When designing power facilities, the problem usually arises of comparing their possible options for performance, taking into account consumer quality. A common and easy-to-implement method is the formation of a generalized indicator, however, subjectivity is inherent in it, given this, the task of developing algorithms and methods that objectively consider the quality indicators of an energy object becomes especially urgent. It is argued that, in accordance with the condition for making a decision on the type of the synthesizing function, the main object of uncertainty, respectively, of the quality indicator, which is inherently subjective, is the vector of the significance coefficients of the weight coefficients. The presented algorithms in conditions of uncertainty that allow you to build a generalized quality criterion for energy facilities. For a comprehensive assessment of the quality of energy facilities, it is proposed to use the methods of arbitrary summary indicators, namely: the method of arbitrary summary indicators, the method of priority of private quality indicators and the method of minimizing the deviation of the summary quality indicator. It is proposed to reduce the influence of subjective factors in determining the weight coefficients, it is advisable to use a combination of these methods. For the method of minimizing the deviation of the aggregate indicator, using the principle of objectivity, an algorithm for determining the weight coefficients has been developed, taking into account that in the area of permissible changes in parameters, the value of the criterion will be minimal. Accordingly, to solve the problem of comparing the options for constructing energy facilities, which includes the determination of weight coefficients for the formation of a composite indicator, it is necessary to use the results of expert assessment that are supplemented by calculation methods that will reduce the subjective factor that is inherent in the method of expert assessment.

Many existing natural scene statistics-based no reference image quality assessment (NR IQA) algorithms employ univariate parametric distributions to capture the statistical inconsistencies of bandpass distorted image coefficients. Here, we propose a multivariate model of natural image coefficients expressed in the bandpass spatial domain that has the potential to capture higher order correlations that may be induced by the presence of distortions. We analyze how the parameters of the multivariate model are affected by different distortion types, and we show their ability to capture distortion-sensitive image quality information. We also demonstrate the violation of Gaussianity assumptions that occur when locally estimating the energies of distorted image coefficients. Thus, we propose a generalized Gaussian-based local contrast estimator as a way to implement non-linear local gain control, which facilitates the accurate modeling of both pristine and distorted images. We integrate the novel approach of generalized contrast normalization with multivariate modeling of bandpass image coefficients into a holistic NR IQA model, which we refer to as multivariate generalized contrast normalization (MVGCN). We demonstrate the improved performance of MVGCN on quality-relevant tasks on multiple imaging modalities, including visible light image quality prediction and task success prediction on distorted X-ray images.

The paper deals with one of the significant parts of the concept related to controlling production quality, which is the analysis of production quality stability done for the following production procedure regulation aimed at the food manufacturing industry. The proposed methodology (respecting the change of location and variability of the food quality characteristics) will be introduced on the milk quality regulation. Also, there is the frequent problem solved out here in the report that relates to food quality measuring – their self-regulation by using the statistical calculation of self-regulation higher classes’ coefficients and also using the functional statement taken from the differential description.

The article deals with the subject of the impact which road surfaces have onto cargo and the securing of cargo against shocks during road transport. The applicability of the key EN 12191‑1:2010 standard is discussed, not only for common conditions, but also for specific transport conditions on low‑quality road surfaces. Part of the article involves carrying out a transport experiment on a road paved with granite blocks and on a highway, from which data on the impact of shocks on cargo (acceleration coefficients values) were obtained. The data were statistically evaluated and compared to the normatively determined values of these acceleration coefficients. A parametric statistical analysis (two‑sample t‑test) was used to compare the values of the acceleration coefficients from the two types of surfaces. The analysis conducted shows statistically significant differences between the data measured on the road paved with granite blocks and on the highway. Using correlation analysis, the dependence of the acceleration coefficient values and inertial forces affecting cargo during transport were verified. For the relevant axes (x – longitudinal and y – transverse), a very strong correlation was found.

A mathematical model able to evaluate water quality variations in complex hydraulic pressure systems has been developed. The model consists of a set of mass balance equations for tanks, pipes and nodes. It has been applied to predict chlorine concentration inside a case-study water network described in literature by using different expressions of chlorine decay coefficients, obtained in laboratory tests and expressed as a function of the residence time of water in pipes, the initial chlorine concentration, the history and temperature of water. The results showed little variations of the chlorine concentrations and the need to calibrate the parameters of chlorine decay coefficients expressions on full scale hydraulic systems.

