The most used approaches for distributed application integration are based on the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Representational State Transfer (REST) architectural styles. Each is more adequate to a different class of applications and exhibits advantages and disadvantages. This paper not only shows that they are dual architectural styles, SOA oriented towards behavior (services) and REST towards state (structured resources), but also contends that it is possible to combine them to maximize the advantages and to minimize the disadvantages. A new architectural style, Structural Services, is proposed and described. Unlike REST, resources are not constrained to offer a fixed set of operations and, unlike SOA, services are allowed to have structure. To minimize resource coupling, this style uses structural interoperability based on the concepts of structural compliance and conformance, instead of schema sharing (as in SOA) or standardized and previously agreed upon media types (as in REST).

Purpose This paper aims to use a multi-level approach to examine the effects of emotional intelligence (EI) components on conflict management styles of Chinese managers when the respondents were in conflicts with their subordinates, peers or superiors. Design/methodology/approach The primary research was conducted in Dalian, China, via a personal survey resulting in 885 usable observations for analysis. EI was measured using the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS; Wong and Law, 2002), which is made up of 16 questions measuring four dimensions. The conflict management component was measured via Rahim’s (1983) five conflict management styles, which are avoidance, dominating, collaboration, compromise and integration. Findings The data analyses suggested that managers at different levels possess different EI and adopt different conflict management styles when dealing with their subordinates, peers and superiors. Specifically, when subordinates were involved in a conflict, junior managers and female managers were more likely to use the dominating style, while when peers were involved in a conflict, male managers were more likely to use the dominating style. When peers were involved in a conflict, managers working in public sectors were more likely to adopt the integrating, avoiding, obliging and compromising style. The Chinese managers were found to regulate their emotions and use of their emotions effectively in conflict with their peers and supervisors and thus they tended to adopt the avoiding, integrating and obliging style. Self-emotions appraisal and others emotions appraisal were significant to the adoption of the obliging style to handle conflict with their peers and supervisors. Use of emotions effectively was significant for the Chinese managers adopting the compromising style in conflicts with their peers, superiors and subordinates. Research limitations/implications The authors could only reach employees working and living in one city, which affects the generalizability of the paper. Practical implications Training should be provided to managers at different levels on the awareness of the impact of EI on conflict management at workplace. Originality/value There is little existing research on how employees across different levels within organisations in China moderate their EI according to the party they are interacting with. The objective of this paper is to stimulate further debate on the matter, thereby improving the understanding of EI moderation.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine operational-level implementation issues regarding mergers and acquisitions (M&As) in general, and resource combination and integration at the functional marketing level in particular. Design/methodology/approach – The paper introduces four factors (i.e. collaboration, interaction, marketing synergy, and the realignment of marketing resources) that support successful M&A marketing integration and enhance overall M&A performance. Findings – The results indicate that marketing synergy and the realignment of marketing resources contribute significantly to the extent of integration. At the same time, the authors find a significant but negative relationship between the interaction dimension and the speed of integration. Originality/value – The cultural integration of firms that feature different management styles and organizational cultures has been recognized as a particularly challenging aspect of cross-border M&As. This study explains factors that contribute to effective marketing integration in M&As.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to compare and integrate leader-member exchange (LMX) and leader identification (LID) as concurrently functioning mediators between three leadership styles (individual-focused transformational, contingent reward, and benevolent paternalistic) and two citizenship behaviors (helping and taking charge). Design/methodology/approach Data included 395 stable, independent leader-follower dyads from numerous Chinese organizations. Partial least squares structural equation modeling and relative weight analysis were used in data analyses. Findings In established, steady-state leader-member alliances, LMX was the dominant explanation between various leadership styles and helping; whereas LID explained leadership effects on taking charge. Three-stage indirect effects of leadership-LMX-LID-taking charge were found. Also, LMX and LID related to the three focal leadership styles in distinct ways. Research limitations/implications Limitations include cross-sectional data. Strengths include a large, multi-source field sample. Implications include that LMX and LID provide different prosocial motivations; LMX indirectly engenders stronger other-orientation through LID; and the nature of indirect leadership effects via LID is more sensitive to the nature of the focal leadership styles. LMX and LID together provide a package of prosocial motivations. Practical implications Leaders interested in increasing employees’ helping vs taking charge behaviors can be more effective by understanding the different motivational potentials of LMX vs LID. Leaders also need to choose appropriate behavioral styles when they activate LMX vis-à-vis LID. Originality/value This study integrates multiple leadership theories to provide a nuanced account of how social exchange and self-concept explain leadership at the interpersonal level when leadership styles, LMX, and LID are stable.

The technology of integration of learning methods, forms and means of information and communication technologies is described with due regards for psychological and pedagogical characteristics of student groups. The results of theoretical and experimental research conducted on the basis of two Ukrainian universities with the participation of 341 students in the "Chemistry" training area and 18 lecturers of basic chemical disciplines are highlighted. Both students and lecturers were polled in a specially designed questionnaire to show their attitude to the use of various electronic learning resources in learning and teaching basic chemical disciplines. Students’ preferences in learning styles were estimated on the basis of a self-scoring questionnaire for assessing preferences on four complementary dimensions, such as perception (sensitive or intuitive), input (visual or verbal), processing (active or reflective) and understanding (sequential or global) of chemical information. Such an approach is known as the method of Felder-Soloman, and it allows one to calculate Indices of Learning Style which assess qualitatively available preferences of all respondents in each of the four available directions. The developed technology allows lecturers to qualify an optimal set of electronic learning resources for the teaching of individual sections of chemistry, taking into account preferences in their use of students with different learning styles. The technology under development is based on the calculation of average resource scores as assessed by all students in the group, as well as on the expert evaluation of the feasibility of their application in the teaching of basic chemical disciplines. The taxonomy of the optimal selection of electronic learning resources and teaching methods is developed for each type of students’ learning preferences. Advantages and disadvantages of all available variants of the application of the developed technology are discussed for student groups of different compositions. An example of the application is given for studying the discipline "Inorganic Chemistry".

