The thesis describes a program of research that investigated whether women's perceptions of intergroup conflict between men and women impact upon their interpersonal relationships with men. A series of three studies focus on two groups of women: women who perceive a high amount of gender-based discrimination and women who perceive relatively little gender-based discrimination. Unexpectedly, despite significant differences between the two groups in terms of their social indentities as women and their gender ideologies, there were no differences between them with respect to the nature and extent of their work, platonic, and intimate relationships with men. Two psychological mechanisms that may enable a woman to prevent perceptions of intergroup discrimination from impacting upon her intimate relationships are examined: the exceptional case and dissociative mechanisms. Although no support was found for the dissociative mechanism, strong support was found for the exceptional case mechanism. Women who perceive a high amount of discrimination, compared to those who perceived relatively little, are more likely to view their partners as exceptional in terms of their support of women's issues. Moreover, it was demonstrated in Study 3 that the male partners of these women are actually exceptional in terms of their support, as well as their negotiation, of women's issues.

Thesis (MA)--Stellenbosch University, 2001.ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The purpose of this paper was to review the available literature concerning how low-income women experience their heterosexual relationships. Particular attention was paid to the constructs of social support and intimacy which have both been cited as important variables for coping with stress. It was found that, despite there being more stressors associated with poverty, very little research has been conducted on lowincome women. However, when comparing the available literature, there seem to be important differences between low-income and middle-class women's expectations regarding heterosexual relationships. The literature suggests that for low-income women, heterosexual relationships can often be experienced as an additional source of stress, particularly as traditional gender roles playa greater role in expectations regarding the provision of social support. It therefore seems as though some low-income women, in a bid not to submit to traditional role expectations, choose to stay single and strive for financial independence in order to retain power within heterosexual relationships. The need for intimacy was not clearly articulated by low-income women but a desire for a sexually faithful partner was expressed. Although it seemed as though low-income women did not expect social support or intimacy from their male partners, they did articulate other specific expectations. The literature suggested that low-income women could reliably expect sex and the conception of children. from their heterosexual relationships but that their other expectations were often disappointed. However, heterosexual relationships are considered an important means for low-income women to gain status within the community. Finally, the current review of the literature highlighted the considerable overlap between the constructs of social support and intimacy. In conclusion, further research needs to be conducted (particularly in South Africa) in order to determine how low-income women experience their heterosexual relationships.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die doel van hierdie studie was om 'n oorsig te kry van die beskikbare literatuur oor laeinkomstevroue se ervaring van hulle heteroseksuele verhoudings. Aandag is in die besonder gegee aan die konstrukte van sosiale ondersteuning en intimiteit, wat albei as belangrike veranderlikes tydens die hantering van stres aangedui is. Daar is bevind dat, ondanks die feit dat daar meer stressore is wat met armoede in verband gebring word, baie min navorsing nog oor lae-inkomstevrouegedoen is. Wanneer die beskikbare literatuur egter vergelyk word, lyk dit asof daar belangrike verskille is tussen die verwagtinge wat onderskeidelik laeinkomstevroue en vroue uit die middelklas het ten opsigte van heteroseksuele verhoudinge. This thesis examined student-participants' self-reported use of romantic relational maintenance strategies and their partners' reports of relational satisfaction. Additionally, individuals outside the romantic relationship reported on student-participants' general communicator style. The research proposed that general style reports would be predictive of relational maintenance strategy usage and of romantic partners' relational satisfaction. The study found that general style behaviors may not be indicative of relational maintenance strategy usage or romantic partners' relational satisfaction. Tests of sex differences revealed that females' expression of various relational maintenance strategies and style behaviors are associated with male partners' relational satisfaction; however, no results were obtained indicating specific behaviors expressed by males result in female partners' relational satisfaction.

This dissertation applies the theoretical perspective of gender relations and develops methods to understand and analyze the movement of women from the center of social systems to its margins when these systems are undergoing rapid socio-economic and political change. This research responded to the pressing need for the application of newer, more appropriate theoretical and methodological perspectives to examine shifting power relations between women and men in areas undergoing transformation. In the case study, I investigate the locus of power in a system of cooperatives in the Departement du Nord, Haiti and discover how and why female members are being relegated to the periphery of this development programme. I find that a system of gender-based social power is causing unequal opportunities and oppressive power relations for female members in the cooperatives. I analyze how and why this system of social power causes conflict when the interests of female and male members differ in the cooperatives and I explore strategies for change. This dissertation also contributes to a greater understanding of the power dynamics which exist when one group holds different preferences and practices to the dominant group whose framework is the one considered acceptable in the society.

