Although self-promotion (communicating one’s past accomplishments and positive characteristics) is important for obtaining career and educational opportunities, women feel uncomfortable when doing it, which limits their self-promotion success. This study tested which of the three possible theoretical mechanisms explained women’s limited self-promotion success: (1) cognitive dissonance, (2) stereotype threat, and (3) backlash avoidance. In this experiment, college women ( N = 123) wrote a scholarship application essay and the ownership of the essay was varied experimentally. The essays were evaluated by the authors themselves and independent judges. The results were most consistent with a backlash avoidance mechanism whereby women feel uncomfortable self-promoting due to perceived social consequences.

To improve the reliability and yield of thermopile infrared detectors, a self-test, self-calibration and self-repair methodology is proposed in this paper. A novel micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) infrared thermopile detector structure is designed in this method with a heating resistor building on the center of the membrane. The heating resistor is used as the stimuli of the sensing element on chip to achieve a self-test, and the responsivity related with ambient temperature can be calibrated by the equivalent model between electrical stimuli and physical stimuli. Furthermore, a fault tolerance mechanism is also proposed to localize the fault and repair the detector if the detector fails the test. The simulation results with faults simulated by the Monte Carlo stochastic model show that the proposed scheme is an effective solution to improve the yield of the MEMS thermopile infrared detector.

Test results are presented for rotordynamic coefficients and leakage for three annular seals which use an anti-swirl self-injection concept to yield significant improvement in whirl frequency ratios as compared to smooth and damper seals. A new anti-swirl self-injection mechanism is achieved by deliberately machining self-injection holes inside the seal stator to partially divert inlet flow into the anti-swirl direction. The anti-swirl self-injection mechanism is used to achieve effective reduction of the tangential flow which is considered as a prime cause of rotor instability in high performance turbomachinery. Test results show that the self-injection mechanism significantly improves whirl frequency ratios; however, the leakage performance degrades due to the introduction of the self-injection mechanism. Through a series of tests, an optimum anti-swirl self-injection seal which uses a labyrinth stator surface with anti-axial flow injections is selected to obtain a significant improvement in the whirl frequency ratio as compared to a damper seal, while showing moderate leakage performance. The best whirl frequency ratio is achieved by an anti-swirl self-injection seal of 12 holes anti-swirl and 6 degree anti-leakage injection with a labyrinth surface configuration. When compared to a damper seal, the optimum configuration outperforms the whirl frequency ratio by a factor of 2.

A novel self-restoring uplift column was proposed to allow uplift of exterior column bases of core-outrigger structures, which may make upper structure rock and hence mitigate seismic damage. The self-restoring uplift column consists of two steel sub-columns, a steel shear panel and several post-tensioned strands. Besides uplift mechanism, energy dissipating and self-restoring mechanisms were involved to dissipate energy and reduce structural residual drift, respectively. Low cycle test of four one-seventh scaled specimens were conducted and then simulated by finite element analysis. Self-restoring capability and satisfactory energy dissipating ability were observed in experimental results. The calibrated finite element models were then used to explore key design issues of the self-restoring uplift column. It was indicated that the elastic state of post-tensioned strands and sufficient restoring force were the two main factors influencing the restoring behavior most. A simplified model for axial behavior of the self-restoring uplift column was developed to simplify the design of the self-restoring uplift column. Finally, key design requirements about gap opening, shear panel, and self-centering capability were discussed.

A cementitious system embedded in microcapsules can achieve self-healing, and the fracture and triggering behavior of microcapsules is with great importance. In this study, the crack behavior of the concrete-microcapsule system was simulated by a three-dimensional lattice model. Based on the results of the fracture energy test on concrete beams and the nanoindentation test on microcapsules, the local mechanical properties of the lattice elements were determined. The aim of this paper is to set up a three-dimensional lattice model to study the trigger mechanism of the microcapsule-interface-concrete zone.

More pronounced aging effects, more frequent early-life failures, and incomplete testing and verification processes due to time-to-market pressure in new fabrication technologies impose reliability challenges on forthcoming systems. A promising solution to these reliability challenges is self-test and self-reconfiguration with no or limited external control. In this work a scalable self-test mechanism for periodic online testing of many-core processor has been proposed. This test mechanism facilitates autonomous detection and omission of faulty cores and makes graceful degradation of the many-core architecture possible. Several test components are incorporated in the many-core architecture that distribute test stimuli, suspend normal operation of individual processing cores, apply test, and detect faulty cores. Test is performed concurrently with the system normal operation without any noticeable downtime at the application level. Experimental results show that the proposed test architecture is extensively scalable in terms of hardware overhead and performance overhead that makes it applicable to many-cores with more than a thousand processing cores.

