Повний текст джерелаThere are many studies about how the addition of lime and Rice Husk Ash (RHA) gives the soil a better mechanical behavior, particularly on clayey soils, where usually fine particles reach more than 75%. However, the soils with a small presence of fine particles (59-60%) do not have much research. This investigation evaluates the influence that RHA has on this kind of soil previously stabilized with 3% of lime. After the initial mix of soil-lime, the CBR increased 11.2 times its initial value; within the addition of the ash, the CBR maxed out its value increasing just 1.56%. When 28% of RHA was added, a decay in the value of CBR was noticed. Otherwise, soil workability improved and following the AASHTO standards, the specimens with more ash resulted in a more granular material, with a group index value of 0. The greatest CBR record was obtained when the stabilized soil was added a 16% RHA, reaching a 51.3% CBR, 1.58g/cm3 of MDD and 16.5% of OMC. The CBR of the soil stabilized with lime and the addition of RHA, does not shows substantial improvement, and beyond that the workability seems better, the addition of lime by itself should be enough for an adequate performance for silica-rich clayey soils.

Повний текст джерелаThe main objective of this study was to correlate microstructure and magnetic properties of high-energy permanent magnets of the Sm(CoFeCuZr)z type for applications at temperatures above 300°C. The possibility that the matrix constituents of the microstructure of high temperature magnets are different from the matrix constituents of the conventional magnets is investigated with three sets of samples: i) Two magnets for commercial applications at room temperature, one produced by Electron Energy and the other by Vacuumschmelze. ii) A Sm(CoFeCuZr)z as-cast alloy synthesized by Johnson Matthey (JM) for permanent magnets production was used to study the effect of heat treatment steps as follows: (a) solutionizing at 1175°C for 4h, b) followed by quenching in water, (c) reheating at 820°C for 7h, d) followed by slow cooling down at 1°C/min to 400°C, and (e) heat treatment at 400°C for different durations and their effects on its magnetic properties and its micro and nanostructure. iii) Two series of Sm(CobalFe0.15CuxZr0.023)7 and Sm(CobalFe0.15CuxZr0.023)8.5 alloys with x=0.058, 0.088, 0.108 were prepared by arc melting technique, in order to study the effect of Copper and Samarium contents on its microstructure and magnetic properties. The characterization in magnetic fields up to 9T allowed to determine the maximum polarization and the intrinsic coercivity of the samples. The characterization in magnetic field up 2T allowed to determine the coercive field and remanence of the samples at temperatures between 200°C and 500°C. Three alloys resulted in coercive field Hci > 398kA/m (Hci > 5kOe) at 450°C, which according to the literature, can be used in applications at elevated temperatures. A detailed characterization of the microstructure and chemical composition was performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with EDAX chemical analysis of virtually all samples. The JM samples and three of the twelve alloys produced in the electric arc furnace showed the light and dark microconstituents, here identified as two 2:17 rombohedral phases with low and VIII high Sm. In a pseudo-ternary phase diagram it was possible to define the two phase field of 2:17R with low and high Sm. No correlation could be found with the magnetic properties of the samples. It was observed that by increasing the Sm content in the alloy the maximum induction Jmax decreases. The maximum induction Jmax also decreases with increasing Cu content in the alloy, but to a lesser extent. It was possible to observe the nanocrystalline microstructure as well as the presence and formation of nanocrystalline cells with scanning electron microscopy with field emission source SEM-FEG. Those characteristics are usually only observed by transmission electron microscopy. It was found that the nanocrystalline cells are observable with SEM-FEG on samples whose coercivity is above 159 kA/m (2kOe). It was possible to apply the Stoner-Wohlfarth model modified by Callen Liu and Cullen in the hysteresis loop to determine the magnetocrystalline anisotropy field, the saturation magnetization and the mean field interaction 1/d. The X-ray diffraction coupled with a Rietveld refinement were used to determine the phases formed at high temperatures after the solutinizing heat treatment at 1175°C/4h. It was found that there are two kinds of 2:17 rhombohedral phases formation. One is rich in copper and the other rich in iron.