The overall aim of this thesis was to explore the impact of Internet relationships on regular ongoing relationships from the point of view of those engaged in such relationships. Two studies were conducted. A sample of 75 participants, including 22 females and 53 males who were married or living in defacto relationships and ranging in age from 18 to 75 years completed an anonymous online survey for
Study One. Demographic characteristics, frequency and method of communication and relationship satisfaction were investigated. Questions were asked about Internet relationship formation. Respondents were asked to gauge levels of self-disclosure within their regular ongoing relationship and their online relationship. They were also asked about the proximity and physical attractiveness of their online partner. It was found that most respondents communicated daily, were more satisfied with their Internet partner than their regular ongoing partner, considered their Internet partner physically attractive
and communicated in a highly intimate manner. The purpose of the second study was to investigate the similarities and differences between the personality characteristics and
attachment styles of respondents. Participants in the second study were 133 respondents
who were married or living in defacto relationships, including 47 females and 86 males
ranging in age from 18 years to 66 years. Respondents completed an anonymous online survey, which included measures of personality (e.g. the International Personality Item
Pool, Goldberg, 1999), the Relationship Satisfaction questionnaire (Hendrick, 1988), and
the Experiences in Close Relationships Scale (Brennan, Clark, & Shaver, 1998). Respondents were found to be somewhat more agreeable and conscientious, and less narcissistic than previous research had found to be the case for those individuals who engaged in face-to-face infidelity. The preoccupied attachment group was well represented, but was less differentiated from the other attachment groups than was the fearful group, who were mainly female. The personality profile and attachment style of respondents in Study Two was, therefore, found to be different in important ways from that which has been associated with face-to-face infidelity. Findings were discussed in terms of methodological implications, suggestions for future research and also implications for Counselling Psychologists.