Abstract. As a labor-intensive operation, manual harvesting greatly affects cost and therefore profitability in the cabbage industry. A new compact self-propelled cabbage harvester for small, separate fields was designed and field tested. This harvester included a crawler chassis, a picking mechanism, a lifting mechanism, a cutting device, and a leaf separator. Results of preliminary field tests showed that the harvester had good flexibility and maneuverability. Results of field performance tests showed that the harvester could pick cabbages with diameters of 15 to 25 cm, providing a harvesting capacity of 0.21 hm2 h-1 and a harvest loss of 10.2%. Compared with experiments conducted in traditional fields, harvest quality showed an improvement in fields with an experimental cultivation method. The harvest loss was reduced by 5.0%, while the picking rate and accurate cutting rate were improved by 3.0% and 5.4%, respectively. Anglicizing the superalloy mechanical and cutting characteristics, and according to the oil-stone grinding characteristics, choose the current commonly abrasives in the domestic. Processing performance test of inconel 718 deep-hole honing is carried out. The comparison test results show that the grinding performance of ceramic corundum is better than other oilstones at test condition. Grinding characteristics of ceramic corundum is carried on, study show that the size of ceramic alumina grits range from 0.067 to 0.005 μm, The grinding passivated tiny grains of ceramic corundum oil-stone broken and fall off timely, which is beneficial to oil-stones, self-sharpness. The excellent performance of ceramic corundumcan self-sharpening can improves the efficiency of honing effectively.

Patients with Diabetes mellitus can experience psychological distress that is stress, depression, and anxiety. Psychological disorders in diabetic patients caused by changes in behavior in everyday life such as physical activity, regular blood glucose control, continuous drug consumption, proper diet, and avoid foot wounds. The patient's response to stress depends on positive coping mechanisms. Positive self-belief or self-efficacy of a patient to the treatment of his illness can increase positive coping mechanisms. This study aims to explain the relationship between self-efficacy with coping mechanisms in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study used correlation research design with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling technique in this study used consecutive sampling with respondents 36 outpatients type 2 diabetes mellitus in dr. Haryoto Hospital at Lumajang. Data was obtained by giving questionnaires of the Diabetes Management Self Efficacy Scale (DMSES) and the Cope Inventory, analyzed by using Spearman Rank correlation test. This study showed a significant relationship between self-efficacy and coping mechanism (p = 0.001) with a strong and positive correlation (r = 0.673) which shows the higher self-efficacy of the patient then the coping mechanism will better. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who have high self-efficacy in the treatments will have good coping mechanisms in dealing with psychological distress such as stress, depression, and anxiety

The purpose of this article is to assess the association of test anxiety and academic performance with study skills, coping mechanism, self-concept, self-esteem, and psychological distress among university and high school students. A series of validated measures were administered to 284 Kosovar students, most of whom were in college (60.3%). Being in college and social support resulted as protective factors for test anxiety. Better study skills, self-concept, and psychological distress were indicative of higher test anxiety. Higher levels of self-esteem were associated with higher student success. Practical implications and research future directions have also been discussed.

For test-sheet composition systems, it is important to adaptively compose test sheets with diverse conceptual scopes, discrimination and difficulty degrees to meet various assessment requirements during real learning situations. Computation time and item exposure rate also influence performance and item bank security. Therefore, this study proposes an Adaptive Test Sheet Generation (ATSG) mechanism, where a Candidate Item Selection Strategy adaptively determines candidate test items and conceptual granularities according to desired conceptual scopes, and an Aggregate Objective Function applies Genetic Algorithm (GA) to figure out the approximate solution of mixed integer programming problem for the test-sheet composition. Experimental results show that the ATSG mechanism can efficiently, precisely generate test sheets to meet the various assessment requirements than existing ones. Furthermore, according to experimental finding, Fractal Time Series approach can be applied to analyze the self-similarity characteristics of GA’s fitness scores for improving the quality of the test-sheet composition in the near future.

The present research investigates the role of self-regulatory mechanisms in the context of gender and ethnic differences (between African Americans and Caucasians) in math test performance. Building on two basic notions proposed in regulatory focus theory, it is argued that gender and ethnic differences in math performance are particularly pronounced under conditions where prevention-focused self-regulation is activated (by emphasizing point deductions for mistakes). This assumption refers to a specific mechanism documented in previous research on regulatory focus theory: The differential-sensitivity mechanism according to which a prevention focus renders individuals particularly sensitive with regard to negative information (such as negative performance expectancies). Results of an archival data analysis document a substantial differential gender and ethnic gap in math performance as a function of test instruction (involving point deductions for mistakes or not) supporting the proposed differential gender and ethnic-gap hypothesis. The gap between women and men as well as the gap between African-American and Caucasian test takers is substantially larger in the Scholastic Aptitude Test for math (which involves point deductions for mistakes) than in the corresponding American College Test.

