AbstractThe purpose of the Reliability-Based Design Optimization (RBDO) is to find the best compromise between safety and cost. Therefore, several methods, such as the Hybrid Method (HM) and the Optimum Safety Factor (OSF) method, are developed to achieve this purpose. However, these methods have been applied only on static cases and some special dynamic ones. But, in real mechanical applications, structures are subject to random vibrations and these vibrations can cause a fatigue damage. So, in this paper, we propose an extension of these methods in the case of structures under random vibrations and then demonstrate their efficiency. Also, a Robust Hybrid Method (RHM) is then developed to overcome the difficulties of the classical one. A numerical application is then used to present the advantages of the modified hybrid method for treating problem of structures subject to random vibration considering fatigue damage.

Visible-light-driven photocatalysis is a robust technology for amending the negative effect of pollutants on the environment with a minimum energy use. Herein, we describe a simple approach to producing such a photocatalyst by coupling conjugated polyvinyl chloride (cPVC) with the TiO2 nanotube (TNT) thermolysis method. By activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to make a cPVC/TNT/PMS system using visible light as the source, we obtain a significant enhancement in the photocatalytic performance. We show that PMS use at a concentration of 3 mM can fully degrade rhodamine B (RhB) solution at a remarkably high concentration (200 mg L-1) just in 120 min under visible light. The cPVC/TNT/PMS system also shows excellent stability in recycling tests for at least five times. Further, by confining the active species in photocatalytic reactions, we report a thorough understanding of the extent of involvement from those radicals. Our work presents a robust approach to make a high-performance, visible-light-driven photocatalyst, which can be potentially used in practice.

Text classification has always been an interesting issue in the research area of natural language processing (NLP). While entering the era of big data, a good text classifier is critical to achieving NLP for scientific big data analytics. With the ever-increasing size of text data, it has posed important challenges in developing effective algorithm for text classification. Given the success of deep neural network (DNN) in analyzing big data, this article proposes a novel text classifier using DNN, in an effort to improve the computational performance of addressing big text data with hybrid outliers. Specifically, through the use of denoising autoencoder (DAE) and restricted Boltzmann machine (RBM), our proposed method, named denoising deep neural network (DDNN), is able to achieve significant improvement with better performance of antinoise and feature extraction, compared to the traditional text classification algorithms. The simulations on benchmark datasets verify the effectiveness and robustness of our proposed text classifier.

One of the fundamental challenges in geophysics is the calculation of distribution models for physical properties in the subsurface that accurately reproduce the measurements obtained in the survey and are geologically plausible in the context of the study area. This is known as inverse modeling. Performing a 3D joint inversion of multimodal geophysical data is a computationally intensive task. Additionally, since it involves a modeling process, finding a solution that matches the desired characteristics requires iterative calculations, which can take days or even weeks to obtain final results. In this paper, we propose a robust numerical solution for 3D joint inversion of gravimetric and magnetic data with Gramian-based structural similarity and structural direction constraints using parallelization as a high-performance computing technique, which allows us to significantly reduce the total processing time based on the available Random-Access Memory (RAM) and Video Random-Access Memory (VRAM)and improve the efficiency of interpretation. The solution is implemented in the high-level programming languages Fortran and Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) Fortran, capable of optimal resource management while being straightforward to implement. Through the analysis of performance and computational costs of serial, parallel, and hybrid implementations, we conclude that as the inversion domain expands, the processing speed could increase from 4× up to 100× times faster, rendering it particularly advantageous for applications in larger domains. We tested our algorithm with two synthetic data sets and field data, showing better results than standard separate inversion. The proposed method will be useful for joint geological and geophysical interpretation of gravimetric and magnetic data used in exploration geophysics for example minerals, ore, and petroleum search and prospecting. Its application will significantly increase the reliability of physical-geological models and accelerate the process of data processing.

