Abstract We theoretically studied and optimized the thermal rectification of spherical and cylindrical conductive thermal diodes operating with two phase-change materials (PCMs), whose thermal conductivities significantly changes in a narrow interval of temperatures. This is done by deriving simple analytical expressions for the heat flows, temperature profiles and rectification factors of both diodes. It is shown that diode geometry has a significant impact on the heat flows and temperature profiles, but not so much on the thermal diode rectification factor. Optimal rectification factors of 63.5 and 63.2% are obtained for the spherical and cylindrical thermal diodes operating between the terminals of VO2 and polyethylene with a temperature difference of 150 K spanning the metal–insulator transition of both PCMs. These similar rectification factors could be enhanced even more with a phase-change material exhibiting higher contrast thermal conductivity than the ones in the present study. The obtained results can thus be useful to guide the development of PCMs capable of optimizing the rectification of conductive heat flows with different geometries.

Gas rectification columns are a very important part of each onshore plant. Their sudden failures cause huge losses on a daily basis, while fluid leakage can be very dangerous to people and environment. For that reason, the proper design of the column is of huge importance, among the others safety factors as well. In this paper, the wall thickness measure is presented with the aim to calculate corrosion rate and remaining life of rectification columns. The minimum required column wall thickness was calculated according to the most commonly used international standard and the obtained difference was analyzed.

The effects of permeant (K+) ions on polyamine (PA)-induced rectification of cloned strong inwardly rectifying channels (IRK1, Kir2.1) expressed in Xenopus oocytes were examined using patch-clamp techniques. The kinetics of PA-induced rectification depend strongly on external, but not internal, K+ concentration. Increasing external [K+] speeds up "activation" kinetics and shifts rectification to more positive membrane potentials. The shift of rectification is directly proportional to the shift in the K+ reversal potential (EK) with slope factors +0.62, +0.81, and +0.91 for 1 mM putrescine (Put), 100 microM spermidine and 20 microM spermine (Spm), respectively. The time constant of current activation, resulting from unblock of Spm, also shifts directly in proportion to EK with slope factor +1.1. Increasing internal [K+] slows down activation kinetics and has a much weaker relieving effect on block by PA: Spm-induced rectification and time constant of activation (Spm unblock) shift directly in proportion to the corresponding change in EK with slope factors -0.15 and +0.31, respectively, for 20 microM Spm. The speed up of activation kinetics caused by increase of external [K+] cannot be reversed by equal increase of internal [K+]. The data are consistent with the hypothesis that the conduction pathway of strong inward rectifiers is a long and narrow pore with multiple binding sites for PA and K+.

<span lang="EN-US">Twelve-pulse rectification system had been widely integrated in today’s DC traction power sub-station (DC-TPSS). This configuration had successfully mitigated low order harmonic distortion. As some research findings had confirmed that the dc voltage and current ripple factors may further minimize by increasing the number of rectification pulses to 18, 24, or 36. This paper had presented a simulation study to investigate the prospect of implementing an eighteen-pulse rectification system in a DC-TPSS. The theory of phase-shifting transformer used to produce an 18-pulse rectifier is presented with simulation verification. Simulation result shows that 3.69% of grid current distortion index is recorded without installing any filters. In addition, the dc voltage and current ripple may also be further reduced for about 30% compared to a conventional twelve-pulse rectification system.</span>

Classical thermal rectification arises from the contact between two dissimilar bulk materials, each with a thermal conductivity (k) with a different temperature dependence. Here, we study thermal rectification in a Si(1−x)Gex alloy with a spatial dependence on the atomic composition. Rectification factors (R = kmax/kmin) of up to 3.41 were found. We also demonstrate the suitability of such an alloy for logic gates using a thermal AND gate as an example by controlling the thermal conductivity profile via the alloy composition. This system is readily extendable to other alloys, since it only depends on the effective thermal conductivity. These thermal devices are inherently advantageous alternatives to their electric counterparts, as they may be able to take advantage of otherwise undesired waste heat in the surroundings. Furthermore, the demonstration of logic operations is a step towards thermal computation.

According to character of resident building and engineering geological condition, method of digging and watering along horizontal direction is put forward, and used for building’s rectification. Namely soil of horizontal hole is digged under one-floor ground and watered in superior subsidence side. Then subsidence is come into existence, and subsidence speed is controlled, the inclined building is forced to reverse step by step. Combining engineering examples, influence factors of building’s rectification are analyzed by numerical simulation method, which includes hole spacing, hole diameter and hole depth, and influence law of relative settlement is obtained.

