Abstract The Omics Discovery Index is an open source platform that can be used to access, discover and disseminate omics datasets. OmicsDI integrates proteomics, genomics, metabolomics, models and transcriptomics datasets. Using an efficient indexing system, OmicsDI integrates different biological entities including genes, transcripts, proteins, metabolites and the corresponding publications from PubMed. In addition, it implements a group of pipelines to estimate the impact of each dataset by tracing the number of citations, reanalysis and biological entities reported by each dataset. Here, we present the OmicsDI REST interface (www.omicsdi.org/ws/) to enable programmatic access to any dataset in OmicsDI or all the datasets for a specific provider (database). Clients can perform queries on the API using different metadata information such as sample details (species, tissues, etc), instrumentation (mass spectrometer, sequencer), keywords and other provided annotations. In addition, we present two different libraries in R and Python to facilitate the development of tools that can programmatically interact with the OmicsDI REST interface.

With the fast deployment of cloud computing, MapReduce architectures are becoming the major technologies for mobile cloud computing. The concept of MapReduce was first introduced as a novel programming model and implementation for a large set of computing devices. In this research, we propose a novel concept of REST-MapReduce, enabling users to use only the REST interface without using the MapReduce architecture. This approach provides a higher level of abstraction by integration of the two types of access interface, REST API and MapReduce. The motivation of this research stems from the slower response time for accessing simple RDBMS on Hadoop than direct access to RDMBS. This is because there is overhead to job scheduling, initiating, starting, tracking, and management during MapReduce-based parallel execution. Therefore, we provide a good performance for REST Open API service and for MapReduce, respectively. This is very useful for constructing REST Open API services on Hadoop hosting services, for example, Amazon AWS (Macdonald, 2005) or IBM Smart Cloud. For evaluating performance of our REST-MapReduce framework, we conducted experiments with Jersey REST web server and Hadoop. Experimental result shows that our approach outperforms conventional approaches.

Aiming at the problem of tight coupling and interface complexity of WebService based on XML-RPC interactive model, this paper proposed the REST-based WebService, and gave out the design method of each part, including the design of restful Resource-Oriented Architecture, design of request and response interactive model and design of service discovery architecture based on semantic search. This research result was applied into an actual project, which indicated this WebService is loose coupling, interface uniform, portability, reliability and has good web-scale scalability features. Finally, an example is presented to illustrate this WebService architecture.

We present a networked system with interchangeable constraints for studying skillful human movements via haptic (PHANToM-based) displays. The unified interface easily links different physical models with 2D and 3D static spatial constraints and graphical content related to the models. We analyzed motions based on data recorded by a history unit with a frequency of 100Hz. Theoretical and experimental kinematic profiles compared for several cases of basic reaching rest-to-rest tasks included curve-constrained motions with different curvatures, flexible object control, and cooperative two-arm movements. Experimental patterns exhibit the best agreement with optimal control models based on jerk and force-change minimization criteria.

The way of Web services work naturally makes it the system interface for software communication of a cloud computing architecture. And REST(REpresentational Status Transfer) philosophy is a better way to construct Web services since it is fundamental to the Web and can make full use of the features of the Web. We implement RESTful APIs for learning resource cloud, and the benefits of an Ajax(Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) Web service client to the REST APIs are discussed.

Objectives To compare the interface pressure during rest and exercise among various kinds of arm sleeves. Methods The interface pressure underneath nine different arm sleeves was measured during 10 maximal opening and closing movements of fingers using a pressure transducer (Air Pack Type Analyser) in 16 healthy volunteers. Furthermore, in order to evaluate the characteristics of each arm sleeve, the extensibility, stiffness and thickness were determined in vitro by several apparatuses. Results There was a significant correlation between stiffness and extensibility. The stiffness was significantly correlated with the pressure difference between muscle contraction and relaxation during exercise. The higher the value of stiffness, the greater the pressure amplitude during exercise. Conclusion Short-stretch arm sleeves characterized with a high level stiffness, including thick round- and flat-knitted arm sleeves, are more beneficial for the augmentation of muscle pumping than long-stretch arm sleeves, in the same way as short-stretch bandages or stockings applied to the leg.