Program comprehension is an important process carried out involving much effort in software maintenance process. A key challenge to developers in program comprehension process is to comprehend a source code. Nowadays, software systems have grown in size ca using increase in developers' tasks to explore and understand millions of lines of source code. Meanwhile, source code is a crucial resource for developers to become familiar with a software system since some system documentations are often unavailable or outdated. However, there are problems exist in understanding source codes, which are tricky with different programming styles, and insufficient comments. Although many researchers have discussed different strategies and techniques to overcome program compr ehension problem, only a shallow knowledge is obtained about the challenges in trying to understand a software system through reading source code. Therefore, this study attempts to overcome the problems in source code comprehension by suggesting a suitable comprehension technique. The proposed technique is based on using ontology approach for knowledge representation. This approach is able to easily explain the concept and relationship of program domain. Thus, the proposed work will create a better way for improving program comprehension.

This article explores merger integration processes in the international context and the way in which the merged companies cope with difficulties emanating from firm-specific and nation-specific differences. The first part of the article discusses the consolidation process in general. Four factors are identified that define the significance of this process: (1) the degree of compatibility of adminis trative practices, management styles, organizational structures or organizational cultures; (2) the kind and degree of post-merger consolidation; (3) the extent to which parties value and want to retain their organizational integrity; (4) the nature of the relationship between the two organizations. In order to create a viable new organization it is argued that leadership, the symbolic reconstruction of a new identity, superordinate goals, and introducing multigroup memberships may reinforce integration. To illustrate the discussion, three case studies of large Dutch-German mergers are examined in the second part of the article. These cases show that leadership, an appropriate organizational structure, and compatibility of merger motives may be important facilitators in the merging process.

Globalization and integration have had a profound impact on the development of business communities in different countries. Thus, cultural conflict is inevitable. However, this should not be a problem for international business and communication. A manager in an intercultural organization must understand the most important motivating factors and effectively use the most powerful ones in different contexts. Creating appropriate incentives for the employee is an essential part of human resource management in enterprises. They are designed to mobilize the enthusiasm and initiative of employees in different ways to complete tasks and achieve the goals of enterprises with high performance and quality. An effective incentive mechanism can increase employees' enthusiasm and stimulate their inner potential to make significant and continuous efforts to achieve the company's goals. The study examines the impact of cultural differences on motivational factors in the context of human resource management. The authors analyzed the features of the American and Japanese human resource management styles. Based on a combination of Hofstede's 5-D model application to these countries and GWS surveys, they concluded that the model effectively identifies business culture characteristics. The largest number of significant factors influencing employee motivation refers to those ones in Hofstede's model that scored the highest points. Therefore, it makes sense to use them as a basis for developing incentives and compilation of compensation packages. This approach gives only approximate estimates. To obtain the most relevant motivation model, the HR department needs to design additional questionnaires to identify the individual characteristics of employees in international companies.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to use Motivating Language Theory (MLT) as a framework in determining leader use of different language styles during times of dynamic change. Design/methodology/approach – This exploratory study of executive members of the Australian Institute of Management examined how MLT may provide a mechanism for analyzing what leaders say in the context of a work setting. Written transcripts of interview data were analyzed to determine leaders’ use of three language styles: meaning-making (locutionary), direction giving (perlocutionary), and empathetic (illocutionary) language. The software program NVivo was used to help aggregate themes emerging from written and interview data into discrete modules to enable more robust and comprehensive analysis of the data. Findings – A range of issues pertinent to the way executives lead and manage their businesses, both in private and not-for-profit organizations, was identified in this study. Direction giving language was most prominent in management activities and leadership that was strategic or people related, followed by meaning-making and empathetic language. The findings suggest that business leaders could develop a repertoire of language approaches in order to achieve organizational outcomes. Research limitations/implications – More research of the language of leadership and its implications for organizational outcomes is warranted. For instance, the strategic integration of motivating language with a compatible set of leader behaviors, organizational objectives, and cultures may reveal mechanisms as yet unknown for achieving outcomes. Research is needed to determine the content and construct of these behaviors, objectives, and cultures. Some questions also remain regarding the appropriateness of using the Motivating Language Scale to examine the types of language used by managers and leaders in the work place. The authors recommend further application of MLT through the Motivating Language Scale in order to help clarify these queries. Originality/value – This paper used MLT as a framework for identifying leader use of different language styles during times of dynamic change. MLT has been used to identify the speech patterns of leaders during verbal communication exchanges with staff and work colleagues, but this study is the first example of the use of MLT when examining leader responses to interviews and in their written responses to survey questions.

Many organizations have adopted or are adopting standards and / or specifications of management systems, such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO / IEC 27001, ISO 22000, and ISO / IEC 20000, out of necessity or to align with trends. Unfortunately, it often results in a set of independent systems, with different goals and objectives. These fragmented systems are often documented in non-uniform styles, are under the control of different people and are audited separately. Integrated management systems (IMS) allow management to establish directions for the effective and efficient fulfillment of the organization's objectives. From managing employee needs to study the performance of competitors, encouraging good practice, and minimizing risk and maximizing resource utilization, the integrated management system approach can help the organization meet its strategic business objectives. Integration must be planned and implemented in a structured way. Many organizations have adopted the standards of the management system due to external pressures, following customer requests to implement a quality standard or external requirements to introduce an environmental system, and / or occupational health and safety [2]. On the other hand, the integration of management systems has beneficial effects on the whole business. Therefore, the first concern must be to understand the needs of the business, correlated with the mission and vision of the organization. In order to respond to the growing interest in an integrated approach to management systems and organizational risk management, the first step an organization must take is to define the common requirements of management systems. The authors aim in this article to present the advantages brought by IMS by their correct implementation within organizations. A review of the current integrated management systems is carried out and the problems that arise during use are exposed. The research includes a guide of good practices from the start to the end of an IMS implementation. Thus, the use of synergies and the integration of resources allows the creation of an efficient and simplified management system. Processes and procedures are viewed from several angles, in order to identify and optimize the IMS implementation process in order to obtain positive results.

