A healthy lifestyle is defined as ‘a way of living that lowers the risk of being seriously ill or dying early.’ Although barriers and facilitators of healthy lifestyles have been well-studied among populations like those with chronic non-communicable diseases, adolescents, and older adults in Asia, less information is available on barriers and facilitators perceived by the general adult population. Using a qualitative methodology and leveraging the socio-ecological model, the current study aimed to understand the barriers and facilitators of a healthy lifestyle in a sample of Singapore residents. Overall, 30 semi-structured interviews were conducted in English and other local languages from August 2020 to March 2021. Transcripts were analysed using framework analysis. Five main themes pertaining to personal, interpersonal, environmental, socio-cultural, and policy-level factors were classified under the two overarching categories of barriers and facilitators of healthy lifestyles. The results of this study offer important insights into understanding the barriers and facilitators to the adoption of a healthy lifestyle among people in Singapore. Furthermore, our findings illustrate the complex interplay between individuals, social relationships, environment, and policy that can act as either a barrier or a facilitator to adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Socio-cultural background as a factor in social life can provide direction for how the community preserves local culture. The lack of knowledge about the existence of the Karangbesuki Temple site can be a sign that the socio-cultural literacy of the temple is still poor. Based on the conditions above, the priority of this research is to find out how the socio-cultural literacy of youth is related to the digital preservation of Karangbesuki Temple culture. This qualitative study used a phenomenological approach with five young people in the Karangbesuki area as informants. The characteristics of the management of Karangbesuki Temple still use the concept of self-help, so it does require community involvement, especially local communities. Karangbesuki youth, as members of the community, can help promote the site and learn to carry on oral traditions and justify history for the cultural preservation of Karangbesuki Temple. Impressive research findings show that the socio- cultural literacy of youth in the Karangbesuki area has made youth willing to carry out cultural preservation at Karangbesuki Temple. Youth also do not hesitate to make the history of Karangbesuki Temple their identity or attribute. Karangbesuki youth can be said to have been quite good at socio-cultural literacy which implements the culture preservation of Karangbesuki Temple. Youth have high knowledge about how they can play a role and act as successors to local culture. One proof of the results of this knowledge is the creation of a promotional video for the temple and the participation of youth in cultural activities and discussions. PPBI, as a facilitator of cultural knowledge of Karangbesuki Temple, also works with youth to be better at preserving the culture of the Karangbesuki Temple site.

This research aims to explore the role of spiritual leaders in shaping and strengthening socio-cultural communication networks in the Buddhayana community. The research focus involves analyzing the active role of spiritual leaders in facilitating interaction, maintaining cultural values, and forging interpersonal connections among Buddhists. This research method uses a case study with a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews with spiritual leaders, community members, and participatory observations at religious activities. The results showed that spiritual leaders have a crucial role in shaping and maintaining socio-cultural communication networks. Not only acts as a spiritual leader but also as a facilitator of communication between individuals in the community. Spiritual leaders also play a role in transmitting Buddhayana values, promoting collaboration, and building solidarity among community members. The study also identified factors that influence the effectiveness of the role of spiritual leaders in the context of socio-cultural communication, including active involvement in daily activities, adaptability to technological developments, and the ability to understand community needs. These findings have important implications in understanding communication dynamics in the context of Buddhayana and may contribute to practical thinking to support spiritual leaders and Buddhayana communities in strengthening their socio-cultural communication networks. This research can serve as a foundation for the development of more effective strategies to maintain the sustainability of communication and cultural values within the Buddhayana community and may be applicable to other religious and cultural contexts.

A parallel mixed-methods study on 20 patient–caregiver dyads in an Asian population was conducted to explore the differential perceptions and barriers to ACP in dementia. We recruited English-speaking patients with mild dementia and their caregivers. A trained ACP facilitator conducted ACP counseling. Patient–caregiver dyads completed pre–post surveys and participated in post-counseling qualitative interviews. We used mixed-methods analysis to corroborate the quantitative and qualitative data. Differential perceptions of ACP were reported among dyads, with caregivers less inclined for further ACP discussions. Post-ACP counseling, caregivers were significantly more likely to acknowledge barriers to ACP discussions than patients (57.9% versus 10.5%, p = 0.005). Thematic analysis of the interview transcripts revealed four themes around barriers to ACP: patient-related factors (transference of decision making, poor cognition and lack of understanding, and dis-inclination to plan for the future), caregiver-related factors (perceived negative impact on the patient, caregiver discomfort, and confidence in congruent decision making), socio-cultural factors (taboos, superstitions, and religious beliefs), and the inappropriate timing of discussions. In a collectivist Asian culture, socio-cultural factors pose important barriers, and a family-centric approach to initiation of ACP may be the first step towards engagement in the ACP process. For ACP in dementia to be effective for patients and caregivers, these discussions should be culturally tailored and address patient, caregiver, socio-cultural, and timing barriers.

