PurposeNew Public Management (NPM) has increased fragmentation in municipal health and social care organizations. In response, post-NPM reforms aim to enhance integration through service integration. Integration of municipal services is important for people with complex health and social challenges, such as concurrent substance abuse and mental health problems. This article explores the conditions for service integration in municipal health and social services by studying how public management values influence organizational and financial structures and professional practices.Design/methodology/approachThis is a case study with three Norwegian municipalities as case organizations. The study draws on observations of interprofessional and interagency meetings and in-depth interviews with professionals and managers. The empirical field is municipal services for people with concurrent substance abuse and mental health challenges. The data were analyzed both inductively and deductively.FindingsThe study reveals that opportunities to assess, allocate and deliver integrated services were limited due to organizational and financial structures as the most important aim was to meet the financial goals. The authors also find that economic and frugal values in NPM doctrines impede service integration. Municipalities with integrative values in organizational and financial structures and in professional approaches have greater opportunities to succeed in integrating services.Originality/valueApplying a public management value perspective, this study finds that the values on which organizational and financial structures and professional practices are based are decisive in enabling and constraining service integration.

It is substantiated that one of the effective ways to improve the quality of education is interdisciplinary integration. The interdisciplinary approach based on the new educational standards presupposes, first of all, the ability of the medical education seeker to solve problems and take responsibility; act in an unstable context; motivation of students to study a certain discipline, thorough understanding and comparison; application of the acquired knowledge in practice; broadening the horizons, increasing the independence and creativity of future medical professionals; integration of the acquired knowledge, skills and abilities into one whole and perception of the material mastered during all training as inseparable unity. Methodological aspects of training a future medical specialist in the system of higher professional education in the conditions of interdisciplinary integration are considered. The main directions of improving the professional training of medical students on the basis of integration of different approaches are identified. The importance of applying interdisciplinary integration in the training of future medical professionals on the example of a combination of clinical, bioethical and legal knowledge is substantiated. The issue of application of interdisciplinary integration in the training of medical students is covered. The factors of optimization of the process of training future medical specialists on the basis of interdisciplinary connections are considered. It is shown that the application of interdisciplinary integrative technologies provides grounds for the formation and development of future medical professionals in the field of analytical and critical thinking, which is the key to improving the quality of medical education. It is proved that the professional training of future specialists in the medical field is in dynamic development, which is due to the priority of improving the quality of medical education. It was found that the effectiveness of the integration approach in the training of future medical professionals, in order to improve the quality of their education, requires improvement of the methodological concept in the development of educational and methodological complex of professional training on the basis of interdisciplinary integration. This can be ensured by taking into account the following factors: social demands for professional activity; the specifics of training at clinical departments and the peculiarities of mastering non-core disciplines; providing scientific, informational and methodological support of the educational process; formation and development of future medical professionals of analytical and critical types of thinking. The proposed will ensure high-quality readiness of future medical professionals for their professional activities.

The article presents a study of the problems of integrating Federal state and professional standards in the training of specialists with secondary vocational education institutions. Federal state standard of new generation set up for the teachers of special disciplines of secondary vocational education institutions the problem of creating conditions to ensure the implementation of standard requirements to results of education, and the formation of professional competencies with the purpose of achievement of the standard of professional education. The process of implementing these requirements is complicated by the diff erent approaches to FSS and professional standard. The study is based on a practical methodology that focuses on solving practical problems and purposeful transformation of vocational training programmes, to ensure integration of FSS and professional standards in the training of specialists. The article provides an example of integration of requirements of the FSS and professional standards on the basis of professional educational organizations. The results consist in the description of the experience of the competence approach to organization of educational process, integration of standards by the example of one educational institution. This experience is applicable in any professional educational organization, regardless of the provisioning profile. The authors observed the diff erential nature of the main types of professional competencies of the FSS and the integrative nature of job functions of the professional standard, the necessity of designing professional modules having leading nature. The article describes the experience of integrating the standards applicable in any professional educational organization, regardless of the provisioning profile.

Integrating health and social care has been a major objective of recent policy reforms in Italy. Integration has been implemented on three levels, namely institutional, organizational and professional. At the professional level multiprofessional teams have been created or adapted (if existing) in several areas, including among others, care of the elderly, the disabled and the addicted. This article discusses the findings of an empirical study based on 57 interviews with managers and members of community-based, multiprofessional teams in the Turin area, Italy. The topics addressed include the effects of integration on the traditionally dominant role of the medical profession, on relationships between professionals and managers and on work organization and interprofessional strains. The findings point to a more balanced role of medicine and other professions than before the policy reforms, and to a reconsideration of the managerialism–professionalism dichotomy, since professionals tend to capture managerial work and co-opt it into a new professionalism.

