Анотація:

Bu çalışmanın amacı Rheum ribes L. ‘nin farklı olgunlaşma dönemlerinin kimyasal bileşiminine, kondanse tanen (KT) içeriğine, gaz ve metan üretimine, metabolik enerji (ME) ve organik madde sindirim derecesine (OMSD) etkisinin belirlenmesidir. Olgunlaşma dönemi kimyasal bileşimi, KT içeriğini, gaz ve metan üretimini, ME ve OMSD önemli derecede etkilemiştir (P<0.05). Rheum ribes L.’nin kuru madde (KM), ham kül (HK), ham protein (HP), ham yağ (HY), KT, asit çözücülerde çözünmeyen lifli bileşikler (ADF), nötr çözücülerde çözünmeyen lifli bileşikleri (NDF) sırasıyla 92.73-98.64%, 6.11-14.15%, 8.81-19.12%, 1.94-3.04%, 10.47-14.72%, 36.99-53.98% and 24.88-37.63% aralıklarında belirlenmiştir. Rheum ribes L.’nin 24 saatlik gaz üretimi, metan üretimi 29.73-40.60 ml ve 2.63-5.50 ml aralığında belirlenmiştir. ME ve OMSD 6.97-9.87 MJ kg-1 KM ve 45.68-60.02% aralığında belirlenmiştir. Özet olarak olgunlaşma dönemi Rheum ribes L.’nin besleme değerini önemli ölçide etkilemiştir. Rheum ribes L. ‘nin özellikle HP, ME, OMSD olgunlaşma dönemi ilerledikçe azalmıştır. Rheum ribes L.’nin gaz üretimi, ME ve OMSD, ADF ve NDF içeriği ile önemli ve negatif korelasyon göstermiş, ham protein içeriği ile pozitif korelasyon sergilemiştir. Ek olarak Rheum ribes L.’nin ruminant hayvanların performansı ve besleme değerinin belirlenebilmesi için in vivo çalışmalara da ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır.

Анотація:

Introduction: Using antibiotics to control pathogenic bacteria is associated with certain side effects in addition to emergence of drug resistance. Nowadays, researchers are considering using plants as suitable alternatives to antibiotics. The aim of study was to compare in vitro antimicrobial activities of aqueous and hydroalcoholic Bunium persicum and Rheum ribes L. extracts on Acinetobacter baumanii. Materials and methods: Different concentrations of R. ribes and B. persicum were prepared to determine microbial sensitivity of A. baumanii using disk diffusion, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). Results: The highest MIC (256 µg/ml) against A. baumanii was derived for aqueous R. ribes and B. persicum extracts and the lowest MIC (128 µg/ml) for their hydroalcoholic extracts. The highest MBC (512 µg/ml) was derived for aqueous R. ribes extract and the lowest MBC (256 µg/ml) for aqueous and hydroalcoholic R. ribes and B. persicum and hydroalcoholic R. ribes extracts. The extracts exhibited great inhibitory effects against the studied bacteria in disk diffusion; and with increasing the extracts’ concentrations, the inhibitory effect was exhibited more markedly as increased diameter of inhibition zone. Conclusion: Hydroalcoholic R. ribes and B. persicum extracts can be used as nature-based compounds to control A. baumanii.

Анотація:

