The mechanism for maintaining balance in man is complex. Vision, proprioception, and vestibular inputs are integrated in the central nervous system, and modulated by activity from the cerebellum, the extrapyramidal system, the reticular formation, and the cortex. This integrated, modulated information provides one mechanism for control of oculomotor activity, controls posture, gait, and motor skills and allows perception of the head and body in space. Recent evidence also supports an effect upon autonomic function, cognition, and emotion. The complexity of the system is such that pathology in a variety of different bodily systems, including the endocrine system, the cardiovascular system, and the haemopoietic system, can impact upon vestibular activity, in addition to primary otological and neurological pathology.Patients with dysfunction in the vestibular end-organs or vestibular pathways commonly complain of symptoms of dizziness, vertigo, unsteadiness, light-headedness, imbalance, and a plethora of synonyms associated with a sense of instability. Not infrequently, in an attempt to define their ‘unphysiological’ experience, patients use rather vague and imprecise semantics. The clinical distinction between dizziness, a symptom of non-specific pathological significance, and vertigo, a hallucination or illusion of movement, is rarely made, although the latter is a cardinal manifestation of a disorder of the vestibular system (Dix 1973). Ten to 20 per cent of all ‘dizzy’ patients are reportedly seen in neurology clinics (Dieterish 2004), therefore it behoves the neurologist to have a clear diagnostic strategy, including knowledge of detailed neuro-otological examination, to enable appropriate diagnosis and management of the patient with vestibular symptoms.

This issue of Astronomical and Astrophysical Transactions comprises the papers presented at the tenth annual conference on Modern Stellar Astronomy, held in Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences in October 2019. The “Modern Stellar Astronomy” conferences provide a forum for Russian scientists and scientists from the former Soviet Union concerned with stellar astronomy and related topics. The program consisted of invited talks, contributed oral talks, and poster papers. There were about 110 registered participants at the meeting. The program of the 2019 conference included 84 oral and 26 poster presentations. The key topics for the conference were Binary stars, Variable stars, Stellar clusters, Star formation, Exoplanets, Structure, kinematics and dynamics of the Milky Way Galaxy, Other galaxies. This volume comprises eleven of the papers that were presented at the conference.

The Upper Cretaceous Horseshoe Canyon Formation deposits near Drumheller, Alberta, Canada form world-class exposures of tidally-influenced, marginal marine to shoreline depositional environments. These outcrops have represented a fundamental training ground for generations of Canadian and international geoscientists. The compilation of work in this publication is the product of seven years of study by WAVE Consortium geoscientists. The WAVE Consortium was an industry-funded research collective run by the Australian School of Petroleum & Energy Resources, University of Adelaide between 2008 and 2014. The work integrates interpretations of outcrop observations with core descriptions and wireline log data to generate depositional models. These models were then convolved into 3D reservoir models from which synthetic seismic volumes were generated. This digital resource is provided in three parts: A) A Field and Core Guide: Volume 1, B) A Core and Outcrop Facies and Ichnology Guide: Volume 2, C) Posters - which can be downloaded from the SEPM Supplemental Materials Website.

In it Bely explores the laws of human development, starting with the appearance of Christianity and ending with the XX century, the era of symbolism and anthroposophy. The unique set of related materials is published for the first time: the draft of the treatise, fragments of the first edition, explanatory notes by Andrey Bely himself and his widow K.N. Bugayeva. For the first time, drawings, diagrams and accompanying posters are reproduced that clarify the author’s idea of History of the Formation of a Self-Conscious Soul. The publication is provided with essential detailed scholarly commentary, an introduction and afterword, indexes of names and illustrations. A la croisée des domaines de l’anthropologie et de l’éducation / formation langagière, la didactique des langues notamment, la perspective interculturelle a opéré un apport majeur pour rompre avec des conceptions essentialisant et/ou isolant chaque « culture », montrer les processus socio-interactionnels de leur construction, mettre l’accent sur l’entre-deux, le contact, l’altérité qui se joue dans l’interaction. Elle interroge ainsi la rencontre, et les possibilités de s’inter-comprendre, ouvre la voie d’une éducation dont le premier enjeu serait de (se) socialiser au divers, dans le contexte de sociétés complexes marquées par des mobilités accrues, confrontées au défi de se repenser dans l’inclusion de cette hétérogénéité linguistique et culturelle. On s’intéresse ici à « l’interculturel » dans l’enseignement universitaire, qui, dans une dynamique d’internationalisation grandissante, s’adresse à des étudiant(e)s aux profils et répertoires linguistiques et culturels de plus en plus divers. This book explores an archive of modernist literature that conceives survival as a collective enterprise linking lives across boundaries of race, time, class, species, gender, and sexuality. As social Darwinism promoted a selfish, competitive, and combatively individualistic understanding of survival, the four modernists examined here countered by imagining how postures of precarity, vulnerability, and receptivity can breed pleasurably and environmentally sustainable modes of interdependent survival. These modes prove particularly vital and appealing to queer bodies, desires, and intimacies deemed unfit, abnormal, or unproductive by heterosexist ideologies. Henry James’s “The Beast in the Jungle” opposes “survival of the fittest” doctrines and Progressive-era masculinity with a feminist-inspired cultivation of ecological humility and interspecies collaboration. Oscar Wilde develops an autobiographical form that expresses collective subjectivity in De Profundis, an epistolary testament to the constitutive role of suffering in queer community formation. E. M. Forster imagines, in Howards End, how queer ideas and intimacies survive courtesy of invitations that awaken both inviters and invitees to unexpected relational possibilities freed from conventional timelines of development and realization. In Forster’s A Passage to India, the pursuit of “queer invitations” models an evolutionary succession defined by careful attention to creaturely inheritance and by ethical responses to the countless lives, including those obfuscated by imperial privilege, required for the successful survival of any individual life. Finally, Willa Cather’s short and long fiction, including “Consequences,” Lucy Gayheart, and The Professor’s House, argues for suicide as a way of life as it transforms the impulse to throw life away into an ethical alternative to the greedy logics of capitalism.

