Nowadays, due to climate change and many other facts affecting daily life a trend to use eco-friendly transportation ways has arisen, and from them the one mostly used and with the highest acceptance is biking. Therefore, several companies have emerged offering bike-sharing systems, and those systems have been greatly accepted in the different metropolises around the world. The generalization of these systems has created a new need: to manage them efficiently. Consequently, in this work, we propose a software architecture and the implementation of a bike-sharing management system using the Internet of things (IoT).

Finnegan Lab System is a graphical computer program for learning how secret sharing works. With its focus on the algorithms and the data streams, the user does not have to consider machine-specific low-level details. It is highly modularised and is not restricted to secret sharing, but can easily be extended with new functions, such as building blocks for Feistel networks or signal processing.

This thesis describes what secret sharing is, the development of a new lab system designed for secret sharing and how it can be used.

Today many companies show a highly interest in adopting the e-business. However,companies need different information system strategy in the adoption of e-business in order tosupport information sharing. Information system strategy is concerned with aligning ofinformation system with business needs. Beside this, companies need to search after strategicadvantage from information technology, since information system strategy explains what todo with IT. The earlier experiences point to the fact that companies failed to develop theirbusinesses through Internet mainly because they did not developed an appropriate strategy.This study investigates how to implement information system strategy to support informationsharing in the context of e-business. Thus, the purpose of this study is to highlight differentperspectives in adaptation of information system strategy within e-business companies. Theempirical study is based on a qualitative method of data collection by using three interrelatedcase studies. The study conducted a number of interviews with three e-business companiesnamed Hööks, NetOnNet and Kwintet.The theoretical framework provided knowledge about e-business, information sharing, andinformation system strategies. The findings - by means of interview questions - were analyzedby theoretical ideas. The authors came to a number of conclusions:1. Perspectives in information system strategy are divided into different parts consist ofERP system, supporting system, and manual approach, depending on how the ebusinesscompanies uses the information system strategies.2. Information system strategies are embedded with ERP system and are interconnectivelyused companies that use the e-business as their core business system.3. The e-business provides information workflow to support information sharing.4. The final conclusion is that there are remaining perspectives, which are not connectedto ERP system, but they are vital for the implementation of information systemstrategies for information sharing.

This thesis describes the design, implementation and evaluation of OpenWiFi, a consumer WiFi-sharing system. OpenWiFi aims to allow owners of WiFi access points (APs) to function as private internet service providers. The OpenWiFi model combines WiFi access facilities owned by participating individuals or businesses under a virtual network operator who offers internet access from these facilities to clients who subscribe and pay for the service. The major problems in designing and implementing OpenWiFi include providing secure separation between private users of home networks from paying clients, developing a billing model that guarantees correct and fair payments when both clients and AP owners are untrusted and generalizing our mechanisms so that OpenWiFi may operate on hetergenous underlying hardware and software. We solved these problems with simple, clean procedures implemented at wireless APs and at a central Open-WiFi server that require no client modification. We conducted a number of static and mobile experiments, the result of which show that OpenWiFi is usable by roaming users who do not move continuously as well as high mobility users who connect from automobiles traveling at vehicular speeds.

Text search has been an important feature of file sharing applications since Napster. This thesis explores a directory hierarchy for categorizing and retrieving content in peer-to-peer systems as an alternative to keyword search. This thesis discusses Melody, a music sharing system that implements a directory hierarchy. Melody is built on Chord, a distributed lookup algorithm, and DHash, a distributed hash table. We evaluate the performance consequences and usability of Melody. In addition, this thesis presents two support applications: Autocat, to support automatic categorization, and Paynet, to encourage users to pay for the songs they listen to.

Our desire to have common experiences with other people leads us to share media such as photographs and music. With computer networks as the media delivery system we create new opportunities for recording media utilization and ownership. Using traditional and responsive media we explore systems that enable enhanced shared experiences through modeling groups of users. A series of prototypes built with an experimental framework, MediaConnector, help us document observations and behaviors of participants. MediaConnector is a peer-to-peer media-sharing framework that allows people to develop new peer-to-peer media sharing application. Through engendering each node with its own historical audit trail we can take a crawler approach and dynamically build group profiles and perform trend analysis. Theoretical and practical work that leads to the final framework design is discussed. In particular experiments with GPS enabled cameras that explore metadata interrelationships, networked tables to share photos and two construction tests of the MediaConnector framework in dynamic group level personalization of television and audio content. It is intended that a "constructionist" approach together with new behavioral analysis will foster new and novel sharing applications to emerge. MediaConnector is evaluated by its ability to support the above approach in a community of users.