Self-propelled colloidal objects, such as motile bacteria or synthetic microswimmers, have microscopically irreversible individual dynamics—a feature they share with all living systems. The incoherent behavior of individual swimmers can be harnessed (or “rectified”) by microfluidic devices that create systematic motions that are impossible in equilibrium. We present a computational proof-of-concept study showing that such active rectification devices could be created directly from an unstructured “primordial soup” of light-controlled motile particles, solely by using spatially modulated illumination to control their local propulsion speed. Alongside both microscopic irreversibility and speed modulation, our mechanism requires spatial symmetry breaking, such as a chevron light pattern, and strong interactions between particles, such as volume exclusion, which cause a collisional slowdown at high density. Together, we show how these four factors create a novel, many-body rectification mechanism. Our work suggests that standard spatial light modulator technology might allow the programmable, light-induced self-assembly of active rectification devices from an unstructured particle bath.

The layout of the pump station is easily affected by topography, site, and other factors, resulting in poor inlet flow patterns in the forebay, which seriously affect the normal operation of the pump station. To optimize its inlet flow pattern, the size of the hollow rectification sill has been continuously improved through physical model tests to meet the requirements of the required pump station inlet flow field. In this paper, particle swarm optimization (PSO) was combined with the Gaussian process (GP) to establish a particle swarm-Gaussian process (PSO-GP) model to predict the velocity uniformity of the inlet sump of pump stations with different hole-to-height ratios, hole-to-width ratios, upper-to-lower sill length ratios, and sill height-to-water table ratios. Finally, the hollow rectification sill with the optimal size was obtained and tested in the physical model to compare the rectification effect with other sizes of hollow sills. The results show that the algorithm model can help the traditional physical experiment quickly predict the velocity uniformity of the inlet sump of the pump station. Through the optimization by the PSO-GP algorithm, we can get the optimal size of the hollow rectification sill. Its hole-to-height ratio is 0.62, its hole-to-width ratio is 0.37, upper-to-lower sill length ratio is 0.63, and sill height-to-water table ratio is 0.23. It shows that this method is practical in the optimization design of the hollow rectification sill and provides a new method for the optimization of the flow field in the forebay of the pump station.

Geometric accuracy of the remote sensing rectified image is usually evaluated by the root-mean-square errors (RMSEs) of the ground control points (GCPs) and check points (CPs). These discrete geometric accuracy index data represent only on a local quality of the image with statistical methods. In addition, the traditional methods only evaluate the difference between the rectified image and reference image, ignoring the degree of the original image distortion. A new method of geometric quality evaluation of remote sensing image based on the information entropy is proposed in this paper. The information entropy, the amount of information and the uncertainty interval of the image before and after rectification are deduced according to the information theory. Four kind of rectification model and seven situations of GCP distribution are applied on the remotely sensed imagery in the experiments. The effective factors of the geometrical accuracy are analysed and the geometric qualities of the image are evaluated in various situations. Results show that the proposed method can be used to evaluate the rectification model, the distribution model of GCPs and the uncertainty of the remotely sensed imagery, and is an effective and objective assessment method.

The mechanism of inward rectification was examined in cell-attached and inside-out membrane patches from Xenopus oocytes expressing the cloned strong inward rectifier HRK1. Little or no outward current was measured in cell-attached patches. Inward currents reach their maximal value in two steps: an instantaneous phase followed by a time-dependent "activation" phase, requiring at least two exponentials to fit the time-dependent phase. After an activating pulse, the quasi-steady state current-voltage (I-V) relationship could be fit with a single Boltzmann equation (apparent gating charge, Z = 2.0 +/- 0.1, n = 3). Strong rectification and time-dependent activation were initially maintained after patch excision into high [K+] (K-INT) solution containing 1 mM EDTA, but disappeared gradually, until only a partial, slow inactivation of outward current remained. Biochemical characterization (Lopatin, A. N., E. N. Makhina, and C. G. Nichols, 1994. Nature. 372:366-396.) suggests that the active factors are naturally occurring polyamines (putrescine, spermidine, and spermine). Each polyamine causes reversible, steeply voltage-dependent rectification of HRK1 channels. Both the blocking affinity and the voltage sensitivity increased as the charge on the polyamine increased. The sum two Boltzmann functions is required to fit the spermine and spermidine steady state block. Putrescine unblock, like Mg2+ unblock, is almost instantaneous, whereas the spermine and spermidine unblocks are time dependent. Spermine and spermidine unblocks (current activation) can each be fit with single exponential functions. Time constants of unblock change e-fold every 15.0 +/- 0.7 mV (n = 3) and 33.3 +/- 6.4 mV (n = 5) for spermine and spermidine, respectively, matching the voltage sensitivity of the two time constants required to fit the activation phase in cell-attached patches. It is concluded that inward rectification in intact cells can be entirely accounted for by channel block. Putrescine and Mg2+ ions can account for instantaneous rectification; spermine and spermidine provide a slower rectification corresponding to so-called intrinsic gating of inward rectifier K channels. The structure of spermine and spermidine leads us to suggest a specific model in which the pore of the inward rectifier channel is plugged by polyamines that enter deeply into the pore and bind at sites within the membrane field. We propose a model that takes into account the linear structure of the natural polyamines and electrostatic repulsion between two molecules inside the pore. Experimentally observed instantaneous and steady state rectification of HRK1 channels as well as the time-dependent behavior of HRK1 currents are then well fit with the same set of parameters for all tested voltages and concentrations of spermine and spermidine.

