A description of the nationally oriented training complex for learning Russian as a foreign language "V Dobryi Put’!" for German speakers which includes a textbook, an audio-supplement, a video-film and a test system is given. The computer-based training system, designed for this complex ensures effective teaching foreign students Russian phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, speech etiquette, and also facilitates the formation of the necessary communication skills.

The Biosecurity Research Institute (BRI) facility at Kansas State University is a huge biocontainment facility to conduct research on infectious diseases that pose a threat to plant, animal and human health. The BRI Training and Education Program is currently offline; i.e., classroom sessions are taken to provide this training and education. The objective behind taking up this project was to move the entire training and education module of Biosecurity Research Institute online, instead of having a classroom session for each training course, with an subject matter expert (SME) to come and take the training session. The aim is to develop an online training system which is synchronized with the information in the BRI Research Project Database. The employees will only have to login to the website, scroll through the list of courses they are enrolled in, take the courses, write the assignments/quizzes assigned to the course and then submit the quizzes. They can also self-enroll themselves into courses, if they are given the permission to do so. The SME’s of the courses can create new courses, upload the course materials, enroll users into the courses, and assign deadlines to course completion. Once the student submits the course quiz or assignments, the SME’s can grade the quiz, assign a final grade to the students, and give feedback on their performance. They can even reassign the course in case of poor performance by the student. The administrators of the website can assign roles to different personnel, give permissions according to need and requirement, add/delete courses, and change the appearance of the website. The project is to be done using a Learning Management System called Moodle. Moodle (Modular Object Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) is an online learning management system designed to allow interaction between teachers and students. The back-end database used is SQL Server 2008 R2 and additional tools used are Adobe Presenter (with Microsoft Power Point 2010) to create the courses in SCORM format.

A prototype microcomputer-based CBI program was developed to provide review, structured self-study, and remediation to students undergoing initial skills training at the Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC), Lakehurst, NJ. The program demonstrates the capabilities of the authoring (LSAUT) and delivery (LSSTU) programs that are parts of the Language Skills Computer Aided Instruction (LSCAI) system developed by the Navy Personnel Research and Development Center and the University of Utah. A course of instruction at NATTC, Lakehurst was selected for this project on the basis of level of training, student throughput, attrition and setback rates, and category of learning objectives. Student and instructor evaluations of the program were conducted. A preliminary cost-effectiveness analysis is presented. Conclusions and recommendations include: (1) Development of the prototype program should be continued; (2) The LSCAI system should be considered for this type of application when learning objectives require the remembering of facts, especially the learning of technical vocabulary; (3) Use of microcomputer-based review, structured self-study and remediation can reduce the requirement for experienced instructors; (4) This type of CBI can be cost-effective when implemented on low-cost microcomputers using inexpensive software; (5) demonstration projects such as this should be encouraged and funded to facilitate the movement of technology from the laboratory to the classroom; (6) drill and practice type CBI that uses the capabilities of modern microcomputers can be challenging, interesting, and enjoyable and Navy development of systems that exploit these microcomputer capabilities should be continued; and (7) this type of review program should be considered for use on Navy ships to augment on-the-job training.

Pre-Trip Inspection of the truck and trailer is one of the components of the current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) test. This part of the CDL test checks the ability of the student to identify the important parts of the commercial vehicle and their potential defects. The Virtual Check Ride System (VCRS), a computer-based application, is an assessment and feedback tool that mirrors the inspection component of the actual CDL. The VCRS has provided an after action review (AAR) via a feedback session that helps in identifying and correcting drivers' skill in inspecting parts and for overall safety. The purpose of this research is to determine the effectiveness of the VCRS in truck driving training programs. An experimental study was conducted with truck driving students at Mid Florida Tech, located in Orlando, Florida. The students were divided into control and experimental groups. Students in the both groups received regular training provided by Mid Florida Tech. The experimental group received additional training by making use of the VCRS. A total of three paper-based tests were given to all subjects during first three weeks; one test at the end of a week. Both groups were given the same paper-based tests. A two-way analysis of variance was conducted to evaluate the effect of the VCRS in the experimental group. This analysis found a significant difference between control and experimental groups. This effect showed that the students in the experimental group increased their performance by using VCRS. Moreover, there was a main effect in the scores of each week. However, there was not an interaction between the two factors. Follow up Post Hoc tests were conducted to evaluate the pair-wise differences among the means of the test week factors using a Tukey HSD test. These Post Hoc comparisons indicated that the mean score for the third week's test scores were significantly better than the first week's test score in the experimental group. It was concluded that the VCRS facilitated learning for the experimental group and that learning also occurred for both groups as a result of repeated testing.

