This paper aims to analyze the effect of scientific findings on the interpretation of the Qur'an. As the greatest miracle of the prophet Muhammad PBUH, the miracles of the Qur'an are not limited to a certain time and form or type. As divine words, there can be no conflict between true scientific facts and the revelation of Allah who is all-true. The interpretation of Salaf ulamâ’ is not infallible, preserved from mistakes. Correcting their views does not mean demeaning or insulting their position. The scientific discoveries put forward by the experts today are still potentially wrong in the future, therefore the interpretation of the Qur'an with scientific discoveries should not be forced. There are six effects of scientific findings that have had on the interpretation of the Qur'an; (a) the scientific findings corroborate one of the opinions put forward by ulamâ and clarify it, (b) scientific discoveries explain in more detail the opinion of one interpretation, (c) scientific discoveries provide some new interpretations, and the new interpretation is the more stronger, (d) scientific discoveries provide some new interpretations in addition to the other existing interpretations, where existing interpretations do not mutually interpret. This new interpretation did not become diligent, (e) scientific discoveries provide a new interpretation, but the interpretation is not stronger than the other existing interpretations, so, it becomes a distorted interpretation, and (f) scientific discoveries provide some new interpretations, and these new interpretations can be used as a basis for weakening and rejecting existing interpretations.

The specific languages referred to in this presentation are: scientific language, mathematical language, theological language and philosophical language. Cosmological, scientific or theological models understood as distinct interpretations of a common symbolic language do not ensure, by such a common basis, a possible or legitimate correspondence of certain units of meaning. Mathematics understood as a symbolic language used in scientific and theological interpretation does not bridge between science and theology. Instead, it only allows the assertion of a rational-mathematical unity in expression. In this perspective, theology is nothing less rational than science. The activity of interpretation has an interdisciplinary character, it is a necessary condition of dialogue. We cannot speak about dialogue without communication between various fields, without passing from one specialized language to another specialized language. The present paper proposes to suggest this aspect.

This paper elaborates on Dawam Raharjo's interpretational thoughts and works. Dawam Raharjo's research on the interpretation of the Qur'an is unique. Even Dawam offers a novel perspective on the variety of interpretations by proposing that the interpretation can be approached from a variety of scientific perspectives. Dawam offers a new perspective in the diversity of interpretations, that interpretations can be approached with various scientific backgrounds. There are two things that are the focus of this essay, namely how the character and form of Dawam Raharjo, and how the style, method and science of interpretation of Dawam Raharjo. This paper is a literary study, the focus is on the study of interpreters with a descriptive-analytical approach. The result is that Dawam Raharjo's interpretation uses the thematic method. His interpretation includes twenty-seven socio religious themes. According to him, the Qur'an has a social-societal dimension; consequently, its interpretation tends to be social based on this premise. In addition to emphasizing the social dimension of the interpretations, the themes of the interpretations also emphasize the themes of nationality and Indonesian-ness. The purpose of this study is to explore Scientific Interpretation as a style of interpretation that uses a scientific approach in understanding the verses of the Qur'an. The method used in this research is qualitative through literature study using historical and scientific approaches. The results and discussion of this research include, the history of the development of scientific interpretation, limitations, opinions of scholars and the book of scientific interpretation. This study concludes that Scientific Interpretation is a part of the discourse on Al-Qur'an studies and interpretations whose existence cannot be avoided. There are differences of opinion among scholars regarding Scientific Interpretation, some accept and reject the presence of this interpretation. The presence of Scientific Interpretation adds to the scientific treasures of Qur'anic interpretation, especially in developing the principle of harmony between the Qur'an and science. One product that is an example of constructive and solutive ideas from Tafsir Ilmi is the birth of the book Tafsir Al-Kasyaf in the classical era and the Interpretation of the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia in the modern-contemporary era. The weakness of this study is that it only explains topics related to Scientific Interpretation without explaining specifically the aspects of the text of the commentary product. Then, this study also recommends that we can study more deeply about the epistemology of Scientific Interpretation.

