Анотація:
Recent technical improvements and cost reductions in electromagnetic motion tracking systems invite their application to motion axis determination in the surgical setting. After evaluation of the accuracy of a state-of-the-art D. C. electromagnetic tracking system, which generates complete three-dimensional kinematic outputs from just a single receiver, we calculated screw displacement axes (SDA’s) from its source data. The accuracy of SDA determination from such source data was evaluated for various rotational increment sizes around a revolute joint. A novel smoothing procedure, customized for this type of source data, was developed, enabling SDA detection from incremental rotations of less than 1 deg, at an accuracy appropriate for intra-operative measurement of human joint motion. Examples of SDA determination are given for motion tracking of a ball joint and of the elbow articulation.

Prior work on abiogenesis, the emergence of life from non-life, suggests that it requires chemical reaction networks that contain self-amplifying motifs, namely, autocatalytic cores. However, little is known about how the presence of multiple autocatalytic cores might allow for the gradual accretion of complexity on the path to life. To explore this problem, we develop the concept of a seed-dependent autocatalytic system (SDAS), which is a subnetwork that can autocatalytically self-maintain given a flux of food, but cannot be initiated by food alone. Rather, initiation of SDASs requires the transient introduction of chemical “seeds”. We show that, depending on the topological relationship of SDASs in a chemical reaction network, a food-driven system can accrete complexity in a historically contingent manner, governed by rare seeding events. We develop new algorithms for detecting and analyzing SDASs in chemical reaction databases and describe parallels between multi-SDAS networks and biological ecosystems. Applying our algorithms to both an abiotic reaction network and a biochemical one, each driven by a set of simple food chemicals, we detect SDASs that are organized as trophic tiers, of which the higher tier can be seeded by relatively simple chemicals if the lower tier is already activated. This indicates that sequential activation of trophically organized SDASs by seed chemicals that are not much more complex than what already exist could be a mechanism of gradual complexification from relatively simple abiotic reactions to more complex life-like systems. Interestingly, in both reaction networks, higher-tier SDASs include chemicals that might alter emergent features of chemical systems and could serve as early targets of selection. Our analysis provides computational tools for analyzing very large chemical/biochemical reaction networks and suggests new approaches to studying abiogenesis in the lab.

Анотація:
The study of the nature of the church1 is very significant to the body of Christ. Often, when this subject is introduced, Christians tend to ask: which is the true church and how can it be identified? Most churches claim to be the only ‘true church’ based on their teachings and this has continued to divide the body of Christ across the centuries. The Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church has maintained the physical observance of the Sabbath to be one of the marks2 of identifying the ‘true church,’ yet the church fathers described the church as One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic. The SDA uses the Sabbath worship as a mark of identifying a ‘true church’ alongside the four attributes; and on the other hand, those churches that do not worship on Saturday regards the SDA’s emphasis of worshipping on Saturday as ‘worshipping the day’ rather than the almighty God. Besides this, misunderstandings have been encountered between the SDA and the so-called Sunday churches concerning the issue of what constitutes the true Sabbath. The study employs the dialogical-ecclesiological design in its bid to understand the contestations between the SDA and the ‘Sunday churches’ and in its building on the premise that dialogue is critical in our endeavor to find a new understanding and re-interpretation of the Sabbath, as one of the marks of a true church. The crucial question remains: can the observance of physical Sabbath be considered as one of the key marks of knowing the ‘true Church’?