During my research, I have studied the relationships of the organizational development and the managerial functions at a specific governmental agency, the police. The police carry out official activities, but also provide a service which essentially assumes two types of contact systems and modes of management. To meet the demands of the citizens and to ensure the effectiveness of the organization, it is necessary to develop the managerial methods applied at the police, on the one hand, and to use certain parts of the organizational development, on the other hand. The police organization has changed significantly after the integration of the Police and Border Guards. The complexity of the structure and the anomalies in the work load, as well as several researches conducted by myself directed my attention to elaborate an organizational development method that can be applied to the current organization, while it improves the operation of the organization. The police’s operation and its organizational structure are determined by the laws, thus changing the structure of the organization is placed within relatively narrow limits. The police managers have the soft parts such as human resource development, skills, and management style at their disposal to develop the organization, but their use is isolated and they are not for a long term. The present article aims to present the set-up model related to the organizational development of the police, elaborated by myself, in terms of the leadership and the management styles, whose long-term use may contribute to the efficiency of the operation.

In the context of the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the planning and dissemination of radio and television must not only learn to quickly and deeply process a large amount of content and extract structured information such as classification, themes, tags, and styles from information sources, but also learn to use audience behaviors to explore and discover potential content, jump out of the editor’s subjective vision, and realize personalized content presentation. On the basis of summarizing and analyzing previous research results, this study expounded the research status and significance of the planning and dissemination mode of radio and television, elaborated on the development background, current status, and future challenges of AI technology, introduced the methods and principles of computer vision, natural language processing, semantic analysis, and video generation, discussed the content production, interview, and editing of radio and television, explored the review, archiving, and system solutions of radio and television, proposed the planning strategies for radio and television assisted by AI technology, analyzed the smart distribution, reception, and feedback of radio and television dissemination, discussed the interactive application and virtual reality of radio and television dissemination, analyzed the dissemination mode of radio and television assisted by AI technology, and finally carried out a case application and its analysis. The study results show that AI technology can be used for smart lyrics, smart writing, smart broadcasting, smart translation, smart recommendation, smart stripping, and smart retrieval, and so on. The AI-assisted radio and television planning gives audiences the right to choose news, provides them with more targeted news content by means of data capture and resource integration, and caters to audiences’ all-round and in-depth information needs through a question-and-answer method, innovating dissemination logic and expression approaches, and enhances the audience’s sense of experience and leadership in obtaining information. The AI-assisted radio and television dissemination mode has the advantages of improving the effectiveness of information communication, promoting the optimization and integration of news resources, and enhancing audience stickiness.

Hence, in the long run, sustainability requires human actions to prevent systemic harm rather than technical solutions that might merely reduce specific harm to the environment. In general, Christianity has dealt only weakly with the ethics of sustainability, and especially with the continuing consumption of global resources by affluent nations. In this paper, I analyze the potential for a new Christian focus on the satisfaction, satiation, and sublimation of material needs and desires. Important queries considered by the analysis include the following: (1) Does technology create metaphysical desire? (2) Is consumption thus inherently addictive? (3) Can religion help control this addiction? Employing dispositive and operative aspects of responsibility theory, I argue that a convivial future requires that we give prime attention to the demands of both distributive justice and environmental sustainability. On this basis, Christianity ought to place greater emphasis on equity issues associated with conservation, resource reduction, and renewable energy. Unfortunately, responsibility theory is inherently responsive rather than proactive, and thus probably more appropriate for avoiding a worse rather than creating a better future. My suggestion is that an eschatological approach to sustainability may offer new hope for the control of rampant materialism. In particular, Christianity must take seriously the need for an eventual re-integration between technology and religion. This re-integration should focus primarily on respecting physical limits, especially in an uncertain world characterized by a rising rich-poor gap. Such respect defines a new kenotic technology, which leads naturally to an allied kenotic consumption. As a result, Christian responsibility suggests that we can best imitate Christ by moderating profligate life-styles. From this perspective, the Church's prime responsibility in an environmental age is to model much better than it currently does the re-conversion of modern material growth to post-modern spiritual growth.

Teacher performance appraisal and development play a crucial part in enhancing staff performance, reward, motivation, and training. A thorough inspection of most public secondary schools in Transmara East Sub-County disclosed a decline in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education schools’ average performance from 2018 to 2022. It is not evident whether Teacher performance appraisal and development (TPAD) implementation has an influence on the performance of learners’ academic achievement. The investigation was steered by Goal Setting theory of motivation. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. A target population of 277 respondents consisted of 1 Teacher Service Commission (TSC) Sub-County director, 34 principals, and 242 TSC teachers from 34 public secondary school teachers in Transmara East Sub-County. The project adopted a stratified random sampling technique on 164 respondents comprising 1 TSC sub-county director, 20 principals, and 143 teachers employed by TSC. Questionnaires were utilised in acquiring data from teachers while the interview schedule was given to the TSC Sub-County director and principals. The checklist was used to collect target and end-term mean scores. Data collected was examined using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Quantitative facts were evaluated by descriptive statistics, frequency, mean and standard deviation as well as a correlation for inferential statistics. The quantitative facts were illustrated using charts and tables. Qualitative data was analysed thematically, which was triangulated with quantitative data. Findings reveal that teachers in their professional knowledge, showed mastery of subject content, used appropriate teaching styles, developed required documentation and learning assessment, and utilised learning and teaching resources sufficiently. Hence, professional knowledge has a significant positive influence on the academic performance of students (P<0.05). The study concludes that professional knowledge has a significant positive influence on students’ academic performance in public secondary schools in Transmara East Sub-County, Kenya. The study recommended that the government should improve training, assessment, and e-resource for ICT integration in the learning and teaching of students.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the mediating and moderating roles of perceived supervisor legitimacy in the association between perceived supervisor motivating styles and subordinate functioning. Specifically, based on Self-Determination Theory (SDT), two supervisory motivating styles were examined: the autonomy-supportive style, characterized by nurturing employees’ inner motivational resources, and the controlling style, in which supervisors pressure their employees to behave in specific manager-directed ways. Legitimacy was defined according to the Relational Model of Authority (RMA). Design/methodology/approach An online survey was administered to a sample of 252 employees. Moderation and mediation analyses were conducted to test the hypotheses. Findings The autonomy-supportive motivating style, but not the controlling style, was linked to employee work-related outcomes (i.e. job satisfaction, commitment, engagement, burnout, and depression) through perceived legitimacy. Legitimacy buffered the negative impact of the controlled orientation on burnout and depression. Originality/value Taken together, the results suggest that legitimacy as a resource may be enhanced by autonomy support and can also minimize the harmful consequences of controlling supervisory behaviors. The theoretical implications of integrating SDT with RMA and the practical implications of these findings are discussed.

