Abstract The Omics Discovery Index is an open source platform that can be used to access, discover and disseminate omics datasets. OmicsDI integrates proteomics, genomics, metabolomics, models and transcriptomics datasets. Using an efficient indexing system, OmicsDI integrates different biological entities including genes, transcripts, proteins, metabolites and the corresponding publications from PubMed. In addition, it implements a group of pipelines to estimate the impact of each dataset by tracing the number of citations, reanalysis and biological entities reported by each dataset. Here, we present the OmicsDI REST interface (www.omicsdi.org/ws/) to enable programmatic access to any dataset in OmicsDI or all the datasets for a specific provider (database). Clients can perform queries on the API using different metadata information such as sample details (species, tissues, etc), instrumentation (mass spectrometer, sequencer), keywords and other provided annotations. In addition, we present two different libraries in R and Python to facilitate the development of tools that can programmatically interact with the OmicsDI REST interface.

With the fast deployment of cloud computing, MapReduce architectures are becoming the major technologies for mobile cloud computing. The concept of MapReduce was first introduced as a novel programming model and implementation for a large set of computing devices. In this research, we propose a novel concept of REST-MapReduce, enabling users to use only the REST interface without using the MapReduce architecture. This approach provides a higher level of abstraction by integration of the two types of access interface, REST API and MapReduce. The motivation of this research stems from the slower response time for accessing simple RDBMS on Hadoop than direct access to RDMBS. This is because there is overhead to job scheduling, initiating, starting, tracking, and management during MapReduce-based parallel execution. Therefore, we provide a good performance for REST Open API service and for MapReduce, respectively. This is very useful for constructing REST Open API services on Hadoop hosting services, for example, Amazon AWS (Macdonald, 2005) or IBM Smart Cloud. For evaluating performance of our REST-MapReduce framework, we conducted experiments with Jersey REST web server and Hadoop. Experimental result shows that our approach outperforms conventional approaches.

Aiming at the problem of tight coupling and interface complexity of WebService based on XML-RPC interactive model, this paper proposed the REST-based WebService, and gave out the design method of each part, including the design of restful Resource-Oriented Architecture, design of request and response interactive model and design of service discovery architecture based on semantic search. This research result was applied into an actual project, which indicated this WebService is loose coupling, interface uniform, portability, reliability and has good web-scale scalability features. Finally, an example is presented to illustrate this WebService architecture.

We present a networked system with interchangeable constraints for studying skillful human movements via haptic (PHANToM-based) displays. The unified interface easily links different physical models with 2D and 3D static spatial constraints and graphical content related to the models. We analyzed motions based on data recorded by a history unit with a frequency of 100Hz. Theoretical and experimental kinematic profiles compared for several cases of basic reaching rest-to-rest tasks included curve-constrained motions with different curvatures, flexible object control, and cooperative two-arm movements. Experimental patterns exhibit the best agreement with optimal control models based on jerk and force-change minimization criteria.

At present, most of infant application products just rest on the level of beautiful interface while the usability of application interface is less noticed. The infant here and mentioned in the full text particularly refer to infant of 15-36 months old. From the point of view of visual perception characteristics, the paper mainly carries out an analysis of the usability design of application interface of infants. For the start, the paper briefly states the connection between the usability of infants’ application interface and the visual perception characteristics, then gives a detailed analysis of the influence of the visual perception characteristics in the usability design of infants’ interface, and preliminarily sums up the direction of infants’ application interface usability design.

Cloud computing exposes software as a service, platform as a resource, and infrastructure as a service. The way of Web services work naturally makes it the system interface for software communication of a cloud computing architecture. And REST(REpresentational Status Transfer) philosophy is a better way to construct Web services since it is fundamental to the Web and can make full use of the features of the Web. We implement RESTful APIs for learning resource cloud, and the benefits of an Ajax(Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) Web service client to the REST APIs are discussed.