Self-serving bias is individuals' belief that leads them to blame external forces when bad things happen and to give themselves credit when good things happen. To evaluate how underlying evaluative associations toward the self or others differ between individuals, and/or how the regulation mechanism of the influence of such associations differs, we used a multinomial process model to measure the underlying implicit self-esteem in these processes with 56 Chinese undergraduate students. The results indicated that participants assessed themselves as being better than others when their performance was followed by a desirable outcome. Subsequent application of the quadruple processes showed that both activation of positive associations toward self and regulation of the associations played important roles in attitudinal responses. Our findings may provide a supplementary explanation to that of previous results, promoting understanding of the mechanism underlying self-serving bias.

Transformer models are now widely used for speech processing tasks due to their powerful sequence modeling capabilities. Previous work determined an efficient way to model speaker embeddings using the Transformer model by combining transformers with convolutional networks. However, traditional global self-attention mechanisms lack the ability to capture local information. To alleviate these problems, we proposed a novel global–local self-attention mechanism. Instead of using local or global multi-head attention alone, this method performs local and global attention in parallel in two parallel groups to enhance local modeling and reduce computational cost. To better handle local location information, we introduced locally enhanced location encoding in the speaker verification task. The experimental results of the VoxCeleb1 test set and the VoxCeleb2 dev set demonstrated the improved effect of our proposed global–local self-attention mechanism. Compared with the Transformer-based Robust Embedding Extractor Baseline System, the proposed speaker Transformer network exhibited better performance in the speaker verification task.

The friction and wear properties of self-lubricating fabric composites were closely related to fiber properties. In this paper, polyimide (PI), polyetheretherketone (PEEK), polyisophthalamide (PMIA) and cyclic aramid (Aramid III) fibers were selected as reinforcing fibers to compare and investigate the friction and wear properties of self-lubricating fabric composites at high temperature. The tribological behavior of self-lubricating fabric composites was evaluated by ball-on-disk friction test. The wear mechanism was investigated by scanning electron microscope and mechanical test. As a result, the composite with PI as warp and weft reinforcing fiber has outstanding wear resistance because of the higher modulus of PI fiber. Its wear rate is 1.29 × 10−8 mm3/(N·mm). It shows that the stronger the rigidity of the reinforcing fiber at high temperature, the better the wear resistance of the composite. However, the friction coefficient of composites with PI as weft reinforcing fibers is about 0.8, which is much higher than that of composites with PMIA, PEEK and Aramid III as weft reinforcing fibers. Their friction coefficients are about 0.1. In addition, the self-lubricating fabric composites with different warp and weft reinforcing fibers were prepared as self-lubricating joint bearing liners to evaluate bearing applications.

Completely and reasonably workability evaluation to SCC has an obviously influence in concrete engineering field. The paper introduced the rheology and workability mechanism of SCC. Ten workability assessment methods, such as Slump Flow test, U-box test, J-ring test, L-box test, VSI method, Oriment test, V-funnel test, Inverted Slump Cone test, were presented and the advantages and disadvantages of each appraisal procedure and the evaluation practice were analyzed. It also put forward the prospect direction of workability evaluation of SCC.