<p><em>Mudarabah is the core of the Islamic cooperation system, which is expected to improve people's welfare. Its practice in Islamic Financial Institutions (IFI) has not realized that goal. One reason is forcing this system to become a profit-oriented formal financial institution. This paper aims to reveal the problems of the institutionalization of mudarabah and attempt to reposition it from IFI to a cooperation system of Islamic socio-economic so that the lofty goals of this system can be realized. This research uses literature and field studies. Data mining techniques use documentation, interviews, and participant observation. The research findings show that four aspects are applied in worksheets that conflict with the essential characteristics of mudarabah, namely, capital and determination of profit sharing, business management, determination of business period, and guarantees. Efforts to reposition mudarabah into the cooperation system of Islamic socio-economic are carried out by removing mudarabah from the IFI and allowing it to become a cultural system that facilitates community needs in economic interaction or to become a cooperation system within the Baitul Mal which positions the Baitul Mal as nothing more than a facilitator that brings together sahibul mal and mudarib.</em></p>

This study aims to analyze the implications of linguistic mediation processes and educational proactivity in schools for the socio-educational adaptation of immigrant students. The study is based on empirical research and the perspectives of the main actors: the immigrant students themselves. To this end, a non-experimental and descriptive quantitative methodology was used. The sample consisted of 100 students of foreign origin enrolled in an Italian school located in a typical socio-cultural environment. The results show significant differences in linguistic mediation and socio-educational variables and differences in expectations of progress and social adaptation of students born outside Italy vis-a-vis students who, although born in Italy, are still considered foreigners. It will also analyze teaching proactivity as a communication facilitator for first-generation immigrant pupils born outside Italy. In conclusion, it is noted that, to favor multicultural environments where all students, regardless of their origin, feel accepted, integrated, and welcomed, it is necessary to utilize all available resources to promote improvements in teaching-learning processes and strengthen social relations.

Introduction. The relevance of considering the concept of facilitation in additional professional pedagogical education is due to the ongoing socio-cultural transformations in the world, and in society. The global challenges of the time dictate many paradigms and approaches to continuously improve the professional skills of teachers. These processes, in turn, entail changes in building the personality-oriented effective interaction of teachers on the advanced training courses. The study aims to examine the issues of awareness (reflection) by the teacher of their activity through the facilitating position of the teacher in the organization of training in additional professional education and productive interaction based on the principles of cooperation. Methods. The paper deals with the theoretical aspect that reveals the features of the phenomenon of facilitation, the qualities and skills inherent in the facilitator. The study relies on the methods of questioning, conversations, and the method of questions to one’s self (C. Rogers). Research results. The theoretical material on facilitation has been analyzed, a working definition of the “facilitation” concept has been given, the specific features of the facilitation as an effective means of interaction between teachers in the learning process have been identified. Conclusions. The introduction of facilitation in the process of training teachers helps to improve their professional skills, rethink their role in a constantly changing environment and build their interaction following the principles of cooperation (trust, empathy, mutual understanding and acceptance of others).

Access to information and communication technology (ICT) is becoming an increasingly important factor for education and training in the South Pacific region. While many studies have examined the attitudes and understanding of educators towards using ICT in their profession and for their professional development, studies that specifically deal with these matters in the socio-economic and cultural context of the South Pacific island states are rare. This study aims to address the gap in the literature by examining the professional development of blended learning facilitators working in remote and isolated communities of the Cook Islands. The research outcomes of this study are based on the analysis of in-depth, semi-structured interviews, and the theoretical foundation of this project is grounded in the social and situated theory of learning. The central finding of the study suggests that participation in online communities of practice offers ongoing opportunities for learning and development, and reduces the feeling of isolation associated with the geographical conditions of the South Pacific region.

This article explores the different ways in which a dance exergame can be used to teach dance in upper secondary school physical education. Particular attention is paid to the learning processes that students are involved in when the dance game is used as a teaching resource. A socio-cultural perspective on learning constitutes the analytical framework. The study demonstrates three different uses: instructor, facilitator and inspirer. In relation to these uses the students are involved in the following learning processes: learning by imitating, repeating, communicating, negotiating, instructing, modelling and using metaphors. It is argued that dance exergames can be used pedagogically to teach dance because they focus on the moves and steps and allow the teacher to focus on observing, supporting, assigning tasks and providing feedback.

