RESUMONas comunidades rurais, o transporte escolar é fundamental no acesso à unidade de ensino, porém o tempo que os estudantes permanecem no veículo até as escolas acaba sendo muito longo, o que acarreta no cansaço e desgaste dos alunos e, consequentemente, influencia no seu rendimento escolar. Um exemplo desta situação acontece no Instituto Federal de Roraima/campus Novo Paraíso, localizado na zona rural de Caracaraí-RR, onde o tempo de deslocamento até a escola é maior que o recomendado e o desempenho dos alunos no Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio nos últimos dois anos foi abaixo da média nacional. Para minimizar esse problema, é necessário, além de um melhor planejamento das rotas do transporte rural, políticas públicas para melhorar as vias rurais e um plano pedagógico de ensino que seja mais atrativo e retrate a realidade dos alunos do campo. Time length of stay in school transport on student performance ABSTRACT In rural communities, school transport is essential for access to the teaching unit, but the time students spend in the vehicle until school are very long, which results in tiredness and emotional distress, consequently, influences their school performance. An example of this situation is at the Roraima Federal Institute / Novo Paraíso campus, located in rural Caracaraí-RR, where the travel time to school is longer than recommended and student performance in the National High School Exam in the last two years was below the national average. To minimize this problem, better planning of rural transport routes, public policies to improve rural roads and a more attractive pedagogical teaching plan that reflects the reality of rural students are needed. La durata della permanenza nel trasporto scolastico sull reddito scolare degli studenti RIASSUNTO Nelle comunità rurali, il trasporto scolastico è essenziale per l'accesso all'unità didattica, ma il tempo che gli studenti trascorrono nel veicolo fino a quando la scuola finisce per essere molto lungo, il che si traduce in stanchezza degli studenti e, di conseguenza, influenza nel loto reddito scolare. Ne è un esempio l'Istituto Federale di Roraima / Novo Paraíso, nel campus rurale di CaracaraíRR, dove il tempo di percorrenza è più lungo di quanto raccomandato e la performance degli studenti al Exame Nazionale de le Superiori negli ultimi due anni era inferiore alla media nazionale. Uno ejemplo de esta situación ocurre en el Instituto Federal de Roraima / campus Novo Paraíso, ubicado en la zona rural de Caracaraí-RR, donde el tiempo de viajar a la escuela es más alto de lo recomendado y el desempeño de los estudiantes en el examen nacional de la escuela secundaria en los últimos dos años han estado por debajo del promedio nacional. This study aimed at map rural typologies based on the status of development and self-sufficiency of the rurals. Status of rural development was built with 11 indicators and status self-sufficient was built with six indicators. The study used secondary data from BPS, wich was PODES 2014 in 434 villages at Bogor district. Primary data was used to support the analysis results with field observations taken at four village representatives typology. The results showed that 187 villages were categorized as developed rurals and 247 villages as undeveloped rurals. Based on self-sufficient status, there were 78 villages categorized as self-sufficient rurals and 356 villages as unself-sufficient rurals. Based on the status of development and self-sufficient, three villages were categorized as typology I (developed and self-suffient rurals), 184 villages were typology II (developed and unself-suffient rurals), 172 villages were typology III (undeveloped and unself-sufficient rurals), and 75 villages were typology IV (undeveloped and self-sufficient rurals). Spearman correlation value was -0.371, there was an inverse relationship between the development status and self-sufficiency status of the rural