Utilizing sawdust efficiently to produce construction materials can help safeguard the environment and decrease costs by minimizing the need for traditional resources and reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Additionally, recycling sawdust plays an essential role in creating a sustainable ecosystem. Hence, this study aimed to examine the potential use of sawdust ash (SDA) as a partial cement replacement on foamed mortar (FM) properties, including its fresh, mechanical, transport, thermal, and microstructural properties. A variety of FM mixtures were tested for workability, density, consistency, intrinsic air permeability, porosity, split tensile strength, compressive strength, flexural strength, and thermal conductivity by replacing cement with SDA at varying percentages of 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50%. The results revealed that FM’s workability was reduced by the introduction of SDA with a higher percentage cement replacement, while the density of the FM mixtures was reduced due to SDA’s specific gravity being lower than that of cement. A linear improvement was observed in the air permeability, sorptivity, and porosity of FM–SDA composites with an increased SDA percentage to 20%. It is notable that these properties started to deteriorate once the cement replacement by SDA surpassed 30%. A noticeable improvement of mechanical strength properties of the FM was found at 20% of SDA content, but they deteriorated when the SDA content was more than 30%. FM blends with higher SDA contents exhibited larger and more apparent voids, according to SEM analysis. In conclusion, incorporating sawdust into formulations emerges as a viable method for FM production. This approach not only mitigates the environmental impact of sawdust disposal but also reduces the need for extracting natural resources in construction material manufacturing.

The physical and mechanical properties of an entirely (wrought alloys) or partly (cast alloys) dendritically solidified alloy strongly depend on the secondary dendrite arm spacing (SDAS). The casting practice and the simulation of solidification need a usable but simple method to calculate the SDAS during and at the end of solidification as a function of the cooling rate. Based on many solidification experiments, a simple equation to calculate the SDAS (empirical method) is known to use the local solidification time, which can be obtained from the measured cooling curves (equiaxed solidification), or can be calculated from the temperature gradient and front velocity (directional solidification). This equation is not usable for calculating the SDAS during solidification. Kirkwood developed a semi-empirical method based on the liquid phase’s diffusion, which contains only one geometric factor that seems constant for different alloys. This equation contains some physical parameters that depend on the temperature, so the equation cannot be integral in closed form. In the present work, first, we show the effect of the curvature of the solid/liquid interface on the equilibrium concentrations and then the different processes of SDA coarsening. In our earlier paper, we demonstrated that using the empirical method, the final SDAS can be calculated with acceptable correctness in the case of four unidirectional solidification experiments of Al-7wt%Si alloy. The present work shows that numerically integrated Kirkwood’s equations used the known cooling curve; the SDAS can be calculated at the end and during solidification in good agreement with these experimental results. Compared to the two calculation methods, we stated that the correctness of the methods is similar. Still, the results of the solidification simulation (the microsegregation) will be more correct using the dynamical method. It is also shown that with the dynamical method, the SDAS can be calculated from any type of cooling curve, and using the dynamical method, it is proved that some different SDASs could belong to the same local solidification time.

Since dispersion enactment in Indonesia, two third of citizen well being and prosperity are depend on the performance of Local Government, from environment sanitation, such as waste management, to education quality and health services. It all depends on the quality of Local Government public services. SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) is (a) a new development agreement, substitution for MDGs. This agreement effective since 2015 until 2030; (b) a 35 pages document that have been approved by 190 country; (c) contain 17 goals, and 169 development target. SDGs procedure processes are based on inspiration and aspiration of Local Government. Through city association and Local Government in large-scale level, Local Government has been actively participating in SDGs formulation and validation. Therefore to Local Government, the capital and kabupaten government role are important for SDGs. Because there are some facts and validation that justify that. Few of SDGs focus become development underlying principle that consistent with nine main concern programme known as Nawacita, such as human development, education and social welfare, sustainable economics, energy and climate change. SDGs are prolongation from MDGs targets, especially in derivation of mother mortality, derivation of child mortality, derivation of AIDS/HIV, water supply and sanitation coverage. The four unfinished target, cannot be forgotten and neglected, because the targets are also align with some of SDGs goals and target. These are some of the things that Local Government can perform: Action plan, execution committee, institutional, funding, accountability mechanism, and socialization. In the end, Local Government be able to design an accurate and rapid policy thus for impartial Indonesia, a better citizen well being. And also to urge a better government effort to precede with SDGs agenda and utilize civilian to strengthen all the advocacy effort that have been done.