Este trabalho apresenta um framework de software para construção de interfaces para aplicações REST, dirigido por modelos. Este framework permite a construção destas interfaces exigindo um mínimo de programação pelo projetista. Os modelos nos quais se baseia, e a interface gerada utilizam padrões do W3C. Uma avaliação qualitativa indica que há um aumento efetivo de produtividade e qualidade no projeto de interfaces através do ambiente, quando comparado com abordagens tradicionais para projeto e implementação de interfaces.
This work presentes a Model-driven framework for the design of interfaces for REST applications. The framework allows building interfaces with minimal programming, The models used, as well as the generated interfaces are represented using W3C standards. A qualitative evaluation indicates that there are gains in both productivity and quality of the generated interfaces, when compared with traditional approaches.

Over the past decade, the IT business have shown tremendous growth specially in the area of services for both internal and external customers. As the development of these services continuous to increases so does the need to be able to present documentations of the services in an effective and useable way. TeliaSonera is one of the companies that have problems reaching its customers with information about the various services they offer, and is currently wanting to develop a system to provide to its customers to elevate this growing problem. The current system that is deployed by TeliaSonera has major issues when it comes to finding the right record or documentation which leads to that customer end up spending more time than intended and this in turn ends in customer dissatisfaction and the use of offered services decreases as well. This project aims to firstly create a requirement specification for the system that TeliaSonera needs to effectively resolve the issues they have and secondly use the requirement specification to develop a prototype for the presentation of the various services offered. The waterfall method was used when creating the requirement specification, which involved a group consisting of one system administrator and four users. By gathering the input from the group a requirement specification was created. The requirement specification was then used to develop the prototype, which included a REST API and a user interface. The usability tests that were performed comparing the current system with the prototype indicates that the prototype is providing a platform to users that enables them to decrease the time spent on finding the request information. Furthermore the usability tests indicates that by providing a very detailed and specific website almost all employees will be able to use the system. Another benefit that the usability tests showed was that users learned to use the system very effectively after the initial run and that the users retained the knowledge over time.
Under de senaste årtiondet har IT-världen vuxit explosionsartat och i dagens läge utvecklas diverse tjänster, ämnade för både intern användning och extern användning för kunder. Då utvecklandet av dessa tjänster sker kontinuerligt ökar behovet av att kunna presentera dokumentationerna av tjänsterna på ett bra sätt. TeliaSonera är ett av företagen som har problem med att presentera dokumentationerna då de idag inte har hittat ett effektivt sätt att göra de på. I nuvarande systemet som TeliaSonera har är tidsåtgången för att hitta en dokumentation för hög, vilket leder till missnöje bland de anställda, då de måste spendera dyrbar tid att leta efter efterfrågad dokumentation. Därmed syftar projektet till att minska tidsåtgången och missnöjdheten bland de anställda. Genom att ta fram en kravspecifikation enligt vattenfallsmetoden tillsammans med en grupp som bestod av en administratör och fyra anställda konstruerades en kravspecifikation. Kravspecifikationen lade grunden för påbyggnaden av en prototyp, som innehöll ett REST API och ett användargränssnitt. Därefter genomfördes användbarhetstester och sedan jämfördes det nuvarande systemet med prototypen som skapades. Jämförelsen resulterade med att de anställda hittade dokumentationerna av tjänsterna snabbare på prototypen, men jämförelsen skulle kunna vara missledande eftersom att prototypen endast innehöll 10 tjänster. Detta innebär i sin tur att det skulle kunna ta längre tid och fler klick för en anställd att hitta efterfrågad dokumentation på prototypen om samtliga tjänster lades till i prototypen. Användbarhetstestet visade även att systemet måste vara väldigt specificerat och detaljerat för att fler anställda ska kunna förstå sig på systemet, exempelvis länkarna i navigeringsmenyn. Det som även visades under användbarhetstestet var att testpersonerna lärde sig att använda systemet mycket effektivare redan efter första gången och även veckan därpå då de fick ett liknande test.

