The paper highlights the socio-economic aspects of the concept of hijra or migration in the Islamic tradition. The paper argues that the conception of migration in the Islamic tradition has been shaped by not only religious and ethical values, but also social and economic motivations and consequences ever since the first migrations to Abyssinia and Medina. The paper addresses the notion and practice of hijra in Islamic history by highlighting its ethical and religious value as well as its nature and evolution into a socio-economic activity motivated by different forms of oppression, including social and political oppression as well as economic deprivation. The study draws on the history of Islam and the Islamic society, the sources of Islamic law and doctrines, and the thought of scholars in relation to the changes in approaches to migration, and the conceptualization of hijra as an activity motivated by oppression and economic hardship.

This article is devoted to the analysis of permanent and temporary migrations of the Altai Region population in the context of the socio-economic space integration. Intraregional, interregional and international migration links were described; factors and mechanisms that determine their scale, intensity and effectiveness were identified; specificity of the influence of the various migration types on the development of integration processes in the socio-economic space was shown. In the field of population exchange with other regions of Russia, the region acts as a donor, which limits its demographic potential both for its own development and for the development of integration processes in other areas. International migrations were characterized by the expansion of the migration interactions space, the complexity of its structure and the positive migration balance with neighboring countries throughout the study period. Intra-regional migrations were characterized by the concentration of the population in large cities and surrounding rural areas. As a result, there was a fragmentation of the internal socioeconomic space. Within the dynamics of the analyzed interactions, four stages were distinguished, two of which (1990-1994s and 2010-2013s) were characterized by an increase in migration ties, and the other two (1995-2009s and 2014-2020s) by their weakening. The conclusion about the expanding space of interregional migration interactions and especially significant role of Siberian regions in this process was made.

The expansion of the boundaries of globalization in itself leads to the facilitation of the movement of people from one country to another. As the reality of past decades has shown, this could be voluntary or involuntary movement, which is caused by the need to find jobs. Over the years, the migration of these flows of people between countries has acquired a large scale and has become a pressing challenge. Migration is among the most important global challenges, which is accompanied by not only social, unsustainable, and severe economic problems, but also creates many difficulties in many countries throughout the world. One of the major reasons for present-day human migrations is due to socio-economic problems. The analysis of the migration balance showed us that in the first decade of independence (1994-2002), the negative migration balance was particularly high (25-190 thousand people). In 2022, as a result of the migration changes caused by the Russian-Ukrainian war, the positive migration balance amounted to 56,509 people. The analysis of these migration flows in terms of age, in 2022, has shown that the number of immigrants in all age-groups was higher than the number of emigrants, which is also the result of the migration changes caused by the Russian-Ukrainian war. As expected, emigrants and immigrants (economically active population) between the ages of 16 and 64 have the highest specific share, which made up 84% and 86% of their total number, respectively. Given the increased opportunities for international mobility and the driving factors of migration, a reduction in emigration flows is unlikely to occur in the near future. In our opinion, it will be important to bring these flows into a safe and legal framework, as well as to strengthen relations with the large Georgian diaspora living abroad and to involve them in the socio-economic development of the country. It should be noted that today, remittances continue to play an important role in the lives of migrant families remaining in Georgia. As studies show, despite their relatively high amount, remittances have little impact on the country's economic development. Thus, it is important to establish a migration policy in Georgia that will contribute to the reduction of irrational, intensive emigration, the legalization of migration, the increase of the efficiency of migration, the return of migrants and their socio-economic reintegration in their homeland, the harmonization of the migration policy of Georgia with the measures taken by the countries of immigration, and the normalization of immigration processes.

illagers of Chhina, Rawalpindi have been migrating overseas since the 1950s.Their households persist much intensity for development once because of multiple socio-economic factors i.e., limited natural resources and less productivity in agriculture. Unemployment, remittances, and, pleasing social status have played a part in the decision for overseas migration. 47.4 % of villagers as skilled and unskilled workers have been serving in eight differentcountries for a couple of decades. Overseas migration has been influenced by the interrelation of socio-economic, cultural, and kin ties. An altruistic spin opted by villagers to choose a strange region to meet hopeful socio-economic sustainability for their families in the native countries. They have strived for the well-being of their native dependents through remittance. The bulk of money in the form of remittances established a sustainable resource for the uplift of the deprived condition of migrant households.

