Повний текст джерелаThis work, which is intended as a first step towards a new edition of Diomedes' 'Ars grammatica', offers the critical text and commentary of a portion of Book I of this manual, corresponding to the dissertation about the formation of the perfect, defective verbs and some irregular verbs (GL I 364, 10-388, 10). The introduction, organized in five chapters, offers first of all some issues concerning the author (chapter I) and his work in general, and an overview of its structure and contents, with particular attention to the characteristics related to its destination as a manual conceived for a Greek-speaking audience, for whom Latin was not the mother tongue (chapter II). The third chapter is devoted to the manuscript tradition of the 'Ars', with a census of the witnesses that preserve it in full, in part or in the form of extracts, and a description of the manuscripts on which the 'recensio' is based. The textual relationship between them is then discussed and a hypothesis of the reconstruction of the 'stemma codicum' is offered. The chapter closes with a history of the circulation of Diomedes' text that illuminates some moments of its early medieval diffusion, as well as its rediscovery in the humanistic age. The fourth chapter of the introduction is specifically dedicated to the section of the work of which the edition is offered, with insights into the sources found there and an exploration of the use of literary 'exempla', that deserve interest since they are very rare. The introduction closes with a formulation of the criteria of the critical edition. The critical text, corresponding to pages 364-388 of volume I of Keil's 'Grammatici Latini', is followed by a commentary that discusses textual and philological problems and at the same time deepens Diomedes' doctrine on certain questions of verbal morphology, comparing it with the rest of late antique and early medieval grammatical literature

Повний текст джерелаThe critical edition of the poetic works of Paulinus of Nola which is the main aim of this thesis is the first one since Wilhelm von Hartel’s edition, realized at the end of the 19th century. It consists then in a global study of the textual tradition of Paulinus of Nola, based on all known manuscripts, study which founds a criticism of attribution based two on metrical, literary, theological, and cultural aspects of Paulinus’ works. The philological and codicological aspects of the question, mostly ignored, have been the subject of a special study, for they often meet the textual history of Ausonius, known as particularly difficult. This edition, preceded then by an introduction on textual history and stemmatic reconstruction, comes with the first full French translation of Paulinus’poetry in front of it. Annotation concentrates on problematics of textual drafting and history, and, through an apparatus of biblical and textual sources and parallels, on the place of Paulinus of Nola in the literary history of late Antiquity

Повний текст джерелаJulian's culture is a product of a school-system as well as of intellectual and ideological trends. The prince ran along the whole succession of school cycles. His work settles a scale of literary values in accordance with the school-pattern, but also lays down an ideologically-founded dichotomy between good and bad books. In fact, Julian's work is extensively built upon texts ignored by the claimed scale or condemned on ideological grounds. The major texts often come down to it by indirect ways as short excerpts. Besides, it displays an amount of learning on different matters. Some of these (rhetoric, philosophy) precisely reflect the school curriculum, while others (history, geography, astronomy) are marked with preoccupations which are typical of the age. Furthermore, Julian's work reveals, concerning culture or culture-linked matters, such opinions and feelings as to express, behind praised values, a real devaluation of the ancient literary heritage, of the functions of culture, of learning, even of hellenism

Gerzaguet, Camille. "Ambroise de Milan, De fuga saeculi : introduction, texte critique, traduction et commentaire." Thesis, Lyon 2, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012LYO20122.
Повний текст джерелаThis new critical edition of De fuga saeculi by Ambrose of Milan is based on the collation of new witness manuscripts and the revision of those used by C. Schenkl (their respective worth was examined thanks to a missing stemma in the 1897 edition). The edition is accompanied by an original French translation. A spiritual and moral work published by Ambrose along with three other texts on a similar topic, De fuga saeculi is placed in its Milanese context of the end of the 4th century : transformations in Christian ways of living, an interest in monastic life, competition with advocates of Neo-Platonism and a pastoral duty to guide and train the community of an imperial capital. An enquiry into the sources reveals that De fuga saeculi both inherits the Neo-Platonician and Stoic philosophical traditions – reinterpreted through the thought of Philo of Alexandria –, and advocates a specifically Christian escape out of the world, inspired by events and precepts from the Old and New Testaments. The commentary displays the sequences of a kaleidoscopic thought and highlights its majors themes, re-uses and variations. Inner-wordly escape is a topical issue of the late 4th and early 5th centuries, but Ambrose’s conception expressed in De fuga saeculy is original given that it differs from those of contemporary writers such as Jerome, Paulinus of Nola and Augustine

Повний текст джерелаThe present thesis studies the last poem written by the humanist Giovanni Pontano (1429-1503) in the latefifteenth century/beginning of the sixteenth century : De hortis Hesperidum, a georgic on citrus gardens. Some descriptive chapters, followed by a more analytical and multidisciplinary study, cast light on thisoverlooked testament of Napolitan humanism. The poem is at first considered through its various readingsover time and in particular through its influence on the literature of European classical age. Then, theversification and the textual history of the poem are assessed and the principles of the current edition areestablished, thanks to a careful examination of its testimonies. Since De hortis Hesperidum is the first moderntext to imitate Vergil’s way of composing didactic poetry, the study deciphers the recreation of the georgicgenre at the begining of the modern period, by considering narrations patterns, digression’s role, the way ofpresenting the dedicatee or the poet himself. De hortis Hesperidum is also a scientific poem that demonstratesan early interest for citrus trees, by establishing their varieties and describing their culture, with an obviousattraction for ornemental gardens that foreteils their popularity in sixteenth century Naples and Italy, foreshadowing the beginnings of manierist gardens. Finally the poem pictures the aristocratical life of thePontanian academy. It gives the aspect of an ideal time, kept safe from the commotion of the Italian wars, thanks to the poet. In addition to this study, the thesis countains the first complete French translation of thetext and a new edition in which spelling has been corrected on the only known manuscript of the poem