Rheum ribes L. is a perennial wild species. Young shoots and flower bunches are freshly consumed, and root and rhizomes are generally used for medicinal purposes. The aim of the present study was to improve the callus proliferation protocol for R. ribes L. under in vitro conditions. For callus induction, hypocotyl explants taken from 14-day old plantlets germinated in Murashige and Skoog (MS) media were cultured in MS media with 9 plant growth regulator (PGR) combinations containing 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) (2, 3, and 4 mg/L) + naphthylacetic acid (NAA) (0.1, 0.5, and 1 mg/L). Then, for callus proliferation, 4 PGR combinations containing NAA (0.2 mg/L) + thidiazuron (TDZ) (0.5, 1, 2, and 3 mg) were used in the first set of experiments, and 36 PGR combinations containing BAP (1, 2, 3, and 4 mg/L) + indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) (0.2, 0.5, and 1 mg/L), BAP (1, 2, 3, and 4 mg/L) + NAA (0.2, 0.5, and 1 mg/L), and TDZ (1, 2, 3, and 4 mg/L) + NAA (0.2, 0.5, and 1 mg/L) were used in the second set of experiments. At the end of the second set of experiments, the greatest callus regeneration ratios were obtained due to the combinations including BAP and IBA as well as the low-dose TDZ- (especially 1 mg/L) and NAA- (0.2, 0.5, 1 mg/L) combinations. Regarding callus fresh weights, TDZ + NAA combinations were found to be more successful. The greatest callus fresh weight (12.7 ±0.4 g) was obtained from MS medium supplemented with 2 mg/L TDZ and 0.2 mg/L NAA.

Анотація:

Parietin is one of the well-known anthraquinone compounds that can be extracted from Rheum ribes L. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of parietin isolated from Rheum ribes L on an in vitro wound model using human dermal fibroblast cells and compare its effectiveness against zinc. The antioxidant effect of parietin was determined by using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazine (DPPH) method. Human dermal fibroblast cells were cultured in proculture medium and were kept until 100% confluence was achieved. The wound model was created by using a pipette tip. After that, different concentrations of parietin and zinc (final concentrations in the well to be 5-250 µM and 25-200 µM, respectively) were added into the medium. The proliferation-inducing effect on cell viability was determined by using MTT assay. Images of cells were taken at 0, 12, and 24 hours. According to the DPPH method, parietin exhibited have antioxidant activity. According to the MTT results, parietin exhibited significant proliferation-inducing effect on cell viability in a dose range of 5 to 10 M, and zinc showed significant proliferation-inducing effect on cell viability at dose 50 µM ( P < .05). In addition, the image of cell proliferation was also shown at the same doses at 24 hours. In this study, we claim that parietin induces cell proliferation at low doses in cases of dermal fibroblast loss. In conclusion, parietin as an alternative to zinc in wound healing could be used by clinicians in the future with more extensive studies.

Анотація:

Abstract Rheum ribes is one of the most important medicinal plants spread wildly in Iraqi Kurdistan, and its roots are used traditionally in the treatment of Obesity and obesity-related disorders, such as type 2 diabetes and hypercholesterolemia which are considered the major cause of mortality worldwide and since the therapeutic medication failed to prevent their progression. Here comes the importance of medical plants as rich sources of natural bioactive substances that are used to treat many disorders. The current study intended to examine the phytochemical contents of roots (rhizome), leaves, and flowering stems of R. ribes L. that have been collected from five locations: Qandil, Kanitoo, Sharbazher, Penjwen, and Hawraman and to analyze the active compounds by HPLC technique, and also to study the potential of ethanolic extract of R. ribes root in the hypoglycemic and hypocholesterolemic points of view by using diet-induced obese and diabetic rats. The results showed that roots collected from Qandil had a higher concentration of total phenol and flavonoids and HPLC analysis results found that active compounds found in the plant root were: Gallic acid, Ellagic acid, Quercetin, Catechin, Rutin, Cinnamic acid, Tannic acid, Emodin, Aloe-emodin, and Physcion. Leaves and flowering stems contained all the mentioned compounds except Cinnamic acid and Tannic acid. The ethanolic extract of the roots significantly lowered the level of glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides(TG), and low-density lipoprotein(LDL)level (p<0.05) in the blood of rats and also had a positive effect on the body weight loss in rats, especially at a dose of (60 mg/kg).