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and Club Corporation of America collaborated on a multimedia-training project, Board of Governors: The Cornerstone of a Fine Private Club. This training sought to catalogue all existing support materials and articulate key philosophical and operational systems regarding relationships between Club Managers and the club's Board of Governors, which stands as the leading administrative body for philosophical and operational issues in individual private clubs.

This analysis operates on two levels of investigation: 1) a case study that provides a rhetorical assessment of the development and contents of this training system, 2) based on this appraisal, an introduction of theoretical options regarding the development of training applications. Moreover, the theoretical exhortations of Michel Foucault and Augusto Boal provide a language to encourage a different modus operandi in the field of corporate training.

By articulating the concept of a "dialogue training continuum," this elucidation strives to offer an alternative when rethinking training systems and their encoded discourses. By analyzing local and institutional knowledges and how those knowledges find shape in this project, this analysis argues that establishing a system where end-users may question and reshape the philosophical discourse of the company during the context of training, the overall milieu has the ability to grow and shape-shift through legitimizing and valuing the voices of all organizational constituents.

The U.S. Navy transitioned to Computer-Based Training (CBT) in A and C schools in 2003 after a 2001 Revolution in Training report claimed that the Navy would realize savings in cost and training time without negatively affecting the quality of sailors arriving to the Fleet. This thesis analyzes Operating and Support (O and S) cost data for the AN/SQQ-89(v) sonar system to determine whether the transition to CBT contributed to increased Fleet maintenance costs. Determining how actions to change one aspect of a system affects other areas of the system will provide insight for future decisions affecting O and S cost, system life cycles, and Fleet material readiness.

There is a critical need for comprehensive residential living facilities, in other than large institutional environments, for persons with both mental and physical disabilities. In an automated small-group home, these people could achieve a quality of life derived from having some control over their living and learning environments. Technology could be the answer to help the multiple handicapped individual. The purpose of this dissertation project was to design specifications and requirements for a training methodology to prepare multiple and severely disabled people to use a computerized environmental-control system. A residential facility for mentally retarded individuals in Broward County served as the "Project Center". The primary objectives for the project were: (1) to determine the category of individual with the ability to use a computerized environmental-control system; and (2) to design an appropriate training methodology. Training candidates were carefully chosen to select individuals who represented a cross-section of people with multiple handicaps and who were potentially able to derive benefit from an automated small-group home environment. Baseline evaluation, formative evaluation, and summative evaluation procedures were studied and applied, as appropriate, to learners, to lessons (objectives), and to the total program. The product of this project was a prototype of a training program to be used as the basis for the formative revision of future expanded training. Expectations for using a standard or semi-standard keyboard for computer input were not reasonable; therefore, an alternative input device was developed. It consisted of two large-format, recessed, push-button keypads that were distinctly color-coded and permitted trainees with limited hand control to sequence through the menu options and select the desired choice. Consistent with previous experience of the trainees in the use of communication aids, menu choices for control-action functions were represented as easily recognized pictures ("icons") instead of words. Target goals (performance objectives) designed to teach the general skills required to accomplish desired functions using the computer and related input and output devices were written to be meaningful, measurable, and referenced to the broad goals initially established. When Target Goals were successfully achieved, the trainee had acquired the knowledge necessary to make menu choices and use the computer system, including input and output devices. Pre-training evaluation was conducted by a team of observers. Evaluation of training sessions followed; during which the trainer applied Training session Procedures developed specifically for this project to teach trainees to accomplish the Target Goals. Post-training evaluation was conducted by the same team that conducted pre-training evaluation The overall increase for all trainees, who when totaled together completed 64 of the maximum possible 80 rounds (8 trainees x 10 rounds per trainee). Trainees as a group were able to accomplish an average of 76.04 percent of the maximum possible goals. They were able to accomplish an average of 95.05 percent of goals tried. The broad program goals were effectively transformed into educationally sound performance objectives. The training session procedures were appropriate to accomplish the Target Goals for 5 of the 6 training candidates who were not classified as being in the severe to profound level of mental retardation, even though their physical disabilities were classified as severe. The two keypad input approach used with the icon-based, binary choice menu software and the training session procedures proved to be very effective for the be used as the basis for future training of persons with disabilities similar to those at the project center.