To investigate the mechanism of self-bias magnetoelectric effect in magnetoelectric composite materials, a synchronous characterization technique was developed to characterize the magnetoelectric effect, the magnetostrictive effect, and the magnetic hysteresis loop by one-time test. The results of a magnetoelectric composite consisting of hybrid ferromagnetic phases showed that the obvious magnetoelectric hysteresis behavior was found with significant self-bias magnetoelectric effect. In addition, after demagnetizing, the residual magnetic polarization became zero and the magnetoelectric effect disappeared at the same time. Since the ferromagnetic phases were separated from each other, the mechanism of self-bias magnetoelectric effect mainly resulted from static magnetic coupling instead of build-in magnetic field. It was concluded that the synchronous characterizing technique was quite helpful when analyzing the mechanism of magnetoelectric behavior.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine a behavioral mechanism linking transformational leadership (TFL) and subordinates’ task performance and its boundary conditions. The authors examined the mediation role of subordinates’ feedback-seeking behavior and the interactive effect of self-efficacy and dyadic tenure on the transformational leadership-task performance link. Design/methodology/approach – Paper and pencil surveys were administered to 239 supervisor-subordinate dyads from different industries in Taiwan. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to test the discriminant validity of the main variables. Hierarchical linear regression and bootstrapping were used to examine the moderated mediation effect. Findings – First, subordinates’ feedback-seeking behavior mediates the relationship between TFL and subordinates’ task performance. Second, self-efficacy mitigates this mediation process when dyadic tenure is low, whereas self-efficacy enhances this mediation process when dyadic tenure is high. Research limitations/implications – The use of a cross-sectional design prevents us from drawing causal conclusions. Practical implications – This study suggests that for high-self-efficacy subordinates, organizations should try to shorten the period required to familiarize oneself with transformational leaders. In contrast, for low-self-efficacy subordinates, organizations should try to enhance their self-efficacy over time to ensure that they are capable of implementing transformational leaders’ expectations in the long run. Originality/value – This empirical study examines a behavioral mechanism in the TFL-task performance link. In addition, by addressing the interactive effect of TFL, self-efficacy and dyadic tenure, it resolves theoretical conflicts and enables us to better understand the effectiveness of TFL in different contexts. Self-attention mechanisms have recently caused many concerns on Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks. Relative positional information is important to self-attention mechanisms. We propose Faraway Mask focusing on the (2m + 1)-gram words and Scaled-Distance Mask putting the logarithmic distance punishment to avoid and weaken the self-attention of distant words respectively. To exploit different masks, we present Positional Self-Attention Layer for generating different Masked-Self-Attentions and a following Position-Fusion Layer in which fused positional information multiplies the Masked-Self-Attentions for generating sentence embeddings. To evaluate our sentence embeddings approach Multiple Positional Self-Attention Network (MPSAN), we perform the comparison experiments on sentiment analysis, semantic relatedness and sentence classification tasks. The result shows that our MPSAN outperforms state-of-the-art methods on five datasets and the test accuracy is improved by 0.81%, 0.6% on SST, CR datasets, respectively. In addition, we reduce training parameters and improve the time efficiency of MPSAN by lowering the dimension number of self-attention and simplifying fusion mechanism.

Background: Cancer is a disease that causes various physical and mental problems. Being diagnosed with cancer affects the self-efficacy and behavior of individuals to choose a coping mechanism in facing the problem.Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of self-efficacy on solving problems, seeking support, and avoiding problems as coping mechanisms in cancer patients.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 45 cancer patients selected using a total sampling technique from two public health centers in Surabaya, Indonesia. Data were collected using the General Self-Efficacy Scale and Coping Strategy Indicator, and analyzed using the Shapiro Wilk for data normality, and linear regression to determine the effects of self-efficacy on solving problems, seeking support, and avoiding problems with p< 0.05. Results: The results showed the participants’ rate of self-efficacy levels (M=3.26), and coping mechanism levels in solving problems (M=3.46), seeking support (M=2.88), and avoiding problems (M=3.27), as well as mean scores of self-efficacy (32.6±3.8), solving problems (34.6±3.8), seeking support (31.8±3.7), and avoiding problems (32.7±3.2). Based on the linear regression test, there was a significant effect self-efficacy on solving problems (p<0.001; R2=0.97), seeking support (p<0.001; R2=0.98), and avoiding problems (p<0.001; R2=0.98) as coping mechanisms. Conclusion: Cancer patients who had high self-efficacy scores would choose solving problems and seeking support as the coping mechanisms, but those with lower scores on self-efficacy prefer to avoid the problems.

The self-balanced loading test is a state-of-art pile testing method, but its suitability to pile bearing capacity determination in transformer substation engineering in mountainous and hilly areas is not yet clear. In this study, a two-dimensional axisymmetric numerical model is established by the PLAXIS software to simulate the behavior and bearing mechanism of shallow rock-socketed short piles based on the self-balanced loading test. The model is first validated by simulating the field tests of two adjacent piles under self-balanced loading. Then the influence factors of the load-displacement curves of piles are analyzed. Thereafter, the mechanical mechanism of the self-balanced loading tests is simulated and compared with the conventional static loading tests. It is observed that the rock modulus, rock-socketed depth of piles, and burial depth of the Osterberg Cell affect the load-displacement significantly, but the cohesion of the rocks affects little. Moreover, compared with the conventional static loading tests, the shear stress of the pile-soil interface distributes less uniformly under self-balanced loading conditions. On this basis, a bearing capacity computation method of shallow rock-socketed short piles based on the self-balanced loading test is proposed.

It is essential to estimate the quality of transmission (QoT) of lightpaths before their establishment for efficient planning and operation of optical networks. Due to the nonlinear effect of fibers, the deployed lightpaths influence the QoT of each other; thus, multi-channel QoT estimation is necessary, which provides complete QoT information for network optimization. Moreover, the different interfering channels have different effects on the channel under test. However, the existing artificial-neural-network-based multi-channel QoT estimators (ANN-QoT-E) neglect the different effects of the interfering channels in their input layer, which affects their estimation accuracy severely. In this paper, we propose a self-attention mechanism-based multi-channel QoT estimator (SA-QoT-E) to improve the estimation accuracy of the ANN-QoT-E. In the SA-QoT-E, the input features are designed as a sequence of feature vectors of channels that route the same path, and the self-attention mechanism dynamically assigns weights to the feature vectors of interfering channels according to their effects on the channel under test. Moreover, a hyperparameter search method is used to optimize the SA-QoT-E. The simulation results show that, compared with the ANN-QoT-E, our proposed SA-QoT-E achieves higher estimation accuracy, and can be directly applied to the network wavelength expansion scenarios without retraining.