Abstract Introduction: Despite efforts by Canadian medical schools to recruit students who are intent on rural practice, rural communities in Canada still face disparities in their physician workforce. Our study aims to identify the variables which predict those physicians who will not only enter rural practice but will remain in rural practice. Methods: Between 2002 and 2004, 2070 Canadian 1st-year medical students were invited to participate in an entry survey delineating career choice, attitudes and sociodemographic data. Of these, 1542 were included in a 2013 analysis to assess the influences on early practice in rural family medicine (FM), and a total of 1530 were included in the current analyses to assess influences on both mid-career rural FM practice and rural FM retention. Variables identified by bivariate analyses as being associated with rural family practice were entered into backward stepwise logistic regression analyses to identify their relative predictive strength on choosing and sustaining a career in rural FM. Results: Of the 1530 physicians included in this study, where 88 (5.8%) physicians were practising in a rural setting in 2013, now 61 (4.0%) were practising rural FM with the remainder practising urban FM (n = 505; 33%) or speciality medicine (n = 964; 63%). Our study found that an early preference for rural practice, having parents with less formal education, being married or in a common-law relationship at medical school entry, coming from a smaller hometown and expressing a desire for a shorter postgraduate training on entry to medical school were predictive of mid-career rural practice location. We also found that having parents with postgraduate education and placing greater emphasis on medical lifestyle at medical school entry were predictive of a mid-career switch away from a rural practice location to a non-rural practice location. Conclusion: These characteristics can be considered by medical school leaders to support the recruitment of candidates to, and retention of, physicians in rural communities. Introduction: Malgré les efforts déployés par les facultés de médecine canadiennes pour recruter des étudiants désireux d’exercer en milieu rural, les communautés rurales du Canada sont toujours confrontées à des disparités au niveau de leurs effectifs médicaux. Notre étude vise à identifier les variables qui prédisent les médecins qui non seulement entreront dans la pratique rurale, mais y resteront. Méthodes: Entre 2002 et 2004, 2 070 étudiants canadiens en première année de médecine ont été invités à participer à un sondage d’entrée décrivant le choix de carrière, les attitudes et les données sociodémographiques. De ce nombre, 1 542 ont été inclus dans une analyse de 2013 visant à évaluer les influences sur la pratique précoce de la médecine familiale rurale (MF), et un total de 1 530 ont été inclus dans les analyses actuelles visant à évaluer les influences sur la pratique de la MF rurale à mi-carrière et sur la rétention de la MF rurale. Résultats: Sur les 1 530 médecins inclus dans cette étude, alors que 88 (5,8%) médecins exerçaient en milieu rural en 2013, 61 (4,0%) pratiquaient la MF rurale, alors que les autres pratiquaient la MF urbaine (n = 505; 33%) ou la médecine spécialisée (n = 964; 63%). Notre étude a révélé qu’une préférence précoce pour la pratique rurale, le fait d’avoir des parents moins scolarisés, d’être marié ou de vivre en union libre au moment de l’entrée à l’école de médecine, de venir d’une petite ville natale et d’exprimer le désir d’une formation postdoctorale plus courte au moment de l’entrée à l’école de médecine, étaient des facteurs prédictifs d’une pratique en milieu rural à mi-carrière. Nous avons également constaté que le fait d’avoir des parents ayant suivi une formation postuniversitaire et d’accorder une plus grande importance au mode de vie médical lors de l’entrée à l’école de médecine était un facteur prédictif d’un changement de lieu d’exercice en milieu de carrière, d’un lieu d’exercice rural à un lieu d’exercice non rural. Conclusion: Ces caractéristiques peuvent être prises en compte par les responsables des facultés de médecine pour soutenir le recrutement de candidats et le maintien des médecins dans les communautés rurales.

Abstract Im Gegensatz zu einer urbanen Ursprungserzählung der Romantik entwickelt dieser Beitrag eine rurale Genealogie der frühromantischen Ästhetik anhand von Ludwig Tiecks Erstlingsroman Peter Lebrecht (1795/96), in dem er einen Begründungszusammenhang zwischen romantischer Autorschaft und ruraler Existenzweise herstellt: 1. Das Rurale verspricht für das romantische Autorensubjekt einen permanenten Zugang zu einer romantisierenden Natur; 2. eine rurale Erziehung und Lebensweise schützt vor den Einflüssen der urbanen Kultur der Aufklärung; 3. das Rurale wird im Lebrecht-Roman als Raum ambivalenter Erfahrung inszeniert, der der Entwicklung einer romantischen Ästhetik entgegenkommt.In contrast to urban genealogies of Romanticism, I propose in this paper a rural genealogy of early Romanticism based on Ludwig Tieck’s novel Peter Lebrecht (1795/96), in which a constitutive relationship between Romantic authorship and rural existence is established: 1. A rural lifestyle affords the Romantic writer-subject with a permanent access to a romanticizing nature. 2. A rural upbringing and lifestyle protects against the influences of urban enlightenment culture. 3. Tieck’s novel envisions the rural as an ambivalent space favourable to emergent Romantic aesthetics.

