Yine [ˈjine] (previously known as Piro, ISO 639-3 = pib) is a Maipuran language (Payne 1991, Campbell 1997, Solís Fonseca 2003). See Payne (1991) and Campbell (1997) for discussion of the relationship of the Maipuran (or Maipurean) languages to the controversial Arawakan stock. There are approximately 3,000 speakers of Yine in the Peruvian Amazon. People in Brazil and Bolivia known as Manchineri (alternative spellings exist; ISO 639-3 = mpd) also speak a dialect of Yine (Urquía Sebastián 2006a).

The Resource Description Framework (RDF) is the primary language to describe information on the Semantic Web. The deployment of semantic web search from Google and Microsoft, the Linked Open Data Community project along with the announcement of schema.org by Yahoo, Bing and Google have significantly fostered the generation of data available in RDF format. Yet the RDF is a computer representation of data and thus is hard for the non-expert user to understand. We propose a Natural Language Generation (NLG) engine to generate English text from a small RDF graph. The Natural Language Generation from Graphs (NLGG) system uses an ontology skeleton, which contains hierarchies of concepts, relationships and attributes, along with handcrafted template information as the knowledge base. We performed two experiments to evaluate NLGG. First, NLGG is tested with RDF graphs extracted from four ontologies in different domains. A Simple Verbalizer is used to compare the results. NLGG consistently outperforms the Simple Verbalizer in all the test cases. In the second experiment, we compare the effort spent to make NLGG and NaturalOWL work with the M-PIRO ontology. Results show that NLGG generates acceptable text with much smaller effort.

As línguas Apurinã, Piro e Iñapari, membros da família lingüística Aruák, são inicialmente comparadas com base nos dados utilizados na reconstrução de Payne (1991), e nas correspondências fonológicas apresentadas em Facundes (2000, 2002). A partir das evidências de agrupamento dessas três línguas, cognatos especificamente relacionados à fauna e flora Aruák são estabelecidos. Utilizando-se dos resultados encontrados na comparação, três questões são examinadas: o que as retenções lexicais indicam sobre o lugar dessas línguas dentro da família Aruák? Com base nos cognatos identificados, quais conceitos da flora e fauna provavelmente podem ser reconstruídos para estágios anteriores no desenvolvimento dessas três línguas a partir de uma língua ancestral? E, finalmente, quais inferências podem ser feitas sobre o passado desses povos com base na semântica da fauna e flora reconstruída?

Résumé Le but de ce travail est la reconstruction des lignes essentielles du débat sur la psychopathologie du langage et sur le rôle théorique qu’il a joué dans les sciences du langage d’aujourd’hui. Pour simplifier ce débat, qui commence à partir du XIXe siècle et continue encore aujourd’hui, on distingue ici deux grandes orientations. La première est représentée par les analyses du langage dans la psychiatrie clinique classique (de Emil Kraepelin jusqu’aux études récentes de Sergio Piro) et dans le cognitivisme (de Kurt Goldstein jusqu’à la neuropsychologie cognitive de la schizophrénie). La deuxième recueille les recherches de la psychiatrie philosophique: le bergsonisme (Eugène Minkowski, Pierre Janet), la phénoménologie et l’existentialisme (Heidegger et l’an-thropoanalyse de Ludwig Binswanger). De ce débat on examine surtout deux problèmes théoriques: le rapport entre régularité et liberté du langage et la définition des idées de ‘puissance’ et ‘complexité’. Dans la discussion on conclue l’impossibilité d’esquisser une théorie cognitive du langage en dehors de ses bases biologiques et, surtout, de la dimension ontologique de la conscience linguistique.

