There are several options how to configure Web Map Service using several map servers. GeoServer is one of most popular map servers nowadays. GeoServer is able to read data from several sources. Very popular data source is ESRI Shapefile. It is well documented and most of software for geodata processing is able to read and write data in this format. Another very popular data store is PostgreSQL/PostGIS object-relational database. Both data sources has advantages and disadvantages and user of GeoServer has to decide which one to use. The paper describes comparison of performance of GeoServer Web Map Service when reading data from ESRI Shapefile or from PostgreSQL/PostGIS database.

PostgreSQL with PostGIS extension plays one of the major roles in many complex GIS frameworks. There exist many possibilities how to access such data storage, but most of them might be seen as not simple for new users. In this paper we would like to introduce the concept of the implementation of a web based PostGIS client application. The main emphasis of described solution is placed on simplicity and straightforward approach for visualisation of general SQL queries.

Abstract. Three-dimensional (3D) raster data (also named voxel) is important sources for 3D geo-information applications, which have long been used for modelling continuous phenomena such as geological and medical objects. Our world can be represented in voxels by gridding the 3D space and specifying what each grid represents by attaching every voxel to a real-world object. Nature-triggered disasters can also be modelled in volumetric representation. Unlike point cloud, it is still a lack of wide research on how to efficiently store and manage such semantic 3D raster data. In this work, we would like to investigate four different data layouts for voxel management in open-source (spatial) DBMS - PostgreSQL/PostGIS, which is suitable for efficiently retrieving and quick querying. Besides, a benchmark has been developed to compare various voxel data management solutions concerning functionality and performance. The main test dataset is the groups of buildings of UNSW Kensington Campus, with 10cm resolution. The obtained storage and query results suggest that the presented approach can be successfully used to handle voxel management, semantic and range queries on large voxel dataset.

Building a system of data visualization of pig herds in Tra Vinh province based on GIS (Geographic Information System) will help management agencies update, do statistical analysis of and forecast the fluctuation in pig herds within the provincial area. Since then, pig farmers will have reliable information, which canmake their investment more efficient. The system is built on the WebGIS platform combining solutions for processing map data with PostGIS - an extension of PostgreSQL database management system to manage GIS objects. Additionally, the system will also provide solutions to handle and share pig herd data on the map with Geoserver - an open source server with the aim of connecting geographic information from PostGIS to Geoweb.

Incorporating data stored in a geographical information system (GIS) within the development of hydraulic simulation models is crucial for operating, updating, and hence redesigning water supply systems (WSS). Building and updating hydraulic models can be both time and resource consuming; moreover, the need to update infrastructure cadastral information makes the model itself outdated. In addition, typical dispersion of data across several databases requires extra effort to maintain the whole system and ensure it is properly assembled. Albeit there are some GIS-based hydraulic modelling solutions available, they typically use external connections to assemble all components resulting in additional costs and less flexibility. In order to be able to establish a single fully integrated data model towards global characterization of a WSS and associate hydraulic simulation, this paper proposes the specific implementation of an EPANET 2 model in PostgreSQL along with PostGIS extension. The system developed enables the construction of the model, hydraulic simulation, and storage of results within a single database. Required procedures and functions were coded either in pgSQL or Python and their execution were carried out using SQL statements. Finally, a case study was selected in order to test the system proposed. Results show that an integrated approach indeed allows the expedited creation of more realistic hydraulic models based on the stored cadastral information.

There are several indexing techniques used in retrieval of spatial data. In this paper a comparative analysis is performed on three spatial indexing techniques- GiST (Generalized Search Tree), SP_GiST (Space partition Generalized Search Tree) and R-tree (Rectangle tree) in spatial database PostgreSQL/Postgre using Java API. The comparison is performed on five categories of spatial and non spatial queries ,namely Simple SQL, Geometry, Spatial Relational ship, Spatial Join and Nearest Neighborhood based on benchmark dataset of New York city. This paper performs experiment in all five categories and compares performance for each category on index structure.

Geography Markup Language (GML) was developed to standardize the representation of geographical data in extensible markup language (XML), which facilitates geographical information exchange and sharing. Increasing amounts of geographical data are being presented in GML as its use widens, raising the question of how to store GML data efficiently to facilitate its management and retrieval. We analyze topology data in GML and propose storing nonspatial and spatial data from GML documents in spatial databases (e.g, Oracle Spatial, DB2 Spatial, and PostGIS/PostgreSQL.). We then use an example to analyze the topology relation.

SWEA-Dataveg is a vegetation-plot database collecting observations mainly in sub-Saharan Africa but also open to the rest of the African continent. To date this database contains more than 5,500 plot observations provided by 47 sources (projects, monographs, and articles). While the database is stored in PostgreSQL (including the PostGIS extension), the R-package “vegtable” implements a suitable exchange format. In this article we assess the current content of SWEA-Database and introduce its history and future as a repository of data for syntaxonomic assessments and macroecological research.

Abstract The main aim of the study was to introduce a spatial database application for the estimation of changes in shoreline position. The open-source PostgreSQL database system with the PostGIS spatial extension was used as the data store for digitalised shorelines. The solution to calculations of the shoreline changes was based on the functions written in the PL/SQL language and geospatial functions provided by the PostGIS extension. The traditional baseline and transects method was used to quantify the distances and rate of shoreline movement. Outputs of the calculations were stored in the database table and simply visualised using graphical functions in the R software environment or in GIS Desktop software. The advantage of presented method is the application of SQL language in the analysis of the relation between the geometry of shorelines stored in the database table, which, compared to other similar solutions, gives the user fully open, simple analytical code and enable selecting custom parameters of analysis, modifying code and performing additional calculations.