With the current trend of cloud services available in every market area in IT business, it is somewhat surprising that security services are not migrated to the cloud widely. Security as a Service (SECaaS) model is hardly popular at the moment even though the infrastructure of the cloud, or web, can support most of the functionalities of conventional distributed security services. Another uncommon phenomenon in the cloud is sharing secure files with multi-tenant support. This kind of service would be best available integrated with a SECaaS platform that may offer more similar application services. This thesis proposes, studies, designs, develops and evaluates a Secure Documents Sharing System for Cloud Environment with the possibility of integrating to a SECaaS platform.

The scalable spatially aware media sharing display system provides an efficient and convenient means of harnessing media messaging in global communications. A three- tiered system of input, control, and output creates a medium for communication and data sharing via varied media types for relevant and enhanced contextual experiences. It is built as a platform independent infrastructure for sharing and/or displaying various media types onto a grid of, or singularly placed, target display nodes while accommodating dynamic growth in its support of on-the-fly display node assimilation. The system promotes interfacing flexibility thus allowing multiple devices, extant or yet to be, to connect and fully exploit its capabilities. In addition, the system supports an architecture that can accommodate loosely coupled parallel tasks thus exhibiting the qualities of a dynamic parallel cluster.

Just as the Internet of Things is set to change how devices are being used and connected in society in general, the Industrial Internet of Things will change the industries. In an industrial production line there are often many heterogeneous devices, and the requirements on the real-time properties of the communication between them are often strict. Creating a communication solution for the different devices, that also meet such requirements, is difficult. The traditional way for industrial devices to communicate is directly with each other or via a central point, but this communication solution is inflexible and difficult to scale up. One possible way to make communication and information sharing between devices easier is to use a dedicated middleware to handle the communication. One middleware standard is the Data Distribution Service (DDS) defined by the Object Management Group. In this thesis a DDS middleware from a specific vendor (vendor name is removed due to company confidentiality) is implemented and evaluated. The middleware is evaluated based on (1) an implementation in a prototype which shows how the middleware performs in a real-life industrial context, and (2) a simulation that showcases the potential of the technology. The DDS middleware was shown to function with a specific set of existing industrial hardware and software. The real-time properties of the communication system were studied and found to be around 3.5 times slower, when using the prototype setup, than those of the replaced communication solution. However, the round trip latency was still only 2 ms on average and 4.1 ms maximum when using the preferred settings. The simulation showed that there is potential for the DDS technology to be used in more advanced scenarios and that it should be investigated further.

Learning is vitally important because we live and work in a rapidly changing world. As learning is acquisition of knowledge or skills through utilizing given information, it is critical that one needs to be literate in order to learn effectively. However, conventional learning materials are mostly targeted for literate audiences and delivered by the means of written materials in classical educational settings making it harder for illiterate audiences to engage in learning. This thesis introduces a novel location-based multimedia knowledge sharing system, named LIVESGEO, which takes advantages of advanced capabilities of smart-phones and mobile data networks to allow peer driven learning. The system allows illiterate audiences to easily create, share, search and rate knowledge contents on the spot. The system proposes a hybrid of client-server architecture and peer-to-peer architecture to efficiently circumvent the critical limitations and leverage the advantages of mobile devices. We also propose a novel mathematical framework to characterize relative popularity of a rated content based on its reputation and quality and justify the performance with empirical evaluations against popular rating frameworks. We also explore the applicability and usefulness of geo-tagged contents accumulated by LIVESGEO. To demonstrate this, we abstract the system into a spatial content cluster framework, which acts as an abstract layer between reverse-geocoded contents and applications to provide information about the contents that are clustered based on their geo-location, to allow unique applications to be built upon the system. In addition, we provide examples of such applications which utilize the spatial content cluster framework. In order to justify the use of reverse-geocoding to cluster contents geographically, we provide empirical analyses of reverse-geocoding by making novel use of two popular mathematical models in the field of cartography, namely the Haversine and Vincenty formulae.