Abstract Voltage standard source is an important basic instrument in the electrical measurement and testing field, and it has important guarantee significance for many industries. AC voltage standard source is based on AC-DC conversion technology to achieve output function of high precision AC voltage. In order to get a better effect of AC-DC conversion, the three factors—operational amplifier, resistance and diode—that have a greater impact on the accuracy of the rectifier output were taken the research object, and their impacts on the circuit error were analyzed respectively. The output result was compared with the output of full wave precision rectification circuit under ideal state, and the scheme of reducing error in the precision rectifier circuit was summarized, which provides a reference for improving the accuracy of AC-DC conversion in the design of full wave rectifier circuit.

Titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) is an important intermediate material for the preparation of titanium products. The organic impurities in TiCl4 are easily accumulated during the production of titanium sponges due to the problems of imperfect detection methods and the lack of effective control methods, resulting in a poor quality of sponge titanium. Among all impurities, chloroacetyl chloride (CAC) is the most important in TiCl4. Herein, the determination of the CAC content in TiCl4 solution, with a low detection limit of 0.633 ppm, was established by the standard addition method using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry. This test method presented good repeatability, excellent accuracy, and moderate precision. Furthermore, the influencing factors of CAC separation in the continuous rectification process, including the heating power (the ratio of total heating power to feed rate), reflux temperature, top tower pressure, and feed temperature were optimized based on an orthogonal experimental design. The experimental data demonstrated that the average CAC removal rate reached 78.94% ± 1.00% under the optimal distillation conditions, with 72.21% of the CAC removed via the off-gas system. Therefore, excellent control of the negative pressure of the tail gas is highly desirable for the removal of CAC impurities.

Work system safety is a function of many factors, besides it is dynamic and complex. There may be relations and dependencies among the safety factors. Therefore, work system safety should be analyzed in a holistic manner. In this study, the accidents data analysis is used to identify the links among the factors; the relationship analysis of the independence between the behavioral factors has been performed in order to find the non-independent factors. Among the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS), the impact of the high-level factors on the bottom level is determined. After a period of monitoring and rectification, it implements a new round of safety monitoring and factors comparison and interaction analysis, so to achieve the goal of “the nature of safety” of hydropower projects construction.

In recent years, there have been constant disputes over college student cadres. Starting from the public opinion crisis of College Students’ autonomy and using the “K-core” algorithm, this paper found that the college student cadres could not realize their own correct roles. The fuzzy cognitive map (FCM) model was used to analyze 49 influencing factors of N University's retreat action. It is found that the five factors of mass support, ability, ideology and morality, work tasks, and performance evaluation are important factors leading to the retreat action. This research proposes role reconstruction and system rectification strategies for the five variables in order to achieve a true feeling of student autonomy and good governance.

A novel Monte Carlo-based indoor radio-frequency identification (RFID) positioning scheme is proposed for dual-antenna RFID systems with the cooperation of dual-antenna joint rectification. By deploying reference passive RFID tags on the ground to establish an RFID tag-based map, indoor self-positioning of a moving platform carrying an RFID reader with two forward-looking antennas can be simply implemented by looking up the positions of responded RFID tags at each time step of movement, and estimating the platform position by using the proposed Monte Carlo-based algorithm. To improve the positioning accuracy of Monte Carlo-based positioning, each antenna channel, with its own footprint on the ground, may rectify its position estimation by using the tag position information interrogated by the other antenna channel. The algorithm for dual-antenna rectification is proposed. The performance of the proposed Monte Carlo-based self-positioning scheme is demonstrated by both simulation and experiment tests. Some factors in a practical indoor-positioning system, such as the reference tag distribution pattern, reader antenna footprint size, and footprint overlap, are discussed. Some guide rules for deploying the RFID indoor-positioning system are also reported.

Road safety and its risk assessment has become very significant due to the increasing population and usage of transports in the current scenario. This research work primarily focuses on assessing the critical risk factors that trigger road accidents in India. Based on literature review and expert’s opinion, twenty-eight risk factors are identified and rated on a scale from 1 – 6. These critical factors are prepared as a questionnaire and the required input data is collected from a diversified set of automotive users. Further, the data is carefully processed and analyzed for identification of severe risk factors and its allied route cause based on the survey pattern. Three different cut-off patterns (Low risk, high risk & medium risk zone) are included to make the study more interesting, and the 28 factors are clustered with the aid of the collective results. Also, the dominant risk factors that has higher probability in triggering road accidents are identified for possible rectification.