A new hot dip Zn-5%Al-0.3%Mg alloy coating was performed on cold rolled common steel. The hot-dip process was executed by self-made hot dip galvanising simulator (China patent, No.201010160353). The corrosion resistance of alloy-coated steels was detected by neutral salt spray test . SEM and EDS test results demonstrate that Mg is mainly distributed in the crystal boundary. XRD test results shows corrosion product of Zn-5%Al-0.3%Mg alloy coating is mainly Zn5(OH)8Cl2•H2O. The characteristic of Zn5 (OH)8Cl2•H2O is dense and insoluble, so it is protective. In order to study the anticorrosion mechanism, all the tests of the Zn-5%Al-0.3%Mg alloy were carried out with Zn-5%Al coating together.

Brain-storm optimization (BSO), which is a population-based optimization algorithm, exhibits a poor search performance, premature convergence, and a high probability of falling into local optima. To address these problems, we developed the adaptive mechanism-based BSO (ABSO) algorithm based on the chaotic local search in this study. The adjustment of the search space using the local search method based on an adaptive self-scaling mechanism balances the global search and local development performance of the ABSO algorithm, effectively preventing the algorithm from falling into local optima and improving its convergence accuracy. To verify the stability and effectiveness of the proposed ABSO algorithm, the performance was tested using 29 benchmark test functions, and the mean and standard deviation were compared with those of five other optimization algorithms. The results showed that ABSO outperforms the other algorithms in terms of stability and convergence accuracy. In addition, the performance of ABSO was further verified through a nonparametric statistical test.

Crocker and Major (1989) hypothesized three mechanisms by which members of stigmatized groups may protect self-esteem. The mechanisms are: a) ingroup social comparisons, b) valuing/devaluing performance selectively, and c) racial prejudice. We provide a test of Crocker and Major's hypothesized mechanisms with the development of the Protective Style Questionnaire which was administered to a sample of 78 African-American adolescents. Evidence of high internal consistency reliability (about .86) and factor loadings support the orthogonality of the three mechanisms. Results showed varying levels of endorsement of each mechanism.

This article describes that during the progressive process, the aging mechanism is very important to keep a swarm diverse. In the quantum behavior particle swarm (QPSO) algorithm, the particles are aged and the algorithm is prematurely convergent, the self-renewal mechanism of life is introduced into QPSO algorithm, and a leading particle and challengers are introduced. When the population particles are aged and the leading power of leading particle is exhausted, a challenger particle becomes the new leader particle through the competition update mechanism, group evolution is completed and the group diversity is maintained, and the global convergence of the algorithm is proven. Next in the article, twelve Clement2009 benchmark functions are used in the experimental test, both the comparison and analysis of results of the proposed method and classical improved QPSO algorithms are given, and the simulation results show strong global finding ability of the proposed algorithm. Especially in the seven multi-model test functions, the comprehensive performance is optimal.

This paper proposes a data-driven knowledge-based system with which aged people can measure the degree of activities of daily living (ADL) by themselves. The proposed system, called E-coach for ADL Test (EAT), provides participants with self-measurement procedures, using e-coaching, which is a guidance mechanism to lead the participants from an initial stage to a target goal. The EAT traces the behavior of the participants to gather ADL data that tell how well they perform the given e-coaching. Driven by the Internet of Things data, the knowledge-based inference of the EAT carries out the e-coaching mechanism that figures out what state the self-measurement procedures stay on and what guidance is necessary for the next state. The EAT ensures that all the procedures for ADL measurement are executed automatically without any help from medical professionals. The experiment described in this paper demonstrates that the EAT distinguishes between dementia patients and normal people. The measurement report assists medical doctors in the diagnosis of certain medical conditions that these people may have.

