The Common Airborne Instrumentation System (CAIS) is being developed through the Department of Defense Central Test and Evaluation Investment Program (CTEIP) to support the flight test requirements of the military services into the next decade. The system is designed to accommodate both the small user and the larger, more complex full scale development programs. This paper presents a program overview of CAIS from a users view.

Is it unavoidable fact that the interface of a program will change when the program is updated. It is a well-known problem that such changes lead to usability issues, even if the new interface in itself is usable. In increasingly digitalized society where using computers and the Internet is no longer a matter of interest, but a necessity to manage everyday life, it is important that older generation is included in the rapid development. Older adults generally suffer from physical, motor and cognitive decline that can create barrier to using computers. Changing interface can be particularly problematic for this age group, and a smooth transition from the old interface to the new one is needed. Fifteen older and five younger computer users were recruited, to study how a drastically modified computer interface influences older adults as computer users. Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 8 was used as testing software for the case study where the participants were asked to conduct a series of tasks to observe the effects of first time experience with the new interface. The attitudes and the emotions towards the new interface, as well as the difficulties encountered during the first time use were studied in the thesis. The result showed the clear difference between the younger and older participants. Older participants generally had a more positive attitude towards the new browser, even though they encountered more difficulties during the test. The younger participants managed to complete the tasks with less assistance, but were skeptical towards the new interface. Despite the differences in the emotional reactions, both groups were reluctant to update to the new interface, which was shown to be particularly problematic for older participants. The result of the study indicates that an interface that undergoes major restructuring is most likely to be problematic for senior computer users. Thus, there is a need for a bridging strategy between the old and the new interface.

This service is comprised of two major components - Newsbase and Special Databases, which provide archival Malaysian information. NSTP Online is the trade name of the online database available commercially and internally to the organisation.Quality issues are acknowledged by database producers but are often overlooked due to resource, technology and human constraints. The key quality issues include contents, data quality, customer support and database structure. The objective of investigating these issues from the users' perspective is because it is the major issue from the business point of view. The few database quality studies documented in the literature are limited to methodological development.Quality issues from the users' perspective are difficult to measure due to the intangible nature of information, the researcher's dependence on the subjective opinions of the users and the variables associated with experience and costs. The aim of the study is to investigate the problems affecting the use of information and identify areas requiring further examination by the database producer.The results of this investigation draw upon the writer's experience with NSTP Online and the feedback obtained from the questionnaire and interviews conducted in Malaysia. This paper examines the differences in usage, training, support and data retrieval among the external and internal users. Despite the fact that NSTP Online needs to be improved in terms of contents, currency, technology and telecommunication, the service is still regarded as an useful information tool by the users.The paper highlights the many problems that require further planning and improvement for internal and external users. These include developing an appropriate channel of communication, an improved understanding of the requirements and expectations of the users, and an increased depth to the contents available to the customers. It is recommended that future improvement be focused on the problems faced by the users and the way in which a number of these can be overcome with the use of more advanced technology.

With the rapid development of the Internet and web technology, governments worldwide have caught onto this revolution and shown rapid development of electronic government (e-government) in the public sector. Nowadays, there are a significant number of e-governments that are accessible via the Internet and provide a range of information and services. However, existing research indicates that e-government still faces the challenge of generating greater users’ interaction in terms of accessing information, utilizing services and participating in e-government decision making. Among a variety of reasons for this challenge, usability and credibility have been found to be the key factors in users’ decisions about e-government engagement and need to be explored. This research attempts to evaluate the usability and credibility of current e-governments, focusing on specific e-government websites in the UK. This research adopted heuristic evaluation, which is based on users’ perception, to implement a thorough and in-depth assessment of e-government websites. In addition, to obtain a more comprehensive evaluation, users’ performance was measured in order to reveal the level of users’ interaction with e-government websites when they perform a set of practical tasks. The research design was a quasi-experimental, consisting of two linked experiments. Experiment 1 aimed to evaluate usability and credibility of the target e-government websites, identifying a range of existing usability and credibility problems. Based on the usability and credibility problems found, design solutions were proposed for each of the target e-government websites. Experiment 2 aimed to examine the effects of the proposed design solutions on the usability and credibility problems identified on the redesigned e-government websites. The findings of experiment 1 suggested that the e-government websites need to improve their usability and credibility. In particular, the most serious usability problems found in the target e-government websites lay within the areas of “aesthetic and minimalist design”, “recognition rather than recall”, and “consistency and standards”. In addition, the most serious credibility problems identified were within the areas of “site looks professional”, “make site easy to use and useful”, and “show the honest and trustworthy people behind the site”. The findings of experiment 2 revealed that the usability and credibility problems found in experiment 1 had been improved by the proposed design solutions. Furthermore, these improvements might increase the overall usability and credibility of the target e-government websites, making the users’ task performance better within the redesigned e-government websites. Based on the findings of the experiments, this research developed a set of usability and credibility guidelines. Each guideline addressed a number of the specific usability and credibility elements at the detailed level of e-government website design. These guidelines can be helpful to guide designers to develop more usable and credible e-government websites.

Telecommunication organizations are confronting in expanding client administration weight as they launch various user-desired services. Conveying poor client encounters puts client connections and incomes at danger. One of the metrics used by telecommunications companies to determine their relationship with customers is “Churn”. After substantial research in the field of churn prediction over many years, Big Data analytics with Data Mining techniques was found to be an efficient way for identifying churn. These techniques are usually applied to predict customer churn by building models, pattern classification and learning from historical data. Although some work has already been undertaken with regards to users’ perspective, it appears to be in its infancy. The aim of this thesis is to validate churn predictive heuristics from the operator perspective and close to user end. Conducting experiments with different sections of people regarding their data usage, designing a model, which is close to the user end and fitting with the data obtained through the survey done. Correlating the examined churn indicators and their validation, validation with the traffic volume variation with the users’ feedback collected by accompanying theses. A Literature review is done to analyze previous works and find out the difficulties faced in analyzing the users’ feeling, also to understand methodologies to get around problems in handling the churn prediction algorithms accuracy. Experiments are conducted with different sections of people across the globe. Their experiences with quality of calls, data and if they are looking to change in future, what would be their reasons of churn be, are analyzed. Their feedback will be validated using existing heuristics. The collected data set is analyzed by statistical analysis and validated for different datasets obtained by operators’ data. Also statistical and Big Data analysis has been done with data provided by an operator’s active and churned customers monthly data volume usage. A possible correlation of the user churn with users’ feedback will be studied by calculating the percentages and further correlate the results with that of the operators’ data and the data produced by the mobile app. The results show that the monthly volumes have not shown much decision power and the need for additional attributes such as higher time resolution, age, gender and others are needed. Whereas the survey done globally has shown similarities with the operator’s customers’ feedback and issues “around the globe” such a data plan issues, pricing, issues with connectivity and speed. Nevertheless, data preprocessing and feature selection has shown to be the key factors. Churn predictive models have given a better classification of 69.7 % when more attributes were provided. Telecom Operators’ data classification have given an accuracy of 51.7 % after preprocessing and for the variables we choose. Finally, a close observation of the end user revealed the possibility to yield a much higher classification precision of 95.2 %.

Today there exist several systems that lack usability. The reasons are, among others, the pressure to add more features in the system, but also that focus has been earlier on technology and functionality. It becomes more important to think of the user, so that systems can be more usable. By focusing on the user, the user experience can enhance, which results in more satisfied users.

User involvement in the system development process is one way to learn and receive information about the user. There are several ways of doing that. One way is to create user portraits from existing user models. We have studied different user models and lack a model that includes both tasks and goals; for example one of the existing models focus on user goals and another on relations with the system.

The purpose with this final thesis is to create a model to describe users as roles providing a more effective and generalized user-centered system development process.