Анотація:

This study covers the edible plants in Hizan where there is a rich culture of plant consumption. The study was conducted between 2018 and 2019 to record the culture of traditional food plant use of the local people in Hizan. In this regard, the face-to-face interviews with the local people were made, and the relevant plants used were collected and identified. A total of 65 species of wild edible plants belonging to 24 families were identified, and their different traditional usages were categorized as cooked, cheese making, rennet, specie and gum producing, and as raw or beverages etc. In addition, the use-value (VU) index was calculated for each species. The mostly used species included Rheum ribes L. (UV: 0.70), Gundelia tournefortii L. (0.66), Silene vulgaris (Moench) Garcke, Rosa canina L. (0.64), Urtica dioica L. (0.63), Malva neglecta Wallr. (0.61), and Pistacia khinjuk Stocks (0.60). The culture of edible plant use is widespread throughout the Anatolia. However, traditional uses of many wild plants have not been recorded yet. Анотація:

Chemical treatments for diarrhoea usually lead to side effects, so humans are seeking out a safe pharmaceutical source to cure them. From ancient times, medicinal plants have served as an important pharmaceutical source for the treatment of various acute and chronic diseases and infectious and non-infectious diseases. This study was carried out from April 2017 to February 2018 by interviewing with and administering a questionnaires to 29 traditional therapists. The questionnaire also included demographic items. The interviewers referred to the participants in person and asked them certain questions to elicit their beliefs about herbal medicine. Data were finally analyzed by the Excel software. In this study, the frequency of plant use was calculated by using a formula. According to the ethnobotanical knowledge of the region under study, Astragalus hamosus L., Ziziphora taurica M.Bieb., Anthemis hyalina DC., Plantago major L., Quercus brantii Lindl., Myrtus communis L., Satureja bachtiarica Bung., Glycyrrhiza glabra L., Peganum harmala L., Rheum ribes L., Rumex pulcher L., Artemisia absinthium, Descurainia sophia (L.) Prantle., Plantago major L. and some others medicinal plants are used as antidiarrhoeal medicinal plants. Most plant species reported belong to the Asteraceae family and the aerial part (36%) is the most frequently used plant organ for cases of diarrhoea in Shahrekord. The scientific registration and review of the written and non-written knowledge of different ethnicities in Iran regarding traditional medicine will help preserve the valuable treasure of thousands of years of Iranians’ medical knowledge and experience and will provide the basis for the discovery of new drugs and the progress of the pharmaceutical industry.