The inertial force due to the acceleration of a locomotion interface is identified as a difference between virtual and real-world locomotion. To counter the inertial force, inertial-force feedback was implemented for the Treadport, a locomotion interface. A force controller was designed for a mechanical tether to apply the feedback force to the user. For the case of the user accelerating forward from rest, psychophysical ex periments showed that subjects preferred inertial-force feedback to a spring-feedback force proportional to position or to position control, where the force feedback maintained a force of zero on the subject.

SOA and REST are the two main architectural styles used for distributed applications. Current SOA implementations use Web Services, which have a flexible service interface but lack resource structure. Current REST implementations use HTTP, with good structural support (through URIs) but fixed service interface, leading to a significant mismatch in modeling some application artifacts. In addition, current data description languages support distributed interoperability by schema sharing (XML) or predefined media types (JSON). This paper makes two main proposals: an architectural style, Structural Service, capable of combining resource structure with flexible services, and a distributed interoperability mechanism, based on structural compliance and conformance, which supports partial interoperability and reduces coupling between interacting services while ensuring that the interoperability requirements of the application are satisfied. Since current technologies do not readily support these proposals, the author developed a language and its execution platform that supports structural services and compliance and conformance.

From these problems, an Application Programming Interface (API)-based donation transaction system was developed as Backend Development and implemented for Android-based Mobile and Websites. Playing a musical instrument is a constrained motor activity; the instrument has a fixed geometry and playing technique that the performer must accommodate. Although the performer progressively adapts to the instrument during years of education, few options are available for adapting the instrument to the performer. The present work is intended to quantitatively describe the effects of using different setups of the violin shoulder rest during performance. Three conditions were considered, the maximum and minimum heights allowed by the shoulder rest and the absence of the shoulder rest. The setups allowed a height variation of <40 mm. Fifteen skilled violin players performed a three-octave scale in G with the three rest setups. An optoelectronic motion capture system measured the positions of passive markers placed on the player's body and on the violin and bow, in order to compute, by means of mathematical models, the kinematics of the body, violin, and bow. The increase in rest height was significantly related to a reduction in head rotation (–7.0°), left shoulder rotation (–8.5°), and left acromion elevation (–17.2 mm) and to an increase in left shoulder flexion (+8.2°) and left forearm pronation (+8.8°). In general, the results demonstrate that a skilled player is able to adapt to any shoulder rest setup and can maintain the quality of sound, and that the adaptations are primarily those of the anatomical systems involved in holding the violin and not in holding the bow. Moreover, adjustment of the shoulder rest setup appears to be the individual's search for a tradeoff position, which possibly may be alleviated by adopting objective assessment and innovative shoulder rests.

A 4.88-m (16-ft), full-scale retaining wall test facility was constructed to investigate the use of tire shreds as backfill for conventional retaining walls. The facility can test backfill at at-rest and active conditions and is instrumental for measuring horizontal stress and interface shear. Tire shreds from three suppliers were tested. The results for at-rest conditions are presented. The average at-rest horizontal stress for tire shreds was about 45 percent less than expected for conventional granular backfill. Moreover, the at-rest horizontal stress was about the same for tire shreds from the three suppliers. Design parameters were developed by using two procedures. The first used the coefficient of lateral earth pressure and the other was based on equivalent fluid pressure. The horizontal and shear forces acting on the concrete face of the wall were used to determine the angle of wall friction, which ranged from 30° to 32° for tire shreds from the three suppliers.