The paper highlights the social support of the individual in war conditions as a powerful tool for influencing the individual. It is precisely because there is a war going on in the state that the subject matter is becoming increasingly relevant. Social support as a complex phenomenon concerns the peculiarities of interaction of the individual with the social environment and the nature of influence on it during military operations. The purpose of the study is to investigate the experience of providing social support to individuals in war conditions. In order to achieve the goal and comprehensively present the topic under study, the author relies on a set of interrelated theoretical research methods, including analysis and synthesis, interrelation, modelling, comparison, systematisation, and generalisation of scientific sources. It is stated that the social support of the individual is quite multiform, has an “amortisation” character, and acts as one of the styles of coping strategies of human behaviour. It is generally built around the “self-concept” of the individual, and during the war, it supports the psychological balance of the individual and acts as a resource for survival. It is determined that social support of the individual at the micro-level in war conditions is based on the family and family members who help to overcome trauma, show care and emotional support, and are a significant resource in difficult life circumstances. Social support for friends, neighbours, and colleagues is also important. It is revealed that social support of the individual at the meso-level during the war contributes to the preservation of the integrity of the individual, personal growth, self-actualisation, and integration into new realities of life. The paper describes the features of social support at the macro-level and establishes that in general, it acts as an effective principle of intervention at various stages after trauma, a measurement of mental health, promotes the growth and recovery of the individual, and directs it to self-development. The paper can be useful for psychologists, psychotherapists, social service specialists, teachers, and volunteers who provide psychological assistance to war victims to understand the impact of social support on a person’s mental health

The concept of open innovation, which emerged in the early 2000s, has now been put into practice. Using the example of many firms, it was found out that the skillful use of the methodology of open innovation makes it possible to make a qualitative leap in the development of advanced technologies, while in a short time and with significant resource savings. However, not all firms and not always manage to achieve decisive success in using open innovations for growth and competitiveness. This study shows that the reason for this is the wrong choice of a strategy based on open innovation, as well as the inconsistency of even a correctly chosen strategy of the company's business model. To overcome it, organizational changes are required that will ensure the compatibility of the strategy and a business model acceptable for its implementation. The concept of the relationship between open innovation strategies and their corresponding business models developed in the article makes it possible to make the work of designers of a company's growth and development strategy based on open innovations more rational and productive, and to reduce the likelihood of strategy failure during its implementation. A systematic study of the impact of various open innovation strategies on the development of business models should be continued in terms of specifying such an impact depending on the scope of the company's activities, its size, structure, specifics of business processes, cultural traditions, methods of stimulating staff receptivity to open innovation, leadership styles, communication systems and organizational power structure.The main objective of the open innovation strategy is not to implement deep integration of external sources into the activities of an innovative company, but to provide opportunities for the development and implementation of a business model that ensures close cooperation of the company with its external partners and mutual exchange of knowledge between them.

Manufacturing Grid aims at looking for an innovative next generation inter-organizational collaborative environment. A new architecture named P2P Semantic Manufacturing Grid (P2PSMG) was introduced in this research, which adopts ontology as a common language to help different participants to understand each other, and works in a semantic grid service oriented Napster style. The means of resource integration under this architecture was emphatically studied, by which service providers virtualize their manufacturing resources, encapsulate them into multi-granularity services based on resource ontology, and then submit their semantic descriptions to a third party registry for integration and discovery. A prototype system was developed, by which the feasibility of the means of resource integration introduced in this research is validated.

The growing need for the integrated usage of information from different sources has led to the requirement for information integration. This paper proposes a business-oriented SOA deployment approach, which is derived from a real world project, for the agencies of technology to provide value-added services through integrating the existing information resources. In the approach, information services, which are supposed to be identified in accordance with information category standard, are created and used in a resource-centric way, and the concept of business service is brought out for domain users to ease the usage of information services by modeling business context and IT information coherently. Based on business services, a domain-specific service mash-up language is provided to “program” information integration applications, and the corresponding run-time support is built to parse the applications and execute business services in mediation-style architecture. The system implementation and the application of our approach are also given.

This research aims to identify the role played by informal groups in organizational conflict. The existing literature mainly focuses on the effects of informal groups on the behaviors of employees, such as resisting management and disobeying instructions. However, studies that specifically measure how informal groups affect the behaviors of their members in handling conflicts with supervisors are lacking. This research uses quantitative methodology. Data were collected using the Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory II survey. The participants were 316 workers in various American organizations. The results were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and the two-samples z-test. The results show that employees who belong to informal groups use the dominating style more frequently than do employees who do not belong to informal groups. However, they do not always use dominating styles; occasionally, they tend to use compromising and integrating styles as well. Age has a significant impact on the relationship between informal groups and integrating and dominating styles. There is also a relationship between gender and avoiding style among employees who belong to informal groups. However, there is no preference for a certain conflict style among the three types of informal groups. The results have implications for management science, including human resources and organizational behavior. However, the research applications may be limited for employees in collectivist societies that are different from American (an individualistic society). The relationship between informal groups and conflict style with supervisors has not been studied before. Thus, this research focuses on not only the five conflict styles but also the influence of demographic variables to comprehensively understand this relationship.