Các ứng dụng WebGIS thể hiện thông tin dạng bản đồ động mà trong đó người dùng có thể thực hiện các tra xét tìm kiếm thông tin dưa trên những thuộc tính chỉ định nào đó đã trở nên phổ biến. Tuy nhiên, trong thực tế người dùng có thể có mong muốn thực hiện các tìm kiếm phức tạp hơn, ví dụ như tìm kiếm các khách sạn trong vòng bán kính 500m từ một vị trí xác định. Các yêu cầu dạng này thuộc vào dạng bài toán truy vấn không gian trong GIS. Như là một đóng góp thêm vào trong lĩnh vực này, bài báo trình bày và minh họa một số cách thức thực hiện truy vấn không gian trên Web bao gồm thực hiện phía Client sử dụng thư viện JSTS, thực hiện phía server sử dụng WPS hoặc sử dụng các hàm phân tích không gian có trong cơ sở dữ liệu PostgreSQL/PostGIS. Một hệ thống WebGIS - dựa trên các sản phẩm mã nguồn mở Geoserver, và OpenLayers v5.3.0 - đã được xây dựng và được sử dụng để thực hiện minh họa hoạt động truy vấn không gian trong tìm kiếm các đối tượng địa lý trong mối quan hệ không gian với đối tượng địa lý khác. Kết quả thực nghiệm cho thấy việc sử dụng JSTS hoặc WPS hoặc các hàm không gian trong PostgreSQL/PostGIS để thực hiện truy vấn không gian qua internet là hoàn toàn có thể thực hiện được.

Modern day 3D data acquisition and processing techniques such as airborne laser scanning and multi-beam echosounding generate billions of 3D points for simply an area of few square kilometers. With the size of the point clouds exceeding the billion mark for even a small area, there is a need for their efficient storage and management. These point clouds are sometimes associated with attributes and constraints as well. Storing billions of 3D points is currently possible which is confirmed by the initial implementations in Oracle Spatial SDO PC and the PostgreSQL Point Cloud extension. But to be able to analyse and extract useful information from point clouds, we need more than just points i.e. we require the surface defined by these points in space. There are different ways to represent surfaces in GIS including grids, TINs, boundary representations, etc. In this study, we investigate the database solutions for the storage and management of massive TINs. The classical (face and edge based) and compact (star based) data structures are discussed at length with reference to their structure, advantages and limitations in handling massive triangulations and are compared with the current solution of PostGIS Simple Feature. The main test dataset is the TIN generated from third national elevation model of the Netherlands (AHN3) with a point density of over 10 points/m<sup>2</sup>. PostgreSQL/PostGIS DBMS is used for storing the generated TIN. The data structures are tested with the generated TIN models to account for their geometry, topology, storage, indexing, and loading time in a database. Our study is useful in identifying what are the limitations of the existing data structures for storing massive TINs and what is required to optimise these structures for managing massive triangulations in a database.

La investigación busca establecer una comparación entre la presencia de áreas verdes próximas a centros educativos en dos distritos de Lima Metropolitana, Breña y Pueblo Libre, debido a la influencia que tienen en el bienestar humano; el trabajo incluyó visitas de campo, in situ de ambos distritos y un trabajo de gabinete donde se procesó la información tomada con el GPS Garmin Etrex 20, mediante el programa Postgresql / Postgis, además del uso del programa Google Earth Pro y la descripción de los datos obtenidos en las salidas de campo. Se determinó que Pueblo Libre posee un mayor porcentaje de área total parque (y en consecuencia, una mayor cantidad de área verde), por lo que la relación de parques con la cantidad de entidades educativas a radios de 100, 200 y 300 m en Pueblo Libre es mayor; Breña posee 0.33 m2 de área verde por habitante y Pueblo Libre 2.14 m2.

Olahraga futsal adalah olahraga dengan lapangan tertutup dan menjadi salah satu olahraga yang paling banyak diminati dari semua kalangan. Kota Padang memiliki fasilitas lapangan futsal yang cukup banyak, namun tidak semua lapangan beroperasi dengan baik disebabkan ketidaktahuan masyarakat dengan lokasi lapangan futsal. Maka dibutuhkan sistem informasi berbasis web menggunakan Google Maps API, sehingga masyarakat dapat mengakses informasi kapanpun dengan koneksi internet. Proses pembangunan aplikasi menggunakan metode waterfall yang terdiri dari tahap analisis, perancangan, implementasi, dan pengujian. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan cara wawancara dan pengambilan titik menggunakan aplikasi Latitude Longitude Coordinates pada smartphone. Data akan dibagi menjadi data spasial dan atribut untuk memenuhi kebutuhan fungsional dari sistem yang akan dibangun.Perancangan sistem dibangun dengan menggambarkan arsitektur aplikasi, rancangan tampilan aplikasi dan rancangan database. Implementasi menggunakan basis data PostgreSQL dan ekstensi PostGIS untuk pengolahan data spasial. Bahasa pemograman yang digunakan untuk membangun aplikasi yaitu PHP, Javascript, dan HTML. Pengujian aplikasi menggunakan metode blackbox. Hasil dari pengujian menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi telah memenuhi sembilan fungsional yang dibutuhkan dan sesuai dengan perancangan aplikasi.

Engineering infrastructures require regular maintenance and/or repair activities that have important social, environmental, and economic impacts. Despite their growing importance, few studies have focused on fully integrated analyses. This work presents a general methodological approach to design databases of engineering maintenance activities for their assessment. This methodology was applied to the case of dredging projects in the ports managed by the Andalusian Regional Government (Spain). The resulting database contains 87 fields of information obtained from the analysis of 70 activities performed between 1993 and 2015. This database is free, public, and available to the scientific community, and it was implemented in PostgreSQL using the PostGIS extension for spatial data; therefore, it can be integrated in a GIS. The assessment of deviations from the initial projects and the comparison between locations enhanced our methodology, which represents a valuable tool not only for scientists and managers to improve the decision-making process when planning future strategies, but also to evaluate the environmental impacts.