To create this model, the role profile model, we studied existing theories. By them we were influenced both by good and less good things. The theoretical study resulted in a tentative model that we tested by interview and observe six buyers within the manufacturing industry. This resulted in two role profiles; the strategic buyer and purchase planner. From the result of the interviews and observations, we improved the tentative role profile model to our final model. There were some factors that did not fit in the tentative model and some that we added.

The role profile model contains three elements; objectives, requirements and context. These elements consist of a number of attributes that are important when surveying a role profile. The uniqueness with the role profile model is the fact that it includes both role specific attributes and attributes that puts the role profile into a context. The model contains for example work process, system requirements, responsibility and authority.

The role profile is at part of a greater context. There are design philosophies that concern the whole system development process; from survey the user to design and test. Our role profile model only handles the first parts, the user and tasks, due to the time limitations.

We have created a practical procedure that we recommend to facilitate the usage of the role profile model. The practical procedure is based on our choices of method when testing the tentative role profile model. The central in our practical procedure are interviews and observations. It is important to plan the company visits so that all necessary information is received.

The usage of the role profile can for example contribute with: knowledge and understanding of the users, structured work procedure, a generally accepted terminology and a user-centered design process.

This final thesis has been performed on commission of Lawson Software. We had continuously discussions with them about usability and the role profile model. We have studied fields of applications for the role profile model at Lawson. We think they can use the model in the product requirement process, design and evaluation, work with composite applications, user understanding and user priority and introduction of new employees.


Idag finns det ett flertal system som har bristande användar¬vänlighet. Detta beror bland annat på påtryckningar att lägga till fler funktioner i systemen, men också på att det bakåt i tiden har fokuserats på att utveckla system utifrån teknologi och funktionalitet. Det blir allt viktigare att tänka på användaren så att systemen blir mer användarvänliga. Genom att fokusera på användaren kan man öka användarupplevelsen i systemet och det medför att användarna blir nöjdare.

Att involvera användaren i utvecklingsprocessen är ett sätt att lära känna och få information om användaren. Det finns många sätt att göra det på. Ett sätt är att skapa användarporträtt med hjälp av olika befintliga användarmodeller. Vi har studerat olika användarmodeller och sett att det saknas en användarmodell som inkluderar både fokus på användarens arbetsprocess och dess mål; till exempel en av de existerande modellerna fokuserar på användarens mål och en annan på relationer med system.

Syftet med detta examensarbete är därför att skapa en modell som beskriver användare som roller, som bidrar till en effektivare och bredare användar¬centrerad systemutvecklingsprocess.

För att ta fram denna modell, rollprofilsmodellen, studerade vi som sagt existerande teorier. Från dem påverkades vi både av delar som vi tyckte var bra och mindre bra. Vi kom fram till en hypotesmodell som vi testade genom att intervjua och observera sex inköpare på tillverkande företag. Detta resulterade i två rollprofiler; den strategiska inköparen och inköpsplaneraren. Utifrån resultaten av intervjuerna och observationerna förbättrade vi hypotesen till vår slutliga modell. Det fanns vissa faktorer som vi inte tyckte passade in, men även attribut som borde läggas till.

Rollprofilsmodellen innehåller tre delar; mål, krav och kontext. Dessa delar består av ett antal attribut som är viktiga att undersöka hos den rollprofil som ska skapas. Det som utmärker rollprofilsmodellen är att den inkluderar både roll¬speci¬fika mål och attribut som sätter rollprofilen i en kontext. Modellen innehåller till exempel relationer, krav, ansvar och befogenheter.

Rollprofilen är en del av en större kontext. Det finns designfilosofier som berör hela systemutvecklingsprocessen; från att kartlägga användaren till att designa och testa. På grund av tidsbegränsningar har vi enbart berört de första av dessa delar; användaren och arbetsuppgifter.

För att underlätta användandet av rollprofilen har vi skapat ett rekommenderat praktiskt tillvägagångssätt. Detta är baserat på våra egna metodval när vi testade vår hypotesmodell. Det centrala i det praktiska tillvägagångssättet är intervjuer och observa¬tioner. Det är viktigt att planera noggrant så att all nödvändig informa¬tion erhålls.

Användandet av rollprofilen kan till exempel bidra till: kunskap och förståelse av användaren, ett strukturerat arbetssätt, en allmänt accepterad terminologi samt en användar¬centrerad utvecklingsprocess.

Detta examensarbete har utförts på uppdrag av Lawson Software, med vilka vi kontinuer¬ligt har fört diskussioner om användbarhet och rollprofilsmodellen med mera. Vi har även utforskat vilka potentiella användningsområden som rollprofilen har på Lawson. Lawson skulle kunna använda modellen i kravhanteringsprocessen, design och utvärdering, arbete med komposita applikationer, användarförståelse och priori¬teringar samt intro¬ducerande av nyanställda.

This study is qualitative and interpretive in nature. It examines the perception of 6 people aged 23-32 with decent experience in using the Web on the usability of three user interface website design patterns. These patterns are the ‘hamburger’ icon (an icon used primarily in mobile websites and apps that shows a hidden navigation when clicked), CAPTCHAs (a task that users have to complete to continue browsing a webpage to prevent automated software operating on the webpage) and returning to the homepage. It searches for the characteristics that they desire to see in those three user interface design patterns and the actions that those patterns represent. The participants are reached through interviews and observations and the research pinpoints that although experienced Internet users find the user interface elements relatively usable some usability factors can be worked upon in the chosen design elements and pinpoints what users would want to see changed, the actual changes they want and the problems they actually encounter with the current status of the three (3) design patterns and their usability. More noticeably, the research pinpoints that a “Homepage” button would be more usable than “Home” button which is the de facto standard as of this moment and it shows that the ‘hamburger’ icon is usable enough amongst experienced users, contradicting the research pinpointing that 71 out of 76 fail using the icon (Fichter and Wisniewski, 2016) probably due to the participants’ experience with technology, but other, preferable alternatives to the ‘hamburger’ icon are revealed from the participants which are in line with the current literature. CAPTCHAs are confirmed as a ‘nuisance’ (Pogue, 2012) and the need for CAPTCHAs which are quick to solve emerges which is what forms the perception of usability of the participants.

Authors: Jean-Marc Desfougères and Valentin Bloux Supervisor: Albert Thor Magnusson Level: Bachelor Thesis in Business Administration Marketing Key Words: Behavioural advertising, Facebook, privacy, online consumer behaviour, social network, leisure industry, targeting. Purpose: study how a specific age bracket of Facebook users perceives the leisure industry behavioural advertising on this social networking site. Method: This thesis follows a deductive approach. We are using secondary data from books, articles and studies but also primary data thanks to a questionnaire; which allows us to answer our purpose. Theoretical Framework: First define the online consumer behaviour and its characteristics through existing models and then define behavioural advertising, how is the leisure industry using this marketing tool and what are the drawbacks of such practices. Conclusion: The authors conclude that Facebook users are more and more aware of the use of behavioural advertising. But due to a lack of education about such marketing techniques the 18-30 years old tend to adopt mostly strict privacy settings with the intention to block those advertisements. The privacy issue is important and even if the users seems to be interested in the offers of the leisure industry there is still a long way before obtaining a full acceptance of this practice. Then are presented the contributions given and the further research possible regarding this topic.

To answer this question a study was conducted where two so called norm creative methodswere tested in a series of focus groups to see what potential the methods held in regard to improvingexisting methods or serve as basis for the creation new methods within user research.

