The process of processing attendance data at the 33 Jakarta High School is done manually by the teacher. Such attendance and assessment processing systems require renewal by utilizing existing technologies in the school environment. The technology that is currently developing rapidly is the reason researchers to develop online attendance information systems. The research aims to develop student attendance information systems online in order to be able to complete the absence of data processing and attendance of the absence of information for parents from the school. So far, parents can only know the attendance and grades of students when taking report cards only. By conducting this research the researcher wants parents to be able to know the student's attendance and grades at any time. The research method used is a waterfall. The first stage is the analysis of device requirements. The second step is application design. The third stage is making program code. The fourth stage is testing applications and benefits to users. The last stage of program maintenance is periodically to avoid any errors that arise. The maintenance process can repeat the development process starting from specification analysis to changes to existing software, but not for making new devices.

Student attendance at SMKN 1 Kebun Tebu is still done manually. The student affairs department often struggles when asked for information about student attendance. Many parents/guardians complained because they did not know the attendance information or delay of their children from the school. Communication devices in the form of cellular phones or mobile phones are not a luxury anymore but can be said to be a secondary need for everyone because the function is much more practical and efficient. These technological advances can be used as a reporting system about student information, especially attendance. Currently, there are still many schools that cannot maximize the technology at least to monitor children from anywhere without having to go to school just to ask about their children's attendance. Therefore, a web-based student attendance information system and SMS Gateway are needed to facilitate the process of monitoring students by parents. Using software development, the author tried to build a web-based student attendance information system with SMS Gateway at SMKN 1 Kebun Tebu using Java and PHP programming languages with MySql as the database. So that the input process and data processing are faster. With this application, it is expected to help the school and students in the student attendance process.

Student attendance in any educational institutions is a critical content of the administration of school and the major task of the course lecturer who maintain attendance. The conventional method of monitoring students' attendance in the classroom typically involves requiring students to physically record their attendance. Initially, this process was carried out manually using pen and paper. However, as the student population grows, this approach becomes increasingly burdensome, time-consuming, and susceptible to mistakes. To avoid these challenges, this paper proposes a Mobile attendance system using GPS locator and facial authentication algorithm to monitor students’ attendance using android mobile devices. The mobile attendance app is based on Client-Server Architecture where the server is hosted in the cloud and clients are with mobile devices with in-built GPS Locator. To secure the integrity of the attendance, the GPS locator helps in locating the precise geographical position of the students present, a mock detector is also integrated into the app to detect fake location of the students in the classroom meeting and the facial image used by the student at runtime support startup camera.

Due to COVID-19, many schools switched to remote instruction, creating an urgency to address the technology needs of many families, including grandparent-headed families. Many grandparent-headed families (i.e., custodial grandparents) have limited access to digital devices and stable internet. Moreover, many of these grandparents lack the skills and confidence to use technology, which may affect both their grandchildren’s ability to attend school as well as their academic performance. This study investigates both the associations of grandfamilies’ access to technology and custodial grandparents’ comfort level with technology with their grandchildren’s academic attendance and performance during COVID-19. We analyzed cross-sectional survey data collected from grandparents raising grandchildren between March 2021 and February 2022 in the United States. Ordered logistic regression analyses were conducted using STATA. The key results suggested that grandfamilies’ more stable access to technology (OR = 1.54, p = 0.048) and grandparents’ high comfort level with technology (OR = 2.18, p = 0.003) during grandchildren’s remote learning were significantly associated with higher odds of grandchildren’s better school attendance. Similarly, more stable access to technology (OR = 1.53, p = 0.048) and higher comfort level with technology (OR = 1.67, p = 0.030) were significantly associated with higher odds of grandchildren’s better academic performance. The results imply the need to provide stable internet and digital devices to grandfamilies without access to these services or devices, as well as technical assistance and technical-related education workshops to custodial grandparents who are not tech-savvy.