Анотація:
Novel synthesis of efficient noble-metal-free electrocatalysts for both oxygen reduction/evolution reaction (ORR/OER) in energy conversion devices (e.g., fuel cells, metal–air batteries) is of essential significance for further sustainable development. This paper reports a facile synthesis of Fe–N–C species-modified carbon nanotubes (F/N-CNTs) for ORR application by directly pyrolyzing a fluffy hybrid precursor at a moderate temperature ([Formula: see text]C) in Ar. The fluffy hybrid precursors consisting of nitro-hydrochloric-acid-treated CNTs, melamine and Fe[Formula: see text] species are prepared via a freeze-drying method. On account of the synergistic effect of various active sites, including pyridine–N, Fe–Nx and Fe3C, and the high conductivity of the CNTs matrix, the as-obtained F/N-CNT electrocatalysts exhibit excellent ORR activities, comparable to commercial Pt/C. The addition of N heteroatoms, the dosage of Fe and the pyrolysis temperature highly influence the ORR properties of the F/N-CNT samples. The typical F/N-CNT sample obtained at the optimized parameters shows an onset potential of 1.06[Formula: see text]V and a half-wave potential of 0.91[Formula: see text]V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) in an alkaline condition, more positive than those (1.01[Formula: see text]V and 0.88[Formula: see text]V versus RHE) of Pt/C. The F/N-CNT exhibits outstanding bifunctional ORR/OER activity and excellent methanol tolerance, and the F/N-CNT-based Zn–air battery (ZAB) with an open-circuit voltage (OCV) of 1.405[Formula: see text]V presents a current density of 125[Formula: see text]mA[Formula: see text]cm[Formula: see text] and a power density of 76.5[Formula: see text]mW[Formula: see text]cm[Formula: see text]; these electrocatalytic properties are highly superior to Pt/C. The direct pyrolysis of fluffy hybrid precursors provides a concise but robust technical platform to achieve high-performance noble-metal-free electrocatalysts with ORR/OER activities superior to Pt/C.

Aiming to improve the photocatalytic properties of transition metal perovskites to be used as robust photoanodes, [LaFeO3]1−x/[SrTiO3]x nanocomposites (LFO1−x/STOx) are considered. This hybrid structure combines good semiconducting properties and an interesting intrinsic remanent polarization. All the studied samples were fabricated using a solid-state method followed by high-energy ball milling, and they were subsequently deposited by spray coating. The synthesized compounds were demonstrated to possess orthorhombic (Pnma) and cubic (Pm3¯m) structures for LFO and STO, respectively, with an average grain size of 55–70 nm. The LFO1−x/STOx nanocomposites appeared to exhibit high visible light absorption, corresponding to band gaps of 2.17–3.21 eV. Our findings show that LFO0.5/STO0.5 is the optimized heterostructure; it achieved a high photocurrent density of 11 μA/cm2 at 1.23 V bias vs. RHE and an applied bias photo-to-current efficiency of 4.1 × 10−3% at 0.76 V vs. RHE, as demonstrated by the photoelectrochemical measurements. These results underline the role of the two phases intermixing LFO and STO at the appropriate content to yield a high-performing photoanode ascribed to efficient charge separation and transfer. This suggests that LFO0.5/STO0.5 could be a potential candidate for the development of efficient photoanodes for hydrogen generation via photoelectrocatalytic water splitting.

Abstract: Sensitive data is being used more and more in online communication these days. Therefore, internet consumers' top concern is data security. The best course of action is to utilize a cryptography technique that encrypts data, translates it over the internet, and then decrypts it back to the original data. The process of securely transmitting data is the focus of the field of cryptography. The intention is to prevent eavesdroppers from comprehending a message while enabling the intended recipients to receive it correctly. A collection of methods known as cryptography are used to jumble or hide data so that only a person skilled in data restoration may access it in its original format. Cryptography offers modern computer systems a robust and costeffective foundation for maintaining data secrecy and confirming data indignity. While our traditional cryptography techniques, like RSA signature and AES encryption, function well on computers with respectable amounts of RAM and computing capacity, they are not well suited to the realm of embedded systems and sensor networks. As a result, techniques for lightweight cryptography are put forth to address numerous issues with traditional cryptography. This work develops a new hybrid method of plaintext encryption with the goal of adding to the body of knowledge in the field of classical cryptography. For an additional degree of protection, the cryptosystem employs three distinct numerical and alphabetical keys in cipher. Super Cipher is the name given for the new proposed cipher.