The article takes under consideration three versions of the ensemble (statistical) interpretation of quantum mechanics and discusses the interconnection of these interpretations with the philosophy of science. To emphasize the specifics of the problem of interpretation of quantum mechanics in the USSR, the Marxist ideology is taken into account. The present paper continues the author’s previous analysis of ensemble interpretations which emerged in the USA and USSR in the first half of the 20th century. The author emphasizes that the ensemble approach turned out to be a dead end for the development of the interpretation of quantum mechanics in Russia. The article also argues that in Soviet Russia, the classical Copenhagen (standard) approach to quantum mechanics was used. The Copenhagen approach was developed by Lev Landau in 1919–1931 and became the basis of the Landau-Lifshitz famous course on quantum mechanics, one of the classics of twentieth-century physics literature (the first edition was published in 1947). Although Vladimir A. Fock’s approach to the interpretation of quantum mechanics differs from the standard presentation by Lev Landau and Evgeny Lifshitz, Fock put forward a very important principle that complementarity is a “firmly established law of nature”. The fundamental writings of Lev Landau, Vladimir Fock and Igor Tamm, the authors of the mid-twentieth century, did a lot to defend the standard point of view such as the popular interpretations by Landau and Lifshitz. This approach can be traced back to Landau’s early writings and to Fock’s criticism of the ensemble approach.

Today, commentators use scientific interpretation to investigate various types of knowledge presented by the Qur’an, such as some modern commentators combine scientific studies of fruits cited in the Qur’an with their medicinal properties, such as olives (Olea Europea). According to Al-Baqi, there are at least 7 (seven) verses that mention ‘Zaitūn’ (olives), which are spread across seven different letters. The purpose of this article is to dissect the anatomy of classical and scientific interpretations of the olive fruit in the Qur'an. In the scope of library research, this study employed a thematic method that refers to the literature on commentary books, scientific miracles books of the Qur’an about fruits, and articles in reputable journals. According to the findings of this study, olives are known as the name of a blessed fruit that has advantages over other fruits in several interpretations of the Qur'an. There are various interpretations of the word ‘Zaitūn’; some argue that it refers to the location where many figs and olives grow, namely Jerusalem, where Prophet Isa was born and received revelation. Whereas, scientific interpretation reveals that olives are effective as herbal medicines capable of treating a variety of diseases such as treating the digestive tract in general (particularly the liver), lowering the risk of high blood pressure, treating joint problems in both hands, and lowering the risk of cancer.

This paper attempts to show that scientific explanation relies not only on theoretical representation but also on scientific understanding. It introduces a distinction between ‘embodied' and ‘reflective' understanding and argues that both forms of understanding have an important role to play in the constitution of any scientific practise. Other significant features of a scientific practice are the act of explanation and interpretation. Thus, the paper claims that scientists' ability to produce scientific explanations and interpretations rests on both representational and non-representational knowledge.