In the aviation industry, digitally produced and presented flight, navigation, and aircraft information is commonly referred to as glass flight decks. Glass flight decks are driven by computer-based subsystems and have long been a part of military and commercial aviation sectors. Over the past 15 years, the General Aviation (GA) sector of the aviation industry has become a recent beneficiary of the rapid advancement of computer-based glass flight deck (GFD) systems. While providing the GA pilot considerable enhancements in the quality of information about the status and operations of the aircraft, training pilots on the use of glass flight decks is often delivered with traditional methods (e.g. textbooks, PowerPoint presentations, user manuals, and limited computer-based training modules). These training methods have been reported as less than desirable in learning to use the glass flight deck interface. Difficulties in achieving a complete understanding of functional and operational characteristics of the GFD systems, acquiring a full understanding of the interrelationships of the varied subsystems, and handling the wealth of flight information provided have been reported. Documented pilot concerns of poor user experience and satisfaction, and problems with the learning the complex and sophisticated interface of the GFD are additional issues with current pilot training approaches. A case study was executed to explore ways to improve training using GFD systems at a Midwestern aviation university. The researcher investigated if variations in instructional systems design and training methods for learning glass flight deck technology would affect the perceptions and attitudes of pilots of the learnability (an attribute of usability) of the glass flight deck interface. Specifically, this study investigated the effectiveness of scenario-based training (SBT) methods to potentially improve pilot knowledge and understanding of a GFD system, and overall pilot user experience and satisfaction. Participants overwhelmingly reported positive learning experiences from scenario-based GFD systems flight training, noting that learning and knowledge construction were improved over other training received in the past. In contrast, participants rated the usability and learnability of the GFD training systems low, reporting various problems with the systems’ interface, and the learnability (first-time use) of the complex GFD system. However, issues with usability of the GFD training systems did not reduce or change participant attitudes towards learning and mastering GFD systems; to the contrary, all participants requested additional coursework opportunities to train on GFD systems with the scenario-based flight training format.

Aims The purpose of this study is to explore the possibilities for video-based learning of computer systems in the field of medical education in rural sub-Saharan Africa. Background Low-income countries are forced to perform healthcare services with resources already spread too thin. The use of electronic medical records can increase the cost-effectiveness of delivering healthcare services, but the low computer literacy in sub-Saharan Africa is an obstacle necessary to overcome. E-learning and video-based learning has the potential to partially solve this problem. Methods User observations were conducted on five healthcare workers in rural Uganda. The users watched an instruction video, after which they performed an assessment test of an electronic medical record system. Results Some effectiveness was perceived – but it was slight, and varied greatly between the test subjects. Computer experience is an important prerequisite for the success of e-learning initiatives. Effectiveness was higher for more simple tasks. Conclusion This paper does not propose video-based learning as the only source of training for the target group. However, there is a possibility to envision video-based learning as a building block in a blended-learning strategy – utilising video-based learning for easier tasks and knowledge retention for users who are already familiar with the system.

Managers of public libraries have been presented with a new set of challenges in the day-to-day operations of public libraries. These include their ability to serve as change agents as they manage the use of continuing online distance learning (CODL) for staff. This online tool may provide staff opportunities for on-the-job learning, yet for managers and managerial staff little is known about how the tool impacts their role in light of the changes. This research investigates the perceptions of 103 Northeast Texas Library System managers and managerial staff about their role as a change agent in the use of CODL using an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to determine the outcome. Administrators from urban, suburban, and rural public libraries were surveyed using a General Training Climate Scale to explore three constructs: extent of the manager role, manager role, and use of CODL. Data analysis was performed using exploratory and confirmatory analysis to support the theoretical model. An altered model was tested and confirmed through model fit indices.

