Parking area is one of the facilities that must be available in specific or public places such as parks, recreation areas, malls, offices, business areas and agencies, and other places. Currently, the existing parking facilities generally do not provide information on the presence or absence of vacant parking spaces. This often causes problems in finding parking spaces, where vehicle users, especially four-wheeled vehicles (cars) will look for empty parking spaces by walking around so they can spend a lot of time. This study aims to create a parking lot monitoring system that is equipped with a microcontroller-based monitoring system so that vehicle users can find out how many parking spaces are available and where the parking lot is located. This parking monitoring system was developed using the prototyping method so that determining the need for the actual system is easier to realize. The test results of this device show that this prototype can provide information regarding the number of vacant parking lots and their locations. The impact of this research is that it can eliminate the accumulation of vehicles in front of the parking lot entrance, because vehicle users can easily and quickly find a parking location.

A number of studies have analyzed the possible impacts of bottom-up parking information or parking reservation systems on parking dynamics in abstract simulation environments. In this paper, we take these efforts one step further by investigating the impacts of these systems in a real-life context: the center of the city of Antwerp, Belgium. In our simulation, we assume that all on-street and off-street parking places are equipped with technology able to transmit their occupancy status to so-called smart cars, which can receive information and reserve a parking place. We employ PARKAGENT, an agent-based simulation model, to simulate the behavior of smart and regular cars. We obtain detailed data on parking demand from FEATHERS, an activity-based transport model. The simulation results show that parking information and reservation hardly impact search time but do reduce walking distance for smart cars, leading to a reduction in total parking time, that is, the sum of search time and walking time. Reductions in search time occur only in zones with high occupancy rates, while a drop in walking distance is especially observed in low occupancy areas. Societal benefits of parking information and reservation are limited, because of the low impact on search time and the possible negative health effects of reduced walking distance.

A rapidly growing number of vehicles in recent years cause long traffic jams and difficulty in the management of traffic in cities. One of the most significant reasons for increased traffic jams on the road is random parking in unauthorized and non-permitted places. In addition, managing of available parking places cannot achieve the expected reduction in traffic congestion related problems due to mismanagement, lack of real-time parking guidance to the drivers, and general ignorance. As the number of roads, highways and related resources has not increased significantly, a rising need for a smart, dynamic and effective parking solution is observed. Accordingly, with the use of multiple sensors, appropriate communication network and advanced processing capabilities of edge and cloud computing, a smart parking system can help manage parking effectively and make it easier for the vehicle owners. In this paper, we propose a multi-layer architecture for smart parking system consisting of multi-parametric parking slot sensor nodes, latest long-range low-power wireless communication technology and Edge-Cloud computation. The proposed system enables dynamic management of parking for large areas while providing useful information to the drivers about available parking locations and related services through near real-time monitoring of vehicles. Furthermore, we propose a dynamic pricing algorithm to yield maximum possible revenue for the parking authority and optimum parking slot availability for the drivers.

Traffic congestion is one of the main issues in the study of transportation planning and management. It creates different problems including environmental pollution and health problem and incurs a cost which is increasing through years. One-third of this congestion is created by cars searching for parking places. Drivers may be aware that parking places are fully occupied but will drive around hoping that a parking place may become vacant. Opportunistic services, involving learning, predicting, and exploiting Internet of Things scenarios, are able to adapt to dynamic unforeseen situations and have the potential to ease parking search issues. Hence, in this paper, a cooperative dynamic prediction mechanism between multiple agents for parking space availability in the neighborhood, integrating foreseen and unforeseen events and adapting for long-term changes, is proposed. An agent in each parking place will use a dynamic and time varying Markov chain to predict the parking availability and these agents will communicate to produce the parking availability prediction in the whole neighborhood. Furthermore, a learning approach is proposed where the system can adapt to different changes in the parking demand including long-term changes. Simulation results, using synthesized data based on an actual parking lot data from a shopping mall in Geneva, show that the proposed model is promising based on the learning accuracy with service adaptation and performance in different cases.

The common problem that is mostly found in urban area and the organizations service numbers of people such as government places, university, department store, and hospital, is the insufficient car parking. This problem is the result of the continuing increasing number of vehicle. Further, the car parking management is insufficient so the service users waste their time and fuel trying to look for the available parking. The objective of this research was to develop mobile application for smart car parking using Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) and Internet of Thing (IoT) which can detect the available parking lot so it is time saving for people. Moreover, the parking area management is more efficient as it minimizes the limitation of traditional system which the users have to access web application which is unable to automatically alert when the parking lot status has changed. Further, the data can be applied to the management and planning such as analyzing numbers of vehicle daily to compare with the parking lot if it is sufficient or not in order to improve and provide more parking space appropriately.

