AbstractThis paper presents a study conducted at major rotaries for quantifying the traffic noise levels by considering the vehicle volume and their respective honking as governing parameters for heterogeneous traffic. Traffic volume and traffic noise data was collected using a digital video camera and a class 1 sound level meter, respectively. The traffic noise data was analysed using noise tools for identifying the noise level variation. The data collected was subjected to statistical analysis for light, medium and heavy vehicles, and their contribution towards noise levels is proven to be effective with the forthright fact that, heavy vehicles and their corresponding honking were majorly affecting the equivalent noise level compared to other vehicular proportion. An equivalent noise level [LAeq (dB)] rise of 2 to 6 dB (A) is solely caused by heavy vehicles, which is an important observation to be considered for traffic noise analysis at the rotaries. Based on the obtained results from one of the rotaries, noise prediction model is developed for estimating the LAeq (dB), which is able to predict the noise levels with good precision when validated with the data collected at second rotary intersection for different vehicle volumes.

This study quantified the effect of rotary size, platform speed, cluster attachment time, milk yield and end-of-milking criteria on cow throughput, operator efficiency and return on investment. A model was developed to predict the mean and standard deviation of cow milking duration for a given milk yield using milking data collected from commercial dairy farms in New Zealand. After accounting for the effect of end-of-milking criteria, this estimate was used to calculate the expected cow throughput and operator efficiency for a given platform speed, rotary size and cluster attachment time. The economic return of investing in rotaries of 44–80 bails, relative to a 40-bail rotary, was evaluated using a 25-year internal rate of return. The economic return of installing automatic cluster removers (ACR) was also examined. Estimated cow throughput increased with increasing platform speed and ACR threshold for a 50-bail rotary (a common rotary size) and the largest single gain in cow throughput came from changing the ACR threshold from 0.2 to 0.4 kg/min. Further increases had less impact, especially at lower platform speeds. However, for larger rotaries, maximum operator efficiency could be achieved using a variety of platform speeds and end-of-milking criteria. A larger rotary was required to achieve maximum potential operator efficiency, for a given cluster attachment time, as milk yield was increased. Increasing the minimum cluster attachment time decreased maximum potential operator efficiency. Consequently, operator ability and anticipated milk yield are key parameters when selecting the number of bails in a new-build rotary. Seventy- and 80-bail rotaries were generally not more operator efficient than 60-bail rotaries. Economically, the 50-bail rotary allowed the greatest labour saving per dollar invested for a typical farm conversion in Canterbury, New Zealand, although the ultimate choice of rotary size depends on the individual farm situation. The internal rate of return for installing ACR decreased with increasing rotary size, but was always positive. Farmers should carefully evaluate their options before investing in a new rotary.

Abstract The paper presents results of research on influence of fatigue metal damage of the inner race of bearing on vibration in different frequencies. The active diagnostics experiments were conducted on application of vibroacoustics methods for technical condition monitoring. Provides an overview of materials and process analysis of rolling bearings wear. The bearing damage of the inner race have been simulating. The research was conducted on special research-educational test bench for vibration monitoring for rotaring machinery. For the identification of the symptoms of the defects in the vibration signal the analysis of time realization and frequency transformation of the vibration have been conducted. For the comparison of the vibration of good and damage bearings signals registered for different frequencies have been presented in form of spectrograms and RMS distributions.

This article examines the political activism of conservative civil society in postrevolutionary Mexico through the lens of American service clubs. It focuses on the case of the Rotary Club of Monterrey, which gathered the city's industrial elites and some of the most vocal opponents of the Mexican state, particularly the presidency of Lázaro Cárdenas (1934–40). Monterrey is significant because of its economic and political clout; by the 1930s, it was the powerhouse of heavy industry and in the 1940s a key center of support for the Partido Acción Nacional. After Monterrey Rotarians dissolved their club in 1936, following a disagreement with Rotary International's policy against political involvement, they regrouped and established throughout Mexico the only service club that blended pro-business goals with right-wing hispanidad ideology: the Club Sembradores de Amistad. This story illustrates how conservative civil society in Mexico adopted seemingly contradictory transnational influences (Catholic Hispanist thought and American service clubs) to challenge the postrevolutionary state in a less confrontational way.