Background:Regulatory T cells (Tregs) prevent autoimmunity and control inflammation. As low-dose interleukin-2 (ld-IL2) expands and activates Tregs, it has a broad therapeutic potential for any autoimmune or inflammatory disease (AIID). We performed a disease-finding “basket trial” (TRANSREGNCT01988506) in patients affected by one of 11 different AIID and reported the outcome of the first 46 patients (Rosenzwajg et al, ARD 2019).Objectives:Here we analyzed and discussed results from deep immunophenotyping, of 78 patients, to comprehensively study the effect of ld-IL2 on the immune system of patients affected by various AIIDMethods:We performed a prospective, open label, phase I-IIa study in 78 patients with a mild to moderate form of one of 13 selected AIID. All patients received ld-IL2 (1 million IU/day) for 5 days, followed by fortnightly injections for 6 months. Deep immunophenotyping was performed before and after 5 days of ld-IL2.Results:ld-IL2 significantly expands both memory Tregs as well as naïve Tregs, including recent thymic emigrant Tregs. It also activates Tregs as demonstrated by the significantly increased expression of HLA-DR, CD39, CD73, GITR, CTLA-4. Background:One in three patients with psoriasis (Pso) will develop psoriatic arthritis (PsA) (1). When untreated, this can lead to disability and irreversible joint damage (2). Current screening methods are mostly based on questionnaires. These lack specificity and sensitivity (3,4). Thus, a significant portion of PsA patients remains undetected.Objectives:Our main objective is to ascertain the prevalence of PsA in a cohort of Pso patient, treated at a dermatology outpatient clinic. Secondary, we wish to make a referral tool for dermatologist to detect patients suspected of PsA.Methods:A sample of 300 patients, stratified for current skin therapy (topical, systemic non-biologic, biologic), will be screened by a rheumatology resident for PsA signs and symptoms. When PsA is suspected, patients are referred to a rheumatologist for confirmation. We gather information about demography, treatment (past and current) and comorbidity. On top of that, we gather data on disease specifics (age of onset, disease duration, severity). We store biomaterials and DNA. Eventually, all these data will be used to form a more specific prediction model which can be used at the dermatology department for more efficient referral.Results:We will present preliminary data of the first 100 patients. In this cohort, we found 14 patients with known PsA. 10 patients were suspected of (previously undiagnosed) PsA, and were referred to a rheumatology clinic. Three cases were confirmed, and 4 are still under analysis. This makes the prevalence of PsA in Pso 17-21%. Of these three new cases, one was treated with topical therapy only, one was treated with a biologic, and one received targeted therapy. In the patients with PsA, we found a higher amount of men. On top of that, we found a trend towards more intensive therapy. This may be due to indication bias, were the presence of arthritis may lead to a more aggressive treatment. Interestingly, 2 of the 3 previously undiagnosed PsA patients were treated with a biological for their skin symptoms.Conclusion:Preliminary data of the DAPPER study reveal that the prevalence of confirmed PsA in Pso patients is 17%. AbstractObjectivesRheum ribes L. is a perennial plant that belongs to the family of Polygonaceae, which is often used in traditional therapy because it possesses many bioactivities, such as antioxidant and antibacterial ones. Here we examined the effect of different R. ribes L. extracts on oxidative stress in experimental diabetic rats.MethodsThirty-six rats were divided into six groups as follows: group I, control group; group II, diabetic rats; group III, diabetic rats treated with the aqueous extract of R. ribes L. by gavage at 50 mg/kg for 15 days; group IV, diabetic rats treated by gavage with the ethanolic extract of R. ribes L. at 50 mg/kg for 15 days; group V, nondiabetic rats treated by gavage with the aqueous extract of R. ribes L. at 50 mg/kg for 15 days; group VI, nondiabetic rats treated by gavage with the ethanol extract of R. ribes L. at 50 mg/kg for 15 days. After 15 days, the animals were sacrificed and the liver and kidney tissues of each animal were isolated. Superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activities in the tissue samples were measured, and histopathologic examination was carried out.ResultsR. ribes L. was effective in reducing the oxidative stress and increasing the levels of the antioxidant enzymes. Increased levels of MDA and decreased levels of SOD, CAT and GSH-Px were observed in both the liver and kidney tissues in group II. Decreased levels of MDA and increased levels of SOD, CAT and GSH-Px were observed in group III compared with group II. In group IV, decreased levels of MDA and increased levels of SOD, CAT and GSH-Px were observed in comparison with group II.ConclusionsDiabetes increases oxidative stress and causes a decrease in antioxidant enzyme levels. Both aqueous and ethanolic extracts of R. ribes L. decrease oxidative stress activity and increase the levels of antioxidant enzymes. The ethanol extract of R. ribes L. has a higher antioxidant effect than the aqueous extract.

Taze ışkında (Rheum ribes L.) toplam kuru madde, suda çözünür kuru madde, titrasyon asitliği, pH, toplam fenolik madde, DPPH. radikali giderme aktivitesi, toplam şeker, indirgen şeker, sakkaroz değerleri sırasıyla %7.66; %4.50; %1.02 (w/v); 4.14; 1.81 mg GAE/100 g; %87.70; 1.68 g/100g; 1.01 g/100g; 0.64 g/100g olarak tespit edilmiştir. Işkının reçele işlenmesi ile toplam fenolik madde ve DPPH değerlerinde azalma olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. En yüksek toplam fenolik madde miktarı R3 tipinde tespit edilmiştir. HMF miktarlarının tüm reçel tiplerinde standartlara uygun olduğu belirlenmiştir. Duyusal açıdan değerlendirilen reçel tipleri arasında en çok beğenilen ve tercih edilen reçel tipi R1 örneği olmuştur. Işkın’ın taze olarak tüketilmesinin yanında reçele de işlenmesi; kahvaltılık ürün çeşitliliğinin zenginleştirilmesi ve katma değeri olan yeni bir ürünün ortaya çıkarılması açısından faydalı olacaktır.

