Kronika miasta Pornic by Czesław Miłosz: Polemic with the worldview and historiosophy of Juliusz Słowacki In the article an infterpretation of A Chronicle of the Town Pornic is presented, focusing on the polemic between Milosz and ideas of mystical Juliusz Słowacki. The author points out the differences between Milosz’s and Slowacki’s concept of history. A Chronicle of the Town Pornic in its understending of history bears a striking resemblance to Paul Ricoer’s idea highlighting the importance of finding a middle path between extreme individuality and viewing history only in the global perspective. An important part of the article consists of reflections on why Milosz chose Genezis from the Spirit as a matter of polemic instead of any other work by mystical Slowacki. Keywords: Czeslaw Milosz, Juliusz Slowacki, A Chronicle of the Town Pornic, history, Ricoeur, poetry

This paper describes a natural clay, the Pornic clay, in accordance with the yield state and critical state concepts. The author has carried out a series of axisymmetrical triaxial tests on a natural overconsolidated clay and has clearly shown the yield state curve of the material; the curve is defined as the intersection of the yield state and "overconsolidated state" surfaces. The stress-strain paths are plotted either in the original p′-q-ε-v diagram or in the normalized diagram where the stresses are defined with respect to the preconsolidation pressure [Formula: see text], thus allowing one to characterize the reciprocity of the stress and strain paths and to follow their evolution mainly near the yield state curve. Key words: clay, yield state, overconsolidated state, stress path, strain path.

Thymus ×porcii is a natural hybrid between T. pannonicus and T. pulegioides, occurring within the co-occurrence range of its parental species in the forest and forest-steppe zones of Europe. Taxonomy and nomenclature of this hybrid present a longstanding puzzle due to the lack of critical evaluations of the original material as well as conflicting taxonomic interpretations of the parent taxa both at specific and intraspecific levels. The present paper attempts to clarify these issues, arguing against the synonymic treatment and/or consolidation of T. pannonicus and T. pulegioides, which is accepted in modern taxonomies apparently as a result of nomenclatural confusion related to T. pannonicus typification. Based on morphology and reported molecular data, it is proposed to treat T. pannonicus and T. pulegioides as separate species, each containing two varieties being well-distinguished by the presence or absence of leaf indumentum: T. pannonicus var. latifolius (glabrous leaves) and T. pannonicus var. pannonicus (pubescent leaves), and T. pulegioides var. pulegioides (glabrous leaves) and T. pulegioides var. vestitus (pubescent leaves). In view of such treatment, T. ×porcii is divided into three nothovarieties, representing natural crosses between different varieties of the parent species. Namely, in addition to the typical T. ×porcii nothovar. porcii [T. pannonicus var. latifolius × T. pulegioides var. pulegioides] (with T. ×pilisiensis and T. ×goginae as the taxonomic synonyms), we describe a new nothovariety T. ×porcii nothovar. calvariensis [T. pannonicus var. pannonicus × T. pulegioides var. pulegioides], and propose a new nomenclatural combination T. ×porcii nothovar. opizii [T. pannonicus × T. pulegioides var. vestitus] based on the previously published name T. ×opizii. On the basis of original material examination, two collections from BP are designated here as the lectotypes of T. ×porcii (≡ T. ×porcii nothovar. porcii) and T. ×pilisiensis respectively, and one specimen from PR is designated as the lectotype of T. ×opizii (≡ T. ×porcii nothovar. opizii). Main diagnostic traits of T. ×porcii nothovarieties and their parental taxa are compared and discussed.