Abstract Although researches on non-noble metal electrocatalysts have been made some progress recently, their performance in proton exchange membrane water electrolyzer is still incomparable to that of noble-metal-based catalysts. Therefore, it is a more practical way to improve the utilization of precious metals in electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in the acidic medium. Herein, nanostructured IrCo@IrCoO x core–shell electrocatalysts composed of IrCo alloy core and IrCoO x shell were synthesized through a simple colloidally synthesis and calcination method. As expected, the hybrid IrCo-200 NPs with petal-like morphology show the best OER activities in acidic electrolytes. They deliver lower overpotential and better electrocatalytic kinetics than pristine IrCo alloy and commercial Ir/C, reaching a low overpotential (j = 10 mA cm−2) of 259 mV (versus RHE) and a Tafel slope of 59 mV dec−1. The IrCo-200 NPs displayed robust durability with life time of about 55 h in acidic solution under a large current density of 50 mA cm−2. The enhanced electrocatalytic activity may be associated with the unique metal/amorphous metal oxide core–shell heterostructure, allowing the improved charge transferability. Moreover, the *OH-rich amorphous shell functions as the active site for OER and prevents the further dissolution of the metallic core and thus ensures high stability.

ABSTRACT This work presents the development of a rotated-hybrid Riemann solver for solving relativistic hydrodynamics (RHD) problems with the hybridization of the HLL and HLLC (or Rusanov and HLLC) approximate Riemann solvers. A standalone application of the HLLC Riemann solver can produce spurious numerical artefacts when it is employed in conjunction with Godunov-type high-order methods in the presence of discontinuities. It has been found that a rotated-hybrid Riemann solver with the proposed HLL/HLLC (Rusanov/HLLC) scheme could overcome the difficulty of the spurious numerical artefacts and presents a robust solution for the Carbuncle problem. The proposed rotated-hybrid Riemann solver provides sufficient numerical dissipation to capture the behaviour of strong shock waves for RHD. Therefore, in this work, we focus on two benchmark test cases (odd–even decoupling and double-Mach reflection problems) and investigate two astrophysical phenomena, the relativistic Richtmyer–Meshkov instability and the propagation of a relativistic jet. In all presented test cases, the Carbuncle problem is shown to be eliminated by employing the proposed rotated-hybrid Riemann solver. This strategy is problem-independent, straightforward to implement and provides a consistent robust numerical solution when combined with Godunov-type high-order schemes for RHD.

The reliable mapping of virtual networks is one of the hot issues in network virtualization researches. Unlike the traditional protection mechanisms based on redundancy and recovery mechanisms, we take the solution of the survivable virtual topology routing problem for reference to ensure that the rest of the mapped virtual networks keeps connected under a single node failure condition in the substrate network, which guarantees the completeness of the virtual network and continuity of services. In order to reduce the cost of the substrate network, a hybrid reliable heuristic mapping method based on survivable virtual networks (Hybrid-RHM-SVN) is proposed. In Hybrid-RHM-SVN, we formulate the reliable mapping problem as an integer linear program. Firstly, we calculate the primary-cut set of the virtual network subgraph where the failed node has been removed. Then, we use the ant colony optimization algorithm to achieve the approximate optimal mapping. The links in primary-cut set should select a substrate path that does not pass through the substrate node corresponding to the virtual node that has been removed first. The simulation results show that the acceptance rate of virtual networks, the average revenue of mapping, and the recovery rate of virtual networks are increased compared with the existing reliable mapping algorithms, respectively.

Summary Identification of reservoir connectivity is critical for reliable production predictions and field-development planning. Field-scale connectivity is particularly important at early stages when costly development decisions are made. However, in developing fields, knowledge about reservoir flow-property distribution is subject to significant uncertainty. In addition, initial measurements of the dynamic response of the reservoir are too limited to resolve reservoir properties at a high-enough resolution. Therefore, reservoir identification problems must account for the limited data resolution and significant geologic uncertainty, and emphasize the importance of field-scale reservoir connectivity estimation. Under such conditions, parameterization of reservoir properties should primarily describe the large-scale flow connectivity. Parameterization techniques that are derived from prior information, such as the principal component analysis (PCA) or Karhunen-Loeve transform (KLT), can be biased by errors in the prior knowledge, whereas prior-independent methods such as the Wavelet or Fourier-based image-compression techniques are robust but do not take advantage of prior knowledge. We propose an effective approach for describing reservoir continuity by combining prior-dependent and prior-independent parameterizations to form a hybrid technique that possesses the advantages of both methods. We introduce a robust hybrid parameterization approach that is less sensitive to possible errors in the prior model and yet quite effective in reproducing geologic features if the prior knowledge is reliable. We apply the new method with conventional parameter reduction and sparse history-matching methods and show that the proposed method can identify reservoir continuity from available dynamic data under both correct and incorrect prior knowledge. In identification of reservoir continuity from limited (low-resolution) available data (particularly at early stages of development), accounting for geologic uncertainty becomes imperative. Hybrid parameterization offers a robust parameterization option that incorporates the prior knowledge about reservoir connectivity when it is reliable and reduces the degrading effect of prior information when the prior model is incorrect.