This paper aims to study the role of local government in realizing sustainable marine tourism. Pemuteran Village is one of the best practices of sustainable marine tourism in the developing world. Three types of government roles were studied, namely: regulator, facilitator, and of executor.. These roles were positioned as exogenous latent variables in a causal relationship with sustainable marine tourism in the village. Sustainability is measured through reflective constructs, i.e. economic benefit, socio-cultural benefit, and environmental benefit felt by the local community of Pemuteran Village. The data were collected from 60 respondents, consisting of community leaders, non-governmental organizations, and tourism industry stakeholders in Pemuteran Village. Then, questionnaires were analyzed by structural equation modelling—partial least square (path modelling). The results show that the government roles did not have a significant effect on marine tourism sustainability. However, the role of local government and the existence of marine tourism sustainability were reflected significantly in its three constructs where the most represented construct in this relationship respectively are the role of facilitator and the environmental benefit. The most important finding in this research is that the role of local government was not only measured by regulator and facilitator roles, as in previous research, but includes analysis of the executor role. which proved significant in structural model evaluationone of the best practices of sustainable marine tourism — – partial least square (path modelling). The results show that the government roles did not have aprove significantly aeffect on marine tourism sustainability. However, the role of local government and the existence of marine tourism sustainability were reflected significantly in its three constructs where the most represented construct in this relationship respectively are the role of facilitator and the environmental benefit. L’objectif de mes travaux consiste à étudier en profondeur l’itinéraire professionnel d’animateurs socioculturels. Ma thèse conduit à interroger la dynamique des acteurs et des organisations. Elle positionne les « crises » (Abbott, 2009 ; Morin, 1976 ; Pain, 2011) comme le lieu et le moment où les choses sont en mouvement. L’enquête est inscrite dans la région Toulousaine. Ce territoire est teinté par de nombreux soubresauts touchant à une histoire ancienne et globale, par des conflits qui ont traversé la société française tout au long du XXe siècle. Il est aussi marqué par des configurations plus récentes et locales : depuis les années 2000, sur fond de mise en concurrence et de course à la technicité, les organisations du secteur ont été régulièrement remodelées. Mon approche, qualifiée d’écologique, s’inspire de la sociologie de l’école de Chicago (Abbott, 1988 ; Becker et al., 2016; Hughes, 1958 ; Thomas, 1928, 1938). Elle est qualitative, inductive et à visée compréhensive. Elle mobilise des travaux éclectiques dans une démarche relevant de la « Grounded Theory » (Glaser & Strauss, 1967), de l’ethnographie (Bordes, 2015 ; Delas & Milly, 2015 ; Olivier De Sardan & Mouchenik, 2018 ; Olivier de Sardan, 1995), ou de courants sociologiques liés à la démarche autobiographique (Bertaux, 1976; Demazière, 2007; Demazière&Dubar, 2005). My thesis leads to questioning the dynamics of actors and organizations. It positions “crises” (Abbott, 2009 ; Morin, 1976 ; Pain, 2011) as the place and moment where things are in motion. The investigation is carried out in the Toulouse region. This territory is colored by numerous upheavals affecting an ancient and global history, by conflicts which crossed French society throughout the 20th century. It is also marked by more recent and local configurations. Since the 2000s, against a backdrop of competition and the race for technicality, organizations in the sector have been regularly remodeled. My approach, described as ecological, is inspired by the sociology of the Chicago school (Abbott, 1988 ; Becker et al., 2016 ; Hughes, 1958 ; Thomas, 1928, 1938). It is qualitative, inductive and with a comprehensive aim. It mobilizes eclectic works in an approach based on “Grounded theory” (Glaser & Strauss, 1967), ethnography (Bordes, 2015 ; Delas & Milly, 2015 ; Olivier De Sardan & Mouchenik, 2018 ; Olivier de Sardan, 1995), or sociological currents linked to the autobiographical approach (Bertaux, 1976 ; Demazière, 2007 ; Demazière&Dubar, 2005). The data collection was carried out between 2018 and 2024. It consisted of documenting the paths and trajectories of 12 individuals. Through autobiographical interviews, distanced and floating observation, the data takes the form of stories. The investigation leads to a medium-range theory of the crisis movement

