The valorization of plant waste, so abundant in Morocco, offers great potential for the development of a new sector of composite materials. Nevertheless, this potential remains under-exploited. In this context, this study was carried out to investigate the thermal and acoustical characteristics of local composite panels based on plant fibers. The aim is twofold: on the one hand, to offer an alternative solution to waste management in Morocco, and on the other hand, to improve the thermal and acoustic performance of walls.Several samples of composite materials based on plant fibers (wood chips, sawdust, crushed hemp shiv, and fibred hemp shiv) were developed to assess their thermal and acoustical characteristics. From a thermal point of view, the experimental results have shown that the majority of composites studied exhibit low values of the thermal conductivity and diffusivity. In addition, the variation in bulk density has a considerable effect on the thermal properties of the composites. In addition, the thermal inertia parameters of the exterior wall are influenced by the thermophysical properties, thickness, and position of the insulation in the wall, as well as the internal global heat exchange coefficient. From an acoustic point of view, the samples have a significant acoustic absorption capacity, particularly at high frequencies. They can absorb more than 50% of incident sound energy over a wide range of frequencies. Composite bulk density and particle size also influence acoustic absorption. In conclusion, the results obtained provide a reliable and promising assessment of the thermal and acoustic performance of plant-based insulation materials. The development of this sector will contribute to Morocco's energy efficiency development program and enrich the database of insulation materials available in the country

In the world, mining presents major financial and social challenges, particularly with the growing demand for metals today and in the future. Mining produces large quantities of waste such as waste rock and mine tailings and can lead to many environmental issues such as: acid mine drainage, release of effluent with high metal concentration and in the specific case of uranium mine, the migration/emanation of uranium’s radioactive descendants. Responsible management of these sites is fundamental to avoid environmental and health impacts and relies on a good knowledge of their functioning. The aim of this thesis is to characterize the hydrogeological functioning of the tailings storage sites, today and over several decades to come, to ensure responsible management. This thesis focuses on three former uranium mines in France where tailings are stored. These sites have been chosen to represent the main storage types and the different water flow types in the tailings. These site are managed by ORANO AMF department (After-Mines France) and are under environmental monitoring (air, water, soil, food chain) that demonstrates the absence of any radiological or health impact. The methodology applied in this thesis is divided into three parts. The first part concerns the historical data collection coming from environmental monitoring, the implementation of a new monitoring on the sites and the data analysis. The second part is about the hydrogeological modeling used to quantify and predict the groundwater or surface flows in the tailings storage sites. The modeling approach has been adapted to the type of storage and flow on sites. The last part concerns the study of the climate change up to 2100 through the evolution of water balance variables, the seasonal variation and the frequency and intensity analyses of extreme events. In this thesis we proposed a methodology to understand the current hydrogeological functioning of 3 tailings storage sites. The climate change study shows that the current site management should remain sustainable in the future

This thesis was carried out within the LERMAB and the CETELOR and about the development of more than 98% biobased composites materials. Bast fibre type flax, hemp, kenaf and jute were selected, characterized chemically and physically. Nonwovens reinforcements are defined here as a superposition of cohesive webs products by pneumatic carding and consolidation by needling. The process we have chosen during this work allowed us to understand and to highlight the importance of the quality of the fibers on the mechanical and structural properties of the materials developed. Reinforcements made initially in a weight range from 200 to 800 g/m² in single, double or triple thicknesses have then been optimized to preserve the mechanical properties of the fibers and allow good accessibility of the impregnating resin. To limit the factors of complications, the process parameters have been limited for all fibers and composites. Fibers have been used singly or in mixtures, and impregnated by a matrix of natural tannin from mimosa and hexamine (as a hardener) or by synthetic resin of epoxy. Biocomposites with a rate of fibre mass over 50%, and density between 0.9 and 1.2 were obtained. Elasticity Modulus reach 6 GPa flexural and tensile. For strenght, averages reach 42 MPa and 75MPa respectively in tensile and bending

