Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is an important complication in patients with malignant tumors. Its exact diagnosis and treatment are still lacking. We used a high-sensitive chemiluminescence method to detect thrombin–antithrombin III complex (TAT), plasmin-α2-plasmininhibitor complex (PIC), thrombomodulin (TM), and tissue plasminogen activator–inhibitor complex(t-PAIC) in combination with D-dimer and fibrin degradation product (FDP) to analyze their diagnostic and prognostic value in patients with malignant tumors. Methods: In total, 870 patients with confirmed malignant tumors were included, 82 of whom had diagnosed VTE; 200 healthy individuals were classified as the control group. The TAT, PIC, TM, and t-PAIC were detected using Sysmex HISCL5000 automated analyzers, whereas FDP and D-dimer were detected using Sysmex CS5100 coagulation analyzer. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to evaluate the diagnostic efficiency. Survival probabilities were determined using Kaplan–Meier analysis, and multivariate analyses were performed using a Cox regression model. Results: Compared with healthy controls, patients with malignant tumors showed significantly elevated TAT, PIC, TM, t-PAIC, D-dimer, and FDP. Similarly, compared with patients in the non-thrombosis group, those in the thrombosis group showed significantly elevated levels of the above mentioned markers. Logistic regression analysis showed that TAT, PIC, TM, t-PAIC, D-Dimer, and FDP were all associated with VTE. ROC analysis showed that “TAT+PIC+TM+t-PAIC+D-dimer+FDP”showed the highest sensitivity and specificity. Patients with elevated TAT, PIC, TM, and t-PAIC had a significantly shorter survival. Multivariate Cox survival analysis showed that TM and t-PAIC were significantly associated with poor prognosis. In addition, the incidence of VTE was significantly lower in patients with malignant tumors who were treated with low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH), and their survival period was significantly longer than that of patients with malignant tumors who were not treated with LMWH. Conclusion: TAT, PIC, TM, and t-PAIC combined with D-dimer and FDP were better than the application of a single marker in the diagnosis of VTE in patients with malignant tumors. TAT and PIC can be used as sensitive markers in the diagnosis of VTE but not as prognostic markers. TM and t-PAIC might be independent prognostic indicators in patients with malignant tumors, regardless of the state of thrombus.

AbstractThe paid-incurred chain (PIC) reserving method is a claims reserving method that allows to combine claims payments and incurred losses information in a mathematical consistent way. The main criticism on the original Bayesian log-normal PIC model presented in Merz–Wüthrich [5] is that it does not respect dependence properties within the observed data. In the present paper, we extend the original Bayesian log-normal PIC model so that dependence is modeled in an appropriate way.

Aim: Kynurenine metabolites are potential modulators of psychiatric disease. We aimed to develop a highly sensitive biochemical analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) tryptophan (TRP) metabolites, to investigate the stability of metabolites and to confirm our previous findings of aberrant CSF quinolinic acid (QUIN) and picolinic acid (PIC) in suicide attempters using this method. Methodology & results: Ten CSF TRP metabolites were analyzed with ultraperformance LC–MS/MS. The method showed small intra- and interassay variation. Metabolites were stable following freeze–thaw cycles. A decreased CSF PIC/QUIN ratio was found in suicide attempters. Conclusion: The feasibility of reliably determining CSF TRP metabolites were demonstrated, including separation of the two isomers PIC and nicotinic acid (NA) and the finding of a reduced PIC/QUIN ratio replicated in suicide attempters.

We propose in this paper a numerical particle type model PIC-MC (Particle-In-Cell Monte Carlo) for modeling plasma reactors in the case of DC discharge used for various industrial applications. The model is developed in the case of argon plasma at low pressure, generated in a reactor consisting of two flat electrodes parallel and spaced 3 cm. The collisions treatment is based on the “null collision” method. PIC-MC model can provide the plasma characteristics (potential, field and charge density) in inter-electrodes space, for all reactions in addition to collisions that may occur.