Volume measurements of timber loads is done in conjunction with timber trade. When dealing with goods of major economic values such as these, it is important to achieve an impartial and fair assessment when determining price-based volumes. With the help of Saab’s missile targeting technology, CIND AB develops products for digital volume measurement of timber loads. Currently there is a system in operation that automatically reconstructs timber trucks in motion to create measurable images of them. Future iterations of the system is expected to fully automate the scaling by generating a volumetric representation of the timber and calculate its external gross volume. The first challenge towards this development is to separate the timber load from the truck. This thesis aims to evaluate and implement appropriate method for semantic pixel-wise segmentation of timber loads in real time. Image segmentation is a classic but difficult problem in computer vision. To achieve greater robustness, it is therefore important to carefully study and make use of the conditions given by the existing system. Variations in timber type, truck type and packing together create unique combinations that the system must be able to handle. The system must work around the clock in different weather conditions while maintaining high precision and performance.

Master’s thesis analyzes the informational technologies application in Lithuanian speech and language therapists’ work. The aim of this research - to assess the informational and communication technology (ICTs) and computer-based speech training system (CBST) use at the speech and language therapists work in comprehensive schools who work with persons who have language, speech and communication disorders. The empirical part of the paper deals with the use of ICTs/ CBST at speech and language therapists work, their possibility of usage, the coherence between speech therapists qualification and their age, the usage of the programs for development educable self-dependent tools, speech and language therapists interest in various sources of work-related topics and others. In the questionnaire survey (in electronic form) have participated 258 speech and language therapists who work in comprehensive schools.

I dagsläget är introduktionsutbildningen för sjuksköterskorna på kliniken för hematologi på Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset otillräcklig vilket kan bidra till en äventyrad patientsäkerhet. Kliniken hoppas på att, med hjälp av ett interaktivt nätbaserat lärverktyg, kunna effektivisera sjuksköterskornas interna utbildning, göra deras utbildningsmaterial lättare att lära och motivera dem till fortsatt lärande.   Detta examensarbete undersökte huruvida klinikens förhoppningar kunde uppnås. Detta undersöktes genom att skapa och utvärdera en prototyp till ett lärverktyg. Genom att kombinera teorier och forskning kring nätbaserad utbildning, användarcentrerad design, interaktionsdesign och lärandeperspektiv utvecklades ett prototypverktyg för nätbaserat lärande.   För att identifiera sjuksköterskornas behov och situation gjordes en förstudie i form av en enkät- och intervjuundersökning på klinikens personal samt en intervjustudie med ansvarig personal på kliniken och sjukhuset. En prototyp av verktyget utvecklades och dess användbarhet utvärderades tillsammans med sjuksköterskorna. Verktyget utvärderades även gällande hur det kunde effektivisera lärandet av det utbildningsmaterial inom cytostatika som tillhandahålls av landstinget; detta genom utformandet och testandet av en kurs.   Examensarbetets resultat identifierar de faktorer som bidrar till att göra ett nätbaserat lärverktyg användbart för klinikens personal. Dessa faktorer, tillsammans med identifierandet av de faktorer som påverkar deras lärandeprocess, bidrar till att effektivisera sjuksköterskornas introduktionsutbildning. Som slutsats kan ett lärverktyg som utvecklas tillsammans med berörd personal enligt en kombination av design- och lärandeperspektiv göras användbart och utbildande för att säkerställa sjuksköterskornas kompetenser och bidra till en ökad patientsäkerhet.
Today, the introductory training for the nurses of the clinic for hematology at the Karolinska University hospital is insufficient which could jeopardize the patient safety. The clinic is hoping, by using an interactive net based learning tool, to be able to streamline the nurses’ internal education, make their learning material more easily learnt and motivate them to continue learning.   This thesis examined whether the clinic’s desired results could be achieved. This was examined by creating and evaluate a prototype of a learning tool. By combining theories and research about net based education, user centered design, interaction design and learning perspectives a prototype was developed for net based learning.   In order to identify the nurses’ needs and situation, a pre-study was conducted in the form of surveys and interviews with the clinic’s personnel followed by an interview study with responsible staff at the clinic and the hospital. A prototype was developed and its usability was evaluated together with the nurses. The tool was also evaluated by its ability to streamline the learning of the educational material regarding Cytostatic which was given by the county council; this by designing and testing of a course.   The results of the thesis identifies the factors which contributes to making a net based learning tool usable for the clinics staff. These factors, together with identifying the factors that affect their learning process, contributes to streamline the nurses’ introductory training. In conclusion, a learning tool which has been developed with affected personnel through a combination of design and learning perspectives can be made usable and education in order to ensure the nurses’ competence and contribute to an increased patient safety.