A long-standing question in molecular biology is whether interfaces of protein-protein complexes are more conserved than the rest of the protein surfaces. Although it has been reported that conservation can be used as an indicator for predicting interaction sites on proteins, there are recent reports stating that the interface regions are only slightly more conserved than the rest of the protein surfaces, with conservation signals not being statistically significant enough for predicting protein-protein binding sites. In order to properly address these controversial reports we have studied a set of 28 well resolved hetero complex structures of proteins that consists of transient and non-transient complexes. The surface positions were classified into four conservation classes and the conservation index of the surface positions was quantitatively analyzed. The results indicate that the surface density of highly conserved positions is significantly higher in the protein-protein interface regions compared with the other regions of the protein surface. However, the average conservation index of the patches in the interface region is not significantly higher compared with other surface regions of the protein structures. This finding demonstrates that the number of conserved residue positions is a more appropriate indicator for predicting protein-protein binding sites than the average conservation index in the interacting region. We have further validated our findings on a set of 59 benchmark complex structures. Furthermore, an analysis of 19 complexes of antigen-antibody interactions shows that there is no conservation of amino acid positions in the interacting regions of these complexes, as expected, with the variable region of the immunoglobulins interacting mostly with the antigens. Interestingly, antigen interacting regions also have a higher number of non-conserved residue positions in the interacting region than the rest of the protein surface.

The IT industry has a high demand for REST API Development, hence this article provides an interactive teaching and learning platform for REST API Development. Using the LBD (Learning By Doing) concept, the suggested platform seeks to assist users in learning REST API Development. This tool would assist users in learning to design their own APIs by requiring them to practise (either through coding or MCQs). The platform would be based on selfevaluation and reflection models of self-regulated learning, allowing users to learn more effectively. The platform would also try to provide some scaffolding for users that fail test cases, such as assistance in debugging and why they might be failing the test cases. We consider the two-phase problem for two-dimensional and irrotational motion of incompressible ideal fluids in the case that the fluids are separated into the lower and the upper parts by an almost horizontal interface and that there is an almost flat bottom below the lower fluid. It is proved that the Cauchy problem is well-posed, locally in time, in a Sobolev space of finite smoothness, if the surface tension is taken into account and the initial data are suitably close to the equilibrium rest state. The main part of the proof is the reduction of the problem to a quasi-linear system of integro-differential equations for the function defining the interface and the horizontal component of the velocity of the lower fluid on the interface.

The time dependence of static friction is an important aspect of tribological studies whereby the static friction increases with an increase in the time of stationary contact (rest static friction or rest stiction). This effect is commonly observed in computer disk drives especially at high humidities, in which the static friction increases rapidly with an increase in rest time between some head slider and the disk surfaces. For the first time, a comprehensive kinetic meniscus model is proposed to explain this phenomenon, both for a single asperity and multiple asperity contacts at a liquid mediated interface. It is found that the static friction increases up to a certain equilibrium time with a power law relationship after which it remains constant. The equilibrium time is dependent on the liquid film thickness, the liquid viscosity and the contact geometry. The model developed is applied to a rough textured disk, a polished disk and a super smooth disk. To study the effect of the scan size on the meniscus force, the static friction is calculated by using roughness parameters obtained from measurements at different scan sizes.

A mathematical model for the phenomenon of penetration of fluid into permeable walls is developed for second grade fluids. The model is based on mechanical principles which involve normal stresses at the boundary and contact forces at the fluid-boundary interface. Stability of the rest state is proved. The results are compared to that for the simplified case of a Navier–Stokes fluid.

Software designers with limited knowledge of human factors often play a crucial role in the design of user interfaces. The thesis of this paper is that the field of human factors needs to be concerned with the design of interfaces between itself and the rest of the design community. We identify the mission objective for the human factors-design interface as improving the overall quality of design by enhancing communication and the transfer of knowledge. A selected set of requirements for the interface includes (1) communication, from human factors to designers, of proven and relevant design approaches, and (2) communication, from designers to human factors, of pertinent design constraints and methods of integrating human factors concerns and data into design. A discussion of concepts for the human factors-design interface describes and analyzes educational technologies (e.g., video classes and short courses), an electronic gatekeeper (a bulletin board-like system through which human factors experts and designers communicate), and design analysis software (which automatically apply human factors principles to designs).