It was hypothesised that large rotary dairies (>60 clusters) are not more operator efficient than medium-sized rotaries (40–60 clusters). This was tested by collecting and analysing milking data, during peak and late lactation, from block calving herds milked in rotary dairies fitted with electronic milk meters. Data were collected from a total of 61 unique farms around New Zealand, with rotary dairies ranging in size from 28 to 80 clusters, for two 5-day periods during spring (September–November 2010; 47 farms; average milk yield 23.1 kg/day) and autumn (February–April 2011; 60 farms; average milk yield 16.4 kg/day). A telephone survey was conducted to collect basic farm details: size, land area, the number of herds managed (including hospital herds), number of operators in the dairy and total labour input. A site visit was conducted to collect data such as the number of bails/stalls over the entrance and exit of the platform. The herd management software on each farm was programmed to record similar fields for each of the six machine manufacturers represented. Variables recorded included cow, date, identification time, bail number, milk yield, milking duration, and average milk flow rate. Calculations were performed to determine the number of cows milked and milk harvested per hour as well as the operator efficiency values for these measures and an estimate of cluster utilisation. Mixed models were used to determine the relationship between the dependent variables, cows milked per hour, milk harvested per hour, cows milked per operator per hour, milk harvested per operator per hour, and cluster utilisation, and the independent variables collected. Cows milked and milk harvested per hour increased linearly with rotary size, during both spring and autumn and there was a quadratic relationship between operator efficiency measures and rotary size, which peaked at ~60 clusters. Cluster utilisation, the amount of time clusters were harvesting milk out of the plant running time, was estimated at 46 ± 6%. Larger rotary dairies on average achieved greater throughput; however, they were not more operator efficient than medium-sized rotaries. Thus, large rotary dairies are best suited to farms where the additional throughput is required.

AbstractThe social history of colonial Southeast Asia has often been narrated through the lens of ‘plural societies’, where various ethnic groups rarely mixed. This article challenges that narrative by pointing to traditions of multi-ethnic interaction, particularly in port cities, dating back to an early modern age of commerce. Although colonialism introduced new racial hierarchies that reinforced stark ethnic divides, it also created arenas where these could be transgressed. In the interwar era, international organizations, such as Rotary clubs, provided a way of breaking the colour bar of colonial society and a venue for multi-ethnic representation in a shared associational space. They converged with existing notions of civic duty, while promoting a public intellectual culture in cities for both men and women, as well as a new sense of regionalism. In ethnically divided Malaya, Asian Rotarians questioned the importance of race and debated the possibilities of a multi-ethnic future for the nation. While such cosmopolitan ideals were more vulnerable in the post-colonial era of nation-states, the organizations of the interwar era left important legacies for civil society in the region.

In this retrospective study, it was investigated whether the use of a fifth-generation rotary system (ProTaper Next) resulted in improved radiological root filling quality compared to a first-generation counterpart (ProFile) in a controlled student course setting. Cases treated by fourth-year dental students in the 2020/21 academic year were collected and compared to those treated in 2019/20. Root canals in the former group were all instrumented using the ProTaper Next system, and the latter using the ProFile system. All other clinical parameters were similar between the two academic years, including the time of pre-clinical teaching, hands-on course hours, endodontic auxiliaries, and chemicals used for treatment. After excluding patients who were not available or refused to give their informed consent to this study (n = 20), and excluding teeth with missing or poor radiographs (n = 16), the fillings in 178 roots could be assessed by two calibrated observers blinded to the system that was used. The primary outcome was the radiographic quality of the root fillings according to the five-scale modified Molander score. The secondary outcome was the number of separated rotary instruments by group. Both instrumenting systems resulted in a similar number of "excellent" root fillings (score I), 59 % in the ProTaper Next group and 60% in the ProFile group, with no statistically significant difference in outcome scores between groups (Probability > ChiSquare = 0.70). Furthermore, there was merely one separated instrument in the ProTaper Next group, and none in the ProFile group (Fisher's exact test, p = 1.00). Composite work tools have many components, and complex shapes when compared to standard tools such as rotaries and plows. In addition, the component durability for the tools is critical because the load varies severely according to the soil conditions. This study predicts the fatigue life of the hub bearing in composite work tooling. The loads acting on the tools were measured based on field tests, and the loads acting on the hub bearing were derived using the load reconstruction method. The static safety factor and fatigue life of the hub bearing, loads, and contact stress acting on the inner and outer raceways and presence of truncation were analytically predicted based on the derived loads. The fatigue life of the bearing changed depending on the preload amount of the hub bearing. The bearing life was more than 3000 h for preloads of less than 40 μm, which satisfied the target life of 1200 h. The load acting on the inner and outer raceways of the bearing decreased and then increased as the preload amount of the bearing rose. The bearing contact area, maximum contact stress, and number of balls increased as the load applied to the hub bearing rose. The fatigue life, load, contact stress, and static safety factor of the hub bearing met all requirements, and no truncation occurred on the inner and outer raceways of the bearing. The test verified the achievement of the target life of 1200 h and confirmed that there was no breakage, cracking, or deformation of the bearing.