Small therapeutic proteins are receiving increased interest as therapeutic drugs; however, their clinical success has been limited due to their rapid elimination. Here, we report a half-life extension strategy via strategy via red blood cell red blood cell (RBC) hitch-hiking. This manuscript details the development and characterization of novel anti-RBC single-domain antibodies (sdAbs), their genetic fusion to therapeutic antibody fragments (TAF) as bispecific fusion constructs, and their influence on TAF pharmacokinetics and biodistribution. Several sdAbs specific to the band 3 antigen were generated via phage-display technology. Binding affinity to RBCs was assessed via flow cytometry. Affinity maturation via random mutagenesis was carried out to improve the binding affinity of the sdAbs. Bi-specific constructs were generated by fusing the anti-RBC sdAbs with anti-tissue necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) TAF via the use of a glycine-serine flexible linker, and assessments for binding were performed via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and flow cytometry. Pharmacokinetics of anti-RBC sdAbs and fusion constructs were evaluated following intravenous bolus dosing in mice at a 1 mg/kg dose. Two RBC-binding sdAbs, RB12 and RE8, were developed. These two clones showed high binding affinity to human RBC with an estimated KD of 17.7 nM and 23.6 nM and low binding affinity to mouse RBC with an estimated KD of 335 nM and 528 nM for RB12 and RE8, respectively. Two derivative sdAbs, RMA1, and RMC1, with higher affinities against mouse RBC, were generated via affinity maturation (KD of 66.9 nM and 30.3 nM, respectively). Pharmacokinetic investigations in mice demonstrated prolonged circulation half-life of an anti-RBC-TNF-α bispecific construct (75 h) compared to a non-RBC binding control (1.3 h). In summary, the developed anti-RBC sdAbs and fusion constructs have demonstrated high affinity in vitro, and sufficient half-life extension in vivo.