The Metabolomics Workbench (MW) is a public scientific data repository consisting of experimental data and metadata from metabolomics studies collected with mass spectroscopy (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analyses. MW has been constantly evolving; updating its ‘mwTab’ text file format, adding a JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) file format, implementing a REpresentational State Transfer (REST) interface, and nearly quadrupling the number of datasets hosted on the repository within the last three years. In order to keep up with the quickly evolving state of the MW repository, the ‘mwtab’ Python library and package have been continuously updated to mirror the changes in the ‘mwTab’ and JSONized formats and contain many new enhancements including methods for interacting with the MW REST interface, enhanced format validation features, and advanced features for parsing and searching for specific metabolite data and metadata. We used the enhanced format validation features to evaluate all available datasets in MW to facilitate improved curation and FAIRness of the repository. The ‘mwtab’ Python package is now officially released as version 1.0.1 and is freely available on GitHub and the Python Package Index (PyPI) under a Clear Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD) license with documentation available on ReadTheDocs.

Fluid Mech., vol. 642, 2010, p. 147) analysed the motion of the interface of an inviscid liquid column released from rest in a vertical tube whose area expands gradually downwards, with application to an inverted conical container for which experimental measurements were carried out. An error in the analysis is found and corrected in the present investigation, which provides the new governing equation for the super-accelerated interface motion down gradually varying tubes in general, and integrated results for interface trajectories, velocities and accelerations down a conical tube in particular. Interestingly, the error does not affect any of the conclusions given in the 2010 paper. Further new results are reported here such as the equation governing the centre of mass and proof that the end point acceleration is exactly that of gravity.

Cloud offers many ready-made REST services for the end users. This offer realizes the service composition through implementation somewhere on internet based on Service Level Agreement (SLA). For ensuring this SLA, a software testing is a useful means for attesting a non-functional requirement that guarantees quality assurance from end user's perspective. However, test engineer experiences only what goes in and out through an interface that contains a high level behaviors separated from its underlying details. Testing with these behaviors become an issue for classical testing procedures. So, REST API through composition is an alternative new promising approach for modeling behaviors with parameters against the cloud. This new approach helps to devise test effectiveness in terms of REST based behavior-driven implementation. It aims to understand functional behaviors through API methods based on input domain modeling (IDM) on the standard keyboard pattern. By making an effective REST design the test engineer sends complete test inputs to its API directly on application, and gets test responses from the infrastructure. We consider NEMo mobility API specification to design an IDM, which represents pattern match of mobility search URL API path scope. With this scope, sample mobility REST API service compositions are used. Then, the test assertions are implemented to validate each path resource to test the components and the end-to-end integration on the specified service.

The article presents a comparison of the performance of three ways of implementing programming interfaces used in web applications - REST, GraphQL and gRPC. For the purposes of the research, three applications were developed, which were made in each of the indicated technologies and with the same functionalities. The applications were used for performance tests carried out with the use of the k6 tool. The applications are used to measure the execution time, performance and volume of processed data during display and adding operations. The obtained results allowed for the conclusion that the best interface in terms of performance (measured as the number of transactions per second) and server response time is REST. However, in terms of the smallest data volume, gRPC is the best choice.

In order to discuss the friction resistance properties between pile and soil, three groups of shear laboratory tests of pile-soil interface are adopted among concrete-soil , steel-soil and plastic(HDPE)-soil, and each test applies six normal stresses. The result indicates that with the growth of normal stress, the shear strength of pile-soil are increased; under the same normal stress, there is little change in frontal parts of curve with shear stress and displacement, but the rest of curve have a striking change along with the increase of normal stress; when the normal stress is less, the shear stress of different interfaces have little change; when the normal stress is greater, it shows that the shear strength of HDPE-soil interface is the greatest.