Noise reduction coefficients have been around for decades. The use, and misuse, of the data supplied by these tests has been well-documented over that time. The desire by some to bring changes to standards like ASTM C423 and ISO 354 have been met with tremendous resistance by both manufacturers, laboratories and others over the years. This paper will discuss the use of these standards, what they tell us about sound and where they fall short in the assessment of the quality and assessment of sound absorption. Discussion of inappropriate use of standards in testing materials will also be presented. A discussion on the subject of timbre and how different materials may sound different while having similar NRC ratings will also be presented. The need for different test data and higher standards in the industry of acoustics will also be discussed. A presentation of the use of a free-field test method for assessing the quantity and quality of absorption will be presented along with test data from this method.

Reliable software is mandatory for complex mission-critical systems. Classifying modules as fault-prone, or not, is a valuable technique for guiding development processes, so that resources can be focused on those parts of a system that are most likely to have faults. Logistic regression offers advantages over other classification modeling techniques, such as interpretable coefficients. There are few prior applications of logistic regression to software quality models in the literature, and none that we know of account for prior probabilities and costs of misclassification. A contribution of this paper is the application of prior probabilities and costs of misclassification to a logistic regression-based classification rule for a software quality model. This paper also contributes an integrated method for using logistic regression in software quality modeling, including examples of how to interpret coefficients, how to use prior probabilities, and how to use costs of misclassifications. A case study of a major subsystem of a military, real-time system illustrates the techniques.

Aberrations and the image quality of holographic lenses were evaluated by a Hartmann–Shack (HS) wavefront sensor. Two lenses, one recorded with a symmetrical configuration and the other with an asymmetrical one, were stored in a photopolymer called Biophotopol. Each was reconstructed with two different wavelengths, 473 nm and 633 nm. Different metrics were applied to determine and quantify the aberration of the lenses (Zernike coefficients, Seidel coefficients, Marechal tolerances, root-mean-square (RMS), peak to valley, critical fraction of the pupil), and the quality of the image they provided (Strehl ratio, entropy, cutoff frequency, modulation transfer function (MTF), and area under the MTF). Good agreement between the metrics related to optical quality was obtained. The negative asymmetric holographic lenses had less aberration than the positive symmetric ones.

The present study investigated the effects of changes in landscape configuration on river water quality, which is calculated by chemical export coefficients, using spatial data onto 31 catchments in the southwestern part of the Caspian Sea basin by applying stepwise multivariate regression models. The water quality modeling has been carried out applying the chemical export coefficients of sulfate, bicarbonate, chlorine, calcium, magnesium, and sodium, and eight landscape metrics (including interspersion juxtaposition index, percentage of like adjacencies, aggregation index, clumpiness index, normalized landscape shape index, patch cohesion index, landscape division index, and splitting index), by which landscape configuration is analyzed. The results indicated that the sulfate (0.25 ± 0.33 gr ha−1yr−1), bicarbonate (0.61 ± 0.87 gr ha−1 yr−1), chlorine (0.17 ± 0.23 gr ha−1 yr−1), calcium (0.16 ± 0.21 gr ha−1 yr−1), magnesium (0.05 ± 0.07 gr ha−1 yr−1), and sodium (0.16 ± 0.21 gr ha−1 yr−1) are annually exported from the study catchments into the rivers. The change in landscape configuration has significantly explained the chemical export coefficients of sulfate, bicarbonate, chlorine, calcium, magnesium, and sodium. The findings showed the cohesion and coherence of the permanently irrigated land patches resulting in the discontinuity of the broad-leaved forest and grassland ecosystems degraded river water quality.