Об’єктом розробки виступає система обчислень та візуалізації метрик. Мета роботи полягає у дослідженні поняття метрик та їх можливість впровадження у системи для покращення та оптимізації робочих процесів на різноманітних проектах. Наукова новизна одержаного результату полягає реалізації системи, функціонал якої спрямовано на розрахунок числових критеріїв та отримання актуальної інформації стосовно стану процесів. Методами дослідження є технології створення відкритого програмного забезпечення, поняття метрик та поточний стан їх впровадженності у системах, методи розповсюдження API-документації. Одержані результати можуть бути використані у проектах розробки програмного забезпечення для постійного моніторингу стану системи. Значущість роботи полягає у розгляді проблеми - відсутність розповсюдженої системи для обчислення метрик для невеликих та нових проектів.
The object of development is a system of calculations and visualization of metrics. The purpose of the work is to study the concept of metrics and their possibility of implementation in systems to improve and optimize workflows on various projects. The scientific novelty of the obtained result is the implementation of a system whose functionality is aimed at calculating numerical criteria and obtaining relevant information about the state of processes. Research methods are technologies for creating open source software, the concept of metrics and the current state of their implementation in systems, methods of distribution of API-documentation. The obtained results can be used in software development projects for continuous monitoring of the system. The significance of the work lies in the consideration of the problem - the lack of a common system for calculating metrics for small and new projects.

The aim of this theses is a creation of a project and goal managing system with effective user interface. The modern goal setting is the base of defined user interface. A substantial proportion of the theses deals with gamification, which encourages the users to use the system and motivates them to reach the predefined goals and fulfil the projects. Theoretical knowledge of goals settings and project managing serves as a base for the whole concept of the system and for a creation of the actual gamification engine. A web-based application utilizing implemented components was created with the system. An essential part of the theses is a formulation of hypotheses and their verification by testing.

In today’s computer environments the systems are getting bigger and more complex for each day that passes by. The motivating factor for this is that the customer wants to achieve more and more with their computer systems than before. The only way to really solve this task is to use even more APIs (Application program interfaces) in their systems.     When using more APIs in a system, there is a chance that the specific system provides the same type of API twice, which of course, is a waste of storage and resources. In addition, the more APIs a system contains, the bigger the risk is for mismanagement of these APIs. In the worst case, this can result in security breaches or data leaks.  This thesis investigates specific APIs provided for a customer of Sigma IT Consulting. The aim is to evaluate and organize the APIs according to their usability criteria. The main focus of the evaluation is the available documentation which will be evaluated by a questionnaire survey distributed to senior software developers at Sigma IT Consulting in Växjö. Conclusions will then be drawn depending on the result from the survey, and we can then see if Azure API management (which is a service to make a system more user – friendly) is accurate in its way of organizing with the API usability as the main focus! Unfortunately, Azure API management did not have any possibility what so ever to customize the API placement in a system, and the only way the APIs are organized is in alphabetical order. Therefore, a prototype with even more sorting functionality than Azure API management will also be presented in this thesis.

Кваліфікаційна робота включає пояснювальну записку (74 стор., 47 рис.). У бакалаврському проєкті реалізовано систему для моніторингу та прогнозування погодних умов у реальному часі. Система складається із пристрою для зчитування та передачі через bluetooth даних про погоду, серверної частини для обробки та передачі даних із погодних сервісів у мережі Internet, а також мобільного додатку для прийому, обробки та відображення інформації, отриманої із пристрою та сервера. Метою проєкту є створення пристрою, який міг би передавати дані про погодні умови безпосередньо у смартфон, а також мобільного додатку із зручним інтерфейсом, який міг би приймати, обробляти та відображати ці дані. У цьому проєкті було розроблено такі компоненти: – апаратний засіб на основі платформи Arduino, датчика та bluetooth-передавача; – сервер, створений мовою програмування Python на базі мікрофреймворку Flask та із використанням REST-архітектури; – мобільний додаток, створений мовою програмування Java для пристроїв з операційною системою Android; Результатом розробки є апаратний та програмний продукти, які дозволяють зручно відстежувати поточні погодні умови, а також формують прогноз для конкретної місцевості. Додаток має простий та зрозумілий інтерфейс, мінімальні системні вимоги (пристрій із операційною системою Android версії 4.4 чи вище, bluetooth-модуль та доступ до мережі Internet). Режим моніторингу може працювати без доступу до мережі Internet.
The bachelor's project implements a system for monitoring and forecasting weather conditions in real time. The system consists of a device for reading and transmitting weather data via bluetooth, a server part for processing and transmitting data from weather services on the Internet, and a mobile application for receiving, processing and displaying information received from the device and server. The aim of the project is to create a device that could transmit weather data directly to a smartphone and a mobile application with a user-friendly interface that could receive, process and display this data. The following components were developed in this project: − device based on Arduino platform, sensor and bluetooth transmitter; − a server which was created in the Python programming language, based on the Flask microframework and using the REST architecture; − mobile application created in the Java programming language for devices with the Android operating system; The result of the development is hardware and software products that allow conveniently track current weather conditions and form a forecast for a specific area. The application has a simple and clear interface, minimum system requirements (device with Android operating system version 4.4 or higher, bluetooth module and Internet access). The monitoring mode can work without Internet access.