Parking lots are places of high air pollution as numerous vehicles cruise to find vacant parking places. Open parking lots receive high vehicle traffic, and when limited empty spaces are available it leads to problems, such as congestion, pollution, and driver frustration. Due to lack of return on investment, open parking lots are little studied, and there is a research gap in understanding the magnitude of CO2 emissions and cruising observed at open parking lots. Thus, this paper aims to estimate CO2 emissions and cruising distances observed at an open parking lot. A thermal camera was utilized to collect videos during peak and non-peak hours. The resulting videos were utilized to collect cruising trajectories of drivers searching for empty parking spaces. These trajectories were analyzed to identify optimal and non-optimal cruising, time to park, and walking distances of drivers. A new CO2 model was proposed to estimate emissions in smaller geographical regions, such as open parking lots. The majority of drivers tend to choose parking spaces near a shopping center, and they prefer to cruise non-optimal distances to find an empty parking space near the shopping center. The observed mean non-optimal cruising distance is 2.7 times higher than the mean optimal cruising distance. Excess CO2 emissions and non-optimal cruising were mainly observed during visitor peak hours when there were limited or no empty parking spaces. During visitor peak hours, several vehicles could not find an empty parking space in the region of interest, which also leads to excess cruising.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to find a real-time parking location for a four-wheeler. Design/methodology/approach Real-time parking availability using specific infrastructure requires a high cost of installation and maintenance cost, which is not affordable to all urban cities. The authors present statistical block matching algorithm (SBMA) for real-time parking management in small-town cities such as Bhavnagar using an in-built surveillance CCTV system, which is not installed for parking application. In particular, data from a camera situated in a mall was used to detect the parking status of some specific parking places using a region of interest (ROI). The method proposed computes the mean value of the pixels inside the ROI using blocks of different sizes (8 × 10 and 20 × 35), and the values were compared among different frames. When the difference between frames is more significant than a threshold, the process generates “no parking space for that place.” Otherwise, the method yields “parking place available.” Then, this information is used to print a bounding box on the parking places with the color green/red to show the availability of the parking place. Findings The real-time feedback loop (car parking positions) helps the presented model and dynamically refines the parking strategy and parking position to the users. A whole-day experiment/validation is shown in this paper, where the evaluation of the method is performed using pattern recognition metrics for classification: precision, recall and F1 score. Originality/value The authors found real-time parking availability for Himalaya Mall situated in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, for 18th June 2018 video using the SBMA method with accountable computational time for finding parking slots. The limitations of the presented method with future implementation are discussed at the end of this paper.

Parking problems became ubiquitous and are growing at an alarming rate in every major city. It causes parking problems which cause a trafficjam, driver’s frustration, and pollution. One time we visit differentpublic places for example shopping center, multiplex movies hall & lodging house during carnivals or holidays, it makes the added parking difficult. Checking out a parking lot results in 40% to 50% of traffic jams. Due to this, car parking, in turn, causes the traffic issue. There are some problems associated with car parking like the way to control the amount of the car within the parking zone, monitoring the movement of the car in/outside of the parking zone, check whether there's an area inside for more cars or not and therefore the safety to park. This paper proposes an answer for these problems using the concept of the web of Things. iParkisa fully automated system that senses the entry and exit of a car, displays the entire number of cars parked within the parking zone on screen, and the way many free spaces are available within the parking lot.

Intelligent Parking Systems (IPS) allow customers to select a car park according to their preferences, rapidly park their vehicle without searching for the available parking space (place) or even book their place in advance avoiding queues. IPS provides the possibility to reduce the wastage of fuel (energy) while finding a parking place and consequently reduce harmful emissions. Some systems interact with in-vehicle navigation systems and provide users with information in real-time such as free places available at a given parking lot (car park), the location and parking fees. Few of these systems, however, provide information on the forecasted utilisation at specific time. This paper describes results of a traffic survey carried out at the parking lot of supermarket and the proposal of the model predicting real-time parking space availability based on these surveyed data. The proposed model is formulated as the non-homogenous Markov chains that are used as a tool for the forecasting of parking space availability. The transition matrices are calculated for different time periods, which allow for and include different drivers’ behaviour and expectations. The proposed forecasting model is adequate for potential use by IPS with the support of different communication means such as the internet, navigation systems (GPS, Galileo etc.) and personal communication services (mobile-phones).

<span>The number of vehicles in Indonesia is currently increasing, which is not matched by the availability of parking lots, especially cars. Like in public places, namely, offices, shops, and other public places. However, in Indonesia the use of parking lots is still less organized, such as too close the position of one car to another, the position of the vehicle that is not in line with the slot, this can cause inconvenience in the use of parking lots or both parties. Supervision carried out by the manager of the parking lot is still lacking because it can be caused by the vast parking area and the number of supervised vehicles, so that a parking control system is needed that can help overcome this problem. The control system to be designed uses a proximity sensor to detect the proximity of the vehicle to one another, where the position of the vehicle has been determined, not only to detect proximity, but the number of vehicles that have entered the parking area, so parking users know whether the slot provided is still available or not. To detect distance, fuzzy logic method is applied. Fuzzy methods are applied to read the conditions received by the proximity sensor, and calculate the number of vehicles using infra red and photodiode sensors. If information from the proximity sensor that is processed in the microcontroller by fuzzy logic is detected, the output is in the form of an LED indicator and alarm warning.</span>

This study investigated several aspects of handicapped parking in a small mid-southern town. Specifically, in the first part of the study, city residents were observed unobtrusively in the parking lots of two public places to determine demographic characteristics of who was parking in these spaces. The second phase involved evaluating the number of handicapped parking spaces available in relation to the number of handicapped license plates and temporary and permanent placards issued in the county. The final phase involved identifying from public records, disability categories under which persons were assessed handicapped stickers from their physicians. Results indicated that although a majority of persons USing designated parking did indeed have a visible plate or placard, 67% of the group showed no visible disability (abnormal gait or assistive device). This finding was observed despite the fact that 81% of physician documented reasons for issuing placards/plates were for cases where a person was diagnosed with two disabilities, could not walk more than 100 feet without resting, or was diagnosed as “severely” disabled due to arthritis, neurological, or some orthopedic condition. Implications and recommendations for dealing with this growing occurrence are discussed.