The electrical characterization of p-Silicon (Si) and n-Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorod heterojunction diode has been performed. ZnO nanorods were grown on p-Silicon substrate by the aqueous chemical growth (ACG) method. The SEM image revealed high density, vertically aligned hexagonal ZnO nanorods with an average height of about 1.2 μm. Electrical characterization of n-ZnO nanorods/p-Si heterojunction diode was done by current-voltage (I-V), capacitance-voltage (C-V), and conductance-voltage (G-V) measurements at room temperature. The heterojunction exhibited good electrical characteristics with diode-like rectifying behaviour with an ideality factor of 2.7, rectification factor of 52, and barrier height of 0.7 V. Energy band (EB) structure has been studied to investigate the factors responsible for small rectification factor. In order to investigate nonidealities, series resistance and distribution of interface state density (NSS) below the conduction band (CB) were extracted with the help of I-V and C-V and G-V measurements. The series resistances were found to be 0.70, 0.73, and 0.75 KΩ, and density distribution interface states from 8.38 × 1012 to 5.83 × 1011 eV−1 cm−2 were obtained from 0.01 eV to 0.55 eV below the conduction band.

Inward rectification was characterized in neonatal spiral ganglion neurons maintained in tissue culture. Whole cell current and voltage-clamp techniques were used to show that the hyperpolarization-activated cationic ( I h) current underlies most or all of the inward rectification demonstrated in these neurons. The average reversal potential (−41.3 mV) and cesium sensitivity were typical of that found in other neurons and cell types. What was unique about the hyperpolarization-activated currents, however, was that the half-maximal voltages ( V 1/2) and slope factors ( k) that characterized I h current activation were graded from neuron to neuron. Voltage-clamp recordings made with standard bath and pipette solutions revealed V 1/2 values that ranged from −78.1 to −122.1 mV, with slope factors from 7.6 to 13.1. These gradations in the voltage-dependent features of the I h current did not result from variability in the recording conditions because independently measured Na+ current-to-voltage relationships were found to be uniform (peak current at −20 mV). Moreover, the range and average V 1/2 and slope values could be altered with activators [8-(4-chlorophenylthio) adenosine 3′,5′-cyclic monophosphate in combination with okadaic acid] or inhibitors { N-[2-(p-bromocinnamylamino)ethyl]-5-isoquinolinesulfonamide}of protein indicating that I h current heterogeneity most likely resulted from differential phosphorylation.

The testing of pan-European instruments on crisis migration is analysed on Germany’s example, one of the key recipient countries of the European Union. Promising forms of ordering unregulated and international humanitarian migration, refugees have corresponded with the state migration policy of the Russian Federation.

ABSTRACTCarbon films deposited by filtered cathodic vacuum arc have been used to form high quality Schottky diodes on p-Si. Energetic deposition with an applied substrate bias of -1 kV and with a substrate temperature of 100 °C has produced carbon diodes with rectification ratios of ∼ 3 × 106, saturation currents of ∼0.02 nA and ideality factors close to unity (n = 1.05). Simulations were used to estimate the effective work function and the thickness of an interfacial mixed (C/SiO2) layer from the current/voltage characteristics of the diodes.

The matter of estimating prevalence of neurotic disorders is being discussed. It provides information about somatic-vegetative and affective symptoms of neurotic disorders, depending on psychological factors (in particular, attachment, parenting style, marriage relationships, parental business, degree of awareness of psychogenic character of disorders). It also describes foreign studies, which show the role of psychogenic factor in the development of such disorders as ADHD, opposition-defiant disorder and learning disabilities. Parental practices contributed to child neurotic disorders emergence is analyzed. The "helicopter parents" and "lawnmower parents" are described. Authors use their experience of psychological work with families to describe some of these practices: "rejection of differentiation", "anxiety escort", "child's rectification".

Retinal Müller cells are highly permeable to potassium as a consequence of their intrinsic membrane properties. Therefore these cells are able to play an important role in maintaining potassium homeostasis in the vertebrate retina during light-induced neuronal activity. Polyamines and other factors present in Müller cells have the potential to modulate the rectifying properties of potassium channels and alter the Müller cells capacity to siphon potassium from the extracellular space. In this study, the properties of potassium currents in turtle Müller cells were investigated using whole cell voltage-clamp recordings from isolated cells. Overall, the currents were inwardly rectifying. Depolarization elicited an outward current characterized by a fast transient that slowly recovered to a steady level along a double exponential time course. On hyperpolarization the evoked inward current was characterized by an instantaneous onset (or step) followed by a slowly developing sustained inward current. The kinetics of the time-dependent components (block of the transient outward current and slowly developing inward current) were dependent on holding potential and changes in the intracellular levels of magnesium ions and polyamines. In contrast, the instantaneous inward and the sustained outward currents were ohmic in character and remained relatively unaltered with changes in holding potential and concentration of applied spermine (0.5–2 mM). Our data suggest that cellular regulation in vivo of polyamine levels can differentially alter specific aspects of potassium siphoning by Müller cells in the turtle retina by modulating potassium channel function.