<em>This article presents of the role of rural development and it&rsquo;s conceived as strategy aimed at finding ways to improve the rural lives with participation of the rural people themselves so as to meet the required need of the rural area. According to World Bank (2005), rural development is the process of rural modernization and the monetization of the rural society leading to its transition from traditional isolation to integration with the national economy. Also, rural development is perceived as a process of not only increasing the level of per capital income in the rural areas but also the standard of living of the rural population measured by food and nutrition level, health education, housing, recreation and security. The following research question has been addressed &ndash; what is the potential contribution of rural community towards promotion of changes in social infrastructure of rural areas. Karnataka is a leading contributor to the country&#39;s production of food grain and milk.. Greening rural development can stimulate rural economies, create jobs and help maintain critical ecosystem services and strengthen climate resilience of the rural people. Conversely, environmental challenges can limit the attainment of development goal. The basic objective of this paper is to upgrade the living standard of the rural people by providing ways to develop rural parts of Karnataka and improving food security including those below poverty line (BPL) by restricting the rural urban migration. However, to provide optimum benefit to the grass-root level, there is a need for coordination among various Government agencies and other institutions engaged in rural development. This will also assist in minimizing the rural-urban gap in terms of basic infrastructure facilities essential for &lsquo;Sustainable Development&rsquo; of a settlement.</em>

<strong>India has been a land-living village and the Government of India has been executing numerous rural development programs for the upliftment of rural societies. Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) with their advantage of non- rigid, locality specific, felt need based, beneficiary oriented and committed nature of service have established a multitude of roles which can affect rural development. A number of NGOs have been playing a vital role in rural community development, besides Government interventions. It focuses on the process of rural development in India and analyzes the role of NGOs in the lives of rural communities. Recognizing that the Government alone was not able to meet the challenges of the passive enormous tasks in the process of rural development, the non-profit, voluntary and Non-Governmental Organizations had to be involved in different phases and activities at the global, regional and local levels. Thus, in future phases, both the GOs and NGOs have been actively involved in transforming the lives of the rural poor. This article highlights the impact of NGOs in rural development.</strong>

<strong>Abstract</strong> Agriculture credit plays a crucial role in shaping agricultural economy of any country. Agriculture credit helps the farmers to commercialise their farming. As the small and the marginal farmers produce only for their subsistence, they fail to generate sufficient surplus to reinvest on their lands, to increase their produce, make additional income and improve their standard of living. So agriculture credit plays an important role in rural development. Rural development is the process of improving the quality of life, and economic well being of people living in rural areas, often relatively isolated and sparsely populated areas. Traditionally rural development means exploitation of land intensive natural resources, such as agriculture and forestry. However changes in global networks and increased urbanisation have changed the character of rural areas like rural tourism, niche manufacturers and recreation have replaced the dominant economic drivers &nbsp;This study will highlight about the different sources of credit available in rural areas, and its importance. It will also study about the effect on overall development of rural economy. The study suggests that by accelerating agricultural credit prosperity can be achieved, which in turn leads to growth in economy. It will also study about the other activities (education, enterprises, and infrastructure) which help in rural development.&nbsp; With rapid technological adoption and the need to improve farming operations, role of credit in agriculture has become more crucial. Studies have also established that credit market in developing countries infuse growth in the economic system in several ways.