Introduction: Enterprise recourse planning (ERP) is a system that combines software, hardwareand people to manage information The aim of this study is to investigate ERP systems effect onbusiness performance (advertised vs. realized benefits) and user’s complaints. It also aims toidentify the most important issue a company faces after implementing an ERP system and if thisstops potential benefits from happening. This will be viewed from a user’s perspective. Approach/Methodology: This research includes qualitative and quantitative primary data withsecondary data to answer the research questions posed. It is based on a number of semistructuredinterviews of people well versed in ERP systems presented in case study form.Alongside, it also utilizes a series of questionnaires presented in tabular form. The data wasanalyzed and linked with theory to provide answers and test assumptions. Findings: ERP systems provide their advertised benefits to a large extent. The most importantorganizational issue after implementing an ERP system is resistance to change and this issueaffects the benefits realization of the system. Finally, user’s complaints about ERP systems arevaried and include the speed of the system, support in error situations and general complexity. Conclusions: Even though it provides many benefits in business performance, an ERP system,selection and implementation in a company is a critical step. The whole process is complicated,resource consuming, takes a long time and can encounter problems. Mistakes in theimplementation cost a company more resources to fix after they happen. In this case preventionis better than cure and the best medicine.Implications and Value of research: ERP system implementation and use should bemethodically planned from the beginning to get maximum benefits realization. This is especiallyimportant in effectively managing change in an organization. In this issue, top level managersshould be aware and committed to. Suggestion for future studies: A possible research that could correlate user complaintcategories already established with age group of respondents under a global perspective.

The use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) is now widespread and endeavours are increasingly being made to incorporate CAM into conventional healthcare and move towards Integrative Medicine (IM). To date research has primarily focused on the prevalence of use, and safety and efficacy of CAM; less is known about patients' experiences of and reasons for using specific therapies. While therapeutically diverse, it has been suggested that many CAM modalities share mutually referential ideologies and that people who use them may be motivated to do so by specific health beliefs. This study focuses on traditional acupuncture in a New Zealand context and investigates users' experiences and perceptions of the therapy, and discusses how personal health beliefs influence usage. A systematic review of relevant international qualitative research informed the main study, which was carried out using an interpretive phenomenological methodology (Heidegger's approach). Data was gathered from interviews with 12 participants who had recently received treatment from traditionally trained (non-biomedical) acupuncturists. Thematic analysis suggested that acupuncture was often sought for health conditions (typically of a chronic and benign nature) that are difficult to treat conventionally. Whereas initial access was primarily motivated by ineffective biomedical treatment, personal health beliefs-particularly subscription to holistic and vitalistic ideologies-often inspired more extensive and ongoing use. The therapeutic encounter was interpreted to contain many elements-other than needling-integral to treatment. Outcomes were perceived to be wide ranging, personal and necessarily subjective, and included the relief of symptoms, increased well-being, and changes to understandings and health behaviours. It is concluded that the attraction of acupuncture for patients and many of its perceived benefits lie in therapeutic components that are ultimately embedded in Chinese medicine (holistic) theories of health. A more pluralistic schema for assessing evidence may be necessary to acknowledge treatment outcomes that are meaningful to patients, and to accommodate the divergent ontologies and practice models of acupuncture, other CAMs and biomedicine. Increased interdisciplinary cooperation and communication is suggested as a means to improve patient safety and satisfaction and as a scenario for moving forward with IM.

Buses constitute the main public transport mode in most cities of the world. Accessible Bus Systems are defined as systems that are easy to use. However accessible the infrastructure may be, it is unlikely to provide access if people cannot know about it. Therefore it is essential to have comprehensive and accessible information systems which describe the bus systems during all the stages of the journey. There is a widespread understanding amongst researchers that Information Systems can increase the efficiency of the system and that they should be oriented to meet bus users’ needs. However, existing information systems largely ignore the user’s point of view, in special the requirement of the disabled users. This thesis describes a methodology developed to investigate the problem of using information during a journey by bus in real conditions taking into account the (un)familiarity of the area in study and the individual’s previous knowledge of information system. Two main aspects are identified — the “Required Environment Capability” (the physical, social and psychological environment conditions) and the “Individual Capability Provided” (the individual ability in physical, sensorial and cognitive terms) to plan and execute a journey by bus in an unfamiliar environment. Because of the multidisciplinary aspect of the theme this study uses approaches from different fields of research to construct a methodology to understand individual information use. Based on the principles of Single Case Analysis adapted by adding the concept of the Capabilities Model (CM) (which explores interactions between individual and environment), the combined SCA/CM approach was employed to construct the INFOChain experiment. A set of information pieces were developed for the experiment, delivering Accessibility- Issues (AI-type) information in order to help older people to plan and execute different bus journeys in two different cities: London/UK and Brasilia/BR. General results have shown that although the AI-Type of information is considered important by older people, it needs more than simple expositions to actually take advantages of the information and be able to help disabled users.

The School Feeding National Program (PNAE) aims to contribute to overcome the low school revenue and in the reduction of the school escape. In spite of the social politics of school feeding not to seek to eliminate the child malnutrition in Brazil, just looking for to supply 15% of the children's needs daily, it is important for the fact of representing access to necessary foods to the growth and the learning for the scholars, as well as for supplying the possibility of the ransom of customs and local customs, important in the ethnic identity of the population. Besides, the resources destined to the purchase of the school snack can represent for the community a possibility of maintainable development, because the administration of the resources of a participant form can take to the construction of a new rationality in the exploration of the local natural resources. The main motivation of this work is to contribute for the discussions of the public politics in the reduction of the poverty and to understand the inter relationships among the offer of a compensatory politics and the impact s generated for the population plaintiff. It is looked for through a case study, where the geograp hical space is the municipal district of TauÃ- CE, to determine the efficiency, effectiveness and effectiveness of a re-distribution program through the descriptive analysis of the PNAE users perspective. It is a subsequent evaluation, that if using of bibliographical and documental research , of the application of questionnaires to the school community, of interviews to the nutritionist and representatives of the institutions of local fomentation and of tabulation for the statistical program Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), it evidences that the problems of infrastructure of the transports and highways of the municipal district and the absence of equipments in the schools represent the main impediments within reach of the effectiveness of the Program and that the loss of the purchase power of the R$ 0,13 per capita/day allied to the accomplishment of the equality of the population-objective made of a centralized form, commits its efficiency. Finally, it explicits the absence of the use of indicators for the measuration of its effectiveness by the managers of the program and the school community's ignorance in relation to its administration.

The purpose of this study is to attain information on women's use of the Internet by focusing on the ways it has empowered them. Tehran is selected as a field site because nearly one-fifth of the urban population in Iran lives in Tehran. Moreover, the Access to the Internet, particularly in this capital city, has developed enormously in the recent years. The main questions around which I have focused this enquiry are: "Has the Internet made a difference in the lives of women in the city of Tehran? Do they feel empowered by the Internet? This research is based on semi structured interviews which consist of a written list of ten questions. The research sample consists of 40 participants between the ages 13-45 years, whom I have selected through the snowballing sampling technique. The data for this study was collected during the summer 2010. The aim of this research is to attain information on women's use of the Internet and their perception about empowerment, mainly focusing on how much the use of the Internet contributes to their empowerment and in which ways does this occur. The data reveals that 80 per cent of the interviewed women acknowledge that the Internet has a significant impact on their personal and professional life. This group also believes that the Internet has opened up a new space for them. Their empowerment zones were focused on the aspects of individual (physical, psychological, and intellectual wellbeing), political, economic, social and cultural empowerment. However, 20 per cent of the participants stress that the Internet 'may' have made their life easier but has not brought about a big difference to their lives practically. The reason of this disagreement according to their views is related to the major obstacles they encounter in their easy access to the Internet.

Online Health Communities (OHCs) have become an important source of sharing and receiving information and support for people with health-related concerns. These communities provide important benefits to users including enhanced medical knowledge, emotional comfort, personal empowerment and the ability to create offline social connections. High levels of user engagement are beneficial to both users and the OHC, so it is important to understand what motivate users’ participation, encourage them to contribute and influence their churning behaviors. This thesis covers why, when, and how users are actively engaged within an OHC. It is based on descriptive and predictive analytics of OHC users’ online interactions with text mining techniques. I built explanatory models to reveal how users’ motivations and roles evolve over time, the types of social support activities that encourage users’ continuous participation, and the forms of social capital that drive users’ continued contributions to the community. In addition, I developed predictive models to help an OHC forecast whether and when a user will churn. The findings of this study have implications for managing and sustaining successful OHCs, and can provide OHC managers with suggestions on how to motivate user contributions and retain users through interventions.

