This paper shows that Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) systems can be developed at lower costs, less risk and with a faster time to market than a traditional developed IT system. The primary reason for this is that SOA enables reuse; by loosely coupled reusable services and business processes.

However, this is not the main benefit; still a great side effect. SOA can and should deliver good value for the business. The main benefit with SOA is therefore to create new and better opportunities for the business. Today’s rapid changes and fierce competition increases the importance of flexible enterprises; SOA has the ability to develop and modify services quickly which leads to flexible and thus winning enterprises.

It is important to keep in mind that SOA is an architecture, not a technology. Like any other architecture one finds value over time; long term thinking is important in the implementation of SOA.

This paper also covers a number of technologies common in SOA, and a prototype to show how these technologies can be implemented in a SOA system.

O crescimento do tamanho, complexidade e demanda por qualidade dos sistemas de software são alguns dos motivos que tem aumentado o interesse na área de arquitetura de software. Consequentemente, processos de arquitetura de software surgiram a fim de auxiliar os arquitetos na construção dessas arquiteturas. Arquitetura Orientada a Serviços (SOA) surgiu como um tipo de arquitetura de software para construir sistemas através da composição de serviços. Assim como o paradigma de orientação a objetos, o paradigma de orientação a serviços tem trazido uma abordagem de projeto distinta que introduz princípios que governam o posicionamento e o projeto dos componentes arquiteturais. Além disso, SOA é um paradigma para organização e utilização de capacidades distribuídas que podem estar sob o controle de diferentes domínios. No contexto empresarial, SOA permite que organizações, que tenham uma infra-estrutura de aplicações fragmentadas sob a administração de diferentes áreas de negócio, possam integrar estas aplicações no nível de serviço. Por um lado, os processos de arquitetura tradicionais não abrangem estes aspectos de SOA. Por outro lado, as abordagens de SOA disponíveis não satisfazem todos os fundamentos da arquitetura de software. Neste sentido, esta dissertação propõe um processo sistemático de arquitetura de software baseado em SOA que compreende os principais fundamentos da arquitetura de software e características inerentes a SOA a fim de guiar os arquitetos na construção de uma descrição arquitetural para SOA. This thesis emphasizes on investigating the relationship between the quality attributes and service oriented architecture (SOA). Due to quality attributes requirements drive the design of software architecture, it is necessary to maintain the positive quality of SOA and improve the negative quality of SOA. This thesis gives an introduction to SOA, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and MULE. Then, it covers information on quality of systems and tactics for achieving each quality attribute. Finally, we discuss the quality of SOA in detail, and illustrate how to set up a SOA and how to improve its quality using a case of an order for supermarket.

Service-oriented computing is an emerging IT innovation. Among its manifestations is service-oriented architecture (SOA), an approach to designing and implementing IT solutions. Organizations adopting SOA are facing implementation challenges. Examining factors affecting SOA adoption at an organizational level can reduce uncertainty about SOA, its advantages and disadvantages, and implementation issues. This study uses quantitative analysis to investigate organizational SOA adoption in South Africa from DOI theory and TOE framework perspectives. Results highlight a number of factors influencing SOA adoption: use of multiple standards and platforms, complexity, compatibility, cost, top management support, good governance and strategy, adequate human and financial resources, vendor support for integration and development tools.

The thesis summarizes the history of enterprise application integration and shows the estimated benefits and risks that arise from attempts to harmonize corporate IT infrastructure. It also describes the main approaches to the integration and evaluates their resistance in terms of time. The thesis relates a modern interpretation of the integration of SOA (Service Oriented Architecture), including related standards. Particular attention is paid to the life cycle of services in SOA. It explains possible approaches and key principles of communication layer integrated business application system in terms of architectural design. The last part of the thesis examines for opportunities, risks and benefits of system application integration within the SOA implementation and assesses the economics of integration and the question of the investment protection.

Affärsnytta är ett mångtydigt och svårdefinierat begrepp, men det är något som alla verksamheter vill uppnå.Uppsatsen avgränsar sig till särskilda kvalitativa egenskaper som definieras av ISO/IEC FDIS 25010:2010 under kapitlet "Quality in use". Uppsatsen går ut på att utvärdera de kvalitativa egenskaperna och om SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) bidrar till dessa samt inom vilken aspekt av affärsnytta. För att svara på frågan var det relevant att utvärdera begreppen Affärsnytta och Kvalitativ nytta samt definiera SOA.Resultatet fick vi genom kvalitativa intervjuer från fyra respondenter som har deltagit i ett lyckat SOA projekt och har goda kunskaper inom SOA och dess koppling till affärsnytta inom olika aspekter.Utifrån litteraturen och resultatet ser vi indikationer på att SOA bidrar till de utvalda kvalitativa egenskaperna. Resultatet visar även indikationer på att SOA bidrar till kvalitativ nytta och att det är en drivande kraft för strävan av affärsnytta.
Business value is ambiguous and very hard to define, but it is something that all enterprises strive for.The thesis focuses on specific quality characteristics defined by ISO / IEC FDIS 25010:2010 chapter "Quality in use". The thesis aims to evaluate the qualitative attributes and to find out if SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) contributes to these and in what aspect of business value. To answer the question it was relevant to define Business Value, Qualitative value and SOA.Our results are based on four qualitative interviews from respondents who have participated in a successful SOA project and have knowledge about SOA and it’s connection to business value in various aspects.We see indications that SOA contributes to the selected qualitative characteristics based on the litterature and result. The result also indicates that SOA contributes to qualitative value and that it is the driving force behind the pursuit of business value.

Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is an architectural approach designed to provide scalable, resuable, and extensible software by dividing the software into self-contained services. Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) is an approach for data management that supports resolving ad hoc and complex multidimensional analytical queries. In this thesis, a case study for adapting these two technologies to an existing off-board train diagnostics system, called AddTrackEnterprise, is presented. The thesis also present a proposal for how to visualize the data contained in this system, such that it accommodates the OLAP approach. The thesis outlines the study of the subject matter and of the implementation of software for AddTrack based on these approaches.

Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is an architectural paradigm that allows building of infrastructures for diverse application interaction and integration via services across different platforms, domains of technology and locations. SOA differs from traditional architectures, as it focuses on integrating capabilities that are distributed and implemented using a mixture of technologies. SOA provides a set of methodologies and strategies to accomplish interoperability and integration among different technology stacks.   Vattenfall is the fifth the largest energy supplier within Europe. Having operational systems in different countries brings the challenge of integrating all these distributed systems and this integration is a vital requirement for Vattenfall. The company is currently using Microsoft proprietary products to achieve integration across different technological platform, but requires a better integration infrastructure which is easily extensible and cost effective.   This thesis investigates the impact of implementing Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) using open source or proprietary software products within Vattenfall, from technological and financial perspectives. For this purpose, different technical and non-technical function blocks are identified which are essential for the implementation of SOA. These function blocks are mapped with SOA solutions provided by Red Hat’s JBoss Open Source SOA Platform and Microsoft’s SOA Platform. After mapping, a vendor specific technical and non-technical comparative analysis is carried out based on the function blocks, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each vendor.   Finally, an evaluation scheme is purposed based on the technical comparative analysis of vendors, SOA solution cost and SOA competence required. The results from this evaluation scheme are used to recommend the best solution vendor for Vattenfall Nordic. Moreover, this evaluation scheme can also be used to facilitate management in arriving at an appropriate decision about implementation of SOA, while remaining within their requirements and constraints.

Der wirtschaftliche Erfolg von Unternehmen wird heute von der Fähigkeit beeinflusst, die Geschäftsstrategie schneller umsetzen zu können als die Konkurrenz. Wichtige Ziele sind die Erschließung neuer Märkte, die Reduzierung von Kosten sowie die Steigerung der Effizienz. Eine Voraussetzung besteht darin, vorhandene Geschäftsprozesse flexibel anpassen und zügig neue Prozesse einführen zu können. Das bedingt wandlungsfähige und innovationsfördernde Systemlandschaften. An dieser Stelle setzen die durch Geschäftsprozesse getriebenen serviceorientierten Architekturen für ERP-Systeme an. Mit SOA-ERP-Systemen wird es möglich, selektiv und am Bedarf ausgerichtet neue Prozesse zu gestalten und das Prozess-Design mit der Einbindung von Lieferanten, Kunden und Partnern über Unternehmensgrenzen hinweg zu gestalten. SAP Enterprise-SOA bezeichnet die serviceorientierte ERP-Architektur der SAP AG. Die darauf basierenden Anwendungen entstehen – unter Einsatz der Enterprise-SOA Roadmap-Methodik – durch die gezielte Kombination von Plattform-, Ex-tension- und Composite-Applikationen. Letztere stellen hochflexible, aus Enterprise-Services/Services von Drittanbietern erstellte, Anwendungen dar. Deren Design durch SOA-Experten liegt ein hohes Maß an Erfahrungswissen zu Grunde. Dieses stellt den zentralen Aspekt der Speicherung und Wiederverwendung durch fallbasiertes Schließen dar. Im Gegensatz zum bestehenden Ansatz zur Beschreibung von Best-Practice Implementierungen im „SAP Community Network“ ermöglicht der hier dargestellte Vorschlag die strukturierte, prozessbezogene Speicherung sowie die ähnlichkeitsbasierte Wiederverwendung von Composite-Applikationen innerhalb des Roadmap-Prozesses. Schwerpunktmäßig werden dazu Indizes zum Aufbau von Zugriffsstrukturen in der Fallbasis sowie wie ein allgemeingültiges globales und ein beispielhaftes, kontextspezifisches lokales Indexvokabular erarbeitet. My thesis is that early African Christians engaged in critical dialogue with their missionary counterparts in a variety of ways and forms which served to challenge and enrich the Christianization process in South Africa, eventually giving rise to the emergence of African Christianity and theologies. My aim is to show that African Christians talked back in the long conversation with the European missionaries, ""a conversation full of arguments of words and images."" ¹ Early African Christians used various strategies and ways of responding to the missionary encounter ranging from overt to covert forms of resistance and negotiation. These were related to conditions on the ground. African Christian responses thus contradict any assertion of total conformity to the colonial missionary praxis. The classics debate at Lovedale, for instance, reveals that despite the apparent conformity and obedience to orthodoxy at the official level there was an awareness of ambivalence at a secondary (hidden) level. It is this awareness rather than the obvious ambivalence that is crucial to us.

A implementação da Arquitectura Orientada Serviços tem sido um grande desafio para muitas organizações nos últimos anos. Frequentemente, as implementações não têm tido o sucesso esperado, ficando por uma perspectiva minimalista desta Arquitectura. Neste trabalho de investigação, propomos analisar como é que a utilização da Arquitectura de Empresa pode apoiar e contribuir para as implementações da Arquitectura Orientada a Serviços. O insucesso das implementações está associado, na maior parte dos casos, ao desconhecimento dos elementos da Arquitectura de Empresa. Os principais objectivos são: demonstrar que os referenciais da Arquitectura de Empresa podem responder às questões que surgem durante a criação do SOA; avaliar através de modelos de maturidade o nível em que se encontram as organizações que começaram pela Arquitectura de Empresa. Para atingir os objectivos do presente trabalho, foram efectuadas pesquisas qualitativas baseadas em entrevistas, de acordo com os modelos de maturidade das quais se obteve um conjunto de informação acerca dos casos de implementação. No ponto vista teórico, foram utilizadas referências bibliográficas sobre a Arquitectura Empresa, Arquitectura Orientada a Serviços, a correlação entre estas duas Arquitecturas e métodos de investigação. Quanto às conclusões deste estudo, é que é aconselhável começar pela Arquitectura de Empresa, antes da implementação da Arquitectura Orientada a Serviços.
The implementation of a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) has been a challenge to many organizations in recent years. Frequently, these implementations haven't had the expected success, since there is a limited perspective of the contribution of SOA and lack of knowledge of the importance of Enterprise Architecture as a supporting "tool" for SOA. The aim of this thesis is to show that Enterprise Architecture can give an answer to several questions that emerge when creating a Service Oriented Architecture. To conduct this research, a qualitative approach was followed, including interviews with people involved in SOA projects. Different models of maturity, supported by the literature, were analyzed in the cases studied. Most organizations studied were in a relatively early level of development of SOA.The results of this research have shown that it is very important to start previously with Enterprise Architecture before implementing SOA. Top management involvement was also recognized by interviewees as a fundamental issue for SOA success.