Political discourse, in years marked by the transition from the Second to the Third Republic, appears to be dominated by the imperative of animos impellere. As recent studies on Italian political language have pointed out (Librandi and Piro 2016, Cortelazzo 2016, Antonelli 2017, Ondelli 2021), political leaders achieve this objective by increasing their contentious tone and substantially lowering their linguistic register, especially in face-to-face interaction or in the social media. An exception to this trend can be found in the letters written to newspapers by political leaders to clarify their political positions or to reply to polemical positions expressed by the newspaper itself. Those letters are short argumentative texts, addressed to a wide audience, particularly suitable for political positioning or repositioning in crucial moments of the debate or in view of possible changes in the political situation. This article examines the letters of four protagonists of Italian politics (Silvio Berlusconi, Matteo Renzi, Giorgia Meloni and Matteo Salvini), using the discourse analysis theories from the French School.

Code mixing of two or more languages has become a common phenomenon in Nepali folk pop songs. In this context, this study discussed the phenomenon of mixing multilingual terms in Nepali folk pop songs and the reasons for mixing such codes from other languages. This qualitative phenomenological study along with situation analysis used documents and unstructured interviews as the data collection tools. I selected 12 Nepali folk pop songs purposively for analysis. They include Baduliko Khutko (“Sound of a Hiccup”), Champa (“Champa girl”), “Hello Hello”, Meri Chhoretti (“My Girl Friend”), Mudda Haldincchu (“File a Case”) and Rato Rato Khursani Piro Chha (“Red, Red Pepper Hot”), Chorut Salkauane (“Light a Cigarette”),“Cocacola Figure” and DJ Bajako (“Playing DJ”), Daru Sadkaune (“Gulping Local Wine”) and Hi Kali (“Hello Beauty”), and Tension Naleu Yaar (“Don’t be in Tension, Friend”). These songs were played in the audio laboratory to identify the multilingual terms used by the Nepali composers and musicians in Nepali folk pop songs and analyzed in terms of the phenomenon of code mixing. Two language teachers and one folk pop singer were interviewed to explore the reasons for code mixing. The result shows that the young generation is mostly attracted towards the folk pop songs with code mixing, and such songs become popular among the youths due to their multilingual flavour. Nepali folk songs have been influenced by the postmodernist tradition, fashion and technological influence. The trend of code mixing in Nepali folk pop songs may lose the linguistic purity thereby resulting linguistic hybridity.

The paper discusses feasts, food stuffs and food offerings offered to deities during the ceremony of free-hold establishment-sima-in the Mataram Kingdom in Ancient Java according to inscriptions in the Old Javanese language of the 9th 10th centuries. Food stuffs and goods listed in the text may reveal a common cultural tradition of offerings and/or be formulae fixing a certain amount of these offerings. Not only Ancient Javanese words were used to refer to animals, but also Sanskrit borrowings. The term kumol may mean “a lamb dish”. H.B. Sarkar’s and A.V. Zavadskaya's translations of Old Javanese epigraphy wrongly translate the terms v3as pada and bras pada as ‘unpeeled rice’ but the correct meaning is “husked rice”.

L’Algérie est considérée comme un pays plurilingue en raison de la présence sur son territoire d’un ensemble de langues et dialectes tels que le tamazight, le chleuh, l’arabe dialectale et surtout le français entre autres. Or, il se trouve que toutes ces « langues » ne jouissent pas d’un statut bien déterminé au regard de la politique linguistique algérienne, et ce pour des raisons souvent non déclarées. Et pire encore, dans la politique linguistique éducative algérienne on ne fait mention que de la langue arabe, le tamazight et de certaines langues étrangères. Ce qui nous pousse à débattre dans cet article de l’importance et de la place qu’occupe les langues étrangères et plus particulièrement le français dans la loi d’orientation de l’éducation nationale algérienne ainsi que de l’impact de l’identité sociolinguistique dans l’apprentissage du français langue étrangère. Abstract Algeria is considered a multilingual country because of the presence on its territory of a variety of languages and dialects such as tamazight, chleuh, Arabic dialect and especially French among others. However, it turns out that not all of these "languages" enjoy a welldefined status in Algerian language policy for often undeclared rea-sons. Worse still, in The Algerian educational language policy only mentions the Arabic language, Tamazight and certain foreign lan- guages. This leads us to debate in this article the importance and place of foreign languages and especially French in the law of orientation of Algerian national education as well as the impact of sociolinguistic identity in learning French as a foreign language.