The increase in connectivity and use of “smart” devices offers companies new possibilities to improve their efficiency by using digitalization. For example, booking of meeting rooms have gone from using a paper calendar to electronic booking. To enable both digital remote booking, as well as being able to book a room directly (as with a paper calendar) this project has developed a room manager system. The room manager is a device that provides a quick and intuitive way for employees to handle conference room booking. The project was started on behalf of the company ÅF, who would like to optimize their use of conference rooms.  The result was a fully functional touchscreen device built using a Raspberry Pi. The room manager integrates successfully with the existing calendar system used at ÅF and meets all the requirements set by ÅF. The device will be used to determine if a room manager system is worth investing in and may be used as a foundation for continued development.

Every second, major companies such as Google, Apple, Amazon and Microsoft are col- lecting a great amount of data from users. Photos, voice and texts etc. are stored in the companies massive server parks. With this amount of data, along with technical benefits such as computing power and exceeding algorithms, the companies can train their ma- chine learning models to levels which is hard for a local computing landscape to reach up to.Nowadays, the companies allow developers to use their services and this paper proclaims the benefits of using these. The aim for this thesis is to show how cloud based face recognition and speech recognition can be utilized to create a virtual assistant in Magic Mirror. This new concept opens new possibilities for human-computer interaction.The use case for the assistant was to aid visitors who comes into an office for an appointment with an employee. The prototype of the assistant showed 94% accuracy when identifying faces and fulfilled the task well when the employee name was internationally known, while having difficulties with others, e.g. Swedish names.

Chapter 6 examines the long-term effects of international soft law on policy in the United States since 2008. The extent and type of post-crisis US cooperation with foreign jurisdictions have varied considerably with far-reaching ramifications for international financial markets. Focusing on the international interaction of reforms in banking and derivatives, the chapter uses the book’s approach to understand US regulation in the wake of the Great Recession. The authors attribute seemingly random variation in the US relationship to foreign regulation and markets to differences in pre-crisis international soft law. Here, the existence (or absence) of robust soft law and standard-creating institutions determines the resources available to policy entrepreneurs as well as their orientation and attitudes toward international cooperation. Soft law plays a central role in the evolution of US regulatory reform and its interface with the rest of the world.

With the motivation to develop computational and algorithmic levels of understanding how the mind comes into being, this chapter considers computer science, artificial intelligence, and cognitive systems perspectives. Questions are addressed, such as what ‘intelligence’ may actually be and how, and when an artificial system may be considered to be intelligent and to have a mind on its own. May it even be alive? Out of these considerations, the chapter derives three fundamental problems for cognitive systems: the symbol grounding problem, the frame problem, and the binding problem. We show that symbol-processing artificial systems cannot solve these problems satisfactorily. Neural networks and embodied systems offer alternatives. Moreover, biological observations and studies with embodied robotic systems imply that behavioral capabilities can foster and facilitate the development of suitably abstracted, symbolic structures. We finally consider Alan Turing’s question “Can machines think?” and emphasize that such machines must at least solve the three considered fundamental cognitive systems problems. The rest of the book addresses how the human brain, equipped with a suitably-structured body and body–brain interface, manages to solve these problems, and thus manages to develop a mind.