The yarn quality depends on many parameters: characteristics parameters, mechanical and physical properties. Making the hypothesis that the quality of the yarn is a multicriteria problem, in this paper, we propose a new method to determine the Quality Yarn Index QYI based on Analytic Hierarchy Process AHP and Fuzzy theory. A questionnaire was designed for experts of each field (weaving and knitting) to evaluate the relative importance for each property to determine coefficients of the AHP matrix. Results revealed that matrix coefficients changed with yarn application (weft or warp weaving and knitting) The QYI can be used in any application, where a rapid decision is needed, to evaluate the global quality of yarn and to make a comparison between different yarn qualities

Purpose – The purpose of the present study is to identify the determinants that potentially influence quality education in private universities in Bangladesh. Design/methodology/approach – To attain this objective, 234 data were collected through face-to-face interviews on campus during February-March 2013 from Bachelor of Business Administration students. The bootstrapping procedure through AMOS was applied to analyze the data apart from exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Findings – The bootstrap path coefficients suggest that seven factors are statistically significant among the eight postulated independent variables. The outcomes of the confirmatory factor analysis, such as factor loadings, eigenvalues and percentage of variance explained, as well as reliability coefficients, are observed to conform to the results of path analysis, such as item loadings and path coefficients, which consistently increased the robustness of the study. Practical implications – The overall results of the study would be beneficial to the planners to formulate the proper policy to ensure the quality excellence in the private higher educational institutes. Originality/value – The research is based on empirical evidence which deserves originality in terms of data and methods of analysis.

In order to effectively improve the quality of side information in distributed video coding, we propose a side information generation scheme based on a coefficient matrix improvement model. The discrete cosine transform coefficient bands of the Wyner–Ziv frame at the encoder side are divided into entropy coding coefficient bands and distributed video coding coefficient bands, and then the coefficients of entropy coding coefficient bands are sampled, which are divided into sampled coefficients and unsampled coefficients. For sampled coefficients, an adaptive arithmetic encoder is used for lossless compression. For unsampled coefficients and the coefficients of distributed video coding coefficient bands, the low density parity check accumulate encoder is used to calculate the parity bits, which are stored in the buffer and transmitted in small amount upon decoder request. At the decoder side, the optical flow method is used to generate the initial side information, and the initial side information is improved according to the sampled coefficients by using the coefficient matrix improvement model. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed side information generation scheme based on the coefficient matrix improvement model can effectively improve the quality of side information, and the quality of the generated side information is improved by about 0.2–0.4 dB, thereby improving the overall performance of the distributed video coding system.

Abstract Considering the global tendency in water saving, this research is focused on practical measurements of even distribution of water. The performance quality is determined by values of coefficients of distribution uniformity and non-uniformity given in percentages. Objects of investigation were belt irrigators with varying input conditions (seven pieces). Testing of hose-reel irrigators took place in Southern and Western Slovakia. Tests were carried out during irrigation of selected agricultural crops (potatoes, vegetables); in these areas, rainwater vessels were distributed at a spacing of 1 or 2 m, perpendicular to the direction of movement of the bracket or tripod with a gun sprinkler. The input conditions, such as machine specifications and weather conditions, were monitored and evaluated for all variants. The data were also analysed along with the linear model through statistical analysis software – one-way analysis of variance ANOVA. Considering the results, it is possible to conclude that there were recorded statistically significant differences for uniformity coefficients, depending not only on the site but also on the specific evaluation methodology (P > 0.05). If the input conditions (site, type of irrigator, sprinkler) were changed, the effect of dependence was demonstrated to a much greater extent (P <0.05, F = 7.08> Fcrit). The results of the non-uniformity coefficients confirmed the statistically significant differences not only in the sample sets of coefficients but also in the selection sets of conditions.

Image representation is an active area of research with increasing applications in military and defense. Image representation aims at representing an image with lesser number of coefficients than the actual image, without affecting the image quality. It is the first step in image compression. Once the image is represented by using some set of coefficients, it is further encoded using various compression algorithms. This paper proposes an adaptive method for image representation, which uses Complex Wavelet transform and the concept of phase congruency, where the number of coefficients used for image representation depends on the information content in the input image. The efficiency of the proposed method has been assessed by comparing the number of coefficients used to represent the image using the proposed method with that used when Complex Wavelet transform is used for image representation. The resultant image quality is determined by computing the PSNR values and Normalized Cross Correlation. Experiments carried out show highly promising results, in terms of the reduction in the number of coefficients used for image representation and the quality of the resultant image.