YouPic for Android is a presentation of the services offered by YouPic.com, on the Android platform. This is a social photo-sharing website where photographers all around the world come together to share their work and ideas, either in order to exhibit their work and gain some exposure or perhaps for some inspiration from others. One of the main targets is for photographers who travel around the world. Whatever their goal might be, this project focuses on understanding the target audience and their needs very intimately. This has been accomplished, and continues to be developed, by following a mixture of established theories in Human-Computer Interaction and also the application some human intuition, observation, logic, improvisation and creativity by the YouPic team itself. Photographers form a creative niche in our world and providing a service to them has to be particularly specialized. The various platforms available to us such as the Web and mobile platforms also need to be specially designed in turn. This thesis describes the various textbook methods followed and improvisations made during the process of building this application. The Android platform has various tools to offer to this end and at a high level, the process may be considered for any mobile platform. The users have been the center of the design process and we have strived to seriously consider each feedback and meet each demand, whether explicit or implied. A continuous effort to understand both the users and the technical aspects in building this application are described in the following pages. The app has hence been frequently and promptly updated since its release in December 2012.

In today’s society, a lot of our tools and devices go unused for the majority of the time they are in our possession. There is a needlessly large economical and environmental impact of each of us purchasing these items only to have them lay on our shelves. We have designed an application which allows its users to borrow tools and devices from their neighbours for those seldom moments when they are needed. It allows users to see the items their neighbours are willing to lend, and they can make requests for items that their neighbours can respond to. The application keeps track of who lent what to whom. This is to ensure that the borrower is held accountable for the items they have borrowed, so that the lender can have some assurance that they will have their items returned. The application was well received within a group of test users. They found the interface to be mostly intuitive, but somewhat lacking in feedback. However, due to some security flaws, the application is not suitable to be released in its current state.

Applikationen blev väl mottagen inom en grupp av testanvändare. De tyckte att gränssnittet var intuitivt för det mesta, men att det saknades viss återkoppling. Trots det är applikationen inte lämplig för utgivning i dess nuvarande tillstånd på grund av vissa säkerhetsrisker.

The project aims at solving the problem of non-repudiation, integrity and confidentiality of data when digitally exchanging sensitive resources between parties that need to be able to trust each other without the need for a trusted third party. This is done in the framework of answering to what extent digital resources can be shared securely in a decentralized public ledger-based system compared to trust-based alternatives. A background of existing resource sharing solutions is explored which shows an abundance third party trust-based systems, but also an interest in public ledger solutions in the form of the Storj network which uses such technology, but focuses on storage rather than sharing. The proposed solution, called SecuRES, is a communication protocol based on public ledger technology which acts similar to Bitcoin. A prototype based on the protocol has been implemented which proves the ability to share encrypted files with one or several recipients through a decentralized public ledger-based network. It was concluded that the SecuRES solution could do away with the requirement of trust in third parties for all but some optional operations using external authentication services. This is done while still maintaining data integrity of a similar or greater degree to trust-based solutions and offers the additional benefits of non-repudiation, high confidentiality and high transparency from the ability to make source code and protocol documentation openly available without endangering the system. Further research is needed to investigate whether the system can scale up for widespread adoption while maintaining security and reasonable performance requirements.
Projektet ämnar lösa problemen med oförnekbarhet, integritet och konfidentialitet när man delar känsligt data mellan parter som behöver lita på varandra utan inblanding av betrodd tredje part. Detta diskuteras för att besvara till vilken omfattning digitala resurser kan delas säkert i ett decentraliserat system baserat på publika liggare jämfört med existerande tillitsbaserade alternativ. En undersökning av nuvarande resursdelningslösningar visar att det existerar många tillitsbaserade system men även en växande andel lösningar baserade på publika liggare. En intressant lösning som lyfts fram är Storj som använder sådan teknologi men fokuserar på resurslagring mer är delning. Projektets föreslagna lösning, kallad SecuRES, är ett kommunikationsprotokoll baserat på en publik liggare likt Bitcoin. En prototyp baserad på protokollet har tagits fram som visar att det är möjligt att dela krypterade filer med en eller flera mottagare genom ett decentraliserat nätverk baserat på publika liggare. Slutsatsen som dras är att SecuRES klarar sig utan betrodda tredje parter för att dela resurser medan vissa operationer kan göras mer användarvänliga genom externa autentiseringstjänster. Själva lösningen garanterar integritet av data och medför ytterligare fördelar såsom oförnekbarhet, konfidentialitet och hög transparens då man kan göra källkoden och protocoldokumentation fritt läsbar utan att utsätta systemet för fara. Vidare forskning behövs för att undersöka om systemet kan skalas upp för allmän användning och alltjämt bibehålla säkerhets- samt prestandakrav.