As fully automated valet parking systems are being developed, there is a transition period during which both human-operated vehicles (HVs) and autonomous vehicles (AVs) are present in the same parking infrastructure. This paper addresses the problem of allocation of a parking space to an AV without conflicting with the parking space chosen by the driver of a HV. A comprehensive assessment of the key factors that affect the preference and choice of a driver for a parking space is established by the fuzzy comprehensive method. The algorithm then generates a ranking order of the available parking spaces to first predict the driver’s choice of parking space and then allocate a space for the AV. The Floyd algorithm of shortest distance is used to determine the route for the AV to reach its parking space. The proposed allocation and search algorithm is applied to the examples of a parking lot with three designed scenarios. It is shown that parking space can be reasonably allocated for AVs.

Autonomous parking valet systems improve users’ comfort, helping with the task of searching for a parking space and parking maneuvering; and due to the simple infrastructure design and low speeds, this maneuver is quite feasible for automated vehicles. Various demonstrations have been performed in both closed parking and in open air parking; scenarios that allow the use of specific technological tools for navigation and searching for a parking space. However, there are still challenges. The purpose of this paper was the integration of perception, positioning, decision-making, and maneuvering algorithms for the control of an autonomous vehicle in a parking lot with the support of a single LiDAR sensor, and with no additional sensors in the infrastructure. Based on a digital map, which was as simplified as possible, the driver can choose the range of parking spaces in which the vehicle must look for a space. From that moment on, the vehicle moves, looking for free places until an available one in the range selected by the driver is found. Then, the vehicle performs the parking maneuver, choosing between two alternatives to optimize the required space. Tests in a real parking lot, with spaces covered with metallic canopies, showed an accurate behavior.

The growth trend and the trend of population migration into city centres, as well as the continuous increase in the number of motor vehicles cause traffic jams and congestions in most major cities in the world. In order to eliminate the problems caused by the circling in search of available parking space, i.e. by the congestion, different methods and approaches are implemented. First of all, these are the appropriate strategies and policies that are made in order to regulate the existing situation and to demotivate the arrival of part of the population in the city centre, which does not represent a necessity. Another way to eliminate the above problem, which is the most emphasized in this paper, is represented by the intelligent parking systems. Intelligent parking systems are used to guide the driver to the available parking space and to provide information on the characteristics of it. Normally, they are also used for parking reservation and payment, but in most cases they were related exclusively to closed parking lots and garages. With the technological progress and the development of intelligent sensors it has become possible even to control street parking spaces, which is especially emphasized in this paper. Also, an advanced model of guidance to available parking spaces using a cooperative approach is proposed. The simulation model presenting the advantages of this system compared to the classical approach, which are also highlighted in this paper, is developed.

Nowadays, a sustainable and smart city focuses on energy efficiency and the reduction of polluting emissions through smart mobility projects and initiatives to “sensitize” infrastructure. Smart parking is one of the building blocks of intelligent mobility, innovative mobility that aims to be flexible, integrated, and sustainable and consequently integrated into a Smart City. By using the Internet of Things (IoT) sensors located in the parking areas or the underground car parks in combination with a mobile application, which indicates to citizens the free places in the different areas of the city and guides them toward the chosen parking, it is possible to reduce air pollution and fluidifying noise traffic. In this article, we present and discuss an innovative Deep Learning-based ensemble technique in forecasting the parking space occupancy to reduce the search time for parking and to optimize the flow of cars in particularly congested areas, with an overall positive impact on traffic in urban centres. A genetic algorithm has also been used to optimize predictors parameters. The main goal is to design an intelligent IoT-based service that can predict, in the next few hours, the parking spaces occupancy of a street. The proposed approach has been assessed on a real IoT dataset composed by over than 15M of collected sensor records. Obtained results demonstrate that our method outperforms both single predictors and the widely used strategy of the mean providing inherently robust predictions.

An appropriate parking supply in cities should not only satisfy car travel demands but also restrict the number of car trips to reduce congestion and carbon emissions on road networks. This paper analyzes when car owners will abandon car driving based on a survey of the parking experiences of people in Changsha, China. The results indicate that car owners are most likely to abandon driving when the total time expenditure (including the search time and walking time) exceeds 20 min or the walking distance between a car park and a destination exceeds 400 m. In addition, car owners’ decisions regarding different trip purposes (commuting, business, hospital trips, shopping and entertainment activities) are compared. Multinomial logistic regression models and correspondence analysis methods are applied to identify the factors influencing car owners’ decisions. The results show that public transport and the parking pricing level near work places have a substantial impact on people’s decisions: people will more readily abandon driving when the travel time of public transit decreases; age, occupation and annual household income have a significant influence on people’s parking condition preferences for business trips and trips to hospitals; and the factor that primarily influences the mode choice for shopping and entertainment trips is annual household income. The outcome of this study can provide a basis for determining the optimal parking supply level and facilitate the realization of sustainable transportation.