The particle-in-cell (PIC) method was developed to investigate microscopic phenomena, and with the advances in computing power, newly developed codes have been used for several fields, such as astrophysical, magnetospheric, and solar plasmas. PIC applications have grown extensively, with large computing powers available on supercomputers such as Pleiades and Blue Waters in the US. For astrophysical plasma research, PIC methods have been utilized for several topics, such as reconnection, pulsar dynamics, non-relativistic shocks, relativistic shocks, and relativistic jets. PIC simulations of relativistic jets have been reviewed with emphasis placed on the physics involved in the simulations. This review summarizes PIC simulations, starting with the Weibel instability in slab models of jets, and then focuses on global jet evolution in helical magnetic field geometry. In particular, we address kinetic Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities and mushroom instabilities.

Individual distribution constants (KD,A) of picrate ion (Pic−) and extraction constants (Kex±) of NaPic by some crown ethers (L) into benzene (Bz) at 25°C were calculated from data reported previously. These constants were defined asKD,Pic=Pic-o/[Pic-]andKex±=NaL+oPic-o/(Na+Lo[Pic-]), respectively. Here, the subscript “o” denotes an organic (o) phase and practically o = Bz. 15-Crown-5 ether (15C5), 18-crown-6 one (18C6), and their monobenzo (B) derivatives (B15C5 and B18C6) were selected as L. Interfacial equilibrium-potential differences (Δϕeq) at extraction were estimated at 298 K. A plot oflog⁡Kex±versus-Δϕeqfor the four L extraction systems gave a straight line with slope = 84 V−1. This slope was compared with those, reported before, of the dichloromethane (DCM), 1,2-dichloroethane (DCE), and nitrobenzene (NB) extraction systems. The slopes of the regression lines were in the order NB < DCM ≤ DCE < Bz. Also, the individual distribution constants of the complex ionNaL+and an ion-pair complex (NaL+Pic-) into Bz phase were calculated from the above extraction data. At least, a comparison between these values suggests that Bz molecules mainly interact withNaL+moiety ofNaL+Pic-.

This device enables to alert the owner whenever fire occur that need rapid attention towards the building. This is maybe due to carelessness of user or gas leakage. Fire warning system is an existing project but it will be enhanced. This project discussed the design and implementation of a fire alarm system using the microcontroller which controlled the entire system. This system comprised of smoke detector that linked to PIC and GSM Modem. When smoke detected, the fire alarm will triggered and send a signal to the PIC. The PIC will process the data and transmit the signal to the GSM modem. The GSM modem will send message to alert the building owner. The owner can make further action by informing the nearest fire department. This module is applied for transferring of GSM SMS message to the owner mobile number. The devices can be the early and fast prevention system for building owner.

Piceatannol (PIC) is known to have anticancer activity, which has been attributed to its ability to block the proliferation of cancer cells via suppression of the NF-kB signaling pathway. However, its effect on hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) is not well known in cancer. In this study, PIC was loaded into bovine serum albumin (BSA) by desolvation method as PIC–BSA nanoparticles (NPs). These PIC–BSA nanoparticles were assessed for in vitro cytotoxicity, migration, invasion, and colony formation studies and levels of p65 and HIF-1α. Our results indicate that PIC–BSA NPs were more effective in downregulating the expression of nuclear p65 and HIF-1α in colon cancer cells as compared to free PIC. We also observed a significant reduction in inflammation induced by chemical colitis in mice by PIC–BSA NPs. Furthermore, a significant reduction in tumor size and number of colon tumors was also observed in the murine model of colitis-associated colorectal cancer, when treated with PIC–BSA NPs as compared to free PIC. The overall results indicate that PIC, when formulated as PIC–BSA NPs, enhances its therapeutic potential. Our work could prompt further research in using natural anticancer agents as nanoparticels with possible human clinical trails. This could lead to the development of a new line of safe and effective therapeutics for cancer patients.