Geographic Information System (GIS) is a tool used for capture, storage, manipulation, query and presentation of spatial data that have applicability in diverse fields. Web GIS has put GIS on Web, that made it available to common public which was earlier used by few elite users. In the present paper, development of Web GIS frameworks has been explained that provide the requisite knowledge for creating Web based GIS applications. Open Source Software (OSS) have been used to develop two Web GIS frameworks. In first Web GIS framework, WAMP server, ALOV, Quantum GIS and MySQL have been used while in second Web GIS framework, Apache Tomcat server, GeoServer, Quantum GIS, PostgreSQL and PostGIS have been used. These two Web GIS frameworks have been critically compared to bring out the suitability of each for a particular application as well as their performance. This will assist users in selecting the most suitable one for a particular Web GIS application.

GIS, remote sensing, digital technology and data management play a key role in the development of sustainable city. With the help of technology, it is possible to increase performance, reduce cost, utilize resources efficiently and engage the citizen in the system that makes the city smarter. Basic infrastructure component that makes the city smarter include transport, energy, healthcare, water and waste. The present study is aimed to develop WebGIS based framewrk for the visualization, monitoring and citizen reporting system for solid waste in an urban area. A WebGIS based framework is presented that uses open source software such as open layer, Javascript, Apache tomcat, Geoserver, PostgreSQL/PostGIS and MySQL for visualization and monitoring of geospatial data. Using this framework a Geo-locator tool is developed to find the locations of facility to end user for reporting and lodging complain etc. It also develops automatic report for municipal officers to quickly respond to the complaints.

Kebakaran hutan merupakan masalah yang serius karena dapat mengakibatkan dampak buruk terhadap lingkungan. Salah satu upaya pencegahan kebakaran hutan adalah membangun sistem informasi geografis (SIG) berbasis web untuk mengelola data histori titik api sebagai indikator terjadinya kebakaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membangun SIG berbasis web menggunakan perangkat lunak OpenGeo Suite 3.0. OpenGeo Suite merupakan aplikasi yang mengemas sistem manajemen basis data PostgreSQL dengan ekstensi spasial PostGIS dan server peta Geoserver sehingga memberikan kemudahan dalam pembangunan dan pengelolaan SIG berbasis web. SIG yang dibangun menyediakan fitur utama yaitu menampilkan peta Indonesia, fungsi pan map, zoom in, zoom out, dan fungsi pencarian persebaran titik api berdasarkan wilayah dan waktu. Dengan adanya SIG berbasis web ini, pengelolaan data histori titik api dapat dilakukan dengan mudah sehingga dapat membantu pengguna dalam penyediaan data histori dan persebaran titik api untuk wilayah Indonesia.<br /><br />Kata Kunci: OpenGeo Suite, sistem informasi geografis berbasis web, titik api.

Fast development of hardware in recent years leads to the high availability of simple sensing devices at minimal cost. As a consequence, there is many of sensor networks nowadays. These networks can continuously produce a large amount of observed data including the location of measurement. Optimal data architecture for such propose is a challenging issue due to its large scale and spatio-temporal nature. The aim of this paper is to describe data architecture that was used in a particular solution for storage of sensor data. This solution is based on relation data model – concretely PostgreSQL and PostGIS. We will mention out experience from real world projects focused on car monitoring and project targeted on agriculture sensor networks. We will also shortly demonstrate the possibilities of client side API and the potential of other open source libraries that can be used for cartographic visualization (e.g. GeoServer). The main objective is to describe the strength and weakness of usage of relation database system for such propose and to introduce also alternative approaches based on NoSQL concept.<br />

The presented work is part of the research project, titled "Tecniche murarie tradizionali: conoscenza per la conservazione ed il miglioramento prestazionale" (Traditional building techniques: from knowledge to conservation and performance improvement). This research project has the purpose of studying the building techniques of the 13<sup>th</sup>&amp;ndash;18<sup>th</sup> centuries in the Sardinia Region (Italy) for their knowledge, conservation, and promotion. The end purpose of the entire study is to improve the performance of the examined structures. In particular, the task of the authors within the research project was to build a WebGIS to manage the data collected during the examination and study phases. This infrastructure was entirely built using Open Source software. <br><br> The work consisted of designing a database built in PostgreSQL and its spatial extension PostGIS, which allows storing and managing feature geometries and spatial data. The data input is performed via a form built in HTML and PHP. The HTML part is based on Bootstrap, an open tools library for websites and web applications. The implementation of this template used both PHP and Javascript code. The PHP code manages the reading and writing of data to the database, using embedded SQL queries. The database is published on the Internet as a WebGIS built using the Leaflet Javascript open libraries, which allows creating map sites with background maps and navigation, input and query tools. This too uses an interaction of HTML, Javascript, PHP and SQL code. The Database can be accessed in QGIS via a PostgreSQL connection. <br><br> As of today, we surveyed and archived more than 300 buildings, belonging to three main macro categories: fortification architectures, religious architectures, residential architectures.

Abstract. The status quo of the land management and information system in Nepal is a far cry from where the developed world stands. Paper-based system is still the spine of this system which is tedious, less accurate and difficult to store and update. So, there is a need for a digitized system providing country’s land authorities with a powerful tool that creates a unified platform for the creation of an accurate spatial database, timely maintenance and updating of the database in a dynamic web platform. The database including spatial data of land features can be utilized to create a web-based thin-client mapping application which meets the needs of all the stakeholders (government authorities from Survey Offices, Land Revenue Offices, Land Reform Offices, etc.). This paper shows the use of open-source software for the creation of a web mapping system including QGIS, PostGIS extension of PostgreSQL for spatial database, HTML for markup, CSS for styling, JavaScript, Leaflet, Open-Layers for client-side scripting and Geo-Django for backend designing. The developed methodology can be utilised for the preparation of an interactive thin-client web mapping server that enables general users to dynamically view data, zoom, pan and search from the database and obtain land information. The login system enables administrators with various access to upload, verify and edit data along with performing various spatial operations while the super admin is entitled to access to the PostgreSQL database. The major finding is that the use of a thin client application for a land information system is beneficial for all stakeholders. It is also a measure of the performance of land authorities allowing better planning, preparedness, and allocation of resources.