A state-of-the-art brain–computer interface (BCI) system includes brain signal acquisition, noise removal, channel selection, feature extraction, classification, and an application interface. In functional near-infrared spectroscopy-based BCI (fNIRS-BCI) channel selection may enhance classification performance by identifying suitable brain regions that contain brain activity. In this study, the z-score method for channel selection is proposed to improve fNIRS-BCI performance. The proposed method uses cross-correlation to match the similarity between desired and recorded brain activity signals, followed by forming a vector of each channel’s correlation coefficients’ maximum values. After that, the z-score is calculated for each value of that vector. A channel is selected based on a positive z-score value. The proposed method is applied to an open-access dataset containing mental arithmetic (MA) and motor imagery (MI) tasks for twenty-nine subjects. The proposed method is compared with the conventional t-value method and with no channel selected, i.e., using all channels. The z-score method yielded significantly improved (p < 0.0167) classification accuracies of 87.2 ± 7.0%, 88.4 ± 6.2%, and 88.1 ± 6.9% for left motor imagery (LMI) vs. rest, right motor imagery (RMI) vs. rest, and mental arithmetic (MA) vs. rest, respectively. The proposed method is also validated on an open-access database of 17 subjects, containing right-hand finger tapping (RFT), left-hand finger tapping (LFT), and dominant side foot tapping (FT) tasks.The study shows an enhanced performance of the z-score method over the t-value method as an advancement in efforts to improve state-of-the-art fNIRS-BCI systems’ performance.

Teknologi API yang terkenal adalah Representational State Transfer (REST) dan keamanan pada REST memerlukan sistem autentikasi yang akan memberikan hak akses pada server REST. Proses autentikasi yang sering dilakukan adalah dengan verifikasi nama pengguna dan kata sandi sebagai muatan berbentuk Javascript Object Notation (JSON). Sebagai upaya pengamanan, kata sandi dapat dienkripsi dengan JSON Web Token (JWT) agar data tersamarkan ketika server diretas. Pada implementasi JWT, dibutuhkan sistem kriptografi pembuat tanda tangan digital untuk memastikan keotentikan pengguna. Pada Penelitian ini akan dibahas salah satu sistem kriptografi yang dapat diandalkan, yakni Rivest, Shamir, and Adleman (RSA) tanda tangan dengan Secure Hash Algorithm 256-bit (SHA-256) atau disingkat menjadi RS256. RS256 adalah algoritme asimetris yang menggunakan pasangan kunci publik dan kunci pribadi. Untuk mendapatkan kunci dari RSA perlu 3 proses yakni proses pembentukan, tanda tangan dan verifikasi kunci. Yang dimana saat proses tanda tangan dan verfikasi, digunakan fungsi hashing SHA-256 untuk menghindari resistensi tabrakan.

A description is made of the transient shape of interface of a two-layer liquid in an abruptly rotating circular cylinder. The density of the lower layer is higher than that of the upper layer, but the viscosities may assume arbitrary values. The overall Ekman number is much smaller than unity, and the cylinder aspect ratio is 0(1). The classical Wedemeyer model, which deals with the spin-up from rest of a homogeneous fluid, is extended to tackle the two-layer liquid system. If the upper-layer fluid is of higher viscosity, the interface, at small and intermediate times, rises (sinks) in the center (periphery). After reaching a maximum height at the center, the interface tends to the parabolic shape characteristic of the final-state rigid-body rotation. If the lower-layer fluid is of higher viscosity, the interface, at small and intermediate times, sinks (rises) in the center (periphery). The deformation at the center reaches a minimum height, after which the interface approaches the final-state parabola. The gross adjustment process is accomplished over the spin-up time scale, En−1/2Ω−1, where En and Ω denote the lower value of the Ekman numbers of the two layers and the angular velocity of the cylindrical container, respectively. These depictions are consistent with the physical explanations offered earlier. A turntable experiment is performed to portray the transient interface shape. The model predictions of the interface form are in satisfactory agreement with the laboratory measurements.