This article examines the scientific interpretations in the book Tapsèr Sorat Yaa-siin (Bhāsa Madhurā) by Muhammad Ershad. The presence of this Madurese interpretation has complemented a series of Nusantara’s Qur’anic exegesis which has a tendency towards scientific nuances. Therefore, it is important to study the Qur’anic exegesis of cultural observers as a form of safeguarding one of the treasures of Qur’anic exegesis works in Indonesia, especially those with local languages. This study will only focus on scientific interpretations that are astronomical. This study find out, the astronomical interpretations of the Tapsèr Sorat Yaa-siin (Bhāsa Madhurā) has four broad themes; the solar system, the sun's dimming process, the creation of the universe, and the solar and lunar eclipses. During the interpretation process, Muhammad Ershad adopted a lot of information contained in the scientific discipline of astronomy. Apart from that, he also displayed his own drawings to make the reader easier in understanding the explanation he provided. In this article analyzed modernization etymological, scientific and social philosophical interpretations. As we know scientific research, by its epistemological basis, requires the identification of concepts and categories that are specific to the object of knowledge, which serve to reveal its ontological nature, and to have a clear idea about them. As science undergoes a process of deep integration, it is natural for concepts and categories to shift from one discipline to another, especially in the field of philosophy. Philosophy's tendency to be universal, comprehensive, and prone to extensive approaches give rise to concepts and categories related to specific sciences (physics, medicine, biology, mathematics, etc.). This sometimes leads not only to general notions of concepts and categories, but also to different notions from the original etymological interpretation. As a result, a single word is interpreted differently, resulting in assumptions that do not correspond to the ontological features of the object of study. In order for such “word games” not to occur, in order to have a clear idea of the object of research, scientific research begins with defining the concepts and categories that express the object and purpose of research, and defining their essence and functional functions. Such a fundamental concept, category, is "modernization" for our scientific research.

Many previous researchers have indeed done research related to scientific literacy. However, few studies discuss scientific literacy related to the context of the COVID-19 virus on biological materials. The goal of this study is to find out how well students understand science in the context of the COVID-19 virus. The descriptive quantitative research method was applied. The sample consisted of 107 students from class XI science at a Madrasah Aliyah in Tangerang Selatan. The results showed the students' scientific literacy ability with an average percentage of 75.65% with good interpretation. Scientific literacy tested are 73.89% contextual aspects with sufficient interpretation, knowledge aspects, 75.29% with adequate interpretations, 75.47% competence aspects with sufficient interpretations, and 84.35% with good interpretations. The study concludes that students in class XI science can comprehend scientific literacy in the context of a current scientific occurrence, namely, the COVID-19 virus. The findings have implications for how teachers can develop students' scientific literacy skills by providing contextual examples of the COVID-19 virus so that students understand it and apply it in everyday life.

Scientific exegesis is one of the new trends in interpreting the Quran that will continue to be in demand. There are many discussions of science and Quran integration, and the rise of various works of scientific interpretation among scholars and scientists has become the real proof of it. However, some Muslim communities still doubt the validity of scientific interpretations. One of the reasons is because the source of the interpretation is relative and temporal. This evidence, of course, cannot be compared with the Quran, which is absolute. Therefore, a regulation is needed in the application of scientific interpretation. This study aims to examine and explore the methods and principles of the scientific interpretation of the Quran conducted by Zaghlûl Râghib al-Najjâr, in terms of their strengths, shortcomings, and relevance in the interpretation of the Quran. This research is considered qualitative research utilizing library research by analyzing some literatures such as books and journal articles. The results of this research show that the Zaghlûl as a Geologist, who is quite productive with the authority of science he has, does not only interpret Quran scientifically but also explains the procedure of interpretation through methods and principles of interpretation similar to scholars of tafsîr in general. In fact, he may be even be considered more specific and ideal compared to others because he not only complements but also enhances the guidelines and principles of the scientific exegesis that have been used before.

The vast literature on the Reformation and the rise of science has produced what may be called strong and weak interpretations of their relation. The strong interpretation holds that specific doctrines or attitudes affirmed by the Reformers and their followers contributed directly to the growth of science. On this view, the Reformation was among the causes of the Scientific Revolution. Without the changes in thought and values wrought by the Reformation, proponents of the strong interpretation argue, modern science would not have developed as it did. The weak interpretation, on the other hand, does not claim a direct influence of Protestantism on science. It acknowledges that modern science developed as a movement independent of the Reformation and it claims only that Protestantism offered relatively few obstacles to scientific expansion. On the weak interpretation, the absence of the Reformation would have had little, if any, effect on the Scientific Revolution. After brief discussion of each of these interpretations, I will argue that the strong interpretation is too strong and that the weak one can be strengthened. I will outline an indirect approach, which falls between the above extremes, and offers advantages not offered by either of them.