Leadership has an important role in the educational institutions. The increasing number of implementation models of integrative Islamic education institutions demand greater competence of the leaders in order to perform their duties effectively. The most complex integrative Islamic educational institution model is developed based on boarding school by integrating formal and nonformal education as well as cross ladder as developed by Al Mukmin Islamic Boarding School (PPIM) Ngruki and modern boarding schools in general. The result of this study shows that the effective leadership model of an integrative Islamic educational institution is a democratic-transformational model. This model needs the institutional leaders to have professional, personal, social, and spiritual competences. The integration of the educational institutions management should be done thoroughly starting from the integration of curriculum management, human resources, infrastructure, financing, public relations and marketing, and other aspects.

PurposeIntegrated healthcare is a central tenant of the NHS Long Term Plan (NHS, 2019). NICE in 2019 published guidelines; advising the integration of multidisciplinary professionals which may lead to an improvement in conservative treatment methods of pelvic organ prolapse. Therefore, current literature on the conservative treatments for pelvic organ prolapse needs to be reviewed to ascertain if an integrated approach would improve the symptoms and quality of life for women.Design/methodology/approachA systematic review of the literature between 2013 and 2018 was implemented. Papers included were written in English, peer-reviewed and consisted of treatments of pelvic organ prolapse in women. Papers containing surgical interventions, postpartum participants, reviews, evaluations, guidelines, follow-up studies, focusing on cost effectiveness, sexual function were excluded.FindingsSeven studies in total were included, and two overarching themes were identified: quality of life after treatment and the effect of conservative treatment on pelvic organ prolapse symptoms. The literature suggested that integrating care had a more positive outcome on pelvic organ symptoms and quality of life.Research limitations/implicationsTo develop a robust enhanced model of care for conservative treatment of pelvic organ prolapse through more mixed method or qualitative research, that incorporates integrative treatment methods with collaboration from multidisciplinary professionals.Practical implicationsThe practical implications of integrating the conservative management of pelvic organ prolapse is the communication between the multidisciplinary team must be exceptional to ensure everyone understands and agrees the treatment that is being provided to patient. Also, effective teamwork is important to ensure the patient receives the best care with input from the correct disciplines. The multi-professional team will need to have regular meetings to discuss and implement care plans for patients that might prove difficult to schedule due to differing commitments and priorities. This must be overcome to insure a successful and effective integrated approach to pelvic organ prolapse is delivered.Social implicationsThe social implications of integrating the professional approach to women's care of pelvic organ prolapse involves reducing the severity of the symptoms therefore, increasing the quality of life. This may result in the reduction of surgical intervention due to the patient being satisfied with the conservative management. Through integrating the management of the prolapse the patient will receive an accessible individualised care plan pathway that focuses on treating or reducing the impact of the symptoms that are bothersome to the patient whilst managing patient expectations. Patients will also, be reassured by the number of multi-disciplinary professionals involved in their care.Originality/valueGlobal integration of conservative treatments and multidisciplinary-professionals specialising in pelvic organ prolapse and pelvic floor dysfunction is needed.

The parents of 14 students with disabilities participated in interviews to evaluate the support they received during their child's transition to an integrated educational placement, to explore their concerns, and to discuss the effects of integration. Although parents identified areas of concern, they consistently expressed satisfaction regarding the outcomes of integrating their child, including professional and personal support. Responses emphasized the importance of commitment from local school districts and professionals, an individualized approach to parent involvement, and ongoing communication with parents.

The article considers the way of integrating Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) into the educational process and determining their role in students’ motivation to learn a foreign language for professional purposes. The goal of the research is studying the efficiency of implementation of MOOCs as part of students’ independent work while learning a foreign language for professional purposes at the university. Considering the increasing need for education around the world, the role of MOOCs will become more important than ever before. Consequently, engaging students whose major is Information Technology in learning the integrating course could enhance their skill and knowledge of programming. The integration of MOOCs in the process of learning English for professional purposes will help to personalize learning environments and prepare future professionals. Research shows that the successful implementation of MOOCs can bring new opportunities to learners, such as increasing English proficiency level, developing critical thinking, decision-making, problem-solving and time management. We consider the scientific problem connected with the efficiency of using Internet resources and MOOCs, ways of using interactive online technologies in the traditional educational process, potential and identified new opportunities offered by e-learning. Our observations are also related to the problem of integrating MOOCs into the curriculum; adapting them to the thematic modules and different subjects. Research shows that successful integration of MOOCs in the process of learning a foreign language for professional purposes depends on a number of factors. Each stage of our research has been carefully considered in the article. This study shows the efficiency of MOOCs as additional resources in studying English for professional purposes and describes the use of information and communication technology of distance learning in the traditional educational process. In this article, we describe how this idea is being realized and can be adopted by universities willing to use benefits of MOOCs in teaching English for professional purposes.