Through over forty-five years of development, bike sharing is not a fangle in Europe. But it becomes a popular topic in China in recent two years. The Chinese startups exert IoT technologies and GPS modular in shared bikes and launched the world’s first station-less bike sharing system. This new bike sharing system gains in popularity and develops dramatically all across China. In addition, the leading bike sharing service providers such as Mobike, got over $300 million investment since the start of 2017, which caught the attention of the public. More and more venture capitalists want to touch this new tempting pie. This paper mainly focuses on investigating what are the roles of this new bike sharing system in urban mobility in China especially in Shanghai and its influences in the society. Meanwhile, the socio-technological innovations of the new bike sharing are explored together with the application of different theoretical frameworks, such as Porter’s Five Forces and system thinking. This paper also tempted to fill up the gap in the literature that describing the missing part of smart bike sharing business - using the station less bike sharing business model, involving a discussion of its pros and cons. In order to give more detailed insights about the new bike sharing industry, we choose the world’s first station-less bike sharing service company - Mobike, as our case study object to investigate the revolutionary bike sharing system in Chinese major cities, specifically in Shanghai - the representative megacity of China. Conclusions and future development suggestions are provided at the end of this paper so that the stakeholders could have some references for further development of bike sharing industry.

The Hardwood Industry in United States has been challenged by low-cost competition from overseas. Although cost reduction strategies have had minimal success, the proximity of industry to the domestic market has large implications on a more customer-focused strategy. The problem arises that individual companies and supply chains evolved based on the principles of economies of size and not on the flexibility to adapt to customer needs and changing resource constraints. An increased rate at which material and information flows through the hardwood supply chains is the key to the industriesâ ability to be customer-focused. Information systems may offer benefits for the industry, but changes in material flow of a company or supply chain cannot necessarily be predicted when implementing information systems. It was hypothesized that by understanding the dynamics between information flow and material flow throughout the supply chain, performance improvement would be possible through more effective release and use of information. A case study analysis of a hardwood supply chain was utilized to identify the effect of increased information flow on the material flow of the supply chain. Value Stream Mapping was utilized to benchmark the current state of lead times of information flow and material flow. System Dynamics was utilized to understand the relationships between the information flow and the material flow. Finally, simulations were performed to identify the specific effects on material flow as increased information flow is released through different information strategies. The study showed that increased information flow between supply chain members increased material flow through the supply chain. For a case study supply chain, an increase in information flow, through advanced knowledge of customer demand by a supplier, was found to reduce the inventory buffers throughout the supply chain by up to 38 percent and increase the total material flow through the supply chain by 10 percent. This research started with a realization that two organizations in Saudi Arabia were spending large amounts of money, millions of dollars in fact, in acquiring separate sets of geospatial data that had identical basemap components. Both the organizations would be using the data for similar engineering purposes, yet both would be independently outsourcing the data gathering. In all probability, resources are being wasted through two organizations each developing and operating stand-alone geographic information systems and then populating the databases with geospatial data obtained separately. Surely with some cooperation, a shared database could be established, with a diffusion of economic benefits to both organizations. Preliminary discussions with representatives from both the organizations revealed high levels of enthusiasm for the principle of sharing geospatial data, but the discussions also revealed even higher levels of scepticism that such a scheme could be implemented. This dichotomy of views prompted an investigation into the issues, benefits and the barriers involved in data sharing, the relative weight of these issues, and a quest for a workable model. Sharing geospatial data between levels of government, between governmental and private institutions, and within institutions themselves has been attempted on large and small scales in a variety of countries, with varying degrees of accomplishment. Lessons can be learned from these attempts at data sharing, confirming that success is not purely a function of financial and technical benefits, but is also influenced by institutional and cultural aspects. This research is aimed at defining why there is little geospatial data sharing between authorities in Saudi Arabia, and then presenting a workable model as a pilot arrangement. This should take into account issues raised in reference material; issues evidenced through experience in the implementation of systems that were configured as independent structures; issues of culture; and issues apparent in a range of existing data sharing arrangements. The doubts expressed by engineering managers towards using a geospatial database that is shared between institutions in Saudi Arabia have been borne out by the complexity of interrelationships which this research has revealed. Nevertheless, by concentrating on a two party entry level, a model has been presented which shows promise for the implementation of such a scheme. The model was derived empirically and checked against a case study of various other similar ventures, with a consideration of their applicability in the environment of Saudi Arabia. This model follows closely the generic structure of the Singapore Land Hub. The scalability of the model should allow it to be extended to other, multi-lateral data sharing arrangements. An alternative solution could be developed based on a Spatial Data Infrastructure model and this is suggested for ongoing investigation. Major unresolved questions relate to cultural issues, whose depth and intricacy have the potential to influence the realization of successful geospatial data sharing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