Most transportation engineers around the world, and now in the United States, are relatively familiar with roundabouts and their operational and safety benefits. Although roundabouts are becoming increasingly common, drivers and even engineering professionals often contend with mixed messages about roundabout design and operation. In a world speckled with all manner of spiral roundabouts, signalized roundabouts, traffic circles, gyratories, and rotaries, is it any wonder that confusion, and public resistance, often persists? These mixed messages may represent the greatest hurdle to implementation, public acceptance, and safe operation of multi-lane roundabouts in particular. Within North America and across the globe, circular intersection designs that appear relatively similar to users can in fact require significantly different driver behaviors, depending on whether they are configured with a continuous circle road or a network of crossing roadways. This distinction can be of critical importance for roadway designers and agencies, elected officials and other policymakers, road user education and licensing, traffic enforcement, mapping and GPS navigation, and safe operation of autonomous vehicles. This paper aims to provide an overview of existing definitions, explore the nature of conflict points for each design, provide a framework modeling method for analysis, and provide globally applicable definitions for roundabout features for use in design, education, policy, enforcement, and research. This paper is focused primarily on roundabout design guidance and operations within the United States, but places these practices within the global context, such that the definitions and analyses provided can be applied to all forms of roundabout intersections around the world.

Background and context: Aparajita Society Against Cancer is a not-for-profit 100% volunteer-based organization run by cancer survivors in Bangladesh. Aparajita provides moral, psychological, and financial supports and connects cancer patients and their families with appropriate treatment facilities. Aparajita also runs awareness and educational campaigns and screening camos for early detection. Funding always remains a critical problem in conducting its activities. Though traditional fund raising through donations remain an important means, Aparajita explored other ways of funding its activities. Aim: The aim is to build win–win partnerships with like-minded organizations to secure funding for Aparajita´s activities. Strategy/Tactics: Aparajita recognized that providing due credit to like-minded partner organizations can encourage viable partnerships to share costs, which can reduce cost of funding by Aparajita. Aparajita identified Rotary Clubs as potential partners for jointly organizing events as they are also engaged in community service and not having much activities in this area. Two of its members are Rotarians, who helped in connecting Aparajita with Rotary Clubs. Program process: Aparajita shared its activities, successes, impacts and proposed activities with 1 of the Rotary Clubs and explained our proposed mode of collaborations, including sharing of costs and impacts created by each. Then we worked out a budget and often provided the lead role to Rotary Club in organizing and requesting other clubs to join. Costs and returns: Aparajita greatly reduced its own share of costs while improving the physical targets and qualitative achievements. What was learned: We learnt that establishing partnerships in jointly organizing activities can reduce pressure on funds otherwise raised through donations. We can achieve more and increase the number of volunteers. This is very much sustainable.

The healthcare sector is struggling to become more environmentally friendly compared to other industries, evidently seen by the contribution to global emissions. These struggles have elicited some research on sustainable methods regarding the lifecycle of medical devices. Indeed, the World Health Organization (WHO) encourages the reuse of equipment and ethical donations, namely for the sake of the environment and sustainable global health. However, there is a lack of synthesis–multiple greener alternatives to the current healthcare system are developing without a connection to each other, hindering an increase in sustainability. Thus, there is a lack of global organization and standardization in medical equipment lifecycles. Inspired by the findings and guidelines of the Safe and Sustainable Medical Equipment Supply Subgroup (SASMES) of the International Rotary Fellowship of Healthcare Professionals, we created the Re-processing Medical Equipment: Rotarian Research Group for the Environment (Re-MERGE) to expand on these challenges. Re-MERGE follows the life cycle of medical devices in the United States of America through its initial stages of classification and various regulatory pathways, the middle stage of post-market requirements, and the end stage of disposal or donation and reprocessing. Our findings indicate that current medical device end-stages are inefficient, damaging to the environment, and burdensome to donation recipients; however, existing processes can provide improvements to medical device end-stage methods by drastically reducing environmental damage, improving healthcare globally, and increasing sustainability in the field. We identify that more research is needed to connect the implications of different medical device end stages. Additionally, we encourage the findings to be implemented to create more sustainable, effective methods of medical device disposal, donation, and reprocessing.