Indonesian government's commitment to implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) agenda, particularly in West Sumatra. The government of West Sumatra supports the objectives and targets of achieving SDG’s by optimizing the implementation of SDG indicators in the Rencana Aksi Daerah (RAD) for SDG’s of West Sumatra Province for the years 2022-2026. However, in its execution, there is a need for annual monitoring and evaluation of the RAD for SDG’s in West Sumatra Province. Clustering is employed to serve as a consideration for evaluating the implementation of RAD for SDG’s in West Sumatra Province for the years 2022-2026. The clustering method used is Self Organizing Map (SOM), an effective tool for visualizing high-dimensional data and can be used to map high-dimensional data into one, two, or three dimensions, representing connected units or neurons. The data used consist of 14 SDG indicator variables across 19 regencies/cities in West Sumatra in the year 2022, sourced from the official website and publications of the Badan Pusat Statistika (BPS) of West Sumatra Province. The analysis results in the formation of 3 clusters with different characteristics, which can be used as references in making policy decisions and effective strategies to enhance the implementation performance of SDG’s programs in West Sumatra Province.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui model pengelolaan Dana Desa yang dilakukan oleh pemerintah Desa Rongdalem dalam dalam mewujudkan pembangunan desa yang berkelanjutan berbasis SDG’s Desa, serta hasil yang telah dicapai dari rencana strategi yang telah dilakukan tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Tekhnik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan yaitu wawancara, studi dokumentasi, dan observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengelolaan dana desa yang diterapkan sudah cukup baik dan terarah sesuai dengan hasil capaian SDG’s Desa. terdapat beberapa masalah dalam pengelolaan Dana Desa dalam mewujudkan pembangunan berkelanjutan berbasis SDG’s Desa yaitu sosialisasi yang dilakukan pemerintah desa belum menyentuh masyarakat awam, sehingga masih ada beberapa masyarakat yang belum paham mengenai program SDG’s Desa. Kesimpulannya implementasi pengelolaan dana desa dalam mewujudkan pembangunan berkelanjutan berasis SDG’s Desa dengan tujuan untuk mengatasi kemiskinan dengan ekonomi yang tumbuh merata yang dilakukan oleh pemerintah Desa Rongdalem Kecamatan Omben Kabupaten Sampang sudah menunjukkan hasil yang cukup baik karena sudah terarah dan tepat sasaran. Les zéolites sont des matériaux poreux cristallins uniformesformés d'unités TO4 partageant un sommet (T = Si, Al, Ge, etc.). Ils sont préparés sous des conditions hydrothermales, en mélangeant un agent directeur de structure (SDA) approprié avec un gel contenant des composants inorganiques tels que la silice, l'alumine ou le germanium. À un pH et une température spécifiques, le SDA induit la nucléation et la croissance cristalline pour obtenir des zéolites de taille, de forme et de dimension spécifiques. Les zéolites à pores de taille extra-large avec une ouverture de pore supérieure à 0,75 nm suscitent un intérêt croissant de la part des chercheurs en raison de leur activité prometteuse dans le traitement de molécules plus volumineuses, de l'amélioration de la vitesse de diffusion, de la prolongation de la durée de vie du catalyseur et du changement de la sélectivité du produit.Notre objectif est de préparer des SDA avec des substitutions alkyliques différentes en suivant une approche d'expansion de taille, en synthétisant des sels d'ammonium contenant une ou deux entités alcyne. De plus, des sels d'ammonium à base d'imidazole, d'hexaméthylénétanétramine et de composés de 4-phénylpyrridine - ainsi que des voies de synthèse pour la préparation de sels d'ammonium à base de [2.2] paracyclophane en utilisant la réaction de King ont été explorées. En outre, des sels organiques à base de phosphore ont été synthétisés. Zeolites are uniformly crystalline porous materials formed of a vertex sharing TO4 units (T= Si, Al, Ge, etc.). They are prepared under hydrothermal conditions, by mixing a suitable structure directing agent (SDA) with a gel containing inorganic components such as silica, alumina or germanium. At specific pH and temperature, the SDA induces nucleation, seed formation and crystal growth to obtain zeolites with specific size, shape and dimension. Extra-large pore size zeolites with pore aperture larger than 0.75 nm aroused increasing interest from researchers due to their promising activity in processing bulkier molecules, improving diffusion rate, prolonging the catalyst lifetime and changing product selectivity. Our goal is to prepare SDA’s having different alkyl substituents following size expansion approach, by synthesizing ammonium salts containing either one or two alkyne moieties. Furthermore, ammonium salts based on imidazole, hexamethyl-enetetramine and 4-phenylpyridine compounds – as well as synthetic paths for the preparation of [2.2] paracyclophane based ammonium salts using King’s reaction were explored. Additionally, organic salts based on phosphorous were synthesized. Preparation, purification and preliminary results of their use as SDAs in zeolite synthesis will be shown in this thesis

In the past few years the demand for light weight compact automotive antennas in the customersdesired mounting position has brought a challenge for the automotive antenna developers. Due to thehigh demands for the accuracy and compactness it became very difficult to develop antenna elementswhich fulfil all the strict requirements. Integrated SDARS (Satellite Digital Audio Radio Service)antenna element is one of such tasks which require strong gain requirements at particular elevationangles for the best reception of the satellite signals along with the car manufacturer’s desired mountingpositions.To achieve the desired objectives for SDARS element, different antenna designs were proposed andtested during the project work. Finally a newly developed two port cylindrical dielectric resonatorantenna (DRA) with a parasitic element is presented due to its high performance, simplicity andcompactness. The newly developed DRA antenna fulfils the strict SiriusXm gain requirements for thechallenging mounting position in the car. The SDARS antenna element is simulated using CSTMicrowave Studio and verified by prototype measurements. The developed DRA antenna element hasa broad beam with a peak gain more than 6dBi at the null position. An axial ratio of less than 3dB isachieved at the peak gain position. Real time 3D far field measurements are taken by using the MiDAS4.1 system which verifies the simulated results of the developed integrated SDARS antenna. A goodagreement is achieved between the simulated and measured results.

Such catastrophic losses for the defeated and grandiose achievements for the victors have defined and described our world for so long with the cost of countless lives of the innocent, yet even today, when sovereignty has undeniably become one of the most frequently used terms in public discourse on international political events, it is surprisingly difficult to ascertain exactly when the sovereignty of the state gets violated or even should be violated.