INTRODUCTION Positional installation of contrast cystography (PIC cystography) represents a new method to identify vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) that is unrevealed by standard diagnostic procedures. It is performed by radiological examination of the vesicoureteral junction during cystoscopic installation of the contrast medium at the ureteral orifice. OBJECTIVE We studied the significance of PIC cystography to demonstrate VUR that failed to be revealed by standard voiding cystourethrography (MCUG), as well as the degree of the correlation of such a finding with endoscopic appearance and the position of the ureteral orifice (UO). METHOD The aim of the paper was to analyze a sample of 5 children (4 girls and 1 boy), aged 6-15 years (mean 9.8 years) with recurrent febrile urotract infections, complicated with scarring changes of the renal parenchyma and normal findings on MCUG. The grade of VUR demonstrated by PIC cystography was classified using the standard hydrodistensional scale. RESULTS All 5 patients had VUR, disclosed by PIC cystography, of whom in 4 it was unilateral and in one bilateral. Of 5 patients, 4 had VUR grade I and one grade II. All the children with VUR detected by PIC cystography also had evident cystoscopic abnormalities in the position and/or configuration of the ureteral orifice at the same side, while at the side with normal finding on PIC cystography, the endoscopic finding was also within normal limits. CONCLUSION PIC cystography is the method of choice in the confirmation of VUR as the cause of recurrent urotract infection and its complications in children with a normal finding on standard MCUG. In all our patients with VUR verified by PIC cystography, at the same side we also revealed endoscopic changes in the position and/or configuration of UO.

Molar volumes (Vj) of ion-pair complexes (MLAz = j; z = 1, 2) and simple complex ions (CdL2+) without a pairing anion A&minus; obtained at 298 K from the plots of the regular solution theory and the geometrical relation Vj = (4&pi;/3)Rj3 were used for an estimation of their apparent radii (Rj) in liquid phases. Here, the cases for Mz+ = Li+-Cs+, Cd2+, and Pb2+ and L = 18-crown-6 ether (18C6) and benzo-18C6 (B18C6) with A&minus; = Cl&minus;-I&minus; and picrate ion (Pic&minus;) were examined. The thus-estimated Rj values were related to h(ML+), &lambda;max, and (r+ + r&minus;) values, where these symbols refer to the number of water molecules attached to the univalent complex ions, ML+, extracted into water-saturated nitrobenzene, absorption maxima of Pic&minus; with ML+ in water-saturated chloroform, and the sum in an effective ionic radius, r+ or r&minus;, between the central Mz+ and the pairing A&minus;, respectively. The data points of j = Li(18C6)Pic, Na(18C6)Pic, M(B18C6)Pic with M = Na-Rb(I), Cd18C62+, Cd(18C6)Cl2, Cd(18C6)Br2, and Cd(18C6)I2 showed larger deviations from the line of Rj = (r+ + r&minus;). While j = M(18C6)Pic with M = K-Cs(I) and M(18C6)Pic2 with Cd(II) and Pb(II) were on the line. It was demonstrated that essentially the former groups are present as water-separated and -shared ion pairs in the phases, while the latter ones as contact pairs.

Piceatannol (PIC) is a natural stilbene extracted from grape skins that exhibits biological activities such as antibacterial, antitumor, and antioxidant activities. The present study was carried out to further investigate the effect of PIC on the antibacterial activity of different antibiotics and to reveal the antibacterial mechanism of PIC. We found that PIC had an inhibitory effect against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus); its minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) were 128 μg/mL and 256 μg/ mL, respectively. Additionally, we measured the fractional inhibitory concentration (FIC) of PIC combined with antibiotics via the checkerboard method. The results showed that when PIC and ciprofloxacin (CIP) were combined, they displayed a synergistic effect against S. aureus. Moreover, this synergistic effect was verified by time–kill assays. Further, the results of the membrane permeability assay and proton motive force assay revealed that PIC could enhance the sensitivity of S. aureus to CIP by dissipating the bacterial proton motive force (PMF), particularly the ∆ψ component, rather than increasing membrane permeability. PIC also inhibited bacterial adenosine triphosphate (ATP) synthesis and was less likely to induce bacterial resistance but exhibited slight hemolytic activity on mammalian erythrocytes. In summary, the combination of PIC and CIP is expected to become a new drug combination to combat S. aureus.