This thesis is a critique of romantic love theoretically premised on the analytical psychology of Carl Jung and the humanistic psychoanalysis of Erich Fromm. The aim of this critique is to explore whether there are grounds for postulating a conception of love beyond the current romantic framework. As the critique is primarily concentrated at the depth level, romantic love is examined via the medium of Cinderella folklore, with particular focus on Andy Tennant's 1998 film adaptation of Cinderella, Ever After. Based on a Jungian approach to the psyche and psychic products, the methodological framework incorporates the three following tools: The tool of interpretation at the subjective level, in which the characters of the Cinderella fairy tale are read symbolically rather than taken to denote literal fictitious characters; the tool of constructive analysis, in which it is argued that romantic love is more than 'nothing but' a boy/girl love story or 'nothing but' a myth depicting patriarchal oppression; and the tool of amplification, in which archetypal similarities between the Christian myth and the Cinderella fairy tale are highlighted. The central argument of this critique is that while romantic love does not provide a viable model of relatedness if taken and practiced literally, the romantic myth nonetheless contains within it the basis for a fuller and richer experience of love and relatedness if read subjectively. The rationale for a depth critique of romantic love is based upon the Jungian postulate that phenomena such as dreams and myths issue fundamentally from the unconscious psychic realm, and further upon Jung's recognition of a psychological developmental process he refers to as 'individuation' activated by engagement with the products of the unconscious. A symbolic/psychological reading of romantic love brings to light that romantic desire toward another is an outward manifestation of an inner desire for individual realisation, and is expressive of the individual's own capacity for wholeness. The value of a symbolic reading of romantic love is appreciated if it is conceived that it is precisely individual realisation that forms the basis for what is referred to by Erich Fromm as productive or knowledge-based love, argued here to be the ideal and only firm basis for human relatedness generally and intimate relatedness specifically.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Intimate heterosexual relationships play a vital role in shaping the lives of many people, and have therefore become an important topic of research within psychology. The South African population is also currently faced with many prevalent psychosocial problems, such as HIV/Aids, rape, violence against women and divorce, which need to be contextualised within the context of intimate heterosexual relationships. Research on intimate heterosexual relationships has therefore become a priority. In order to determine directions and priorities for such research, the objective of this assignment was to provide a review of selected international and South African research on intimate heterosexual relationships. This review focused on: the definition and operationalisation of intimate heterosexual relationships; the salient theoretical frameworks used; the characteristics of participants; as well as the methodologies employed by relationship researchers. The review highlighted the following: A variety of terms is used by relationship researchers to conceptualise intimate heterosexual relationships which makes it difficult to integrate intimate heterosexual relationship research. Although theoretical frameworks like the social learning theory, cognitive behavioural theory and some metatheoretical perspectives such as postmodernism, feminism and social constructivism are utiiised, South African relationship researchers mostly have an atheoretical approach to research. A review of the research participants revealed that most participants in South African relationship studies are married adults. While the male-female ratio of the participants was balanced, the diversity of the South African population was not well represented in these studies. Researchers mostly used qualitative research strategies and employed the survey method of data gathering. Based on these findings, it was recommended that relationship researchers should recognise the need to clarify the relationship concepts used in their studies; attempt to incorporate better-known relationship theories; ensure that the South African population is well represented; and to combine qualitative research strategies with quantitative research strategies.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMINGE: Intieme heteroseksuele verhoudings speel 'n deurslaggewende rol in die vorming van baie mense se lewens en het daarom 'n belangrike navorsingsonderwerp in sielkunde geword. Die SuidAfrikaanse populasie staar tans verskeie psigososiaie probleme so os MIVNigs, verkragting, geweld teen vrou en egskeiding in die gesig, wat almal binne die konteks van intieme heteroseksuele verhoudings gekonseptualiseer behoort te word. Navorsing oor intieme heteroseksuele verhoudings het daarom 'n prioriteit geword. Ten einde rigtings en prioriteite vir sulke navorsing te bepaal, was die doel van hierdie werksopdrag om 'n oorsig te voorsien van selektiewe internasionale en Suid-Afrikaanse navorsing oor intieme heteroseksuele verhoudings. Self-enhancement is a process by which individuals misperceive themselves by viewing themselves in a positively biased manner. Past research indicates that self-enhancement can have both positive and negative effects on romantic relationships. The purpose of this dissertation was to explore the role of self-enhancement in unmarried dating couples (N = 124 couples; 248 individuals) with respect to conflict, dyadic adjustment, causal and responsibility attributions, and possible moderators between self-enhancement and dyadic adjustment. The results are organized in four sections. First, I found a curvilinear relationship between participant self-enhancement and conflict. At very low and very high levels of self-enhancement there were increased levels of conflict. Second, participant self-enhancement was positively associated with positively associated with increased participant dyadic adjustment, but there was no relationship between participant self-enhancement and partner dyadic adjustment. Third, there was no relationship between participant self-enhancement and causal and responsibility attributions. Fourth, forgiveness and commitment did not moderate the relationship between self-enhancement and dyadic adjustment; however, there were main effects for both forgiveness and commitment - both forgiveness and commitment were positively associated with dyadic adjustment. I conclude by discussing limitations, areas of future research, and implications for counseling.

This study investigated responsibility attributions for a partner's emotional infidelity and for a partner's sexual infidelity, and the likelyhood that the victim or partner would end the relationship. This study found a significant relationship between responsibility attributions for a romantic partner's unfaithfulness and the likelihood the relationship would end: the stronger the attributions of personal responsibility the more likely the relationship would dissolve.