The majority of proposed NIRS-BCIs has considered binary classification. Studies considering high-order classification problems have yielded average accuracies that are less than favorable for practical communication. Consequently, there is a paucity of evidence supporting online classification of more than two mental states using NIRS. We developed an online ternary NIRS-BCI that supports the verbal fluency task (VFT), Stroop task and rest. The system utilized two sessions dedicated solely to classifier training. Additionally, samples were collected prior to each period of online classification to update the classifier. Using a continuous-wave spectrometer, measurements were collected from the prefrontal and parietal cortices while 11 able-bodied adult participants were cued to perform one of the two cognitive tasks or rests. Each task was used to indicate the desire to select a particular letter on a scanning interface, while rest avoided selection. Classification was performed using 25 iteration of bagging with a linear discriminant base classifier. Classifiers were trained on 10-dimensional feature sets. The BCI’s classification decision was provided as feedback. An average online classification accuracy of [Formula: see text]% was achieved, representing an ITR of [Formula: see text] bits/min. The results demonstrate that online communication can be achieved with a ternary NIRS-BCI that supports VFT, Stroop task and rest. Our findings encourage continued efforts to enhance the ITR of NIRS-BCIs.

AbstractThis paper details an approach to re-purposing scientific data as presented on a web page for the sole purpose of making the data more available for searching and integration into other websites. Data ‘scraping’ is used to extract metadata from a set of pages on the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) website, clean, organize and store the metadata in a MySQL database. The metadata is then used to create a new website at the authors institution using the CakePHP framework to create a representational state transfer (REST) style application program interface (API). The processes used for website analysis, schema development, database construction, metadata scraping, REST API development, and remote data integration are discussed. Lessons learned and tips and tricks on how to get the most out of the process are also included.

In current work, Gurtin–Murdoch surface/interface and nonlocal theories are presented to investigate nonlinear vibration and stability analysis of piezoelectric nanoresonator simultaneously subjected to direct and alternating voltages. Complex averaging method combined with arc-length continuation is used to achieve the nonlinear frequency response and stability analysis of the piezoelectric nanoresonator. It is concluded that ignoring surface and small-scale effects lead to inaccurate results in vibration response of the piezoelectric nanoresonator. Also, with increasing dimensionless nonlocal parameter and decreasing nanoshell stiffness, dimensionless natural frequency, the resonance amplitude, the range of instability with saddle-node bifurcations and nonlinear hardening behavior, and also resonance frequency decrease. In addition, it is found that when the surface/interface effects corresponding to higher surface/interface density are considered, natural frequency is increased. Also, regardless the Lamé’s constants lead to decreasing of piezoelectric nanoresonator stiffness, and as a result, the dimensionless natural frequency is lower than all cases. The rest of the surface/interface parameters do not have much effect on the dimensionless natural frequency. Also, with increasing electrostatic and piezoelectric voltages, the oscillation amplitude and range of the piezoelectric nanoresonator system’s instability and all nonlinear behavior of piezoelectric nanoresonator are increased.

The goal of this research was to investigate the effects of interface design on the participation, interaction, and achievement of students in a computer-mediated small-group discussion. Previous research indicated that computer-mediated communication systems encouraged a breakdown in the normative constraints of social interaction. Because of the unrestricted ability to participate within a computer-mediated system, any member may interject a comment or response that is out of sync with the rest of the group. This creates havoc with the flow of an interaction because the member was not properly cognizant of the current state of the discussion, through reading the preceding comments by other group members. This study investigated whether this breakdown in normative structure could be repaired by redesigning the user interface. Consequently, specific software was designed and developed to investigate this question. One version of the software used a graphic-based interface while the second version utilized the more traditional text-based interface. A sample of sixty-five students participated in the study. Subjects in the graphic-based version sent more messages and addressed them more often to an individual than subjects using the text-based interface. There was, however, no difference in the amount of participation or achievement between the two conditions. The results of this study suggest that it is possible to design an interface that encourages the use of constraints normative to group interaction. This has important implications for small-group instruction.