Radiotelephony between air traffic controllers and pilots utilises standard phraseology as the medium of communications. Standard phraseology employs specific structure, terminology and pronunciation to ensure effectiveness and accuracy. On occasions when standard phraseology is found insufficient, plain language is used to efficiently relay vital information. By default, English is the designated language of communication between controllers and pilots of international flights. Deviations from the usage of standard phraseology and lack of language proficiency had been identified as one of the causal factors in safety occurrences. Language deficiencies, specifically of the non-native speakers of the English language, had raised much concern but there is limited information in the area. This research attempted to fill a small segment of this knowledge gap. It was focussed on the usage of standard phraseology and English language in an air traffic control environment involving English Second Language users. Audio data was sourced from routine radiotelephony recordings of ‘live’ air traffic control facilities in Malaysia to capture realistic communications between controllers and pilots in the Terminal Approach Radar, Area Radar and Aerodrome Control environments. A detailed cross sectional investigation of the radiotelephony characteristics, deficiencies and errors of transmitted messages revealed the radiotelephony performances of controllers and pilots in the environments. The recurrence of deviations from standards and occurrence of errors implied the likelihood of such deficiencies taking place. Demographic groups’ descriptions complemented the radiotelephony analyses as background information on language related training. The results were comparative to other similar studies and offered new information on English Second Language speakers in the Air Traffic Control environment.

Using a network perspective, this dissertation investigates the diffusion of high-technology innovations to organizational users. The particular innovation of interest is satellite remotely sensed data, and the diffusion phenomena occur among geospatial professionals who work in local government agencies. I utilize multiple methods in the dissertation. Essay 1 looks at the impacts of structural bases of social influences on diffusion. In Essays 2 and 3, I focus the investigation on advocates, the adopters who share their adoption experiences with their professional peers. While Essay 2 investigates the structural consequences at an individual level, Essay 3 provides an overarching framework of diffusion consequences at individual, organizational and population levels. This project makes theoretical contributions to marketing, consumer behavior and management. For marketing, I investigate the origins of imitation effects of diffusion by examining the social networks of the adopters and potential adopters. For consumer behavior, I examine the underlying logic for aspiring professionals to focus their work on spreading knowledge of innovation, and I demonstrate that innovation diffusion is a means to compete for high-status positions in the professional field. For management, I look at the reciprocal relationships between innovation diffusion and career development of adopters, and show that personnel mobility is crucial for diffusion in the organizations and population. This dissertation demonstrates how news and interpretations of innovations are filtered through consumers' networks. Since users are connected with social networks, the adoption of innovation by one individual user has ramifications among those with whom he or she is connected. Similarly, adopting organizations are interconnected through their employees' participation in various interorganizational projects and professional associations. Therefore, the adoption in one organization encourages similar processes to occur in other connected organizations. By examining the nature of contacts among adopters and potential adopters, marketers can anticipate the market trajectory and hence market growth. The knowledge generated from this dissertation should sensitize public policy makers about the countervailing nature of diffusion consequences. Adopting organizations may or may not gain in technological sophistication after adoption because their advocating employees become desirable in the field and are likely to be sought out by other organizations.

This thesis aimed to investigate the determinants of system satisfaction and the intention to systematically integrate a system from a continuous use perspective, where system use is mandatory. For this purpose, two identical questionnaires were distributed to collect data, 15 months apart. Respondents taking part in this study are healthcare multi-professionals who pertain to a work-group at an intensive care unit, at a large Swedish hospital. To evaluate the questionnaire data a research model was conceptualized, grounded in prior information system continuance research. It is also significantly influenced by the UMISC metamodel, conceptualized and suggested by Hadji & Degoulet (2016). The collected data was then analyzed using a two-stage analysis where one aspect was comparative, i.e., a comparison of the data between the two questionnaires, and the other was explorative, wherein research model constructs and their relations were evaluated. This analysis provided significant insight into the determinants of system satisfaction. However, regarding the determinants of the intention to systematically integrate as well as the research model itself, neither could be validated in this study. Nevertheless, these results allowed for a modified model to be conceptualized, with potentially promising results.

This report is based on a project which aims to evaluate the costs for the heat pump system from the perspective of Swedish insurance companies, users and environment. There are different thoughts today about the costs for the heat pump systems and the goal with this project is to analyze the costs for the heat pump and the cost for electric heating. The method of the project could mainly be divided into two parts. The first part will calculate the cost of faults divided with the market value for the heat pump system. The second part will use life cycle cost analysis, LCCA, to compare the heat pump system with the electric boiler. Data used in the calculations in the method is collected from insurance companies and by interviewing experts in the subject. The result from the study using LCCA proves that the heat pump system in relation to the electric boiler is more profitable from the perspectives of users and environment. The reason behind this is the amount electricity used during the whole lifetime of both systems. At least three times less electricity is demanded from the heat pump system and the user will therefore save money if choosing the heat pump. In the same way the environment gets less affected by the smaller amount of demanded electricity. However, from the insurance companies’ perspective, the electric boiler is to be preferred, due to high fault costs for the heat pump compared to the electric boiler. For example, the brine to water heat pump has a cost of faults at 3100 kr per year, comparing to the electric boiler which has almost no cost of faults at all. The discussion made will present potential reasons and thoughts regarding the outcome of the study. It also includes an analysis where alternative models are discussed and tested from different approaches.
Denna rapport behandlar ett projekt som handlar om att utvärdera kostnaderna av ett värmepumpssystem utifrån tre perspektiv: svenska försäkringsbolag, användare och miljö. Det finns idag delade meningar vad gäller kostnaderna av ett värmepumpssystem och målet är att analysera dessa kostnader med samma typ av kostnader för elpanna. Metoden kan överlag delas in i två delar. Första delen beräknar felkostnaden dividerat med marknadsvärdet för värmepumpsystemet. Andra delen använder livscykelkostnadsanalys för att jämföra värmepumpen med elpannan. Data som användes i beräkningarna i metoden samlades från försäkringsbolag och genom intervjuer med experter i ämnet. Resultatet från studien visar att värmepumpsystemet är mer fördelaktigt från användares och miljöns perspektiv. Anledningen till detta ligger i mängden elektricitet som används av de båda systemen under hela livslängden. Minst tre gånger mindre elektricitet krävs av en värmepump, jämfört med elpannan, och användaren sparar därmed mycket pengar om denne väljer värmepumpen. På samma sätt påverkas miljön mindre av användningen av värmepumpen. Dock är elpannan att föredra framför värmepumpen från försäkringsbolagens perspektiv. Detta beror på att felkostnaden, som försäkringsbolagen får stå för, är mycket högre för värmepumpen än för elpannan. För bergjordsjö-värmepump till exempel, är kostnaden för fel cirka 3100 kr per år, samtidigt som den är försumbar för elpannan. Diskussionen presenterar potentiella anledningar och tankar bakom resultatet. Där görs även en analys där olika typer av modeller diskuteras och prövas från olika perspektiv.

During using social media, it is important to have awareness to protect their personal information. Comparing with Western countries, the topic of privacy is not often discussed in China and some privacy issues might be ignored due to people have not enough knowledge in this area. In this study, the focus is to investigate Chinese university students’ perception of privacy risks and WeChat personal information exposure. Based on this, this study also explores the users’ attitudes toward WeChat and how it influences the future usage of it. The adopted research method is qualitative research method, by doing interviews with 15 students from different school, city and major. From the study, eight essential concepts are used to answer two research questions. Though analysis, the situation of the privacy perception can be found, the reasons and attitudes toward WeChat are also figured out. At the end of the thesis, the contribution of this study and suggestions to future research are shown.