Resumo: No contexto das análises sobre a relação entre as dinâmicas familiares e a crescente inserção e permanência das mulheres no mercado laboral, este trabalho tem como objetivo geral o estudo da participação de mulheres unidas no provimento doméstico. De maneira mais específica, a pesquisa procura discutir quais variáveis sociodemográficas seriam importantes para o perfil das mulheres unidas que são provedoras e a maneira como a participação de mulheres e homens unidos no provimento doméstico é afetada pelo modo como se inserem (ou não) no mercado de trabalho. O tempo gasto no trabalho remunerado e nos afazeres domésticos constitui também ponto importante de estudo, já que permite analisar o gasto total de tempo dos indivíduos em um e em outro e como isso pode ou não influenciar a participação no provimento doméstico. Outro objetivo específico da tese foi buscar também analisar a trajetória profissional e familiar do casal, como as mulheres se tornaram provedora e como isso afeta a organização doméstica. Tentou-se entender se o fato de as mulheres unidas serem provedoras ou não alterou de alguma maneira o tempo gasto nos afazeres domésticos e a participação dos parceiros nesses afazeres. Para cumprir tais objetivos, a pesquisa foi realizada em duas etapas: uma, quantitativa, através da análise dos dados das PNADs de 2001 a 2009 para o Estado de São Paulo urbano, e outra, qualitativa, baseada em 42 entrevistas com mulheres unidas. Dessas, nove com não provedoras, 14 com provedoras complementares e 19 com provedoras principais, todas da Região Metropolitana de Campinas. A principal contribuição deste trabalho é mostrar que a participação feminina no provimento doméstico no Estado de São Paulo urbano é algo consolidado e teve um aumento constante no decorrer da década. Outro ponto importante do trabalho foi verificar que homens e mulheres unidos estão inseridos de maneiras diferentes no mercado de trabalho e isso reflete em suas participações no provimento doméstico. Enquanto a grande maioria desses homens é provedor principal, a maioria das mulheres é provedora complementar. Por outro lado, a participação no provimento doméstico não diminui a jornada doméstica de trabalho feminino, fazendo com que as mulheres provedoras ainda tenham muita dificuldade em articular o trabalho remunerado com os afazeres domésticos. Contudo, o mesmo não acontece para os homens. Entre as mulheres que são provedoras principais há um agravante extra, por mais que participar do mercado de trabalho seja importante para que elas adquiram independência quanto à administração do seu dinheiro, a sobrecarga de trabalho ainda é muito grande. Para elas, assumir parte principal ou o total do provimento doméstico se transforma em uma experiência negativa, já que em sua percepção, tal situação desobriga os homens de assumirem suas responsabilidades familiares, tanto no que diz respeito ao provimento doméstico quanto a uma maior participação nas trabalhas domésticas
Abstract: In the context of the analysis about the relation between family dynamics and the increasing participation and retention of women in the labor market, this research aims to study the participation of women in union (married or in a consensual union) in household providing. More specifically, the research discusses which sociodemographic variables would be important for the profile of these women in union who are household providers and how the way women and men in union are inserted (or not) in the labor market. The time spent in paid employment and household chores is also an important point of this research, since it allows analyzing the total time men and women together spend and how it may or may not influence their participation in household providing. The data for the analysis of the professional and familiar career of the couple and the household organization are also important to the household providing analysis and were considered. To accomplish these goals, the research was conducted in two stages: quantitative, through the analysis of data from the PNAD from 2001 to 2009 for the State of São Paulo, and qualitative, based on interviews made with 42 women in union, of which nine were non-providers, 14 were complementary providers and 19 were primary providers. All these women were from the Metropolitan Region of Campinas, SP, Brazil. The main contribution of this research is to show that female participation in household providing in the State of São Paulo is something consolidated and had a steady increase during the decade. Another important point of this research was that men and women that are living together in a stable relationship are placed differently in the labor market and this is reflected in their participation in household providing. While the vast majority of these men are the main providers, most women are complementary providers. Moreover, the participation in household providing does not reduce women's workload and the female providers end up having a hard time articulating paid employment with domestic chores. However, the same is not true for men. Among women who are primary providers there is an aggravating point, even though being in the labor market is important for them to gain independence in the management of their money, the workload is still too large. For these women, taking the main part or the total of the household providing becomes a negative experience, since, in their perception, it frees men of assuming their familiar responsibilities in household providing and in their part of the housework

This study examined five seminal television series — I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Jeffersons, The Cosby Show, and Home Improvement — for episodes of conflict. Those episodes of conflict were then analyzed through thematic analysis. Using Baxter's (1988) relational dialectical tensions as a theoretical framework, the internal tensions present in romantic relationships (i.e., autonomy v. connection, novelty v. predictability, and openness v. closedness) served as themes to organize the data. After identifying the dialectical tensions present in each of the series, the shows were then compared to determine if a shift had occurred in each of the dialectics over time.Department of Communication Studies