Effects of pore, secondary dendrite arm spacings (SDAS ), hot isostatic pressing (Hipping), and strontium-modification on fatigue behavior were studied in an aluminum casting alloy (A356.2). Microstructures were revealed by X-ray radiography, light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Small-cracks were monitored by taking replicas of the surfaces with which the cracks intersected. As the SDAS increases from 15 to 55 μm, fatigue life decreases by a factor of 3 in low-cycle fatigue, and 100 in high-cycle fatigue. When SDAS is less than 30 mum, the pore size is below a critical size of ∼80 μm and large eutectic constituents initiate cracks; and the initiation life is as high as 70% of the fatigue life. As the SDAS increases beyond 30 μm, pores are the main crack-initiation sites; the initiation life is as low as 5% of the fatigue life. Near-surface oxides initiate the fatigue crack regardless of SDAS. When crack initiated at pore and oxides, fatigue life is well correlated with the size of the initiation site and the effect of SDAS is overshadowed by the effect of pore. Non-hipped A356.2 without Sr shows better fatigue life and the deleterious effect of pores overshadowed the beneficial effect that Sr-modification might have had. Hipping significantly increased the initiation life and small-crack propagation life of A356.2 with Sr as a result of the elimination of the porosity. However, hipping did not significantly improve the fatigue life of A356.2 without Sr. After hipping, Sr-modification is beneficial in improving the crack initiation life, and increasing both small-crack and long-crack propagation lives. Fracture mechanics models (Newman-Raju, and Trantina-Barishpolsky models) yielded similar results on the crack-propagation rate against the effective stress-intensity factor range. In the micro-mechanics model, the theory of continuously distributed dislocations was applied to represent crack and crack-tip plastic zone, and the propagation rate was related to the length of the crack-tip plastic zone. When the grain size is used as the characteristic length of the microstructures, the model predicts the oscillations of the propagation rates and the predicted rates agreed reasonably well with those from experiments.

Ce travail a pour objectif d'étudier la tenue en fatigue de l'alliage de fonderie A356-T6 sous chargement multiaxial. Des essais en fatigue à 106 cycles ont été effectués pour deux rapports de chargements différents à Rσ = 0 et Rσ = -1. La première partie expérimentale est menée sur des éprouvettes issues d'une coulée en ‘V’ avec des défauts naturels de fonderie et des défauts artificiels avec une variation de la microstructure. Suite aux résultats expérimentaux, nous avons montré que la taille des défauts ainsi que la microstructure caractérisée par la SDAS, sont les principaux paramètres qui influencent la limite de fatigue de cet alliage. Par comparaison entre les résultats obtenus à Rσ = 0 et Rσ = -1, il s'avère que la contrainte moyenne joue un rôle primordial sur la sensibilité du matériau à la taille du défaut et à la SDAS. Dans la suite, des modifications ont été menées sur le critère de DSG qui consistent à introduire l’effet de la SDAS au niveau du critère. L’application de ce critère modifié dans un diagramme de Kitagawa pour les différents cas de chargement a montré que l’abattement de la limite de fatigue en fonction de la taille de défaut et de la SDAS est bien décrit. Dans la dernière partie un outil numérique a été développé permettant de simuler la limite de fatigue en partant du procédé de fonderie. Cette démarche est sous forme d’une chaîne de calcul numérique qui permet de simuler la taille de défaut et de la SDAS à partir du procédé de fonderie. Suite à cette simulation, le modèle est capable de prévoir la limite de fatigue en utilisant le critère de DSG modifié. La combinaison entre la loi de Weibull et le critère de DSG permet à la suite de la chaîne de simulation de prévoir ainsi la probabilité de rupture à chaque point de la structure. Nous avons proposé dans cette partie un moule qui permet d’élaborer des éprouvettes avec deux microstructures différentes. Dans cette étude, une deuxième campagne d’essais a été réalisée sur ces éprouvettes afin de valider la simulation numérique sur le moule proposé. Le modèle numérique prévoit raisonnablement bien les résultats expérimentaux obtenus
This study aims to investigate the fatigue behaviour of A356-T6 aluminum alloy. Experimental fatigue tests at 106 cycles have been performed for two loading ratios: Rσ = 0 and Rσ = -1. The first experimental investigation was conducted on specimens from a ‘V’ wedge casting with natural and artificial defects which provides a variation of the microstructure. Following the experimental results, we have shown that defects characterized by their size and the microstructure characterized by SDAS, are the main parameters that control the fatigue limit. By comparing the results obtained for both loading ratios, it appears that the mean stress has an effect on the sensitivity to the defect size effect and microstructure.The DSG criterion was modified to introduce the effect of SDAS. This improved DSG criterion has been employed to predict the Kitagawa diagram for multiaxial loading for different loading cases. The simulation of the modified DSG criterion showed that the reduction of the fatigue limit with the defect size and SDAS is well described. In the last part a numerical model was developed to perform a simulation of the fatigue limit starting from the casting process. Using this numerical model, we simulated the defect size and SDAS depending on the solidification time, eventually the fatigue limit issimulated using the improved DSG criterion. With combining between Weibull law and modified DSG,we predict the probability of failure at each point of the structure. We proposed in this part a mold which let to obtain samples with two different microstructures. In this study, a second fatigue tests was carried out on these samples to validate the numerical simulation on the proposed mold. It turns out that the numerical model provides reasonably well the obtained experimental results