Waste management is an integral part of sustainable urban development. In the modern world, when attitude to waste is being shifted towards “waste as resource” and “waste as income generator”, ensuring separation of hazardous waste from the general waste stream becomes increasingly important. Sorting hazardous waste is critical in light of the whole recycling idea. Hazardous elements, while bearing a certain value if properly handled, can negate the costs of the recyclable materials if found in their stream. They present enormous long-term losses, if introduced into the environment, and can negatively influence our ability to benefit from recycling. Convenience is one of the most effective tools in increasing recycling rates (Carlson 2001, p.1275). It is a personally defined concept, and often depends on the users’ lifestyle-related factors. This thesis explores users’ understanding and habits of handling hazardous waste, as well as the challenges they encounter and their views and suggestions on convenience of hazardous waste recycling systems. The main method used in this comparative case study research is qualitative interviews conducted with a variety of people with different lifestyles living in Malmo. First, the thesis develops a list of lifestyle-related factors which lower the perceived convenience of recycling. People consider recycling to be effort demanding or easy not just because they are women or men, young or old, live in a dense area or not. But this perception is influenced by having or not having access to a transporting vehicle and time available, their household’s waste producing rates, time spent living in a certain place, available space for storing waste; physical constraints or difficulties with self-organization at home; established or not recycling habits or level of environmental concern. People’s recycling behavior is determined by these personal lifestyle-related factors. Second, aspects of convenience are being presented as the focus areas which planners should consider in increasing recycling rates. The convenience aspects are developed with regards to the challenges people with different lifestyles experience in recycling. While lifestyle-related factors cannot be influenced directly, aspects of convenience can be employed in ensuring efficiency of hazardous waste collection system. It is important that the hazardous waste collection system design takes them into the full account. Detailed descriptions of the aspects of perceived convenience are presented. They are grouped into convenience of access to information and convenience through facilities and services. The final conclusion of the thesis is that involving users would assist in addressing key aspects of recycling systems’ perceived convenience and increase their efficiency. It is hoped that the information can be helpful in designing successful hazardous waste collection systems with increased capability to reach national goals in recycling and reduce the amounts of hazardous substances in general waste.

In recent years, the diffusion of end-user oriented Information Technology (IT) within organisations has met with mixed success. The reactions to this technology, which can be considered to be an innovation in the workplace, range from enthusiastic adoption to hostile rejection, and are typical of the reactions to innovations in general. Nevertheless, because this IT is an integral part of many organisations' plans, organisations must have a good understanding of the factors which may influence its use. The purpose of this research is to develop and test a model outlining potential factors and their inter-relationships. Because personally using IT can be viewed as an innovative behaviour, two areas of prior research were used to develop the research model. First, the Diffusion of Innovations model (Rogers, 1983), postulates that adoption of an innovation is dependent upon several perceptions one has of the innovation. Second, the Theory of Reasoned Action (Fishbein and Ajzen, 1975), posits that behaviour in general is motivated by an individual's attitude towards carrying out the behaviour, and his subjective norms. These norms are based on what one thinks that others expect one to do. These two theories were melded into a general research model to investigate the central research questions: 1. What are the users', and non-users', underlying perceptions of personally using IT? 2. Do any of the above perceptions dominate? If so, which are they, how are they linked, and how do they affect the decision to personally use IT? 3. What are the effects of others' expectations about one's using IT on one's decision to use, or not use, IT? Items to measure the perceived characteristics of innovating, the subjective norms, and innovative behaviour was developed and administered in a cross-sectional survey to 540 individuals in seven organisations. Three data analysis approaches were used, including a comparison of adopters and non-adopters of IT, regression analysis, and structural equation modelling (LISREL). The analysis results provide support for the general model, and six of the seven specific research hypotheses. Usage of the technology was found to be highly correlated with one's attitudes and subjective norms, and the determinants of attitude were consistent with diffusion theory.

Scholarly reviews expound that current prevailing on-premise Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems could not be sufficient for enterprises to form highly dynamic units around vibrant requirements of the market. In response to satisfying ever-changing demands of the market, cloud computing has been recently emerged which its basic promise is convergence of IT efficiency and business agility in information technology. Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) is the most common type of cloud service which has been heralded to be a serious alternative for on-premise software. Considering shortages of current on-premise ERPs and high potentiality of SaaS to be as an alternative for on-premise software, this study seeks to empirically understand real advantages and disadvantages of adopting ERP systems served as SaaS from the perspective of SaaS users. "Real advantages and disadvantages" in this study are the ones which are not only certified through literature but also through empirical data. Grounded in literature review and personal communication with two Information Systems (IS) professionals, 19 items were considered as advantages and 12 items as disadvantages of ERP as SaaS adoption categorized in three groups of strategic, financial, and technical. Survey data of 90 responses were collected and analyzed out of 212 contacts with industry experts in different types of business and sizes of the enterprise in Sweden through nonprobability sampling. By application of Non-parametric test, our data analysis revealed that users of ERP as SaaS believed in five real advantages in adoption of ERP as SaaS while they did not agree with any real disadvantages in such adoption. They accepted that adoption of ERP as SaaS a) helps users to run their business more globally, b) enhances users’ business to go mobile, c) reduces large up-front investment of users on resource provision, d) saves technology costs, and e) helps users not to be concerned about management and maintenance of the ERP as SaaS. Moreover, our final results showed that majority of every enterprise size do not have plan of adopting ERP as SaaS in the future. Based on the findings, detailed discussion will be given about social consequences of the results and underlying reasons which could have impact on recognition of few real advantages and no real disadvantages in this study.

Heroin usage is on the increase in the Western Cape province of South Africa owing to globalization and to increased access to the drug in this province. The goal of this study is to explore the experiences of coloured heroin users in the Metro South area of Cape Town, which stretches from Simons Town and Muizenberg to Retreat, Lavender Hill, Grassy Park, Parkwood and Wynberg. These individuals have been found to congregate in the Wynberg CBD. The overarching theoretical framework for the purpose of this research is social constructionism and symbolic interactionism, using a qualitative means of inquiry. Snowball sampling was used to recruit prospective participants and data was collected by means of in-depth interviews, with a semi structures interviewing schedule. The questions informed the subsequent themes and categories that arise from the data collection process. Snowball sampling was employed in this case, a non-probability sample, in which participants were recruited via key informants. The sample distribution included 13 participants, 10 of which were heroin users (5 female, 5 male) and the remaining 3 were key informants which contributed to triangulation of the data.