This thesis focuses on design of document exchange solution used between Stavební spořitelna České spořitelny a.s. (SSČS) and its external sales network, which is outdated and doesn't meet the needs of SSČS or sales network. The thesis also includes the identification of suitable basic principles used in the service-oriented architecture (SOA) concept and their application in design solutions. The aim of the thesis is a conceptual solution design, based on the principles of SOA and the following technological design of changes in existing environment, so that on this basis could be created a functional and technical specification for suppliers of these applications. Stated objective is achieved through an initial analysis of the current environment, which identifies the possibilities of existing applications, and identifies weaknesses in the process that will be changed in the new solution. The analysis covers as the environment of external sales network as the related environment in SSČS, which together figure in the process of documentation exchange. As the results of the analysis and based on theoretical knowledge and consultation with experts in the field of SOA is then formulated a proposed solution at the conceptual level, which is further elaborated in the description of the proposed changes in individual components of the new solution. The outputs of this thesis will serve SSČS both in terms of describing the existing and the new environment, and as an input for the specifications of the proposed amendments to the supplier concerned applications. Structure of the thesis consists of introduction, devoted to the characterization of SSČS and providing an initial framework for solved domain. This is followed by a description and the analysis of external sales network, particularly in terms of application equipment and communication flows, followed by a description of the environment in SSČS, which contains the components processing sent documents. Next part of thesis is devoted to the formulation of the basic concepts of SOA and selection of appropriate principles that are followed in the subsequent section to draft the solution itself, first at the conceptual level, followed by a detailed description of the necessary changes. Everything is then evaluated in the final part.

System integration is a challenging task for large organizations since they must manage complex IT infrastructures, and utilize hundreds of applications that cause a myriad of complications as a result of rapidly evolving systems and technologies. Over time customer requirements and the automation of internal business functions forced the gigantic service providers to develop and buy applications for different purposes. Not many years before, the applications in an organization were usually separated silos, specifically designed to answer a particular problem. However, this way of working was not efficient. It is not impossible to design one application that runs the total business, however, in reality it can't respond to all the needs inside an organization. In most cases the applications need to interact with each other and to reuse functionalities or data. At this point the concept of integrating systems first came to existence.The progress in computer science and information technology has also affected the way that integration between applications was developed and designed over the years. This shows that there's always some new method that should be studied and investigated. In recent years, the Enterprise Service Bus has come to the market and there are many vendors in the market claiming that they have produced the exact solution needed for requirements of organizations.In this work, the attempt was to construct an understanding of the Enterprise Application Integration practices and methods which have been utilized over the years. Mixed methods research a combination of interviews and questionnaire, and Design Science Research methods were used to generate empirical results. While the first two methods was used to supply the input for challenges of system integration, the DSR build and evaluate method was employed to test the ESB product. The criteria for the test were developed mostly as the outcome of interviews and the questionnaire as the main challenge. The aim was to verify efficiency and effectiveness of the selected and proposed ESB under special designed DSR build and evaluate phases.As a result of both theoretical and empirical studies in combination with selection of different methods in Information System research, the work presents a knowledge foundation for organizations with the aim to make a change in their current system integration practices and patterns utilizing approaches facilitated by ESB products.

This study addressed issues associated with implementing multiple data integrators. The process included implementing the same data integrator multiple times or implementing multiple different data integrators. It was shown that single data integrators implementations were failing at high rates. Environments were complicated because there were more acquisitions and mergers now than in the past, companies were required to be competitive while implementations were taking place, and possibly had short implementation time frames. The main goal of this study was to develop an agile, sturdy, and rigorous model that addressed the needs of companies that found themselves in situations where they needed to implement two or more data integrators and possibly business initiatives. This researcher developed a model and a questionnaire. The questionnaire was used to gather data from managers and practitioners in the information technology industry. The collected information was expected to show a consensus about the proposed JBurns Systems Implementation Model (JBSIM). Analysis showed various industry participants used different combinations of the proposed data integrators supported and they supported the proposed JBSIM. This model allowed for successful implementation of multiple data integrators used in this research. As this model matured, it had the potential that allowed the use of other data integrators not used in this research. It had potential that allowed corporate initiatives to be used.

I enighet med teknikutvecklingen förändras även förutsättningarna för kostnadseffektiva IT-miljöer. Systemarkitekturen för mjukvarusystem förändras i samband med detta och verksamhetens systemdesign måste följa denna utveckling för att vara konkurrenskraftig på IT-marknaden.Implementeringar av Service Oriented Architecture, förkortat SOA, har i många fall visat sig vara lönsamma investeringar till en modernare arkitektur. Denna rapport förklarar på vilka sätt SOA kan vara kostnadseffektivt för verksamheter, samt identifierar kritiska framgångsfaktorer som är avgörande vid systemskiften till SOA.I kombination av en teoretisk litteraturstudie, analys av publicerade företagsfall och empirisk undersökning visar sig SOA-baserade lösningar vara kostnadseffektiva genom sänkta kostnader, tidsbesparingar och snabbare produktutveckling. Studien identifierar huvudsakligen fem kritiska framgångsfaktorer som är direkt kopplade till hur pass kostnadseffektiv en implementering av SOA kan komma att bli.
In unity with the technological evolution the conditions for cost-effective IT environments also changes. In this context, the architecture of software systems is changing and the business system design has to follow this development in order to be competitive on the IT market.Implementations of Service Oriented Architecture, abbreviated as SOA, have in many cases proven to be profitable investments to a modern architecture. This thesis explains in which ways SOA may turn out to be cost-effective for companies, and identifies critical success factors that are crucial within a system transition to SOA.The combination of a theoretical literature study, analysis of published business cases and empirical studies provided a result in which SOA-based solutions was cost-effective by reduced costs, time savings and faster product development. The study identifies five main critical success factors which are directly related to how cost-effective an implementation of SOA may be.

With the proliferation of Internet, ERP systems like all the domains of Information Technology have known an important evolution. This final thesis project is a study about the evolution of ERP systems, more precisely about their migration to the Web giving birth to a new generation of systems: the Web-Based or Web-enabled ERP systems. This migration to the Web is justified by the difficulty of making possible the communication between partner’s legacy systems and the organizations’ ERP systems. A historical evolution of these systems is presented in order to understand the reasons that lead vendors to adopt the Web Service Technology. Based on different studies, the main technologies such as Web services, Service-Oriented Architecture and Web Application server are also presented. From an interpretative research approach mySAP ERP has been chosen as a case study. This Master’s thesis has been led into AIRBUS France Company within the framework of the SAP Customer Competence Center (SAPCCC) Web site project. The project is aimed at re-building the SAPCCC Web site. The new characteristic of the Web site is to make it accessible by all AIRBUS partners working with SAP applications. To make the Web site accessible by the partners from their own applications located on their own platforms the development has been done thanks to mySAP ERP which is an ERP using the Web service technology. Finally, this thesis presents a comparative study between traditional ERP systems and the new generation of Web-based ERP systems.