This paper examines the socio-economic implications of migration in the Garhwal Himalaya region of India. Data was gathered from both primary and secondary sources and through a participatory approach. Secondary data on district wide population, number of migrants and number of ghost villages was collected from the Censuses of India (2001-2011). A case study of 10 villages from five districts was conducted and data on in and out-migration, reason of migration and migration’s impact on sending and receiving areas were gathered. A rapid visit to rural and urban areas was done and a participatory approach was used to understand the causes and consequences of migration. The entire Garhwal region has registered an 18.3% generally rural-urban out-migration during the period 2001-2011. About 724 villages (7.7% of the total villages) were found virtually uninhabited (ghost) and about 943 (10.1%) villages were found with a population of less than 10. Similarly, about 8.6% of households have out-migrated from the 10 study villages during the same period (2001-2011). Out and immigration has caused several adverse impacts including land abandonment and ruined settlements in rural areas and haphazard urban growth, creation of slums, increasing pollution and road congestion in the urban centers. This study suggests that sustainable agricultural practices, development of infrastructural facilities, employment generation and the development of natural/pilgrimage tourism can control migration in Garhwal region.

ABSTRACT: Since early years, humans are migrating to ensure their survival or to improve their socio-economic position in society. In Pakistan, internal migration has not been given proper attention in policy making. Consequently, government is facing problems in managing the challenges and opportunities posed by internal migration. The present study attempted to analyse socio-economic factors that play crucial role in a household's decision to migrate internally by using data of Labour Force Survey 2020-21. In the questionnaire of labour force survey, there is a specific section related to migration. The migration is defined as 'households that has moved from one district to another district or to different country', it excludes the migration within district. The logit regression has been used to estimate the model. It has been found that more educated people particularly having professional and technical education tends to migrate. The internal migration increases with age, but after certain level it tends to start declining. It has also concluded that employment in public sector (due to job security or provision of housing facilities) motivate people to internally migrate. People belonging to middle income families are more likely to migrate in comparison to rich or very poor. Study confirms that search of better job opportunities and family compulsions are major factors in internal voluntary migration. However, law and order situations emerge as a significant factor in forced migration. As the internal migration are much higher than international migration so there is need that role of internal migration may be recognised in reducing poverty, employment and socio-economic development. Unfortunately, there exists lack of policy on internal labour flows. Most the labour force is not even registered at migration destinations. It is very crucial to calculate value of domestic remittances. It will be helpful in devising the policy to improve the status of internal migrants by providing them targeted technical and vocational education training so that they can get better job opportunities in destination places.

In the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century, Kosovan society faced numerous social, economic, and political problems. These problems became the main cause of the high rate of migration. Many citizens, especially young people, were forced to migrate to European countries and beyond in the absence of prospects in Kosovo. Unemployed and employed people migrated in search of a better life. Migration from Kosovo continues to be high to this day. Countries like Germany began issuing work visas to Kosovans after 2005, leading many young people to migrate to Germany. To understand the situation of Kosovan migrants before and after migration, the study (N = 350) aimed to investigate the situation of unemployment, employment, and satisfaction with pre - and post-migration earnings. The results show that around 75% of Kosovan migrants were unemployed before migrating and about 50% of those who were employed had low monthly incomes (up to 200 euros), while in the host society this situation has changed positively. The results indicate that, after the migration to the host society, about 85 % of Kosovan migrants are employed, over 50% have high incomes (around 2000 euros), and about one-third have changed their post-migration occupation.