Abstract The pre-professional training of students in children’s art schoolsrequires the development of a new methodology and content basis. This article examines the notion of the pre-professional development of graphical skills as a fundamental element of artistic training that includes Four components (cognition, knowledge, practice and motivation) and it is performed step-by-step. The application of an integrative approach is viewed as an effective means of the pre-professional development of teenagers’ graphical skills. The study describes the principle of integration applied for the artistic acquisition of the world. This integration approach has formed the base for the author’s original course, “Computer and Graphical Art” which was implemented at the experimental stage of this study. The diagnostics of the pre-professional development of graphical skills among teenagers in the experimental group demonstrated the effectiveness of the integrative approach. The research methods included observations, a survey, test, and expert evaluation. The article discusses details of teenagers’ graphical skills development within the integrative approach and experimentally proves the effectiveness of author’s original academic program. Current evidence of the effectiveness of multi-disciplinary co-location for healthcare integration is mixed. This case study investigates a territorial healthcare project that is implemented across four French rural healthcare practices that co-locate multi-disciplinary healthcare practitioners. Two levels of collaboration were identified: (i) local, intra-team collaboration (i.e., care and prevention) and (ii) territorial, inter-team collaboration (i.e., patient therapeutic education and knowledge sharing). An analysis of 50 interviews with healthcare professionals uncovers important aspects of successful multi-disciplinary collaboration, which is an intermediary between co-location and care integration. By highlighting the social dimension of care integration, with a specific focus on the professional component of interpersonal integration, this study expands the theory of care integration by identifying three antecedents of multi-disciplinary collaboration: (i) prior general practitioner joint-practice experience, (ii) professional impetus (i.e., initiated by practitioners) and (iii) general practitioner peer group membership. Successful multi-disciplinary co-location and, in turn, collaboration offer a range of benefits to both patients and practitioners and advance progress towards promising perspectives, such as local competence transfer and territorial contagion.

The article deals with the integrative and differentiated nature of the discipline Latin in the paradigm of education of philologists – specialists in Romance and Germanic languages. It is proved that Latin, integrating with a number of disciplines of professional training of philologists in the context of philological education, contributes to the theoretical training of linguists. At the same time, it is determined that the course of Latin should clearly meet the needs of future professionals, and thus take into account their professional orientation. Therefore, there is a need to differentiate the content of education depending on the specialty of philology students.

Humankind has always known about the usefulness in integration of animals for the achievement of such routine goals as hunting, household and territory protection, transportation, scouting foreign territories and materials, and overcoming physical limitations. Animals are also highly valued as agents of socialisation resulting in the integration of various species in the work of various professions. Social work also increasingly makes use of professional activities involving animals while working with clients. Terms such as therapy animals, animal-assisted therapy, animal-assisted activities, and animal-assisted education are becoming more relevant in the daily work of social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychotherapists and other professionals. Animals are more and more often found in hospitals, schools, care facilities, prisons and other settings. Animal-assisted therapy is a general term including various activities, causing difficulty to understand and differentiate between the types of therapy performed with various animal species, which creates the need to study the experience in ensuring work with therapy animals in various settings. The results obtained in this study reflect the experiences working with therapy animals of various professionals including the goal of integrating therapy animals in professional activity, the goal of the activity and the steps thereof, target groups and the expected results.

The article highlights the technology aimed at developing future choir conductors’ professional competences from the standpoint of the system-integrative approach in accordance with the requirements of new standards of higher education for bachelor students majoring in 025 "Musical Arts" in higher educational establishments. It determines the essence of the concepts "system" and "integration" in the context of higher school musical pedagogy as well as characterises the essence of implementation of the system-integrative approach in the process of conductorial-choral training by introducing into the educational process a specific pedagogical model which contains the components as follows: interdisciplinary-cognitive integration, methodical-operational integration, profession- and competence-based integration. It is established that the interdisciplinary-cognitive integration is a synthesis of knowledge units comprehended within special disciplines during the conductorial-choral training which form a new structural and substantive level of each separate discipline in the process of synthesis. It is noted that the methodological-operational integration acts at the intersection of a number of specific field methods dealing with the conductorial-choral disciplines and, as a result of polymodal accumulation of techniques, appears in the form of established professional methodological competences to be generalised, analysed and evaluated; they are based on their methodological knowledge and understanding of their further usage in the process of professional creativity. It is determined that the professional-competence integration is a strategic goal and the final result of the process of conductorial-choral training of the future bachelors: separate professional competences of the future choral conductors are integrated subsystems that jointly form a higher order system − the professional image of a choir conductor. The article systematises and organises professional competences of a future choir conductor, which are formed as a result of the proposed technology of their development on the basis of the system-integrative approach, and are considered as unconditional priorities of choral conductor's professionalism in the course of the polymorphic choir managerial and conductorial-pedagogical activities.