An overview of current spectrum management methods was carried out and it was decided that to be able to accommodate the predicted explosive growth in wireless data services changes would have to be made to avoid spectrum depletion becoming a very serious future problem. In addition, a review of numerous spectrum exploitation studies and measurement campaigns showed that nationally spectrum was being significantly underexploited. To address this apparent anomaly, it was decided that finding a means for improving spectrum exploitation nationally may provide a potential solution for the spectrum depletion problem. This is referred to as spectrum sharing, the focus for the DEng research. A new spectrum management model named Opportunistic Spectrum Management (OSM) is proposed on the basis that all spectrum licenses are awarded on a non-exclusive usage basis and spectrum use is based on a multi-level priority structure, because certain types of services require performance and spectrum availability guarantees. The proposed model retains backward compatibility with the traditional spectrum management model and its recent enhancements. To fully exploit the OSM model, the thesis proposes an automated spectrum management system name Opportunistic Spectrum Sharing System (OSSS) capable of dynamically allocating spectrum and enforcing spectrum usage priority rules both nationally and in real-time. OSSS overcomes limitations of traditional sensing based cognitive radio technology primarily its inability to distinguish between different spectrum usage classes and the hidden node problem. A key issue associated with computing acceptable power levels in an automated spectrum sharing system produced over-optimistic results. The thesis shows how this can be extended to improve its accuracy without compromising its closed form nature. Finally, the thesis concludes with a discussion of the implications and commercial benefits of opportunistic spectrum sharing from the perspectives of various wireless stakeholders, which is supported by extracts from the author’s various publications.

TwiddleNet leverages on smart phones to facilitate information sharing among first responder teams during humanitarian aid and mass casualty scenarios. Situational awareness and relief efforts coordination can thus be derived from the timely and shared information. In view of large-scale disaster relief efforts, TwiddleNet is likely to operate in multiple sites with unique network establishments. The thesis focuses on testing various scenarios for cross-network, information-sharing operations. A new architecture, based on the study of the Nokia Mobile Server concepts and existing TwiddleNet operating models, is suggested in the thesis as well.

Perhaps nothing explains the concept of interactive stories better than The road not taken by Robert Frost. His poem tells the story of a man following a road through the woods, when he comes to a fork in the road. Which way should he go? And how will this choice affect the rest of his life? In an interactive story, the author expands their story along multiple branches, and invites the reader to choose for themselves which path to take. They can also restart the story to go back and see what would lie down that other road. When an interactive story is played on a smartphone, there are additional ways of making those choices besides simply using vocal input. For example, going left or right at a fork in the road could be done by walking left or right, so that the phone's positioning service detects a change in position. A long journey could require the user to wait until the next day to find out what happens.  Based on an existing system for creating and playing interactive stories, we added new interaction possibilities for the listener and made the creation of stories easier by improving the user interface and adding features.

The cases of Guyana, Fiji, Sri Lanka, Lebanon, Mauritius, and Trinidad and Tobago are considered. Electoral systems are denoted based on presidential versus parliamentary system, and on proportional representation versus majoritarian/plurality. The paper concludes that, while electoral systems are important, other factors like the power distribution between ethnic groups, and ensuring a non-zero-sum game may be as important.