This research was conducted at SMPN X Tapa. The purpose of this research was to determine the relationship between self-concept and coping mechanisms in adolescent smokers at SMPN X Tapa. The research method uses an analytical design with a cross sectional approach. Cross sectional survey is a study to study the dynamics of the correlation between risk factors and effects, by approach, observation or data collection all at once (point time approach). The sample of this research was 88 students and the sampling was done by using purposive sampling technique. Purposive sampling is a sampling technique with certain considerations. Where the probability value is in the range of 0.088 (> 0.05) and the correlation coefficient is -0.183. This research shows that the self-concept of adolescent smokers at SMPN X Tapa is mostly in the moderate category, namely 53 people, while the coping mechanisms of adolescent smokers at SMPN X Tapa are classified as maladaptive, namely 48 people. It can be concluded about the data analysis carried out between self-concept variables and coping mechanisms in adolescents at SMPN X Tapa, where the probability value is in the range of 0.088 which means > 0.05 and the correlation coefficient is -0.183. The results of the study, seen from the existence of a Spearmen rank correlation hypothesis test, showed that there was no negative relationship between self-concept and coping mechanisms in adolescent smokers at SMPN X Tapa.

Despite the increasing amount of research attention work engagement has received, there are still some gaps in understanding of its antecedents. We examined the relationships among supervisor–subordinate guanxi, employees' work engagement, and self-efficacy with a sample of 354 employees from six Chinese hotels. Structural equation modeling was used to test the hypotheses. Results revealed that supervisor–subordinate guanxi was positively related to employees' work engagement and self-efficacy, and that self-efficacy was positively related to work engagement. This study is the first to find that selfefficacy is a mediating mechanism that transmits the effect of supervisor–subordinate guanxi to employees' work engagement, which highlights the importance of supervisor–subordinate guanxi and the mechanisms that contribute to enhancement of employees' work engagement. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Abstract: The concept of self-healing concrete emanated from one of the most prestigious biological properties which is to naturally proceed healing performance when any damage appears and regenerating the functions. Thus, by relating that mechanism in engineering with the common phenomenon of crack formation, this concept has been studied and evaluated over the past years where Self-healing concrete was defined as the ability of cementitious composites to reduce or completely heal a crack width autogenously or autonomously upon damage. Therefore, test method and experimental procedure are conducted to ensure the efficiency of the mechanical properties and performances of the concrete, and also to help in a case of a research work or project; gathering some necessary information or data to apply adequately on a proposed hypothesis or work because the success of experimental research usually confirms that the change observed in the variable under study is solely based on the manipulation of the independent variable. In this paper, the emphasis is highlighted on test method and experimental procedure of self-healing concrete conducted on grout (W), commercial grout with 10% expansion agent (CCSA) and research grout with addition of expansion agent (WCSA) to evaluate its mechanical properties and performances. Abstract This study aims to identify mechanisms responsible for the achievements in the artistic gymnastics performance. The main mechanisms we have considered a priori as being mechanisms of change were: anxiety for high performance sport, general self-efficacy, specific self-efficacy in gymnastics, motivation in high performance sport, emotional skills and social skills. Gymnasts from 3 national clubs attended this study. The gymnasts were distributed in 3 lots. The subjects are between 8 and 10 years. Since this study aimed to monitor certain psychological variables and one of the participating group received psychological counseling, before intervention we submitted screening questionnaires related to emotional and behavioral disorders to all groups. All gymnasts attending the study received questionnaires related to each mechanism monitored both in the beginning and at the end of the emotional development program. During the study the gymnasts were distributed in three lots as follows: the first lot received in addition to classical training methods, an emotional training program and a complex technical training program; the second lot received the same complex technical training program as the first lot; and the third lot did not receive intervention program and the gymnasts were trained following the traditional training program. We have analyzed the results using the procedure described by Weersing, V.R. and Weisz, J.R. [19]: the Efficiency Test, the Specificity of Intervention Test, Mechanisms of Change Test; Mediation Test.

Pursuing an object detector with good detection accuracy while ensuring detection speed has always been a challenging problem in object detection. This paper proposes a multi-scale context information fusion model combined with a self-attention block (CSA-Net). First, an improved backbone network ResNet-SA is designed with self-attention to reduce the interference of the image background area and focus on the object region. Second, this work introduces a receptive field feature enhancement module (RFFE) to combine local and global features while increasing the receptive field. Then this work adopts a spatial feature fusion pyramid with a symmetrical structure, which fuses and transfers semantic information and feature information. Finally, a sibling detection head using an anchor-free detection mechanism is applied to increase the accuracy and speed of detection at the end of the model. A large number of experiments support the above analysis and conclusions. Our model achieves an average accuracy of 46.8% on the COCO 2017 test set.

A new type of hot-dip Zn-5Al-0.5Mg-0.08Si and Zn-5Al alloy coatings was performed on the cold rolled common steel. The hot-dip process was executed by self-made hot-dip galvanising simulator. SEM and EDS test results demonstrated that Mg was mainly distributed in crystal boundaries. XRD test results showed that the corrosion product of Zn-5Al-0.5Mg-0.08Si alloy coating was almost Zn5(OH)8C12⋅H2O. The features of Zn5(OH)8C12⋅H2O are low electric conductivity, insolubility and good adhesion.The corrosion resistance of alloy-coated steels was detected by neutral salt spray test. The microstructural characterization of the coating surface after neutral salt spray test and removing the corrosion products revealed that the corrosion process of Zn-5Al-0.5Mg-0.08Si coating was uniform and the coating surface was almost flat. As a result, the corrosion resistance of Zn-5Al-0.5Mg-0.08Si coating has a remarkable improvement with a factor of 9.2 compared with that of Zn-5Al coating.