Objectives: This study aims at identifying profiles of mental health professionals based on individual, interactional, structural and professional role characteristics related to interprofessional collaboration. Methods: Mental health professionals ( N = 315) working in primary health care and specialized mental health teams in four Quebec local service networks completed a self-administered questionnaire eliciting information on individual, interactional, structural and professional role characteristics. Results: Cluster analysis identified four profiles of mental health professionals. Those with the highest interprofessional collaboration scores comprised two profiles labeled “highly collaborative female professionals with fewer conflicts and more knowledge sharing and integration” and “highly collaborative male professionals with fewer conflicts, more participation in decision-making and mutual trust.” By contrast, the profile labeled “slightly collaborative professionals with high seniority, many conflicts and less knowledge integration and mutual trust” had the lowest interprofessional collaboration score. Another profile positioned between these groups was identified as “moderately collaborative female psychosocial professionals with less participation in decision-making.” Discussion and conclusion: Organizational support, participation in decision-making, knowledge sharing, knowledge integration, mutual trust, affective commitment toward the team, professional diversity and belief in the benefits of interdisciplinary collaboration were features associated with profiles where perceived interprofessional collaboration was higher. These team qualities should be strongly encouraged by mental health managers for improving interprofessional collaboration. Training is also needed to promote improvement in interprofessional collaboration competencies.

The article captures up to date issues of music education of the secondary professional educational organizations. The complexity and at the same time uniqueness of the music teacher/music director professions are noted, the problem of decrease of applicants' educational background is described. Interviews with teachers of subject-cycle commissions and content analysis of educational and methodological documentation on the disciplines included in the music-theoretical training and interdisciplinary courses from the professional module PM.03 Pedagogical musical and performing activities among educational institutions of the Volga Federal District, confirming the need for transforming the educational process by creating an integrative model of musical and theoretical training were conducted. Scientific research in the field of pedagogical integration is analyzed, it is determined that integration in pedagogy is not only a process and result, but also the principle of development of its theory and practice. As a result of pedagogical integration the integrative thinking is defined. Based on the obtained knowledge the methodological basis for the design of an integrative model was formed. The leading approach to modeling of professional musical-theoretical training of students is the integrative one, which ensures the integrity of professional formation of specialists and is manifested in the extent of integrative thinking, the growth of systematic knowledge, complexity of skills, willingness for self-actualization and self-development. The design of the model of musical-theoretical training is carried out taking into account the implementation of integrative processes at four levels: inter-subject, intra-subject, interpersonal and intrapersonal. The leading principle of modeling the content of musical and theoretical training of students is the principle of integration, which ensures the effective achievement of the goals of the educational process by forming a holistic view of the musical art. To implement this principle, the following tasks are solved: the object of integration is defined, factors that contribute and do not contribute to the integration of the designated objects are identified, and the expected result is defined. According to the results of the functioning of the model, students have developed skills of integrative thinking, performing and pedagogical skills, increased interest and activity in the learning process and the emergence of emotional and value orientations. The article proves the need to use an integrative model of musical-theoretical training of students of a pedagogical college.

Contemporary mental health professionals exhibit interest in integrating spirituality into the services they provide to clients. This clinical integration raises questions about both the goals of mental health services and the professional relevance of mental health providers’ spiritual competency. Drawing on the Christian anthropology of St. Thomas Aquinas, Benedict Ashley’s approach to psychotherapy differentiates psychopharmacological, psychotherapeutic, and spiritual approaches on the basis of the different domains of a client’s personality. These domains are the focus of different professions, and Ashley’s account suggests that mental health providers who lack additional spiritual-moral training should adopt a clinical model that recognizes their work is spiritually oriented but not spiritually directive.

The strategic objectives of trilingual education in Kazakhstan have actualized the need to prepare students of pedagogical specialties to use English in their professional activities in the context of modernization of educa-tion in the Republic of Kazakhstan. On the basis of the research carried out, the authors of the article present their vision of the success of this process, which, in their opinion, lies in the careful selection of pedagogical conditions, one of which is interdisciplinary integration, as a tool that contributes to the integrated educational and methodological support of the process of teaching professionally oriented English with taking into ac-count the specifics of the specialty. A consistent transition between disciplines will contribute to the for-mation of a consistency of knowledge based on the development of general scientific ideas and concepts, the improvement of professionally oriented knowledge and skills of students, coordination in the work of teach-ers of various disciplines, their cooperation, a unified interpretation of general scientific concepts, consistency in the implementation of complex forms of organizing the educational process, integrated educational and methodological support of the process of teaching professionally oriented English, taking into account the specifics of the specialty.

