One of the areas of industry in Konya which needs to be analyzed regarding effective factors on competition is hotel industry. Accordingly, the current research tries to analyze factors impacting on the industry using Porter's five forces model. According to this model, an industry is affected by five competitive forces and these forces determine the state of competitiveness and profitability of an industry. Porter’s model is based on the insight that a corporate strategy should meet the opportunities and threats in the organizations external environment. Especially, competitive strategy should base on and understanding of industry structures and the way they change. Porter has identified five competitive forces that shape every industry and every market: entry of new investors, threat of substitutes, bargaining power of buyers, bargaining power of suppliers, and rivalry among existing competitors. Porter’s model supports analysis of the driving forces in an industry. Based on the information derived from the Five Forces Analysis, management can decide how to influence or to exploit particular characteristics of their industry. This study aims to analyze the competitiveness at Konya Hotel Industry by using Porter’s Five Forces Model. In this study, questionnaires have been used for data collection. The statistical population of the research consists of managers of hotel business (Senior, middle, executives).

The information technology (IT) sector represents a phenomenon of modern society, which has led to a favorable change in the economic course, in most countries of the world. This study aims to establish the attractiveness of the IT industry in Romania, as well as the factors that led to the development of the competitive environment, through a strategic diagnosis using a tool for strategic analysis and diagnosis - the model of the five forces, developed by Michael Porter. The results of the study indicate that all five strengths of Michael Porter's model exert significant influence, but in different proportions, on the competitive environment and the degree of attractiveness of the IT industry. Although Porter's model offers a clear strategic frame of the IT industry, it is quite static, and the manifestation of the five forces does not maintain its validity over time.

Prominent tools for assessing and managing risk include risk cubes, risk burndown charts, and automated risk management software. They are generally lacking, however, in accommodating ideation and brainstorming to identify potential problems. A suggested approach for improving the process is to apply strategic management models currently used as commercial best practices. Many are directly applicable and adaptable to systems engineering processes including risk management. This article presents traditional risk tools and introduces a complementary management model tailored to the identification, scoring, and tracking of potential program threats. Additional management models are presented for further investigation and adaptation.

There are many stakeholders in the vascular marketplace from clinicians to hospitals, third party payers, medical device manufacturers and the government. Economic stress, threats of policy reform and changing health-care delivery are adding to the challenges faced by vascular surgeons. Use of Porter's Five Forces analysis to identify the sources of competition, the strength and likelihood of that competition existing, and barriers to competition that affect vascular surgery will help our specialty understand both the strength of our current competition and the strength of a position that our specialty will need to move to. By understanding the nature of the Porter's Five Forces as it applies to vascular surgery, and by appreciating their relative importance, our society would be in a stronger position to defend itself against threats and perhaps influence the forces with a long-term strategy. Porter's generic strategies attempt to create effective links for business with customers and suppliers and create barriers to new entrants and substitute products. It brings an initial perspective that is convenient to adapt to vascular surgery in order to reveal opportunities. Vascular surgery is uniquely situated to pursue both a differentiation and high value leadership strategy.

There are five competitive forces that influence the Industry. Industry competition affects business performance, so companies must adapt to changing environments to maintain a competitive position. One of the ways to win the competition is to use a strategy. Strategy allows organizations to gain a competitive advantage from three different foundations namely: cost leadership, differentiation and focus. Strategic planning can help to develop an early warning system to avoid threats or develop strategies that can turn threats into profits for the company. Thus the strategy can maximize competitive advantage on the one hand, and can minimize the limitations of competing. The question is; How do laws and regulations affect Porter's five competitive forces and the three generic strategies? This research is a qualitative analytical descriptive study using secondary data, and the unit of analysis is the prevailing laws and regulations in Indonesia. The results of this study; consistently statutory regulations (laws) influence the five competitive forces and three generic strategies put forward by Porter.

The object of research of this article is the natural gas industry of China, special attention is paid to competitive strength. Michael Porter's models cover many issues of the competition problem. The authors use M. Porter's five competitive forces to analyze China's gas industry. Together, these five factors influence the attractiveness of the industry and the decisions of competitive strategies in its place. Changes in various combinations of the five forces ultimately affect changes in the potential profit of the industry. The authors reveal the space of competitive forces, the competitive environment in the gas industry of the People's Republic of China, identified the driving and restraining forces of the gas industry of the People's Republic of China. The main conclusions of the study are: the main driving force in the gas industry in China comes from buyers, the restraining force in the gas industry in China mainly comes from the main competitors of the industry. China's economic development, demand for clean energy and increasingly advanced technologies for the development and use of natural gas are driving the development of China's gas industry. The raw materials of gas in China are highly dependent on imports, the construction of the infrastructure of the gas industry is difficult and expensive, and the efficiency of the use of the built gas industry is insufficient. Identification and analysis of the driving and binding forces of the industry, and the development of countermeasures are especially important to ensure the sustainable development of the industry.