This research investigates the types of digital devices used by students at a Secondary School in Kiritpur Municipality, Nepal, and their relationship with grade level, focusing on integrating technology in teaching mathematics. The case is urban school phenomena. A survey was conducted with 420 students, using a questionnaire for data collection. Statistical tools used in analysis included univariate (frequency and percentage) and bivariate (Chi-Square) methods. Findings show that mobile devices are the most widely used for attending online classes. Around 25% of students lack access to necessary technology at least mobile too. Attendance rates vary between lower and higher grade levels. Importantly, the study reveals limited technology integration at an urban School, with teachers lacking awareness of how to effectively adapt and incorporate technologies in the classroom, specifically for mathematics teaching. These results underscore the need to improve digital device availability and the types for teaching science, mathematics like subjects, which demand dynamic, interactive tools use. Similarly, access to devices particularly at the lower secondary level is lower, and over reliance on parents' device needs reducing reliance on parental devices. Additionally, there is a call for enhanced professional development to support teachers in integrating technology into mathematics instruction. Addressing these challenges will contribute to enhancing the learning experience and overall effectiveness of technology integration in the classroom.

This paper aims to develop a generic face detection and recognition system that will automate the process of collecting school attendance by recognizing students' frontal faces from classroom photographs. The reliability of the data collected is the biggest problem with the traditional attendance management systems. Many automated methods, such as biometric attendance, are being used. However, technical difficulties with scanning devices always affect the efficiency of such techniques. This paper employs principal component analysis approaches for face detection and OpenCV for face recognition to improve data quality and information accessibility for legitimate parties. The Python programming language was used for the development of the proposed system, while SQL was used for the development of the database that houses the information of users in the system. The new system was tested and shown to be not only safe but also protects students' identities by offering an anonymous attendance environment.

Over the last two years, the prolonged massive school closure due to COVID-19 has provoked significant constraints for refugee children. The present study aimed to investigate the perceptions of Greek pre-service teachers on refugee education during the COVID-19 pandemic. A questionnaire was addressed to 32 native university students (n = 32) who attended Education Departments in Western Macedonia in Greece. The results showed that the prevalence of distance education affected pre-service teachers’ perceptions. The access to devices with internet capability as well as the cultural barriers was considered to be crucial factors for the school attendance of refugee children. Participants’ perceptions of the level of teacher preparation in a distance learning environment were related to their level of self-efficacy for supporting refugee students. The findings suggest that in the aftermath of COVID-19 pandemic, the international community should make efforts to ensure the school attendance of all refugee students.

The IoT refers to the linking of items to a network through message-generating devices; in the connection process, communication and information circulation are carried out through the information dissemination medium to realize intelligent identification, tracking, supervision, and other functions. Attendance management is a system for assessing employee attendance, including being late, leaving early, and asking for leave. Student attendance refers to the attendance rate of students in class. This article aimed to study the design and research of the student attendance management system based on the Internet of things technology, and use this system to accurately record students’ attendance and develop good habits for students. An effective attendance management company has been developed to enhance the collection of information for student management in universities, to keep track of teachers’ and students’ teaching attendance in real time, and to connect teachers and students in real time using computer technology. Access to the Android version of the software speeds up the collection and processing of information and can play an important role in improving the efficiency of personnel management. On the basis of analysing the operation logic of the attendance system, matching programs and the attendance system software are designed. The experimental results of this article show that the attendance rate of students with utilitarian personality is the highest, as high as 70%; the attendance rate of students with helpless personality is 13%; the attendance rate of students who follow the current personality accounted for 10%; and the attendance rate of nonmotivated students accounted for 7%. It can be seen from this that personality is an important factor affecting students’ attendance rate. The attendance rate of positive psychology with goals is the highest, and the attendance rate of students without clear goals is the lowest. The student attendance management system of the Internet of things technology has been applied in practical work, but with the continuous construction and development of the school, the continuous improvement of new software and hardware, and the emergence of new needs in practical work, the student attendance management system is easy to crash when processing a large amount of data at the same time.