PurposeEmergency care delivery is a process requiring input from various healthcare professionals within the hospital. To deliver efficient and effective emergency care, professionals must integrate rapidly at multiple interfaces, working across functional, spatial and professional boundaries. Yet, the interdisciplinary nature of emergency care presents a challenge to the optimization of patient flow, as specialization and functional differentiation restrict integration efforts. This study aims to question what boundaries exist at the level of professionals and explores how these boundaries may come to influence integration and operational performance.Design/methodology/approachTo provide a more holistic understanding of the inherent challenges to integration at the level of professionals and in contexts where professionals play a key role in determining operational performance, the authors carried out an in-depth case study at a busy, Level 1 trauma center in The Netherlands. In total, 28 interviews were conducted over an 18-month period.FindingsThe authors reveal the existence of structural, relational and cultural barriers between (medical) professionals from different disciplines. The study findings demonstrate how relational and cultural boundaries between professionals interrupt flows and delay service processes.Originality/valueThis study highlights the importance of interpersonal and cultural dynamics for internal integration and operational performance in emergency care processes. The authors unveil how the presence of professional boundaries creates opportunity for conflict and delays at important interfaces within the emergency care process, and can ultimately accumulate, disrupting patient flow and increasing lead times.

The problem of technological universities lagging behind the level of development of the IT-industry can be solved only on condition that technological IT companies actively participate in training of future IT-professionals. Only cooperation between IT-companies and IT-faculties can provide effective training of future IT-professionals. Universities require access to new technologies in order to support students and teachers of STEM-faculties, so that they would keep up with the level of technology development. The article analyzes the trends of cooperation between universities and IT companies. For example, the integration of Microsoft resources and services into the University e-learning environment identified the impact of using appropriate resources for the development of professional skills and “soft skills”. The present article suggests a model of integrating Microsoft resources and services into the e-learning environment.

This study explored the theme “social media integration into contemporary human resource management: a qualitative approach.” The study was guided by three research objectives which are;to determine whether human resource managers integrate social media in their practices; to ascertain the benefit of integrating social media into human resource management and to determine challenges associated with the integration of social media into human resource management. The study was built on the Theory of Creative Destruction and the population of the study comprised of human resource managers and academicians within Yola metropolis. The study adopted dual research methods which are the in-depth interview and integrative literature review design. The researcher interviewed human resources managers and academicians that specialized in human resource management until the results reachedsaturation point. Findings revealed that human resource managers have incorporated social media into contemporary human resource management. It was also found that social media platforms offer lots of benefits to human resource managers in their professional practices. However, it was unraveled that there are quit a several disadvantages associated with the integration of social media into contemporary human resource management even though the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Therefore, it was recommended among other things that there is the need for managers of human resources to be aware of the right limits and boundaries when it comes to using social media for their professional practices.

Purpose Severe mental illness affects a significant number of people and, if left untreated, leads to poor quality of life and disability. Many of the aspirations proposed for new models of care assert that better preventative services, closer integration between professionals, and increased access to cognitive behavioural therapy in primary care will bring substantial benefits and improved outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to explore the benefits of integrating mental health services into primary care, and improving collaboration between secondary services and primary care. There is a transition underway in healthcare whereby a focus on illness is being supplemented with, or refocused towards achieving better patient well-being. New approaches to service provision are being proposed that: focuses on more holistic outcomes; integrates services around the user; and employs innovative system techniques to incentivise professional and organisational collaboration. Such a transition must be inclusive of those with mental health needs managed in primary care and for those people with serious mental illness in secondary care. Design/methodology/approach This paper discusses the issues of professional collaboration and the need to provide mental healthcare in a continuous and coordinated manner and; how this may improve timely access to treatment, early diagnosis and intervention. Importantly, it is essential to consider the limitations and reality of recent integration initiatives, and to consider where the true benefit of better integrating mental health into a more collaborative system may lie. Findings Identifying and addressing issues of parity is likely to call for a new approach to service provision that: focuses on outcomes; co-designs services integrated around the user; and employs innovative contracting techniques to incentivise provider integration. Practical implications There is a transition underway in healthcare whereby a focus on illness is being supplemented with or refocused towards working towards wellness. Such a transition requires primary care mental health services to be provided in a continuous and coordinated manner in order to meet the health needs of people with serious mental illness. Originality/value It discusses the issues of professional collaboration and how this may improve timely access to treatment, early diagnosis and intervention. It is essential to consider the limitations and reality of recent integration initiatives, and to consider where the true benefit may lie.