This chapter examines the place of morphology in the LFG architecture. The chapter assumes a modular view of the morphological component, in line with the overall modular architecture of LFG: the morphological component has its own internal structure and obeys universal and language particular constraints on word formation that need not be shared by other levels of structure. According to this model, the morphological component associates a word form with a set of features representing the morphological structure and grammatical contribution of the word; these features are interpreted at the interface of morphology with the rest of the grammar, producing the lexical entry for the word form. This view fits well with a realizational theory of morphology; the proposals are compatible not only with explicitly paradigm-based models, but with any morphological theory which relates words to feature sets encoding their grammatical properties and structure, including finite state theories of morphology.

Randomization is an inherent part of Randomized Clinical Trials (RCTs), typically requiring the split of participants in intervention and control groups. We present a web service supporting randomized patient distribution, developed in the context of the MyPal project RCT. The randomization process is based on a block permutation approach to mitigate the risk of various kind of biases. The presented service can be used via its web user interface to produce randomized lists of patients distributed in the various study groups, with a variant block size. Alternatively, the presented service can be integrated as part of wider IT systems supporting clinical trials via a REST interface following a micro-service architectural pattern.

Recent years have witnessed the rapid progress in handheld devices. This has resulted in a growing number of mobile phones or PDAs that have a built-in camera to record still pictures or live videos. Encouraged by the success of second generation cellular wireless networks, researchers are now pushing the 3G standard to support a seamless integration of multimedia data services. One of the main products is WCDMA (Holma & Toskala, 2001), short for wideband code division multiple access. WCDMA networks have 80 million subscribers in 46 countries at the time of this writing. WCDMA can be viewed as a successor of the 2G CDMA system. In fact, many WCDMA technologies can be traced back to the 2G CDMA system. However, WCDMA air interface is specifically designed with envision to support real time multimedia services. To name some highlights, WCDMA: • Supports both packet-switched and circuitswitched data services. Mobile best-effort data services, such as Web surfing and file downloads, are available through packet service. • Has more bandwidth allocated for downlink and uplink than the 2G systems. It uses a 5 MHz wide radio signal and a chip rate of 3.84 mcps, which is about three times higher than CDMA2000. • Support a downlink data rate of 384 kbps for wide area coverage and up to 2 Mbps for hot-spot areas, which is sufficient for most existing packet-data applications. WCDMA Release 5 (Erricson, 2004) adopts HSDPA (High-speed downlink packet access), which increases peak data rates to 14 Mbps in the downlink. To achieve high data rate, WCDMA uses several new radio interface technologies, including (1) shared channel transmission, (2) higher-order modulation, (3) fast link adaptation, (4) fast scheduling, and (5) hybrid automatic-repeat-request (HARQ). These technologies have been successfully used in the downlink HSDPA, and will be used in upcoming improved uplink radio interface in the future. The rest of this article will explain the key components of the radio interface in WCDMA.

The enactment of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) is a powerful tool that in theory affords tribes greater opportunity to bring their ancestors home to rest. Implementation is a different issue. The bulk of the NAGPRA workload undertaken by the Tribe is completed by the THPO bioarchaeologist who works within the collections section. The bioarchaeologist provides an interface between individual institutions and the THPO by protecting the broader Tribal community from having to deal directly with an issue not culturally appropriate for discussion. Because of the subject matter, the bioarchaeologist must prepare information sufficient for the NAGPRA Committee while staying within culturally appropriate parameters to encourage input from the designated spiritual advisors within the Tribal community.

These stakeholders involve among others, the client who has the initial need, and establishes the project requirements and boundaries; the sales teams involved in developing the initial solution and sealing the contract with the client; the project management practitioners responsible for executing the solution as per the contractual requirements; different organizational units, such as engineering, finance, supply chain, health, and safety; and other stakeholders, such as sub-suppliers, legal authorities, consultants, and funding agencies. These stakeholders have different perspectives and objectives that make project management a complex process. In this chapter the challenges, benefits, and opportunities of inter-organizational integration, transition, and collaboration within and between firms in large complex projects are explored. The scope of this chapter is on the interface between the sales front-end phase and the project initiation phase because it is in the sales front-end, where the strategic and operational direction for the rest of the project is set and agreed. A better understanding of this interface may provide opportunities for improvement in project management success.