The caterpillar stage of the endemic Wiseana spp complex commonly known as porina are foliage feeders Research indicates that porina will feed on harakeke (Phormium tenax) red tussock (Chionochloa rubra) and hard tussock (Festuca novae zealandiae) In 1952 Miller reported that porina were abundant in kumara plantations and caused damage to the plants The accuracy of this observation is uncertain due to taxonomic changes and the ambiguous nature of Millers identification Feeding bioassays were undertaken to determine if porina caterpillars would feed on the leaves stems or tuber of the Owairaka kumara plant (Ipomoea batatas) using white clover foliage (Trifolium repens) as a control Over a 6week Porina provided with tuber had a weight increase of >01 g within the first two weeks which was a 122 gain (compared to clover) The leaves and stems supported less weight gain over the two week period (92 and 85 compared to clover respectively) These results suggest that porina can feed on kumara plants but further field testing will be required to support this claim

Background: The paper explored the mechanism of Poriaic acid-containing serum interfering with EMT and apoptosis of A549/DDP cells. The aim is to find experimental evidence of Poriaic acid intervening cisplatin resistance in lung cancer, searching for effective targets, and to explore the mechanism of cisplatin resistance in lung cancer. Material and methods: Immunochemistry and western blotting were employed to detect the effects of Poriaic acid-containing serum on the expressions of p-GSK-3β (ser9), Snail protein and mRNA in GSK-3β/Snail signaling pathway, and the effects of Poriaic acid-containing serum on the expressions of EMT markers and related apop-totic factors. Results: The results of immunoblotting and immunocytochemistry rendered that the expressions of p-GSK-3β (ser9), Snail protein and mRNA decreased in the administration group as contrast to the blank group. As to the effect of Poriaic acid-containing serum on EMT markers, the immunoblotting results showed that the E-cadherin protein and mRNA expressions increased while the expressions of N-cadherin protein and mRNA decreased. Poriaic acid-containing serum can up-regulate the expressions of P53, Bax protein and mRNA, and down-regulate the expressions of Bcl-2 protein and mRNA. Conclusion: Poriaic acid-containing serum can affect EMT and apoptosis of A549/DDP cells by interfering with GSK-3β/Snail signaling pathway.

Porina (Wiseana spp) a complex of seven species three with two haplotypes are intractable pests on many New Zealand farms Regional differences in species composition and timing of caterpillar development impact on porina control At Glencorran Station Manawatu porina moth flights were monitored using a light trap from 2012/13 to 2015/16 The most common species trapped was W copularis W signata was also regularly collected Both species flew from October to March but the main flight period occurred in late February/ early March and consisted almost entirely of northern haplotype W copularis The time of peak flight means the most cost effective control strategy application of diflubenzuron against young caterpillars should be undertaken in June several months later than traditionally considered for most porina prone areas Furthermore caterpillars from the late flights will attain large size in July/August which may coincide with low porina feeding deterrent and toxin production by the AR37 ryegrass endophyte Consequently when caterpillars are most voracious protection of ryegrass plants by the endophyte is at a low ebb and may help explain why some AR37 ryegrass pastures especially in colder areas are damaged by porina

At the turn of the seventeenth century, the members of the originally Friulian Porcia family entered the service of the Habsburg rulers. By marrying into the noble families of Lamberg and Raunach, they came into the possession of the seigniories of Senožeče and Prem in Carniola, thus fortifying their position for a career ascension in the Habsburg monarchy. Their loyal service was rewarded in 1662, when Emperor Leopold I raised his first minister and former tutor, Johann Ferdinand Count von Porcia, to the rank of prince. The unified seigniory of Prem and Senožeče passed through the ownership of fifteen princes of Porcia until 1906, when the family sold its estate, thus ending its three-hundred-years-long presence in Carniola. One of its most famous members was Hannibal Alphons Prince of Porcia (1679–1738), whose probate inventory from 1740 provides a unique insight into the room-by-room inventory of the condition and movable property of Prem Castle during the period when it was in the hands of the Porcia family.

Mass rearing Wiseana (porina) species, a major endemic insect pest in New Zealand pastures, has proved challenging for research and pest management and has presented problems over several decades in the laboratory. Researchers have acknowledged that handling the eggs and first instar larvae are of critical importance during laboratory rearing. A simple method is presented that improves survival of early instar porina larvae. Eggs of three porina species (W. cervinata, W. copularis, W. umbraculata) hatched faster at 22˚C than at 15˚C.