This purpose of this study was to combine two bodies of literature on relationships, attachment and violence. Given the impact of men's physical aggression and emotional abuse on women, it is likely that these behaviors would also affect attachment. A model proposing that women's attachment style mediated and moderated the relationship between partners' physical and emotional abuse and the stability of women's relationships was tested. Archival data were used from two waves of interviews with a sample of lowincome, ethnically diverse community women. Most (89%) of the initial 835 participants of Project HOW: Health Outcomes of Women completed at least one additional interview providing information on the status of their initial relationships. Of these women, 39% were African American, 30% were Euro-American, and 31% were Mexican American. The effects of men's psychological abuse and physical violence on women's attachment style were tested with regression analyses. The interrelationships between partners' abuse, attachment and relational stability were tested with SEM. Attachment style was expected to moderate the associations among variables and mediate the impact of partners' negative behavior on relational stability. In regression analyses, partners' psychological abuse predicted avoidant and anxious, but not secure attachment ratings. Violence, although significant, explained less variance than psychological abuse for insecure attachment ratings. SEM indicated Physical Aggression was not a significant predictor of Attachment Rating in any group. Moderation was not found. There were no differences between attachment groups. Therefore, attachment was tested in the sample as a mediator. As in analyses for each group, the path from Physical Aggression to Attachment Rating was not significant. In the final model, Emotional Abuse predicted Physical Aggression and Attachment Rating mediated the effect of Emotional Abuse on Relational Stability. Specifically, Emotional Abuse increased (insecure) Attachment Rating, which decreased Relational Stability. Overall, previous research in the violence literature was extended by showing that emotional abuse affected attachment, rather than the reverse.

An emerging body of research on signaling theory applies evolutionary psychology to explain the purpose of a signaler's use of a luxury brand. However, in response to visible signals displayed by an unknown woman's use of a luxury brand, the male receivers' decoding (perceptions) and reactions (counter-signals) on the signals are ignored in previous research. This research has the overarching objective of filling this research gap through the lens of evolutionary psychology. Through a series of experiments, it was found that an unknown woman using a luxury (vs. non-luxury) brand results in men believing that she is more likely to be in a committed relationship. Also, there is a moderating effect of an unknown woman's overall physical attractiveness on the effect of her use of a luxury (vs. non-luxury) brand on men's intentions to attract her; and men's attracting intentions mediate the moderating effect of an unknown woman's overall physical attractiveness on the effect of her use of a luxury (vs. non-luxury) brand on men's intentions to display material resources or physical fitness. These research findings not only offer theoretical contributions to signaling theory, but also generate managerial implications and future research directions.

Part of creating relationships in a new context includes trying to understand the sexual scripts in a given discourse. Because creating sexual relationships is a part of sexual health it is, therefore, important to explore how sexual relationships are a part of the sex education curriculum for unaccompanied children and young adults. Through a critical discourse analysis the authors conclude that RFSU’s sex education curriculum includes a specific construct of the concept ‘sexual relationship’ that reveals what RFSU sees as the needs of unaccompanied children and young adults. Sexual relationships are constructed in the sex education curriculum in line with four themes: norm criticism, mutuality/consent/respect, sexual rights, and risk-emphasized education. These themes illuminate the needs that are considered when educating unaccompanied children and young adults. Additionally, the study shows that in the sex education curriculum; The creation of relationships in new contexts is not prioritized. This study also highlights how practical information about sexual scripts, may paradoxically, conflict with the anti-discriminatory and inclusive aim of RFSU’s sex education. However, the authors also conclude that the absence of concrete examples about sexual scripts in the curriculum, might prevent participants from gaining useful tools navigating their sexual relationships.

L’objet du travail de la thèse est l’étude de l’image du corps de la femme dans la littérature médicale antique, sous ses différents aspects physiologiques et culturels, étude fondée sur les témoignages de deux auteurs centraux pour cette recherche : Hippocrate (Ve siècle av. J.-C.) et Soranos (Ier siècle ap. J.-C.). Les traités gynécologiques et embryologiques du Corpus hippocratique soulignent l’importance absolue du rôle maternel pour l’image de la femme, rôle en fonction duquel est interprété le corps féminin, ce qui est démontré également par l’intérêt pour la future mère dans de nombreux passages de l’œuvre Gynaecia de Soranos. En effet, à cause de jugements négatifs sur la virginité et à cause de problèmes résultant de la stérilité, la maternité devient non seulement garante de la continuité familiale mais a également une fin thérapeutique et assure un état de bien-être. Une analyse des traités du point de vue philologique et historico-littéraire peut rendre pleinement compte de la complexité des indications de nature sociale et anthropologique qui abondent dans les traitésThe subject of this work is the study of the woman’s body in the field of ancient medical literature, from both physiological and cultural aspects. The study is based on the testimony of two authors who were key figures in this reserach : Hippocrates (5th century B.C.) and Soranus (1st century B.C.). Genealogical and embryological treatises of the Hippocratic Corpus highlight the great importance of the maternal role in the image of the woman, a function by which the female body is interpreted, matter that is also confirmed in several pieces by Sorano’s Gynaecia which show an important interest for the expectant mother. Indeed, because of the negative opinion about virginity and the problems arising from infertility, motherhood became not only the guarantor of the family continuity, but also a therapeutic method which provided a state of well-being. A philological and historical-literary analysis of the treatises can clearly demonstrate the complexity of the social and anthropological indications which are abound in the treatises