As broadband connections to the Internet become more common, new information sharing applications that provide rich services to distributed users will emerge. Furthermore, as computing devices become pervasive and better connected, the scalability requirements for Internet-based services are also increasing. Distributed object middleware has been widely used to develop such applications since it made it easier to rapidly develop distributed applications for heterogeneous computing and communication systems. As the application's scale increases, however, the client/server architecture limits the performance due to the bottleneck at the centralized servers. The recent development in peer-to-peer technologies creates a new opportunity for addressing scalability and performance problems for services that are used by many nodes. In a peer-to-peer system, peer nodes can contribute a fraction of their resources to the system, enabling more flexible and extended sharing between the entities in the system. When peer nodes are required to contribute their resources by replicating a service for self and others, however, several new challenges arise. Our thesis is that non-dedicated resources in a distributed system can be utilized to replicate shared objects dynamically so that the quality and scalability of a distributed service can be achieved with lower cost by replicating the objects at right places and updates to those shared objects can be disseminated efficiently and quickly. The following are the contributions of our work that has been done to validate the thesis. 1. A new fair and self-managing replication algorithm that allows distributed non-dedicated resources to be used to improve service performance with lower cost. 2. A multicast grouping algorithm that is used to disseminate updates to the shared objects among a large set of heterogeneous peer nodes to keep consistent view for all peer nodes. It groups nodes with similar interests into same group and multicasts all the required data to the group so that the unwanted data received by each node can be minimized. 3. An overlay construction algorithm that aims at reducing both network latency and total network traffic when delivering data through the built overlay network. 4. An implementation of a distributed object framework, GT-RMI, that allows peer nodes to invoke dynamically replicated objects transparently. The framework can be configured for a particular peer node through a policy file.

Recently, video has become a popular data type. More and more users make their own video and share it on the internet. Therefore, to provide a system for users to share and search video is important. In this thesis, we designed and implemented a new video sharing and searching system. Our search engine uses user behavior data to optimize the ranking effect and provides a new ranking mechanism that allows users to control the ranking of the results through a combination of sorting criteria such that the user can adjust the ranking effect to fit his/her personal preference. The ranking criteria includes "keyword matching degree", "click count", "like count", and "whether cached". A user interface similar to an audio equalizer is provided for the user to control the ranking parameters in an easy and intuitive way. In addition, we provide a search result classification mechanism to group search results by their categories. We also provide video caching to improve the efficiency in viewing videos.

The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of professors in the college if the knowledge management system(KMS) has been imported. The participants of this study are the teachers and students who use KMS from the university in the southern Taiwan. By narratives interviewing professors from different specialized fields about their knowledge share experiences, record their teaching interactions and experiences of using the knowledge share system, and observe them using the system to understand their difficult position when changing, and the successful experience when the system is imported into the traditional teaching process which they are used to use. The research finding indicates that cultural habits are the main forces that drive teachers’ acceptance of knowledge sharing system and their knowledge sharing behaviors. As teachers trying to adopt new knowledge sharing system in teaching, they experience the challenges of information technology usage in contrast with their teachers’ traditional role. They are afraid, yet they have no choice to defense the power of information system in advancing their teaching. This results a dilemma of changing or not to change in teaching patterns. A comprehensive description is shown in this research to provide the manifold of ambivalence of teachers. The research finding can provide the universities who are advocating teaching knowledge sharing systems in succeeding knowledge sharing between teachers and students.

Os sistemas de Bike-sharing disponibilizam o aluguer de bicicletas aos utilizadores a um pre co acess vel, melhorando assim a mobilidade urbana. Atualmente este e o meio de transporte que mais rapidamente se est a a expandir pelo mundo, com um crescimento agregado de 45% desde 2007. Hoje em dia existem mais de 800 cidades com programas de Bike-sharing. Um dos principais desa os na gest~ao de sistemas de Bike-sharing e assegurar que os utilizadores n~ao ter~ao problemas em encontrar bicicletas e lugares de estacionamento em qualquer esta c~ao do sistema, independentemente do momento do dia. Por em, o comportamento dos utilizadores faz com que as bicicletas tenham uma distribui c~ao assim etrica. Portanto e necess ario um sistema de reposicionamento de bicicletas de modo a manter o n umero adequado de bicicletas em cada esta c~ao, para a satisfazer a procura por parte dos utilizadores. O reposicionamento de bicicletas e uma opera c~ao dispendiosa em termos de log stica e sua ine ci^encia representa a principal causa de insatisfa c~ao nos clientes. O desenvolvimento de algoritmos que ajudem e aconselhem os condutores das carrinhas que fazem o reposicionamento das bicicletas a equilibrar as esta c~oes de forma e caz e precisa e um passo muito importante em termos de sustentabilidade destes sistemas. Bike-sharing o ers users bikes-on-demand at an a ordable price, improving urban mobility. It is currently the fastest growing way of transportation in the world, with an aggregated growth rate of around 45% since 2007. Nowadays there are more than 800 cities with bike-sharing programs. Currently, one of the main problems and challenges in the management of Bike- Sharing Systems is to assure that users will be able to nd available bicycles and parking slots in a station independently of the time. However, users behaviour causes bicycles to be asymmetrically distributed. Therefore a Rebalancing System is needed to maintain the adequate number of bikes at each station, in order to satisfy the demand. Rebalancing is a costly operation in terms of logistics and its ine ciency represents the main cause of dissatisfaction within customers. The design of algorithms that help and advise operators to redistribute bicycles accurately and e ciently through the cities is a very important step in terms of sustainability of these systems. In this thesis an Intelligent Bike-Sharing Rebalancing System will be developed. This system represents an additional value to the project Smart BikeEmotion developed by Ubiwhere.