Abstract: In the current scenario smartphones play a vital role in our daily life, In fact they are a part of our lives. Smartphones can now handle the majority of problems fast and easily. Every person's life has been made simpler and easier as a result of it.Basically this paper focuses on the problem which is faced by the faculties and students during the process of attendance and there are more chances of proxies in the traditional method (using pen and papers). The paper proposed a system that will use AR Marker technology and handle the problem for recording the attendance of the students in school and colleges. The suggested system consists of two applications: one for creating the AR Marker by entering class information via faculty, and another for scanning the QR code via students. The teacher will generate the QR code and present it to the students using a projector, after which the students will simply open the second app and scan the QR code to get their attendance. The Smart Attendance System is cost effective because it does not rely on biometric devices which are expensive. The paper explains how the system authenticates students' identities in order to prevent fraudulent registrations. By changing the QR code every five to ten seconds and just for five minutes, the system is able to reduce the proxy level. If any student fails to show up for class, the professor may display the QR code again. The system is in charge of managing and evaluating all students' attendance. In addition, the system will save the attendance data in XLS and CSV files for future use. Keyword: Smart Attendance System, AR Marker, Attendance System using QR Code, Software as a Service .

We analyzed the association between school attendance and the daily frequency of use of different forms of screens (TV, computer, cell phone and videogame) among children and adolescents. Longitudinal study with four repeated measures during the 2015 school year. Children and adolescents from a public school participated in the study (n = 463, 53.6% boys; 9.3 ± 1.3 years old). The daily frequency of screen use was the outcome analyzed, which was reported on an online questionnaire for the previous-day recall, illustrated with 32 icons of activities including 4 types of electronic devices. The participant answered “What did you do yesterday?” in the morning, afternoon, and night. School attendance was assessed by responding to the item “Did you go to school yesterday?”. The analysis was conducted using generalized estimation equations, with adjustment by sex, age, BMI z-scores, and season of the year. The average percentage of absences during the follow-up was 28.7%. The use of screens was 13% higher among students who missed class. Playing a video game was 37% higher among students who missed class. The daily frequency of screen use was 26% higher among adolescents (10-12 years) compared to children (7-9 years), especially in the analysis performed individually for TV and cell phone. The daily frequency of screen use and watching TV among students who missed classes during the winter was, respectively, 24% (IRR = 1.24; 95%CI = 1.11 - 1.39) and 35% (IRR = 1.35; 95%CI = 1.10 - 1.66) higher compared to those who missed classes during the fall. In conclusion, the use of screens predominated among students who missed class, mainly in winter.

The phenomenon of inconstant school attendance by pupils who have been termed “EFIV” (“children of itinerant and transient families”) since 2012 by the French Ministry of Education has led us to question not only a public classification but also policies and apparatuses pertaining to them. The research presented herein is a department-wide analysis of an area where a school attendance policy for this group has been applied for over ten years. By questioning the categories of research which in the past served to assess sporadic school attendance by “traveler” or “Gypsy” children, this analysis deconstructs the anthropological explanations concerning resistance to writing, to objectivating processes and to scholastic skills. Based on a qualitative survey mainly established via interviews with middle school children and their parents, the analysis likewise indicates how pupils’ situations cannot be reduced to mere family practices alone but also integrates the pupils’ differentiated roles, as per the diversity of their relationships to school, to scholastic knowledge and to the future. This same analysis also covers the roles played by the scholastic institutions themselves. Since some pupils remain insufficiently schooled, while others, even though attending school, never acquire middle school knowledge sets, it was necessary to create a distinction between schooling (the pupils’ use of scholastic knowledge) and school attendance (their presence in class). Last of all, through the analysis of a collection of documents and interviews with personnel, this thesis explores institutional action as an apparatus and challenges the policy of “the inclusive school”