Bakgrund: Interorganisatoriska relationer har blivit allt viktigare de senaste åren, företag köper exempelvis in IT-tjänster för att kunna förbättra sin kärnverksamhet. Det är dock vanligt att interorganisatoriska relationer misslyckas, en lösning till problem med dessa relationer är att använda ekonomisk styrning. En typ av relation som är speciellt utsatt för problematiken är relationen mellan små och medelstora företag, vilket är en grupp det saknas forskning och empiriska undersökningar om, trots dess stora inverkan på den svenska ekonomin. Ännu mer problematiskt blir det när dessa företag köper eller säljer tjänster, då hantering av tjänster kräver en större administrativ kunskap som mindre företag generellt inte besitter. Därmed är det av intresse att studera hur relationen mellan små och medelstora företag som hanterar tjänster ska styras på bästa sätt. Syfte: Syftet med studien är att skapa en modell över hur styrningen av interorganisatoriska relationer utformas och används av små och medelstora företag. Genomförande: Studien är en kvalitativ fallstudie med ett abduktivt angreppsätt. Empirisk data har samlats in genom semistrukturerade intervjuer på fem olika små och medelstora företag som köper och säljer tjänster, med syfte att framhäva perspektivet från båda partner i relationen. Resultat: Studiens resultat visar att det krävs en kombination av formella och informella styrmedel för att ha en fungerande interorganisatorisk relation. Avvägningen av olika styrverktyg beror på olika bakomliggande faktorer som präglar relationen mellan små och medelstora företag men resultatet tydliggör även att tillit och kommunikation har en stor inverkan på behovet av olika slags styrning. Samtidigt har kontraktet en väsentlig del av de studerade interorganisatoriska relationerna. Det är i kontraktet som bland annat finansiella och ickefinansiella målsättningar kan specificeras och kontraktet används som ett underlag för utförandet av tjänsten, uppföljning och avstämning, vilket inte alltid utförs i praktiken. Tilliten som finns mellan parterna i en relation påverkar hur kontraktet sedan används. Studien visar att formella styrmedel och tillit i vissa delar av relationen kan användas som substitut till varandra.Background: The importance of interorganizational relationships has increased in recent years. Companies outsource peripheral components of their operations, such as IT, in order to focus on the main purpose of the company. It is common, however, for these relationships to fail and one solution to the problems arising from interorganizational relationships is the use of management control systems. Relationships between small and medium sized enterprises, in particular, present significant issues. Although they have a great impact on the Swedish economy, there are few scientific studies on them. These companies have an even harder time coping with interorganizational relationships when they are dealing with services, as they require more administrative knowledge than they don’t possess. It is therefore of elevated interest to study the relationship between small and medium sized enterprises that handles services and what type of management control system is best suited for the relationship. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to create a model of the management control systems of interorganizational relationships between small and medium sized enterprises. Design: The study is a qualitative case study with an abductive approach. Empirical data has been collected through semi-structured interviews at five different small and medium sized enterprises that sell and buy services in order to elucidate both parties’ perspectives. Conclusion: The results from the study demonstrate that it is necessary to have a combination of formal and informal management control systems in order to maintain a functioning interorganizational relationship. The balance between different control systems depends on underlying factors arising from the relationship between small and medium sized enterprises. The study also shows that trust and communication has a great impact on the need for different types of control, however, the contract has simultaneously proven to be an essential part of the interorganizational relationships that have been studied. The contract can specify the financial and non-financial aims of the parties and can also be used as a model for how the service should be provided. The contract can also be used for future reviews of the working relationship, although this is not always the case, as the level of trust between the two parties will influence how the contract is actually used. The study shows that formal control systems and trust can be used as substitutes to one another throughout the relationship.