Abstract The aim of this thesis was twofold: firstly, to increase understanding about the user of health information; namely about differences of users´ characteristics of health information behaviour, and secondly, to contribute to the research on factors that could be used as bases to tailor health information. Health information behaviour was scrutinised as information needs and seeking and information use in particular. It was also studied in relation to individuals´ physical health status. More studies on information use are needed, because understanding individual characteristics in issues related to information use has been considered critical for promoting healthy behaviours. Moreover, the thesis addressed the gap in research on the relationship between health information behaviour and tailoring health information. The thesis consists of three empirical studies and a literature review. The empirical research environments were provided by an intervention study aiming to prevent type 2 diabetes among a high risk population and by a population-based study among military conscription aged men. The setting was the City of Oulu in Northern Finland with the University of Oulu and the Oulu Deaconess Institute as the main operators of the studies. The empirical data were collected through questionnaires as well as through physiological and biochemical measurements during years 2010 and 2011. The data were analysed with statistical methods. Moreover, a literature review of tailored interventions studies using a computer as the medium of delivery in the context of physical activity, nutrition and weight management, was conducted. The findings indicate differences in health information users´ characteristics related to their information use as such and in relation to the indicators of their physical health status. It is suggested that, for example, health information presentation could be tailored on the basis of found differences and different message strategies and tactics could be used for different kinds of individuals. In addition, in the literature review the biases of tailored intervention studies stood out as influential on their outcomes. The thesis contributes to the current field of research on both health information behaviour and tailoring health communication. Moreover, the findings can support the development of more effective health promotion programs and intervention studies
Tiivistelmä Väitöskirjatutkimukseni tavoitteena on lisätä ymmärrystä terveystiedon käyttäjistä ja erityisesti heidän terveysinformaatiokäyttäytymiseensä liittyvistä ominaisuuksista. Tutkimukseni tuottaa tietoa tekijöistä, joita voidaan käyttää terveystiedon räätälöinnin lähtökohtana. Terveysinformaatiokäyttäytymistä tarkastelen tiedontarpeiden ja -hankinnan sekä erityisesti tiedon käytön näkökulmasta. Informaatiokäyttäytymistä tutkitaan myös suhteessa tiedon käyttäjän fyysiseen terveydentilaan. Tutkimukseni vastaa tarpeeseen tutkia tiedon käyttäjiä, sillä tiedon käyttöön liittyvien yksilöllisten ominaisuuksien ymmärtäminen on keskeistä terveyden edistämisessä. Väitöskirja tuottaa uutta tietoa myös informaatiokäyttäytymisen ja terveystiedon räätälöinnin välisestä suhteesta. Väitöskirjani käsittää neljä osajulkaisua: kolme empiiristä tutkimusta ja kirjallisuuskatsauksen. Empiiriset tutkimukset toteutettiin tyypin 2 diabeteksen ehkäisyyn tähtäävän interventiotutkimuksen (PreDiabEx) ja väestöpohjaisen tutkimuksen (MOPO) tarjoamissa tutkimusympäristöissä. Tutkimusten kohteina olivat miehet ja naiset, joiden riski sairastua tyypin 2 diabetekseen oli korkea sekä kutsuntaikäiset miehet. Tutkimukset toteutettiin Oulussa ja päätoteuttajia olivat Oulun yliopisto ja Oulun Diakonissalaitos. Empiirinen aineisto kerättiin kyselyillä sekä fysiologisilla ja biokemiallisilla terveydentilaa ilmaisevilla mittareilla vuosien 2010 ja 2011 aikana. Aineisto analysoitiin tilastollisesti. Kirjallisuuskatsauksessa analysoidaan fyysisen aktiivisuuden, ravitsemuksen ja painonhallinnan interventiotutkimuksia, joissa tarkastellaan terveystiedon räätälöinnin vaikuttavuutta silloin, kun tiedonvälitykseen käytetään tietokonetta. Empiiristen tutkimusten tulokset viittaavat siihen, että niin terveystiedonkäyttäjien ominaisuuksissa informaatiokäyttäytymisessä kuin sen suhteessa heidän fyysisen terveydentilaansa on eroja. Terveystietoa tulisikin esittää eri tavoin erilaisille ihmisille, muun muassa erilaisia viestistrategioita ja -taktiikoita käyttäen. In Brazil, the last decades have seen the introduction of the private sector in housing provision policies. In this scenario, the government reduced its participation in the process, focusing solely on the roles as a articulator and performing regulatory tasks , through lending to constr uction and obtainment of housing ; context into which the My House My Life program (PMCMV) resides. Simultaneously, post - occupancy evaluation's researches (POE) have gained more prominence in the diagnostics concerning housing production in the country, contributing with essential information to feedback into the design p rocess and to encourage improvements in the quality of the environment built, generating greater value to customers. In this sense, both the POE studies and the specific evaluation studies concerning the measurement of satisfaction levels find validation i n theories and methodologies that have arisen from Psychology, e.g. Environmental Psychology and Social Representations. From this context, the research that is referred to in this document aims to propose improvements to social - interest housing projects ( HIS), from the perspective of the end user. Therefore, by means of adopting a multiple case study as a research strategy, projects delivered from PMCMV (track 1) in CearÃ, were seized as the object and the residents that received the benefits were seized a s the subject. Using multiple data collection instruments, individual interviews and focus groups amongst them, comments of a positive, neutral and negative nature were captured concerning various aspects of housing, as divulged by the participating reside nts during the application of the instruments of data collection. After organizing the collected data into tables, the respondents' points of satisfaction and dissatisfaction concerning the pro duct received were identified; f urthermore, through the applic ation of tools designed for this very purpose, the relevance bestowed by the participants to various aspects of housing were measured. Subsequently, the dissatisfactions detected were turned into improvement guidelines for future development of HIS, consid ering, thusly, the perspective of end users. Finally, contributions to proposals that aim to improve the quality of housing developments were made, through the use of tools derived from the person - environment studies

Nesse cenÃrio, o poder pÃblico reduziu sua participaÃÃo no processo, concentrando-se nas tarefas de regulamentador e articulador, atravÃs da concessÃo de crÃdito para construÃÃo e obtenÃÃo de moradias; contexto este no qual se insere o Programa Minha Casa Minha Vida (PMCMV). Paralelamente, as pesquisas de avaliaÃÃo de pÃs-ocupaÃÃo (APO) vÃm conquistando um maior destaque no diagnÃstico da produÃÃo habitacional do paÃs, contribuindo com informaÃÃes essenciais para retroalimentar o processo de projeto e promover a melhoria da qualidade dos ambientes construÃdos, gerando maior valor para os clientes. Neste sentido, tanto os estudos de APO, quanto os estudos especÃficos de avaliaÃÃo de satisfaÃÃo encontram validade nas teorias e metodologias oriundas, por exemplo, da Psicologia, como a Psicologia ambiental e a Teoria das RepresentaÃÃes Sociais. A partir deste contexto, a pesquisa à qual se refere o presente documento visa à proposiÃÃo de diretrizes de melhorias para projetos de habitaÃÃo de interesse social (HIS), a partir da visÃo dos clientes finais. Para tanto, atravÃs da adoÃÃo de um estudo de caso mÃltiplo como estratÃgia de pesquisa, utilizou-se como objeto, os empreendimentos entregues pelo PMCMV (faixa 1) no Cearà e, como sujeitos, os moradores beneficiados. Utilizando-se mÃltiplos instrumentos de coleta de dados, dentre os quais grupos focais e entrevistas individuais, foram capturados comentÃrios de cunho positivos, neutros e negativos acerca de diversos aspectos da moradia, proferidos pelos moradores participantes durante as aplicaÃÃes dos instrumentos de coleta de dados. ApÃs organizaÃÃo dos dados coletados em tabelas, foram identificados os pontos de satisfaÃÃo e insatisfaÃÃo dos respondentes com relaÃÃo ao produto recebido; alÃm disso, atravÃs da aplicaÃÃo de instrumento para este fim, foram medidas as importÃncias conferidas pelos participantes a diversos aspectos da moradia. Posteriormente, as insatisfaÃÃes detectadas foram transformadas em diretrizes de melhoria para empreendimentos futuros em HIS, considerando, desta forma, a Ãtica dos clientes finais. Por fim, contribuiu-se com proposiÃÃes que objetivam a melhoria de qualidade de EHIS, atravÃs do uso de ferramentas derivadas dos estudos pessoa-ambiente.

This study explores the mental health nurse’s experience of ethical reasoning while overriding the choices of mental health service users within an acute mental health context. When working with service users in acute mental distress a mental health nurse’s clinical decisions will have a controlling element, which can lead to the service user’s freedoms being restricted. This power to restrict freedoms also known as coercion can be explicit, it follows the rule of law, and implicit; ways of controlling that are ‘hidden’. The ethical use of this power requires the nurse to be an effective ethical reasoner who understands both the explicit and implicit nature of this power. Coercive power, which is explicit, has been thoroughly explored; however, there is limited work exploring the use of this power within an ethical context and as a ‘real-time’ practice issue. In addition, there is little work exploring implicit power as a practice issue or as an ethical issue. To examine this knowledge gap this study adopts an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) approach to engender an understanding of the mental health nurse’s personal meaning and experience of using both explicit and implicit coercive power. This approach affords the researcher the opportunity to tease out the personal ‘ethical’ meaning of the participants’ experiences by facilitating an in-depth and sensitive dialogue, which focuses on stimulating conscious ethical reflection. IPA is an idiographic mode of inquiry where sample purposiveness and analytical depth is more important than sample size. On this basis, six qualified mental health nurses were recruited who have used coercive strategies while nursing service users in acute mental distress. The semi-structured interviews were thematically and interpretively analysed, the five superordinate themes that were generated are; the nurse as a practitioner, their values, their practice, their use of coercion, and their ethics. In addition, the results of the study highlighted that coercive strategies are a key part of a mental health nurse’s daily practice both explicitly and implicitly. These strategies can be beneficent; however, this is dependent on the ethical reasoning ability of the nurse and the professional support they receive in practice. Being an effective ethical reasoner requires the nurse to acquire ‘good habits’, a basis for enabling the nurse to work through an ethical challenge in ‘quick time’. Furthermore, to enhance these good habits they also need to have an ‘ethical imagination’. Considering these points, this study recommends mental health nurses when using coercive power use a multi-faceted ethical reasoning approach. This approach should aim to create good ethical habits through continually rehearsing good responses to common practice issues. In addition, this approach should not neglect the need for the nurse to use their ethical imagination and to feel for an ethical solution where required. As a future area for research, this study recognises the skilled use of ethical imagination in the field of mental health nursing requires further exploration.