Porina (Wiseana spp. Viette (Lepidoptera: Hepialidae)), regularly damage pastures on the South Island’s West Coast but local information useful for mitigation strategies is lacking. Flight activity of porina moths was monitored on 11 farms in the region using light traps over three summers from 2014—2017. Pastures on the same farms were sampled during winter (2015—17) to collect porina larvae. Porina moth flights typically began in October and continued through into March with peak flight activity from early December to mid-January. Wiseana copularis comprised >85% of moths captured. Wiseana umbraculata was caught regularly, representing about 10% of total catch. Observed flight patterns indicated that diflubenzuron for larval control should be applied from late February to early or mid-March for maximum impact on porina populations but exact timing should be driven by local not regional flights. Wiseana copularis was the most common species collected in pastures (265 of 267 larvae collected). One W. jocosa larva was found in 2015 and one W. umbraculata larva in 2016. No W. cervinata adults or larvae were identified. This suggests the species primarily responsible for damaging these pastures is W. copularis.

Detailed studies on the lichen genus Porina in Macaronesia have led to a reappraisal of the genuine identity of Porina atlantica (Erichsen) P. M. Jørg., a characteristic species that has previously been confused with P. guaranitica, P. heterospora, P. nucula, P. mastoidea or P. rhodostoma in the literature, and is here reported from Madeira, the Canary Islands, Ireland, France and Portugal. Two new species are described: P. effilata Brand & Sérus. sp. nov. (known from Madeira, the Canary Islands, Great Britain, Ireland and Portugal) and P. ocoteae Brand & Sérus. sp. nov. (restricted to La Palma, Canary Islands, and São Jorge in the Azores). Porina leptospora Nyl. is recognized at the species level, and P. isidiata Kalb & Hafellner is reduced into synonymy with P. atlantica. A key to all known species of Porina in Macaronesia is provided.

Background and aims – Despite the publication of a recent checklist for Mauritius, a small archipelago in the south-western Indian Ocean, our knowledge of the lichen flora of this region remains incomplete. The present contribution is part of an ongoing study of lichen diversity of the islands of Mauritius and Rodrigues. It aims to unravel the diversity of the genus Porina s.l. on these islands and to improve the taxonomy and the phylogeny of the family Porinaceae following the morphological study and the sequencing of recently collected material.Material and methods – Lichens were collected in 2016 and 2019 in a range of environments, from lowland dry habitats up to dense evergreen upland forests on the islands of Mauritius and Rodrigues. In total, 85 samples of Porina were examined using light microscopy. A molecular study using mtSSU sequences was performed in order to investigate the phylogenetic position of the species of Porina occurring in the study area.Key results – The analyses revealed the presence of 23 species of Porina s.l. in Mauritius, while only four were previously accepted for this country. Five new species are described: Porina covidii, P. griffithsii, P. mauritiana, P. nuculoides, and P. rupicola, while two sterile species remain unidentified. The mtSSU phylogenetic tree includes 19 of the 23 species occurring in Mauritius. These species are dispersed throughout the phylogenetic tree, in at least eight main and strongly supported lineages, suggesting multiple colonizations of Mauritius. A new lineage only including Paleotropical and mainly foliicolous species (P. epiphylloides, P. longispora, P. mauritiana, and P. mazosioides) is revealed. Pseudosagedia crocynioides, a species that was previously known only from Florida, is newly reported from Mauritius, highlighting a remarkable disjunct distribution. Photos of each taxon are provided, along with an identification key to all species. Conclusion – The study of the genus Porina in Mauritius highlights a rich flora. The true diversity of Porina species in the south-western Indian Ocean is certainly underestimated and in need of further investigation, while a taxonomic-phylogenetic revision of tropical Porina at a broader geographical scale is highly desirable. The identity of several Mauritian specimens remains uncertain despite the use of molecular data.