AbstractIn this article, we aim to contribute to the literature on social identification among migrants and minorities by offering a theoretical framework that accounts for the interplay of socio-psychological factors, local and transnational group dynamics, and the socio-political environment in which migrants live. This approach enables us to analyse not only the political significance of identity, but also the psychology of identity formation. Drawing upon qualitative data, we analyse how young Somalis (N = 43) living in the municipalities of Malmö (Sweden) and Ealing (United Kingdom) construct and negotiate their ethnic social identities in relation to: Somali elders living in the same city; Somalis in Somalia and in the diaspora; and the British/Swedish majority society. We show that, to secure a positive self-identity vis-à-vis these referent groups, young Somalis engage in psychological strategies of separation; social competition; and social creativity. The socio-political environment in which they are embedded influences which strategy they adopt.

This study analyzes how the migration pattern in Laos is influenced by the regionally differentiated modernization process, socioeconomic change, international migration and resettlement, by using census data from 1995 and 2005. Though Laos has experienced a rather dramatic socio-economic change during this period the inter-district and inter-province migration rate has decreased. But the empirical analyses show an increasing rural-urban migration and indicate a strong impact on migration from socio-economic changes. But internal migration patterns are also influenced by international migration patterns and resettlement of rural populations. Although socio-economic changes are major determinants to migration, also regional policies and opportunities for international migration are key factors influencing migration in developing countries.

For the last decade there has been a lively debate on urban arrival spaces. Saunders’ (2011) widely received book Arrival Cities can be seen as catalyst of this debate. Taking a hitherto largely unexplored comparative approach, based on two empirical research studies on migrant workers and highly-skilled migrants in Singapore, this study debates the notion of arrival cities and spaces and argues for a differentiated perspective on the complex and interdependent processes of spatially and socially arriving. By comparing how the politics of mobilities, migration management and differential inclusion influence the migration trajectories of workers and professionals we argue that the concept of transient spaces might be a more fruitful approach for understanding the differentiated processes of arriving and (not) becoming socio-spatially embedded. In order to educe the relevance of a processual perspective, and for a systematic comparison, we apply four analytical dimensions that shed light on the process of migrating, arriving, and passing through. These four dimensions comprise (1) arriving, (2) settling, (3) mingling locally and translocally, and (4) planning ahead for future mobilities. We argue that the scholarship on politics of mobilities needs to take note of the combined effects of states’ and companies’ neoliberal politics of mobility throughout the migration process, and of the increasing relevance of socio-technological orderings, which imprint migrants’ socio-spatial embedding.

Today, the migration process and its status are of global importance. Women's participation in population migration is a complex and controversial process. Therefore, this article examines the socio-economic reasons for women's participation in migration, because the creation of favorable conditions and opportunities for women in migration is an important part of their social protection. is one of the directions. The article also describes the growth and decline trends of population migration on the basis of statistical analysis. In the regulation of external labor migration processes, in our opinion, it is expedient to expand legal labor migration.

Migration, which is a consequence of the uneven socio-economic development, poverty, and environmental problems of various regions, on the one hand, has significant potential and can help improve economic and social conditions, and on the other hand, it becomes a generator of socioeconomic and other risks, influencing the strengthening inequalities. The purpose of the article is to identify the main forms of socio-economic risks of internal migration of the population of Kazakhstan and assess their impact on the socio-territorial stability of the regional society. To assess the socioeconomic factors affecting the dynamics of internal migration population flows, a systematic approach was applied, and methods of component analysis of the regional standard of living, sampling and grouping of quantitative and qualitative indicators were used. The main directions of the impact of socio-economic risks of migration on the socio-territorial mobility of the population are substantiated. The main forms of socio-economic risks of internal migration of the Kazakhstan population are determined. It is substantiated that the closest relationship exists between the level and quality of life systems and the increase in migration flows. The study concluded that migration is a complex process, which is influenced by the changing socio-economic conditions for the economy and society development and affects the standard of living and lifestyle of the population. This necessitates not only the regulation of migration processes in the country but also the development of mechanisms to reduce the socio-economic risks of migration and their impact on life support systems and livelihoods.