Background Web-based mental health interventions offer a novel, accessible, and self-paced approach to care delivery to family carers (ie, relatives and close friends who support a loved one with psychosis). We coproduced COPe-support (Carers fOr People with Psychosis e-support), a psychoeducational intervention delivered via an enriched web-based learning environment with network support from professionals and peers. In addition to the rigorous investigation of the effectiveness of COPe-support on the well-being of carers and mental health outcomes, it is imperative to understand the experiences of using the web-based intervention by carers and its associated web-based implementation and facilitation strategies. Objective This study aims to explore the experiences of carers and perceived acceptability of COPe-support and its different components, how carers found engagement with COPe-support affected their own well-being and caregiving, and the ideas of carers for improving COPe-support and its delivery to inform any future wider implementation. Methods We conducted a qualitative study, individually interviewing 35 carers, following their use of COPe-support for 8 months through a web-based, randomized controlled trial across England. A semistructured guide with open-ended questions was used to explore the experiences of carers and perceived acceptability of the intervention and their ideas to improve the provision. All interviews were conducted remotely through mobile phones or internet communication media, audio recorded and transcribed verbatim. We used a thematic analysis framework to analyze the data. Results Three key themes were identified: remote, flexible, and personalized support; impacts on well-being and outlook on caregiving; and future implementation and integration with existing services. Overall, carers found COPe-support a flexible source of knowledge and support from professionals and peers that they could personalize to suit their own needs and convenience. Participants described gaining self-confidence, hope, and a sense of connectivity with others in a similar situation, which helped ameliorate isolation and perceived stigma. Most importantly, COPe-support promoted self-care among the carers themselves. Participants’ experiences, use, and activity on COPe-support varied greatly and differed among carers of various ages and levels of computer literacy. Conclusions Nearly all participants had a positive experience with COPe-support and supported its wider implementation as a beneficial adjunctive support resource for carers in the future. Any future scale-up of such an intervention needs to consider feedback from carers and suggestions for further improvement. These included having more graphics and audiovisual content materials, improving the navigation, and building in more interactional and customization options to suit various user styles, such as emoji reactions, live web-based chat, opting in and out of updates, and choosing the frequency of reminders. To ensure successful implementation, we should also consider factors pertinent to reaching more carers and integrating the web-based resources with other conventional services. Frequently, college students have issues to learn academic contents included in the subjects of their courses. Such low quality learning is reflected in failures and academic dropout, therefore being matters of concern for teachers and governments. Learning processes in college depend, in part, on the coincidence between teaching methods and students’ learning styles. They are defined as the preference of students when they have to deal with information, particularly the way to perceive it and process it. Learning styles can be trained by the repeated use of specific learning strategies. In such cases, when learning styles coincide with the learning context in order to facilitate the acquisition of new knowledge and its integration with previous information, academic success can be achieved more naturally. To get this match it is required from teachers to adapt their styles and strategies to their students’ learning preferences. Other alternative rests on the design of actions to train students in the use of the appropriate learning styles able to enhance learning. Focused on the second option, the present study aims at: 1) the description of the influence of different learning strategies on each learning style, and 2) the analysis of the way each style explains students’ academic achievement. A transversal, non-experimental, explicative design was employed. 763 college students from Buenos Aires with ages ranging from 17 to 36 years were included in the sample. Locally adapted versions of the Honey-Alonso Questionnaire of Learning Styles -CHAEA as its Spanish acronym-, and Learning and Study Strategies Inventory –LASSI- were used for data gathering. Results showed that the Accommodating style is explained positively and significantly by the Collaborative Learning, Resources for Learning and Information 2.0 Management Competence strategies. Besides, it is observed that the strategies Collaborative Learning, Resources for Learning and Motivation explain to the Assimilating style in a significant and positive way. The Pragmatist and Converging styles are explained significantly but negatively by the Motivation and Information 2.0 Management Competence strategies respectively. Finally, Converging style explained Academic Achievement in a significant and negative way. These findings led to the possibility to plan specific actions to train students' learning styles. Furthermore, this information could be useful for different actors in higher education, such as -institutions, teachers, educational psychologists, students, etc., in order to design academic activities which require the repeated use of the specific learning strategies which each student needs to train, aiming at the improvement of particular learning styles able to facilitate learning. At this point, it seems important to discourage the use of Converging style given the negative effect it would have on the students’ performance. In this sense, the extent of responsibility on managers/leaders, is really important. Managers/leaders in organizations can adopt a leadership style and behave as “Task (Work) Oriented” or “Employee (Relationship) Oriented”. The style that is adopted by the leader, has a considerable effect on their relationship with employees.Leader-member Exchange Theory (LMX) is the leading theory that scrutinizes endogeneity and exogeneity. LMX, codes human resources as inner-group and outer-group in the context of leader-member exchange. The leadership styles that are adopted by the managers, have great impact on the exchange among leaders and subordinates. Thus, the subordinates perceive their situation either inner-group members or outer-group members.The purpose of this study, is to find out the effect of the leadership style that is adopted by the managers on Leader-Member Exchange (LMX). In this context, a survey method is applied to the tourism agencies that are active in Yalova, Turkey. The survey consists Fiedler’s LPC (least preferred co-worker) measure, Leader-member Exchange measure and demographical questions. According to the results, there is no statistically significant effect of Task Oriented leadership style on Self Oriented dimension of LMX. On the other hand, it has been found that there is statistically significant effect of Relationship Oriented Leadership Style on Self Oriented dimension of LMX.