The use of shore-based video systems has become a very popular and accessible low-cost tool for coastal monitoring given their capability to deliver continuous and high-resolution temporal data over large enough spatial scales. However, the reliability of the final image products can be compromised by external factors, sometimes overlooked, that can alter the image geometry over time. In particular, unwanted camera movement, produced either by thermal or mechanical effects, can lead to significant geo-rectification errors if not properly corrected. Abstract We investigate the heat transport properties of a three-level system coupled to three thermal baths, assuming a model based on superconducting circuit implementations. The system-bath coupling is mediated by resonators which serve as frequency filters for the different qutrit transitions. Taking into account the finite quality factors of the resonators, we find thermal rectification and circulation effects not expected in configurations with perfectly-filtered couplings. Heat leakage in off-resonant transitions can be exploited to make the system work as an ideal diode where heat flows in the same direction between two baths irrespective of the sign of the temperature difference, as well as a perfect heat circulator whose state is phase-reversible.

Epithelial sodium channels (ENaC) are regulated by various intracellular and extracellular factors including divalent cations. We studied the inhibitory effect and mechanism of external Ni2+on cloned mouse α-β-γ ENaC expressed inXenopusoocytes. Ni2+reduced amiloride-sensitive Na+currents of the wild type mouse ENaC in a dose-dependent manner. The Ni2+block was fast and partially reversible at low concentrations and irreversible at high concentrations. ENaC inhibition by Ni2+was accompanied by moderate inward rectification at concentrations higher than 0.1 mm. ENaC currents were also blocked by the histidine-reactive reagent diethyl pyrocarbonate. Pretreatment of the oocytes with the reagent reduced Ni2+inhibition of the remaining current. Mutations at αHis282and γHis239located within the extracellular loops significantly decreased Ni2+inhibition of ENaC currents. The mutation αH282D or double mutations αH282R/γH239R eliminated Ni2+block. All mutations at γHis239eliminated Ni2+-induced inward current rectification. Ni2+block was significantly enhanced by introduction of a histidine at αArg280. Lowering extracellular pH to 5.5 and 4.4 decreased or eliminated Ni2+block. Although αH282C-β-γ channels were partially inhibited by the sulfhydryl-reactive reagent [2-(trimethylammonium)ethyl] methanethiosulfonate bromide (MTSET), α-β-γ H239C channels were insensitive to MTSET. From patch clamp studies, Ni2+did not affect unitary current but decreased open probability when perfused into the recording pipette. Our results suggest that external Ni2+reduces ENaC open probability by binding to a site consisting of αHis282and γHis239and that these histidine residues may participate in ENaC gating.

Modulation of Aplysia mechanosensory neurons is thought to underlie plasticity of defensive behaviors that are mediated by these neurons. In the past, identification of modulators that act on the sensory neurons and characterization of their actions has been instrumental in providing insight into the functional role of the sensory neurons in the defensive behaviors. Motivated by this precedent and a recent report of the presence of Aplysia Mytilusinhibitory peptide-related (AMRP) neuropeptides in the neuropile and neurons of the pleural ganglia, we sought to determine whether and how pleural sensory neurons respond to the AMRPs. In cultured pleural sensory neurons under voltage clamp, AMRPs elicited a relatively rapidly developing, then partially desensitizing, outward current. The current exhibited outward rectification; in normal 10 mM K+, it was outward at membrane potentials more positive than −80 mV but disappeared without reversing at more negative potentials. When external K+ was elevated to 100 mM, the AMRP-elicited current reversed around −25 mV; the shift in reversal potential was as expected for a current carried primarily by K+. In the high-K+ solution, the reversed current began to decrease at potentials more negative than −60 mV, creating a region of negative slope resistance in the I-V relationship. The AMRP-elicited K+ current was blocked by extremely low concentrations of 4-aminopyridine (4-AP; IC50= 1.7 × 10−7 M) but was not very sensitive to TEA. In cell-attached patches, AMRPs applied outside the patch—thus presumably through a diffusible messenger—increased the activity of a K+ channel that very likely underlies the macroscopic current. The single-channel current exhibited outward rectification, and the open probability of the channel decreased with hyperpolarization; together, these two factors accounted for the outward rectification of the macroscopic current. Submicromolar 4-AP included in the patch pipette blocked the channel by reducing its open probability without altering the single-channel current. Based on the characteristics of the AMRP-modulated K+ current, we conclude that it is a novel current that has not been previously described in Aplysia mechanosensory neurons. In addition to this current, two other AMRP-elicited currents, a slow, 4-AP-resistant outward current and a Na+-dependent inward current, were occasionally observed in the cultured sensory neurons. Responses consistent with all three currents were observed in sensory neurons in situ in intact pleural ganglia.