Повний текст джерелаWe have developed a method of calculating the Gruneisen parameter, γ ≡ ∂linJ/∂lnν (J - exchange splitting; ν - molar volume), for energy splittings that are due to atoms exchanging lattice sites in fermionic systems for which the exchange splittings are small compared with the lattice kinetic and potential energies. The method involves making two separate path integral Monte Carlo calculations, one for a path (sequence of particle positions in time) that doesn't involve atoms exchanging lattice sites, and one for a path in which the atoms do exchange lattice sites. The difference between a quantity calculated for the two systems is related to the Gruneisen parameter.
The central results of this thesis are firstly, that there is no significant variation of the Gruneisen parameters for two, three and four particle exchange (γ₂, γ₃ and γ₄, respectively) for solid ³He, in going from 24 cm³/mole, which is near melting, to 22 cm³/mole. This result was extended to 20 cm³/mole for γ₂. Since no significant variation was observed, the values calculated for different molar volumes were combined to give best estimates for the Gruneisen constants, γ₂ = 15.9 ± .8, γ₃ = 16.4 ± 1.4 and γ₄ = 13.8 ± 1.5. The second result is that the magnitudes of the Gruneisen parameters are very similar for the three types of exchange despite their significantly different geometry. Some very limited runs were done for a system of hard spheres. It is interesting that for the hard sphere diameter chosen, the Gruneisen parameters are of the same order as for solid ³He, γ₂ = 21.7 ± .8, γ₃ = 16.8 ± 2.1 and γ₄ = 19.3 ± 1.9 for the small test systems checked. The final result relates to ³He deposited on a graphite surface. The Gruneisen parameter for three particle exchange for a two-dimensional system with a triangular mesh is found to be consistent with γ₃ = 50 ± 5 for a range of nearest-neighbor, lattice spacings from 3.2 Å to 3.6 Å. This is inconsistent with experiment, indicating that three particle exchange confined to two dimensions does not account for the ferromagnetic properties of this system, as was claimed previously.

We study the optical properties of Re3Ga5O12 (Re = Nd, Sm, Eu, and Dy) bulk and Ba(Mg1/3Ta2/3)O3 films with different preparation conditions. And we discuss the correlation between their infrared characteristics and microwave properties. First, we obtain the following results. (i) Re3Ga5O12 bulk has fourteen infrared phonons and we calcaulate the dielectric constant and Q×f factor which are contributed by ionic lattice. (ii) The internal mode phonons of the GaO4 tetrahedron within 200 cm-1 ~ 800 cm-1 decide the most part of dielectric properties. With the Lanthanide contraction effect, the phonons exhibit blue shift for their vibration frequency. The linewidths of No.9 and No.10 phonons, which are GaO4 asymmetric bending mode have highly negative correlation with quality factor. We can say the GaO4 tetrahedron leads main dielectric characteristics among the complex structure of Re3Ga5O12. Moreover, we find the following results. (i) The macroscopic arrangement of the Ba(Mg1/3Ta2/3)O3 films belong to disordered cubic system and the microstructure of the films shows a transition-state between disordered cubic and ordered hexagonal system. Besides, we observe the growth of secondary phase (BaCO3 phase) with the increasement of depositon time. (ii) The biggest static dielectric constant of the Ba(Mg1/3Ta2/3)O3 film determined from the far-infrared spectra is 13.27, smaller than the value of 25 in bulk materials. However, the biggest quality factor Q × f at 1 THz is 9880 GHz, which is markedly smaller than that of bulk about 70000 GHz.

Abstract CaTiO3 have high permittivity(about 170) but rather high dielectric loss(f‧Q=3600GHz).And high temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (τf =+800ppm/℃ ) also let it unstable when the temperature changes.This study combine CaTiO3 and Nd into: Ca(1-x)Nd(2x/3)TiO3 This can take a large improvement to f‧Q value andτf value. When x=0.39,we get the best limit value: f‧Q=8560 GHz, εr=97.6, τf =247(ppm/℃). Then we combine Ca(1-x)Nd(2x/3)TiO3 and Li(1/2)Sm(1/2)TiO3 to put down the τf value below 10(ppm/℃),and doped with Sr,Sm and Nd. At (x=0.39,y=0.50),we got the best value that: f‧Q=5145 GHz,εr =93.2,τf =9.7(ppm/℃).
