Анотація:

Przedmiotem analizy w niniejszym artykule będą dwa powiązane z sobą teksty: wydana w 1977 roku powieść Toni Morrison Song of Solomon i poświęcony jej artykuł Ewy Łuczak zatytułowany Powrót do domu w „Pieśni Salomonowej”: nostalgia a budowanie tożsamości. Część moich rozważań chciałabym poświęcić przyjrzeniu się tekstowi Łuczak, dla którego punktem wyjścia są obecne w powieści konteksty polityczne i społeczne. Song of Solomon2 zostaje w nim zanalizowana w kontekście „dyskursu domu” obecnego w twórczości Morrison, oraz poprzez kategorię nostalgii. W moim artykule chciałabym zwrócić uwagę na inne możliwe interpretacje tekstu noblistki, uzupełniając tym samym interpretację, którą proponuje Ewa Łuczak o nowe konteksty. Kategorię nostalgii proponuję zastąpić odczytaniem Song of Solomon w świetle jednego z najważniejszych mitów diaspory afrykańskiej, wokół którego ustrukturyzowana jest cała powieść – mitu Flying Africans, któremu w tekście Łuczak poświęcone zostało zaledwie jedno zdanie. Mimo iż niniejszy artykuł zawiera pewne elementy polemiczne, chciałabym, aby stanowił przede wszystkim interesujący punkt wyjścia do szerszej dyskusji na temat kulturowej hegemonii zachodnich odczytań tekstów z kręgu literatury postkolonialnej.

Анотація:

The New Testament letters attributed to Paul depict Jesus Christ as the Son (υἱός) seventeen times. Using the phenomenon of intertextuality and typology, the present article aims to identify the Old Testament’s inspiration for Pauline use of the title “Son” for Jesus. It appears that some main archetypes of Jesus’ sonship can be recognized (Adam, Isaac, the paschal lamb replacing the firstborn son, Israel corporately as son, David, Solomon, Daniel’s Son of Man, and indirectly Isaiah’s Servant of the Lord). These pictures of sonship are intertwined by Paul and used for all main stages of Jesus’ life and activity (birth, death, resurrection, ascension and ruling, sending the Spirit and the second coming).

Анотація:

The conducted exegesis of some particular verses from the Septuagint indicates that two initial covenants made between a representative of the chosen nation with a Gentile party (Abraham and Solomon) did not breach the obligations resulting from the Law of Moses. The theological portrait of Abraham in the Book of Genesis captures an unambiguous evaluation of his conduct in accordance with the Law although the Law itself appeared considerably later when Moses lived. The pact between Solomon and Hiram deserves a similar evaluation. However, the later covenants between the kings of Israel and Judah with Gentile rulers deserve an extremely negative evaluation. Although they did not formally violate the Mosaic prohibitions, they were evaluated as a violation of trust in the Lord as He was the only Partner of the covenant between Himself and the Israelites. Such an interpretation is possible especially in light of Deut 7:6 which accentuates the uniqueness of Israel as a nation chosen by God from among other nations. And because this selection of Israel was done on the foundation of the covenant made on the Mount Sinai, it should be a one-of-a-kind covenant that should not be replaced with another pact signed with a human being, and let alone a Gentile. In all of the cases above, starting from King Asa and ending with Archpriest Jonathan, there was a true violation of the rule whereby the Lord was the only Partner of the covenant with His people. Thus, each of the analyzed treatises met with valid criticism both from a prophet and the inspired author. It is difficult to treat these violations as a major breach of the faith of Israel because of the established diplomatic relations. However, it was the rule of God’s uniqueness as a foundation for any sphere in the life of the chosen people that was violated. It included the political sphere which should not be excluded from the chosen people’s faith.