This article discusses the tendency of Tafsīr 'Ilmī in Imam Suyuti's interpretation of the plague verses. Interestingly, as a classical commentator, he interprets the plague verses in his commentary books using the traditions of the Prophet (naqli), but he explains about the plague in addition to his commentary books by referring to the interpretation of the plague verses which are supported by scientific data. To analyze the tendency of this interpretation (ittijāh al-tafsīr), the researcher uses the theory of scientific interpretation. This research is qualitative in nature and uses content analysis methods, especially the istiqra (inductive) method. The istiqra method is used to analyze his interpretation of the plague verses that are spread in his commentaries and his books on epidemics and medicine. The purpose of this study is to reveal the indications of the trend of scientific interpretation explored by Imam Suyūt}ī in his books on epidemics and medicine by referring to his interpretations in his commentary books, so this research is urgent to confirm the historical roots and dynamics of Tafsīr 'Ilmī, whose epistemological tendency has emerged in the era of classical scholars. The results of this study are, first, in general, the method of interpretation of Imam Suyūt}ī is bi al-ma'ṣūr. Second, Imam Suyūtī's interpretation of the plague verses in Ṭā'ūn and medical themed books tends to 'Ilmi' Tafsir in terms of a more scientific explanation of the narrations that are in accordance with science, medical and socio-historical. Third, the scientific tendency in Imam Suyūt}ī's interpretation is in historical and medical.

The interpretation of the Qur'an has begun from the time of the Prophet (s) until it continues to develop over time, the development of interpretation of the Qur'an is inseparable from the problem of life that continues to grow according to its time. Therefore the interpretation model of the Qur'an also has characteristics, as well as different methods. The difference in interpretation model of the Qur'an also occurs in Indonesia. This article focuses on discussing the development of interpretation writing in Indonesia which is divided into two categories, namely scientific and non-scientific. In the context of socializing the worldview of the Quran, the writing of interpretations in Indonesia in the 1990s moved with two forces. First, strength in a hermeneutic context. Second, the writing of interpretation is placed as a socio-societal movement.

The aim of the present research is to study the "collective imaginary" produced by the articles within scientific circulation, in order to understand the perception of science that is shaping among the public. It is meant to identify, based on the theoretical background of cognitive science and on a epistemological perspective, the cognitive maps that drive the analysis and the interpretation of scientific knowledge, in order to let the global sense built by single individuals' cognitions and interpretative acts arise; their paradigms of reference and the scientific imaginary being subtended. The results from this analysis have proven how important the role of collective scientific imaginary can be in a "knowledgeable society". Twelve cognitive maps have been deduced, and they represent the epistemological outlines the articles refer to. They have highlighted an ongoing general transition from mechanicist and reductionist paradigms of reference to other olistic and systemic ones, as well as the new role that technology has attained within our society and its own imaginary. What comes out of all of this, is therefore an always-tighter need for collaboration and cooperation among all the disciplines concurring to the building of our society and our science.

The article is devoted to the consideration of the Islamic intellectual tradition from the point of view of the possibility of correlating it with the social and hu­manitarian aspects of science, formed in the traditions of European culture. The reason for this study was postmodernist interpretations of the processes of the Islamization of knowledge as ways to overcome the dichotomy of science and religion. These interpretations are based on the social, in fact, idea of the civilizational identity of Muslims living and working today in European countries (including those working in the field of science) and Muslims of the traditional Islamic East. The authors, however, associate the prospects of a re­newed interpretation of the Islamic scientific tradition with the possibility of its rethinking in the context of the post-nonclassical concept of scientific rationality. This concept makes it possible to overcome the interpretation of “western” and “eastern” knowledge, which reaches the point of opposition. Such a rethinking is unfolding today, in particular, in the course of the reinterpretation of historically established Islamized intellectual trends. The authors come to the conclusion: the Islamization of education in the East, begun by 9th century intellectuals (primar­ily from among the Muslim Ummah) on the didactic foundations laid down in the Qur’an and Sunnah, implied a rethinking of the cultural status of various fields of knowledge from the standpoint of the corresponding value orientations, which, in principle does not contradict the modern understanding of science as an axiologically oriented system. The very possibility of this kind of correlation of the value aspects of knowledge opposes the “scientific marginalization” of Is­lam and presupposes the delineation of the semantic content of Islam as a cul­tural regulator that also orientates science and Islam as a system of rigid reli­gious ideas.