Background. To date, a significant number of researchers have noted the shortage of highly qualified scientific personnel employed in research organizations. It is due to a number of reasons, among which emigration of scientists to those countries where highly qualified work is paid higher can be marked. In this regard, issues related to the international mobility of postgraduate students, including educational mobility, are very important. Objective. The study focuses on the socio-psychological characteristics of postgraduate students' attitudes to educational migration. Study Participants. The study involved students of postgraduate schools at research organizations involved in the training of graduate students in the field of educational sciences, as well as pedagogical universities in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other regions of the Russian Federation. A total of 803 respondents were interviewed. Methods. The article is based on the materials of a monitoring questionnaire. Results. The study revealed a connection between socio-demographic factors (gender, age) and attitudes related to educational migration: men more often indicate a desire to improve their professional qualifications abroad; with age, the number of graduate students wishing to study abroad decreases. In addition, the influence of socio-stratification factors (the income level of graduate students and the educational status of the family) on attitudes towards educational migration was revealed: high-income graduate students, as well as those graduate students whose parents have academic degrees, are more focused on professional development abroad. The study also showed that migration attitudes related to temporary educational migration are significantly more widespread among graduate students than among researchers. Conclusion. The attitudes of graduate students related to educational migration are determined by the influence of a number of socio-demographic and socio-stratification factors. At the same time, studying abroad is considered as a career elevator, primarily by those postgraduate students who do not plan to link their further professional activities with scientific work and teaching at budgetary institutions. Also, the larger migration mobility has been revealed in postgraduate students as a socio-professional group in comparison with researchers.

Population migration to other cities and countries can significantly impact demographics and fiscal policy, subsequently leading to the weakening of the economy in sending regions. Despite numerous studies demonstrating the significant influence of social and economic factors on the formation of migration intentions, new data in this field continues to emerge, which has not yet been systematically organized. This study aims to systematize and detail the socio-economic predictors of migration intentions through a theoretical review of research, including the latest works. Based on the analyzed literature, five categories of socio-economic predictors of migration intentions were identified: demographic, economic, socio-psychological, political, and cultural. This research contributes to a more detailed understanding of socio-economic predictors of migration intentions, enabling more precise decision-making in the development of government policies aimed at managing migration flows.

The article describes the socio-economic problems of labor migration in Russia, CIS and the world in General. It is noted that Russia plays the role of a donor country supplying manpower to the markets of host countries, however, in relation to the CIS and some neighbouring Asian countries, Russia is the host country. The causes of migration flows directed to and from Russia our country abroad are studied. The segments of the labor market in which workers compete with citizens of the Russian Federation are identified. The social, economic and legal problems of labour migrants are analyzed. It is emphasized that the main problems at present are born not by the scale of immigration to Russia, and its spontaneous, uncontrolled character. The mechanisms of harmonization of social and labour relations on the labour market are proposed.

Considering the debates regarding population migration from rural areas, the purpose of this study is to analyze socio-economic indicators to identify the main challenges of rural areas in Romania as well as to identify solutions to ensure the development of the Romanian rural environment. Our research aims to present the socioeconomic consequences of the rural population's migration by analyzing indicators such as the population by domicile by residence, the average age of the population by domicile, the flow of internal urban and rural migration, the population activity rate, the employed population per economic activities, and the total average monthly income obtained by a rural person. In addition, at the end of the study, a Pearson correlation was made with the help of the SPSS software, which identified the link between income from agriculture and the number of people working in agriculture. The results obtained indicated that while the number of people employed in agriculture, forestry, and fishing is decreasing, the average total income from agriculture is increasing. On the other hand, the migration of the population from the rural area to the urban area is on average about 82 thousand people and the rural population is in a continuous decrease, while the average age registered in the rural area is higher compared to the average age registered in urban areas.