Mutation point feature of power quality (PQ) disturbance signals are very conducive to the wavelet-based detection and localization of PQ events, but the PQ signals are often disturbed by noise. In order to suppress noise and keep mutation points, an improved threshold function was proposed. According to the fact that the wavelet coefficients of signal and noise distributed on different scale, the threshold σj2lnk amended by to calculate threshold value for each scale adaptively. (k is the number of wavelet coefficients at level j). In simulation, four type of PQ signals and three degrading degrees are testing; meanwhile, four existing algorithm with wavelet shrinkage are performed for comparison. Results reveal that the proposed scheme not only suppresses noise of PQ signal well but also keeps the mutation points nicely.

The essence of the considered problem is to improve line scale gauge calibration quality by studying vibrations that are induced during the calibration process. To assess the influence of vibrations it is necessary to solve a lot of scientific and technical tasks. Serious difficulties were confronted during the mathematical analysis - development of analytical model and determination of its coefficients. The distribution of primary reflection coefficients can be estimated by means of the maximum entropy method, giving rise to smooth nonparametric functions which are consistent with the data. Instead of using classical moments (e.g. skewness and kurtosis) to constraint the maximization, nonconventional sample statistics help to improve the quality of the estimates. Results using real log data from various wells located in the Neuquen Basin (Argentina) show the effectiveness of the method to estimate both robust and consistent distributions that may be used to simulate realistic sequences.

This paper presents the results of an experimental study on condensation heat transfer of refrigerant blends R404A and R410A flowing through horizontal tubes of 9.4 and 6.2mm inner diameter at nominal pressures of 80% and 90% of the critical pressure. Local heat transfer coefficients were measured for the mass flux range 200<G<800kg∕m2‐s in small quality increments over the entire vapor-liquid region. Heat transfer coefficients increased with quality and mass flux, while the effect of reduced pressure was not very significant within this range of pressures. The heat transfer coefficients increased with a decrease in diameter.

It was confirmed in metabolic experiments with 4 individuals of roe deer (2 males and 2 females with the live weight of 20.8 and 17.9 kg, respectively) that due to the animals&rsquo; selective choice of a part of feeds there was no significant difference in the intake of lucerne hay of different quality and high-quality meadow hay (515.86 &plusmn; 66.97 and 597.82 &plusmn; 94.87 g, respectively). However, different quality of lucerne hay influenced the animals&rsquo; intake of crude protein and crude fibre. When the animals were fed meadow hay, they took in significantly less crude protein and fibre and significantly more nitrogen-free extract, fat and ash. Digestibility of crude protein was observed to be significantly decreased in hay of lower quality (by 10.1%). Digestibility coefficients for crude protein, crude fibre, organic matter and fat were significantly lower in grass hay compared to lucerne hay. Based on the coefficients of nutrient digestibility it can be stated that meadow hay, even if of excellent quality, is not a suitable supplement for the roe deer. &nbsp;

Introduction. A library of reusable information models of capital construction facilities (CCF), having different functional profiles, is to be established within the framework of the future institute of standardized design. The quality of these models determines the quality of the project documentation, which influences the quality of construction facilities. When the focus is placed on standardized design, the introduction of an assessment system turns all the more relevant, since the quality of one project will pre-determine the quality of numerous construction facilities built from one single design. Presently, the criteria, that determine the economically efficient reusability of the project documentation, are rather biased, and they need qualitative and quantitative assessment parameters. The purpose of this research is to develop a methodology for the comprehensive quality assessment of the project documentation and its approval as the documentation designated for economically efficient reuse. The attainment of this purpose requires the accomplishment of the following objectives: transformation and formalization of the requirements applicable to the assessment of the economic efficiency of the project documentation; identification of the relationship between the quality and economic efficiency of the project documentation; issuance of draft quality assessment criteria. Materials and methods. The quality of the project documentation is assessed with the help of an integrated quality indicator, based on a set of criteria and their weight coefficients. The expert evaluation method is used to identify the weight coefficients. Results. The case of a capital construction facility (a school building) was used to present the quality assessment criteria applicable to the project documentation. Three groups of quality indicators were considered. The expert evaluation method was applied to identify the weight coefficients for each criterion, and the quality assessment methodology was proposed. The methodology entails the calculation of a quality indicator, whose value serves as the basis for a decision to enter the project into the register of standardized projects. Conclusions. The co-authors have confirmed the need to transform and formalize the requirements applied to the assessment of the economic efficiency of the project documentation. They have proven that the multi-criterial project selection procedure will make the process of the project documentation quality assessment multilateral and less biased.

