This article looks at a particular type of routine formula, called ‘second-level discourse marker’ (SLDM), which falls within the scope of what is sometimes termed ‘procedural vocabulary’. Having defined and exemplified the notion, I set up a structural typology of SLDMs. I then proceed to discuss the possibility of structural equivalence between English, German and French SLDMs. I conclude by exploring the treatment accorded to SLDMs in some of the major bilingual dictionaries. The language material used for purposes of illustration is drawn from a wide variety of corpora.

Abstract. The term heterogeneity has been defined in various ways so that the meaning of heterogeneity has become ambiguous. However, heterogeneity can be defined carefully as a distinct response to multiple single types of underlying variation, that is, a secondary level of variation (or "metavariation"). Identification of heterogeneity is affected by multiple factors, including researcher decisions, and ecosystems at a specified scale can contain both heterogeneous and homogenous variables. A formalized definition may also reduce the suggestion that heterogeneity is more beneficial than homogeneity.

Objective: The objectives of the study are to identify and categorize non-native students´ errors in the written summaries, to see which research instruments – the mobile reading app (experimental group) or internet-based article (control group) are more effective, and to determine if language proficiency of students will improve. Methods: This study uses an analysis of linguistic-stylistic errors as a research method on the written performance of 29 EFL Slovak students in 29 written summaries. Findings: The findings indicate that the most problematic areas in writing summaries were grammatical (determiners), followed by stylistic (text coherence, slang words, and punctuation), lexical (word collocations), and lexico-stylistic errors (prepositions). Overall, students´ proficiency in both groups rose from B2 to C1 level by 38% of the students (11 students). Therefore, both methods – the reading app and internet-based articles are effective. Novelty: The novelty of the study consists in enriching the existing literature by pointing out errors of EFL Slovak students making in writing summaries by exploiting modern technology in the writing process. The article considers the history of the residential development in Saint Petersburg and states corresponding landmark dates. In recent years, changes in the altitude range of the residential development are noted, the influence of this factor on the formation of the city’s silhouette is assessed. Reasons for such changes are identified. Attractiveness of high-rise residential complexes for living is assessed. Conclusions are made of tendencies in further housing construction development in terms of its altitude range. It is noted that it is possible to locate multi-storied buildings in the periphery of the city, taking into account specific visual characteristics of the construction site and silhouette of erected buildings; as for central districts, strict regulations regarding the altitude range are needed.

We investigate the impact of decisions in the second-level (i.e., over subjects) inferential process in functional magnetic resonance imaging on (1) the balance between false positives and false negatives and on (2) the data-analytical stability, both proxies for the reproducibility of results. Second-level analysis based on a mass univariate approach typically consists of 3 phases. First, one proceeds via a general linear model for a test image that consists of pooled information from different subjects. We evaluate models that take into account first-level (within-subjects) variability and models that do not take into account this variability. Second, one proceeds via inference based on parametrical assumptions or via permutation-based inference. Third, we evaluate 3 commonly used procedures to address the multiple testing problem: familywise error rate correction, False Discovery Rate (FDR) correction, and a two-step procedure with minimal cluster size. Based on a simulation study and real data we find that the two-step procedure with minimal cluster size results in most stable results, followed by the familywise error rate correction. The FDR results in most variable results, for both permutation-based inference and parametrical inference. Modeling the subject-specific variability yields a better balance between false positives and false negatives when using parametric inference.

The entanglement entropy of the incompressible states of a realistic quantum Hall system in the second Landau level is studied by direct diagonalization. The subdominant term of the area law, the topological entanglement entropy, which is believed to carry information about topological order in the ground state, was extracted for filling factors ν = 12/5 and ν = 7/3. While it is difficult to make strong conclusions about ν = 12/5, the ν = 7/3 state appears to be very consistent with the topological entanglement entropy for the k = 4 Read–Rezayi state. The effect of finite thickness corrections to the Coulomb potential used in the direct diagonalization is also systematically studied.

Objective: To know the impact of the disease in a second level care hospital, which are the signs and symptoms shown by infected patients, which are the treatments usually administrated and which services are admitted. Material and methods: Retrospective descriptive analytical study among the population attending the Emergency service of Rafael Méndez Hospital of Lorca between January 1st 2011 and December 31st 2019 with an infectious mononucleosis diagnosis. Once the sample was obtained, the necessary clinical and analytical variables were collected from the clinical records. Results: 600 patients attended to the emergency service with a clinical diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis, which supposes an incidence of 0.4 cases each 1000 habitants per year. 42 patients with a middle age from 16.8 ± 9.26 years old were included, being 57.1% women. The serology for Epstein-Bar was positive on 29 patients, positive for cytomegalovirus on 1 patient and negative for both on 12 patients. The most frequent symptoms presented were fever (66.7%), odynophagia (73.3%) and dysphagia (62.7%). The alteration of the hepatic enzymes was observed on an 81.6%. Admission were made by internal medicine (44.4%), otorhinolaryngology (33.3%) and paediatrics (16.7%). The 55.5% (25) of patients was following a treatment with antibiotics at the moment of the admission. Conclusion: Mononucleosis usually presents mild symptoms and low rates of hospital admission. Asthenia has showed, in a significant way, a symptom linked to EBV mononucleosis. Neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, and elevated transaminases are the most distinctive laboratory features in EBV infectious mononucleosis. Training of primary care physicians would be useful in order to avoid the use of unnecessary antibiotics

Fluent readers are characterized by their ability in comprehending reading text flawlessly. They need no such a significant delay to process either word recognition or world knowledge while putting some efforts to get the gist of the text. Thus, their reading speed would increase by the time their word recognition skill improved. This also implicates their reading comprehension as well since they are skillful enough to relate what they know about the text with the text itself. However, that condition happened differently to students who joined Reading for General Purposes class. Some students who read in normal speed varied in their reading comprehension score. Students’ reading speed level must have yielded the approximate score to their speed level, moderate score. This occurrence leaded the writer to investigate if there is any correlation between students’ reading speed level and their reading comprehension. Thus, correlational research design was deployed in this research. Sample of this research were students who joined writer’s Reading for General Purposes class, 74 students. The data were collected by using tests, reading speed test and reading comprehension. After collecting the data, the writer analyzed them by using Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation to test the hypothesis. Since the result of Spearman’s rho value Sig. = .608 > α = .05, alternative hypothesis was not accepted which meant that there was no correlation between students’ reading speed level and their reading comprehension.