This paper describes an investigation of the determination of the heat transfer coefficient at the workpiece-die interface for the forging process. A surface thermocouple has been constructed to measure the temperature at the die surface, where a high pressure occurs, for the simple upsetting forging process. The process was also simulated by a commercial finite element package. The measured and predicted temperatures were then used in an inverse algorithm with an iterative approach to determine the interface heat transfer coefficient (IHTC). The results show that the predicted temperatures modelled by a constant IHTC at the rest-on-die stage were in good agreement with the experimental measurement. However, for the forging stage, the IHTC values vary significantly during the process. This has important consequences in the implementation of simulation software.

A full-scale experimental test for large and complex structures is not always achievable. This can be due to many reasons, the most prominent one being the size limitations of the test. Real-time dynamic substructuring is a hybrid testing method where part of the system is modelled numerically and the rest of the system is kept as the physical test specimen. The numerical–physical parts are connected via actuators and sensors and the interface is controlled by advanced algorithms to ensure that the tested structure replicates the emulated system with sufficient accuracy. The main challenge in such a test is to overcome the dynamic effects of the actuator and associated controller, that inevitably introduce delay into the substructured system which, in turn, can destabilize the experiment. To date, most research concentrates on developing control strategies for stable recreation of the full system when the interface location is given a priori . Therefore, substructurability is mostly studied in terms of control. Here, we consider the interface location as a parameter and study its effect on the stability of the system in the presence of delay due to actuator dynamics and define substructurability as the system’s tolerance to delay in terms of the different interface locations. It is shown that the interface location has a major effect on the tolerable delays in an experiment and, therefore, careful selection of it is necessary.

Graph-QL (Query Language) is a new concept in the Application Programming Interface (API). Graph-QL was developed by Facebook which is implemented on the server-side. Although it is a query language, Graph-QL is not directly related to the database, in other words, Graph-QL is not limited to certain databases, either SQL or NoSQL. The position of Graph-QL is on the client and server-side that access an API. One of the objectives of developing this query language is to facilitate data communication between the backend and frontend / mobile applications. For this reason, this paper will examine the responsibility of Graph-QL in terms of response time and response size in the development of an integrated competency certification test system based on web service and compared with efficiency and flexibility using the REST API. From the test results, it was found that Graph-QL provided some advantages compare to REST API. It give more flexibility for the clients to access the data and solve the most typical problem that was over or under fetching cause by fixed data given by REST API endpoints.

Web service merupakan kunci integritas untuk aplikasi yang berbeda platform, bahasa, dan sistem. Representational State Transfer (REST) merupakan prinsip aplikasi web service dengan menambahkan sebuah elemen untuk menggunakan Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) standar, memberikan kepentingan kepada penggunaan HTTP serta menjadi metode yang lebih baik untuk membangun web service. Filosofi REST mendukung prinsip dan protocol yang ada di web untuk membuat web service yang lebih powerful. Resource-Oriented Architecture (ROA) menetapkan sejumlah batasan dalam pembangunan aplikasi RESTful web service, yaitu addressability, statelessnes, uniform interfaces, representations, dan connectedness. Pemanfaatan web service dengan metode ROA pada Perusahaan dengan skala besar dapat memenuhi kebutuhan bisnis dan dapat membangun sistem yang memiliki keuntungan dalam skalabilitas interaksi komponen, generality of interface, komponen yang berdiri sendiri dan komponen penengah yang dapat mengurangi latency, menekankan keamanan, dan mengenkapsulasi legacy-system. Analisis dan implementasi RESTful Web Service terhadap aplikasi berupa kinerja dan trafik data manajemen menggunakan Resource-oriented Architecture agar aplikasi yang menggunakan web service lebih stabil dan web service membantu pengiriman data dari dan ke database berupa antrian eksekusi yang teratur. Finding a parking space in a city is one of the most common activities of a driver. This becomes more difficult when the city is unknown or has huge vehicular congestion. A solution to address this issue is called smart parking. Smart parking solutions rely on Internet of Things (IoT) and several technologies to achieve their purpose. This paper proposes an architecture for deploying a smart parking solution based on Long-Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) sensors, LoRaWAN and a cluster of Kubernetes. This approach provides an open architecture able to share information with other parties through a REST API interface. Likewise, it contains a mobile and a web application for user interaction. This solution provides an administration interface for managing parking lots. The user interface lets a user to find, view information, display available spaces and rate a parking lot in real time. This solution could be used as an application as service parking system. The proposed architecture is fully portable and scalable due to the use of Kubernetes.