What’s valuable? Market competition provides one kind of answer. Competitions offer another. On one side, competition is an ongoing and seemingly endless process of pricings; on the other, competitions are discrete and bounded in time and location, with entry rules, judges, scores, and prizes. This book examines what happens when ever more activities in domains of everyday life are evaluated and experienced in terms of performance metrics. Unlike organized competitions, such systems are ceaseless and without formal entry. Instead of producing resolutions, their scorings create addictions. To understand these developments, this book explores discrete contests (architectural competitions, international music competitions, and world press photo competitions); shows how the continuous updating of rankings is both a device for navigating the social world and an engine of anxiety; and examines the production of such anxiety in settings ranging from the pedagogy of performance in business schools to struggling musicians coping with new performance metrics in online platforms. In the performance society, networks of observation—in which all are performing and keeping score—are entangled with a system of emotionally charged preoccupations with one’s positioning within the rankings. From the bedroom to the boardroom, pharmaceutical companies and management consultants promise enhanced performance. This assemblage of metrics, networks, and their attendant emotional pathologies is herein regarded as the performance complex.

AbstractThe COVID-19 pandemic has forced an unprecedented global shutdown that has greatly changed what it means to be a teacher, a student, and even a parent in the months that schools have been closed. While most school systems normally require daily physical attendance and bring students together in large groups to learn in a collective endeavor, the closing of schools and the months of social distancing have shifted the site of learning to the home, where learning happens primarily alone or with the help of family members through the technologies available. In this chapter, we report on how school shutdown has affected the students in Grades 1–10 across Norway, where teachers in March 2020 were asked to perform all their teaching from home, through digital devices and remote teaching. As in other countries, Norwegian teachers and school leaders were not prepared to go digital overnight, despite good technological infrastructure and a curriculum that explicitly emphasizes the importance of digital competence across subjects. Drawing on a national survey administered to parents (N = 4,642) about how digital homeschooling was organized, we have investigated what kind of educational opportunities students were offered during the period of remote teaching. Our key findings are that digital home schooling to a large degree consisted of students doing individual tasks, with limited support from their teachers, especially in the lowest grades. We discuss how the unequal access to qualified help at home challenges some of the core ideals of the Nordic model of education—where equal opportunities to learn is a key ambition.

A person's attendance is crucial in determining their presence and attentiveness. An organisation, college, or a school daily requires attendance to monitor its employees and students. When done the old-fashioned way, managing attendance can take much time. This work focuses on a user-friendly and reliable method of keeping track of attendance considering the times. This chapter proposes an Android-based online attendance application, FaceTrace, that can be used to record attendance. It facilitates paperless attendance. It is an automated and user-friendly facial recognition attendance system designed to automate attendance tracking using facial recognition. With this application, the students can mark their attendance by scanning their faces into the camera, while teachers can take manual attendance whenever necessary. The application generates detailed attendance reports in PDF format. It eliminates the need for manual attendance taking regular paper attendance saving valuable. It is accessible from any device, making it an ideal solution for educational institutions of all sizes.

Abstract Sue Ellen was a sixteen-year-old who complained of fatigue and weakness. She was unable to go to school because she could not get out of bed in the morning and complained of hurting all over. Six months previously, she had developed a severe viral infection with fever, rash, and diffuse aches and pains. Although the fever and rash resolved within a week, she never regained her strength. She had been seen by several physicians and had been treated for Lyme disease—despite negative blood tests—with no response. A thorough physical examination and comprehensive laboratory testing found no abnormalities except for multiple trigger points. I explained to Sue Ellen and her family that we would all have to work together to help her get well. With the aid of her family, and friends, a program of steadily increasing activities and school attendance was devised. She often became discouraged because she tried to do too much and exhausted herself. It took several months for Sue Ellen to resume her normal activities. However, once she realized that she was the most important member of the team working to restore her health, she made steady progress to a full recovery.