Migration is a topical issue in Georgia, as it is in many other countries. There are various causes that contribute to migration, including changes in the economy and personal choices. It should be mentioned that according to the research, in the context of Georgia's recent history, financial transfers from immigrants may be able to support the nation's economic growth. Remittances have the potential to stimulate individual sectors of the economy, contribute to the stability of national currencies, improve household living standards. To some extent, the state can direct the remittance resource towards social economic development by implementing appropriate policies.

Poland is an important country to study when assessing migration. In fact, many scholars who focus on migration and its impact on the local economy, in relation to Poland, focus on Polish migrants living and working in countries such as the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, or Australia. This viewpoint presents a different focus by addressing the need to conduct more work on migrants who are coming to Poland to work to fulfill labor shortages and take advantage of the country’s growing economy. Specifically this paper will look at Ukrainians who are migrating to Poland. The viewpoint will focus on push/pull factors and touch on aspects of the lived experience of Ukrainian migrants in Poland. This paper helps identify some observed trends from interviews to identify future research directions related to socio-economic inclusion or exclusion.

Social, economic and political changes in society have actualized the problem of human migration. However, migration processes are not a new phenomenon, since they accompany human development constantly. It was in the second half of the 19th century that European countries began to keep records of people who migrated. At the same time, the COVID-19 pandemic has stirred up the world today, which, of course, has stopped the pace of migration processes, and the situation with the course of this disease in the world is very different, which can cause a new wave of migration of people to safer countries. In our opinion, it is relevant to pay attention to the effect of socio-cultural factors on the migrant’s personality, which is reflected in adaptation and identification processes.

The burning issues in Russian society, such as population aging and labor shortages, require leveling by searching for state policy tools. The study aims to determine migration patterns in Russia from 2015 to 2021, as well as to form a set of state policy measures for maintaining migration growth as a tool to achieve socio-economic and demographic effects for the national economy. The objectives of the study are to analyze migration processes in 2011‒2021, classify the factors causing the imbalance in migration processes in Russia, and substantiate measures to maintain migration growth in Russia amid increasing socio-economic and political instability. The study was conducted using the following methods: economic analysis, comparative analysis, graph method, systematization, and systematic approach. The article provides a comprehensive analysis of the development of migration processes in Russia from 2011 to 2021, which emphasizes the importance of managing migration processes in addressing burning issues in Russian society. The dynamics of the migration growth of the Russian population over a ten-year period have been studied, the points of highest decline have been identified, and the causes for their existence have been revealed. The features of international migration are investigated. It is concluded that the potential of foreign migration movements to fill the labor shortage in Russia is decreasing. Positive and negative trends in the domestic population movement in Russia have been identified. The vectors of migration process management are substantiated in order to eliminate the existing issues in terms of demography, labor market functioning, and the rise in social conflict. The study’s findings lead to the conclusion that it is necessary to maintain the population migration growth, especially during times of increasing political tension, as well as to attract qualified specialists to Russia to address the issues of natural population loss and to fill the labor shortage.

One of the most striking features of the contemporary world is the scale and complexity of international and internal migration and the rapidly increasing size of indigenous ethnic minorities in the national populations of many countries. International migration continues to be mainly from poor to rich nations but the more recent years have seen migration patterns becoming multidirectional, with migration flows moving between developed countries, amongst developing countries as well as from developing to developed countries. The scale of internal migration in some countries is dazzling. For instance, an estimated 260 million ‘peasant workers’ have moved to cities in China. The number of indigenous ethnic minorities in the country has also grown substantially, now reaching 106 million. These and other features of population change pose a serious challenge to policy-makers and the general population in many counties, in terms of making and implementing policies of social inclusion for migrant and indigenous ethnic minorities, ensuring equal access to educational and occupational opportunities, and taking measures to facilitate societal acceptance of the ethnic minority groups. With this in mind, we have, in this thematic issue, collected papers that address issues of ethnic integration in both developed and developing countries.