A considerable amount of research has focused on load-sharing and system effects in repetitive-member wood floor systems subject to transverse loading. However, relatively few studies have been conducted to investigate load-sharing and system effects in repetitive-member wall systems which may be subject to combined transverse and gravity (vertical) loading, and which may have different boundary conditions from floors. This research investigates load-sharing and system effects in light-frame wood wall systems and seeks to develop repetitive-member system factors for codified design that rationally account for load sharing and other system effects. These factors are intended for use in the design of individual wall members, much as repetitive-member factors are used in the design of parallel-member floor and roof systems. As part of this research, an analytical model was developed to account for partial composite action, two-way action, and openings in the wall system. The model was validated using experimental test results and was shown to be able to predict reasonably well the response of light-frame wall systems. The model was then incorporated into a Monte Carlo simulation to perform reliability analyses of light-frame wall systems. Since the structural model is complex, and including a time-history analysis within the time-dependent simulation was not computationally practical, the load combination issue was considered separately from the reliability analysis. Sensitivity studies were conducted to investigate how different system parameters affect strength and reliability of light-frame wall systems. The reliability of light-frame wall systems was next evaluated using a portfolio of representative light-frame wall systems designed according to current code provisions. This portfolio approach was also used in evaluating system factors for light-frame wall systems. Thus, two different approaches (a reliability-based approach and a strength-ratio approach) were considered for developing system factors for member-design to account for load sharing, partial composite action and other system effects. Using the strength-ratio approach, a new framework for system factors (i.e., partial system factors) is suggested in which the effects of partial composite action, load sharing, load redistribution and system size (number of members) are treated separately.

Rozprawa powstała w następstwie badań nad specyfiką systemu politycznego Republiki Kenii, która jest państwem wieloetnicznym. W Kenii w 2010 roku został wprowadzony system polityczny typu power-sharing, w którym nastąpiło zmniejszenie koncentracji władzy i czerpania z niej korzyści przez dominujące wielkością i siłą grupy etniczne dzięki dopuszczeniu do udziału w rządzeniu i procesach decyzyjnych elit politycznych wywodzących się z innych grup etnicznych. Służą temu specyficzne instytucje (rozumiane jako zespoły reguł) odnoszące się bezpośrednio lub pośrednio zwłaszcza do kwestii ustanawiania i funkcjonowania egzekutywy, legislatywy, partii politycznych, systemu wyborczego, struktury terytorialnej i decentralizacji. Hybrydowość systemu kenijskiego polega na łączeniu instytucji dwóch odmiennych modeli power-sharing: centrypetalizmu i konsocjonalizmu. Celem rozprawy była identyfikacja i zbadanie funkcjonowania centrypetalnych i konsocjonalnych instytucji w kenijskim systemie politycznym oraz stwierdzenie, jaki jest wpływ ich łączenia w ramach jednego systemu na łagodzenie istniejących napięć etnicznych oraz osiąganie wyższego poziomu stabilizacji politycznej w Kenii. Ponadto celem rozprawy było przeanalizowanie sposobów, w jaki instytucje polityczne pochodzące z dwóch przeciwstawnych na płaszczyźnie teoretycznej modeli power-sharing się uzupełniają dla realizacji tych celów. Zakres rozprawy obejmował następujące kwestie: problematykę systemów politycznych; teorię power-sharing, w tym modele centrypetalny, konsocjonalny i hybrydowy; problematykę etniczności, grupy etnicznej i konfliktu etnicznego; historię polityczną i specyfikę wieloetniczności Kenii; instytucje kenijskiego systemu politycznego, w szczególności należące do systemowych rozwiązań typu power-sharing.
The dissertation was written as a result of research on the specificity of the political system of the Republic of Kenya, which is a multi-ethnic state. In Kenya, a power-sharing political system was introduced in 2010, within which took place: decreasing in the concentration of power and deriving of benefits by ethnic groups dominating in size and power, due to admitting political elites originating from other ethnic groups to participate in the governance and decision-making processes. This was achieved by specific institutions (understood as sets of rules) relating directly or indirectly, in particular, to the issue of establishing and functioning of the executive, legislature, political parties, the electoral system, territorial structure and decentralisation. The hybrid nature of the Kenyan system consists in combining the institutions of two different power-sharing models: centripetalism and consociationalism. The aim of the dissertation was to identify and examine the functioning of centripetal and consociational institutions in the Kenyan political system and to determine the impact of combining them within a single system on alleviating the existing ethnic tensions and achieving a higher level of political stabilisation in Kenya. Moreover, the aim of the dissertation was to analyse the formula in which political institutions derived from two power-sharing models which are theoretically opposed to each other, complement to each other in order to achieve these goals. The scope of the dissertation covered the following issues: political systems; power-sharing theory, including centripetal, consociational and hybrid models; issues of ethnicity, ethnic group and ethnic conflict; the political history and specificity of Kenya's multi-ethnicity; institutions of the Kenyan political system, in particular those belonging to systemic power-sharing solutions.