The park and ride (P&R) parking type is usually located near peripheral public transport stops. These parking places are dedicated to people who, after leaving their vehicle in the parking, continue their journey to the city center using some form of public transport such as bus, metro, rail or tram systems. This article aims to examine the features associated with P&R parking locations in use in Cracow (Poland). The analysis included the number of entries and exits to and from parking during particular periods of the day, week and year, parking time of vehicles, and parking space use. A parking peak hour factor was also calculated, which expresses the crowding degree of vehicle entries/exits in/out parking during a particular period. In addition, the paper presents an analysis of factors determining users to P&R parking use. In the modeling process, logit models were used, which, as stated after analyzing the literature on the subject, were already used in various countries around the world to describe the behavior of P&R parking users. However, so far, such research relating to Polish conditions has been not published in the available literature. The obtained results allowed to state that the most important factors determining the likelihood of using P&R parking in Cracow are age, number of years having a driving license, monthly income (gross), and an average number of trips made during a day. Other variables, which not included in the study, can influence the P&R parking use. However, the presented results are the basis for conducting furtherer, more in-depth analyses based on a larger number of independent variables that may determine the P&R parking use.

This not only leads to a waste of fueland timethat a driver consumes in looking for an appropriate parking spot, but also results in an additional loss ofthe above parameters for the other drivers due to the traffic congestion caused due to slow pace of the driver in search for a parking slot. The solution is to introduce a smart system which is both capable and efficient to solve the problem by not only allowing the end-user to view the available parking spot but also to book the slot in advance there by the user will know well in advance where he should go in order to park his vehicle.

In recent years, it has been observed that it becomes time-consuming and cumbersome job to find a vacant parking lot, especially in urban areas. Thus, it makes difficult for potential visitors or customers to search a vacant space for parking their vehicles and keeps on revolving round the parking area which not only increases frustration level but also wastes time and energy. In order to get an optimal parking lot immediately, there is a requirement of an efficient car-park routing systems. Current systems detecting vacant parking lots are either based on very expensive sensor based technology; or based on video based technologies which do not consider various weather conditions like sunny, cloudy and rainy weather. In the proposed work, a hybrid model is designed for detecting outdoor parking which detects the empty spaces available in the parking lots and the spaces/ slots getting vacant in the real-time scenario. This model is based on training, validating and testing the images (dataset) collected from various heights and angles of different parking areas stored in the repository. In this research, more advanced feature extractors and machine learning algorithms are evaluated in order to find the vacant parking lots in the outdoor park-ing areas.

INTRODUCTION: With the continuous growth of cities and its demography, the number of vehicles has also increased in the cities which contributes to a greater difficulty in finding parking spaces. The time it takes for a citizen to find a free space in a car park can be tiring and contributes negatively to the level of air pollution. Smart Parking solutions intend to address this issue by proposing systems that, in many cases, include sensors and/or cameras with the purpose of facilitating the search for available parking spots.OBJECTIVES: In this paper, a crowdsourcing-based approach that makes use of a mobile app for facilitating the search for a parking space in the Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo is presented.METHODS: The solutions intend to lower the time to park and, therefore, the amount of CO2 produced by vehicles of the academic community. Some gamification techniques were used to motivate users to be engaged with the mobile app.RESULTS: A survey was used to evaluate the solution and the app usability. It showed that the use of the app can contribute to reduce the time spent to find a parking space in approximately 50.75%, and consequently reducing the CO2 by the same amount, and it was also verified that the users enjoyed using the mobile app.CONCLUSION: The developed solution shows the efficient use of mobile applications, crowdsourcing and gamification approaches and their role to contribute to a more sustainable mobility.

The current situation is considered on the development of safe and secure parking areas for trucks in Europe. The reports of the International Road Transport Union were analyzed on the European Union-funded project on Safe and secure truck parking areas for trucks in Europe and a final report on the study of safe and secure places for truck parking in the EU. The analysis of European regulations is carried out on road infrastructure safety management, specification of truck parking zones, rules of working time and rest of the driver, as well as Ukrainian legislation on these issues. With a view to provide a consistent definition of secure truck parking areas and a quality framework, an EU-wide rating system and security and service at SSTPAs has been defined during the study that included participation by all key stakeholders within the road transport and logistics sector. This rating system should now be implemented as a standard by a newly created EU expert group. The quality of the entire system and of the individual secure truck parking areas shall be guaranteed by ensuring that independent third party audits will occur for all secure truck parking areas within the system. In the future this quality system could also link to ITS solutions for the road transport sector. The implementing the study results in both existing truck parking areas and in new truck parking areas and thereby increasing the number of available secure parking areas throughout Europe, there is a strong probability that cargo crime and incident rates will be reduced significantly and that the security and well-being of truck drivers will be improved, thereby benefitting road safety as well. Recommendations for possible measures to improve the legislation of Ukraine are provided in terms of establishing the SSTPA in view of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement provisions. The large number of vehicles constantly seeking access to congested areas in cities means that finding a public parking place is often difficult and causes problems for drivers and citizens alike. In this context, strategies that guide vehicles from one point to another, looking for the most optimal path, are needed. Most contributions in the literature are routing strategies that take into account different criteria to select the optimal route required to find a parking space. This paper aims to identify the types of smart parking systems (SPS) that are available today, as well as investigate the kinds of vehicle detection techniques (VDT) they have and the algorithms or other methods they employ, in order to analyze where the development of these systems is at today. To do this, a survey of 274 publications from January 2012 to December 2019 was conducted. The survey considered four principal features: SPS types reported in the literature, the kinds of VDT used in these SPS, the algorithms or methods they implement, and the stage of development at which they are. Based on a search and extraction of results methodology, this work was able to effectively obtain the current state of the research area. In addition, the exhaustive study of the studies analyzed allowed for a discussion to be established concerning the main difficulties, as well as the gaps and open problems detected for the SPS. The results shown in this study may provide a base for future research on the subject.