En el marco del Encuentro de Becaries (EBEC) 2020, se convocó adicionalmente a la presentación de producciones que aportaran específicamente a la consigna “Producir conocimiento con el contexto de la Pandemia del Covid-19 - UNLP 2020”. Pudiendo tratarse de ensayos, crónicas y/o descripciones de prácticas y procesos, en cualquier tipo de lenguaje: escrito, visual (fotos, dibujos, croquis, planos), audiovisual, sonoro, transmedial. El objetivo principal contempló el poder interpelar las voces de les becaries brindando un espacio para la comunicación de sus prácticas académicas, científicas y tecnológicas de manera situada en relación con las diversas dimensiones que se abren ante el contexto de pandemia. Se lograron reunir producciones en diferentes formatos: ensayos, posters, resúmenes, videos, que estuvieron disponibles durante la jornada en la página del Encuentro para ser visitadas. Luego, las producciones recibidas fueron analizadas por un Comité Editorial integrado por referentes de las diferentes áreas de investigación, docencia y extensión de nuestra Universidad, el cual evaluó su pertinencia realizando aportes y sugerencias para la elaboración de las versiones finales, las cuales son parte del presente libro.

El propósito fundamental del Congreso Internacional Multidisciplinario HUMANIDAD 2021, fue el de ofrecer un momento académico para el intercambio de experiencias y de sensibilización, en torno a tópicos de interés y tratamiento científico, desarrollado en el marco temático de los Grupos de Investigación Asociados de la RedGIA Internacional de ACVENISPROH, Capítulo Ecuador; para así, promoverla discusión y el debate, desde la rigurosidad científica entre docentes, estudiantes, profesionales, innovadores e investigadores a nivel internacional.Este objetivo se cumplió. En este sentido, cabe destacar que detrás de la modalidad, 100% ASINCRÓNICA, establecida como formato del evento; existió un caudal de humanidad. Los participantes pudieron disfrutar de las Conferencias, Ponencias Orales Audiovisuales (POA) y Ponencias Posters (PP) desarrollándose, además, una interacción comunicativa entre los investigadores participantes a través de la plataforma del chaten cualquier momento y lugar. En otras palabras, la estructura tecnológica conformó un escenario didáctico-productivo, propicio para el intercambio de experiencias, sin presiones de tiempo, con las condiciones académicas plenas; enfrentando la adversidad de nada más y nada menos que una pandemia, aúnvigente. Es por ello, que esta memoria representa no solo el esfuerzo de cada uno de los participantes en el desarrollo de sus propuestas investigativas sino, además, del sentir humano por crecernos frente a la adversidad. Es, sin duda, un gran logro. Comoun aspecto muy significativo, destacamos la asistencia de los participantes al área denominada Re-conocernos, un espacio donde intercambiaron impresiones de los sitios turísticos, académicos e inquietudes sobre integración cultural; en un compartir de saberes entre los investigadores de los distintos países participantes: Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, España, México, Perú, Portugal, República Dominicana, Uruguay y Venezuela.Desde este contexto, la presente memoria, se ha configurado de acuerdo con las modalidades y ejes temáticos desarrollados. De esta manera, se reportan propuestas académicas arbitradas, con base alos parámetros propios de este tipo de eventosyen correspondencia a los ejes temáticos, de amplio espectro, presentes en RedGIA-Ecuador: Educación, Salud, Derecho, Psicología, E-sports, Gerencia y afines. Todos, presentados entre las distintas modalidades del evento: Conferencias Magistrales, Ponencias Orales Audiovisuales(POA) y Ponencias Posters (PP). Solo resta decir: ¡Gracias! a todos los que hicieron posible este gran logro: conferencistas, ponentes, asistentes, acompañantes académicos, patrocinadores y equipo operativo del evento. This outstanding book provides an in-depth historical study of the place of Jesus in the religious life, beliefs, and worship of Christians from the beginnings of the Christian movement down to the late second century. Lord Jesus Christ is a monumental work on earliest Christian devotion to Jesus, sure to replace Wilhelm Bousset’s Kyrios Christos (1913) as the standard work on the subject. Larry Hurtado, widely respected for his previous contributions to the study of the