Повний текст джерелаThis thesis traces the history of UNESCO's editorial project "The Different Aspects of Islamic Culture" (1977-2016). It aims to analyze the investment of Arab and Islamic organizations in UNESCO's human and social sciences programs from a case study. In the mid-1970s, the history of Islam and Muslims became a soft power issue for religious and political authorities seeking global Islamic leadership. Academic controversies emerged between liberal and integral Muslim intellectuals struggling with logics of regional ideological influence. How to write a scientific history of Islam considering cultural recognition, the urgency of the racial issue, the fight against prejudices about Islam and Muslims, and respect for religious beliefs?The 1980s opened a new stage. For the first time, the UNESCO General Conference recognizes religion as an integral component of cultural identity. The OIC-ISESCO stands out as the Third Way organizations and puts an end to the pluralization and competition of actors. It's the beginning of two decades of Islamic cultural normalization at UNESCO in a global context marked by Islamic terrorism, and openness to intercultural and religious dialogue

Повний текст джерелаThe French religious and sexual landscapes share certain mutations that characterized a larger dynamic of secularization. They are structured not only by processes that diversify practices, multiply the available choices for action, and individualize norms, but also by the persistence of social frameworks that regulate behaviour. The state of religion in France is characterized by the Catholic faith’s loss of institutional influence and a reduction in church membership, a growing number of people stating no religious affiliation, and the specific position of Islam. The latter is a young, dynamic religion that is often understated and racialized in social space. These changes—and the differing histories of Catholicism and Islam in France—explain and interrogate the high public and media visibility of a religious fringe concerned with questions of gender and sexuality. To better understand these phenomena, the thesis examines the links between gender, sexuality and religion in France since the 1970s, on the basis of the sexual practice and representations of Catholics and Muslims. My analysis uses two types of material: three major population surveys on sexuality in France (1970, 1992, 2006) and one on conjugality (2013), together with biographical interviews with respondents who identify as Catholics and Muslims. The combination of these research materials provides a comparative perspective on the development of sexual behaviour among women and men according to their religiosity.The range of sexual behaviour among individuals, whether Catholic, Muslim or non-affiliated, is wide and diversified. Practices (first sexual experience, masturbation, pornography) are becoming more similar between Catholics and the non-affiliated, while Muslims’ sexuality is characterized by major gender differences and practices related to their minorized position in social space (such as men’s use of prostitutes). The perceptions of family and homosexuality fall into three major patterns, according to the respondents’ attachment to life as a couple, childbearing and heterosexuality. Religious commitment to some extent determines these positions, which are also situated within broader life stories and sexual experience.The thesis also demonstrates how women and men’s religious and sexual trajectories are connected on the basis of their life stories and place in power relationship (class, gender, race). In some cases, religion may be a resource (cultural, social or symbolic) for finding a partner and underplaying or reinforcing processes of social selection. The research interviews throw light on the ways in which respondents appropriate their religion, in what they say about it and about their behaviour, and the ways they subjectivate norms and (re)construct them in hindsight as they review their life experiences.The thesis offers new insight into the process of secularization in France. The sexuality of Catholics and Muslims provides an original view of the way men and women establish themselves as subjects. It sheds new light on the various forms of social normativity in a society where normative sources are multiple and non-hierarchical. Finally, it demonstrates that religion is only socially significant in a society structured by gender, class, race, and sexual inequalities

Повний текст джерелаThis research aims to understand how the field of contemporary art autonomizing and institutionalizing mobilises knowledge (categories, proposals, devices) developed in an other area, that of humanities. The central issue of the thesis concerns the conditions of reception, representation and use of this knowledge. In order to analyze the forms of its appropriation, an empirical material has been established in various ways: it mainly consists of a series of artists’ biographies, in-situ observation in an art centre, compilation and quantitative processing of databases, a corpus of discourses produced in and out art institutions and texts having circulated at ten exhibitions. The content analysis of this later corpus allows the description of a presence and regular representations of Human Sciences (concepts, authors, subjects…), which testify that the mobilization of exogenous speech is underpinned by collective criteria. A characterisation of the institutional and enunciative practices of contemporary art exhibition had been made beforehand, in order to build and contextualize this corpus. Thus, the exhibitions can be located in a discursive space made of common rules and references, but also in a social space (depending on the trajectory and recognition of artists and institutions). Beyond the mere description, this approach allows the analysis of different types of use of the humanities, more or less rhetorical, legitimizing, rigorous; the variations in uses depend particularly on the purpose of the exhibitions, which can be mainly aimed to “audience” or to “the artists”

Повний текст джерелаL’analyse genrée de ces discours propres à chacun de ces courants, permet-elle d’identifier des différences de représentation de « la femme musulmane » ?L’émergence d’une féminisation du discours islamique à Bruxelles, au sein du courant conscientisateur des Frères Musulmans engendre-t-elle une remise en question de ces représentations et la mise en exergue des rapports sociaux de sexe ?A partir d’une recherche de terrain, qui s’est étendue de septembre 2006 à mars 2011, nous répondons à ces questions à l’aide d’un corpus constitué de plus 60 discours issus des acteurs et actrices religieux des courants fondamentalistes à Bruxelles. Ce corpus peut prétendre à l’exhaustivité.

Повний текст джерелаThis dissertation examines the challenges and creative processes of intermediate places (cultural sites, third-places) in the specific situation of Belgium during the 1970s. In a context of social, cultural and artistic demands and urban conflicts, as the country was undergoing institutional reforms following the first revision of the Constitution, new actors claimed their place in the city and their right to the city.Studies on intermediate places have proliferated over the past twenty years with regard to land use planning issues. A review of the state of the art reveals that while geographers, urban planners and sociologists invested contemporary spaces to analyze the territorial - and more specifically urban - dynamics to which they contribute, art and theater historians produced monographs on the invention of such new spaces and about their significance and effects in the art world.Using unedited archive collections and oral history to study three intermediate places founded in Belgium in the 1970s - the Halles de Schaerbeek, the Cirque Divers and the Raffinerie du Plan K - this research suggests to combine these two approaches by showing how, through aesthetics, design choices and the modes of sociability implemented in these places, they developed a specific urban imaginary, contributed to the experience of the city and entered the art world.The implementation of such infrastructures provided a spatial solution that would enable the development of new artistic practices, encourage other attitudes towards culture and favor celebratory modes of sociability, in a poorly dynamic cultural context. The dissertation shows how the "Do It Yourself" movement that promoted the development of intermediate places as well as their lack of organizational means made them particularly sensitive to their - institutional, urban, socio-cultural, artistic - environment and exposed them to the life and needs of the city. Consequently, it can be stated that the three cultural sites arose from a dynamic of cooperation and appropriation by the users, rather than from an oppositional logic. In light of the current model of city marketing and the aspirations of the creative city, which relies on the use of public infrastructures and cultural events for economic and marketing purposes, the historical approach of this work aims at reexamining the value of cultural places as a resource. Drawing on the history of these three sites, it calls for a reflection on the conditions of possibility of cultural infrastructure as a common.Keywords: intermediate places, requalification, common, development, appropriation, 1970, creative city, celebration, spectacle, urban imaginary, Brussels, Liege, Belgium