Robust optimization is concerned with finding an optimal solution that is insensitive to uncertainties and has been widely used in solving real-world optimization problems. However, most robust optimization methods suffer from high computational costs and poor convergence. To alleviate the above problems, an improved robust optimization algorithm is proposed. First, to reduce the computational cost, the second-order Taylor series surrogate model is used to approximate the robustness indices. Second, to strengthen the convergence, the state transition algorithm is studied to explore the whole search space for candidate solutions, while sequential quadratic programming is adopted to exploit the local area. Third, to balance the robustness and optimality of candidate solutions, a preference-based selection mechanism is investigated which effectively determines the promising solution. The proposed robust optimization method is applied to obtain the optimal solutions of seven examples that are subject to decision variables and parameter uncertainties. Comparative studies with other robust optimization algorithms (robust genetic algorithm, Kriging metamodel-assisted robust optimization method, etc.) show that the proposed method can obtain accurate and robust solutions with less computational cost.

Steganography is a technique for hiding digital messages into other digital media, such as images, audio, video, and others so that the messages can be disguised and not directly visible to the human vision. There are two kinds of steganography by domain, i.e., spatial domain and frequency domain [7]. Least Significant Bit (LSB) is a popular method in spatial domains [8]. LSB is not a new method. However, this method has many advantages, such as simple algorithm and the quality of imperceptibility of relatively good stego-image [6, 9]. This makes the LSB still open for more development and further research. This paper presents the image hiding technique using Least Significant Bit (LSB) steganography based on hybrid edge detection that maximized the data embedding capacity of the cover image. The performance of the system is evaluated for hybrid edge detection using pairs of various edge detection techniques such as Canny, Kirsch, Sobel, and Prewitt. The results of the proposed steganography approach are estimated for different payload capacities based on Mean Square Error (MSE), Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), Structural Similarity Index Metrics (SSIM), and Universal Image Quality Index (UQI). It is examined that the proposed approach performs better than the existing state of arts for image steganography.

A new hybrid control scheme combining input shaping technique with robust sliding mode control is proposed for a gantry crane system. A cascade sliding-mode controller is designed to control the trolley position and eliminate the sway of load. The transient vibration is reduced further for safety problems by the input shaping technique which utilizes zero-vibration-derivative (ZVD) robust input shapers. This method can not only realize the accurate position of the trolley and eliminate the sway of the load and residual vibration, but also completely eliminate the chattering of conventional sliding mode control and improve the robustness of system. The simulation results proved its effectiveness.

Data security and data hiding have been studied throughout history. Studies show that steganography and encryption methods are used together to hide data and avoid detection. Large amounts of data hidden in the cover multimedia distort the image, which can be detected in visual and histogram analysis. The proposed method will solve two major drawbacks of the current methods: the limitation imposed on the size of the data to be hidden in the cover multimedia and low resistance to steganalysis after stego-operation. In the proposed method, plaintext data are divided into fixed-sized bits whose corresponding matching bits’ indices in the cover multimedia are accumulated. Thus, the hidden data are composed of the indices in the cover multimedia, causing no change in it, thus enabling considerable amounts of plaintext to be hidden. The proposed method also has high resistance to known steganalysis methods because it does not cause any distortion to the cover multimedia. The test results show that the performance of the proposed method outperforms similar conventional stenographic techniques. The proposed Ozyavas–Takaoglu–Ajlouni (OTA) method relieves the limitation on the size of the hidden data, and hidden data is undetectable by steganalysis because it is no longer embedded in the cover multimedia.