This thesis represents a preliminary step in the development of a reliable application program simulating an operating system which handles several multi-security-level users dynamically sharing system resources in the Gemini Trusted Multiple Microcomputer Base machine. The proposed design presents the necessary steps to follow when working in a multilevel configuration. The use of primitives that support the application design are explained along with a description of the implementation of this application using Janus/Ada language. Visual secret sharing (VSS) scheme was proposed by Noar and Shamir in 1994. This is a technique that divided the secret image that will be transformed into several meaningless shadows and certain qualified subsets of shadows enable to recover the secret image by "eyes". The main characteristic of the VSS scheme is in its decoding process that the original secret can be perceived directly by the human visual system without the knowledge of cryptography and the cryptographic computations. It possesses a special meaning and effect that "the secret codes are visible". In this thesis, our main objective is to use the VSS scheme in our daily life and to implement an application system. The whole system is divided into five parts: magic card, lottery, arithmetic quiz, electronic mail, and fax. Our system is suitable for entertainment, information education, and secret message sending. And we also combine VSS scheme with E-mail and fax to be used on commerce. We implement the VSS scheme into software, so as to convey the importance of privacy safeguarded. In theory, we propose a new VSS scheme, top-down VSS scheme. The characteristic of the scheme is that it can conceal two secret messages (P1 and P2) on two shadows (T1 and T2) at the same time. When T1 and T2 stacked together, P 1 is recovered. By reversing T1 and covering it on T2, P 2 is revealed. In real application of VSS scheme, we discuss the distortion about using fax function. And we propose our solution for this question.

In recent years, vigorous development of network applications has gradually changed from the traditional network applications to the wireless mobile network applications and services. It forms the vehicle network (VANET) by connecting the wireless network, using the moving vehicles as a platform in the vehicle environment. It deploys an intelligent transport system (ITS) to integrate the information of vehicle and road for improving the safety and efficiency of traffic. The traditional vehicle network system contains two important communication modules, namely the wireless transmission device (OBU) which is installed in vehicles and roadside base station. OBU likes a computer, is responsible for executing the applications and transferring, receiving data. It integrates with sensors, such as event data recorder, GPS, and so on, for receiving its traffic data and finally interacts with users by the input/output interface. However, the deployment cost is expensive. If you can find an alternative wireless transmission device which has lower cost and can also achieve the same ability, then it will be welcome. In this study, we propose a system architecture which composes of three layers. We use the very popular smart phones as our wireless transmission devices, which provide its sensors, video capture, GPS, and so on, for collecting the vehicle information nearby and then stored in the database. It allows users to exchange the vehicle information near their area, and then can obtain the traffic situation from afar in order to achieve the traffic safety. Keywords: VANET, ITS, OBU, GPS