Despite the plethora of pro-environmental behaviour studies, a review of literature revealed a dearth of studies on pro-environmental behaviour in urban cities in Asia. Given the escalating rate of economic growth in Asian cities, environmental needs have taken a backseat prompting an urgent need to understand better how pro-environmental behaviour can be facilitated among Asian city dwellers. Secondly, there is a lack of studies exploring lay public’s perceptions of existing pro-environmental campaigns. Thirdly, there is an over-reliance on quantitative research methods in pro-environmental behaviour studies. Based on these gaps, the purpose for this research was to; firstly, explore in-depth the barriers and facilitators of pro-environmental behaviour in Singapore, an urban city in Asia. Secondly, this research aimed to understand directly from the lay public on their perceptions of pro-environmental campaigns. Thirty-two semi-structured interviews were conducted with Singaporeans aged 18 years and above. The primary findings for this study were; family lays the foundation for pro-environmental behaviour to occur, environmental concern facilitates pro-environmental behaviour and infrastructure systems and work centric culture inhibit pro-environmental behaviour. In relation to pro-environmental campaign perceptions, participants were mostly found to be not in favour of pro-environmental campaigns with no personal impact on their behaviours.Thesis (PhD Doctorate)

This thesis offers an assessment design for collaborative learning, utilisation of blended learning support through current communication technologies and highlights the crucial role of the tutor. The thesis designed and tested a theoretical framework which encompassed an active learning environment and resulted in the development of the shamrock conceptual framework. To test the theoretical framework, clarify the role of the tutor and the impact on the learner experience two studies were undertaken using pedagogical models that combined the concepts of learner-centric, sociocultural and dialogic perspectives on collaborative learning and technology in meeting the needs of learners in the 21st Century. In the first study, the role of the tutor was found to be crucial in setting, implementing and guiding learners using the assessment design as part of a social constructivist pedagogical practice. The pedagogical approach adopted was to blend face-to-face and Wiki learning experiences and was found to promote learner ownership, engagement and the fostering of a learning community. The second study validated the first and provided additional asynchronous technology experiences in addition to the Wiki blend in the assessment design. Study 2 examined the role of the tutor and the learner whilst using current technologies comprising podcasts and video and a Wiki in the collaborative experience. Findings showed that the Wiki supported community and collaborative aspects of a sociocultural practice whilst learners were engaged in authentic learning activities and led to a well supported learning environment. The importance of technology design and use to accommodate collaborative and community aspects was found to be an essential component. It was found that technology is not simply an add-on but rather needs to be planned and considered purposefully by both tutors and learners when used in a blend to supplement learning on campus as part of an assessment design in higher education. This study has shown that, for this to happen, academics need to be provided with the appropriate support, knowledge and skills required in developing a blended learning experience using a Wiki supplemented by class contact on campus as part of an assessment design.

This thesis explores the Predicament of the Learner in an age during which an emergent Participatory Culture supported by networked computers is converging or colliding with a top-down Culture Industry model of education associated with centralised control and traditional learning media. Two case studies explore attempts to use advanced E-learning tools, the Learning Activity Management System (LAMS) and Revolution (a multiplayer role-playing game) to mediate learning activities in the digital classroom. Both reveal the shifting locus of agency for managing and regulating learning and identify a need to understand how learners are creatively appropriating a range of digital media to advance self-directed learning agendas. The main study, The Agency of the Learner in the Networked University, develops these insights through a cognitive anthropology, informed by post-Vygotskian theory, focussed on the digitally mediated practices of 16 post-graduate students who enjoyed unrestricted access to the Internet from their study rooms. The findings chapters explore i) learners designing personalised learning environments to support advanced knowledge work; ii) learners creatively appropriating web-based digital tools and resources for course related study and self education; iii) learners cultivating, nurturing and mobilising globally distributed funds of living knowledge; iv) learners breaking away from lifeworld communities and learning with others in online affinity spaces; and v) learners seeking out opportunities to bootstrap themselves towards the actualisation of a projective identity through serious play in virtually figured worlds. In each case, an attempt is made to innovate conceptual tools that can help us to identify and conceptualise the New Media Literacies (conceived of as expert-like digitally mediated practices) required to exploit the full potential of new media as a resource for course related study, independent learning and self-education.