COVID-19 has hit cities hard. With the closure of places of work and learning, third places, places of leisure and consumption, and more, the pandemic has diminished our territories and contracted public space and public life. But a keen observation reveals a more nuanced picture. In many neighborhoods, an interesting phenomenon of reclaiming much neighborhood space for public use is evident. The repurposing of residential streets, sidewalks, parking lots, and other modest public spaces in neighborhoods shows an expansion of public space and sociability. This expansion is also that of agency. The elimination of events and programming and the cordoning off of standardized equipment has left public space in an unembellished state of bareness. Space is available for citizens to make public. This pandemic has revealed our desire for publicness of the everyday, our ingenuity to use spaces for public life, and what is possible in our cities and in our public spaces.

2029 Background: Nonmedical costs from cancer treatment can be a significant out-of-pocket expense. As treatment may span over months, parking costs can become a significant burden on patients and caregivers. This cross-sectional study aims to report parking fees at National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer centers and to project parking costs for the treatment duration of certain cancers. Methods: Parking fees from NCI treatment centers were obtained via online search or phone call in Fall of 2019. City cost of living, median city household income, and discount availability were documented. Pearson correlation was used between parking costs and city variables. Parking costs were estimated for treatment of node positive breast cancer (12 daily rates plus 20 1-hr rates), definitive head and neck cancer (35 1-hr rates) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) (42 daily rates). RStudio Version 1.2.5033 was used for analyses. Results: Parking costs were obtained for 100% of the 63 NCI centers included. Median city cost of living relative to New York City was 75.0 (out of 100); median city household income was $55,295 (range $28,974-$120,573). Twenty-five (40%) of NCI centers did not have detailed parking cost information online. Average parking costs were $3.55/hr (median $2, range 0-$15) and $7.79/day (median $5, range 0-$40). Twenty centers (32%) offered completely free parking for patients. Free parking was available at 43 (68%) centers for radiation appointments and 34 (54%) centers for chemotherapy appointments. Averaged estimated parking costs including discounts for a course of treatment for breast cancer was $122.03 (range 0-$800); head and neck cancer, $85.56 (range 0-$665); and AML hospitalization, $327.33 (range 0-$1470). City cost of living was positively correlated with daily parking costs (R = 0.7, p < 0.01) and negatively correlated with both free daily parking (R = -0.33, p = 0.02) and free parking during radiation (R = -0.34, p = 0.02) or chemotherapy (R = -0.37, p < 0.01). The median city household income was correlated with the daily parking costs (R = 0.30 p = 0.02) but not with free daily parking (R = -0.19, p = 0.16), free parking for patients on radiation (R = -0.23, p = 0.09) or on chemotherapy (R = -0.21, p = 0.14). Conclusions: Patients may face significant nonmedical costs through parking fees, even at centers that reflect the highest standard of care. There was high variability in costs with the potential for patients to pay hundreds of dollars in parking in order to receive their care. Efforts to minimize financial toxicity should focus on this potentially under-reported patient concern.

Scheduling the charging times of a large fleet of Electric Vehicles (EVs) may be a hard problem due to the physical structure and conditions of the charging station. In this paper, we tackle an EV’s charging scheduling problem derived from a charging station designed to be installed in community parking where each EV has its own parking lot. The main goals are to satisfy the user demands and at the same time to make the best use of the available power. To solve the problem, we propose an artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm enhanced with local search and some mating strategies borrowed from genetic algorithms. The proposal is analyzed experimentally by simulation and compared with other methods previously proposed for the same problem. The results of the experimental study provided interesting insights about the problem and showed that the proposed algorithm is quite competitive with previous methods.

Their starter and other food selections would also raise recommendations. The table will be reserved along with a parking space on the appropriate time-slot so that users do not face inconvenience. Using this system as a building block, we can develop a smartphone-compactable software application

A common algorithm to solve the single-source shortest path (SSSP) is the Dijkstra algorithm. However, the traditional Dijkstra’s is not accurate and need more time to perform the path in order it should visit all the nodes in the graph. In this paper, the Dijkstra-ant colony algorithm (ACO) with binary search tree (BST) has been proposed. Dijkstra and ACO are integrated to produce the smart guidance algorithm for the indoor parking system. Dijkstra algorithm initials the paths to finding the shortest path while ACO optimizes the paths. BST has been used to store the paths that Dijkstra algorithm initialled. The proposed algorithm is aimed to control the shortest path as well as guide the driver towards the nearest vacant available space near the entrance. This solution depending on applying the optimization on an optimal path while the traditional ACO is optimizing the random path based on the greedy algorithm hence we get the most optimal path. Moreover, the reason behind using the BST is to make the generation of the path by Dijkstra’s algorithm more accurate and less time performance. The results show a range of 8.3% to 26.8% improvement in the proposed path compared to the traditional Dijkstra’s algorithm.