The focus of this paper is the utility and application of a Human System Interface (HSI) Style Guide. There are a number of reasons for the routine adaptation of a tool such as a style guide. First, consistent application of human factors guidelines, methods and principles is ensured in the design of Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs). Secondly, a style guide is a mechanism for integrating human factors early into the development of any system or process. A HSI style guide is also an explicit resource for designers responsible for user interface, standards and principles. Moreover, serving as a reference manual, a style guide positively impacts user interface design as well as implementation decisions and accompanying rationale. Finally, through the descriptive content and structure, the style guide communicates human factors processes thus allowing for full integration with all associated disciplines in design processes. Consequently, all those involved (designers, implementers, managers and reviewers or evaluators) in the GUI design and development process benefit from style guide application.

The world's agrifood systems have been transformed by a process of globalization in which ever-closer functional integration of the world's economies has occurred, supported by the Internet, the rise of transnational corporations, and the removal of many barriers to trade and investment. This review outlines the key characteristics of globalization and then details the changes occurring to agriculture and the broader agrifood system. It addresses the worldwide spread of productivist, specialized, industrial-style farming methods and their consequences, both positive and negative. The review focuses on three key issues: the world's capability to produce enough food to feed humankind; the important roles played in shaping globalization by transnational corporations, global finance, and government policies; and the emerging challenges to globalization. The first of these addresses the current debate regarding whether it is possible to maintain ecological diversity while producing sufficient food to feed the world. The other issue acknowledges that outcomes of global processes are spatially uneven and strongly contested by forms of agriculture antithetical to the homogenized, capitalist, neoliberal model associated with globalization.

A resource-based approach to stress management is being actively developed when considering coping behavior as a dynamic process within the transactional and integrative approaches to stress formation. There are various points of view regarding the types, criteria for evaluating efficiency, characteristics, options for defining the concept of "resource", the analysis of which allows to consider this construct as all those mental factors, depending on which problems of adaptation to stressful situation are solved easier or vice versa, more difficult. The mastery of a tense situation is mainly due to the insufficient quantity and quality of resources, which are sufficiently constant and constitute a system in which everyone has a place. An important resource of protective-overcoming behavior mastery of a personality is the intellectual sphere. Intellectual resource is considered as a set of productive and stylistic properties of intelligence. In the context of professional activity and taking into account its specificity, intellectual abilities and cognitive styles are in some way interconnected, forming an intellectual resource of the individual. The concept of "intellectual resource" is operationalized in terms of the correlation of stylistic and productive properties of intelligence, namely through general criteria of cognitive styles interdependence / interdependence, impulsiveness / reflexivity, rigidity / inflexibility of cognitive control (stylistic and psychometric properties of the development of psychic properties of intelligence) intelligence). It is shown that students with high intellectual resources are more likely to use active coping strategies and students with low intellectual protection mechanisms.

By integrating the life history theory of attachment with resource control theory, the current study examines the hypothesis that insecure attachment styles reorganized in middle childhood are alternative adaptive strategies used to prepare for upcoming competition with the peer group. A sample of 654 children in the second through seventh grades in Shanghai, China, participated in this study. The children reported attachment relationships with their mother and the use of resource control strategies in the peer group. Boys had higher avoidant attachment scores than girls, whereas girls had higher ambivalent attachment scores than boys. Moreover, avoidant attachment was positively associated with the use of coercive strategies to control resources. Ambivalent attachment was associated with the use of both coercive and prosocial strategies to control resources. A number of other gender and developmental differences were also observed. The implications for the adaptiveness of insecure attachment in middle childhood are discussed.

The Internet offers a wide array of resources for social studies teachers. Digital interactives, in particular, offer promise. They combine images, sounds, videos, and animation and are organized around specific themes or historical subjects. Verizon’s Thinkfinity and the Public Broadcasting Service’s Learning Media websites are two leading collections of this style of resource. With an efficient search and thoughtful planning, teachers can use digital interactives to create more engaging and exciting learning experiences for their students. This article proposes a four-step model that can be used to assist teachers in finding these resources and integrating them into social studies lessons. The model invites teachers to determine curricular needs, search the digital landscape, establish entry points, then build the digital interactive-enhanced lesson.

Small and midsize businesses are a number of restrictions on the market where they compete , they are caused by lack of resources or integration difficulties . For the company to develop and market in which it operates , highlights the role of the executive in the strategic process . This research investigation aims check for alignment between executive style and strategies and the impact of the performance of small and medium industries Mossley / RN . Methodologically , it is a descriptive study with data collection by surveying a structured and self-administered questionnaire , adapted from Håkonsson et al (2012 ) model was developed . Closed questions were asked , using Likert 5-point scale . The assumptions of the model were tested by Mann- Whitney test. It was found that the vast majority of companies presents a misalignment between the styles of business and enterprise strategy , the main type of misalignment : Style manager - analytical strategy . The general hypothesis , that the alignment between cognitive style and enterprise strategy leads to improved performance has been confirmed . The results corroborate the results obtained by Håkonsson et al (2012 ).

This type of culture facilitates communication and development of new technology across organizational and global boundaries. At Glaxo Wellcome, this matrix culture is reflected in an automation strategy that relies on both centralized and decentralized resources. The Group Development Operations Information Systems Robotics Team is a centralized resource providing development, support, integration, and training in laboratory automation across businesses in the Development organization. The matrix culture still presents challenges with respect to communication and managing the development of technology. A current challenge for our team is to go beyond our recognized role as a technology resource and actually to influence automation strategies across the global Development organization. We shall provide an overview of our role as a centralized resource, our team strategy, examples of current and past successes and failures, and future directions.