The present paper is an attempt to analyse the spatial patterns of migration, variations in the level of socio-economic development and the relationship between total migration (dependent variable) and selected variables of development (independent variables) among the states of India. The entire research work is based on secondary sources of data, collected from Census of India publications (2011), Migration Table – D Series, Handbook of Statistics of Indian States, Primary Census Abstract of India and Basic Road Statistics of India. The boundary of a state has been taken as the smallest unit of the study. The present study reveals that, from the southern part of the country, the level of migration changes rapidly from high to low grade towards the north. On the other hand, the states lying in the western and eastern part experienced medium to high level of migration in comparison to the north-eastern states having a low level of migration in India. The level of development is high or medium in northern, western and southern states in comparison to the states, lying in the eastern and north-eastern parts of the country.

The migration is a dynamic process and it effects the growth of economy. The process of migration may happen due to number of reasons and factors. The migration may be internal and external. The present study investigates and explains the factors responsible for migration in Pakistan. This study is limited to explain the internal migration in Pakistan and concludes that female education is a significant determinant of the internal migration. The study uses the data from Labour Force Survey 2017-2022. Data is statistically analyzed on the basis of distribution of migrants by their characteristics and on the basis of migration reasons. It captures the impact of age, education and other factors on the migration process. The determinants of migration are estimated with the help of logistic regression model. Here dependent variable of migration model is dichotomous. Therefore, logistic regression model is formulated to know the impact of education and other factors on internal migration in Pakistan. The positive and significant effect of education on migration for both males and females is found and it proves that migration is a human capital investment.

Sur certains points, cette population, surtout celle des jeunes, est confrontée à des difficultés comparables à celles des «immigrés» étrangers.

Introduction. The relevance of the study is due to the significant role of population migration in ensuring regional development. At the same time, the economic consequences of migration are largely determined by the characteristics of migration flows. The purpose of this article is to determine the impact of socio-demographic features of migration flows in the southern Russian regions on the indicators of their sustainable development. Materials and Methods. Methods of descriptive statistics were used in the analysis of socio-demographic characteristics of migration flows. To test the hypothesis about the impact of socio-demographic characteristics of migration flows on the sustainability of regional development, a correlation analysis of panel data using Excel tools was used. The source of the information was the data of the Federal State Statistics Service for the regions of the Southern Federal District, traced in dynamics from 2002 to 2021. Results. It is established that migration processes in the southern Russian regions demonstrate both positive and negative effects on individual components of their sustainable development. The strength and direction of this impact is largely determined by the socio-demographic characteristics of migration flows. A strong positive relationship between migration indicators and economic and environmental indicators of sustainable development is demonstrated for almost all regions. The impact on the social sphere is ambivalent. At the same time, there is a rather strong influence of the gender characteristics of migration flows on the socio-ecological aspects of life. Discussion and Conclusion. Migration will contribute to increasing the sustainability of the development of regional economies only while simultaneously solving the tasks of creating jobs, improving social conditions and preserving the environment. The findings emphasize the need for regional authorities to take into account the socio-demographic structure of migration flows when developing strategies for socio-economic development and can be useful in conditions of increasing geopolitical instability.

The aims of this study were 1) to find out about the migration process of the Bugis ethnic group to Palu City, to explain the driving factors in the area of origin of South Sulawesi, the pull factors in the destination area of Palu City as well as the inhibiting factors and barriers to migrating to Palu City. 2) Knowing about social interactions and socio-cultural adaptations of the Bugis ethnic in Palu City. The method used is a qualitative approach involving 8 informants. The results showed that: Migration of the Bugis Ethnic to Palu City was motivated by economic factors due to limited job opportunities and increasingly competitive life along with population growth in the area of origin of South Sulawesi. The factor of "siri" cultural values, past conflicts and political upheavals also contributed to the migration of the Bugis Ethnic to Palu City. The swift flow of migration of the Bugis Ethnic to Palu City has an impact on social relations, both associative and dissociative which automatically forces Bugis migrants to be more adaptive to the surrounding social environment, therefore, the cultural values possessed by the Bugis Ethnic are internalized in his life is expected to become a social glue in social interaction in the overseas area of Palu City.