Polyisocyanopeptide (PIC) hydrogels are proposed as promising wound dressings. These gels are thermo-sensitive, allow application as a cold liquid, and rely on gelation through body heat. It is supposed that the gel can be easily removed by reversing the gelation and washing it away with a cold irrigation solution. The impact on wound healing of the regular application and removal of PIC dressings is compared to a single application of PIC and the clinically used Tegaderm™ in murine splinted full-thickness wounds for up to 14 days. SPECT/CT analysis of 111In-labelled PIC gels showed that, on average, 58% of the PIC gel could be washed out of the wounds with the employed method, which is, however, heavily influenced by personal technique. Evaluation with photography and (immuno-)histology showed that wounds in which PIC dressings were regularly removed and replaced were smaller at 14 days post-injury but performed on par with the control treatment. Moreover, the encapsulation of PIC in wound tissue was less severe and occurred less often when PIC was regularly refreshed. In addition, no morphological damage related to the removal procedure was observed. Thus, PIC gels are atraumatic and perform similarly to currently employed wound dressing materials, offering possible future benefits for both clinicians and patients.

We discuss the particle-in-cell (PIC) method, which is one of the most widely used approaches for the kinetic description of plasmas. The positions and velocities of the charged particles take continuous values in phase space, and spatial macroscopic quantities, such as the charge density and self-generated electric fields, are calculated at discrete spatial points of a grid. We discuss the computer implementation of the PIC method for one-dimensional plasmas in the electrostatic regime and discuss a desktop application (PlasmAPP), which includes the implementation of different numerical and interpolation methods and diagnostics in a graphical user interface. To illustrate its functionality, the electron-electron two-stream instability is discussed. Readers can use PlasmAPP to explore advanced numerical methods and simulate different phenomena of interest.

Background: The artificial pancreas (AP) system, a technology that automatically administers exogenous insulin in people with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) to regulate their blood glucose concentrations, necessitates the estimation of the amount of active insulin already present in the body to avoid overdosing. Method: An adaptive and personalized plasma insulin concentration (PIC) estimator is designed in this work to accurately quantify the insulin present in the bloodstream. The proposed PIC estimation approach incorporates Hovorka’s glucose-insulin model with the unscented Kalman filtering algorithm. Methods for the personalized initialization of the time-varying model parameters to individual patients for improved estimator convergence are developed. Data from 20 three-days-long closed-loop clinical experiments conducted involving subjects with T1DM are used to evaluate the proposed PIC estimation approach. Results: The proposed methods are applied to the clinical data containing significant disturbances, such as unannounced meals and exercise, and the results demonstrate the accurate real-time estimation of the PIC with the root mean square error of 7.15 and 9.25 mU/L for the optimization-based fitted parameters and partial least squares regression-based testing parameters, respectively. Conclusions: The accurate real-time estimation of PIC will benefit the AP systems by preventing overdelivery of insulin when significant insulin is present in the bloodstream.

The first step in transcriptional activation of protein-coding genes involves the assembly on the promoter of a large PIC (pre-initiation complex) comprising RNA polymerase II and a suite of general transcription factors. Transcription is greatly enhanced by the action of promoter-specific activator proteins (activators) that function, at least in part, by increasing PIC formation. Activator-mediated stimulation of PIC assembly is thought to result from a direct interaction between the activator and one or more components of the transcription machinery, termed the ‘target’. The unambiguous identification of direct, physiologically relevant in vivo targets of activators has been a considerable challenge in the transcription field. The major obstacle has been the lack appropriate experimental methods to measure direct interactions with activators in vivo. The development of spectral variants of green fluorescent protein has made it possible to perform FRET (fluorescence resonance energy transfer) analysis in living cells, thereby allowing the detection of direct protein–protein interactions in vivo. Here we discuss how FRET can be used to identify activator targets and to dissect in vivo mechanisms of transcriptional activation.