The performance of β-Ga2O3 Schottky contacts (SCs) fabricated using amorphous, intentionally oxidized platinum–iridium alloys was investigated as a function of alloy composition and β-Ga2O3 crystal orientation. PtyIr(1−y)Ox SCs with Pt fractions of y = 0.8, 0.5, and 0.3 were deposited on (001), ([Formula: see text]), and (010) single-crystal β-Ga2O3 substrates via the reactive rf and dc co-sputtering of Pt and Ir targets using oxygen–argon plasmas. In each case, the PtyIr(1−y)Ox SCs were highly rectifying with current rectification ratios (at ±3 V) of 11/10/9 orders of magnitude (at 300 K) for the (001)/([Formula: see text])/(010) β-Ga2O3 substrates. Current–voltage ( I– V) and capacitance–voltage ( C– V) measurements revealed that the Pt0.5Ir0.5Ox SCs contained the highest Schottky barriers on all β-Ga2O3 crystal faces, with the best contacts having ideality factors of 1.05 and image-force-corrected I– V and C– V determined barrier heights of 2.10 and 2.20 eV, respectively. These were consistently higher by ∼0.2 eV than the corresponding barriers for the Pt0.8Ir0.2Ox and Pt0.3Ir0.7Ox SCs, with the Pt0.5Ir0.5Ox SCs also having significantly lower reverse leakage currents (in the 0 to −100 V range). In comparison, the barrier heights of the best unoxidized plain-metal Pt0.5Ir0.5 SCs were only ∼1.2 eV, illustrating the effectiveness of in situ oxidation in improving the performance of PtIr SCs. All PtyIr(1−y)Ox SCs on ([Formula: see text]) β-Ga2O3 showed excellent high-temperature performance with rectification ratios (at ±3 V) of 109 at 300 °C and of 106 at 500 °C.

This cross-study aimed to determine the prevalence of IBS and its associated factors among 205 healthcare professionals in the primary health care centers in Al-Madinah City. Cluster sampling was used to select 16 primary health centers from the four regions of the city. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data about socio-demographics, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), the Rome IV Diagnostic Questionnaire, dysphoria scale, and performance scale. Mean (SD) age of participant was 34.5 (6.6). Majority were nurses (40%) and Saudi (93.7%). The prevalence of IBS was 16%. Factors associated with IBS in the univariate analysis were nationality(p=0.023) anxiety (p=0.010), depression (p<0.001), performance (p<0.001) and dysphoria (p=0.003). In multivariate analysis, the significant predictor of IBS was depression (aOR=1.3, 95%CI 1.2-1.4, p<0.001). In conclusion, the prevalence of IBS among healthcare professionals in the current study was 16.1%, with predominantly IBS-Constipation subtype. IBS was associated mainly with depression. Future intervention studies are recommended to establish possible causal inferences between psychological morbidities and quality of life domains for rectification on treatment aspects of IBS.

As one of the types of coal mine disasters and accidents, gas explosion is an important resistance affecting coal mine safety production. How to effectively identify gas explosion, find out the causes of gas explosion accidents, and make timely prediction and rectification is an urgent problem in coal mine industry. In this paper, the cause model of coal mine gas explosion is constructed based on the Bayesian network, and the cause chain of gas explosion accident is established by SPSS correlation analysis. The main factors leading to gas explosion accidents are found by parameter learning, reverse reasoning, sensitivity analysis, and key cause path. The results show that the main causes of mine gas explosion are gas accumulation and fire source explosion. The main causes of gas accumulation are no wind or breeze caused by local ventilator problems. The generation of electric spark is the main cause of fire source explosion. Cable damage, short circuit, mechanical and electrical equipment explosion, illegal operations, and lack of safety skills are also important factors leading to gas explosion.

Interest in the influence of the incidence angle of a laser beam to distance measurements can be seen in many areas of science and technology: geodesy, glaciology, archaeology, machine automation, and others. This paper presents results of measurements of the effect of the incidence angle of a laser beam to distance measurements to the surfaces of different colour and roughness by Topcon's electro-optical total station with an accuracy of 3 mm. Measurement method and the method of elimination of test stand errors are presented. The results of measurements have been analysed and the influence of selected factors (surface colour and roughness, lack of instrument rectification) on the distance measurement have been discussed. It is also shown the critical incidence angle above which it can be impossible to measure distances to reflective foil with tested total station

The orientation of plate images in license plate recognition is one of the factors that influence its accuracy. In particular, tilted plate images are harder to detect and recognize characters with than aligned ones. To this end, the rectification of plates in a preprocessing step is essential to improve their performance. We propose deep models to estimate four-corner coordinates of tilted plates. Since the predicted corners can then be used to rectify plate images, they can help improve plate recognition in plate recognition. The main contributions of this work are a set of open-structured hybrid networks to predict corner positions and a novel loss function that combines pixel-wise differences with position-wise errors, producing performance improvements. Regarding experiments using proprietary plate images, one of the proposed modes produces a 3.1% improvement over the established warping method.