Abstract Objective – (1) To map the digital resources available to undergraduate educators in the humanities and the social sciences, (2) to survey faculty about their use of digital resources, and (3) to examine how understanding use and users can benefit the integration of resources into teaching. Design – A mixed-methods approach, which included a survey, conducting discussion groups, and in-depth interviews. Setting – Academic institutions in the United States. Subjects – (1) “Various stakeholders”; (2) 31 instructors from three institutions, and 4500 full-time and part-time faculty and graduate students (at California public research universities, liberal arts colleges and community colleges); and (3) 13 digital resource providers and two other stakeholders, and 16 site owners or user researchers. Methods – (1) A literature review, combined with discussions with various stakeholders. (2) Four sessions of discussion groups with 31 instructors from three institutions formed the basis for developing a faculty survey instrument. The survey was distributed both on paper and online. (3) Collection of data on cost and collaborative development strategies, in-depth interviews with 13 digital resource providers and two other stakeholders, combined with a two day workshop with 16 experts, both on the subject of online educational resources. Main results – (1) Concerning the humanities and social sciences digital resource landscape, the main results of the literature study were the conclusions that the field of online education studies is complicated by a lack of common vocabulary, definitions, and analyses; and that different stakeholder interests and agendas also influence the understanding of how digital resources are used. With the help of discussion groups, an attempt at creating a typology for digital resources available to undergraduates was made, looking at type of resource, origin, and type of role of the provider or site owner. From the article, it is unclear whether or not this attempt at classification was successful. (2) Concerning faculty use or non-use of digital resources, the most important result was the insight that personal teaching style and philosophy influence resource use more than anything else, and this also seemed to be the most important reason for not using digital resources. Faculty use digital resources for a number of reasons, to improve student learning, provide context, and also because it is expected of them. More than 70% of faculty maintain their own collection of digital resources. However, the lack of efficient tools for collecting, managing, and using these resources in teaching is seen as a problem. There is also a variation between scholarly fields, where faculty in different disciplines require different types of resources and use them in different ways, and for different educational reasons. (3) Concerning how understanding use and users can benefit the integration of resources in teaching, the results of the interviews show a lack of common terms, metrics, methods, or values for defining use and users; but a shared desire to measure how and for what purpose digital resources were being used. Few of the providers had any plans to evaluate use and users in a systematic way. Conclusion – The digital landscape is complicated. Faculty use is determined by personal teaching style and philosophy. Digital resource providers would like to know more about how and for what purpose digital resources are being used. Experts see a number of areas for further research, the results of which might help clarify the situation. The only way to understand the value of digital resources is to measure their impact and outcomes, but further work is needed to provide common vocabulary, metrics, and methods for evaluation.

The River Bend region of Hou’xi town in Chongqing Municipality is one of the Tujia neighborhoods; the spatial construction of the whole village has been made to face a crisis due to lack of basic research on the traditional settlement space and the interests driven in recent years. The reasons for the disorder and lack of the charm of the new settlement space were analyzed, and the construction policies of traditional settlements were combed based on field research from the perspective of Architecture and Landscape Architecture by the methods of combining quantitative and qualitative. The conclusion shows that the village building should respect and protect their traditional styles; the problems what the current village construction face are solved through the integration of the layout of public resources, the improvement of the traffic situation, the construction of the unique style and the transformation of the refinement.

All readers of this journal will know of the Griffiths Inquiry and its Report. The main concern of Griffiths was to change the ‘management style’ of the British National Health Service (NHS). This was to be achieved by the introduction of ‘general managers’ at national, regional, district and unit levels. General managers would provide a focus of authority and accountability, and their integrating role would replace the team ‘consensus’ management which had been orthodox doctrine in the NHS since the 1974 reorganisation, if not before. But Griffiths also had advice on the reform of financial management and control in the NHS. It advocated annual cost‐improvement programmes, and also the use of ‘management budgeting’.

Reducing resistance to change is fundamental to dealing with the rapid and continuous changes of the 21st century labor market. Personality traits have been widely studied in relation to resistance to change. However, personality is not completely suitable for primary prevention intervention, since it does not change over time. Instead, humor styles appear to be a promising preventive resource to facilitate the negotiation process by enabling individuals to cope with the current work environment. Using a sample of 149 university students, this study analyzed the relationship between personality traits, such as extraversion and emotionality, humor styles, and resistance to change. The mediation analysis highlighted that both affiliative and self-enhancing humor styles could promote integrative negotiations within organizations in relation to change, due to their negative relationships with resistance to change. Thus, implementing dedicated interventions to increase the usage of affiliative and self-enhancing humor styles could help in lowering the failure risk in negotiation processes, supporting changes.