In this paper we consider the train unit shunting problem extended with service task scheduling. This problem originates from Dutch Railways, which is the main railway operator in the Netherlands. Its urgency stems from the upcoming expansion of the rolling stock fleet needed to handle the ever-increasing number of passengers. The problem consists of matching train units arriving on a shunting yard to departing trains, scheduling service tasks such as cleaning and maintenance on the available resources, and parking the trains on the available tracks such that the shunting yard can operate conflict-free. These different aspects lead to a computationally extremely difficult problem, which combines several well-known NP-hard problems. In this paper, we present the first solution method covering all aspects of the shunting and scheduling problem. We describe a partial order schedule representation that captures the full problem, and we present a local search algorithm that utilizes the partial ordering. The proposed solution method is compared with an existing mixed integer linear program in a computational study on realistic instances provided by Dutch Railways. We show that our local search algorithm is the first method to solve real-world problem instances of the complete shunting and scheduling problem. It even outperforms current algorithms when the train unit shunting problem is considered in isolation, that is, without service tasks. Although our method was developed for the case of the Dutch Railways, it is applicable to any shunting yard or service location, irrespective of its layout, that uses self-propelling train units and that does not have to handle passing trains.

The purpose of this study is to examine the potential of Syawalan tourism in the Tomb of Sunan Gunung Jati tourist attraction in the city of Cirebon. This type of research is qualitative research, data collection methods are observation, interviews, library research, and documentation. Source of data in this study are primary data that is obtained through interviews and observations in the field, and secondary data obtained by literature study. Data analysis in this research is descriptive qualitative data analysis. The results found that the tradition of Syawalan in the Tomb of Sunan Gunung Jati has the potential to become one of the leading tourism destinations in Cirebon. The tomb of Sunan Gunung Jati is the main attraction for pilgrims. The tomb of Sunan Gunung Jati becomes the center of Iwalan tradition activities, namely pilgrimage activities. The existence of supporting facilities has also become an advantage, such as inter-city-inter-provincial bus terminals, good road conditions. Parking facilities and restrooms are also almost available in several places so that it supports the comfort of visitors. Based on these results, the local government and the private sector can work together in developing the tradition of syawalan to be the leading tourism city of Cirebon. In addition to the management of tourist attractions can provide education to visitors to always maintain the cleanliness of the places visited.

Load transfer is an important way of restoring a power supply after equipment failure or maintenance. However, current methods ignore cooperation between networks and users, and they also fail to take into account the vehicle-to-grid (V2G) potential of electric vehicles (EVs). In this paper, a load transfer scheme between transmission and distribution networks is proposed, considering the mobile energy storage capacities of electric vehicles. First, the mobility characteristic and the available discharge capacity of EVs are analyzed on the basis of the parking generation rate. Then, the breadth-first algorithm is used to search the load transfer paths within and between stations, and an edge matching method is proposed to realize the conversion between networks with different voltage levels. Lastly, the optimal combination weighting method was adopted to combine subjective and objective index weights and to evaluate power supply paths. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is validated in a case composed of an IEEE 30-node network and an IEEE 57-node network, with four typical scenarios.

The search for invisible and clandestine burial places of victims of wars and totalitarian crimes is a very difficult task. Research and exhumation teams use various methods to help locate burial places. According to the experience of our team, one of the best sources of information about burials are archival and contemporary aerial photographs. During World War II, aerial photography became one of the most important tools for warfare reconnaissance. For this reason, huge numbers of aerial photographs are currently available, in which the victim’s burial sites have been accidentally recorded. Aerial photographs are often helpful not in the direct identification of graves, but in the reconstruction of topographies of individual objects within a defined period of time, and thus, indirectly, in the location of graves. The aim of the study was to demonstrate the usefulness of historical aerial, satellite and drone photographs in the process of searching for the remains of victims of armed conflicts and totalitarian crimes. The paper presents the experience gained in the course of research projects carried out.

Inclusive access has been considered essential and relevant for decades. However, this issue has been in demand in the past years, both in Europe and Ukraine. One of the popular means of providing inclusive access within the city is information systems that are friendly to people with disabilities. The theoretical basis of such systems is the smart city concept, which has been briskly developed recently. It contains the principles of accessibility of public places, institutions, and establishments for people with special needs. In this work, it is analyzed the well-known algorithms for building optimal routes and available information services and mobile applications that solve the problem of visualizing public places and institutions with inclusive access and paving optimal routes to them. Geocoding &ndash; the process of finding position based on descriptive data such as address or postal code - is considered as one of the most commonly used spatial analyses. Many online map providers such as Google Maps, Bing Maps and Yahoo Maps present geocoding as one of their basic capabilities. Despite the diversity of geocoding services, users usually face some limitations when they use available online geocoding services. In existing geocoding services, proximity and nearness concept is not modelled appropriately as well as these services search address only by address matching based on descriptive data. In addition there are also some limitations in display searching results. Resolving these limitations can enhance efficiency of the existing geocoding services. This paper proposes the idea of integrating fuzzy technique with geocoding process to resolve these limitations. In order to implement the proposed method, a web-based system is designed. In proposed method, nearness to places is defined by fuzzy membership functions and multiple fuzzy distance maps are created. Then these fuzzy distance maps are integrated using fuzzy overlay technique for obtain the results. Proposed methods provides different capabilities for users such as ability to search multi-part addresses, searching places based on their location, non-point representation of results as well as displaying search results based on their priority.

What audit tools are available to assess neighborhood suitability for aging in place? Drawing on theories from environmental gerontology, the article outlines physical and social environmental characteristics influencing aging. Eight research audit tools and three community/practitioner tools were identified using a Boolean search strategy. They emphasize walkability and the physical attributes of places. Areas for further development include addressing specific features related to aging, a wider range of environments, additional physical and social dimensions, and conducting audits using technologies and participatory processes to better incorporate aging experiences. For planners, these audit tools raise awareness of how environments can better support aging populations.