Este estudo procurou compreender a natureza da relação entre a Arquitetura Empresarial e a Arquitetura de Integração. A Arquitetura Empresarial tem sido defendida como um novo primeiro passo rumo à integração de sistemas. A natureza dos seus atributos - nomeadamente a visão holística da organização em que ela própria é o Sistema de Informação, e a orientação ao processo de negócio - juntamente com as vantagens da sua adoção, parecem enquadrar-se nas características do Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), promovendo o planeamento e implementação de uma mais consistente e flexível Arquitetura de Integração. Todavia, até muito recentemente, não existiam sequer metodologias de modelação para integração de sistemas no contexto do desenho de uma Arquitetura de Sistemas de Informação. O que demonstra que este tema abrangente e na ordem do dia, ainda tem muito por fazer. Com base num modelo conceptual proposto que relaciona as duas arquiteturas quanto à equivalência de layers e ao foco no processo de negócio, este estudo partiu para o terreno no sentido de comprovar a sua validade, procurando um matching de padrões entre o previsto conceptualmente e o observado através de um estudo de caso. A importância da investigação parece ir ao encontro do delineado no seu objetivo, i.e., a compreensão da natureza da relação entre as duas arquiteturas. Compreensão que se expandida, poderá em última instância contribuir para a explicação da importância, mas também das dificuldades, na implementação do SOA e BPM.
The aim of this study is to understand the nature of the relationship between the Enterprise Architecture and Integration Architecture. Enterprise Architecture has been advocated as a first new step towards systems integration. The nature of its attributes -namely the holistic vision of the organization as the Information System itself and its full orientation towards the business process - along with the advantages of its adoption, seems to fit well with the characteristics of Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), promoting the planning and implementation of a more consistent and flexible integration architecture. However, until very recently, there were no modeling methodologies for systems integration in the context of the design of Information Systems Architecture. This shows that this broad and current topic implies much work to be done. Based on a proposed conceptual model that relates the two architectures on the equivalence of its layers and the focus on business processes, this study left for a practical ground in order to prove its validity, looking for a matching pattern between the conceptually expected and the empirically observed through a case study. The importance of the research seems to meet the outlined in its objective, i.e., understanding the nature of the relationship between the two architectures and ultimately contribute to the explanation of the importance and difficulties in the implementation of SOA and BPM.

Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) est actuellement l'approche la plus prometteuse pour l'implémentation d'une architecture orientée services (SOA : Service-Oriented Architecture) par l'intégration des différentes applications isolées dans une plateforme centralisée. De nombreuses solutions d'intégration à base d'ESB on été proposées, elles sont soit open-source comme : Mule, Petals, ou encore Fuse, soit propriétaires tels que : Sonic ESB, IBM WebSphere Message Broker, ou Oracle ESB. Cependant, il n'en existe aucune en mesure de traiter, à la fois des aspects : d'intégration et de traitement massivement parallèle, du moins à notre connaissance. L'intégration du parallélisme dans le traitement est un moyen de tirer profit des technologies multicœurs/multiprocesseurs qui améliorent considérablement les performances des ESBs.Toutefois, cette intégration est une démarche complexe et soulève des problèmes à plusieurs niveaux : communication, synchronisation, partage de données, etc.Dans cette thèse, nous présentons l'étude d'une nouvelle architecture massivement parallèle de type ESB
Enterprise service bus (ESB) is currently the most promising approach for business application integration in distributed and heterogeneous environments. It allows to deploy a service-oriented architecture (SOA) by the integration of all the isolated applications on a decentralized platform.Several commercial or open source ESB-based solutions have been proposed. However, to the best of our knowledge, none of these solutions has integrated the parallel processing. The integration of parallelism in the treatment allows to take advantage of the multicore/multiprocessor technologies and thus can improve greatly the ESB performance. However, this integration is difficult to achieve, and poses problems at multiple levels (communication, synchronization, etc). In this study, we present a new massively parallel ESB architecture that meets this challenge

Factory shop floors of the future will see a significant increase in interconnected devices for monitoring and control. However, if a Service Orientated Architecture (SOA) is implemented on all such devices then this will result in a large number of permutations of services and composite services. These services combined with other business level components can pose a huge challenge to manage as it is often difficult to keep an overview of all the devices, equipment and services. This thesis proposes an SOA based novel assimilation architecture for integrating disparate industrial hardware based processes and business processes of an enterprise in particular the plastics machinery environment. The key benefits of the proposed architecture are the reduction of complexity when integrating disparate hardware platforms; managing the associated services as well as allowing the Micro Injection Moulding (µIM) process to be monitored on the web through service and data integration. An Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) based middleware layer integrates the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) based environmental and simulated machine process systems with frontend Google Gadgets (GGs) based web visualisation applications. A business process framework is proposed to manage and orchestrate the resulting services from the architecture. Results from the analysis of the WSN kits in terms of their usability and reliability showed that the Jennic WSN was easy to setup and had a reliable communication link in the polymer industrial environment with the PER being below 0.5%. The prototype Jennic WSN based µIM process monitoring system had limitations when monitoring high-resolution machine data, therefore a novel hybrid integration architecture was proposed. The assimilation architecture was implemented on a distributed server based test bed. Results from test scenarios showed that the architecture was highly scalable and could potentially allow a large number of disparate sensor based hardware systems and services to be hosted, managed, visualised and linked to form a cohesive business process.