Анотація:

A novel, Gram-negative marine bacterium, S2753T, was isolated from a mussel of the Solomon Sea, Solomon Islands. Analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence and whole genome sequence data placed strain S2753T in the genus Photobacterium with the closest relative being Photobacterium halotolerans DSM 18316T (97.7 % 16S rRNA gene similarity). Strain S2753T was able to grow from 15 to 40 °C and in NaCl concentrations of 0.5 to 9 % (w/v). The predominant fatty acids were 16 : 1ω7c/16 : 1ω6c (27.9 %), 16 : 0 (22.1 %) and 18 : 1ω7c/8 : 1ω6c (21.4 %). The genomic DNA G+C mol content was 49.5 mol%. Based on the phylogenetic, chemotaxonomic and phenotypic differences, strain S2753T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Photobacterium. Furthermore, whole genome sequence analysis comparing S2753T and type-strains of closely related species of the genus Photobacterium also demonstrated that the strain is genomically distinct enough to be considered a novel species. The name Photobacterium galatheae is proposed and the type-strain is S2753T( = LMG 28894T = DSM 100496T).

The ensuing tsunami caused significant inundation on the closest Nendo Island. The seismic source was studied with teleseismic broadband P-wave inversion optimized with tsunami forward modelling at DART buoys (Lay et al., 2013) and with inversion of teleseismic body and surface waves (Hayes et al., 2014a). The two studies also use different hypocentres and different planar fault models and found quite different slip models. In particular, Hayes et al. (2014a) argued for an aseismic slip patch SE from the hypocentre. We here develop a 3-D model of the fault surface from seismicity analysis and retrieve the tsunami source by inverting DART and tide-gauge data. Our tsunami source model features a main slip patch (peak value of ~ 11 m) SE of the hypocentre and reaching the trench. The rake direction is consistent with the progressively more oblique plate convergence towards the Solomon trench. The tsunami source partially overlaps the hypothesized aseismic slip area, which then might have slipped coseismically.

Throughout times, magic and magicians have exerted a tremendous influence, and this even in our (post)modern world (see now the contributions to Magic and Magicians in the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Time, ed. Albrecht Classen, 2017; here not mentioned). Allegra Iafrate here presents a fourth monograph dedicated to magical objects, primarily those associated with the biblical King Solomon, especially the ring, the bottle which holds a demon, knots, and the flying carpet. She is especially interested in the reception history of those symbolic objects, both in antiquity and in the Middle Ages, both in western and in eastern culture, that is, above all, in the Arabic world, and also pursues the afterlife of those objects in the early modern age. Iafrate pursues not only the actual history of King Solomon and those religious objects associated with him, but the metaphorical objects as they made their presence felt throughout time, and this especially in literary texts and in art-historical objects.

Niniejsza praca poświęcona jest zjawisku prokrastynacji i konstrukcji kwestionariusza badającego zwlekanie. Ze względu na brak polskich badań praca powstała głównie w oparciu o dostępne w internetowych bazach EBSCO artykuły naukowe autorstwa najważniejszych badaczy zajmujących się tą tematyką, m. in. J. R. Ferrariego, C. H. Lay’a, H. C. Schouwenburga, E. D. Rothblum, L. J. Solomon, L. Manna, P. Steela, T. Pychyla. Punktem wyjścia jest przegląd zagadnień teoretycznych, stanowiący wstęp do prezentacji badań własnych. Badania przeprowadzono na próbie 160 ochotników, którzy wypełnili cztery połączone skale – General Procrastination Scale, Adult Inventory of Procrastination, Tuckman Procrastination Scale, Aitken Procrastination Inventory. Na uzyskanych danych dokonano analizy czynnikowej oraz hierarchicznej analizy skupień, wyłaniając 40 pozycji tworzących końcową wersję Kwestionariusza Zwlekania (KZ). Skonstruowana skala zawiera pięć podskal i służy do oceny ogólnego poziomu prokrastynacji oraz pięciu jej aspektów (umiejętność organizacji czasu, siła woli, świadomość prokrastynacji, zwlekanie jako cecha, niepunktualność), a w przyszłości może umożliwiać tworzenie indywidualnych profilów zwlekania osób badanych. Kwestionariusz uzyskał wysoki współczynnik zgodności wewnętrznej alfa Cronbacha 0,971. Analiza sprawdzająca wartość diagnostyczną skali wykazała, że stanowi ona dobre źródło hipotez zarówno badawczych, jak i klinicznych na temat przyczyn i charakterystyki zwlekania osób o różnych poziomach prokrastynacji.