This edited volume provides a multifaceted investigation of the dynamic interrelations between visual arts and urbanization in contemporary Mainland China with a focus on unseen representations and urban interventions brought about by the transformations of the urban space and the various problems associated with it. Through a wide range of illuminating case studies, the authors demonstrate how innovative artistic and creative practices initiated by various stakeholders not only raise critical awareness on socio-political issues of Chinese urbanization but also actively reshape the urban living spaces. The formation of new collaborations, agencies, aesthetics and cultural production sites facilitate diverse forms of cultural activism as they challenge the dominant ways of interpreting social changes and encourage civic participation in the production of alternative meanings in and of the city. Significance StatementA Multi-Use Platform can integrate different maritime activities into a single sea area. We propose an analytical framework to investigate the socio-ecological benefits and impacts of potential Multi-Use Platforms designs in the Mediterranean and North Sea. The framework uses a marine ecosystem services matrix that has the aim to facilitate knowledge sharing on the ecosystem goods and services a Multi-Use Platform can potentially support and interact with. The results highlight that Multi-Use Platforms provide multiple opportunities for energy generation, food provisioning (e.g. recreational fishing, extractive aquaculture) and cultural services (e.g. coastal recreation, diving, research and monitoring). Further research suggests application of quantitative socio-ecological analysis techniques to measure potential synergies and trade-offs among the multiple activities of the platform.

AbstractIntense urbanization process in Brazil and Latin America has increasingly limited young children, since birth, to access outdoor spaces, especially green areas. Moreover, as conceptions of babies in domestic care support confinement practices, apprehending infants’ constitutive specificities as being intertwined with broader socio-cultural contexts requires further investigation. Notwithstanding the challenges, Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) institutions can be promising places to provide babies with daily contacts and appropriation of external areas amid an expanded collective experience. This chapter tackles the process of insertion and appropriation of outdoor spaces for infants and toddlers. We bring a case study from a Brazilian daycare centre with planned multiple outdoor environments, diversified spatial arrangements and natural elements. The empirical material, referring to the transition year of a group of under-twos, includes monthly recordings of everyday routine, interviews, field notes, institutional documents. We describe and analyze various outdoor spaces and socio-spatial practices of the daycare centre based on the cultural-historical perspective of the Network of Meanings. In the first semester, environments organized in semi-open areas connected to closed spaces were more frequently used. Whereas mainly in the second semester, given walking onset and greater motor resourcefulness, the going and appropriation of green areas unfolded as a gradual process not short of struggles. Substantial planning, projects and educational situations put forward by multiple social actors within a multidisciplinary approach modulated alternation of spaces and facilitated exchanges with peers, older children and adults – including family members.

AbstractWith stories being fundamental to human nature, digital storytelling is the ideal space to incorporate the most diverse media in support of the stories. Under the umbrella of the EU funded project BSB/831/HERiPRENEURSHIP “Establishing long-lasting partnerships to upgrade heritage-based offers and create new investment opportunities in tourism and the cultural and creative industries”, a new digital storytelling pattern has been introduced for the UNESCO-listed archaeological site of Philippi, Greece. The main aim is to elicit cognitive-emotional experiences at places of cultural significance by effectively communicating cultural values to non-captive audiences. A multimedia eBook, Birthplace of the Empire, strives to weave a cohesive digital cultural heritage narrative for non-captive audiences focusing on the cognitive-emotional aspect and by exploiting the powers of the Cultural and Creative Industries to support interactivity with e-readers and onsite visitors. We argue that (a) by relying on the socio-historical content to deliver the sense of the place, (b) by creating the unexpected art momentum in the digital form, and (c) by managing cognitive loads to facilitate perception and understanding, a new digital artwork is created, where the audience is inspired to engage in critical thinking and replace gazing with participatory practices in the cultural space. The provision of novelty, variation, surprise, and exploration ensures allows a multicultural and multigenerational audience to discover site values and assuming different hero roles within the realm of Graeco-Roman and Christian Philippi.

It was not only literary exchange and travel writing that flourished between Germany and Scandinavia around 1900. The theatre sector was also influenced by increasing artistic mobility that facilitated the transfer of ideas on modern theatre across Europe. This chapter examines selected guest performances and directorships of the German theatre director Max Reinhardt and the actor Alexander Moissi in Stockholm between 1915 and 1921. Expanding the traditional idea of travel writing, the artists used guest performances as a means of allowing ideas to travel to a new national context. Using cultural transfer and mobility theories, the aim of this contribution is to explore how Reinhardt’s and Moissi’s mobile acts brought cultural and aesthetic ideas to Sweden and which factors – social, political, aesthetic as well as infrastructural – influenced the transfer process. This is done with a content analysis of newspaper articles as primary sources. With the help of these sources, I will illustrate that Reinhardt’s and Moissi’s visits to Sweden were only successful because of a well-developed German-Scandinavian network that had been built beforehand. It is argued that the artistic ideas that they transferred to Sweden were mainly affected by socio-cultural and infrastructural developments, while political ideologies were of secondary importance.