Inom Svensk hälso- och sjukvård sker en stor förändring i IT-infrastruktur. En nationell tjänsteplattform som ska möjligt delning av information mellan vårdgivare i olika regioner har implementerats. Flera landsting och regioner har implementerat liknande arkitekturer lokalt för att uppnå samma effekt även internt, men också för att underlätta uppkoppling till den nationella lösningen.Genom en kvalitativ fallstudie undersöker denna uppsats implementationen av en regional tjänsteplattform i Stockholms Läns Landsting med fokus på styrning. I en teoretisk undersökning behandlas teorier gällande IT inom offentlig hälso- och sjukvård, IT-governance, SOA och SOA-governance.Syftet med studien är att analysera och utvärdera teorier gällande SOA-governance i relation till styrning av en regional tjänsteplattform inom offentlig hälso- och sjukvård och på så sätt bidra till utveckling av aktuella teorier genom en diskussion gällande dess användbarhet inom en specifik sektor. Jag syftar också att bidra till utveckling av den studerade verksamheten genom att identifiera/prognostisera möjligheter och problem med aktuella styrningsstrukturer.Resultaten indikerar att utmaningar för att etablera SOA-governance inom offentlig hälso-och sjukvård främst härstammar ur organisationens natur. Exempelvis Politisk styrning eller lagstiftning. Ramverk för SOA-governance kan inte direkt hantera dessa utmaningar, men kan ge ett stöd genom struktur i arbetet samtidigt som de kan agera rådgivande gällande lösningar som fungerat i andra verksamheter. Rekommendationen är att tidigt i processen fastställa omfång av SOA-projektet, men också dess mål relativt verksamheten. Studien tyder också på att en ökad nytta kan erhållas genom att tidigt i processen etablera en styrande grupp som med ett tydligt mandat beslutar om standarder och säkerställer dess efterlevnad redan under etableringsprojektet.

The concept of sharing computing resources among WEB participants, has been gradually extended to support scenarios in wireless world, networks, mobile devices which introduce a variety possible uses. Wireless devices become a key of sharing information among peoples. In this point of view we present the main challenges in pervasive/ubiquitous concepts for wireless applications networks, focusing on the resource of systems and information interoperability. The idea about interdisciplinary culture, as instrument of dissemination and production of the knowledge in the digital environment, is a factor that also is applied to the environment of the mobile devices that remain the necessity of a study related to the interoperability what refers to the communication and the exchange information among peoples. This phenomenon shows up as a trend of the systems solutions in Wireless environments and WEB due to variety use of the electronic devices without wire as: cellular, PDA´s, Smartphone and Pocket PC. The consolidation of the Internet as a collaboration environment as well as the sprout of the mobile applications had directly influenced the business solutions and the systems architecture in the contemporary society. This new cartographic map of the decentralized services in cyberspace is fertile environment for the study about mobile medias environment and its consequence among stakeholders in ciberspace, a scene that represents significant impact in the contribution of the information in the development of the interfaces of the mobile systems. This map of information characterizes for a harmonic acquaintance between the centralization and the decentralization of the information in the mobile network. Therefore, the specific objective of the thesis involves the idea about mobile interoperability devices under the phenomenal about: mobility, cyberspace, portable devices and the technological aspects of the hybrid networks and new media architecture. The emergency of this context represents an important research study of the technology due a great solution offered by telecom corporations and political government. The aim of this research does not only approach the technological aspect centered in design of systems and programs, but also it focuses the benefits of the interoperability about all the flow of the information, deriving of the decentralized flow of information in wireless environment and WEB, these aspects had influenced the companies and the society in the digital culture. These solutions prevail are inside the same solution for the collaboration and people integration in cyberspace
O conceito da cultura interdisciplinar, como instrumento de disseminação e produção do conhecimento no ambiente digital é um fator que também se aplica ao ambiente dos dispositivos móveis. O que traduz a necessidade de um estudo relacionado à interoperabilidade das informações no que tange a comunicação e a troca das informações por meio destes últimos. O tecnologia sem fio afirma-se como tendência das soluções sistêmicas devido à popularização do uso dos dispositivos eletrônicos (celular, PDA´s, Smartphone e Pocket PC) e principalmente pelo papel da sociedade como parte integrante no dinamismo do processo de colaboração das informações. A consolidação da Internet e do surgimento da tecnologia móvel, sob a perspectiva da colaboração das informações, influenciou diretamente as soluções de negócio e os sistemas computacionais na sociedade contemporânea. Esse novo mapa cartográfico dos serviços descentralizados no ciberespaço é um palco fértil para o estudo da influência das mídias móveis e seu reflexo nas relações humanas. O que representou um impacto significativo no ambiente de desenvolvimento de sistemas inserido num ambiente heterogêneo que se caracteriza também por uma convivência harmônica entre a centralização e a descentralização das informações. Portanto, o objetivo específico dessa dissertação é apresentar a idéia da interoperabilidade dos dispositivos móveis sob o contexto dos fenômenos contemporâneos da mobilidade, ciberespaço móvel e os aspectos tecnológicos das redes e arquitetura de sistemas móveis. A emergência deste contexto representa um palco fértil para o estudo da tecnologia sem fio oferecida pelas grandes corporações. Cette thèse se situe dans le domaine de l'informatique orientée service. Elle propose un ESB (Enterprise Service Bus) autonomique, c'est-à-dire capable de s'autogérer sur un ensemble d'aspects. Cet ESB, nommé Cilia autonomique, permet de construire des applications de médiation sensibles au contexte. Précisément, la version autonomique de Cilia, que nous proposons, permet l'optimisation de l'utilisation des ressources de la plate-forme d'exécution et l'adaptation dynamique des chaînes de médiation au niveau de la configuration et de la topologie. Notre framework permet également de présenter à tout moment un modèle simplifié des phénomènes liés à l'exécution des chaînes et, ainsi, de faciliter le raisonnement et la prise de décisions d'adaptation. Les travaux de cette thèse ont été validés dans le cadre de l'informatique pervasive. En particulier, Cilia autonomique a été utilisé et instrumenté pour la mise en œuvre d'applications de maintien à domicile et de suivi de la santé des usagers. Les résultats sont disponibles en open source.