<p>The aim of this article is to analyse the issues related to a political upheaval as a form of the succession of royal power in the monarchy of united Israel in the period that started during the reign of the first king of the Hebrews – Saul – till the last years David spent on the throne. During the period analysed in this article, there were several unsuccessful attempts to seize power through a political coup. Due to the fact that the inheritance based on the principle of primogeniture was never unambiguously introduced in the Kingdom of Israel, the most serious upheaval, described as a palace revolution, took place at the end of King David’s life. As a result, the younger son of David – Solomon – ascended to Israel’s throne, despite the fact that there were no legitimate grounds for him to take power.</p>

Native to the Neotropics, Wasmannia auropunctata has spread to numerous other tropical and subtropical areas, where it is can reach extremely high densities and threaten the local biota. To evaluate the worldwide spread of W. auropunctata, I compiled published and unpublished specimen records from > 1700 sites. I documented the earliest known W. auropunctata records for 53 geographic areas (countries, island groups, major West Indian islands, and US states), including many with no previously published records: Anguilla, Antigua, Barbuda, Caicos Islands, El Salvador, Guam, Montserrat, Nevis, St Kitts, St Martin, and Texas. In the New World, W. auropunctata has a seemingly continuous distribution from central Argentina to southernmost Texas, suggesting that it may be native throughout this expanse. Wasmannia auropunctata has also spread throughout the West Indies and to peninsular Florida, though it is unclear which West Indian islands may constitute part of its native range. The earliest Old World reports of W. auropunctata, in the 1890’s, came from West Africa: Sierra Leone and Gabon. Although no additional records have come from Sierra Leone, W. auropunctata has spread broadly across Gabon and into neighboring countries, where it is a serious pest. In Oceania, the earliest records of W. auropunctata date to 1972 from New Caledonia and 1974 from the Solomon Islands. Pacific populations of W. auropunctata are actively spreading within these islands and to many other island groups. In the past decade, first records of W. auropunctata have been reported from several Old World areas, including the Central African Republic, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Guam, Italy, and Israel. Wasmannia auropunctata appears to still have much potential for future spread in the Old World.

Maximum throughput serves as a fundamental metric for evaluating the performance of mobile ad hoc networks. However, the actual maximum throughput still remains significantly unknown in such networks. This paper studies the actual maximum throughput of mobile ad hoc networks under a general routing scheme with reed-solomon coding, where a source node first encodes a group ofgpackets intow(w≥g) code blocks, and then these code blocks are transmitted to distinct relay nodes, which forward them to destination node. The originalgpackets can be decoded once the destination node receives anygcode blocks. To explore the actual maximum throughput, we first establish two Markov chain models to capture the fastest packet sending and receiving processes at source and destination nodes under the considered routing scheme. Based on the Markov chain models, we then derive a closed-form expression for the maximum throughput in such networks. Finally, extensive simulations and theoretical results are presented to validate the accuracy of our theoretical maximum throughput analysis in mobile ad hoc networks and to illustrate how network parameters influence the maximum throughput performance.

Анотація:

The anticosmopolitanism that Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May endorsed as a guiding ideology of Brexit has a long history in British discourse. This article links the anticosmopolitanism alive in Brexit to late-nineteenth-century antisemitism, racism, and antiglobalization by examining the content, context, and reception of W. T. Eady’s I.D.B. or The Adventures of Solomon Davis (1887). As an effort to lampoon diamond magnate Barney Barnato’s rise in society, the novel throws up warnings about how deserving English will be impoverished when Jewish immigrants and other so-called “cosmopolitans” take advantage of the mobilities enabled by British entanglements with the larger world. The novel shows how fears of globalization and European immigration coming led with a racialized sense of Englishness, all intimations of Brexit discourse.

This article links the anticosmopolitanism alive in Brexit to late-nineteenth-century antisemitism, racism, and antiglobalization by examining the content, context, and reception of W. T. Eady's I.D.B. or The Adventures of Solomon Davis (1887). As an effort to lampoon diamond magnate Barney Barnato's rise in society, the novel throws up warnings about how deserving English will be impoverished when Jewish immigrants and other so-called “cosmopolitans” take advantage of the mobilities enabled by British entanglements with the larger world. The novel shows how fears of globalization and European immigration comingled with a racialized sense of Englishness, all intimations of Brexit discourse.