My first day of school - I had been waiting for this day for a year. I couldn't wait for the day to come when I got to go to school with my older brother and sister, who were in secondary, and my other brother who was in primary. The day had finally arrived and I was so scared. What was my teacher going to be like? Who else was going to be in my class? Were there any other girls? What do I do at school? As I had never gone to preschool I wasn't exactly sure what was going to happen. The school, which I was to attend for the next 13 years, was a Central School. At the time I began school it went from Kindergarten to Year 10, (School Certificate). When I was in Year 8 the school began teaching the Higher School Certificate through Telematics with Condobolin, Lake Cargelligo, and Ungarie schools. I need not have worried - My first day was everything that I wished for. There were many students at the school and I was placed in a class with 8 other children. I had a really nice teacher and there were lots of kids to play with. Except for school holidays, I was happy that this was where I was going to be for the next thirteen years. As I got older though I began to think that school was the last place I wanted to be. Everyone tells you that when you leave that you will want to go hack and you always answer with 'yeah, as if!' In spite of the official goals of support for rural tourism promulgated by governmental bodies, rural tourism remains a marginal phenomenon. This lack of confidence in rural tourism has relatively deep roots. The basis for this is almost of an ontological nature and consists in opposition, although subconscious, against &amp;ldquo;commodified authenticity&amp;rdquo;. Another source of this lack of confidence lies in the fact that rurality, the main attractive feature of tourism, has been substantially impaired as a result of trends in the 20th century. A third reason follows from the combination of rural tourism and mass recreation, as well as inadequate response by governmental bodies and authorities to the risks for regional stability, based on unmanaged mass tourism.

Women in rural areas face numerous economic and social barriers, primarily due to unequal access to public services, and limited educational and employment opportunities. Moreover, there is insufficient statistical data to adequately monitor gender equality indicators in rural and urban areas, leading to the economic and social invisibility of (rural) women. The aim of this article is to examine the inequalities between women and men in urban and rural areas in terms of basic socio-economic indicators, education, and employment. In order to contribute to the importance of gender-specific data and analysis, a secondary analysis of data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics’ [CBS] database regarding several indicators important for monitoring gender equality has been conducted. The data shows that there are inequalities between rural and urban areas and between the genders. In urban areas, significantly more women obtain a university degree than in rural areas, the employment rate of women in rural areas is many times lower than in urban areas, and the availability of certain public services, such as pre-school education (kindergarten), is still significantly lower despite positive changes in rural areas.

One of the biggest risks faced by the Romanian rural demography is the aging and depopulation of villages. With an often-precarious infrastructure, with a low level of education and health insurance, the rural population of Gorj County is faced with a new risk, that of dismissal of miners by reducing the activity of the Oltenia Energy Complex and the closure of the Motru-Rovinari coal mining operations. The lack of job offers, the insecurity of retraining and professional reconversion can generate a demographic exodus to the Romanian urban area or to other European countries. In these conditions, we propose some solutions to revive the economic activity in the area, offering the chance to preserve traditional agricultural activities, to develop rural tourism and to ensure good living conditions for the inhabitants of Gorj villages

This paper contextualises the analysis of hegemony from a spatial perspective. For this, it opens with a discussion of planetary urbanisation and the production of space as a spatial fix of capitalism - which posits space as a key instrument for the exercise of contemporary hegemony. The discursive analysis of the rejection of two plans for a new national park by Alpine communities in Italian-speaking Switzerland allows us to contextualise ‘the rural’ as a political force that is still present and influential. Communities that recognise themselves as rural do not have hegemonic ambitions, but can contribute to the emergence or decline of other actors who wish to strive for hegemony instead. In this sense, the paper concludes that in a capitalist society increasingly marked by planetary urbanisation, it is crucial in the analysis of hegemony to fully consider rural actors as well and not invisibilise their motivations – as these can significantly alter the existing hegemonic balance.

Inspired by the potential of Information and Communication Technologies, henceforth ICTs, for socio-economic development, and supported by a university based technology and business incubator, Rural Production Company, henceforth RPC, was set up in 2007 employing an ICT-mediated distributed production model. This paper reveals how RPC, initially an exploratory project whose key innovation was its Internet kiosk-facilitated model of crafts production and local empowerment, morphed into a social enterprise catering to global demands. The context of innovation provided by the Incubator led to a transformation of an ICT4D (ICT for Development) project into a business venture through the practice of formal and informal questioning at every stage of its implementation. This paper focuses on the iterative method adopted while highlighting the role of the incubator in the overall design and development process of the enterprise. This paper is a reflexive mapping of the organization’s evolution from the original research agenda of outsourcing production cum rural employment, to one that privileges local networks both as a conscious business strategy and as an arena for collaborative change for human development.