As far as today’s civilization development environment is concerned, man is living in an uninterrupted sound environment. Everywhere he is accompanied by a multitude of sounds and noises of varying intensity, having more or less violent effects on his hearing and his health. We can define noise as a representation of the sound vibration, not having a systematic attribute that is transmitted through various environments (air, water etc.) and that sensitizes the human ear negatively. In the Larousse dictionary, noise is a harmless sound system. Scientists with a specialization in physics characterize noise as a chaotic overlap with different frequencies and intensities, and physiologists appreciate the noise as any disturbing sound that causes an unpleasant sensation. It is proposed to revitalize the portico on street Ion Câmpineanu number 25, which hosts the entrance to a music shop. At present, it is a non-hostile and dark space dominated by massive pillars and shades of gray. Intervention involves the creation of a dynamic and interactive space in which the passageway is stimulated visually, tactile and auditory. With this solution, we want the public space in the studied area to develop a particular ambiance and vibration, allowing passers-by, hearing a harp melody, or even creating one’s own.

AbstractBased on collections gathered by H. Streimann and J. A. Elix in Papua New Guinea, Australia (including Tasmania), and Vanuatu, five new foliicolous lichen species are described: Calenia bullatinoides Lücking, Eremothecella cyaneoides Lücking, Fellhanera tasmanica Lücking & Elix, Fellhaneropsis australiana Lücking, and Porina vanuatuensis Lücking. In addition, the following new combinations are proposed: Coenogonium isidiiferum (Lücking) Lücking [Bas.: Dimerella isidiifera Lücking], Coenogonium lisowskii (Vězda) Lücking [Bas.: Dimerella lisowskii Vězda], Coenogonium queenslandicum (Kalb & Vězda) Lücking [Bas.: Dimerella queenslandica Kalb & Vězda], Echinoplaca tetrapla (Zahlbr.) Lücking [Bas.: Gonolecania tetrapla Zahlbr.], and Porina subepiphylla var. australiensis (Lücking & Vězda) Lücking [Bas.: Porina lucida var. australiensis Lücking & Vězda]. Coenogonium piliferum (Vězda) Kalb & Lěcking [Bas.: Dimerella pilifera Vě zda] is placed into synonymy with Coenogonium epiphyllum Vain. An updated checklist of foliicolous lichens from Australia includes 202 species and excludes five previously reported taxa.

Two new species of Porina are presently described as new to science in the frame of a corticolous lichens survey in the Atlantic rainforest of Pernambuco State, in Northeastern Brazil. The type locality, known as Brejo dos Cavalos, is a so-called Brejo de Altitude, an Atlantic forest fragment located in the municipality of Caruaru, in the middle of the semiarid Caatinga: Porina ochraceocarpa Sobreira, Aptroot & M. Cáceres, with small, free, pale brown ascomata and fusiform 3-septate ascospores of 30–32 × 4.5–5 μm., and Porina purpurata Sobreira, Aptroot & M. Cáceres, with hemispherical thallus-covered ascomata that are mostly centrally covered with red, K+ purple pruina, and fusiform (3–)7-septate ascospores of 50–55 × 10–11 μm. The discovery of these unique taxa emphasizes the importance of thorough surveys of the lichen biota in the Atlantic rainforest of Brazil, a very biodiverse and threatened biome.

Porticoes are intermediary spaces with an important urban role. Although they are first of all spaces of passage, meant to protect the passers-by from bad weather conditions, through their configuration they also become social spaces, negotiating the relationship between street and the (usually) public functions along them. This article presents the short research and the interventions proposed by the participants at the workshop having as a theme: “Bucharest. Valorising the intermediary space of the porticoes”. The theme opened to discussion was that of valorising the porticoes on Ion Câmpineanu Street, in Bucharest, porticoes that now hardly meet their main function of protecting the people that cross them (much less auxiliary functions), being disagreeable and abusively occupied by extensions of the commercial spaces they separate from the street. After a short introduction of the event and the context of its unfolding, the article points to the role of the porticoes in the urban configuration and at a social level as well. Then we shortly present the actual status of the Bucharest porticoes (including those studied at the workshop), and at the end we publish the four projects proposed by the multidisciplinary teams of participants.

The outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria contains a large number of channel-forming proteins, porins, for the uptake of small nutrient molecules. Neisseria gonorrhoeae PorBIA (PorB of serotype A) are associated with disseminating diseases and mediate a rapid bacterial invasion into host cells in a phosphate-sensitive manner. To gain insights into this structure–function relationship we analysed PorBIA by X-ray crystallography in the presence of phosphate and ATP. The structure of PorBIA in the complex solved at a resolution of 3.3 Å (1 Å=0.1 nm) displays a surplus of positive charges inside the channel. ATP ligand-binding in the channel is co-ordinated by the positively charged residues of the channel interior. These residues ligate the aromatic, sugar and pyrophosphate moieties of the ligand. Two phosphate ions were observed in the structure, one of which clamped by two arginine residues (Arg92 and Arg124) localized at the extraplasmic channel exit. A short β-bulge in β2-strand together with the long L3 loop narrow the barrel diameter significantly and further support substrate specificity through hydrogen bond interactions. Interestingly the structure also comprised a small peptide as a remnant of a periplasmic protein which physically links porin molecules to the peptidoglycan network. To test the importance of Arg92 on bacterial invasion the residue was mutated. In vivo assays of bacteria carrying a R92S mutation confirmed the importance of this residue for host-cell invasion. Furthermore systematic sequence and structure comparisons of PorBIA from Neisseriaceae indicated Arg92 to be unique in disseminating N. gonorrhoeae thereby possibly distinguishing invasion-promoting porins from other neisserial porins.

AbstractPorina is a widely distributed, species-rich genus of crustose, lichen-forming fungi, some with thalline outgrowths that have been recognized as isidia. We studied three taxa with thalli consisting chiefly of ascending isidioid structures occurring on trunks and branches of Taxodium in southwestern Florida, and provide details of their structure with light and electron microscopy. Two of these taxa we describe as new species: P. microcoralloides and P. nanoarbuscula. Genetic sequences (mtSSU) suggest that they are closely related to each other, yet they differ markedly in the size, morphology and anatomical organization of their isidioid branches as well as in the length of their ascospores. In the three Floridian taxa studied, the crustose portion of the thallus is partly endophloeodic and partly superficial, the latter often patchy, evanescent or inconspicuous, and completely lacks the differentiated anatomical organization characteristic of the isidioid structures arising from it. In Porina microcoralloides, the ascendant thallus consists of branched, coralloid inflated structures with phycobiont (Trentepohlia) unicells arranged at the periphery of a loose central medulla. Sparse fungal cells are interspersed and overlie the algal layer in places, but no differentiated cortex is present, leaving phycobiont cells more or less exposed at the surface. In the closely related Porina nanoarbuscula, the isidioid structures are much finer, more densely branched, and composed of a single, central file of roughly spherical Trentepohlia cells surrounded by a jacket of subglobose fungal cells. The ascospores of P. microcoralloides are more than twice the length of those of P. nanoarbuscula. Although thalli of these two Porina species occur in the same habitats and are sometimes found growing alongside each other, phylogenetic analysis of rbcL sequences suggest that they partner with distinct clades of Trentepohlia phycobionts. A third taxon examined, Porina cf. scabrida, is morphologically rather similar to P. microcoralloides, but the ascendant branches are bright yellow-orange, more cylindrical, and corticated by a thin layer of agglutinated fungal hyphae; perithecia were not seen. Analysis of mtSSU sequences places it distant from P. microcoralloides and P. nanoarbuscula phylogenetically. None of the Floridian taxa studied was particularly close to the European isidiate species Porina hibernica and P. pseudohibernica, which appeared as sister to each other in the analysis. While a particular type of isidiose structure may be reliably characteristic of specific taxa, similarities or differences in these structures do not seem to be useful indicators of phylogenetic proximity or distances among taxa. The morphological trends evident in Porina suggest that multiple transitions from crustose to isidioid or microfruticose growth have arisen repeatedly and in quite different ways within this single genus. At least some of the diverse structures treated within the broad concept of isidia may be representative of the developmental pathways by which fruticose growth forms may arise.