In certain applications the user has to cope with some random packet erasures due, e.g., to deep fading conditions on wireless links, or to congestion on wired networks. In other applications, the user has to cope with a pure wireless link, in which all packets are available to him, even if seriously corrupted. The ARQ/FEC schemes already studied and presented in the literature are well optimized only for one of these two applications. In a previous work, the authors aimed at bridging this gap, giving a design method for obtaining hybrid ARQ schemes that perform well in both conditions, i.e., at the presence of packet erasures and packet fading. This scheme uses a channel coding system based on partially-systematic periodically punctured turbo codes. Since the computation of the transfer function and, consequently, the union bound on the Bit or Frame Error Rate of a partiallysystematic punctured turbo code becomes highly intensive as the interleaver size and the puncturing period increase, in this work a simplified and more efficient method to calculate the most significant terms of the average distance spectrum of the turbo encoder is proposed and validated.

The image watermarking is widely used to provide the security. This paper provides the conceptual framework on image watermarking which is widely used for security purpose within the epoch of data and communication technology. Detailed discuss has been provided on the basis of the three phases. In the first phase of present paper focus has been made on image watermarking and data set will be prepared on which watermarking technique will be executed. Second phase need to locate a specific watermarking technique [LWT- WALSH HADMARD-SVD] which will provide appropriate results in term of PSNR and processing time. In second phase various attacks will be tested on images so that implemented method must stand against various attacks. Last phase emphasise on reverse process will be executed to extract cover and watermark image. Proposed technique is based on the secure encryption watermark .It is associated with image encryption. The encryption algorithm had been introduced in which watermarking information was based on the size of an image. It is clear from the outcomes of the hybrid proposed technique shows that it provides more security than the existing technique. Proposed techniques provide high level of security as compared to existed technology.

The structure from motion (SfM) method has achieved great success in 3D sparse reconstruction, but it still faces serious challenges in large-scale scenes. Existing hybrid SfM methods usually do not fully consider the compactness between images and the connectivity between subclusters, resulting in a loose spatial distribution of images within subclusters, unbalanced connectivity between subclusters, and poor robustness in the merging stage. In this paper, an efficient and robust hybrid SfM method is proposed. First, the multifactor joint scene partition measure and the preassignment balanced image expansion algorithm among subclusters are constructed, which effectively solves the loose spatial distribution of images in subclusters problem and improves the degree of connection among subclusters. Second, the global GlobalACSfM method is used to complete the local sparse reconstruction of the subclusters under the cluster parallel framework. Then, a decentralized dynamic merging rule considering the connectivity of subclusters is proposed to realize robust merging among subclusters. Finally, public datasets and oblique photography datasets are used for experimental verification. The results show that the method proposed in this paper is superior to the state-of-the-art methods in terms of accuracy and robustness and has good feasibility and advancement prospects.

In this modern era, medical image processing is an indispensable part of many applications and practices in the medical domain. The images that are used should meet certain criteria, including having more accurate details and information than each individual image, which can help medical scientists with analysis and treatment. Medical image fusion is among the techniques that offer high-quality images, which are combined from different modalities. Multimodal medical image fusion provides remarkable improvement in the quality of the fused images. In this paper, we describe an image fusion method for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) utilizing local features and fuzzy logic methods. The aim of the proposed technique is to create the maximum combination of useful information present in MRI and CT images. Image local features are distinguished and combined with fuzzy logic to calculate weights for each pixel. Simulation outcomes show that the proposed method produces considerably better results compared to cutting-edge techniques. The method is also used to detect and highlight tumorous areas, followed by morphology filters used to eliminate any noise and disturbance.