The vehicles of tomorrow will be more sophisticated, intelligent and safe than the vehicles of today. The future is leaning towards fully autonomous vehicles. This degree project provides a data driven solution for a speed adaptation system that can be used to compute a vehicle speed for curves, suitable for the underlying driving style of the driver, road properties and weather conditions. A speed adaptation system for curves aims to compute a vehicle speed suitable for curves that can be used in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) or in Autonomous Driving (AD) applications. This degree project was carried out at Volvo Car Corporation. Literature in the field of speed adaptation systems and factors affecting the vehicle speed in curves was reviewed. Naturalistic driving data was both collected by driving and extracted from Volvo's data base and further processed. A novel speed adaptation system for curves was invented, implemented and evaluated. This speed adaptation system is able to compute a vehicle speed suitable for the underlying driving style of the driver, road properties and weather conditions. Two different artificial neural networks and two mathematical models were used to compute the desired vehicle speed in curves. These methods were compared and evaluated.
Morgondagens fordon kommer att vara mer sofistikerade, intelligenta och säkra än dagens fordon. Framtiden lutar mot fullständigt autonoma fordon. Detta examensarbete tillhandahåller en datadriven lösning för ett hastighetsanpassningssystem som kan beräkna ett fordons hastighet i kurvor som är lämpligt för förarens körstil, vägens egenskaper och rådande väder. Ett hastighetsanpassningssystem för kurvor har som mål att beräkna en fordonshastighet för kurvor som kan användas i Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) eller Autonomous Driving (AD) applikationer. Detta examensarbete utfördes på Volvo Car Corporation. Litteratur kring hastighetsanpassningssystem samt faktorer som påverkar ett fordons hastighet i kurvor studerades. Naturalistisk bilkörningsdata samlades genom att köra bil samt extraherades från Volvos databas och bearbetades. Ett nytt hastighetsanpassningssystem uppfanns, implementerades samt utvärderades. Hastighetsanpassningssystemet visade sig vara kapabelt till att beräkna en lämplig fordonshastighet för förarens körstil under rådande väderförhållanden och vägens egenskaper. Två olika artificiella neuronnätverk samt två matematiska modeller användes för att beräkna fordonets hastighet. Dessa metoder jämfördes och utvärderades.

In recent years, the information tools have begun to be extended on teaching. Computer is universal that is not just limited to edit data and visit website. There is teaching at outdoor education courses and language courses with computer as E-learning that is common in Taiwan. This study hopes that use multimedia devices with the course as a learning bridge. Order to encourage learners to enhance learning effectiveness, this study selected with RFID technology and E-learning in Operating System course. Students can enhance learning fun and effectiveness. The main experimental object is a private university in the third grade students and Operating System course. The result is that improve the effectiveness of student learning and motivation by use this system. In this paper, E-learning with RFID technology, learners visit the learning system and use computer with RFID interactive learning. The study enhances learning ability and effectiveness. And the learning is not confined to traditional teaching methods.