This study aims to see the results of learning mathematics through the application of the Rotating Trio Exchange model to class VIII-1 students of SMP Negeri 3 Pantai Labu. The subjects of this study were all 32 students in class VIII-1, consisting of 15 boys and 17 girls. This research was conducted in 2 cycles. Each cycle is carried out in 2 meetings. The initial data comes from the value document owned by the researcher, namely the results of daily tests. In the initial conditions, the results of learning mathematics for class VIII-1 students averaged 61.3 with a proportion of mastery learning of 44% (14 people). While the learning completeness requirements were determined based on the KKM score of 70. The results of the research in cycle I showed an increase in learning outcomes in mathematics, namely: an average score of 81 with a proportion of mastery learning of 66% (21 people). The results of the first cycle showed that this research was not successful. Because research success is determined if students can complete learning by 75%. Research failure in cycle I became the basis for conducting research in cycle II. After learning improvements were made, the results of learning mathematics in cycle II increased, namely the average value of 89 with a proportion of mastery learning of 91% (29 people). Because the proportion of learning completeness in cycle II has exceeded the success indicators of this study, it can be interpreted that the application of the Rotating Trio Exchange type cooperative learning model can improve student learning outcomes for class VIII-1 UPT SPF SMP Negeri 3 Pantai Labu Semester I Academic Year 2021/2022.

Resumo: Este artigo teve por objetivo discutir potencialidades do grupo focal (GF) para o desenvolvimento de pesquisa sobre Vigilância Sanitária e Atenção Primária à Saúde. Foram realizados GF: com técnicos da vigilância sanitária municipal e profissionais das equipes de saúde da família. Para planejamento e montagem, foram observadas questões orçamentárias e estruturais, organizados roteiros, estabelecidas responsabilidades e selecionados os participantes. Os GF transcorreram com duplas de moderadores e observadores, suporte tecnológico e respeito aos aspectos éticos. Desafios não suplantaram potencialidades do uso da técnica, como a possibilidade de vocalização de profissionais da Vigilância Sanitária pela especificidade das atividades regulatórias, a neutralidade do ambiente para a realização da discussão entre os participantes, a oportunidade de diálogo gerada pela interação e a possibilidade de revisitar a realidade pelo olhar do outro. Potential of the focus group technique for research in health surveillance and primary health careAbstract: This article aimed to highlight the potential of the focus group (FG) for the development of research on Health Surveillance and Primary Health Care. GF were performed: with the municipal health sanitation and the professionals of the family health teams. To the planning and setting, in which not allowed, and the organized rotaries, greens and the tasks the storages. The FGs had double sessions of moderators and observers, technological support and respect for ethical aspects. Challenges did not supplant the potentialities of the use of the technique, as a possibility of vocalization of health professionals. The discipline of regulatory activities, a neutrality of the environment for an accomplishment of the task among the participants, an opportunity for dialogue generated by the interaction and a possibility to revisit a research by the method of a rigorous research technique is necessary for a scientific production of quality.Keywords: Focus Groups; Health Surveillance; Primary Health Care.