There-fore, a job vacancy recommendation system is needed that can correct deficiencies in the list of vacancies that are displayed to users as job seekers. Abstract: Protection of an induction motor (IM) against possible problems, such as over voltage, over current, overload, over temperature, and under-voltage, occurring during its operation is very important, because it is used intensively in industry as an actuator. IMs can be protected using some components, such as timers, contactors, voltage, and current relays. This method is known as the classical method that is very basic and involves mechanical dynamic parts. Computer and programmable integrated circuit (PIC) based protection methods have eliminated most of the mechanical components. However, the computer-based protection method requires an analog to digital conversion (ADC) card, and the PIC-based protection method does not visualize the electrical parametersmeasured. In this study, for IMs, a new protection method based on a programmable logic controller (PLC) has been introduced. In this method, all contactors, timers, relays, and the conversion card are eliminated. Moreover, the voltages, the currents, the speed, and the temperature values of the motor, and the problems occurring in the system, are monitored and warning indicators are shown using colored LED’s. Experimental results show that the PLC-based protection method costs less, provides higher accuracy as well as a safe and visual environment compared with the classical, the computer, and the PIC-based protection systems. The simulation of glow discharge in N2 in a needle-plane configuration with PIC/MCC method is presented. In the discharge channel the electric field driven by space charges is solved by PIC method, and various collisions between particles are described with MCC method. The electric field intensity, the electric potential and the net charge distribution in the discharge area are obtained. The numerical results are consistent with the corresponding features of glow discharge. This work can provide references to further study of glow discharge.

Intravenous cannulation is an invasive procedure that causes stress, anxiety, and pain for many patients. A recent animal study found that exposure to green light induced antinociceptive and anxiolytic effects. This study examined whether green color exposure reduced stress, anxiety, and pain during peripheral intravenous cannulation (PIC) for sedation in dental patients. In this controlled clinical trial, 24 patients (mean age 40.9 years) were randomized to wear clear glasses or green-colored glasses for 15 min before PIC on two separate days in a cross-over manner. The primary outcome measures were salivary alpha-amylase (sAA) activity and stress-related hemodynamic changes, and the secondary outcome measures were the visual analog scale anxiety (VAS-A) and pain (VAS-P) scores during PIC. The sAA level in the clear group significantly increased during PIC compared with baseline, but did not increase in the green group. Median VAS-P scores during PIC were lower in the green group than in the clear group (VAS-P, 17.0 vs. 50.0). Green color exposure with glasses significantly reduced stress and pain during PIC without any adverse effects. This simple, safe, and effective method may be useful during painful medical procedures.

The objective of this work was to standardize a semiautomated method for genotyping soybean, based on universal tail sequence primers (UTSP), and to compare it with the conventional genotyping method that uses electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gels. Thirty soybean cultivars were genotypically characterized by both methods, using 13 microsatellite loci. For the UTSP method, the number of alleles (NA) was 50 (2-7 per marker) and the polymorphic information content (PIC) ranged from 0.40 to 0.74. For the conventional method, the NA was 38 (2-5 per marker) and the PIC varied from 0.39 to 0.67. The genetic dissimilarity matrices obtained by the two methods were highly correlated with each other (0.8026), and the formed groups were coherent with the phenotypic data used for varietal registration. The 13 markers allowed the distinction of all analyzed cultivars. The low cost of the UTSP method, associated with its high accuracy, makes it ideal for the characterization of soybean cultivars and for the determination of genetic purity.

Multi-hierarchy simulation models aimed at analysis of magnetic reconnection were developed. Based on the real-space decomposition method, the simulation domain consists of three parts: a magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) domain, a particle-in-cell (PIC) domain, and an interface domain to communicate MHD and PIC data. In this paper, the previous model (the 1D interlocking with the upstream condition) by the authors is improved to three types of new models, i.e., two types of the 1D interlocking with the downstream condition and one type of the 2D interlocking with the upstream condition. For their verification, simulations of plasma propagation across the multiple domains were performed in the multi-hierarchy models, and it was confirmed that the new interlocking methods are physically correct.

Speed Control of BLDC motor using PIC microcontrollers requires more hardware, and with the availability of FPGA versatile features motivated to develop a cost effective and reliable control with variable speed range. In this paper, an algorithm which uses the Resolver signals captured from the motor is developed with the help of Resolver to Digital converters. The program has been written using VHDL. This program generates the firing pulses required to drive the MOSFETs of three phase fully controlled bridge converter driven by drivers. Then the program has been loaded on the Spartan- 3 FPGA device and tested on the 30V, 2000 rpm BLDC motor which can make the motor run at constant speed ranging from 10 to 2000 rpm. The proposed hardware and the program are found to be very good and efficient. The results are good compare to PIC Microcontroller based design.