Detta är en kvalitativ studie som undersöker hur barnens intressen, tankar och idéer ingår i det tematiska arbetet i svenska förskolor. Syftet med denna studie är att förstå hur förskollärare arbetar för att möjliggöra barns inflytande och deltagande i det tematiska arbetet i förskolan. Detta kommer vi att analysera genom det relationella perspektivet med kompletterande centrala begrepp. Syftet kommer att besvaras med följande frågor:• Hur arbetas teman fram i förskoleverksamheten?• Hur tar pedagogerna vara på barnens intressen, tankar och idéer idet tematiska arbetet?• Hur ser pedagogerna på det tematiska arbetet?Vår studie är en kvalitativ studie där intervjuer har använts som metod för att ta reda på hur förskollärare arbetar med barns inflytande och deltagande i det tematiska arbetet. Från resultatet kan vi se att utformningen av det tematiska arbetet varierar i de olika kommuner där förskolorna är belägna. Oavsett hur uppstarten ser ut, är barnens intressen alltid i fokus och får chans till inflytande i det tematiska arbetet. För att göra det lättare för både barn och förskollärare valde samtliga avdelningar att arbeta i smågrupper. Detta främjar ett säkert klimat där varje barn får en chans att uttrycka sig. Resultatet visade också att förskollärarna anser att det tematiska arbetet är ett verktyg för att hålla barnen intresserade och göra aktiviteterna meningsfulla genom att koppla dessa till ett visst tema. De poängterar också komplexiteten i att involvera alla barnens intressen i aktiviteterna. Flera av förskollärarna betonar vikten av att skapa goda relationer med barnen och att det är grunden för ett roligt och utvecklande arbetssätt.This is a qualitative study that examines how the children's interests, thoughts and ideas are included in the thematic work in Swedish preschools. The purpose of this study is to understand how preschool teacher’s work to enable children’s influence and participation in the thematic work in preschool, which we will analyze by using the relational perspective with complementary concepts. The purpose will be answered by following questions:• How are themes developed in preschool activities?• How does preschool teacher’s include children’s interests, thoughts and ideas inthe thematic work?• What is the preschool teacher’s view on the thematic work?Our study is a qualitative study where interviews have been used as a method in order to find out how preschool teacher’s work with children’s influence and participation in the thematic work. From the result we can see that the design of the thematic work varies in the different towns in which the preschools are located. No matter what the start-up looks like, the children’s interests are always in focus and gets a large influence in the thematic work. To make it easier for both children and preschool teacher’s, all departments chose to work in small groups. This promotes a safe climate where every child gets a chance to express themselves. The result also showed that preschool teacher’s considers the thematic work being a tool to keep the children interested and making the activities meaningful by connecting the activities to a certain theme. They also point out the complexity of involving all of the children's interests equally in the activities. Several of the preschool teacher’s emphasize the importance of creating good relationships with the children and that it is the basis for a fun and developing way of working.

Det insamlade materialet från dessa intervjuer har sedan kommit att tematiseras utifrån en hermeneutisk tolkningsmetod, varpå resultatet tolkats utifrån ett socialkonstruktivistiskt, samt ett inlärningsteoretiskt perspektiv.Av resultatet framkom, bland annat, att en definition av begreppet den terapeutiska relationen var svår att särskilja från konkreta beskrivningar av hur en samtalsledare bör arbeta för att skapa en god terapeutisk relation, samt vilka personliga egenskaper som utmärker en god terapeut.Nyckelord:, Common factors, Den terapeutiska alliansen Den terapeutiska relationen, Four stages of competence, Samtalsbehandling, SocialkonstruktivismThe main purpose of this report was to bring clarity to the definition about the concept of the therapeutic relationship, as well as providing a description of what the therapist needs to consider, when it comes to creating the “good therapeutic relationship”.This has been done on the basis of qualitative in-depth interviews with a total of seven therapists, who in their descriptions, together came to form an understanding of these two different aspects of the concept. The collected material from these interviews was then thematized, in the basis of a hermeneutic interpretation method, in after witch these results were interpreted from a social constructivist, and a learning-theory perspective.The main results show that a definition of the therapeutic relationship was difficult to distinguish from the descriptions of how therapists work to create a good therapeutic relationship, as well as the personal characteristics of “the good therapist”.Keywords: Common factors, Four stages of competence, Social constructivism, The therapeutic alliance, The therapeutic relation, Therapy