Rheum ribes (R. ribes) has a variety of medicinal applications due to the presence of anthraquinone derivatives and other compounds. It was aimed to determine the potential antimicrobial effects on some gram-negative/positive pathogens, and lactic acid bacteria by agar well diffusion test following minimum inhibition concentrations (MIC) with liquid extract samples of R. ribes. Growth concentrations of R. ribes extract doses (14.17-0,89 mg/L) were applied to indicator microorganisms. MIC method used microbial density values compared to the control group. Result of the Agar well diffusion test, the best antibacterial effects were detected on L. monocytogenes and S. aureus and following B. subtilis (zone diameter of 18.72 and 18.32 mm, respectively). The R. Ribes extract showed a higher inhibitor effect than tetracycline antibiotic against L. monocytogenes. Similarly, S. aureus and E. faecalis., S. paratyphi A were more affected by R. Ribes extract than tetracycline antibiotic. The MIC test result, the highest inhibitory effects of R. ribes extract at a concentration of 0,89 mg/L for S. Paratyphi A strain, 3.54 mg/L for K. pneumonia, and 3.54 mg/L for E. coli RSSK 09036 were determined as 50.81%, 60.45%, and 60.40%, respectively. The highest inhibition effects of R. ribes at 14.17 mg/L (0.5 dilution concentration) concentration were determined at the rate of 80.12% for Bacillus clausii and 96.04% for B. subtilis. In the present study, it is thought that the differences between the antimicrobial effect and MIC tests seen in gram-positive, negative and probiotic bacteria may be related to the surface tension effect of the extract

Işgın geleneksel tıpta ve farmakolojide yaygın olarak anti-mikrobiyal, anti-bakteriyel, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-diyabetik, anti-kanserojen, anti-diyareik, anti-hiperlipidemik, anti-obezite, anti-inflamatuar, anti-aging, anti-oksidan kardiyovasküler koruma olarak ve gastrit, ülser, alzheimer hastalığına karşı kullanılmaktadır. Bitkinin toplanması sırasında kullanılan sap kısımlarının tamamen alınması ve kök kısımlarına zarar verilmesi doğa tahribatına yol açmaktadır. Background: Renal fibrosis is a key pathological change that occurs in the progression of almost all chronic kidney diseases . CKD has the characteristics of high morbidity and mortality. Its prevalence is increasing each year on a global scale, which seriously affects people’s health and quality of life. Natural products have been used for new drug development and disease treatment for many years. The abundant natural products in R. ribes L. can intervene in the process of renal fibrosis in different ways and have considerable therapeutic prospects.Purpose: The etiology and pathology of renal fibrosis were analyzed, and the different ways in which the natural components of R. ribes L. can intervene and provide curative effects on the process of renal fibrosis were summarized. Methods: Electronic databases, such as PubMed, Life Science, MEDLINE, and Web of Science, were searched using the keywords ‘R. ribes L.’, ‘kidney fibrosis’, ‘emodin’ and ‘rhein’, and the various ways in which the natural ingredients protect against renal fibrosis were collected and sorted out.Results: We analyzed several factors that play a leading role in the pathogenesis of renal fibrosis, such as the mechanism of the TGF-β/Smad and Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathways. Additionally, we reviewed the progress of the treatment of renal fibrosis with natural components in R. ribes L. and the intervention mechanism of the crucial therapeutic targets.Conclusion: The natural components of R. ribes L. have a wide range of intervention effects on renal fibrosis targets, which provides new ideas for the development of new anti-kidney fibrosis drugs.