Abstract What do you think of when you hear the words: milking equipment? Do you think of the different brands? Boumatic, DeLaval, GEA or Lely? Do you think of parlours, parallels or rotaries? Do you think of teat cups, liners or rubber hosing? Do you think of teat dips and cleaners? If you think of mostly hardware – I can’t blame you. If I look at DeLaval, the company I work for, it has a 136-year history of offering dairy producers revolutionary innovations. In 1878, Gustaf de Laval patented the cream separator, which was the basis for forming our company in 1883. (That was even before Old MacDonald’s farm.) DeLaval has since made other significant improvements in animal health and welfare, milk production, food safety and labor efficiency with technologies like: the vacuum operated milking machine (1917); a commercial rotary (1930); animal identification systems (1978); variable speed vacuum pumps (1977); milking robots (late 1990s); an on-farm lab called Herd Navigator; Clover-shaped liners (2013); a teat spray robot (2015); a body condition score camera (2015); and our latest robot, the VMSTM V300 (2018). DeLaval has been pushing the Brave New World for many years. Today, we have a software program called DelProTM Farm Manager – a powerful data management tool providing valuable information and analysis. It enables the dairy producer to make efficient daily actions and for advisors to monitor and provide profitable and sustainable management actions. As animal scientists, what is your role in this? One avenue is to consider working with the data to provide relevant summaries on what the information is telling us. You can have a role in influencing management changes for dairy farms for the future. While not all farms have access to this data and information, your research projects can help dairy farmers wanting to make improvements to their operations. Producers need non-bias, third party sources they can reference. The dairy farming world is changing; we all need to keep up. Make sure the research that you decide upon fits into this rapid pace.

The present paper deals with the study on design of rotary intersection at RAMALINGAPURAM junction This study leads to redesign the roundabout or to provide suitable alternative at intersections. The basic principle considered for design includes the principle of uniformity and simplicity, minimize conflict points, alignment and profile.The capacity studies of intersections of Nellore city was calculated based on the established norms of the Indian road congress (IRC: 65-1976). The performance analysis of rotaries is based on various parameters such as traffic volume, weaving traffic, capacity of weaving section. The resulting performance leads to a new model development. The traffic volume survey and geometric design survey is conducted.

The rise of far-right parties across Europe and their entrance into government at the local, if not regional or national, levels pose challenges for established civil society actors. This article draws on early findings from an ongoing research project in order to present two case studies of far-right local governments in small industrial towns in France and Italy: Hayange and Sant’Agata Bolognese. Keying in on these local administrations’ approaches to civil society and drawing on semi-structured interviews with local politicians and trade union actors, the article identifies preliminary patterns in far-right local government relations with civil society organizations (including trade unions), including a bypassing or outright attacking of established associations deemed hostile (especially left-wing ones) in favor of those deemed politically more palatable. This exclusionary and partisan approach to civil society notably coexists alongside other aspects of far-right local governance centered on a performatively enacted claim to serve the entire community, most notably with the highly visible provision of non-excludable public goods such as public fountains and rotaries. These considerations provide a basis for ongoing and future work on far-right interventions in different areas of civil society, in different countries, and in light of a broader spectrum of actor perspectives.

Currently, we are more and more aware of head injuries, concussion and the risks and dangers of athletes being exposed to long term risk and injury.Twenty years or so ago, coaches relied on side line assessment to decide as to whether an athlete who“has had his/her bells rung” should return to play. Currently however, there is much more sophisticated sideline assessment (such as Impact) and other laptop instruments. There are many, many reasons why athletes should undergo pre-and post-test assessment as well as sideline assessment. These will be summarily discussed. These issues have also been discussed by:Arginteanu (2019) and others have clearly specified the need to be concerned and observant regardingthe concept of return to play and even return to the classroom. Hernandez, Giordano, Goubran, Parivash, Grant, Zeineh and Camarillo (2019) have discussed sports related concussions and Corman, Adame, Tsa, Ruston, Beaumont, Kamrath, Liu, Posteher, Tremblayand van Raalt, (2019) have published on sports related concussions. Rose, Yeates, Nguyen, McCarthy, Ercole, Pizzimenti, (2019)have written on youth tackle football. Engleman (2013) writing in The Rotarian pp 27-30 suggests that “youth football leagues should require coaches and encourage all parents, to take the “Heads IUP” training course available at www.cdc.gov. The web site of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention” There is much concern about CTE (Chronic traumatic encephalopathy- which is a progressive degenerative disease of the brain. This is usually discerned in individuals who have some type of history of repetitive brain trauma or injury. This could include soccer, basketball, baseball, softball (at least many players DO wear helmets) and wrestling (in terms of wrestling, players do wear protective devices for their ears, but still may suffer concussions and head injuries. Shaughnessy and Laman (2012) have provided an excellent review of evidence based intervention and treatment/rehabilitation of traumatic brain injury. This was published in the Research Journal in Organizational Psychology and Educational Studies and is a serious review of the literature in this realm.