Image watermarking is a method to hide the secret information in a host image for copyright protection of watermark data during the transmission by means of insecure channel. The proposed scheme protects our data with adaptive level of visual quality and robustness against signal processing and geometric attacks. The proposed method divides the host image into four non-overlapping segments labelled as sub-images, DWT is applied on each sub images and then block based DCT is applied on mid frequency channels LH and HL of discrete wavelet transform. Embedded matrix is formed using hybrid transformed coefficients where matrix elements are chosen from the localized two mid frequency coefficients of each block in DCT. SV Decomposition is applied on embedded matrix to factorize it into singular values, left and right singular vectors and embed the scrambled watermark image along with scaling factor in singular value matrix. This repetition of watermark data in each sub-image reduces the PSNR values of the watermarked image. Despite this proposed scheme scales down PSNR value, changing the scaling factor favours to adjust the PSNR to the acceptable level and withstand the signal processing attacks such as JPEG compression and geometrical attack such as rotation, translation. Compared to the other method, the proposed scheme gives better correlation coefficient value for above mentioned kinds of attacks and also provide adaptive PSNR for imperceptibility on watermarked image.

The nonlinear conjugate gradient algorithms are a very effective way in solving large-scale unconstrained optimization problems. Based on some famous previous conjugate gradient methods, a modified hybrid conjugate gradient method was proposed. The proposed method can generate decent directions at every iteration independent of any line search. Under the Wolfe line search, the proposed method possesses global convergence. Numerical results show that the modified method is efficient and robust.

We report a facil and robust strategy for fabricating flexible piezoelectric nanogenerator based on free-standing polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) / ZnO nanowire (NW) hybrid film. Free-standing hybrid film was fabricated by mechanical exfoliation of ZnO NWs grown on a FR4 substrate. The free-standing ZnO/PDMS hybrid film is robust enough to be transferred into a flexible substrate of polyimide (Kapton) with Au sputtered. The nanogenerator based on the free-standing hybrid film exhibits stable output voltage about 0.7 V and current of 7 nA under pressing conditions. This facil and robust method should hold significant promise applications in efficient energy harvesting.

AbstractWe considers a distributionally robust optimization problem when the ambiguity set specifies the support as well as the mean and the covariance matrix of the uncertain parameters. After deriving a general deterministic reformulation for the distributionally robust optimization problem, we obtain tractable optimization reformulations when the support set is the whole space and when it is a convex polyhedral set. A hybrid method of Gurobi and a smoothing Newton conjugate gradient method is suggested to solve the tractable optimization problems and numerical results of the hybrid method for solving an illustrative example are reported.

Orientation estimation is a crucial part of robotics tasks such as motion control, autonomous navigation, and 3D mapping. In this paper, we propose a robust visual-based method to estimate robots’ drift-free orientation with RGB-D cameras. First, we detect and track hybrid features (i.e., plane, line, and point) from color and depth images, which provides reliable constraints even in uncharacteristic environments with low texture or no consistent lines. Then, we construct a cost function based on these features and, by minimizing this function, we obtain the accurate rotation matrix of each captured frame with respect to its reference keyframe. Furthermore, we present a vanishing direction-estimation method to extract the Manhattan World (MW) axes; by aligning the current MW axes with the global MW axes, we refine the aforementioned rotation matrix of each keyframe and achieve drift-free orientation. Experiments on public RGB-D datasets demonstrate the robustness and accuracy of the proposed algorithm for orientation estimation. In addition, we have applied our proposed visual compass to pose estimation, and the evaluation on public sequences shows improved accuracy.

Real-time hybrid simulation (RTHS), dividing the emulated structure into numerical substructures (NS) and physical substructures (PS), is a powerful technique to obtain responses and then to assess the seismic performance of civil engineering structures. A transfer system, a servo-hydraulic actuator or shaking table, is used to apply boundary conditions between the two substructures. However, the servo-hydraulic actuator is inherently a complex system with nonlinearities and may introduce time delays into the RTHS, which will decrease the accuracy and stability of the RTHS. Moreover, there are various uncertainties in RTHS. An accurate and robust actuator control strategy is necessary to guarantee reliable simulation results. Therefore, a mixed sensitivity-based H∞ control method was proposed for RTHS. In H∞ control, the dynamics and robustness of the closed-loop transfer system are realized by performance weighting functions. A form of weighting function was given considering the requirement in RTHS. The influence of the weighting functions on the dynamics was investigated. Numerical simulations and actual RTHSs were carried out under symmetric and asymmetric dynamic loads, namely sinusoidal and earthquake excitation, respectively. Results indicated that the H∞ control method used for RTHS is feasible, and it exhibits an excellent tracking performance and robustness.