The current conditions for the intensification of animal husbandry dictate a significant increase in the physiological and functional load on the body of productive animals, resulting in a failure of adaptive capacity, which manifest themselves in the violation of reproduction function and the development of pathological states. Research by domestic and foreign scientists has shown that stress plays a leading role in the etiology and pathogenesis of diseases leading to a reduction in animal reproduction [3, 4, 9]. Although the topic of stress is often covered in the scientific literature, some of its features are not fully explored. This is particularly true for male producers whose genetic material has a direct impact on livestock productivity and livestock production [1, 3, 4, 11]. Therefore, the study of the influence of stress factors on the reproductive capacity of males and their pharmaco-rectification is relevant. The aim of our research was to assess the degree of influence of technological stress factors on the reproduction function of the bull producers and to develop a pharmaco-correction scheme to prevent stress effects on sperm quality. In relation to the objective, the following objectives were proposed: 1. Study the reaction of the ox producers to the effects of technological stress; 2. Determine the influence of drugs Amber biostimulator, Azoxyvet on the quality of bull sperm.

A total of 212 independent ambulatory patients were enrolled in the study. Group I consisted of 113 patients who had persistent pelvic retraction, and Group II of 99 with a normal range of pelvic rotation throughout the gait cycle as evidenced by kinematic analysis. A multivariate logistic regression analysis using a clustering technique was performed, with use of eight gait factors and five clinical factors. Decreased ankle dorsiflexion, increased hip internal rotation, increased anterior pelvic tilt, the Winters classification type II, and asymmetrical posturing of the upper extremity during gait were found to be related to pelvic retraction. This is the only study including a broader array of assessment domains of both clinical and gait parameters with a considerably large and homogenous population with hemiplegia. Further studies will be needed to see whether the rectification of those parameters may improve abnormal gait and pelvic retraction in hemiplegia.

In order to improve the inflow state of the combined sluice-pumping station project with a 15° transverse side angle, a Y-shaped settling diversion wall is designed, which can change its layout form according to the operation conditions of the project. To analyze the flow characteristics of the Y-shaped settling diversion wall with different parameter combinations, an orthogonal test is used in this article. Considering four factors that can affect the flow pattern—the length, width, radian and arc radius of the diversion wall—the rectifying performances of 25 diversion wall schemes were analyzed under two operating conditions. The results show that the radian factor of the Y-shaped settling diversion wall has the greatest influence on its rectification effect. Finally, combined with numerical simulation of the optimal scheme and several other comparison schemes, the best scheme for the parameter combination of the diversion wall of the combined sluice-pumping station with a 15° transverse side angle is obtained.

There is now an expanding body of literature on the significant problem of business non-compliance with minimum labour standards including ‘wage theft’. Extended liability regulation beyond the direct employer is seen as one solution to this non-compliance in fragmented but hierarchically organised industries—such as the cleaning industry. This article uses empirical evidence to assess the effectiveness of one such regulatory scheme, the Cleaning Accountability Framework (CAF), in addressing non-compliance with minimum labour standards (including provisions of the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) and the Cleaning Services Award 2020). We find that CAF has been successful in identifying and rectifying certain non-compliance, improving working conditions for some cleaners involved in the scheme. We synthesise the key success factors of CAF in view of envisioning the adoption of such co-regulation frameworks in other industries. We also propose legal reforms that will support change across the cleaning industry.

Abstract – Defect is one of the most problems in car manufacturer especially in PT. XYZ. Paint Problem, Scratch, Dent, Shortage, Gap and Transition are some problems which usually found in the assembly process. Those problems are caused by many factors: shipment, logistic or even assembly process itself. Thus, there must be some ideas or ways to be developed to decrease total problems in the assembly process. The purpose of decreasing total defects in the assembly line is because there are too many cars park and wait at the rectification area to get repaired. Therefore, this research is one of many ways that can reduce the amount of defects in the cars by improving In-Line and Shadow Station Rework concept which means to repair or rework light defect such as small scratch and paint problem. In addition, there is supporting tools called B-Pillar protector to prevent damages at the most problematic part (B-Pillar) at the station which contributes the most damage. With this method and supporting tool, PT.XYZ hopes total defect cars at the end of assembly line will reduce.