Abstract. We present a re-evaluation and quality control of spectral ultraviolet irradiance measurements from two Brewer spectroradiometers operating regularly at Thessaloniki, Greece. The calibration history of the two instruments was re-examined and data flaws were identified by comparing quasi synchronous measurements. Analysis of the sensitivity of both instruments to variations of their internal temperature revealed that they have temperature coefficients of different sign. These coefficients exhibit small variability during the 15-year period. Using averaged temperature coefficients, we corrected both datasets. Corrections were applied for the angular response error using two different approaches depending on the availability of required ancillary data. The uncertainties associated with the measurements have been estimated and presented. Finally, the two datasets are compared using ratios of irradiance integrals at various bands in the UV, in order to assess any dependencies on the internal instrument temperature, solar zenith angle and wavelength.

In this paper the important issue of multimedia quality evaluation is concerned, given the unimodal quality of audio and video. Firstly, the quality integration model recommended in G.1070 is evaluated using experimental results. Theoretical analyses aide empirical observations suggest that the constant coefficients used in the G.1070 model should actually be piecewise adjusted for different levels of audio and visual quality. Then a piecewise function is proposed to perform multimedia quality integration under different levels of the audio and visual quality. Performance gain observed from experimental results substantiates the effectiveness of the proposed model.

The main method of Infrared and TV image fusion is based on image transform and fusion rule selection. The study implies that the information quantity of Infrared and TV image has significant effect on the result of fusion. This paper proposes one fusion algorithm of infrared and TV image based on image quality evaluation method. The basic idea of the algorithm is that the whole image or the image areas which contains better quantity of information play a leading role in the fusion process. Firstly, algorithm performs the global quality evaluation of infrared image and TV image, and then selects the corresponding fusion strategy according to the quantity of information. The source image has been divided into the high frequency coefficients and low-frequency coefficients using wavelet transform. Second, algorithm selects the rule of coefficients fusion based on the relative image quality of local regions of the image. The algorithm of this paper avoids the interference of low quality image, makes full use of the area of higher information content and achieves the favorable consistency of the fused image. Experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm.

Timber owners in western Oregon have been concerned about the erosion of price premiums for higher quality grades of Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco) sawlogs over the past decade. Time series tests indicate that the ratio of 3Saw (lower quality) to 2Saw (higher quality) sawlog prices did rise over the 1990–2000 period, suggesting convergence between the prices. To identify causes of this trend, we estimate reduced form equations for Douglas-fir sawlog prices with time-varying coefficients using flexible least squares. Log grade prices were related to prices of lumber by grade, prices of chipped residues, labor wage rates, and volumes of public timber supplied. Changes in the relation of log grade prices are reflected through changes in both reduced form coefficients and levels of the exogenous variables. Changes in the coefficients, in turn, may derive from shifts in the distribution of log qualities within grade categories and from grade-specific changes in sawing and log production technologies. Coefficient trends showed that higher quality lumber grades became more important for 3Saw logs during the sample period, while lower quality lumber grades and chips became more important for 2Saw, moving the log grade prices closer together. Comparison of simulated 2Saw and 3Saw prices with and without historical time patterns in the exogenous variables had little impact on their relationship, suggesting that factors shifting the coefficients may have been the primary drivers of price convergence.

Background: In a single-ended speech quality evaluation, the measurement of Mean Opinion Score (MOS) is done objectively without the use of clean speech as a reference. In this work, multiple time-instances or multi-instances features using Multi-Resolution Auditory Model (MRAM) along with other relevant features such as Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC), and Line Spectral Frequencies (LSF) features are used for single-ended speech quality measurement. The Voice Activity Detection (VAD) algorithm separates the presence of speech-regions from silence in a speech signal. Methods: The multi-instances features are computed using MRAM, MFCC and LSF for different combinations of speech-regions to capture degradations due to multiple time-localized effects or the attacks of short-time transient distortions such as impulsive noise and their distinctions from plosive sounds in speech. These multi-instances features are used for Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) MAPPING to compute the objective MOS values, corresponding to all multi-instances features. Results: The overall objective MOS estimation of the speech signal is calculated by averaging all the values of objective MOS corresponding to the different multi-instances features of a speech signal. The results in terms of Pearson’s Correlation Coefficients (PCC) and root mean square error (RMSE) between the subjective MOS and the estimated overall objective MOS of speech signals are computed and compared with International Telecommunication Union-telephony (ITU-T) Recommendation P.563 and recently published works on similar types of databases. Conclusion: The improved values of PCC and RMSE between the subjective and the estimated overall objective MOS show the efficacy of the approach.