I argue in this article that the scholiast's claim (schol. in Pi.O.6.88) that Pindar was ἰσχνόφωνος meant that he was believed to be a stammerer rather than a weak-voiced person. I have attempted to show how later commentators developed some points of Alexandrian critics’ judgement of Pindar's poetry into a conventional biographical reference to the poet's speech defect.

Normal Speech and Language Development Language consists of any symbol system for the storage and exchange of information. It commonly is described in terms of auditory expressive and receptive ability (speech and listening comprehension, respectively). However, language also is conveyed visually. Normal infants attend to gestures and initiate various gestures to make their needs known; visual language development in deaf infants exposed to a formal sign system, such as American Sign Language (ASL), parallels the stages of oral language development in hearing infants;1 and reading and writing are obvious manifestations of visual language in older children and adults. Precursors to auditory and visual language are readily observable from earliest infancy. Because these precursors lack symbolic value, they are termed prelinguistic. AUDITORY EXPRESSIVE LANGUAGE Human infants produce a uniform sequence of prelinguistic utterances, regardless of the language spoken by their adult caretakers. The earliest of these utterances is cooing, which consists of musical, open vowel sounds. Cooing should be well established within the first 4 to 6 weeks of life. This is followed in the first few months of life by bilabial sounds: blowing bubbles or the "raspberry." By 5 months, laughing and a variety of monosyllables appear, such as "ba" or "ga." Between 6 and 8 months, infants produce polysyllabic babbling, which consists of the same syllable repeated over and over: "lalalalala," "mamamamama," "dadadadada," and so forth.

Background. The importance of biliteracy in bilingual children’s development has been widely investigated and discussed for the last several decades, suggesting beneficial effects of writing and reading in two languages for bilingual children as well as for adult second language learners. Objective. To analyze research on the link between bilingualism and literacy development in two or more languages and the factors that may influence a successful or problematic biliteracy acquisition. RQ (1): What is the relationship between bilingualism and literacy of bilingual children? RQ (2): What strategies are used to develop biliteracy? Design. The review analyzes 50 studies of literacy development in bilingual children. The selected articles have been separated based on their methodology: 25 articles gave a critical analysis of more than 1,100 studies on the topic, strengthening the theoretical basis of existing research, and 25 other articles were empirical research articles demonstrating practical evidence for the former. Results. Our analysis revealed that literacy in bilinguals, or biliteracy, can be seen as a necessary condition for fluent development of bilingualism, though it is not a necessary condition (which is explained by the difference between structures of specific languages and writing systems, instruction in literacy, and cognitive baggage invoked by the task used to measure the skill) (Bialystok, 2002). Research suggests that bilingualism impacts children’s ultimate acquisition of literacy via the beneficial effects of bilingualism overall: advanced biliteracy boosts the development of phonological and phonemic awareness and metacognitive abilities. Thus, biliteracy can be considered as an advantage in terms of maintaining bilingual acquisition in general and developing writing skills in particular. Conclusion. There is a lack of studies on the development of writing skills in different educational contexts, across countries and cultures, which must be addressed and complemented by new empirical research. Research will enable policymakers to improve educational programs in accordance with the needs of bilingual children, who are the majority in the current global population.

The goal of this research is to explain the word formation, prefix, of the Mongondow language. The method used in this study is a taxonomic descriptive method, namely exposure by classifying language elements according to hierarchical relationships. The results of the research show word formation patterns are done by adding prefixes, infixes, suffixes, confixes, and clitics. In this pattern of word formation, a morphophonemic process occurs, resulting in new forms like phoneme modifications or deletions. Reduplication and compounding procedures can also result in word formation patterns. As a result of forming words with these patterns a new class of words is formed. The focus of this research is to reveal the prefix in Mongondow Language. The result show there are Prefix {moN-}, {mo-}, {no-},{poN-}, {ko-} ,{mopo-}, {nopo-}, {popo-}, {moko-}, {noko-}, {poko-}, {mogi- , {nogi-}, {pogi-}, {mojiN-}, {pongiN-}, {moki-} {poki-}, {moliN}, {noliN-}, {moi-}, {noi-}, {monoN-}, {nonoN-}, {mopoko-}, {nopoko-}, {mopopo-}, {mopoko}, {poro-} , {pinoro-}, {pinoro-}, {pino-}, {pinopo-}, {poR-}, {toR}, {kinoR-} iand those prefixes depict process with root morphemes functions and form specific categorical word class