To this day, railway actors obtain information by actively hunting for relevant data in various places. Despite the availability of a variety of travel-related data sources, accurate delivery of relevant, timely information to these railway actors is still inadequate. In this chapter, we present a solution in the form of a scalable software framework that can interface with almost any type of (open) data. The framework aggregates a variety of data sources to create tailor-made knowledge, personalised to the dynamic profiles of railway users. Core functionality, including predefined non-functional support, such as load balancing strategies, is implemented in the generic base layer, on top of which a use case specific layer – that can cope with the specifics of the railway environment – is built. Data entering the framework is intelligently processed and the results are made available to railway vehicles and personal mobile devices through REST endpoints.

Abstract Inertial force feedback was implemented for a locomotion interface, the Treadport. The purpose was to make locomotion on the Treadport more like locomotion on the ground. The feedback force was applied to the user by a mechanical tether. Psychophysical experiments were performed to determine whether users preferred inertial force feedback to other types of control for the case of accelerating from rest. The results showed that all eleven subjects preferred inertial force feedback when compared to a spring force or no force.

In this bibliometric study, we analyze the six battery research subfields identified in the BATTERY 2030+ roadmap: Battery Interface Genome, Materials Acceleration Platform, Recyclability, Smart functionalities: Self-healing, Smart functionalities: Sensing, and Manufacturability. In addition, we analyze the entire research field related to BATTERY 2030+ as a whole, using two operationalizations. We (a) evaluate the European standing in the subfields/the BATTERY 2030+ field in comparison to the rest of the world, and (b) identify strongholds of the subfields/the BATTERY 2030+ field across Europe. For each subfield and the field as a whole, we used seed articles, i.e. articles listed in the BATTERY 2030+ roadmap or cited by such articles, in order to generate additional, similar articles located in an algorithmically obtained classification system. The output of the analysis is publication volumes, field normalized citation impact values with comparisons between country/country aggregates and between organizations, co-publishing networks between countries and organizations, and keyword co-occurrence networks. For the results related to (a), the performance of EU & associated (countries) is similar to China and the aggregate Japan-South Korea-Singapore and well below North America regarding citation impact and with respect to the field as a whole. Exceptions are, however, the subfields Battery Interface Genome and Recyclability. For the results related to (b), there is a large variability in the EU & associated organizations regarding volume in the different subfields. For citation impact, examples of high-performing EU & associated organizations are ETH Zurich and Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science.

There are significant problems during construction to establish an adequate foundation for fills and/or subgrade for pavements when the natural ground has low-bearing soils. Geosynthetics such as geogrids, geotextiles, and/or geocells could provide a less time-consuming, costly alternative for establishing an adequate foundation for the fill and/or subgrade. There is extensive evidence in the literature and on DOTs practices about the suitability of using geotextiles in pavements as separators. Previous studies have also shown that the use of geogrids in flexible pavements as a reinforcing mechanism could decrease the thickness of the base layer and/or increase the life of the pavement. In this study, analyses of selected pavement designs using Pavement ME—while considering geogrid-enhanced base or subgrade resilient modulus values—showed that geogrid-reinforcement, when placed at the interface between subgrade and base, did not produce significant benefits and only a modest increase in pavement life was predicted. In addition, parametric finite element analyses were carried out to investigate the potential benefits of placing a geogrid at the base of a fill over a localized weak foundation zone. The analyses showed that the use of geogrids is beneficial only when: (a) the stiffness of the weak foundation soil is about an order of magnitude smaller than the rest of the foundation soil; and (b) the horizontal extent of the weak foundation soil is at least 30% of the base of the embankment foundation. The largest decrease in differential settlements at the surface of the fill, resulting from geogrid-reinforcement, was less than 20% and, therefore, it is unlikely that the sole use of geogrids would be sufficient to mitigate differential settlements. Based on previous studies, a geocell mattress, which is a three-dimensional geosynthetic filled with different types of materials, could act as a stiff platform at the base of an embankment and bridge over weak zones in the foundation. However, given the limited experience in Indiana on the use of geocells, further research is required to demonstrate that geocells can be effectively used in place of other reinforcement methods.