AbstractThe atmospheric composition measured at the Pic du Midi high-altitude observatory (2875 m MSL) in the French Pyrenees is frequently affected by upward transport of boundary layer air during anabatic circulations at different scales. The Pyrenean Platform for Observation of the Atmosphere (P2OA) includes two observatories located 28 km apart: at the Pic du Midi and at a low-altitude site (580 m MSL) located in the plain north of the mountain chain. From a 10-yr-long data series collected at P2OA, three different methods are used to detect thermally induced circulations. The methods are based on observations collected independently at three key locations in the plain–mountain circulation cell: within the altitude return flow above the plain, close to the surface in the plain, and at the mountaintop. The main aims are 1) to present and compare the three detection methods and 2) to evaluate the impact of thermally driven circulations on in situ air composition measurements at the Pic du Midi. The first method uses radar wind measurements at 3000 and 5000 m above the plain to detect the return flow of the plain–mountain circulation. The second, which is based on surface wind data from the plain site, reveals days during which surface thermally induced winds occur locally. The third method, which is based on surface data at the mountaintop, focuses on diurnal moisture cycles to rank days with decreasing anabatic influence. We then compare the three independent detection methods, discuss possible connections among thermal circulations at different scales and locations, and present an evaluation of their impact on in situ atmospheric composition measurements at Pic du Midi.

In this paper, we present Plasma Display Panel (PDP) cell discharge using a 1D Particle in Cell with Monte Carlo Collisions model. The effect of gas pressure on the PDP characteristics including current density, voltage margins and energy balance is then studied in order to show the optimized conditions to obtain more energy dissipated in xenon excitation. The results show, at first, the spatiotemporal variation of the electric field and charges densities. It is also seen that for more important gas pressure, there is an increase of the current density, voltage margins and the energy deposited into xenon excitation and ionization.

Abstract The current paradigm of cosmic-ray (CR) origin states that the greater part of galactic CRs is produced by supernova remnants. The interaction of supernova ejecta with the interstellar medium after a supernova's explosions results in shocks responsible for CR acceleration via diffusive shock acceleration (DSA). We use particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations and a combined PIC-magnetohydrodynamic (PIC-MHD) technique to investigate whether DSA can occur in oblique high Mach number shocks. Using the PIC method, we follow the formation of the shock and determine the fraction of the particles that gets involved in DSA. With this result, we use PIC-MHD simulations to model the large-scale structure of the plasma and the magnetic field surrounding the shock and find out whether or not the reflected particles can generate upstream turbulence and trigger DSA. We find that the feasibility of this process in oblique shocks depends strongly on the Alfvénic Mach number, and the DSA process is more likely to be triggered at high Mach number shocks.

Persistent inward current (PIC) plays a critical role in setting the gain of spinal motor neurons. In humans, most estimates of PIC are made from plantarflexor or dorsiflexor motor units in a seated position. This seated and static posture negates the task-dependent nature of the monoaminergic drive and afferent inhibition that modulate PIC activation. Our purpose was to estimate PIC during both the conventional seated posture and in a more functionally relevant anterior postural sway. We hypothesized that paired motor unit estimates of PIC would be greater when during standing compared with sitting. Soleus motor neuron PIC was estimated via the paired motor unit (PMU) technique. For each motor unit pair, difference in reference unit firing frequency (ΔF) estimates of PIC were made during isometric ramps in plantarflexion force during sitting (conventional approach) and during standing anterior postural sway (new approach). Baseline reciprocal inhibition (RI) was also measured in each posture using the poststimulus time histogram technique. ΔF estimates during standing postural sway were not different [2.64 ± 0.95 pulses/s (pps), P = 0.098] from seated PIC estimates (3.15 ± 1.45 pps) measured from the same motor unit pair. Similarly, reciprocal inhibition at the onset of each task was the same in standing (−0.60 ± 0.32, P = 0.301) and seated (−0.86 ± 0.82) postures. PMU recordings made during standing postural sway met all assumptions that underlay the PMU technique, including rate modulation ≥0.5 pps (3.11 ± 1.90 pps), rate-rate correlation r ≥ 0.7 (0.84 ± 0.13), and time between reference and test unit recruitment ≥1 s (1.83 ± 0.81 s). This study presents a novel, functionally relevant standing method for investigating PIC in humans. NEW & NOTEWORTHY Paired motor unit (PMU) estimates of persistent inward current (PIC) in human soleus motor units are typically made in seated posture. Our study demonstrates that these estimates can be made during standing forward sway, a task that more accurately reflects the postural role of human soleus muscle. PMU recordings made during standing postural sway were validated using all previously published criteria used to test the assumptions of the PMU technique. Standing estimates of PIC did not differ from seated estimates made from the same motor unit pairs.