This study deals with the analysis of the influence of water on hemp/epoxy composites. Two resins have been used, one being 100 % petrochemical (Epolam) and the other one partially bio-based (Greenpoxy). The water absorption of the woven composites have been measured with gravimetric analyses. The results showed a Langmuir-type absorption, and depends on several parameters (type of resin, fibres and fabric, fibre ratio and thickness). DMA and DSC tests realised on resins showed the plasticizing effect of water and an irreversible modification of their properties after the water ageing. Microscopic observations of the composite at the yarn scale helped to detect that cracks between hemp fibres and epoxy matrix appear and develop right from the start of the desorption. Moreover, observations by photoelasticimetry showed an irreversible reorganisation of internal stresses due to this damage. Next, quasi-static tensile tests have been performed on woven composites and resins. The water ageing has modified the mechanical properties of the materials as well as the evolution of damage, which has been studied by acoustic emission and X-ray tomography. For a better understanding of the yarn/matrix interface behaviour, different tests have been developed with specific single yarn composites, in which the yarn is oriented at 45° or 90° in regard to the main axis of the specimen. First, nanoindentation tests have been performed, to measure the properties in situ of each component of the composites before and after water ageing. A second type of tests, based on the laser shock wave method, has been used to determine the quality of adhesion between the yarn and the resin. Finally, tensile tests on a micromachine under an optical microscope have been developed with the aim of measuring strain fields by digital image correlation. The results demonstrated that local strains are higher after a water ageing and that this phenomenon is more pronounced in the hemp/Greenpoxy than in the hemp/Epolam. The development of a finite element model led to estimate the local constitutive law of the different components of the composites and to study the evolution of the modulus after the ageing

This PhD thesis examines exchange rate movements’ effect on firm value, determinants of hedging policy and the role of agency conflicts. Results show that non-significance of foreign exchange rate exposure is explained by an asymmetric hedging. Firm hedging level depends from scale of economies, financial distress risk and it exports level. Our empirical results demonstrate, also, that CEO shares and stock-options compensations have negative effect on foreign exchange risk that is residue from hedging

Plant fibre composites are an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional composite materials such as fibreglass composites. However, plant fibres are highly hydrophilic in comparison with the polymer matrix. It is therefore necessary to study the influence of moisture on the mechanical behaviour of these eco-materials.In this work, three conditionings were applied. “Ambient” samples were stored and tested in ambient environment. “Wet” samples were immersed in water until saturation and tested in a climatic chamber at RH97. The objective of the “Wet/Dry” conditioning was to study the role of desorption on the mechanical properties of the composite. Woven hemp/epoxy composite samples with two orientations, [(0/90)]7 and [(± 45)]7, were tested in tension and fatigue according to the three conditionings. In situ analyses by acoustic emission and post-mortem analyses by SEM and micro-CT were carried out.Fatigue tests allowed to determine the Wöhler curves for the two orientations and the three conditionings. A phenomenological model was used to simulate the fatigue life of the composite in all configurations. The comparisons showed that the Wet samples exhibit a lower tensile strength than the Ambient specimens and a lower fatigue sensitivity, while the behaviour of the Wet/dry samples is similar to the Wet conditioning one concerning the tensile strength and similar to the Ambient one concerning the fatigue sensitivity. The classification of acoustic events allowed the identification of three clusters, each cluster corresponding to a type of damage (matrix damage, interfacial damage and fibre breakage). For the two orientations, the results showed that the proportion in number and the kinetics of development of each type of damage depend on the level of the maximum applied stress and on the conditioning. Matrix and interfacial damages are largely the most numerous acoustic events for all the configurations. Micro-CT analysis showed that the damage is different depending on the orientation. However, for each orientation, the same type of damage is observed for the three conditionings, at different stages of development: more advanced for the Wet conditioning, intermediate for the Wet/Dry one and the least developed for the Ambient one.The analysis of the yarn/matrix interface adhesion was performed through fragmentation tests realised on monofilament hemp/epoxy specimens. A specific mould was designed and developed to produce these specimens by casting. Acoustic emission monitoring and observations in polarized light allowed a better understanding of the fragmentation phenomenon in this type of material. The Interfacial Shear Strength (IFSS) values were calculated and the interfacial debonding lengths were measured. The results show that the yarn/matrix interface is weakened after drying, with a decrease in IFSS of 33%. To improve adhesion at the interface, treatments with hydrogen peroxide and non-thermal plasma were applied to the hemp yarns. Fragmentation tests showed that IFSS is almost twice as high with the peroxide treatment and three times higher with plasma, compared to untreated specimens. An upscale was made by applying the hydrogen peroxide treatment to the hemp fabric. The tensile and fatigue behaviour of hemp/epoxy composites produced with this treated fabric was studied. The results obtained at this scale are disappointing. Therefore, the non-thermal plasma treatment remains the most promising solution, but applying this technique at the fabric scale is complex and requires the development of a new reactor