Avec l’évolution des technologies de l’internet, les applications et plus généralement lessystèmes distribués sont de plus en plus conçus en composant et interconnectant un ensemblede services distribués. Ces services pouvant être très hétérogènes, plusieurs approches etsolutions pour la gestion de l’intégration et l’interopérabilité ont été proposées. De toutes cespropositions, les bus de services (ESB – Enterprise Service Bus) ont été désignés commeétant la solution la plus adaptée. Toutefois, le problème avec les ESB est qu’ils sont déployésdans un contexte très évolutif et très dynamique; un contexte dans lequel un grand nombre deservices peuvent être fournis et utilisés de façon concurrente à travers le bus. L’utilisationconcurrente de ces services mais aussi des ressources sous-jacentes allouées au bus (mémoire,processeur, etc.) peut conduire à des événements imprévisibles tels qu’une surcharge du bus,une indisponibilité des services, des temps de réponse élevés, une diminution de la fiabilité,etc. Dans ce contexte, des solutions efficaces permettant de garantir ou d'améliorer à la fois laqualité de service et l'évolutivité offertes par les ESB sont nécessaires. Le but de cette thèse est de proposer les principes architecturaux pour la mise en place un busde service autonome (ASB) qui offre une solution de communication scalable guidée par lestransactions des systèmes interconnectés, mais aussi par les ressources disponibles. With the accelerated evolution of Internet, distributed systems are more and more designed asa composition of distributed services that need to be composed to implement complexbusiness processes. Diversity and heterogeneity of these services raise important integrabilityand interoperability requirements. To meet these needs, the Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) hasbeen proposed as a mediator based on open and standard interfaces facilitating theintegrability and interoperability of services. However, in very active and dynamic contextswhere a large number of concurrent services can be provided and consumed via the ESB, thecompetition for using shared services, but also the underlying computing resources allocatedto the ESB (memory, processor, etc.) can lead to unpredictable events such as serviceunavailability, high response time, decrease of reliability, etc. Such anomalies need to beaddressed by proposing efficient strategies able to guarantee or to improve both the QoS andscalability offered by the ESB. The aim of this thesis is to propose an architectural framework for a QoS-aware AutonomicService Bus (ASB) able to offer in an autonomic way a scalable communication solutionguided by distributed systems transactions and the state of the underlying computingresources. The ASB offers also a differentiated integration service based on the QoSrequirements of interconnected systems

Quand des entreprises collaborent entre elles pour atteindre leurs objectifs métiers, des problèmes d'interopérabilité seront rencontrés. Afin de résoudre ces problèmes, nous étudions les domaines suivants : les processus métier collaboratifs, MDA, SOA, ESB et l'ontologie. Nous proposons alors un cadre intégrant ces cinq domaines pour les solutions TI (technologies de l''information) aux problèmes d'interopérabilité. Pour construire ce cadre, nous proposons une Méthode Basée sur des Processus pour l'Interopérabilité d'Entreprise (MBPIE), qui utilise des processus collaboratifs pour représenter des exigences de collaboration. MBPIE transforme des processus collaboratifs en plusieurs processus d'interopérabilité exécutables par des transformations de modèles. En MBPIE, l'ontologie est utilisée pour annoter les processus collaboratifs. Pendant la transformation des processus, de nouvelles informations ontologiques sont ajoutées dans les processus pour les rendre exécutables. Nous avons conçu un bus de services sémantiques Basé sur l'Ontologie et Dirigé par des Buts (BODB) pour supporter l'exécution des processus d'interopérabilité. Ce bus est basé sur un mécanisme symétrique pour l'invocation de services sémantiques. Ce mécanisme utilise l'extension de SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) qui est composée de trois parties : le format des messages BODB, le module BODB et le modèle de traitement BODB. Ce mécanisme a trois propriétés de transparence (emplacement, sémantique et technique) qui sont essentielles à l'exécution des processus d'interopérabilité. Ensemble, MBPIE et le bus constituent une approche fédérée pour résoudre les problèmes d'interopérabilité.

For systems created with Java platform, these standards are contained under Java Enterprise Edition. SOFA 2 component system provides a solid base for development of ex- tensive component oriented systems. Goal of this work is to propose and empirically verify the possibility of integration of existing industry standards for enterprise applications in SOFA 2. Proposed solution extends SOFA 2 with components for web user in- terfaces based on Java Servlet API standard and with components for persisting data into relational databases based on Java Peristence API. In addition, it integrates core technologies from the Java Enterprise Edition platform, which should make integration of further standards easier. In recent years, cloud computing is widely discussed. The service-oriented architecture (SOA) and cloud computing can get the best communication interface. In the enterprise, customer service private cloud integration and communication mechanisms. In this paper, both of cloud computing and enterprise’s customers implement the integration of service-oriented architecture (SOA). It applies to the return material authorization (RMA). In the paper, customers can easily apply the RMA’s form through the web application. The processing status can also monitor on the web site. Finally, the results show that the RMA system is convenient than the traditional method. The developed RMA system includes audit’s work, receive work, test’s work, maintenance’s work, and return work.

SOA (Service-oriented architecture) promises flexibility for the information system to improve system integration and process customization of traditional enterprise system, major enterprise system vendors, such as SAP and Oracle, and IBM have released SOA platform solution and tools. Though its application is still in a very early stage, SOA has great potential to impact system development and system integration. Our reaserch first discuss the SOA standards and compare the SOA solutions and implemetaiont methodologies from different vendors. To demonstrate the system integration and process customization of SOA-based enterprise system, we employ the services from NEO SOA-ERP to build a trainging system, and to create business scenarios which would help user understand system process and establish the concept of the whole business process.

ABSTRACT With the rapid development of technology, people are no longer satisfied with the products and services that can be used, but look forward to enjoying the process of service. Therefore, in addition to understanding the current shopping trends, the company's service processes need to keep pace with the times, in order to attract new customers and retain old ones. This way can ensure the enterprise is competitive in the market. Pitt et al. (1995) argue that past research has been biased towards product orientation, so it is necessary to incorporate service-oriented perspectives to improve the quality of information system services that users actually feel. In many of the past studies, the use of human-based, service-oriented methods to improve service quality has been less often based on user demand. This study actually visited DUSKIN and found that the paper document process is very cumbersome and there are many problems. Therefore, this study wants to explore how to design the process to implement SOMA and observe what changes have occurred in the file process after importing the SOMA model. Enterprises always consider how to get the business benefits in the competitive market and hope they can provide friendly and flexible system for diversity environment. The executives want to construct the sensitive IT architecture for the quickly responding the needs of markets. Then the service oriented architecture is gestated. The articles of related SOA are less currently and many enterprises still wait and see. Our research will collect the related articles and discuss the critical factors in SOA for enterprises. There are three constructs in our research, and we discuss the relation of these constructs and the construct of SOA adopting. In our analysis, we have received 82 respondents. In factor analysis, we found six factors including the support of government, the support of enterprises, the impetus of government, the adjustment of organizations, the leadership of software suppliers, the sale ability of software suppliers. In regression analysis, we found the support of enterprises influences the efficiency of software and the ability of operation. At the same time, we found the adjustment of organizations also influences the efficiency of software and the ability of operation. On the other side, the leadership of software suppliers also influences the efficiency of software. We found the cooperation of enterprise’s employees is the most important for adopting the SOA. In adopting the new system, the complex and flexible SOA system especially, the work flows or the department of enterprise may be adjusted. Therefore, the employees must be moved for the new work flow or the new department. At that time, the cooperation of the employees is more important. Moreover, we also found the resource of enterprise is important. Enterprises must support enough personnel and budget for construct the SOA system. Of course, the support of executives is very important for developing the new system which can affect the benefits of enterprises in implementing the SOA system.