Lembaga bimbingan belajar (Bimbel) merupakan sebuah lembaga non formal yang melayani pendidikan siswa yang dilakukan di luar jam sekolah. Saat ini, bimbel telah menjadi suatu kebutuhan pagi para siswa, khususnya siswa yang akan melanjutkan studinya ke perguruan tinggi. Di Kota Padang terdapat lebih dari 50 lembaga bimbel untuk tingkat SMA yang tersebar di sejumlah kecamatan. Banyaknya lembaga bimbel yang ada secara tidak langsung mengakibatkan masyarakat kesulitan untuk mendapatkan informasi lokasi lembaga bimbel tersebut, khususnya bagi para pendatang baru. Untuk itu, perlu dibangun Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG) lokasi lembaga bimbel di Kota Padang berbasis web. SIG ini dibangun dengan menggunakan metode waterfall. Pembangunan SIG ini diawali dengan melakukan analisis kebutuhan, perancangan sistem, serta implementasi dan pengujian sistem. Analisis kebutuhan dilakukan untuk mengumpulkan data-data yang diperlukan dalam membangun sistem. Perancangan sistem meliputi perancangan arsitektur, basis data, dan perancangan user interface. Implementasi sistem menggunakan basis data PostgreSQL dengan ekstensi PostGIS, serta bahasa pemrograman PHP dan Javascript. Pengujian sistem dilakukan dengan metode black-box yang berfokus pada fungsional sistem. Hasil dari pengujian yang dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa SIG lokasi lembaga bimbel di Kota Padang berbasis web telah sesuai dengan kebutuhan fungsional sistem.

Usaha florist merupakan usaha yang bergerak di bidang jasa yang menawarkan jasa pemesanan berbagai macam produk barang karangan bunga seperti papan karangan bunga, bunga krans dan lain-lain. Dari segi pendaftaran pemesanan, masyarakat/calon pemesan masih melakukan pencarian dengan cara mencari terlebih dahulu informasi, yaitu dengan mengunjungi langsung ke usaha florist yang dituju, sehingga hal tersebut membutuhkan waktu yang lama. Salah satu alternatif yang dapat digunakan untuk mengatasi permasalahan yang muncul tersebut adalah dengan memanfaatkan sistem informasi berbasis Web GIS (Web Geographic Information System). Pengembangan yang dilakukan pada pembangunan aplikasi Sistem Informasi Geografis penyebaran lokasi usaha florist serta fitur pendaftaran_pemesanan berbasis web di Kota Padang menggunakan metode pengembangan sistem model Waterfall. Tahapan metode waterfall meliputi analysis, design, coding, dan testing. Aplikasi ini diimplementasikan dengan menggunakan bahasa pemrograman PHP, Javascript, JSON, dan SQL. Basis data yang digunakan untuk menyimpan data adalah PostgreSQL dengan ekstensi PostGIS. Pengujian sistem dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode blackbox testing yang dilakukan oleh 6 orang penguji. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian yang telah dilakukan pada semua fungsional yang ada pada aplikasi ini diperoleh hasil bahwa 31 fungsional tersebut telah berjalan sesuai dengan yang dirancang.

Intense urbanisation, combined with climate change impacts such as increased rainfall intensity, is overloading conventional drainage systems, increasing the number of combined sewer overflow events and making treatment plants outdated. There is a need for better urban planning, incorporating stormwater and flood management design in order to accurately design urban drainage networks. Geographic Information System (GIS) tools are capable of identifying and delineating the runoff flow direction, as well as accurately defining small-sized urban catchments using geospatial data. This study explores the synergies between GIS and stormwater management design tools for better land-use planning, providing a new methodology which has the potential to incorporate hydraulic and hydrological calculations into the design of urban areas. From data collection to final results, only freely available software and open platforms have been used: the U.S. EPA Storm Water Management Model (SWMM), QGis, PostgreSQL, PostGIS, SagaGIS, and GrassGIS. Each of these tools alone cannot provide all the necessary functionalities for large-scale projects, but once linked to GISWATER, a unique, fast, efficient, and accurate work methodology results. A case study of a newly urbanised area in the city of Gijón (northern Spain) has been utilised to apply this new methodology.

The development of information and communication technologies today is one of the main drivers of tourism progress as a global social phenomenon. Against this background, the migration of geographic information technologies to the Internet and expanding of their practical use (including in the tourism sector) in the form of cartographic and geographic information services is logical. However, the introduction of technologies is constrained by their low availability (financial, intellectual, etc.) for the consumer. The paper is devoted to the development of the technological basis for increasing the availability of creating and using tourist geoportals and interactive web-maps (for example, the Moscow region). The basis of the technology is the mechanism of improved educational and scientific activity of students of the higher education system in the direction of tourism through innovative project activities. The software framework was made by the free “Open Source” products: Leaflet, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, HTML and HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. Design was carried out in 5 stages. The result was a tourist geoportal in the Moscow region. The main research methods were: modeling, comparative and descriptive methods, analysis and synthesis, analogies, etc.; the main research approaches were systemic, integrated, geographical and situational ones.