Self-compacting rock-fill concrete with natural and recycled aggregate can be applied in large structural components’production. According to the deep analysis of material's mechanical properties test data, the author makes a study on the strength mechanism of the concrete material. The results show that the concrete material essentially is concrete, and the concrete strength of large-sized natural aggregate and recycled aggregate are basically the same. However, due to the varieties in material production process and material shape as well as the influence of the mechanical properties and aggregate size, the strength mechanism of them is different. Effective control on mechanical properties of self-compacting rock-fill concrete and aggregate's appearances and shapes is helpful to the strength design of the self-compacting rock-fill concrete with large aggregate.

The SiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized with a ydrothermal method and modified by oleic acid. The tribological properties of the modified SiO2 nanoparticles as bricating oil additives are studied by friction test. It was found that the nanoparticles as additives in lubricant oil can effectively improve anti-friction and anti-wear roperties. The anti-friction and anti-wear mechanisms were discussed and the lubricating effect of SiO2 nanoparticles can be attributed to rolling effect and self-repairing effect of mechanism.

Notched beam specimens were loaded by the three-point bending test device, and the effects of different volume contents and combinations of steel fibers on the tensile properties of hybrid steel fiber–reinforced self-compacting concrete (HSFRSCC) were studied. The failure law and strain field distribution of the specimens were studied by digital image correlation (DIC) technology. Moreover, the curves between the load and crack mouth opening displacement (CMOD) of 18 groups of hybrid steel fiber–reinforced concrete specimens were obtained, and the stress–strain curves of 18 groups of specimens were derived from the load–CMOD curves. The results show that both single and hybrid steel fibers can improve the crack deformation resistance and tensile properties of concrete, but hybrid steel fibers have a more significant improvement effect. Only when the content of steel fiber is more than 0.6% can it have a more obvious postpeak descending section, and hybrid steel fiber has higher postpeak deformation capacity and flexural toughness. The fundamental reason why concrete with hybrid steel fibers has better tensile properties is that micro and macro steel fibers cooperate with each other to resist cracks, improving the toughness of concrete after cracking. Finally, the mechanism of different size and volume content of steel fiber was analyzed from the micro level, which can be used as a reference for the engineering design of HSFRSCC in the future.

The shear behavior of prestressed self-compacting concrete (SCC) beams has been investigated in this study. The effect of compressive strength of SCC on the shear strength has been taken into account in test program. Based on the experimental data, the failure mechanism of the prestressed SCC beams was discussed and the shear transfer mechanism of the RC beam after the flexure-shear cracking was also analyzed.

Collective intelligence refers to the ability of groups to outperform individual decision-makers. At present, relatively little is known about the mechanisms promoting collective intelligence in natural systems. We here test a novel mechanism generating collective intelligence: self-organization according to information quality. We tested this mechanism by performing simulated predator detection experiments using human groups. By continuously tracking the personal information of all members prior to collective decisions, we found that individuals adjusted their response time during collective decisions to the accuracy of their personal information. When individuals possessed accurate personal information, they decided quickly during collective decisions providing accurate information to the other group members. By contrast, when individuals had inaccurate personal information, they waited longer, allowing them to use social information before making a decision. Individuals deciding late during collective decisions had an increased probability of changing their decision leading to increased collective accuracy. Our results thus show that groups can self-organize according to the information accuracy of their members, thereby promoting collective intelligence. Interestingly, we find that individuals flexibly acted both as leader and as follower depending on the quality of their personal information at any particular point in time.

The Aeolian vibration wear test of the self-damping conductors for large crossing was carried on a fretting fatigue wear test-bed. This test has been finished in three different vibration times under 25% ultimate tensile strength (UTS). The morphology observations and dimension measurement of aluminum wire wear scar has been analyzed by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM) and DMR multifunctional microscope. By observing the surface morphology and composition of the conductors, the influence law on the wire wear has been analyzed, and the analysis results reveal the contact wear mechanism, which is basically in accord with the working wires. The result shows the worn spots of the transmission line is an elliptic shape. The test result has important guiding meaning in further study on wear characteristics of self-damping conductors for large crossing under aeolian vibration.