Medical ultrasound imaging has revolutioned the diagnostics of human body in the last few decades. The major drawback of ultrasound medical images is speckle noise. Speckle noise in ultrasound images is because of multiple reflections of ultrasound waves from hard tissues. Speckle noise degrades the medical ultrasound images lessening the visible quality of the image. The aim of this paper is to improve the image quality of ultrasound medical images by applying block based hard and soft thresholding on wavelet coefficients. Medical ultrasound image transformation to wavelet domain uses debauchee's mother wavelet. Divide the approximate and detailed coefficients into uniform blocks of size 8×8, 16×16, 32×32 and 64×64. Hard and soft thresholding on these blocks of approximate and detailed coefficients reduces speckle noise. Inverse transformation to original spatial domain produces a noise reduced ultrasound image. Experiments on medical ultrasound images obtained from diagnostic centers in Vijayawada, India show good improvements to ultrasound images visually. Quality of improved images in measured using peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR), image quality index (IQI), structural similarity index (SSIM).

In order to improve the fusion quality of multispectral (MS) and panchromatic (PAN) images, a pansharpening method with a gradient domain guided image filter (GIF) that is based on non-subsampled shearlet transform (NSST) is proposed. First, multi-scale decomposition of MS and PAN images is performed by NSST. Second, different fusion rules are designed for high- and low-frequency coefficients. A fusion rule that is based on morphological filter-based intensity modulation (MFIM) technology is proposed for the low-frequency coefficients, and the edge refinement is carried out based on a gradient domain GIF to obtain the fused low-frequency coefficients. For the high-frequency coefficients, a fusion rule based on an improved pulse coupled neural network (PCNN) is adopted. The gradient domain GIF optimizes the firing map of the PCNN model, and then the fusion decision map is calculated to guide the fusion of the high-frequency coefficients. Finally, the fused high- and low-frequency coefficients are reconstructed with inverse NSST to obtain the fusion image. The proposed method was tested using the WorldView-2 and QuickBird data sets; the subjective visual effects and objective evaluation demonstrate that the proposed method is superior to the state-of-the-art pansharpening methods, and it can efficiently improve the spatial quality and spectral maintenance.

In this paper, we analyze the noise quantization effects in coefficients of discrete wavelet transform (DWT) filter banks for image processing. We propose the implementation of the DWT method, making it possible to determine the effective bit-width of the filter banks coefficients at which the quantization noise does not significantly affect the image processing results according to the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). The dependence between the PSNR of the DWT image quality on the wavelet and the bit-width of the wavelet filter coefficients is analyzed. The formulas for determining the minimal bit-width of the filter coefficients at which the processed image achieves high quality (PSNR ≥ 40 dB) are given. The obtained theoretical results were confirmed through the simulation of DWT for a test image using the calculated bit-width values. All considered algorithms operate with fixed-point numbers, which simplifies their hardware implementation on modern devices: field-programmable gate array (FPGA), application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC), etc.

Heat transfer coefficients was experimentally determined for a horizontal micro-fin tube (2m in length, 11.44mm ID) with HC290-oil mixtures. The oil is Suniso 3GS, which is a widely used oil in refrigerant systems. The micro-fin tube is a internally enhanced tube, which has 60 fins with a height of 0.25mm and 20° spiral angle. The condensation temperatures varied from 40° to 45° and the refrigerant mass flux was varied from 40kg/(m2s) to 220kg/(m2s). The results showed that the mean condensation heat transfer coefficients on the test section (inlet vapor quality 1, outlet vapor quality 0.1~0.25) decreased as the oil concentrations were increased and the condensation temperature had negligible effect on the heat transfer coefficients.