Energy plays a significant role in a country’s development. Usage of an improved stove that produces biochar could help to reduce the pressure of deforestation, amend soil productivity, and provide cleaner technology for cooking. In Kwale, a county located on the south coast of Kenya, firewood is still used as the primary cooking fuel followed by charcoal. This research aims to investigate the improvements for a Top-litUpDraft (TLUD) biochar-producing gasifier stove, which the users aspired through co-designing. Transformative mixed methods were used as the research design to empower the users’ involvement in the biochar and smallholder farmers in Kenya – improved use efficiency of farm-level organic resources in relation to energy, crops and soil project. Triangulation was used to process the collected data through structured user observations, a focus group discussion, and a semi-structured interview. Between two stakeholders, TLUDgasifier stove users and the manufacturer, there was a difference of opinion for the main priority. Ease of use was the main concern for the users while the manufacturer put forward energy efficiency. Further, the users desired for an increase in the stove’s dimension as its capacity to produce biochar would increase.

Despite the growing interest for autistic users within the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), the research is mostly limited to assistive technology and often neglects autistic users' own perspectives. Exploring autistic users’ experiences of different mainstream technologies that they use may give valuable knowledge. Using Instagram as a case for a qualitative study with 30 autistic adults, this paper contributes with such knowledge and in the process, it challenges preconceptions about autism that are common in HCI-research. Data from interviews and a survey (N=30) is analysed in the context of previous research and design concepts, discussing the implications for design and future research. Findings show that autistic users' needs are often similar to those of users in general, but may be more pronounced, and that if design recommendations are to be useful, researchers need to take the diversity within the autistic population into account more than is currently done.

The increased penetration of smartphones and cheap and easy access to the internethave made mobile instant messaging (MIM) services really popular, rapidly evolving,and mass-adopted. Today the mobile instant messaging (MIM) market is dominated bythe social media giant Facebook which with its two major MIM services FacebookMessenger and WhatsApp, owns about 80 percent of the whole market. However asmore and more people become more aware of their online privacy, people seem to beleaving platforms such as WhatsApp for other platforms. But why is this happening andwhat could be the reasons for this switching behavior? This paper aims to extend theunderstanding of consumer service switching behavior by using the Push, pull, mooring(PPM) framework in the context of MIM. The PPM framework has been acknowledgedto help explain and predict switching behaviors in various offline contexts and onlinecontexts. The framework consists of pull factors which are factors that attract users toan alternative service, push factors that drive users away from an incumbent service,and mooring factors that keep the users using a service even though there are betteralternatives. This study used alternative attractiveness and social influence as pullfactors, dissatisfaction, low trust, and information privacy concerns as push factors andinertia as a mooring factor. Inertia in turn has four components; affective commitment,switching costs, habit, and unfavorable subjective norm. All of the pull and push factorswere hypothesized in this study to have a positive impact on the user's intention toswitch MIM providers. This study used a non-probability sample in order to distributean online survey to collect the necessary data in order to test the hypotheses formulatedin this study. The results seem to indicate that the pull factors, alternative attractiveness,and social influence as well as the push factors dissatisfaction and information privacyhave a significant effect on a MIM user’s switching intention while the inertiacomponents affective commitment, habit, and unfavorable subjective norm aresignificant to inertia. However, the inertia component switching cost fails to accomplishthe same result. On the other hand, the push factor low trust failed to give a significantresult. At the same time inertia, which acts as a mooring factor, seems to negativelyaffect MIM users switching intention.

This thesis presents the data extraction of digitized old newspaper content and the implementation of a search function to simplify for the user. This is developed as a master’s degree project at Linköping University. The application allows the user to search for interesting content in a database of articles and can be used by both genealogists, local historians and novices. The database is filled with data from OCR scanned newspapers and the user can either search the database by their own or with the help of their family tree. The family tree is implemented by reading the users GEDcom file and extracting useful information that is then used to get better search results. The result is returned to the user in the form of digital articles. The work concludes that the information from GEDcom files can be used to find new interesting facts and that the user should be allowed to affect how the data is reduced, in the form of article categorization and filtering.

As the Internet becomes more pervasive, the content and services are increasing in quantity as well as improving in quality. This trend is fostered by the advancement of technologies, such as RESTful services, Web 2.0, and Mashups. Service composition integrates services to fulfill specific tasks using a set of tools. The existing service composition techniques and tools are mainly designed for the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) professionals. The business processes used in the service composition systems are primarily designed by business analysts who have extensive process knowledge. Due to the lack of process knowledge, novice business analysts and end users face challenge to identify and orchestrate service into a well-defined business process. Even for the experienced users, it is challenging to select appropriate services from a set of functionally similar services as the quality information of services may not be available. In this thesis, we propose a framework that allows a non-technical user to combine web services to achieve a goal. Our approach helps users to find the process knowledge from the web. We index web services based on the semantic concepts available in the service description documents and help users to formulate a web service search query. We use online reviews to choose a web service from a set of functionally similar web services. Our approach automatically finds the data flow between web services and generates a user interface to execute a composite service. The effectiveness of our proposed approaches is demonstrated through a series of case studies. The results of our case studies show that our approaches for process knowledge extraction, service discovery, and service selection make it easier for people with less technical knowledge to compose services.

In the process of urban development for Kaohsiung City, Waterfront renewal is a key point for the growth of economics. As the Kaohsiung government pushes the industrialization in the recent years, meaning between the waterfront and inhabits in Kaohsiung is not only the satisfied economics. The most important goal for Kaohsiung government is how to make waterfront active, keep ecologically sustainable development, and form this city in competitiveness. Kaohsiung harbor only had the resource in area and created the fourth containerize transshipment central in the world. However, due to the times migration and environmental impact, Kaohsiung harbor facts the dead end .for low using and leisure. In order to correspond the times and satisfied for people and work the national import planning, it is necessary for government to think how to renew the harbor. In the studies, the research area is “City renew planning for old kaohsiung city road station and road close to the harbor “and combine with “No 1~22 Kaohsiung city renewal planning”. According to compare the successful experiment for feignal waterfront renewal and study the evidence for kaohsiung city, it is a reference for the kaohsiung government to plan the waterfront renewal and create a new opportunity to form the new city impression and sustainable development for waterfront city. In this study , No 1~22 hobors are investigated.use of design of “water-front redevelopment-water-accessible ” , “ water-front redevelopnment–active space”, “recreation of coastal tourism”, and “public air” after recreating the studying is understood results are as the follows. 1 .The behavior of “design of water-front redevelopment-water-accessible space” for most user is positive. and satisfied . However ,clean of water quality and a mount of children ? playing facilities keep a negative behavior. 2 .No.1~No.22 do not require the anticipate economical benefit users support the operate-transfer system,such as BOT method, is took in the future. 3 .The number of cloud shelvings and public toilets is not enough. Increase the number in order to improve the access. 4 .Replace blank-rigidly mixed concrete with planting environment and eco-revetment. Improving the water basin, the view point of landspace, and recreation environment create new aesthetics for city.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors influencing SNS (social networking sites) users’ satisfaction from the perspective of experiential marketing. An experiential survey was conducted. The voluntary respondents who were Facebook members or Plurk members were asked to answer the questionnaire based on their experiences of using the SNS. By using PLS analysis with 200 Facebook users, and 120 Plurk users the results of this study indicate that customer satisfaction will be affected by customer experience, including sensory experiences (SENSE), affective experiences (FEEL), physical experiences, behaviors and lifestyles (ACT). In addition, SNS users’ usage intention will be positively affected by the degree of satisfaction. The contributions of this study are two-fold: 1) This study applies strategic experiential modules (SEMs) in the analysis of SNS users’ behavior. Our research model provides implications for future studies related to SNS. 2) This study reveals that SNS users’ different experiences can be regarded as important determinants for users’ satisfaction which, in turn, affects usage intention. Practitioners have to design website functions which can make memorable using experience.