In recent years, Taiwan''s mature mid-sized enterprise tends to apply large-scale activities and market diversification strategy to improve the competitiveness of enterprises in the domestic and international market. Studies pointed out that the need of transparent IT services and platform of rapid response is arising. Today''s IT environment is equipped with multi-platform, multi-system, multi-user front-end handheld device. Using ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), CRM (Customer Relationship Management), BPM (Business Process Management), and other services to assist daily operations of enterprise, and support business strategy. These make managers quickly obtaining information to facilitate decision-making. Because information systems were gradually deployed, there is no overall or integrated planning framework. For this reason, the era of integration for cross-platform, cross-system and across different front-end device is coming. The most important thing is to integrate information systems as a self-service portal. ITIL V3 (Information Technology Infrastructure Library Version 3) Service Operation regulates five main processes and activities in supporting the information services'' daily operational processes. Mature IT platform integration solution is in need. Therefore, use of enterprise service-oriented architecture to build self-service portal workflow has become possible solution. Implementing ITIL V3 Service Operation to achieve dealing with issue automation, and enhanced user ability to solve problems by themselves. This study combined with IT governance service operation and enterprise self-service portal. Using service-oriented architecture to increase platform adaption, and create service level agreements. The result can be effectively manages the enterprise service in the operational problems.

Enterprise Service Bus (Enterprice Service Bus, ESB) was published in 2002, ESB is connection-oriented (Connectivity-Oriented) of the communications infrastructure, which its mainly in assistance service-oriented architecture (SOA) manage and link the various application services, the service components and services component of the delivery and scheduling of scheduling, to prevent the service component is calling and when resources waiting period. In this study, using IBM WebSphereESB for system display, to verify whether the service-oriented architecture of the enterprise service bus principle and the principle that services can be real time,repetitive, reuse, integration, instant message. This study found that IBM WebSphere Software itself is closed software, in Heterogeneous platform integration with some parts are not compatible. Therefore, this study may provide follow-up if the researchers to consider the integration of non-closed software for reference.

Wichtige Ziele sind die Erschließung neuer Märkte, die Reduzierung von Kosten sowie die Steigerung der Effizienz. Eine Voraussetzung besteht darin, vorhandene Geschäftsprozesse flexibel anpassen und zügig neue Prozesse einführen zu können. Das bedingt wandlungsfähige und innovationsfördernde Systemlandschaften. An dieser Stelle setzen die durch Geschäftsprozesse getriebenen serviceorientierten Architekturen für ERP-Systeme an. Mit SOA-ERP-Systemen wird es möglich, selektiv und am Bedarf ausgerichtet neue Prozesse zu gestalten und das Prozess-Design mit der Einbindung von Lieferanten, Kunden und Partnern über Unternehmensgrenzen hinweg zu gestalten. SAP Enterprise-SOA bezeichnet die serviceorientierte ERP-Architektur der SAP AG. Die darauf basierenden Anwendungen entstehen – unter Einsatz der Enterprise-SOA Roadmap-Methodik – durch die gezielte Kombination von Plattform-, Ex-tension- und Composite-Applikationen. Letztere stellen hochflexible, aus Enterprise-Services/Services von Drittanbietern erstellte, Anwendungen dar. Deren Design durch SOA-Experten liegt ein hohes Maß an Erfahrungswissen zu Grunde. With numerous emerging information technologies and solutions (e.g. ERP, BPM, SCM, CRM…etc), decision makers strive to choose the ones which fit their organizations the most. In order to keep competitive in the market, enterprises need these technologies to stay responsive to operating information and flexible to changes. However, this is not an easy question to answer. Most of the IT officiers today are facing complex IT landscapes with many disconnected and legacy systems. Many Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) platforms suggest solutions to this problem but fail to fulfill their promises because of costly TCO and inadequate compatibility. Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) offers a practical and affordable solution to the above question. This essay proposes an SOA implementation plan to a mobile phone distribution company with some case studies. Through this implementation plan, we try to analyze the possible ROI and foreseeable risk. In our case, the legacy and disconnected systems include ERP system, OA system, CRM system, account closing system, bonus calculation system and logistic support system. We also discuss how SOA framework can facilitate the implementation process.

As the complexity of markets and the dynamicity of systems evolve, the need for interoperable systems capable of strengthening enterprise communication effectiveness increases. This is particularly significant when it comes to collaborative enterprise networks, like manufacturing supply chains, where several companies work, communicate, and depend on each other, in order to achieve a specific goal. Once interoperability is achieved, that is once all network parties are able to communicate with and understand each other, organisations are able to exchange information along a stable environment that follows agreed laws. However, as markets adapt to new requirements and demands, an evolutionary behaviour is triggered giving space to interoperability problems, thus disrupting the sustainability of interoperability and raising the need to develop monitoring activities capable of detecting and preventing unexpected behaviour. This work seeks to contribute to the development of monitoring techniques for interoperable SOA-based enterprise networks. It focuses on the automatic detection of harmonisation breaking events during real-time communications, and strives to develop and propose a methodological approach to handle these disruptions with minimal or no human intervention, hence providing existing service-based networks with the ability to detect and promptly react to interoperability issues.