Circumscription of the genus Ichnocarpus R. Br. is discussed and Micrechites Miq. and Lamechites Markgraf are placed in synonymy. Ichnocarpus R. Br. is revised for Australia and Papuasia (Irian Jaya, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands). Three species are recognised in this region, namely I. archboldianus comb. nov. (Micrechites archboldiana Merr. & Perr.), I. frutescens (L.) W. T. Aiton and I. serpyllifolius comb. nov. (Ficus serpyllifolia Blume). Lumechites schlechteri Markgraf, Micrechites rhombifolia Markgraf, M. rhombifolia var. lanceolata Markgraf and Ichnocarpus salornonensis C. T. White are newly placed in the synonymy of Ichnocarpus serpyllifolius. The new combination I. polyanthus (Micrechites polyantha Miq.) is made for a Malesian species west of Papuasia. The names Ichnocarpus leptodictyus F. Muell. and Micrechites rhombifolia Markgraf are lectotypified. Generic and specific descriptions, a species key, notes on variation, distribution, habitat and conservation status are provided.

Abstract Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a highly abundant glycosaminoglycan within the central nervous system. In glioblastoma (GBM), interactions with HA mediate tumor cell invasion. An improved knowledge of the biological underpinnings of HA-dependent GBM cell migration can facilitate the development of efficacious therapeutics. To better study how HA in the tumor matrix affects invasion, we have developed a tunable, 3D culture system in which to study gliomaspheres (GSs) of patient-derived tumor cells. Photopolymerization (365 nm for 15 seconds) of GSs suspended in a solution 0.025 w/v% lithium phenyl-2,4,6-trimethylbenzoylphosphinate (LAP), thiolated 4-arm poly-ethylene glycol (20 kDa, Laysan Bio), 8-arm poly-ethylene glycol-norbornene (20 kDa, Laysan Bio), thiolated peptides containing an ‘RGD’ amino acid motif, and either 0.10, 0.25, 0.50, or 0.75 w/v% of thiolated HA (700 kDa average molecular weight, Lifecore Biomedical) yielded 3D hydrogels of varying HA concentrations and similar mechanical properties. Relative invasive capacity, quantified by shape factor (deviation from circularity) and migration length (maximum extension length of processes from the GS periphery), differed across patient lines and was independent of their Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) classification as either mesenchymal or proneural. Hydrogels with higher amounts of HA (>0.25% w/v) generally enhanced invasion as compared to low HA (0.10 w/v%) hydrogels. In certain cell lines, a biphasic relationship between HA concentration and migration was observed, in line with previous reports of CD44 expression and migration. Moreover, inhibition of the CD44-Ezrin-Actin axis, using NSC668394, reduced migratory activity in hydrogels with higher HA (>0.25% w/v), while slightly increasing invasion in hydrogels with low HA (0.10 w/v%). In sum, results demonstrate the use of a matrix-mimetic, 3D hydrogel system in which to study GBM invasion through the local extracellular matrix. Анотація:

Edge computing, as an emerging computing paradigm, aims to reduce network bandwidth transmission overhead while storing and processing data on edge nodes. However, the storage strategies required for edge nodes are different from those for existing data centers. Erasure code (EC) strategies have been applied in some decentralized storage systems to ensure the privacy and security of data storage. Product-matrix (PM) regenerating codes (RGCs) as a state-of-the-art EC family are designed to minimize the repair bandwidth overhead or minimize the storage overhead. Nevertheless, the high complexity of the PM framework contains more finite-domain multiplication operations than classical ECs, which heavily consumes computational resources at the edge nodes. In this paper, a theoretical derivation of each step of the PM minimum storage regeneration (PM-MSR) and PM minimum bandwidth regeneration (PM-MBR) codes is performed and the XOR complexity over finite fields is analyzed. On this basis, a new construct called product bitmatrix (PB) is designed to reduce the complexity of XOR operations in the PM framework, and two heuristics are used to further reduce the XOR numbers of the PB-MSR and PB-MBR codes, respectively. The evaluation results show that the PB construction significantly reduces the XOR number compared to the PM-MSR, PM-MBR, Reed–Solomon (RS), and Cauchy RS codes while retaining optimal performance and reliability.