The purpose of the article is to explore the various interpretations of the concepts of "improvisation" and "interpretation" encountered in modern science, to identify the most appropriate definitions of these concepts that reveal the specificity of jazz performance and determine the relationship of these two concepts. The methodology of the article is the researches of improvisation and interpretation of various orientations. First, a scientific approach is used, which characterizes this process as a creative method. The scientific works devoted directly to improvisation in jazz are also used, which contain analysis of the improvisations of well-known performers and exercises for teaching local techniques. The scientific novelty of the work is that the term "interpretation" is considered in a broader sense in interaction with improvisation, that is, not only as an interpretation of other people's musical ideas in performing activities but also as an interpretation of personal artistic intentions in the process of musicians' activity. Conclusions. The interaction of interpretation and improvisation is clearly traced, since interpretation is an aspect of musical practice that proceeds from the differences between the recorded music notation and the live performance of the work. Consequently, this process inherent element of unpredictability. The interrelation of the interpretation of the musical text and the mastery of the improvisatory demonstration of this text by the interpreter, which is determined by his individual qualities, is traced.

Interpretation of Tantawi Jawhari not only shws the use of reason but reflects progress and unity between the sciences in Islam.

Therefore, it is important to know how the development of interpretation at the time of the Companions. This paper uses a descriptive analysis method with a qualitative approach and applies library research types. The result is that the exegesis of the Companions period does not yet have special works like those of the later era, so the exegesis is still scattered randomly like hadith. Interpretations of friends also experience differences, but tend to be more diverse. There are three sources used by friends: the Koran, Hadith, and Ijtihad. The ijtihad techniques of the companions varied according to their scientific capacity. In addition, the interpretation of the Companions is considered to be the authoritative interpretation after the Qur'an and Hadith, because the Companions really understand the history of the revelation of the verses. The quality of the history of the interpretation of the Companions also needs to be analyzed for its status, but there are also many credible paths of transmission.

This article aims to review the historicity of the development of interpretations in the ninth and tenth centuries of the Islamic era. In this century, the activities of interpreting the Qur’an based on historical quotations from friends, tabi’in and also tabi’-tabi’in were almost not enforced, because the interpreters in applying the fruit of their interpretation of the Qur’an used a scientific approach language and scientific reasoning. By using descriptive-analytical methods and pure literature studies with a content analysis approach, this paper concludes that; (1) the source of the interpretation combines the interpretations of bi al-ma’tsur and bi al-ra’yi; (2) how to explain using bayani; (3) the breadth of the explanation of the majority using the ijmali method; (4) the objectives and order of the verses use the tahlili method; and (5) the tendency of the flow in its interpretation to use linguistic aspects, namely lughawi.

Abstract Not many reports have been performed on the Holy Qur'an, regarding the traces of scientific interpretation in modern translations in Indonesia. Based on the few conducted analysis, an ilmi (science) pattern was not considered, with the riwayah methods mostly used in obtaining interpretation from classical data. Therefore, this study aims to determine a new interpretation of an-Nur by TM. Hasbi al-Shiddieqy, regarding the dimension of science. This qualitative study used the closeness of text analysis, with data being obtained through a related literature review. It also aims to determine the ilmi patterns contained in the an-Nur exegesis work by TM. Hasbi al-Shiddieqy. The results showed that several scientific interpretations were observed, although they were not massively placed.