CityGML is considered as an optimal standard for representing 3D city models. However, international experience has shown that visualization of the latter is quite difficult to be implemented on the web, due to the large size of data and the complexity of CityGML. As a result, in the context of this paper, a 3D WebGIS application is developed in order to successfully retrieve and visualize CityGML data in accordance with their respective geometric and semantic characteristics. Furthermore, the available web technologies and the architecture of WebGIS systems are investigated, as provided by international experience, in order to be utilized in the most appropriate way for the purposes of this paper. Specifically, a PostgreSQL/ PostGIS Database is used, in compliance with the 3DCityDB schema. At Server tier, Apache HTTP Server and GeoServer are utilized, while a Server Side programming language PHP is used. At Client tier, which implemented the interface of the application, the following technologies were used: JQuery, AJAX, JavaScript, HTML5, WebGL and Ol3-Cesium. Finally, it is worth mentioning that the application’s primary objectives are a user-friendly interface and a fully open source development.

Some of the most powerful spatial analysis software solutions (Oracle, Google Earth Engine, PostgreSQL + PostGIS, etc.) are currently performing geometric calculations directly on the ellipsoid (a quadratic surface that models the earth shape), with a double purpose: to attain a high degree of accuracy and to allow the full management of large areas of territory (countries or even continents). It is well known that both objectives are impossible to achieve by means of the traditional approach using local mathematical projections and Cartesian coordinates. This paper demonstrates in a quantitative methodological way that most of the spatial analysis software products make important deviations in calculations regarding to geodesics, being the users unaware of the magnitude of these inaccuracies, which can easily reach meters depending on the distance. This is due to the use of ellipsoid calculations in an approximate way (e.g., using a sphere instead of an ellipsoid). This paper presents the implementation of two algorithms that solve with high accuracy (less than 100 nm) and efficiently (few iterations) two basic geometric calculations on the ellipsoid that are essential to build more complex spatial operators: the intersection of two geodesics and the minimum distance from a point to a geodesic.

O saneamento básico visa alcançar quatro vertentes de prestação de serviços essenciais à sociedade: abastecimento de água, esgotamento sanitário, drenagem de águas pluviais e manejo de resíduos sólidos. Nesse sentido, desenvolver um banco de dados geográficos (BDG) auxiliará como ferramenta para uma gestão integrada por parte dos gestores do saneamento. O objetivo deste trabalho é propor um BDG contendo informações do saneamento e das características urbanas e ambientais para melhorar a gestão integrada no bairro da Marambaia em Belém/PA. Para isso, adquiriu-se dados em órgãos públicos e prestadores de serviços de saneamento, nos formatos espaciais dwg, pdf e shp. Em seguida, foram processados e validados pelas ferramentas AutoCAD e ArcMap, e posteriormente, armazenados no BDG por meio do PostgreSQL e sua extensão espacial PostGIS os quais foram gerenciados pelo pgAdmin 4, resultando na sistematização em um único BDG contendo dados para geração de tabelas e mapas cartográficos do saneamento e características urbanas e ambientais. O BDG mostrou-se um excelente instrumento para a gestão integrada do saneamento, pois permite produzir, verificar e analisar de forma conjunta e segura informações e dados de saneamento contribuindo para tomar decisões e mitigar problemas.

Abstract. Web technologies are now an integral part of the implementation of research work in various branches of science. The geological and geophysical direction is no exception, where the planning and execution of geological and geophysical surveys depend on the accuracy, reliability and relevance of the transmitted information.The article deals with the possibilities of web technologies for cartographic support of geological exploration – a complex of scientific and production works, designed to determine the industrial significance of mineral deposits (ore, hydrocarbon, etc.). Examples are given of the use of geoportal solutions for the publication of data on the territory of study.Taking into account the current level of web technologies development, a proprietary web-service was created to provide operational access to geodata during geological and geophysical work. The presented solution is implemented using PostgreSQL DBMS, PostGIS geospatial data processing module, Leaflet JavaScript library. The resulting interactive map allows to perform operational monitoring of field crews during seismic exploration, provides information on the stages of data processing and interpretation. Also it allows to implement a unified geoinformation space for joint work of specialists from different industries.

Polyline geometries are used to represent linear features, such as roads, rivers and pipelines on maps. The generalization process results in a polyline that represents the feature either at a different resolution or different scale from the original geometries. In addition, the simplification process may result in losing the geometric properties associated with the intermediate points on the original geometries. These intermediate points can contain attributes or characteristics depending on the application domain. For example, points on the road network can contain information about accumulated length of the road, positional velocity, speed limit or accumulated gas consumption. This paper involves implementing the SELF (Semantically Enriched Line simpliFication) data structure to preserve the length attributes associated with individual points on actual linear features [Stefanakis 2015]. The number of points to be stored in the SELF structure is optimized by applying alternative compression techniques. The data structure has been implemented in PostgreSQL 9.4 [2014] with PostGIS [2016] extension using PL/pgSQL to support static and non-functional polylines. Extended experimental work has been carried out to better understand the impact of simplification on both synthetic and real (natural and artificial) linear features such as rivers and pipelines. The efficiency of SELF structure with regard to geo metric property preservation has been tested at various levels of simplification.

In this paper we present the results of the development of a Web-based archiving and documenting system aimed to the management of multisource and multitemporal data related to cultural heritage. As case study we selected the building complex of Villa Revedin Bolasco in Castefranco Veneto (Treviso, Italy) and its park. Buildings and park were built in XIX century after several restorations of the original XIV century area. The data management system relies on a geodatabase framework, in which different kinds of datasets were stored. More specifically, the geodatabase elements consist of historical information, documents, descriptions of artistic characteristics of the building and the park, in the form of text and images. In addition, we used also floorplans, sections and views of the outer facades of the building extracted by a TLS-based 3D model of the whole Villa. In order to manage and explore these rich dataset, we developed a geodatabase using PostgreSQL and PostGIS as spatial plugin. The Web-GIS platform, based on HTML5 and PHP programming languages, implements the NASA Web World Wind virtual globe, a 3D virtual globe we used to enable the navigation and interactive exploration of the park. Furthermore, through a specific timeline function, the user can explore the historical evolution of the building complex.