PurposeThe paper models the effect of spatial clustering on various dimensions of inter-firm competitive rivalry among port logistics firms using Porter's five forces model.Design/methodology/approachA survey-based quantitative approach is adopted to collect data from logistics firms, which are directly or indirectly dependent on the Port of Melbourne in Australia. A structural equation modelling (SEM) technique is used to examine the theorised relationships between various dimensions of inter-firm competitive rivalry and the tendency of spatial clustering of logistics firms in the vicinity of Port of Melbourne.FindingsThe results indicate that the inter-firm competitive rivalry increases significantly when logistics firms are spatially clustered. This effect is further augmented when they cluster around the port. Co-location of firms near the port tends to increase “bargaining power of buyers”, whilst indirectly affecting “competitive rivalry” via “threats of substitutes”. This indicates that co-location enhances the bargaining power of buyers through the greater availability of substitute services that in turn promotes competitive rivalry among firms. However, co-location has an insignificant effect on “barriers to entry” and “bargaining power of suppliers”. Low entry barrier thus favours high competitive rivalry among firms. Hence, this paper validates the Porter's cluster and five forces models that confirm the positive effect of port logistics clusters (PLCs) on bargaining power of buyers and indirect effect on competitive rivalry partially mediated through threats of substitutes.Practical implicationsThis study provides empirically grounded evidence for firms to evaluate co-location decision choices and help buyers and sellers to devise business strategies to enhance inter-firm competitive rivalry and bargaining power.Originality/valueThis is the first systematic attempt to empirically validate Porter's five forces model in the context of PLC. Furthermore, the conceptualisation of PLC concept both as spatial and functional constructs (i.e. dependency on port) is novel. This study thus has broadened the meaning of cluster from a geographic entity to a more useful functional construct to reflect inter-firm dependencies.

This study aims to determine the product differentiation strategy, the competitive strategy with porter's five forces analysis, the company's condition using SWOT analysis, and customer satisfaction with the SERVQUAL dimension in lodging services Malang. The research subjects are lodging services in Malang that market their products using the RedDoorz and OYO platforms. The subjects of this research include Omega Guest House, Bunga Cengkeh Homestay, Aurila Homestay, and Kina Family Residence. Data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively with Porter's Five Forces analysis, SWOT analysis and SERVQUAL dimensions. The study results indicate that the lodging service sector in Malang is almost entirely only implementing a differentiation strategy based on price and service. The SWOT analysis results show the second quadrant point, strategy diversification, which means this position proves that a business is strong but faces big challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic. So you have to prepare a business strategy that has been prepared based on the results of the company's SWOT analysis. Business owners in the field of services such as lodging in Malang must give full attention to customers because when the level of satisfaction is high it will not rule out the possibility, the visitor will return at another time, this full attention is called service quality or SERVQUAL

The question of why some firms succeed whilst others fail even though they operate in the same industry, have similar sizes and face the same market conditions continue to attract research attention. Strategic management addresses this question in part and contends that the explanatory factors for such phenomenon is accounted for by how firms strategically align their internal capacity to the changing trends from their external environment especially political and competitive forces. The paper draws on two strategic management frameworks (i.e., PESTLE and Porter's five forces) to explain why Fidelity survived, but UT failed in the recent environmental turbulence which bedeviled the banking sector of Ghana though both started just about the same time and had similar size. In line with the assumptions of the two frameworks above, the present paper argues that the failure of UT bank and the survival of Fidelity Bank is accounted for by how each bank aligned its internal capacity to the regulatory and competitive forces that hit the banking industry. The paper employs secondary information (e.g., financial reports, web materials, newspaper articles), coupled with the PESTLE and Porter's five forces frameworks to explain the issue. The findings are that whilst the internal capacity of Fidelity Bank (e.g., its capital adequacy) was aligned to the regulatory demands of the Bank of Ghana, UT's internal conditions were so fragile that they failed to satisfy the regulator's demands in the deregulation. Following from the results of the study, implications on theory, practice and public policy are suggested.

The forces that influence profitability in this industry is an essential part of strategic planning for any boiler and heat exchanger manufacturer that aims to control competition risk and optimize profitability. This research aims to break down and analyze the influences that industry manufacturers, market entrants, purchasers, component and raw material suppliers, foreign imports, technological advances, government policies, industry organizations, and future trends have on the profitability of industry players. While it was found that the level of competition in the industry is moderate, rapid advances in technology, increasingly stringent government policies on emission standards and boiler and heat exchanger efficiencies, as well as growing import competition may catalyze industry competition in the near future. The use of Porter’s five forces in this analysis suggests the need to consider the significance of technology and the challenges posed by imports through increasing globalization, as these factors could substantially change and disrupt the industry by reducing barriers to entry and by raising the threat of substitutes. As a result, the boiler and heat exchanger manufacturing landscape in the US could become much more competitive, which in turn, could diminish returns for industry operators. This could also change the structure of the industry with the inception of industry players that offer differentiated products and services. The question for industry groups and policy-makers is to what extent should these five forces be influenced, since the degree of support for or of counteraction to these forces will guide the future competitiveness and marketization of the boiler and heat exchanger manufacturing industry in the US.