Technology leadership is being redesigned to accelerate technology integration in schools to develop and sustain the skills needed to produce skilled manpower. Previous studies showed that the factors that prevented leaders and teachers from integrating information and communication technologies (ICT) in schools are lack of ICT training, teacher ICT competency, and access to ICT resources. This shows that there is a gap in technology integration in schools. This study aims to identify the importance of technology leadership for technology integration based on gender and professional development. This is a quantitative study using cross-sectional design. A total of 90 respondents were selected by systematic random sampling from 190 national secondary schools. The importance and performance matrix analysis revealed that professional development had high performance and was an important variable in the prediction of teachers’ technology integration, but gender was not. Thus, school management should give priority to digital age learning culture and digital citizenship constructs to accelerate teachers’ technology integration in schools.

We are conducting a multicentre, mixed methods study to examine the attitudes of health professionals to e-health in order to identify strategies to support increased uptake and utilization of e-health services. The first part of the work is a systematic literature review. After searching five electronic databases, a total of 66 review papers were identified which concerned barriers and facilitators to the implementation of e-health. Examination of the main themes from these reviews identified three major types of barriers/facilitators: (1) technology design factors, (2) health professional interactions, and (3) organizational factors. The utilization of e-health technologies by health-care professionals is complex, as demonstrated by the preliminary findings of the literature review.

To understand the relationship between health professionals in an intensive care unit, to explore the inter-professional collaboration. Methods: it is a qualitative study, inspired by the Hermeneutics Phenomenology of Paul Ricoeur, for the production of knowledge. Interviews were conducted with 36 intensive care professionals of a tertiary public hospital. Results: the professionals are satisfied with the work, and there is a commitment to provide quality care despite organizational boundaries such as precarious employment relationships and turnover of professionals. The inter-professional collaboration is an indispensable factor for assistance, but in practice is not effective most of the times by the absence of provisions for the integration of the team, leadership presence, as well as the overcrowding of services that overwhelm health workers. Conclusion: while recognizing the need for inter-professional collaboration, professionals do their work even in a very individualized way, with no strategies to boost this cooperation.

In both national and international circles, environmental policy makers are repeatedly faced with the challenges posed by scientific, institutional and administrative fragmentation and complexity. Within this context, appraisal – of policies, programmes and projects – has been repeatedly advocated as a key integration tool that can help policy makers navigate such fragmentation and complexity by better integrating environmental concerns into decision making. In this paper, we examine the challenges that are posed for integrative governance, defined as the theories and practices that focus on the relationships between policy instruments and/or governance systems, from the perspective of efforts to integrate environmental considerations into all sectors of decision making via appraisal. Drawing on institutional theory, we explore the cross-sectoral and multi-level institutional challenges surrounding the integration of environmental considerations across different levels of appraisal. We do so by examining appraisal in the European Commission, and at the national, regional and local level in the UK. We argue that conflicts between different ‘logics of integration’ – or disintegration – routinely hamper the integration of environmental concerns between governance levels and across governance sectors. These logics include differences between appraisal systems; between appraising in theory and in practice; between different sectors and between the fragmented professional logics of different policy actors.

Background Presently, models of professional development aimed at supporting teachers’ technology integration efforts are often short and decontextualized. With many schools across the country utilizing standards that require students to engage with digital tools, a situative model that supports building teachers’ knowledge within their classrooms is needed. Purpose of Study The purpose of this study was to examine how teachers’ instructional planning and delivery, as well as their perceptions of their proficiency with technology integration, changed when they participated in a model of technology-focused professional development titled the Technology Integration Planning Cycle Model of Professional Development. The researchers also examined the relationship between students’ (N = 1,335) digital literacy skills and teachers’ participation in the Technology Integration Planning Cycle Model of Professional Development. Program The TIPC Model of PD comprised whole-group professional development sessions, long-range planning, access to instructional coaches, professional learning communities, digital tool resources, observations with reflections, and a comprehensive project website. Research Design This mixed-methods study combined numerous quantitative and qualitative data sources and data analysis techniques to answer the research questions. Pre- and posttest comparisons were used to examine changes in students’ digital literacy skills and changes in teachers’ perceptions of their pedagogical expertise for integrating digital technology. Daily diaries, classroom observations, interviews, and field notes were analyzed to understand the role of the professional development in teachers’ instructional planning and their perceptions of their proficiency. Findings Results indicate that students in classrooms with participant teachers performed significantly better on a digital literacy assessment, the Survey of Internet Use and Online Reading, than did control group students. Selective exposure to digital tools, professional learning communities, and opportunities for reflection were the most transformative elements of this model for teachers. Teachers were better prepared to envision their roles in the classroom and the purposes for integrating technology because of the TIPC framework. Conclusions The results of this study provide important implications for professional development, particularly in regard to (1) providing a model in which to ground discussion and application of technology integration; (2) situating digital tools within context-driven instruction; and (3) using multiple modes of teacher engagement.