Every day large quantities of spatio-temporal data are captured, whether by Web-based companies for social data mining or by other industries for a variety of applications ranging from disaster relief to marine data analysis. Making sense of all this data dramatically increases the need for intelligent backend systems to provide realtime query response times while scaling well (in terms of storage and performance) with increasing quantities of structured or semi-structured, multi-dimensional data. Currently, relational database solutions with spatial extensions such as PostGIS, seem to come to their limits. However, the use of graph database technology has been rising in popularity and has been found to handle graph-like spatio-temporal data much more effectively. Motivated by the need to effectively store multi-dimensional, interconnected data, this paper investigates whether or not graph database technology is better suited when compared to the extended relational approach. Three database technologies will be investigated using real world datasets namely: PostgreSQL, JanusGraph, and TigerGraph. The datasets used are the Yelp challenge dataset and an ambulance response simulation dataset, thus combining real world spatial data with realistic simulations offering more control over the dataset. Our extensive evaluation is based on how each database performs under practical data analysis scenarios similar to those found on enterprise level.

In this paper we present the results of the development of a Web-based archiving and documenting system aimed to the management of multisource and multitemporal data related to cultural heritage. As case study we selected the building complex of Villa Revedin Bolasco in Castefranco Veneto (Treviso, Italy) and its park. Buildings and park were built in XIX century after several restorations of the original XIV century area. The data management system relies on a geodatabase framework, in which different kinds of datasets were stored. More specifically, the geodatabase elements consist of historical information, documents, descriptions of artistic characteristics of the building and the park, in the form of text and images. In addition, we used also floorplans, sections and views of the outer facades of the building extracted by a TLS-based 3D model of the whole Villa. In order to manage and explore these rich dataset, we developed a geodatabase using PostgreSQL and PostGIS as spatial plugin. The Web-GIS platform, based on HTML5 and PHP programming languages, implements the NASA Web World Wind virtual globe, a 3D virtual globe we used to enable the navigation and interactive exploration of the park. Furthermore, through a specific timeline function, the user can explore the historical evolution of the building complex.

Spatial region queries are more and more widely used in web-based applications. Mechanisms to provide efficient query processing over geospatial data are essential. However, due to the massive geospatial data volume, heavy geometric computation, and high access concurrency, it is difficult to get response in real time. Spatial indexes are usually used in this situation. In this paper, based on k-d tree, we introduce a distributed KD-Tree (DKD-Tree) suitbable for polygon data, and a two-step query algorithm. The spatial index construction is recursive and iterative, and the query is an in memory process. Both the index and query methods can be processed in parallel, and are implemented based on HDFS, Spark and Redis. Experiments on a large volume of Remote Sensing images metadata have been carried out, and the advantages of our method are investigated by comparing with spatial region queries executed on PostgreSQL and PostGIS. Results show that our approach not only greatly improves the efficiency of spatial region query, but also has good scalability, Moreover, the two-step spatial range query algorithm can also save cluster resources to support a large number of concurrent queries. Therefore, this method is very useful when building large geographic information systems.

Indonesia is an archipelago country in which the tourism sector plays a role as an economic locomotive. In 2016, Indonesia joined the World Halal Tourism Award (WHTA) and won 12 awards, three of which were won by West Sumatra. Bukittinggi is the principal city of tourism in West Sumatra. There are many halal hotels and restaurants and 190 mosques available in the city. Unfortunately, the information regarding the mosque locations is still inadequate. For this reason, this research was conducted in order to develop a web-based and mobile-based geographic information system (GIS) for places of worship information (GPWI) to make it easier for Muslim tourists to find mosques, and other tourism objects and facilities. This paper reports on the development of the GPWI. The development of the GPWI employed the waterfall method. The GPWI allowed tourists to find mosques based on specific criteria, whose output showed them the location, information, route, and local transportation available to get to the mosques as well as other tourism objects and facilities around the mosque. The GPWI was developed using Free Open Source Software (FOSS) PostgreSQL/PostGIS, PHP, JavaScript, and Basic4Android. The spatial-based database and programs that were used to develop this GPWI are the main contributions of this study. Based on the product evaluation, the GPWI successfully met the needs of Muslim tourists in finding mosques during their visits to Bukittinggi.

O carvão do amendoim, causado pelo fungo Thecaphora frezzii, foi relatado pela primeira vez na Argentina em meados da década de 1990, e desde 2015 tem sido considerada uma das principais doenças do amendoim. Uma vez que o fungo é principalmente disperso pelas sementes, e considerando que o Brasil regularmente importa sementes da Argentina, foi observada a necessidade de iniciar o monitoramento da presença desse fungo no Brasil, de modo a evitar que está doença venha a causar prejuízos aos produtores brasileiros. Dessa forma, o objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar o desenvolvimento do banco de dados que foi criado para organizar as informações relativas ao mapeamento das áreas de produção de amendoim do Brasil quanto a distribuição do agente causal do carvão do amendoim. Foi utilizado o Sistema Gerenciador de Bancos de Dados (SGBD) PostgreSQL com extensão espacial PostGIS. Para apresentação dos dados foi desenvolvido um sistema de informação Web, na linguagem de programação Java que, a partir do servidor de mapas GeoServer, mostra a distribuição das amostras analisadas por município. Diferentes cores foram usadas para permitir a rápida visualização dos municípios onde a presença do patógeno foi confirmada ou não. Além de permitir a visualização da distribuição das amostras pelos interessados, o desenvolvimento do presente banco de dados será útil em estudos futuros visando entender melhor a dinâmica de dispersão do patógeno.