This paper reviews the prototype dataset accounting developed during the EGI-Engage project and how it could be used to complement the view that the WLCG has of its datasets. This is a new feature of the EGI resource accounting system that will enable storing information on dataset usage such as who has accessed a dataset and how often. The new REST interface used for retrieving usage metrics from the EGI DataHub is described as well as further work that is required.

Currently, most middleware application developers have two choices when designing or implementing Application Programming Interface (API) services; i.e., they can either stick with Representational State Transfer (REST) or explore the emerging GraphQL technology. Although REST is widely regarded as the standard method for API development, GraphQL is believed to be revolutionary in overcoming the main drawbacks of REST, especially data-fetching issues. Nevertheless, doubts still remain, as there are no investigations with convincing results in evaluating the performance of the two services. This paper proposes a new research methodology to evaluate the performance of REST and GraphQL API services with two main ideas as novelties. The first novel method is the evaluation of the two services is performed on the real ongoing operation of the management information system, where massive and intensive query transactions take place on a complex database with many relationships. The second is the fair and independent performance evaluation results obtained by distributing client requests and synchronizing the service responses on the two virtually separated parallel execution paths for each API service, respectively. The performance evaluation was investigated using basic measures of QoS (Quality of Services), i.e., response time, throughput, CPU load, and memory usage. We use the term efficiency in comparing the evaluation results to capture differences in their performance measures. The statistical hypothesis parameters test using the two-tails paired t-test, and boxplot visualization was also given to confirm the significance of the comparison results. The results showed REST is still faster up to 50.50% in response time and 37.16% for throughput, while GraphQL is very efficient in resource utilization, i.e., 37.26% for CPU load and 39.74% for memory utilization. Therefore, GraphQL is the right choice when data requirements change frequently, and resource utilization is the most important consideration. REST is used when some data are frequently accessed and called by multiple requests.

Android malware has become the topmost threat for the ubiquitous and useful Android ecosystem. Multiple solutions leveraging big data and machine-learning capabilities to detect Android malware are being constantly developed. Too often, these solutions are either limited to research output or remain isolated and incapable of reaching end users or malware researchers. An earlier work named PACE (Platform for Android Malware Classification and Performance Evaluation), was introduced as a unified solution to offer open and easy implementation access to several machine-learning-based Android malware detection techniques, that makes most of the research reproducible in this domain. The benefits of PACE are offered through three interfaces: Representational State Transfer (REST) Application Programming Interface (API), Web Interface, and Android Debug Bridge (ADB) interface. These multiple interfaces enable users with different expertise such as IT administrators, security practitioners, malware researchers, etc. to use their offered services. In this paper, we propose PACER (Platform for Android Malware Classification, Performance Evaluation, and Threat Reporting), which extends PACE by adding threat intelligence and reporting functionality for the end-user device through the ADB interface. A prototype of the proposed platform is introduced, and our vision is that it will help malware analysts and end users to tackle challenges and reduce the amount of manual work.

Unstable rock is the typical geological disaster in areas of highway, city and mine. Energy from rupture of unstable rock passes around by excitation wave, which produces significant excitation effect to adjacent unstable rock, and which is one of important reasons to cause the cascading collapse. By the method of wave mechanics calculation equation of peak velocity from unstable rock caused by rest energy through interface between unstable rocks was deduced and established. Based on the rule of Sweden and Canmet, authors proposed damage criteria of unstable rock under excitation effect. According to damage mechanics, authors set up estimation method of microcrack being likely activated to rest unstable rock under excitation effect. Example analysis shows that problem considering excitation damage is an important way of promoting the scientific and transient security analysis of unstable rock. Research results have a positive significance for science reveals of unstable rock failure mechanism.