Traditional training programs can not supply semiconductor companies with capable Emergency Response Center (ERC) supervisors. The lack of experienced instructors and the complexity of training materials have put the system under the risks of wrong judgments and decisions making by under-trained workers. Via Computer-Based Training (CBT) system can be used to improve the workers’ learning effectiveness and efficiencies, its advantage can be fully explored only through appropriate training programs and well-designed interface screen, where the symbols and icons can be easily recognized and decoded by the potential trainees and its contents represent the necessary information of the real system. The objective of this research is to develop the Gas-Detecting training program that can support current training in ERC and evaluate the relationship between two forms of training materials and the performance of trainees. The training materials are classified into documented alphanumerical training materials, and computerized graphical training materials. Two stages research method were being preceded, feasibility study is the major purpose in the first stage, and development of the training program is the main work in the secondary stage. For the evaluation of the training program our subjects in this study are 16 engineering graduate students who have the potential to work as supervisors in ERC center. Subjects were randomly divided into two different groups. Self-developed computer program, which simulate the operation of Gas Detector Alarm Informing Procedure, is used as study tool to investigate the performance of trainees. Performance measurement indexes include trainees’ training time, response time, message processing time, number of errors and number of missing. The results of study indicate that Computer-Based Training material have significant effects on the trainees’ performance. The computerized graphical training materials require the least efforts and have the best performance than the current training way with manuals in the company. It is argued that in order to speed up the training process of the ERC trainee, the computerized graphical training materials are suggested. The results can be used to support the development of the training system for ERC personnel. Future study will focus on the development of ERC Decision making Computer-Based Training program and transform to E-learning type in the webpage.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate a programme aimed at equipping adult mine workers in the North-West Province in computer-based skills. The study describes how the use of computers for learning has transformed some of the mine workers in an Own-Time learning environment, where computers were integrated in their learning activities, compared to the Full-Time adult learning environment, which did not present a similar opportunity. The perspective of using a combination of two teaching methodologies in the Adult Education and Training (AET) curriculum provided at this mine sought to minimise the conventional didactic instructional approaches, whereby the facilitator does most of the talking while learners become passive listeners. Activity theory (AT), in tandem with the reviewed literature, was well suited as a theoretical framework for this study, since it takes a developmental view of minds and technological interaction in context. The activity system was used to map how existing work-related practices fitted into each component, which includes the subject, object, rule, community and division of labour. A case study was applied as a guiding design in the study in which seventeen mine workers participated. The computer activity was illustrated from multiple perspectives, using a qualitative approach and associated epistemologies and beliefs regarding the engagement with mediational tools. Boundary crossings, the zone of proximal development, and the eight-step-model from activity theory were used to scrutinise the learners’ beliefs, attitudes, knowledge, practices and contradictions. These important aspects assisted in obtaining data through participant observation, interviews and field notes. To discover patterns, concepts, themes and meanings from the notes and transcripts, data analysis was blended with these aspects. This study demonstrated the use of the above-mentioned methods at appropriate times. Without ideal and effective research methods, the quality of evidence of this study would have suffered and elucidations of connections would have been inadequate. The findings revealed that the AET programme made an impact on the company and on the individual participants, in their homes, their place of work, and their communities. Change in the workers’ performance after attending AET computer-based programmes was noticeable especially regarding their literate and numerate knowledge and skills. Contradictions and disturbances in the AET programme were also identified, and an intervention was proposed to facilitate a computer programme that includes the curriculum components such as mouse skills, keyboarding, data manipulation and desktop publishing. The study proposes that the AET policy needs to cover Own-Time learners, even though their learning is not obligatory, in the same way as it covers the Full-Time learners. A modified activity theory, contextualised for a situation such as that in the mine in question, was contributed in the study. Furthermore, some limitations and recommendations for future research were identified from the findings. The proposed AT for adult learners suggests a new way of exploring the practices of mind and technology interaction for adult learners, incorporating cultural backgrounds, age, language, values and beliefs as well as reflective decision making.