Polyphonic sound event detection (SED) is the task of detecting the time stamps and the class of sound event that occurred during a recording. Real life sound events overlap in recordings, and their durations vary dramatically, making them even harder to recognize. In this paper, we propose Convolutional Recurrent Neural Networks (CRNNs) to extract hidden state feature representations; then, a self-attention mechanism using a symmetric score function is introduced to memorize long-range dependencies of features that the CRNNs extract. Furthermore, we propose to use memory-controlled self-attention to explicitly compute the relations between time steps in audio representation embedding. Then, we propose a strategy for adaptive memory-controlled self-attention mechanisms. Moreover, we applied semi-supervised learning, namely, mean teacher–student methods, to exploit unlabeled audio data. The proposed methods all performed well in the Detection and Classification of Acoustic Scenes and Events (DCASE) 2017 Sound Event Detection in Real Life Audio (task3) test and the DCASE 2021 Sound Event Detection and Separation in Domestic Environments (task4) test. In DCASE 2017 task3, our model surpassed the challenge’s winning system’s F1-score by 6.8%. We show that the proposed adaptive memory-controlled model reached the same performance level as a fixed attention width model. Experimental results indicate that the proposed attention mechanism is able to improve sound event detection. In DCASE 2021 task4, we investigated various pooling strategies in two scenarios. In addition, we found that in weakly labeled semi-supervised sound event detection, building an attention layer on top of the CRNN is needless repetition. This conclusion could be applied to other multi-instance learning problems.

This paper addresses the functional verification and performance assessment of an ultra-low shock non-explosive actuator appropriate to space applications of hold-down and release mechanisms. To demonstrate that the design implementation and manufacturing methods have resulted in an engineering model conforming to the set of functional, performance and environmental requirements specified, a space qualification test campaign is typically required. To ensure the readiness of the engineering model and the adequacy of the mechanical and electrical ground support equipment required for the entire qualification test campaign, a set of functional verification procedures and performance characterization tests were systematized and undertaken before the mechanism qualification. A preload monitoring system was developed and calibrated, and the performance of the mechanism was evaluated through the estimation of the release time and the measurement of the self-generated shock. The main results and conclusions taken from these tests are presented and discussed here.

The main effects for associations between psychosocial stressors and caregiver outcomes are well established, but little is known about the mechanisms of these relationships. Aims of this study were to examine the hypotheses that satisfaction with family relationships (SF) is a mechanism by which quality of relationship (QR) between adult children caregiver and parents with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) influences depression, life satisfaction (LF), and self-rated health (SRH) among these caregivers. The participants were 716 Brazilian adult children who cared for their parents with AD and related disorders. Regression-based path analysis was performed; a PROCESS, bias-corrected and accelerated bootstrapping method was used to test confidence intervals. The relationships between QR and both depression (B = .3263, p < .001) and SRH (B = .3263, p < .001), were fully mediated by SF. The relationship between QR and LF was partially mediated by SF. The primary finding is that SF is one mechanism by which QR relates to depressive symptomatology, self-rated health, and life satisfaction.

The response of polymeric beams made of Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) in the form of 3D printed beams is investigated to test their elastic and plastic responses under different bending loads. Two types of 3D printed beams were designed to test their elastic and plastic responses under different bending loads. These responses were used to develop an origami capsule-based novel self-healing mechanism that can be triggered by crack propagation due to strain release in a structure. Origami capsules of TPU in the form of a cross with four small beams, either folded or elastically deformed, were embedded in a simple ABS beam. Crack propagation in the ABS beam released the strain, and the TPU capsule unfolded with the arms of the cross in the direction of the crack path, and this increased the crack resistance of the ABS beam. This increase in the crack resistance was validated in a delamination test of a double cantilever specimen under quasi-static load conditions. Repeated test results demonstrated the effect of self-healing on structural crack growth. The results show the potential of the proposed self-healing mechanism as a novel contribution to existing practices which are primarily based on external healing agents.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop a better understanding of the mechanisms by which symbolic commitment to self-regulation influences corporate environmental performance through the adoption of substantive actions. Design/methodology/approach – Using a sample of Chinese listed private firms in manufacturing sectors, this paper empirically investigates whether and how corporate symbolic commitment to environmental self-regulation really improves the consequences of corporate activities with respect to environmental issues under the current Chinese context. A moderated mediation analysis is employed to test the hypotheses and examine the relationships proposed in the research framework. Findings – The authors argue that making a commitment to environmental self-regulation could motivate firms to implement effective means of being green. The intriguing and robust results show that firms with higher ranking environmental commitment are more likely to use political connections to obtain resources (green subsidies), and then improve environmental performance. Practical implications – The results of this study provide a snapshot of the mechanism between symbolic promises and real outcomes. Originality/value – The authors theorize about and test both direct and indirect effects of commitment to self-regulation on real outcomes which provide empirical evidence for the incipient but growing understanding of self-regulation.