The magnetic Fe–6.5 wt% Si powder was produced by gas atomization and its microstructure was also investigated. The secondary dendritic arm spacing (SDAS) is related to the droplet size, λ = 0.29 · D⁰·⁵, and the numerical solidification model was applied to the system, giving rise to the correlation of microstructure to the solidification process of the droplet. It is found that the solid fraction at the end of recalescence is strongly dependent on the undercooling achieved before nucleation; the chances for the smaller droplets to form the grain-refined microstructures are less than the larger ones. Furthermore, the SDAS is strongly influenced by the cooling rate of post-recalescence solidification, and the relationship can be expressed as follows, λ = 74.2 · (T)⁻⁰·³⁴⁷. Then, the growth of the SDAS is driven by the solute diffusion of the interdendritic liquids, leading to a coarsening phenomenon, shown in a cubic root law of local solidification time, λ = 10.73 · (tf)⁰·²⁹⁶.

In recent years, research on the design and performance evaluation of suboptimal receiver implementations has received considerable attention owing to complexity in the realization of the optimal receiver algorithms over wireless channels. This thesis addresses the effects of using reduced complexity receivers for the Satellite Digital Audio Radio (SDAR), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and UltraWideband (UWB) communications technologies. A graphical-user-interface simulation tool has been developed to predict the link reliability performance of the SDAR services in the continental United States. Feasibility study of receiving both satellite and terrestrial repeater signals using a selection diversity (single antenna) receiver has also been performed. The thesis also develops a general mathematical framework for studying the efficacy of a sub-optimal generalized selection combining (GSC) diversity receiver over generalized fading channel models. The GSC receiver adaptively combines a subset of M diversity paths with the highest instantaneous signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) out of the total L available diversity paths. The analytical framework is applicable for rake receiver designs in CDMA and UWB communications.

Aluminum alloys are widely used in many manufacturing areas due to good castability, lightness and mechanical properties. The purpose of this research is to investigate copper’s influence on an Al-Si-Mg alloy (A356). Copper in the range of 0.6 – 1.6 wt. % has been used in an A356 aluminum based alloy. In this work a simulation of three different casting processes, sand-, die- and high pressure die-casting has been employed with the help of gradient solidification equipment. The microstructure of the samples has been studied by optical and scanning electron microscopy. Materials in both as-cast and heat treated states have been investigated through tensile test bars  to get the mechanical properties of the different conditions.