New Testament and Christian origins, offers the best view to date of how the first Christians saw and reverenced Jesus as divine. In assembling this compelling picture, Hurtado draws on a wide body of ancient sources, from Scripture and the writings of such figures as Ignatius of Antioch and Justin to apocryphal texts such as the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of Truth. Durante la última década, las redes académicas que abordan el área de la educación física vienen desarrollando estudios con el fin de encontrar aplicaciones pedagógicas dentro de propuestas contemporáneas, influidas por las ciencias, la tecnología y las posturas humanistas; que incidan en el desarrollo de un sujeto integral, con saberes fortalecidos para el buen vivir (SED, 2012), horizonte que implica “saber convivir” y “saber ser” (p. 11). El grupo de investigación “Educación Física y Desarrollo Humano”1, en esta misma línea, ha orientado su labor hacia el reforzamiento de aquellos conceptos que dan paso a una educación física decidida a cumplir con el objetivo magno que reza en la Ley General de Educación colombiana en su artículo 5: “el pleno desarrollo de la personalidad, sin más limitaciones que las que le imponen los derechos de los demás y el orden jurídico, dentro de un proceso de formación integral, física, psíquica, intelectual, moral, espiritual, social, afectiva, ética, cívica y demás valores humanos”. En este trayecto, ha realizado estudios en torno de temas centrales como cuerpo-subjetividad, cuerpo-emocionalidad-currículo, y cuerpo-creatividad. En este sentido, el presente texto muestra resultados de estudios pedagógicos realizados dentro de la línea “la educación física frente al desarrollo socio-emocional del sujeto”, que explora el papel del área básica y fundamental de la educación física, la recreación y el deporte formativo, en el fortalecimiento de las habilidades sociales y emocionales en los escolares colombianos. En primer lugar, hay una aproximación filosófica y pedagógica acerca del concepto “cuerpo” en el ámbito educativo, pues una concepción abarcadora del mismo resulta crucial en una dinámica humanista de la educación física. Efectivamente, la valoración del cuerpo implica un reconocimiento pleno de todas sus connotaciones y de manera integral, así, en términos generales, desde la antropología filosófica se afirma, que el entendimiento integral de lo humano debe darse desde y en la corporalidad, sin reducciones de ningún tipo a cualquiera de sus dimensiones, por tal razón, el cuerpo debe ser cuestión de atención especial y aprendizaje desde los primeros años de vida, igualmente factor esencial de experiencia y estudio en los centros educativos. Luego hay una necesidad perentoria de abordar lo relevante del cuerpo en la educación, y es por esta línea que se enrumba el primer capítulo, inicialmente, como una reflexión que va más allá de la educación física como área que responde directamente por el asunto corporal en la escuela. El segundo capítulo analiza los aspectos necesarios de una educación física que haga el tránsito de la utopía irrealizable a la heterotopía de un espacio otro, acudiendo a los planteamientos de Michel Foucault, que permita en sus dinámicas interpelar los fines y las dinámicas tradicionales de una clase. En esa línea, resalta el papel formador de las universidades y destaca, como ejemplo, cuatro experiencias pedagógicas investigativas desarrolladas por jóvenes investigadores, que exhiben una educación física potencialmente heterotópica, con propósitos descentrados del rendimiento motor convencional, y con múltiples mediaciones que conducen a la construcción de sentido. El tercer capítulo permite identificar las implicaciones pedagógicas que conlleva la implementación de estrategias que fortalezcan las competencias socio-afectivas desde el escenario de la clase de educación física.Busca aclarar y definir el verdadero sentido que adquieren las relaciones entre el desarrollo motor, la inteligencia emocional y la creatividad motriz en el acto educativo. Finalmente, en la lógica temática que ha pasado de lo filosófico a lo pedagógico, en el cuarto capítulo se concluye con un estudio documental que analiza los currículos de 20 países de América y Europa, poniendo el foco en los planteamientos de la educación física, como área del currículo, frente a su papel en la formación socioemocional de la población escolar.