Early programming models for software-defined networking (SDN) focused on basic features for controlling network-wide forwarding paths, but more recent work has considered richer features, such as packet scheduling and queueing, that affect performance. In particular, PIFO trees , proposed by Sivaraman et al., offer a flexible and efficient primitive for programmable packet scheduling. Prior work has shown that PIFO trees can express a wide range of practical algorithms including strict priority, weighted fair queueing, and hierarchical schemes. However, the semantic properties of PIFO trees are not well understood. This paper studies PIFO trees from a programming language perspective. We formalize the syntax and semantics of PIFO trees in an operational model that decouples the scheduling policy running on a tree from the topology of the tree. Building on this formalization, we develop compilation algorithms that allow the behavior of a PIFO tree written against one topology to be realized using a tree with a different topology. Such a compiler could be used to optimize an implementation of PIFO trees, or realize a logical PIFO tree on a target with a fixed topology baked into the hardware. To support experimentation, we develop a software simulator for PIFO trees, and we present case studies illustrating its behavior on standard and custom algorithms.

Background. Prosocial behavior is the key component of social and interpersonal relations. One of the elements of prosociality is helping behavior, which emerges already in early childhood. Researchers have identified several domains of helping behavior: instrumental helping, comforting another person, and sharing resources with others. The development of helping behavior can depend on a number of factors: children’s age, the social situation of development, communication skills, and the ability to understand the feelings and needs of another person. Objective. In Study 1, the main goal was to determine the effects of age and cognitive, language, and motor development on instrumental helping skills in early childhood. The goal of Study 2 was to estimate the effects of rearing in an adverse social environment by comparing the capacity for instrumental helping in family-raised and institutionalized children. Design. The authors examined toddlers’ (N=198) ability to initiate spontaneous helping and the factors that may influence it. Cognitive, language, and fine motor skills were measured by the Bayley Scales of Infant and Child Development, 3rd edition. Children’s instrumental helping behavior was assessed according to the procedure presented by Warneken and Tomasello, with a few modifications. Results. Study 1 demonstrated that children’s ability to initiate helping was dependent on their age: the non-helpers were significantly younger than the helpers. Children’s language skills also played a significant role in their helping behavior. The children with higher language skills helped the adult more often and more quickly. Study 2 demonstrated that institutional placement per se was not related to toddlers’ ability to initiate helping. Language ability was associated with helping behavior both in institution- and family-reared toddlers. Conclusion. This study aims to describe the question system sentence of Tontemboan language based on its form, propositional function, and the meaning it refers to. This study used a qualitative method with a descriptive design. Based on the results of the research, the form of question sentences in the Tontemboan language can be classified into three types, namely (1) interrogative sentences marked by the use of interrogative words: sapa, sei, kawisya, ambisya, pira, kitu, and kensya, (2) question sentences marked by the use of interrogative intonation, and (3) interrogative sentences marked by the use of question particles re'en and wei. Based on the proposition, Indonesian language question sentences are categorized into: (1) WH-question questions, (2) yes-no questions, and (3) questions commonly called alternatives. The function of the Tontemboan language question sentence, according to the meaning, referred to varied dependence on the form of the question used, question word, intonation, and question particle.