 

Questions that have been subjected to answer are what influence does copper have on the plastic deformation and on fracture behavior and whether there is a relationship between the content of copper and increased porosity or not; and in that case explore this relationship  between the amount of copper and the mechanical behaviour.

 

It has been analyzed that a peak of mechanical properties is obtained with a content about 1.6 wt. % copper. The increment of copper seems to have a remarkable impact on the mechanical properties and especially after the aging process showing a large raise on the ultimate tensile strength and yield strength.

Relationship between the copper content and increased porosity could not be found.

This essay advances a morality of defensive harm, which I call “Rule-SD.” Rule-SD resolves in a new way two types of difficult cases. It entails that if certain conditions are met, a defender has the right to kill a man who is innocently falling on her, if this is necessary for her survival. Moreover, Rule-SD yields the “free competition resolution” in some symmetrical cases; it implies that two people who innocently threaten each other might have a right to kill each other if necessary for their survival. Rule-SD’s core claim is that a defender’s right of self-defense might arise from a “pre-emptive rule” rather than from facts about the liability of the attacker. In those cases, the defender is subject to a rule that permits self-preference.

AbstractThe structural properties of cast aluminum parts are strongly affected by the solidification in the production process. The solidification dynamics determines the Secondary Dendrite Arm Spacing (SDAS), directly affecting the structural strength of the alloy. Simulation techniques enable the integrated design of chassis parts and their production equipment. However, in order to effectively predict the SDAS formation, the simulation models need to be investigated and calibrated. The present research investigates the SDAS formation models and identifies a robust relation to be used in Design by Simulation phases for AlSi7Mg0.3 parts.

Alloy wheel is one of the critical chassis components manufactured using the casting process. Secondary Dendrite Arm Spacing (SDAS) is one of the important microstructural parameters generated during the solidification stage of the casting process. SDAS has a significant role in altering the mechanical properties and the behavior of the component. Variation in solidification time and alloy composition will have a major impact in SDAS. The combined effect of SDAS with microstructural variations and the strength behavior has not been studied in earlier literature for an alloy wheel.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">The scope of this study is to perform casting simulation for an alloy wheel, predict the SDAS and capture the variation of mechanical properties (yield strength, ultimate tensile strength &amp; elongation). Further a few casting simulations were carried out by changing the solidification time and alloy composition to predict the variation of SDAS and its relationship with mechanical properties. The effect of SDAS on strength behavior of the wheel is studied by wheel simulation and correlated with test results.</div></div>

This paper describes the relation between the Secondary Dendrite Arm Spacing (SDAS), Area of Mushy Zone with the Continuous Casting variables in low carbon steels during the solidification process in the mold zone. A Finite Element analysis of the heat flow equation, coupled with the solute distribution model and the dendrite growth model, enables the determination of the Secondary Dendrite Arm Spacing (SDAS). The CONBCAST.FOR program is developed in this work to analyze effects of process variables on the Secondary Dendrite Arm Spacing (SDAS), Area of Mushy Zone and Volume of the Bleed. Effort is also made to find the optimum casting parameters. A new concept is introduced in this work to analyze the relation between the Area of Mushy Zone and Secondary Dendrite Arm Spacing (SDAS) with the Volume of the Bleed. Quantitative work is performed by collecting the square shaped billets at two different process conditions and determined the Secondary Dendrite Arm Spacing and Volume of Bleed to analyze the relationship between SDAS, Area of Mushy zone and Volume of Bleed.

This two-part paper is directed at the development of a machining force model that addresses key microstructural features of 319 Aluminum. In Part 1 of this paper, a machining force model is presented that incorporates microstructural effects. Secondary Dendrite Arm Spacing (SDAS) is identified as a significant microstructure feature of 319 aluminum in terms of machinability, and the SDAS is related to the solidification rate. A new material constitutive relationship that incorporates SDAS microstructure effects is proposed. In Part 2 of this paper, the results from material tests and machining experiments are presented. A new methodology for estimating parameters within the material constitutive model is described, and force model predictions are compared with the results from machining tests. The comparison reveals an excellent agreement between measured and predicted forces.