Ethno is JM International’s program for folk, world and traditional music. Founded in 1990, it is aimed at young musicians (up to age 30) with a mission to revive and keep alive global cultural heritage. Originating in Sweden, but now present in over 40 countries, Ethno engages young people through a series of annual international music gatherings as well as workshops, concerts and tours, working together with schools, conservatories and other groups of youth to promote peace, tolerance and understanding (https://ethno.world/about/). In this chapter, I consider the research questions to what extent should an intercultural music programme also focus on developing intercultural understanding and competency? Is it enough for participants to have an intercultural musical experience without allowing time for critical reflection to develop intercultural competencies? Further to this I consider how the nonformal approach of Ethno may support intercultural understanding and how this contrasts with intercultural programmes in formal HEI institutions. Research findings are drawn from a four-year international research project exploring the hypothesis that Ethno provides transformational socio-cultural and musical significances for participants (www.ethnoresearch.org ). Findings are based on ethnographic fieldwork at Ethno events and interviews with over 250 participants, organisers and ‘artistic mentors’ (on-site musical leaders). The research was conducted by The International Centre for Community music (ICCM) in collaboration with JM International. I also draw upon my HEI teaching with a particular focus on ‘Ethno inspired’ workshops we ran as a means of contrasting the experience of intercultural learning in a formal institution to demonstrate how this research has broadened sociological and musical understandings of other cultures for my university students. Research findings suggest that those attending Ethno gatherings are ready to have intercultural dialogues, they are curious and open toward people that are different. Our research also highlights the importance participants place on being with ‘like-minded people’. The chapter ultimately considers whether there is value in facilitated time for critical reflection during intercultural music gatherings in order to develop intercultural competencies.

This chapter draws from actual accredited graduate programs. It is essentially a reflection piece drawn from actual experience of successful teaching and blended action learning practices and principles that utilized online discussion forums. The classes were in Malaysia, the USA, and South Africa. The experience of teaching and learning involving metacognition and active online discussion internationally is described in terms of the cognitive literacy value chain developed by the author. Active discussion was seen as part and parcel of the process to nudge insights, critical thinking, and other expressions of higher order thinking that also facilitated peer bonding in very short, six-week semesters. The critical role of fluid intelligence in higher order thinking in a globalized knowledge economy is discussed in terms of the development of wisdom through the experience of transcending conventional thinking while sustaining refined thought processes and cultural values through metacognition. Sample comments and reflection journals are presented.

The aim of this chapter is to explore the use of Cross –Border Communities of Practice (CCoP) as way for managing knowledge in a global socio-economic environment, mainly referring to the rising economies. In doing so, some important issues related to cross-border knowledge transfer have been investigated, taking into account the impact that cultural diversities have on individuals' propensity to cooperate, as well as on their attitude to transfer and to share knowledge. The Authors explain the role that Global Managers have as “cultural bridges” in multicultural teams, thus enabling the last ones' transformation into a CCoP. With reference to both the opportunities and challenges that characterize the rising economies, CCoP arises as the best suitable way to transfer knowledge at international level, when firms from developed countries encounter firms from emerging countries.

In recent years, scholars have noted that there are gender-specific vulnerabilities and risks faced by women throughout their livelihood trajectory, making them more susceptible to trafficking. A number of axioms have emerged that provide a generally accepted framework that women and girls are more disadvantaged because of their gender and social class. Due to gender discrimination and the undervaluation of low-skilled occupations, women are commonly concentrated in low-skilled and lowly paid jobs such as domestic work that are unregulated and informal with little or no legal protection. These conditions make women particularly vulnerable to gendered-specific exploitation, forced labor, extortion, debt bondage, and violence. This study examines the socio-religious and cultural discourse surrounding gender and human trafficking in Nigeria. The study reveals that even when human trafficking is not a new phenomenon, it has acquired a new dimension in the context of globalization and has been facilitated by increased mobility and the development of the internet and new technologies.

Ṣaworoidẹ is a Nigerian film about the Yorùbá people in Nigeria. It accentuates the socio-cultural and political activities and nuances in Jogbo, representational of the “old Nigeria.” Ṣaworoidẹ itself is a “talking drum” laced with brass bells along its beatable surface. The “talking drum” is an indigenous musical instrument in West Africa, whose functionalities are those of communication and entertainment. But enshrined in this unique instrument are political and socio-cultural characteristics as represented in Ṣaworoidẹ. This chapter identifies those characteristics and their prominence in present-day Nigeria, particularly among the Yorùbá people. The authors unravel the notable and multifaceted use of the “talking drum” for political, religious, traditional, and mass mobilization activities. They suggest that cultural heritage policies of Nigeria, including curricula that facilitate indigenous knowledge, should provide support for this rich drumming tradition, especially in educational institutions.