Purpose – The search for a more sustainable society depends on more sustainable organisations and, as such, Production (Industrial) Engineering may contribute to this process through the training of professionals with a greater social and environmental consciousness. The purpose of this paper is to present arguments in favour of the integration of Production Engineering and the Millennium Development Goals and evaluate the potential of Production Engineering subareas in contributing to the Millennium Development Goals. Design/methodology/approach – This work is conceptual and integrative in order to provide an original framework. A Brazilian perspective on Production Engineering has been adopted. Findings – A framework is proposed to guide this integration process by providing suggestions for an agenda of opportunities for academics and practitioners in favour of a more sustainable society. Originality/value – This work presents a new framework integrating Production Engineering and the Millennium Development Goals in order to promote a more sustainable training in Production (Industrial) Engineering field of research.

Patient-controlled admissions (PCAs) enable mental health patients by means of a contract to initiate an admission at a mental health hospital unit without using traditional admission procedures. This study was part of a 3-year Danish multicenter project, and we explored how mental health professionals experienced and managed the implementation of a PCA program. The methodology was grounded theory and the sample included 26 participants. We performed a constant comparative analysis to explore the concerns, attitudes, and strategies of mental health professionals. We developed a model of how the mental health professionals strived to integrate PCA into clinical practice. The process was motivated by the idea of establishing a partnership with patients and involved two interrelated strategies to manage (a) the patient-related duties and (b) the admission contracts. The professionals moved from a phase of professional discomfort to a phase of professional awareness, and ended up with professional comprehension.

The article presents the results of research, concerning interdependence of inclusive education and inclusive environment, which serves as the basis of social inclusion of all levels and directions. The necessity of strengthening integration processes within the framework of modern standards of inclusive professional education, the need to form a specialist capable to form an adequate inclusive environment is substantiated. In the article it offers approaches as to determining the basics for ensuring the interdependence of the processes of developing the inclusive education and inclusive social environment, the essence of integration processes in the modernization of content and technological support for training the specialists in this field. The methods of scientific research, dominated by theoretical, made it possible to: a) systematize the priorities of research to optimize integrative processes in the field of inclusive education and inclusive social environment based on the analysis of scientific papers on this issue; b) highlight contradictions between the traditional system of professional education and modern challenges related to the readiness of professionals to form a socially directed environment, as well as a set of dependencies, taking into account which it will be possible to optimize these integration processes; c) it is substantiated the theoretical and practical approach to modifying the system of future inclusive education specialists’ professional training, their mastery of innovative practices and their own experience of creating an adequate inclusive environment not only in the educational institution but also outside; d) emphasis is placed on different levels of environments, the importance of ensuring their interdependence through constructive forms of interaction. The process of ensuring interdependence of developing the inclusive education, inclusive environment is complicated and poly functional. It mostly depends upon modernizing the conception and program of training the future specialists in this sphere.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are necessary to improve an enterprise's management performance. However, the perception of information technology (IT) professionals about the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning with ERP cloud service platforms is unknown. Few studies have examined how leaders can implement AI for strategic management, but no study has qualitatively explored AIs integration in the cloud ERP system. This qualitative phenomenological study explored IT professionals’ perceptions regarding the integration of AI and Supervised-machine (S-machine) learning into cloud service platforms in the enhancement of the cloud ERP system. Two research questions were developed for this study: 1) What are the perceptions of IT professionals regarding the use of an AI model to integrate SaaS and ERP? and 2) What are the perceptions of IT professionals regarding how AI can be integrated in order to enhance the security of using an ERP cloud-based system? Through a hermeneutical lens and a focus on integrating the Application Programming Interface (API), purposive sampling was used to interview five AI experts, three Machine Learning (ML) experts, five Cybersecurity experts, and two Cloud Service Providers provided their lived experiences with AI and S-machine learning. Five main themes emerged, including 1) use of an AI model to integrate SaaS and ERP helped perform work efficiently, 2) challenges for integrating AI into cloud service ERP and SaaS, 3) resources needed to fully implement an AI into cloud-service ERP or SaaS, 4) the best practices for developing and implementing an AI model for ERP and SaaS, and 5) how security of an ERP clouds-based system is optimized by integrating AI. The culmination of these findings has positive implications for individuals and organizations to improve management performance. While this study does not proposal a new theory, this study extends current literature on the application of theories related to technology integration.

