morfologi dan sintaksis untuk menelusuri tahap akhir redaksi kitab Kidung Agung. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa kitab Kidung Agung menunjukkan ciri dari bahasa Ibrani kuno hingga pasca-pembuangan serta banyak dipengaruhi oleh bahasa lainnya seperti Aram, Persia dan Yunani. Fakta tersebut menunjukkan bahwa kitab Kidung Agung mengalami revisi bahasa dan kontekstualisasi lewat periode yang sangat panjang dan redaksi akhir setidaknya diselesaikan pada periode Persia-Yunani.

Based on the objective of the study, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative method in collecting the data. From the data analysis, the researcher found out of figurative language appeared in Roar song by Katy Perry. They are Metaphor, Personification, Simile, Paradox, Irony, Alliteration, Onomatopoeia and Hyperbole. It can be implied that figurative language is always used in song lyrics. In Roar song lyrics, there can find moral value massages that can be learned in by the figurative language shown in this song. That is trusting ourself, never doubt to ourself and believe that we have power to refuse some of bad thins comes to our life such as bullying and toxic relationship.

It is a descriptive qualitative research where data were taken from a songs lyrics website. Data used in this research was a song lyrics entitled "Boulevard". Figurative language is one part of semantic study which is usually used in poems and song to enrich the meaning of that literary works. This research aimed to find out the kinds of figurative language, the most popular kinds of figurative language, and the meaning lies behind Speechless song lyrics by Naomi Scott. The method of this study used descriptive qualitative design. The source of the data in this research was the lyrics of Speechless song. However, the researchers collected the data by reading the lyrics. The results showed there were three kinds of figurative language used in that song such as: metaphor, hyperbole and personification. Metaphor was the most repeatedly utilized in the song with 53% use, hyperbole was 30% and personification 15%. The meaning lies behind this song tells about feminism or women empowerment. Therefore, all figurative languages used were aimed to convey the personal emotional power of the singer toward her oppressor. It was vividly expressed by Naomi Scott by using those figurative languages in her song lyrics.

Figurative language is one way of conveying words other than the normal way. This helps song writers compose and produce beautiful songs. Figurative language is part of semantics. Semantic is the study of meaning that is used to understand human expression through language. With semantic we can know the true or actual meaning in a song. This study aims to find student’s ability in identifying kinds of figurative language and their meanings in lyrics of Mariah carey selected song. Descriptive qualitative method is the method used in this study. The instrument for collecting the data was test questions which consisted of 12 questions. In this research, the subject was 11th grade class of SMA Swasta GKPI Padang Bulan which consisted of 28 students. The result of data analysis shows that the students mean score is 76,7 the highest score is 92, while the lowest score is 50. There were 4 student, (14,3%), belonged to the very good level and 21 students (75 %), belonged to the good level and there were 3 students, (10,7%), belonged to sufficient level.Kind of figurative language was found in Mariah Carey songs lyric are simile, metaphor, hyperbole, and personification. The dominant types of figurative language found in Mariah Carey song lyrics is metaphor.From an analysis ,the researcher concluded that most of the students of the second grade class of SMA Swasta GKPI Padang Bulan Medan got dificulties to different between metaphors and personifications in identifying figurative language in mariah carey’s songs lyrics.

This article entitled "Uncover the Meaning of Figurative Language in BTS Selected Song Lyrics". Figurative language is language that have some meaning behind the word or sentence and uses figures of speech. A figure of speech could even be how of claiming something aside from the literal meaning of the world. This article aims to analyze the types of figurative language and uncover the meaning of figurative language used in BTS selected song lyrics. The writer is interested in analyzing BTS selected songs since their songs not only tell stories of love or heartbreak, but also about current social situation. The data were collected by observation method and note taking technique. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive qualitative method using theory proposed by Keraf (2006) and Kennedy (1983) to identify the types of figurative language and theory of meaning by Leech (1981) to uncover the meaning of figurative language. The finding shows that there are various figurative language used in BTS song lyrics such as metaphor, metonymy, hyperbole, symbol, and synecdoche.

The reason for the pride and richness of a language is due to the grammar and literature that have emerged in the eyes of that language. The epics occupy a significant place in those verses. Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, considered to be the oldest epics in the world, have also been written in accordance with the epic tradition of that language. Indian language epics are also written within the epic tradition of the regional languages. These include the five great and minor epics that have appeared in the Tamil language; the Kamba Ramayanam, the Periyapuranam, etc. However, if we examine whether the Sangam literature, viz., the songs and the thokai, falls within the epic tradition, the Agam and Puram songs contain at least a few of the epic traditions of the Dandiya author. It can be seen that the majority of the epic elements have been matched in the Kalitthokai and the Pathuppaattu Songs. This study is intended to examine how the epic traditions have adapted to the song that has been taken up for the subject matter of the study. In particular, this study has revealed whether the epic grammar of the Dandiya author has been followed.