An efficient routing using a virtual backbone (VB) network is one of the most significant improvements in the wireless sensor network (WSN). One promising method for selecting this subset of network nodes is by finding the minimum connected dominating set (MCDS), where the searching space for finding a route is restricted to nodes in this MCDS. Thus, finding MCDS in a WSN provides a flexible low-cost solution for the problem of event monitoring, particularly in places with limited or dangerous access to humans as is the case for most WSN deployments. In this paper, we proposed an adaptive scatter search (ASS-MCDS) algorithm that finds the near-optimal solution to this problem. The proposed method invokes a composite fitness function that aims to maximize the solution coverness and connectivity and minimize its cardinality. Moreover, the ASS-MCDS methods modified the scatter search framework through new local search and solution update procedures that maintain the search objectives. We tested the performance of our proposed algorithm using different benchmark-test-graph sets available in the literature. Experiments results show that our proposed algorithm gave good results in terms of solution quality.

The proliferation of ridesourcing services has raised both hopes and concerns about their role in cities. The impacts of ridesourcing services are complex and multi-faceted. Through reviewing the literature, this study aims to identify the social, economic, and environmental impacts of these services and highlight opportunities and challenges that lay ahead of them for resolving issues related to urban transportation. According to the results, ridesourcing services offer safe modes of transport that provide convenient mobility options, improve transit availability in disadvantaged and remote areas, and respond to taxi demand fluctuations. They can create new job opportunities by employing new human resources that have not been used before, provide flexible working hours for drivers, and are more efficient than taxi cabs. These services provide other opportunities to extend or complement public transit, reduce car ownership and congestion, and minimize parking supply. However, they are criticized for unfair competition with traditional taxis, limited compliance with social legislation, and lack of affordability. They are not available in all places and exclude some vulnerable and socially disadvantaged groups. Labor rights are not secure in this industry, and driver income is not stable. Finally, there is also evidence showing that, in some cases, they contribute to the growth of VMT, energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, and congestion in cities.

This scholarly bibliography is a compendium of the existing geographical studies of the state of New Jersey. It includes seven sections: general works (atlases, books, monographs, articles, dissertations, and theses), cultural and social geography, economic geography, historical geography, physical and environmental geography, political geography, and urban geography. The search for these entries started with an examination of the contents of the available scholarly journals that publish works on geography. Then, lists of references were examined to search for other journals that these authors published works in. Also found were the main atlases, books, texts, and monographs related to some aspect of New Jersey’s geographical studies. These authors were also located as to their work places, and if available their vitae were searched. Additionally, WorldCat was searched for New Jersey geography topics. Each section is organized in a simple alphabetical sequence, by author’s last name. Where there is more than one entry per author, the earliest is listed first, and subsequent entries listed chronologically after the first. In the case of single versus multiple authors, the entries with single authors are recorded first, and multiple entries after these. The dates of entries reach back into the nineteenth century, and continue to the present. Most entries are written in English, but works written in other languages were recorded as found.

Research on the management model of the sacred area of ​​the Masceti temple as a spiritual tourism destination aims to identify the potential for tourism in the sacred area of ​​the Masceti temple to be developed into a spiritual tourism destination based on local wisdom, explore and study community attitudes, and formulate strategies for developing the sacred area of ​​the Masceti temple as a spiritual tourism destination. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with data collection methods through observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation. The results showed that the sacred area of ​​Masceti temple has the potential for spiritual, cultural and natural tourism. Supporting facilities such as road access and additional services available in the area are included in the good category. The community's perceptions and attitudes agree with the development of the management of the sacred area of ​​the Masceti temple as a spiritual tourism destination based on local wisdom. Based on the I-E matrix, it is shown that the sacred area of ​​the Masceti temple has strong internal and external conditions. The strategy in accordance with these conditions is a growth strategy. The SWOT analysis resulted in the following alternatives a) finalizing the planning of the arrangement of the Masceti temple sacred area and implementing sustainable arrangement, b) arranging the place for selling souvenirs, culinary delights and arranging the parking area, c) improving supporting facilities and infrastructure such as toilets, landfills, yoga places, meditation, holy bathing and construction of Hindu dormitories

Smart cities still need the appropriate tools for allowing researchers to contribute in this growing field that will change the comfort and qualities of live of citizens. Smart cities can provide services such as informing of the less overcrowded tourist routes, path-finding for avoiding traffic jams, search services for parking, collecting tree branches from streets, and the finding of the nearest available public electric bicycles or cars. The levels of urgencies differ from some situations to others. Examples of urgent matters are the fast transportation critical patients and the removal of obstacles in main roads. Since smart cities are meant to manage huge amounts of requests, priorities should be automated and managed in a flexible way for new scenarios. Smart cities may need citizens to report the service priorities. However, citizens may have different criteria and could abuse the highest priority levels hindering the service performance for really urgent matters. A novel agent-based simulation open-source framework is proposed for testing different policies for normalizing and controlling self-reported priorities, with its simulator called ABS-SmartPriority. This approach is illustrated by simulating two different policies, in which the smart policy outperformed the one used as the control mechanism.