Abstract. Intermediate spaces in Moroccan vernacular architecture are important in addressing cultural, functional, and climatic challenges, acting as transitional zones between public and private spheres. These spaces, which include terraces, courtyards, patios, and thresholds, not only facilitate social and economic interactions within local communities but also play a crucial role in regulating the thermal comfort of dwellings. This study, focusing on specific cases in Sebt el Gardan in the Taroudant region, highlights the diversity and functionality of these intermediate spaces. It demonstrates how they contribute to both thermal regulation and the facilitation of social interactions while emphasizing the importance of local materials such as rammed earth and mud in their construction. Traditional techniques showcase how vernacular architecture meets contemporary needs while preserving its cultural identity. The central hypothesis of this research is that the climate and communal ways of life largely influence the typology of intermediate spaces in Moroccan vernacular architecture. Through a documentary approach and case studies, the study aims to deepen the understanding of spatial and social dynamics within communities, while underscoring the need to preserve this often underestimated cultural heritage. Thus, intermediate spaces are not merely architectural elements but dynamic vectors of Moroccan cultural heritage, capable of adapting to socio-economic and historical changes, reinforcing their relevance in the discourse on sustainable development and cultural heritage conservation.

"In Haiti, the success rate in elementary school remains very low and the majority of teachers do not have sufficient knowledge of effective pedagogical approaches to writing which leads to demotivation and a low sense of effectiveness as scriptwriters among students. We chose slam as a genre of contemporary and urban poetry (Vorger, 2011) and the workshop device to work on slam poetic writing (Troia, Lin, Cohen and Monroe, 2011), ideal to improve students' writing skills, motivation and sense of effectiveness. The research took place in two primary schools in Port-au-Prince against the backdrop of a socio-political crisis. Twelve facilitators (10 women and 2 men), trained in advance, facilitated the workshops in 13 sessions of 90 minutes each. A total of 61 students aged 12-13 participated in the after-school writing workshops (26 boys and 38 girls). Students completed a questionnaire on their motivation and sense of writing skills before and after the program. A corpus of 41 texts of claimed poetry written by students is the subject of a thematic and linguistic analysis. The results indicate that students benefit from their writing and oral expression skills, self-confidence and empowerment, and that their texts demonstrate a high degree of linguistic creativity and thematic richness. The positive results are consistent with those obtained in other socio-cultural contexts (Patmanathan, 2014) regarding the impact of the writing workshops. They contribute to new knowledge about slam poetry as an appropriate literary genre for young people, even at the end of primary school."

This paper reports on the methodologies used and the findings of the research done by the Enterprise Social Learning Architecture (ESLA) Task into learning processes occurring in two diverse environments within the Australian Defence Organisation, tactical and strategic. The research focused on identifying factors that enable and facilitate social learning and these factors are discussed in view of the preliminary architecture proposed by the research team and in view of the socio-technical environment within which people work and learn. The paper concludes by suggesting that the development of information systems requires a multidisciplinary approach and needs an understanding of the cultural issues prevalent in work environments.

The analysis reveals how hydraulic systems have shaped urban development, influencing spatial organization, socio-economic structures, and cultural practices. The research highlights the symbiotic relationship between water management and urban planning, demonstrating a diachronic narrative of adaptation and resilience. The exploration of transformations in water management practices over the centuries illustrates how hydrological considerations have facilitated or hindered urban morphological evolution. The importance of hydrography as a determining factor in the development of Fez is emphasized, offering perspectives on the adaptability of urban spaces in the face of environmental and sociopolitical changes.

The topic of food waste management has become a global discussion in recent years, but it is still not widely addressed in Greek and Armenian societies. This can be attributed to the common cultural and historical backgrounds of these countries. This study explores waste management practices in both countries, with a specific focus on their respective national frameworks and initiatives. The study critically discusses Greece's National Waste Prevention Programme (NWPP) and extrapolates key policies and strategies pertinent to the Armenian context. Moreover, the current geopolitical changes and their potential influence on the food waste management system of Armenia have been discussed. Cultural and historical backgrounds necessitate a comparative examination between these two nations' policies. Employing a comprehensive document analysis using a deductive, concept-driven approach facilitated by docAnalyzer.ai, this study identifies substantial deficiencies within existing policy documents. It underscores the need for enhanced education, increased investments, and strengthened collaborative efforts as significant factors crucial for effecting systemic transformation. Addressing these gaps through informed policy interventions can enable both governments to implement successful models of food waste management and foster circular economies adjusted with respective socio-economic landscapes.