Applying Porter's methodology of the well-known five competitive forces to analyze the nature of competition, this article seeks to demonstrate that the competitive advantages obtained by the companies are a function of the structure of the industry and the strategies developed by the intervening companies. To this end, we analyze the Peruvian print journalism sector, that of non-specialized newspapers, exponents of a formal style of presentation of information and aimed at traditional readers, a segment made up of: El Comercio, Expreso, La Republica and La Nación. The results show that, of the five competitive forces, the most relevant for the segment studied are the high barriers to entry, mainly due to the high levels of investment and know-how required; the permanent possibility of substitution by television and radio; and the bargaining power of clients, exercised by distribution agents and advertisers. It can be said that there are two aspects on which the newspapers analyzed have developed their competitive advantages: the barriers created and the positioning achieved.

The increasing number of MSMEs in Indonesia creates even more competition among businesses, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. This difficult situation causes a decline in revenue and forces MSMEs in Indonesia to find strategies to survive. This study aims at helping an MSME in the shoe laundry industry called Suci Shoelab. This study employs qualitative and business coaching methods. The data were collected through interviews with the MSME owners and the employees as well as questionnaires given to customers. Several analytical methods, namely Business Model Canvas (BMC), Porter's Five Forces analysis, PESTEL analysis, Service Marketing Mix, SWOT analysis, TOWS analysis, Gap analysis, and Pareto Analysis, were used to identify the problems and generate solutions. The findings revealed that the MSME had not promoted its products consistently and the location of Suci Shoelab was unknown to many potential customers. The MSME improved the promotional activity and placed signage to enhance its physical evidence to address this issue. Sales promotions and digital/internet marketing were also used for the promotional mix, and discount prices and drop stations were applied as promotional programs. For increasing its physical evidence, the MSME placed signage at the store to attract potential customers. After the solutions were applied, the sales of the MSME increase.

Purpose – In manufacturing industries, the levels of inventories at all stages (i.e. raw material, work-in-process and finished goods inventories) indicate the firm's competitive positioning, strategies, internal processes and relationships with suppliers and downstream customers. The authors identify patterns of manufacturing industries based on levels of raw material and finished goods inventories to classify inbound and outbound supply chain strategies. Design/methodology/approach – The authors review literature on supply chain inventory strategy and perform cluster analysis to analyze patterns of manufacturing industries based on manufacturing industry data collected from US Census of Bureau. Following Porter's Five Forces Model, the authors perform in-depth case studies of four representative industries to analyze factors driving supply chain strategies, including industry intensity of rivalry, threat of new entrants, threat of substitutes, bargaining power of suppliers, and bargaining power of buyers. Findings – This study identifies three streams of research on supply chain strategy: Fisher's model and its variations, lean and agile paradigms, and push/pull systems. It finds that whether an industry shows low or high raw materials or finished goods inventories depending on its products, processes, and the dynamics of all forces described in the Five Forces Model. Research limitations/implications – This study is not able to include supplier selection, production strategies, warehousing and distribution, and even product design into the analysis of supply chain strategy due to data limitation. This study classifies industries based on average inventory levels of raw materials and finished goods, while inventory levels and supply chain strategies for specific firms may vary significantly within each industry. Originality/value – This study contributes to the supply chain management literature by providing a parsimonious framework of mapping inbound and outbound supply chain inventory strategies, and the results based on the analyses of all US manufacturing industries provide a baseline picture for supply chain management professionals with manufacturing firms.

SUMMARY We propose a new audit supplier competition construct, the Office-Client Balance (OCB), which consists of the relative abundance of competing audit offices and audit clients in a metropolitan (metro) area. From this construct, we derive a metro level audit competition proxy reflecting surpluses or shortfalls of total metro audit office numbers relative to the national metro OCB norm: the OCB_TOT. Consistent with the predictions of Porter's Five Forces theory, we find that OCB_TOT is associated with lower fees, more auditor turnover, and more (less) office exits (entrances) in metro audit markets. These findings validate OCB_TOT as a proxy for audit market competition. Our results indicate that greater metro level competition among auditors (more positive OCB_TOT) is associated with higher audit quality, proxied by fewer financial statement misstatements. Several additional analyses suggest that OCB_TOT is useful in explaining clients' choices of local (versus remote) audit offices and Big 4 (versus non-Big 4) offices. Data Availability: Data used in this study are available from public sources. JEL Classifications: G18; L10; M42.

This paper investigates the factors influencing the intensity of local competition. The research results may be of interest to companies if deciding whether to enter a market or by defining a new market. Understanding which factors impact the competition the most also helps to address these factors when dealing with competitors and other subjects. The studied factors were selected based on Porter's model of five competitive forces. The data were obtained from the World Economic Forum database. To analyze the data, the statistics software PSPP and the programming language Python with statistical package Statsmodels were used. The results were considered to be statistically significant if they were on significance level p ≤ 0.05. The finding is that higher competition intensity is positively influenced by the number of local suppliers, foreign competition, intellectual property protection, and negatively by spending on research and development. This research may serve as a guideline for companies. If a company is entering a new market, the results presented in this paper may help to assess the intensity level of local competition by identifying the most influential factors.