Τα σύγχρονα πληροφοριακά συστήματα μάθησης τα οποία υποστηρίζουν εξ’ αποστάσεως εκπαίδευση, επιτρέπουν τη συστηματική διαχείριση του εκπαιδευτικού υλικού και υποστηρίζουν τις εκπαιδευτικές διαδικασίες των μαθημάτων. Τα συστήματα αυτά έχουν λειτουργικότητες όπως: η ανάρτηση ψηφιακού υλικού, η διεξαγωγή συζητήσεων, η ανάρτηση ασκήσεων-εργασιών, η πραγματοποίηση εξετάσεων και πολλές άλλες. Στόχος της συγκεκριμένης εργασίας είναι η διερεύνηση του χώρου των συστημάτων μάθησης τα οποία υποστηρίζουν εξ’ αποστάσεως εκπαίδευση καθώς επίσης και η παρουσίαση και η εφαρμογή μεθόδου αξιολόγησης τους, αξιολογώντας τα συστήματα σύμφωνα με μια λίστα λειτουργικών απαιτήσεων. Στο 1ο κεφάλαιο της διπλωματικής εργασίας γίνεται μια περιγραφή των βασικών εννοιών της εξ’αποστάσεως εκπαίδευσης καθώς επίσης και έννοιες που αφορούν τα συστήματα υποστήριξης μάθησης όπως:CBT, VLE, LMS, LCMS, CMS, Mobile Learning. Στο 2ο κεφάλαιο γίνεται μια επισκόπηση του χώρου των Συστημάτων Μάθησης Learning Course Management Systems (LCMS). Συγκεκριμένα γίνεται μία καταγραφή των χαρακτηριστικών των πιο δημοφιλών συστημάτων τόσο των εμπορικών όσο και των συστημάτων ανοικτού κώδικα με τη χρήση ενός κοινού template όπου καταγράφονται τα εξής στοιχεία: Κατασκευαστής, Σύντομη περιγραφή Λογισμικού, Πλεονεκτήματα (Δυνατά Σημεία ), Μειονεκτήματα (Αδυναμίες, Ελλείψεις), Πελατολόγιο, Τρέχουσα Έκδοση έτσι ώστε να μπορεί κάποιος εύκολα να τα συγκρίνει και να τα αξιολογήσει. Στο 3ο κεφάλαιο πραγματοποιείται ανάλυση απαιτήσεων ενός σύγχρονου συστήματος μάθησης έτσι ώστε να μπορεί να εφαρμοστεί η μεθοδολογία αξιολόγησης σε μια λίστα από χαρακτηριστικά-απαιτήσεις για τα συστήματα που παρουσιάζονται στο κεφάλαιο 2. Στο 4ο κεφάλαιο παρουσιάζεται η μεθοδολογία Αξιολόγησης των συστημάτων μάθησης η οποία στηρίζεται στη θεωρία της ασαφούς λογικής. Η συγκεκριμένη μεθοδολογία εφαρμόστηκε σαν μελέτη περίπτωσης για την αξιολόγηση συστημάτων εκπαιδευτικών δραστηριοτήτων προκειμένου να βρεθεί το πλέον κατάλληλο σύστημα για τις ανάγκες του Ελληνικού Ανοικτού Πανεπιστημίου. Τέλος στο κεφάλαιο 5 πραγματοποιείται η εφαρμογή της μεθοδολογίας αξιολόγησης μεταξύ των συστημάτων μάθησης και παρουσιάζονται τα αποτελέσματα- συμπεράσματα που εξάγονται από την εφαρμογή της μεθόδου ενώ στο τελευταίο κεφάλαιο (6ο ) παρουσιάζονται τα συμπεράσματα της εργασίας.
Modern learning information systems are designed to support distance education and have many features to support learning sequence such as: management of educational material, tools for uploading projects in several kinds (documents, multimedia files), many kinds of quizzes, grades management, forums, reports wiz and many others. The aim of this master thesis is the investigation of available learning course management systems(LCMS), requirements analysis for LCMS and presentation and implementation of an evaluation methodology for LCMS based on a requirements list. In the first chapter of this thesis, we describe the basic concepts and definitions of e-Learning, as well as concepts relating to learning support systems such as: CBT(Computer Based Training), VLE(Virtual Learning Environment), LMS(Learning Management Systems), LCMS(Learning Course Management Systems), CMS (Course Management Systems), Mobile Learning etc. The second chapter contains an investigation in the area of Learning Course Management Systems (LCMS). We used a common template in order to describe the features of the most popular LCMS (either Open Source or Commercial). The template contains features like: Small Description of any LCMS (Software Manufacturer and History, Active Users and Installations, Database Requirements, Web Server, Manufacturer Clients, Current Stable Version), Strengths of the Software, Weaknesses of the Software, Available Mobile Version. This features have been chosen in order to become easy the comparison and after that the evaluation of the systems. The third chapter contains requirements analysis of a modern learning course management system so that the evaluation methodology can be applied to a specified list of features-requirements for the systems presented in chapter 2. In the fourth chapter there is the presentation of the evaluation methodology which uses a multicriteria technical analysis which belongs to the field of methods of Multi-Criteria Group-based Decision Making Techniques, while uses methods of (intuitionistic) fuzzy logic. This method exports the results using a technique TOPSIS(Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution). In this chapter there is the theoretical description of the methodology which has been implemented as a case study for evaluating learning management systems in order to find the most suitable system for the needs of the Hellenic Open University(HOU). In Chapter 5 we will find the implementation steps of the methodology in order to exclude the most suitable LCMS for HOU and the final results(list of Systems). We will also find the conclusions of the implementation of this method. Finally the last chapter (6th) presents the final conclusions of the whole thesis and the added value this thesis offers in this field of research .
