This PhD work deals with the development of a thermodynamic model and its use in the modeling, simulation and optimization of phosphoric acid manufacturing processes. It consists of mass and charge balance equations, chemical equilibrium equations, and Pitzer’s model equation. The model involves several unknown parameters to be identified from experimental measurements available in a database developed in this work. It contains data on speciation of phosphoric and sulfuric acids, on solubility of ten minerals, and on water activity of eight binary systems. The measurements are performed under temperature conditions ranging from 298K to 353K and concentrations ranging from 0 mol/kg water to 20 mol/kg water. A global sensitivity based estimability analysis is then developed and used to evaluate the estimability of the unknown parameters from the available data. The estimable parameters are then identified, and the values of the non-estimable ones are taken from the literature or from previous studies. Additional experimental measurements, different from those used for the identification of parameters, are carried out to validate the model. The Fisher-Snedecor statistical test and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test are particularly used. The results of the tests confirmed the quality of the model predictions. The validated model is first exploited in the multi-objective optimization of an industrial unit of phosphoric acid production, in particular to minimize the chemical losses of phosphate and to improve of the performance of the unit. It is then used to investigate the fouling problems that occur during the production of phosphoric acid and alter the performance of different units of the manufacturing process. Finally, the model is exploited in the modeling and simulation of the crystallization of calcium sulfates during the production of phosphoric acid. The model thus validated and already exploited can now be used as a predictive tool for the design and optimal operation of existing phosphoric acid manufacturing processes, or even for the development of new processes which are more integrated and more efficient

Raw phosphoric acid issued from wet process needs to uptake more or less toxic impurities (Fe, Cd, F) for achieving food grade. A nanofiltration step applied to an intermediate fraction of the raw industrial acid ≤ 6 M H₃PO₄ was not selective enough. In order to identify transfer mechanisms, the speciation of trivalent Fe or divalent Cu cations was achieved in model solutions ranging from 5. 9 M concentrated to 0. 12 M aqueous phosphoric acid. For 1. 2 M – 5. 9 M acidic range, iron specie is anionic tétradihydrogénophosphato ferrate(III) only; its retention follows Donnan exclusion mechanism, usually working in non extreme pH solution, because co-ion chloride which migrates faster than the anionic complex was negatively-retained. For 0. 12 M, chloride retention becomes positive in good accordance with the predominant cationic specie dihydrogénophosphato fer(III) in equilibrium with hydrogénophosphato fer(III), and tétradihydrogénophosphato ferrate(III). This mechanism can be applied to dihydrogénophosphato copper(II) and Cu (II) species which are less retained than iron species. For raw phosphoric acid, chloride negative retention was observed again in good accordance with anionic predominant metal specie close to that of 5. 9 M model solutions

The main objective of this work is the valorization and the minimization of agro-industrial byproducts of straw and bran for the manufacture of activated carbon (AC). After a lab-scale optimization allowing the selection of the activation/carbonization parameters, we have produced effective AC and specified the influence of the operating conditions on their porous structure. We used TGA to establish the role of the chemical agent in the development of porosity. While manufactliring AC in a pilot scale furnace, we established that the pyrolysis gases are essential to obtain well-developed porosity AC, and showed that CO2 is directly responsible for the development of porosity. Lastly, we established that sugar decolorization depends on the volume of the mesopores ranging between 4 nm and 12 Dm. By testing our AC in water treatment, we showed that the pesticides adsorption capacities are related to the microporous volume