In times of increasing pressures on water resources, the integrated management of the resource is a central policy objective. While there exists encompassing research about the concept of integrated water resources management (IWRM), much remains to be studied regarding the integration of water-related policies. Water resources management profits when policy actors coordinate their demands and actions across policy sectors, territorial entities, and decision-making levels within a water basin. However, actors are bound by the policy framework, which organizes water resources management in defined sectors and, over time, develop into independent and specialized policy pillars. A growing number of policies increases the need to integrate those policies over time following the institutional resources regime (IRR) framework. However, an increasing number of policies also proves challenging in establishing an integrated, coherent regime compliant with IWRM. In this study, we analyze flood risk management policies and find an almost exponential increase in policies over time, while flood risks and damage have not decreased in parallel. We address this empirical puzzle with an in-depth analysis of the design of Swiss flood risk management policies over time. To this end, we survey the opinion of 146 flood experts on the importance of ten policy design indicators in three flood-prone regions in Switzerland. Flood risk management experts attribute particular importance to policy designs characterized by integration, a sufficient budget for policy implementation, and coercive instruments and sanctions. We then compare survey results to the ways in which Swiss policies have been designed in legislation across policy sectors related to flood risk management over the last 169 years. We find that policy designs follow a national policy style. Placing these results in local contexts, we explain why the design of policies represents both a challenge and opportunity for policy-makers involved in flood risk management.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to elaborate an integrative framework that positions diversity considerations in a continuum of various leadership theories. The authors thus seek to differentiate between distinct leadership styles and assess their potential in fostering inclusive leader behaviors. Design/methodology/approach – The authors proceed to a brief review of the extant literature on diversity leadership by distinguishing between diverse followers and diverse leaders on one hand, and leadership styles in diverse and heterogeneous teams, on the other. The authors then provide a rationale for leadership theories that are more likely to support leader inclusiveness and foster inclusive leader and follower behaviors. Findings – Four distinct theoretical frameworks capturing the importance of emerging leadership theories (ethical, authentic. servant and spiritual leadership) for informing caring and inclusive climates, are introduced. The authors thus seek to delineate leadership styles effectively entrenched in organizational environments valuing, affirming and supporting diversity, which can better fit to inclusiveness goals. Practical implications – In view of designing and implementing inclusive initiatives, organizations should consider the specific context in which diverse leaders operate and through which diverse followers interact with diverse leaders. In so doing, corporations should encourage leadership styles that effectively combine goal attainment with an unconditional affirmation of the intrinsic value of diversity. Originality/value – The paper offers certain insights into the particular conditions that may help organizational leaders implement inclusion strategies facilitating thriving and fulfillment of diverse employees. In this respect, the authors elaborate on distinct leadership frameworks that are more pertinent to, and commensurate with inclusiveness objectives.

Purpose – Conflict in the workplace creates a challenge for many of present day managers. The purpose of this paper is to explore the moderating effect of generations X and Y on the relationship between personality and conflict handling styles. Design/methodology/approach – The study is conducted using a sample of 199 employees working in the electronic retail sector in a non-Western culture. The five-factor model of personality traits is used to measure personality, while conflict styles are measured using Rahim’s Organizational Conflict Inventory II. Findings – Results indicate that generations X and Y moderate the relationship between specific personality traits and conflict handling styles. Research limitations/implications – This study investigated the moderating effect of generations X and Y on a sample of employees within the electronic retail service sector in Lebanon. It is recommended that future research examine such a relationship in other sectors and cultures for generalizability. Since generation Z (born in the late 1990s) will soon be entering the job market, further studies should include this cohort when investigating the relationships. Finally, for a deeper understanding of the relationship, it is advisable to use both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. Practical implications – The understanding of what influences an individual’s choice regarding his/her choice of conflict resolution styles is of great use to supervisors in general and human resource managers in particular. This will assist in developing training programs that help employees acquire the appropriate skills necessary to control their impulses in a conflict situation. Training should comprise conflict resolution and communication skills that could help bridge the gap between generations. Effectively managing generational conflict in the workplace can positively contribute to the level and frequency of future conflicts, which in turn, can lead to favorable organizational outcomes. Originality/value – Earlier research that examined the relationship between personality and conflict management styles have found varying results ranging from weak to strong relationships. The understanding of what influences an individual’s choice of which management style he/she chooses is of great use for managers in general and human resource managers in particular. This study showed that the inconsistency could be the result of some factors that moderate this relationship. The age of individuals contributes to the strength or the weakness of the various relationships between personality and conflict handling styles. Findings suggest that generations X and Y do not moderate the relationships among the personality traits and the dominating and obliging conflict styles. They do, however, have varying moderating effects on the relationships between specific personality traits and the integrating, avoiding, and compromising styles.

This work presents an Elliptic-curve Point Multiplication (ECP) architecture with a focus on low latency and low area for radio-frequency-identification (RFID) applications over GF(2163). To achieve low latency, we have reduced the clock cycles by using: (i) three-shift buffers in the datapath to load Elliptic-curve parameters as well as an initial point, (ii) the identical size of input/output interfaces in all building blocks of the architecture. The low area is preserved by using the same hardware resources of squaring and multiplication for inversion computation. Finally, an efficient controller is used to control the inferred logic. The proposed ECP architecture is modeled in Verilog and the synthesis results are given on three different 7-series FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) devices, i.e., Kintex-7, Artix-7, and Virtex-7. The performance of the architecture is provided with the integration of a schoolbook multiplier (implemented with two different logic styles, i.e., combinational and sequential). On Kintex-7, the combinational implementation style of a schoolbook multiplier results in power-optimized, i.e., 161 μW, values with an expense of (i) hardware resources, i.e., 3561 look-up-tables and 1527 flip-flops, (ii) clock frequency, i.e., 227 MHz, and (iii) latency, i.e., 11.57 μs. On the same Kintex-7 device, the sequential implementation style of a schoolbook multiplier provides, (i) 2.88 μs latency, (ii) 1786 look-up-tables and 1855 flip-flops, (iii) 647 μW power, and (iv) 909 MHz clock frequency. Therefore, the reported area, latency and power results make the proposed ECP architecture well-suited for RFID applications.

This paper explores the theme of theory for practice in social work education, taking as its focus the application of a theoretical model called the Three-Stage Theory Framework for relating theory to practice during practicebased learning for social work. The article is derived from a research study carried out over a period of six months and presented for academic award in March 2005.The study demonstrates that the Three-Stage Theory Framework does indeed provide a useful resource for student learning which is currently lacking in social work training; that the process of using the Framework has benefits for student learning, for the development of practice teaching and for social work education in university and in practice. The study also shows that the Framework is flexible, developmental and can be used in different ways for a range of learning styles, stages of training and contexts for learning.

The current research integrated Open educational resources —OER— in a general english course at Uniminuto, a private university located in Bogotá. The primary objective was to innovate the process of teaching English as a foreign language through the use of Open educational resources to develop speaking skills in students with a B1.1 level. As a result, it was possible to identify that the OER allowed students to improve the way they speak and communicate with others in English. Moreover, the resources helped the students to develop an autono­mous learning style and improve their digital skills.