Over the last decade, scientific research has been increasingly focused on the third dimension in all fields and especially in sciences related to geographic information, the visualization of natural phenomena and the visualization of the complex urban reality. The field of 3D visualization has achieved rapid development and dynamic progress, especially in urban applications, while the technical restrictions on the use of 3D information tend to subside due to advancements in technology. A variety of 3D modeling techniques and standards has already been developed, as they gain more traction in a wide range of applications. Such a modern standard is the CityGML, which is open and allows for sharing and exchanging of 3D city models. Within the scope of this study, key issues for the 3D modeling of spatial objects and cities are considered and specifically the key elements and abilities of CityGML standard, which is used in order to produce a 3D model of 14 buildings that constitute a block at the municipality of Kaisariani, Athens, in Level of Detail 2 (LoD2), as well as the corresponding relational database. The proposed tool is based upon the 3DCityDB package in tandem with a geospatial database (PostgreSQL w/ PostGIS 2.0 extension). The latter allows for execution of complex queries regarding the spatial distribution of data. The system is implemented in order to facilitate a real-life scenario in a suburb of Athens.

The Italian coastline stretches over about 8350 km, with 3600 km of beaches, representing a significant resource for the country. Natural processes and anthropic interventions keep threatening its morphology, moulding its shape and triggering soil erosion phenomena. Thus, many scholars have been focusing their work on investigating and monitoring shoreline instability. Outcomes of such activities can be largely widespread and shared with expert and non-expert users through Web mapping. This paper describes the performances of a WebGIS prototype designed to disseminate the results of the Italian project Innovative Strategies for the Monitoring and Analysis of Erosion Risk, known as the STIMARE project. While aiming to include the entire national coastline, three study areas along the regional coasts of Puglia and Emilia Romagna have already been implemented as pilot cases. This WebGIS was generated using Free and Open-Source Software for Geographic information systems (FOSS4G). The platform was designed by combining Apache http server, Geoserver, as open-source server and PostgreSQL (with PostGIS extension) as database. Pure javascript libraries OpenLayers and Cesium were implemented to obtain a hybrid 2D and 3D visualization. A user-friendly interactive interface was programmed to help users visualize and download geospatial data in several formats (pdf, kml and shp), in accordance with the European INSPIRE directives, satisfying both multi-temporal and multi-scale perspectives.

Abstract. The paper investigates the capability to integrate the surface and subsurface 3D spatial objects data structure within the 3D spatial data infrastructure (3D SDI) based on the CityGML standards. In fact, a number of countries around the world have started applying the 3D city models for their planning and infrastructure management. While others are still working toward 3D SDI by using CityGML standards. Moreover, most of these initiatives focus on the surface spatial objects with less interest to model subsurface spatial objects. However, dealing with 3D SDI requires both surface and subsurface spatial objects with clear consideration on the issues and challenges in terms of the data structure. On the other hand, the study has used geospatial tools and databases such as FME, PostgreSQL-PostGIS, and 3D City Database to generate the 3D model and to test the capability for integrating the surface and subsurface 3D spatial objects data structure within the 3D SDI. This paper concludes by describing a framework that aims to integrate surface and subsurface 3D geospatial objects data structure in Oman SDI. The authors believe that there are possible solutions based on CityGML standards for surface and subsurface 3D spatial objects. Moreover, solving the issues in data structure can establish a better vision and open new avenues for the 3D SDI.

Bằng cách cho phép chọn lọc, tích hợp và biểu diễn dữ liệu cũng như thực hiện các hoạt động phân nhóm đơn biến hoặc đa biến trên nền bản đồ web, người sử dụng không cần có một phần mềm chuyên dụng vẫn sẽ có một cái nhìn sâu hơn về sự phân bố của dữ liệu theo không gian, cũng như sẽ tìm thấy các nhóm dữ liệu có đặc tính tương đồng. Để minh họa cho ý tưởng này, một hệ thống WebGIS đã được xây dựng trên nền các phần mềm mã nguồn mở GeoServer, OpenLayers. Dữ liệu đưa vào hệ thống là dữ liệu thống kê từ Cục Thống Kê Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh và lớp dữ liệu ranh giới hành chính của Tp. Hồ Chí Minh. Các dữ liệu này được tổ chức và lưu trong cơ sở dữ liệu PostgreSQL-PostGIS. Thông qua hệ thống WebGIS này người sử dụng với những hiểu biết nhất định về phân tích dữ liệu không gian hoàn toàn có thể thực hiện hoạt động phân tích dữ liệu thống kê và biểu diễn chúng trên nền bản đồ theo mục đích của mình.

Abstract Makassar city experiences many residential fire disasters during the last years. One of the causes of fires is difficult to overcome due to the firefighters’ late response. The number of fires occurred due to the ineffectiveness of the fire fighting road, obstructed by traffic conditions, in its operation. Developing a geospatial route analysis can help firefighters quickly find the best route to a fire point to overcome this problem. Geospatial route analysis is currently a key role in emergency responses for urban fire disasters. A routing system can provide network analysis that allows users to navigate between source and destination points. In this case, the system can help firefighters to arrive as quickly as possible. On complicated road networks, some impedance factors would slow down drivers on a particular road. This study aims to provide firefighters from the base stations to residential fire disaster locations. The method used in the studies is Dijkstra’s algorithms to calculate weights of the impedance factors to optimal routing based on length of the road, speed drive, and traffic conditions. Implementation of routing analysis using open source geospatial software, PostgreSQL as database management system with PostGIS, and pgrouting as extensions. The modeling results show that the optimal route selection with speed parameters based on road classification has a low weight value. Therefore, it can be used as a reference for selecting a firefighter’s routing.