It may be said that the video games are a topical form of socio-cultural manifestation, because they make available to its public the means necessary for the inter-cultural and international communication (efficient communication channels and favorable social context), which then facilitate the appearance of new communities. These elements are worthy of being considered by the social sciences and also by the communication sciences, because communities of this kind are more numerous and more complex. They evolve along with the Internet as well as other types of modern media depending on the technological progress. Video games (the games developed for desktop systems and portable devices such as laptops, tablets and smartphones) have become a significant industry for the XXIst century due to the fact that in time they have constantly evolved and have managed to impose in the present time dominant media cultures. Along with their appearance numerous questions have surfaced regarding the impact of games on society, on the social environment, and also questions regarding the interactive processes and active audiences. Same as all the other new media, the video games, in their evolution, have borrowed elements and have adapted to the socio-cultural variety. The gaming industry was mainly shaped around the techno culture, our contemporary society being saturated by technology . Just like all the other histories, the video games history has been challenged in its turn by the specialists in the field. Seen in the most general way, the history is created and transmitted by people, who are being subjective most of the times. Policy documents in India, most notably National Education Policy 2020, emphasize that the higher education sector may aim for achieving three Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly tenth (reduced inequalities), fifth (gender equality), and fourth (quality education). But this is not an easy task in a country like India, having socio-cultural, economic, and geographical diversities. Fortunately, the higher education sector can use emerging technologies to promote equity, inclusion, and quality in higher education. And policy documents are vital to set the directions and facilitate the adoption and use of technologies in higher education. Accordingly, this research identifies and analyses the key policy documents from the government of India and its organizations discussing technologies for higher education. This research further identifies gaps in policy documents while recommending technologies for ensuring equity, inclusion, and quality in higher education. Based on the analysis, the study also provides a few suggestions for policymakers.

Pipeline operators, contractors and governments face important challenges when planning, designing, constructing and operating pipelines which connect the hydrocarbon reserves in the Amazonian basin with population and shipping centers on the Pacific coast. These pipelines cross portions of the Amazonian rainforest, the mountain rainforest along the eastern flank of the Andes, the Andean plateau, and the rural and urban low lying desert areas along the Pacific coast. The need for these pipelines will continue and offers a tremendous opportunity to promote sustainable economic development. However, there are several challenges in safeguarding the integrity of the pipeline, environment, local population, and socio-economic fabric of the region. Failure to properly address these risks could have significant financial, engineering, environmental and social, or reputational consequences for operators, contractors, financiers and governments. In this context, companies need to understand the specific challenges present and implement an encompassing project and risk management strategy that entails leadership, team work, effective communication and collaboration in a manner that proactively meets anticipated needs and responds to evolving conditions. During design and construction management, engineers and scientists are challenged by geology, topography, limited or no field data, limited access to the right-of-way (RoW), and socio-environmental aspects. Major training efforts are needed for the construction workforce, in a manner applicable to educational and cultural characteristics. Special road safety measures are required and in many instances the right-of-way will be the only means of transporting construction material. Other special logistical challenges are presented by the rich cultural history of the Andes. During operation, special consideration needs to be given to external natural hazards like landslides, soil creep, seismicity, and river scour. Management needs to maintain good communication with all parties affected by the project and proactively promote broad socio-economic development in the project area. The recognition of these specific challenges and upfront investment will facilitate mutually beneficial project advancement and be of particular benefit in instances of anticipatable but uncontrollable events. This paper describes several of these challenges and provides guidance on how to minimize project specific risks and adverse effects to society and environment.

In the last decade, we are witnessing a crisis of the school, in which the philosophy of education follows or is influenced by the current structure of the neo-liberal market, imposing in the education system the same two distinct categories: market owners and consumers (clients). Simultaneously, artists, philosophers and activists are beginning to work in social practice and build alternatives to the neo-liberal educational system. Schools or temporary experiments run by artists move social practice outside the school institution, the theater or the gallery, of the institutions in general, trying to put pressure on the current educational system, which would be given social-critical meanings and which would facilitate thus, access to art and education for a wider audience, through its reconfiguration as a dynamic factor within the community.