Perception of body weight has been recognized as an important barrier in the adoption of healthy lifestyles. Several factors affect perception of body weight, but the outcomes have been varied. This study aimed to study the perception and misperception of body weight and its association with the measured body mass index. A clinic-based cross-sectional study was done in the clinic using systematic sampling. Data were collected by using a self-administered questionnaire consisting of the sociodemographic profile, body weight perception question adopted from Weight Management Questionnaire and Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) 1991-2017. The prevalence of body weight misperception in the sample population was 58.6%. Most of the respondents were overweight (33.9%) and obese (33.9%). Respondents aged 25 years and older were 2.98 times more likely to have misperception compared with other age groups (95% CI: 1.21-3.19, P = .006). Divorced respondents were 4.70 times more likely to have body misperception compared with married respondents (95% CI 1.44-15.32, P = 0.01). This study showed that misperception of body weight could be influenced by reversible factors and measured body mass index. Hence, the rectification of these misperceptions is important in the clinical setting especially in these vulnerable groups of respondents.

The global weakness of collective bargaining and state regulation has spawned growing interest in employment protection though private governance. However, scepticism about the efficacy of unsupervised codes of conduct has triggered debate about external discipline through state regulation. This article seeks to contribute to debates about the processes that shape the nexus between private governance and state regulation. It is based on an empirical study of Australian harvest workers who formally benefit from state regulation of pay and occupational health and safety (OHS). However, industry changes have undercut standards. Product market pressures from supermarkets squeeze growers’ capacity to pay. Also, the labour market is increasingly supplied by vulnerable Asian temporary migrants (including undocumented workers), often supplied to growers by unscrupulous temporary work agencies. While pay and OHS practices vary, many harvest workers are exploited. Nor is private governance (which extends to horticulture through the codes of conduct of supermarkets and peak temporary work agency bodies) effective. All codes draw their standards from minimum legal employment conditions, and all possess loopholes allowing breaches to escape attention and rectification. In 2015, media and political attention fell on the working conditions of temporary migrants in horticulture. Government inquiries found evidence of exploitation, but were divided over solutions. Progressive politicians (influenced by unions) favoured stronger state enforcement powers and temporary work agency licensing. Conservative politicians (influenced by business lobbies) claimed these steps would fail, and favoured the status quo. Political reform therefore stalled. This study illustrates the importance of political processes in shaping the nexus between state regulation and private governance. In this case, a political stalemate leaves both regulation and governance deficient. Lacking protection from either source, harvest workers remain exposed to exploitative employment conditions.

With the rapid development of urban economy, the development of urban rail transit is becoming more and more rapid. As an energy-saving, land-saving, and environment-friendly green travel mode, the subway provides realistic and feasible solutions to the increasingly prominent traffic environment and other urban diseases in our country and brings a booming development in the subway construction industry with efforts to promote and build in many large cities. For a large number of subway constructions, it is particularly important to judge the construction safety status in time during the entire safety management process. Regularly conducting safety risk assessments on subway construction status can accurately predict and judge the types of accidents that occur. In order to solve the current safety risk assessment problems in the process of subway construction in our country, this paper is based on the BP neural network to intelligently identify the safety risks of subway construction, choosing from three aspects: human factors, management factors, and risk factors. We evaluate the construction safety of subway projects under construction through the model, predict the types of accidents that may occur, so that the construction unit can take corresponding preventive and improvement measures, improve the relevant safety technology of subway construction in a targeted manner, and propose corresponding reductions. We provide suggestions and measures for risk probability, to ensure that the construction unit discovers the danger in time and takes safety measures. The rectification measures provided theoretical basis and guidance.

It is assumed that two societies had existed in Czechoslovakia for some time and the difference between them, and possible analogies, are examined. There is also an assumption that the division of Czechoslovakia occurred especially because ‘Czechoslovak society’ as such had not yet been established; this was in spite of the fact that the two societies, at the time of the split, had substantially more in common than they had had at the time of Czechoslovakia's formation. There exists the view, which we want to verify, that during the decline of the federation the following factors were significant:1. The differences in economic, social, cultural and dispositional structures;2. The asynchronous and differing processes of modernization in both societies;3. The different consequences of the formation of societies of Soviet type in the Czech Lands in Slovakia;4. The differing processes for rectification of political, economic and cultural institutions in both republics after November 1989.

Slope failures are common in many parts of the world which occur due to manifold reasons and they result in huge losses to the respective locals. This study evaluates the initiatives that can enhance the safety of slope by considering the remedial measures to deal with the factors causing slope instability and discusses the application of risk management strategies to address the problems that can cause the slope to fail. The methods for the remediation of slope include modification in slope geometry, drainage, use of retaining structures and internal slope reinforcement. This study also discusses the risk management process which is a hierarchical procedure that includes assessment and control of risk through different techniques in order to manage the uncertainties associated with the slope. It has been observed that the implementation of risk management strategy aids in the proper identification of risk and its severity which dictates the selection of appropriate remedial measure for the rectification of slope. For reducing the number of landslides, this study suggests the use of risk based strategies to curtail the chances of slope failure.