The research method is a descriptive qualitative method by calculating antioxidant activity with UV-Vis spectrophotometer and acrylamide content by HPLC. The results showed that the levels of acrylamide produced from processing with different roasting levels were still below the tolerance limit and had strong antioxidant activity at various roasting levels with different processing methods. In this paper, the uplink information-coupled polar-coded sparse code multiple access (PC-SCMA) system is proposed. For this system, we first design the encoding method of systematic joint parity check and CRC-aided (PCCA) polar code. Using the systematic PCCA-polar code as base code, the partially information-coupled (PIC) polar code is constructed. Then, a joint iterative detection and successive cancellation list (SCL)-decoding receiver is proposed for the PC-SCMA system. For the receiver, the coupled polar decoder’s extrinsic messages are calculated by the Bayes rule and soft cancellation (SCAN) algorithm. Based on the extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) idea, the PIC PCCA-polar code is optimized. Simulation results demonstrate that the PIC PCCA-PC-SCMA system outperforms the other polar (or LDPC) coded SCMA systems at various code rates and channel configurations. Background: There has been a resurgence of interest in recent years in preoperative infusion cholangiography (PIC). The role of routine PIC compared to routine intraoperative cholangiography (IOC) has not been clearly defined.Study design: In our department between 1985 and 1991, 1,042 of 1,576 consecutive patients with biliary calculous disease had elective cholecystectomy: 694 patients were prospectively scheduled for PIC, and 348 patients were randomly allocated to IOC. The patients in the PIC and IOC groups were similar with regard to age, history of biliopancreatic complications, and laboratory findings. The cost of PIC in Sweden is nearly five times greater than the cost of IOC.Results: Satisfactory opacification of the biliary system was obtained in 90.1 and 96.8 percent of patients who underwent PIC and IOC, respectively. Preoperative infusion cholangiography required support by IOC in 19.5 percent of patients. There were no statistically significant differences between the PIC and IOC groups with regard to the incidence (7 percent in both groups) of or positive predictive value (68 and 80 percent, respectively) for bile duct stones, rate of retained stones (6 and 20 percent, respectively), intraoperative (5.6 and 6.3 percent, respectively) or postoperative (13.3 and 15.9 percent, respectively) morbidity, or incidence of bile duct anomalies (0.9 and 0.3 percent, respectively). Median operative time was longer in .patients with (95 minutes) compared to those without (75 minutes) IOC (p<0.001). More postoperative complications occurred after bile duct exploration (26 of 75 patients) compared to cholecystectomy alone (114 of 917 patients, p<0.001). The 30-day mortality was zero. Minor bile duct injuries occurred in two patients (0.2 percent) at cholecystectomy, (one with and one without bile duct exploration). In no patient was the cholangiographic finding of a biliary anomaly crucial for the safe execution of cholecystectomy.Conclusions: In our study, PIC and IOC were comparable, but routine use of either method did not promote the safety of cholecystectomy and thus their routine use is not warranted. The shorter operative time and preoperative identification of common bile duct (CBD) stones provided by PIC might favor this examination when applied selectively in patients with increased risk of having CBD stones. However, this potential advantage is offset by the need for PIC to be supported by IOC in approximately 20 percent of patients. Also, the cost of PIC is greater than the cost of IOC.