Actualmente, o mundo electrónico apresenta-se como uma alternativa para transacções de compra e venda apresentando uma ampla variedade de informações aos consumidores sendo ainda um meio eficiente e rápido para a troca de informações entre empresas, governos e consumidores. A inclusão das novas Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação proporciona uma nova infra-estrutura para as várias actividades produtivas e comunicativas, vitais para a vida organizacional das empresas, apresentando-se como suporte às decisões, como factor de produção, e exercendo influência sobre o comportamento das pessoas. O crescimento de computadores ligados à Internet ocorre de forma generalizada em vários países, incluindo Portugal, demonstrando assim, que este meio de comunicação pode ser utilizado independentemente de factores regionais, culturais, políticos e económicos. A explosão da Internet revolucionou a forma de conduzir os negócios nas mais diversas áreas, estando as aplicações de comércio electrónico presentes na maioria das empresas. O comércio electrónico pode ser definido como a realização de transacções de bens e serviços recorrendo a computadores mediados por redes informáticas, sendo que o pagamento e/ou a entrega dos produtos transaccionados não são, necessariamente, efectuados por via electrónica. Com o advento dessas aplicações, foi identificado um grande conjunto de necessidades e requisitos a serem atendidos. Assim, as tecnologias de informação e os processos de reengenharia empresarial, usado em conjunto, deram à luz importantes ferramentas estratégicas, Sistemas de Gestão Empresarial (ERP’s), que as empresas passaram a usar. No entanto verificou-se que muitas das empresas eram suportadas por sistemas legados, dispersos e pouco ajustados às realidades do mercado, e que a estratégia mais adequada é efectuar uma integração das aplicações de comércio electrónico com os chamados sistemas de backoffice ao invés de se tentar uma unificação de ambientes, plataformas e tecnologias dado o alto custo e tempo. Perante tal situação pretendeu-se analisar o modo como as empresas integram as soluções de comércio electrónico com outros sistemas, nomeadamente, tecnologias utilizadas, vantagens e constrangimentos verificados. Dado que o mercado das tecnologias mudou significativamente nos últimos tempos e dada a crescente competitividade entre as empresas e os mercados das Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação, o âmbito da integração alargou-se a toda a organização. Assim, com o recente surgimento dos Web Services e da arquitectura Service Oriented Architecture criaram-se novas alternativas às abordagens mais tradicionais de integração. Com os estudos de casos analisados verificou-se que realmente a utilização de Web Services / Arquitectura Orientada a Serviços são uma solução para a integração de aplicações de comércio electrónico com outros sistemas de informação. Por outro lado as diversas softwarehouses, face à evolução das tecnologias e crescente competitividade, conseguiram dar uma resposta aos problemas de integração com que as empresas se deparavam nos últimos anos.
Nowadays, the e-world presents itself as an alternative to buying and selling transactions presenting a wide variety of information. It also a fast and efficient way to exchange information between companies, governments and consumers. The inclusion of the new Information and Communication Technologies provides a new infrastructure for the various productive activities and communication, vital to the companies structural life. Its presents itself as a support for decisions, as an input, and it influences people behaviour. The growth of computers that are connected to the Internet is widespreading in several countries, including Portugal, thus demonstrating that this means of communication can be used regardless of regional, cultural, political and economic factors. The significant increase of the Internet revolutionized the way of conducting business in many different areas, and the applications of electronic commerce in the majority of companies. E-commerce can be defined as the completion of transactions of goods and services by using computer-mediated networks, and the payment and / or delivery of products involved are not necessarily carried out electronically. With the advent of these applications, it was identified a wide range of needs and requirements to be met. Thus, the information technologies and the business reengineering processes, used together, gave birth to important strategic tools, Enterprise Management Systems (ERP), which companies began to use. However it was found that many of the companies were supported by legacy systems, scattered and poorly adapted to the realities of the market, and that the most appropriate strategy is to integrate the applications of e-commerce systems with the so-called backoffice instead of trying to an unification of environments, platforms and technologies, given the high cost and time. Due to this situation it was intended to examine how companies integrate the solutions for Electronic Commerce with other systems, in particular, technologies, benefits and constraints encountered. As the market for technology has changed significantly in recent times and given the increasing competition between companies and markets of Information Technology and Communication, the scope of integration has been extended to the entire organization. So with the recent emergence of Web Services and the Service Oriented Architecture Architecture new alternatives to more traditional approaches to integration have been created. When the case studies were reviewed, it was putted the use of Web Services/ the Services Oriented Architecture are really a solution for the integration of applications of electronic commerce with other information systems. On the otherhand the various softwarehouses, in the face of the changing technology and the increasing competition, managed to give an answer to the problems of integration with which companies came across in recent years.

A inovação aberta está, visivelmente, a assumir uma importância crescente nas organizações. Como tal, estudar os impactos que a mesma cria tornou-se, desde logo, um desafio. Avaliar os efeitos que pode originar não só na performance como também nos processos organizacionais, tempo e pessoas, é uma tarefa difícil e de grande complexidade, dado o vasto leque de fatores que estão na base da capacidade de inovar de cada organização. Como forma de ultrapassar esta barreira, e uma vez que a literatura de especialidade carece de estudos e frameworks que possam evidenciar estes impactos, parece evidente que a criação de um modelo de avaliação holístico consiga colmatar as limitações evidenciadas na literatura. Assim, a presente dissertação propõe um modelo de análise que recorre ao uso integrado de técnicas de mapeamento cognitivo, suportadas pela abordagem Strategic Options Development and Analysis (SODA), com a técnica DEcision MAking Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL), no sentido de evidenciar o impacto que certas dinâmicas, ligadas à inovação aberta, podem gerar dentro de uma pequena ou média empresa (PME). Como tal, procurar-se-á evidenciar um processo de análise mais realista e absoluto, promovendo, assim, uma tomada de decisão mais clara e informada.
Open innovation is clearly taking on an increasing importance in organizations. Studying its impacts has become a challenge for everyone. Assessing the possible effects not only on performance but also on processes, time and people, is a difficult and complex task, given the different capacity of each organization to innovate. As a way to overcome this barrier, and considering the lack of studies and frameworks in the literature related to open innovation, this dissertation proposes a methodological framework that combines cognitive mapping techniques, supported by the Strategic Options Development and Analysis (SODA) approach, and the DEcision MAking Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) technique. This dual methodology allows the impact that certain dynamics related to open innovation can produce within a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) to be analyzed. The information was collected from SME managers and entrepreneurs, who accepted to participate in face-to-face group meetings. The results of our framework were validated by both the panel members and a project manager at COTEC Portugal – a leading think-and-action network for advancing technology diffusion and business innovation cooperation. Contributions and limitations of our proposal are also analyzed.