Background: Cystic echinococcosis is a zoonotic infection in humans and herbivorous animals with worldwide distribution which caused by larva stage of Echinococcus granulosus. Rhubarb (Rheum ribes L.) as an herbal medicines has various therapeutics properties such as the antioxidant, anticancer, and antimicrobial ones. With respect to the potential of the biological activities of this plant in traditional and modern medicine, we aim to examine its protoscolicidal effects against E. granulosus protoscolecess in vitro and ex vivo. Methods: Collected protoscoleces from liver hydatid cysts of infected sheep were exposed to the different concentrations of the extract (225, 450, 900 mg/mL) for 5-60 min in vitro and ex vivo. Then using the eosin exclusion assay the viability of protoscoleces was studied. Results: R. ribes extract had a potent protoscolicidal activity in vitro so that at the 450 and 900 mg/ml killed 56.3 and 100% of protoscoleces after 10 min exposure. Ex vivo assay, the extract needed more time to kill the protoscoleces than the in vitro; so that at the concentration of 900 mg/mL, all protoscoleces were killed after 15 minutes Conclusion: The obtained results exhibited the potent protoscolicidal effects of R. ribes extract particularly at the concentration of 900 mg/ml which completely killed the parasite after <15 min exposure. However, more and supplementary studies are required to verify these findings through assessing in animal models and clinical subjects.

Анотація:

The early stages of a lycaenid butterfly, Miller’s Green Hairstreak Callophrys mystaphia Miller, 1913, are photographed and presented for the first time. Callophrys mystaphia is known to be endangered and is regarded to be endemic to Turkey based on recent studies. The species is considered to be local and isolated, with the likelihood of being one of the rarest butterfly species in Turkey. The distribution of this species and its food plant, Rheum ribes L. (Polygonaceae), in Turkey are investigated and the possible range of this butterfly species is highlighted. New data on the early stages, phenology, vertical distribution, and behaviour of adult and larva of C. mystaphia are presented. The larva was found to have been attacked by a newly discovered hymenopteran parasitoid species of the genus Cotesia Cameron, 1981 (Braconidae); the cocoons and the adult parasitoid are illustrated.

This study was carried out to investigate the immunotoxic and neurotoxic effects of Rheum ribes L. (Rr) plant extract on liver, brain and heart tissues in rats with an experimental obesity model. Wistar albino male rats were used in the study. In this study, 4 groups were formed, one of which was the control group, and each group consisted of 6 rats. The groups were the ''control (CG)'', ''high calorie diet (HCD) control (HCDG)'', 'HCD + Rr (200 mg/kg) (HCDRHE1)'' and ''HCD + Rr (400 mg/kg) (HCDRHE2)''. At the end of the study, acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), adenosineaminase (ADA) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) biomarkers were evaluated in tissues. According to the study findings, the ADA and MPO activity levels of the obese group increased significantly compared to the control group, and these enzyme levels in the groups administered Rr plant extract approached the control group levels. On the other hand, the AChE and BChE activity levels of the obese group decreased compared to the control group, and there was a statistically significant increase in the groups administered plant extracts compared to the control group. In conclusion, Rr plant root extract suppresses neurotoxicity and immunotoxicity in rats with obesity induced by a high-calorie diet (HCD).

Анотація:

Objective: Carbonyl formation between various oxidative modifications of amino acids in proteins can be an early sign of protein oxidation. Methods: The 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH) method is the most reliable method widely used to measure carbonyl levels in proteins. In this study, the effect of Rheum ribes L. (Rr) and quercetin on proteın carbonyl, trace elements (Fe, Cu, Zn) and mineral (P) levels against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) mediated liver and kidney damage was investigated. For this purpose, 56 Wistar albino female rats weighing 200 ± 220 g were used. Groups were designed as: controls, 0.3 ml DMSO, 1 ml/kg olive oil, 1 ml/kg CCl4, 100 mg/kg Rr, 100 mg/kg quercetin, 100 mg/kg Rr+1 ml/kg CCl4 and 100 mg/kg quercetin+1 ml/kg CCl4 groups.