<p>Este artigo apresenta a construção de um Sistema de Informação Geográfica (SIG), disponível na <em>web</em>, como ferramenta para divulgar informações atualizadas sobre o agronegócio do babaçu no estado do Piauí, Brasil. O SIG GeoBabaçu foi desenvolvido utilizando a plataforma GeoServer e foi composto de duas partes:1) site<em> web</em> que mostra informações gerais sobre o babaçu e sobre os municípios produtores; 2) banco de dados geográficos com a disponibilização dos mapas da distribuição espacial do babaçu nos municípios pesquisados. Na construção do Banco de Dados Geográficos foram utilizados o sistema gerenciador de banco de dados PostgreSQL 9.3 + PostGIS 2.1., em conjunto com o Sistema de informação Geográfica QGIS. Para o mapeamento da distribuição espacial do babaçu foram selecionados os 25 municípios que apresentaram produção média mínima de cinco toneladas de amêndoas entre os anos de 2006 e 2013. Foram utilizadas imagens RapidEye, ortorretificadas com resolução espacial de 5 metros, composição R5G4B3 para a geração dos mapas. As imagens foram segmentadas e classificadas no <em>software </em>eCognition 8.7 e reclassificadas manualmente no módulo ArcMap do ArcGis<em> </em>10.2.2, com o apoio de imagens do Google Earth Pro 7.1.5.1557. O levantamento dos dados de localização dos babaçuais foi realizado utilizando equipamentos GPS de navegação com precisão de 10 metros. The GeoBabaçu SIG was developed using the GeoServer platform and was composed of two parts: 1) web site that shows general information about the babassu and about the producing municipalities; 2) geographics database with the map of spatial distribution of babassu in the cities surveyed. In the construction of the databases geographic was used the system database manager PostgreSQL 9.3 + PostGIS 2.1, in conjunction with the QGIS Geographic Information System. For the mapping of the spatial distribution of babassu, the 25 municipalities that had a minimum average production of five tons of almonds between 2006 and 2013 were selected. To the mapping were used RapidEye images, orthorectified, with spatial resolution of 5 meters and composition R5G4B3. The image segmentation and classification processes were performed with eCognition software 8.7 and after were reclassified manually in ArcGis module 10.2.2, supported by images from Google Earth Pro 7.1.5.1557. The survey of the location data of the babassu area was performed with equipment GPS navigation with accuracy of 10 meters. National Biodiversity Characterization at Landscape Level, a project jointly sponsored by Department of Biotechnology and Department of Space, was implemented to identify and map the potential biodiversity rich areas in India. This project has generated spatial information at three levels viz. Satellite based primary information (Vegetation Type map, spatial locations of road & village, Fire occurrence); geospatially derived or modelled information (Disturbance Index, Fragmentation, Biological Richness) and geospatially referenced field samples plots. The study provides information of high disturbance and high biological richness areas suggesting future management strategies and formulating action plans. The study has generated for the first time baseline database in India which will be a valuable input towards climate change study in the Indian Subcontinent. <br><br> The spatial data generated during the study is organized as central data repository in Geo-RDBMS environment using PostgreSQL and POSTGIS. The raster and vector data is published as OGC WMS and WFS standard for development of web base geoinformation system using Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). The WMS and WFS based system allows geo-visualization, online query and map outputs generation based on user request and response. This is a typical mashup architecture based geo-information system which allows access to remote web services like ISRO Bhuvan, Openstreet map, Google map etc., with overlay on Biodiversity data for effective study on Bio-resources. <br><br> The spatial queries and analysis with vector data is achieved through SQL queries on POSTGIS and WFS-T operations. But the most important challenge is to develop a system for online raster based geo-spatial analysis and processing based on user defined Area of Interest (AOI) for large raster data sets. The map data of this study contains approximately 20 GB of size for each data layer which are five in number. An attempt has been to develop system using python, PostGIS and PHP for raster data analysis over the web for Biodiversity conservation and prioritization. The developed system takes inputs from users as WKT, Openlayer based Polygon geometry and Shape file upload as AOI to perform raster based operation using Python and GDAL/OGR. The intermediate products are stored in temporary files and tables which generate XML outputs for web representation. The raster operations like clip-zip-ship, class wise area statistics, single to multi-layer operations, diagrammatic representation and other geo-statistical analysis are performed. This is indigenous geospatial data processing engine developed using Open system architecture for spatial analysis of Biodiversity data sets in Internet GIS environment. The performance of this applications in multi-user environment like Internet domain is another challenging task which is addressed by fine tuning the source code, server hardening, spatial indexing and running the process in load balance mode. Abstract. Quality control (QC) of geospatial data is relevant to urban territorial management to ensure accurate data for government to make strategic decisions when planning cities. The acquisition and control of geospatial data in the Brazilian government must follow INDE - National Data Spatial Infrastructure - through the Technical Specifications. The cadastral cartography from urban areas in Brasilia was updated and divided into 10 areas. Acquired data includes classes, features, attributes and metadata on 1:1,000 scale. High resolution images and LIDAR data were used to assist the QC process. The first step of the QC was to check positional accuracy. Samples were applied for each class in the mapping block with 4% rate on the feature random selection and all features class had the same level of confidence. Then, three stages were automatically verified: logical consistency, commision and attribute thematic accuracy evaluations. The process also includes the visual interpretation for omission and classification, which involves a certain subjectivity. Everything was executed with QGIS, FME, Erdas Imagine, Postgresql, PostGIS and a plugin specifically developed for that, the DSGTools. The results show that in general, the quantity of errors were low. However, many errors were detected in the elements completeness and thematic accuracy, specially in áreas 1, 2, 3, 6 and 9. In the opposite, the logical consistency and positional accuracy presented the lowest quantity of errors, which does not diminish the relevance of these errors, since it compromises the usability of the data.