Organizations are introducing biometric devices into various sections of the economy for various reasons. What began as a security feature for a limited number of government organizations has been adapted to such diverse uses as paying for school children’s lunches to tracking employees’ work attendance. From an organizational perspective, justifications for use of biometric devices are plentiful. However, the public’s perception of these devices may be quite different. These perceptions in turn will influence public willingness to accept and use biometric devices. Although employee use of biometric devices can be mandated, a more productive alternative might be to understand their perceptions and address those specifically through education and information. This paper describes common types of biometrics, reviews their current use in organizations, presents findings of a recent survey of public perceptions to determine the areas requiring the most education, and concludes with suggestions for providing this education.

Since attendance monitoring and recording plays a key role in the school environment, especially regarding the duties of students and guardians, the purpose of this paper was to develop a mobile application to automate student attendance recording using Near Field Communication technology. (NFC). Students record their presence by approaching an NFC tag (present on ID badges) from a teacher’s mobile device, which receives identification data from the students present. This verification method is an additional option for making calls and enables recorded data to be exported and used in the school’s academic system.

Monitoring students in the classroom plays a key role in the academicfollow-up. In addition to attendance control, it also allowsstudying the impact of absences on learning. In this context, thispaper presents the development of a school attendance managementsystem using computer vision techniques and convolutionalneural networks. A camera captures images from the classroom. The system then detects the faces of the people in the image, andrecognizes students using pre-trained convolutional neural networkmodels. The frequency data generated is stored in the systemdatabase and accessed through a web page. In addition, a mobileapp has been developed to notify student attendance. The initialresults show that the system identifies the registered students andnotifies the mobile device of responsible.

Abstract The syllabus getting outdated, classroom attendance getting less importance, fast advancements of technology and changing workforce, and demography require us to rethink and re-examine the core curricula being taught at petroleum schools. The changing landscape like clean energy and carbon neutral delivery are adding pressure to re-examine the subjects taught in the classroom so that the long-term sustainability is established. So, acquiring interdisciplinary skills is crucial with the reformed curricula. The questions to be addressed include: "What is the fundamental problem in the present petroleum education?," "Is there any problem with the present theoretical framework?," "Is the petroleum education aligned with the latest developments such as edge devices, sensors, machine learning and artificial intelligence?," "Is there an academia-industry-regulatory agencies tighter participation?," and "What are the structural changes needed like rebranding as energy engineering?." The paper addresses these questions by proposing a new approach to petroleum engineering education by way of a changed energy engineering program, which involves fundamentals of engineering, sciences, and technologies that culminates in the development of experiential learning on cyber-physical systems.

The pandemic generated by COVID-19 has a tremendous impact on the economy, society, and life of people all over the world. People suffer from the lockdown restrictions, reduced and very limited space. The situation is further aggravated by illnesses of family members, acquaintances, friends, illnesses caused by the coronavirus, and sometimes losses. This not only stresses, but also leads to exhaustion, burnout, and life with a continuous feeling of fear and stress. Although online learning is familiar and broadly accepted, there is a huge difference between going online to complement learning and find additional sources of information and knowledge and going online instead of going to school or university. Extant research reports on several side effects of online classes, such as stress, frustration, lack of engagement, and motivation. At present, it is noticed an abundance of research, showing that over-prolonged focus on the screen (computer, tablet, phone) increases stress and anxiety. And though digital devices are indispensable human attendants in the 21st century, nevertheless, twice the extended time allotted to them has negative consequences. During such a pandemic, such symptoms as anxiety, fear of infection and death, anger, hopelessness, stigma, and guilt can occur. This study aims at analyzing two negative perceptions of university students as regards the online lectures during the pandemic: frustration and stress. Online lectures refer to various activities, such as courses, seminars, talks, or debates. The research is using samples of Lithuanian and Romanian university students from three universities. Multiple linear regression has been used to analyze the influence of boredom, concentration difficulties, learning difficulties, and fatigue on the frustrating and stressful learning experience. The results show all four factors have a significant positive influence on the dependent variables. While learning difficulty is the most important factor leading to a frustrating learning experience, fatigue has been found as the main cause of the stressful learning experience.