First on the list of search results is The Atlas of Canada. He quickly selects this and arrives at the home page of the Atlas. He sees that he can search for a place and he does so for Victoria. He finds there are many places named Victoria in Canada and is able to find the one in British Columbia for which he is looking. He then sees that he can link from the location map to combine themes with the place. The thematic material includes all the types of information he is required to put into his project. Not only can he see the maps, which he decides to use as the basis for his project, but also the background data used to make the map. He notices an audio button that he clicks on to get a description of the map and a video button, which brings up an interesting video clip. He then finds that a full description is available that also provides links to other sites that may be of interest. Everything he needs is in this one great Web site. From now on, The Atlas of Canada is where he will start all his assignments.

This study presents findings from a user-based evaluation of the use of Pakistani university's library websites. A questionnaire [printed and electronic] was used to collect the data from 17 universities. A purposive sample of 60 users from each university based on their academic role difference [faculty, researchers, graduates and undergraduates] was drawn. The findings of the study show that use of university library websites in Pakistan was satisfactory. Patrons who frequently used the Internet and library were found as frequent users of the library websites. University websites were found to be vital sources of awareness about the presence of the library websites and computers physically available at the university libraries were the significant places to use the library websites. Regarding users' academic role difference, faculty connected to the library websites from departments/faculties, while researchers and students preferred to use them from university libraries. The library websites were mainly used to find course related materials or search in online public access catalogue (OPAC). However, on the basis of users' academic role difference, faculty used the library websites to search in Higher Education Commission (HEC) Digital Library offering international scholarly literature; researchers accessed them to search in OPAC, while students preferred them to find course-related materials. The study recommends creating dynamic websites in all university libraries of Pakistan with useful content and state-of-the-art services for wider use

Abstract. Understanding syntactic and semantic structure of geographic questions is a necessary step towards true geographic question-answering (GeoQA) machines. The empirical basis for the understanding of the capabilities expected from GeoQA systems are geographic question corpora. Available corpora in English have been mostly drawn from generic Web search logs or limited user studies, supporting the focus of GeoQA systems on retrieving factoids: factual knowledge about particular places and everyday processes. Yet, the majority of questions enquired about in the spatial sciences go beyond simple place facts, with more complex analytical intents informing the questions. In this paper, we introduce a new corpus of geo-analytic questions drawn from English textbooks and scientific articles. We analyse and compare this corpus with two general-purpose GeoQA corpora in terms of grammatical complexity and semantic concepts, using a new parsing method that allows us to differentiate and quantify patterns of a question’s intent.

Abstract Due to the increasing amount of publicly available protein structures searching, enriching and investigating these data still poses a challenging task. The ProteinsPlus web service (https://proteins.plus) offers a broad range of tools addressing these challenges. The web interface to the tool collection focusing on protein–ligand interactions has been geared towards easy and intuitive access to a large variety of functionality for life scientists. Since our last publication, the ProteinsPlus web service has been extended by additional services as well as it has undergone substantial infrastructural improvements. A keyword search functionality was added on the start page of ProteinsPlus enabling users to work on structures without knowing their PDB code. The tool collection has been augmented by three tools: StructureProfiler validates ligands and active sites using selection criteria of well-established protein–ligand benchmark data sets, WarPP places water molecules in the ligand binding sites of a protein, and METALizer calculates, predicts and scores coordination geometries of metal ions based on surrounding complex atoms. Additionally, all tools provided by ProteinsPlus are available through a REST service enabling the automated integration in structure processing and modeling pipelines.

In the wireless power transmission (WPT) to electric vehicles (EVs) in parking lots, there is a risk of abnormal heat generation due to the absorption of the magnetic field in metallic foreign objects. Accordingly, currently available products are equipped with a function that automatically halts power transmission when a metallic foreign object is detected. However, if possible, continuing power transmission while suppressing the magnetic field absorption may be an another solution. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel function which enables wireless power transmission with high efficiency while suppressing the magnetic field absorption of metallic foreign objects. In this study, it was assumed that a metallic foreign body was present in an arbitrary point in a two-dimensional plane and the power transmission was conducted by the phased array WPT. An algorithm using particle swarm optimization (PSO) to search for the optimal combination of the phase and amplitude of the coil input voltages together with coil arrangements, in terms of both magnetic field suppression and transmission efficiency, is proposed. The simulation was performed with the lower efficiency boundary set as 85% and the load power set as 11 kW, in reference to the SAE J2954 standard. As a result, it was confirmed that the magnetic field suppression effect increased in accordance with the increase in the number of transmission (Tx) coils, thus indicating the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 advocates the need for inclusive and equitable quality education, which will promote life-long learning opportunities for all. Globally, however, the demand for access to higher education exceeds the places which are available, resulting in many students who cannot obtain places in institutions and in their respective programmes of choice.A case study research method was utilized, using a private higher education institution (HEI), referred to here as “Institution Y”. The empirical part of the search focused on engaging in dialogue with some of the directors based on their experience by retrieving information around the internationalisation of private higher education.South Africa, in its quest to be the preferred destination of choice to study and research, has to discover a working basis that is universal in its application. Arguments influencing inclusivity, equality and life-long learning focuses around conceptualisation, foot-printing and agility, surfaced in the study.The potential impact and influence of private HEIs on internationalisation of higher education can only be aligned with Goal 4 if re-conceptualisation, increasing the international footprint and agility, is driven aggressively for the greater good of the South African higher education.It is advocated, amongst other recommendations, that private and public higher educations be strengthened systemically in South Africa, so that it becomes the destination of choice for higher education to realise Sustainable Development Goal 4.