The article focuses on the problem of the education and production relationship with the consideration of the essence of the professional training of future engineers-teachers of economic profile. In order to form a competent engineer-teacher of economic profile, it is necessary to use the potential embodied in such forms of integration of the «education-science-production» system as the dual purposeful future engineers-teachers training. The purpose of the article is to theoretically substantiate the main trends in the formation of future engineers-teachers of economic profile. Manufacturing practices are the important component of the interaction between higher education institutions and production. The leading approach to organizing and conducting industrial practices of future engineers-teachers of economic profile in the research and production complex is the integration of students’ theoretical, professional, practical, educational and research activities. It has been determined that the integrative nature of all stages of students’ industrial practice should be ensured by implementation of a number of basic principles in the educational process, including: the connection between education and life; compliance with the content and organization of the educational process production requirements to the educational institution and future specialists; systematic, continuity, complication of the goals and objectives set from the course to the course; the complex nature of pedagogical influence, which involves the unity of professional and personal development of students. The author’s research suggests that the interaction of professional education with production should be carried out in positions of an integrative approach, which ensures the common purpose, commonality of content, community of activities, the common values of education and production. The author proposed the structure of continuous education (educational cluster) of engineers-teachers of economic profile at the pedagogical university. The author’s conclusion is that an important aspect of the formation of future professionals professional culture is the use of new educational learning technologies in the field of interactive communication between teacher and student; it lies in individual work with the student, which reveals their creative potential, opportunities for self-replenishment of knowledge, ability to work with scientific materials, using modern educational technologies and appropriate tools. Moreover an integral part of the engineering and pedagogical training expansion and the formation of professional culture of future engineers-teachers of economic profile are training and industrial practices.

This study evaluated the Madaris curriculum integration for Muslim primary education in Mindanao. It assessed the psychological effects of such integration on teachers and students in Arabic writing and reading, religiosity, Islamic values, and teacher professional development. This qualitative and quantitative research used a descriptive-evaluative design. The purposive sampling method was used to collect data using a questionnaire which was analyzed statistically. This study showed that the psychological effects of integrating teachers and students to Arabic writing and reading, religiosity, Islamic values, and teacher professional development worked well. Both teachers and students demonstrated the ability to write and read Arabic, values about God, Islam, people, the nation, and the environment.

Abstract The central objective of early prevention in Germany is an improved cooperation between professional groups of the health services and child and youth welfare in interprofessional networks. This objective derives from the realisation that proper care for families with infants can only be achieved if the various groups act in close integration. The ‘Federal Initiative early prevention’ explicitly calls for freelance midwives to be integrated in this context. However, only a few scientific findings on midwives’ cooperation in networks of early prevention have been published to date. This integrative review aims to identify the central themes of interprofessional cooperation of midwives in out-of-hospital obstetrical care from national and international research literature. A systematic search of five research databases for publications between 2005 and 2015 was performed, complemented by a manual search. 25 studies were identified describing various contexts where midwives in out-of-hospital obstetrical care cooperate with other professional groups. Four key themes were analysed: contexts of cooperation, benefits of cooperation, facilitating and restrictive factors of cooperation, and competencies of cooperation. The studies show that there is only limited research coverage of the midwives’ perspective regarding interprofessional cooperation. The existing studies examine the cooperation of midwives primarily with health care professionals, and secondarily with professionals in the social services. In order to expand knowledge on the cooperation of freelance midwives in the networks of early prevention, future research should focus on the perspective of midwives regarding cooperation with other professional groups, both in the health care sector and in the field of social services.

Objetivo: revisar pesquisas brasileiras, identificando os tipos de violência obstétrica, possíveis causas observadas e o papel do enfermeiro nesse cenário. Método: revisão integrativa realizada em 2018, com artigos brasileiros selecionados na Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde. Resultados: revisados 16 artigos publicados entre 2004 e 2018. A violência obstétrica pode ser associada a: ofensa verbal e psicológica, expropriação do corpo feminino, privação de acompanhante, falta de informações, privação dos movimentos, banalização da dor e falta de privacidade. Possíveis causas: despreparo institucional e profissional, autoritarismo/hierarquização profissional, medicalização da assistência, nível socioeconômico e escolaridade das mulheres, e negação ou não reconhecimento da violência obstétrica. Conclusão: a enfermeira obstétrica pode contribuir para a redução dessa violência. São necessários mais investimentos na formação dessas profissionais e proporcionar assistência de qualidade no pré-natal e parto.ABSTRACTObjective: review Brazilian researches, identifying the types of obstetric violence, possible causes observed and the role of nurses in this scenario.