In the past 20 years, the prospects for hearing-impaired infants have improved significantly. It is now possible to diagnose deafness even in neonates and premature infants and to provide care that can prevent or ameliorate some of the most devastating effects of hearing loss. There have been steady advances in surgical and other medical procedures and in habilitation techniques. The value of many forms of therapy, however, depends greatly on how early intervention occurs. Approximately one in 1,000, or 0.1%, of all infants are severely to profoundly deaf; their problems are permanent and pervasive. An estimated four to ten times as many infants suffer from hearing loss that is either unilateral or less than profound. Hearing deficits affect language acquisition and consequently cognitive, social, and emotional growth. Behavioral and biologic evidence points to a critical time for linguistic development. Children normally master the language they hear around them by the age of 4 or 5 years, when they become competent to comprehend and produce all the variations of sentence construction found in adult speech. In this same period, deaf children can be taught sign language. The aptitude and flexibility for language acquisition diminishs with age. Early language deprivation results in permanent impairment. Infants suspected of having hearing loss can be evaluated by means of auditory-evoked potentials, recently developed technology available at audiologic facilities throughout the country.

In Renaissance philosophy, the term fabula is often used to mean a poetic or fantastic tale that conceals the truth beneath metaphorical language. This article will focus on a rather different concept of fabula found in Gianfrancesco Pico della Mirandola’s works. To the younger Pico, the entire tradition of Greek and Latin poetry is a fabula: that is, a false and immoral narration inspired by demons. In the first part of this article, I will trace the origin of this use of fabula to the early Christian apologists. I will argue that Gianfrancesco’s intention was to build on this idea through an interpretation of ancient thought that differed from the historiographical model of prisca theologia proposed by Marsilio Ficino and Giovanni Pico. In the second part, I will show the close relationship, in Gianfrancesco’s philosophy, between fabula and imaginatio.

Affix verbs in the Saluan language can be added to basic word or basic form in the form of verbs, nouns, adjectives, and numerals. The affix has various forms and functions. This study examines the forms and function of verb affixes in the Saluan language. Related with that, this paper aims to describe the forms and function of verb affixes in the Saluan language. The data of this study were obtained using the litterary method. The data is processed using the intralingual equivalent method through a change technique. The results of this study indicate that there are five verb affixes in the Saluan language, namely prefix, suffix, confix, infix, and combinations of affixes. There are nine verb prefixes, namely moN-, pino-, i-, o-, ba-, po-, ko-, maha-, and mompo-. The moN prefix has four allomorphs, namely mom-, mong-, mo-, and mon-. There are two verb suffixes, namely -onon and-kon. There are four verb confixes, namely kino-an, kina-mo, kina-anmo, and maha-an. The verb infix is only one, namely -in-. Different case with a combination of affixes. The combination of verb affixes is nine, namely moN-akon, moN-kon, moN-i, i-akon, i-kon, pino-akon, pinokon, i-i, -in-an, -in-akon, and iin-kon. There are five functions of the affix form, namely changing the word category in its basic form, forming bitransitive verbs, forming transitive verbs, reciprocal verbs, and forming passive verbs.

Definition Hearing is the usual channel for acquisition of this most important of human attributes, language. Language enables humans to communicate at a distance and across time and has played a decisive role in the development of society and its many cultures. Language is the major channel through which children learn about what is not immediately evident, and it plays a central role in thinking and cognition. Because speech is the chief vehicle for communication in all families (except those in which the parents are deaf), deafness is a profound handicap whose effects greatly transcend the inability to speak. Responsibility for detecting hearing loss in infancy rests on the primary physician, inasmuch as early diagnosis and appropriate habilitation will prevent the most serious consequences of infantile hearing loss: growing up without language. Two primary types of hearing loss are attributable to disease of the ear: conductive hearing loss, a deficiency in the transduction of energy in the form of sound waves in air to hydraulic waves in the inner ear; and sensorineural hearing loss, inadequate transduction of these waves to neural activity. Other disorders of hearing include cortical hearing impairment and perceptual disorders. Although much is said about perceptual disorders by educators, such disorders probably play a minor role in the genesis of learning disabilities and will not be addressed in this review, which focuses on severe-to-profound hearing losses.