The advances in economies, transportation technology, finance, truism, and health promotion concepts make combining medical services and truism a popular trend. Geographically Taiwan locates close to main land China. Both Taiwan and China have similar history and culture. Most importantly, Taiwan has certain attractions to the trusts of China. Therefore, Taiwan government made major modifications in medical tourism policies for allowing more China tourists to Taiwan. Similar to other countries in Southeast Asia with prevalent medical tourism, Taiwan government also established a portal to actively promote publicity materials and marketing. In order to conform to the trend of smartphones and mobile applications, other than an App for Taiwan medical Tourism also launched to attract more mainland China patients to tour and care by Taiwan hospitals. However, the impacts of App for Taiwan medical Tourism were not evaluated. Therefore, we will construct a research model based on literature review and conduct a survey to understand the factors that influence Chinese tourists intentions to use the Taiwan medical Tourism App. The results of this study can serve as a reference to improve the content and functionality of the App, and further achieve the tangible benefits from both to enhance the visibility of the Taiwan medical Tourism. This research uses the decomposed theory of planned behavior to construct research model of this study. The results showed that, the original dimensions of decomposed theory of planned behavior will affect Chinese users in intentions of use of Taiwan Medical Tourism App, besides Information quality of App also plays an important role in App whether it is useful and easy to use.

Due to the application of information technology and the Internet boom recently, enterprises have to confront the environment of high competition, and emphasis on rapid transition. Many enterprises attempt to increase efficiency when they face competition by developing integrated application systems. However, the prompt sharing of accurate business information has crucial impact on the work performance of employees. Therefore, the advent of Enterprise Information Portals (EIP) integrates related business information. Through the development of the enterprise information portals, enterprises can connect up to all internal integrated information systems and thus enable employees to access the enterprise resources sufficiently. Consequently, the purpose of this study is to develop a success model of EIP, based on the updated DeLone & McLean’s model of information systems success proposed in 2003, and also to conduct the empirical test. By using structure equation modeling (SEM), the study has the following conclusions: (1) System use is not significantly affected by system quality. (2) Information quality and service quality have significant positive impact on system use. (3) System quality, information quality and service quality have significant positive impact on user satisfaction. (4) User satisfaction has significant positive impact on system use. (5) System use and user satisfaction have significant positive impact on user performance.

As society has progressed into the 21st Century, conducting business via the Internet has become a common practice for many people. With the rapid innovation and advancement of mobile communication technology and the forthcoming third generation (3G) mobile network, a new way to conduct and deliver products and services has evolved. The concept known as mobile commerce (m-commerce) is now gaining more attention from both the IS research community as well as business organisations on a worldwide basis. However, at present there is only a limited understanding of how to promote the uptake of (m-commerce by end users. From a review of the literature it became apparent that there is a considerable body of know ledge in relation to m-commerce adoption from a perspective of end users as technology end users. However, it also became evident that the issue of the adoption of m-commerce from a perspective of end users as consumers has been largely ignored by IS researchers. In addition, the results of research that has focussed on the barriers and values related to m-commerce from an end user perspective have generally been inconclusive. In response the objective of the research presented in this thesis is to gain a '-better understanding from an end user consumer perspective, of the adoption of m-commerce. This research represents an exploratory study based on the general population in Tasmania, the island state of Australia. It was based on a quantitative approach with questionnaires administered to 300 people selected at random from the three Telstra telephone directories applicable in this state. The major findings of this research have identified the services where end users as consumers are more likely to adopt m-commerce. It has also identified that efficiency and mobility were the key value dimensions viewed by the respondents as most important in m-commerce. Even though the respondents expressed a willingness to use m-commerce, paradoxically they indicated a preference to use the services via a stationary PC in a fixed setting such as at home and at work. Among these respondents the difficulty inputting text data and perceived high usage cost were identified as keys barrier for end-user adoption of m-commerce. The findings were compared with research conducted in Finland. This provided an opportunity to consider the situation in Tasmania with respect to m-commerce adoption against that in a highly technologically advanced country. It is proposed that this research has made contributions to both knowledge and practice in relation to the adoption of m-commerce from all. end user as consumer perspective. Finally, based on the experience of conducting this research opportunities or future research were proposed.

The increasing availability of information and broader content on the World Wide Web has provided citizens with ample alternatives to paying a visit to public library. Public libraries are no longer the only one information institutions they were somedecades ago. There has been a major rethink in how exactly the library should be serving the public, the library organization has to show its increasing public value. In order to measure the outcomes of public libraries and how frequently do people benefit from public library services in various areas of life. A survey investigation was collected in Taiwan public library user. The category of public library outcomes was based on Vakkari and Serola (2012) Finns nationwide survey. The benefits produced by the public library can be categorized into four outcome types: Education、Work and business、Everyday activities and Leisure time. It was found that respondents most commonly derived benefits from public library use in education, followed by leisure time、work and business and everyday activities. Also, it is shown that the perceived outcomes of public library is associated with gender, age, educational level, income and book reading. And the active library user derived greater benefits. Based on these results, there are some suggestions for public libraries rethink customer service policy.

At a time when Australia’s immigration policy encourages greater cultural diversity, significant gaps exist in the literature and practice governing the design of housing for culturally diverse groups in South Australia. Increasing migration from Asia, Africa and the Middle East presents a number of issues for social housing designers and providers who need to be aware of the diverse needs of these groups. This study investigates the housing requirements of several cultural groups living in South Australia and compares these needs with currently available accommodation arrangements for new migrants who are dependent on the social housing sector. The study also examines how well the designers and managers of social housing understand the specific needs of these groups. In this way the concept of culturally appropriate housing is explored in the context of the norm, the South Australian archetypal house, although the findings may be utilised by other organisations in Australia and overseas. Using this comparative approach, both similarities and mismatches in design requirements for specific groups are identified. This information is then analysed to suggest appropriate policy changes for social housing providers that would better meet the needs of culturally diverse groups living in Australia today. The range of current literature from the United Kingdom, USA and Australia, although limited in this area of research, is investigated critically to establish a means of identifying the key factors required in the design of housing for cultural diversity. The study then examines the housing needs of Afghan, Sudanese and Iraqi residents in South Australia. A similar study conducted with key members of HousingSA, who design and deliver social housing in the State, obtains an understanding of their awareness of the importance of design issues for culturally diverse groups. Finally, the social housing options available to culturally diverse groups in South Australia are investigated through an analysis of existing HousingSA house designs. The findings give an insight into how current social housing in South Australia meets the needs of a range of culturally diverse groups, while also achieving the broad objectives of HousingSA. Areas needing attention are identified, in terms of the physical design of housing and the delivery process, as are possible changes to existing policies and procedures to assist architects, managers and service delivery professionals in providing social housing for cultural diversity. It is hoped that, through the study of housing needs and practice, this thesis will contribute relevant literature to inform housing policy makers and providers in this field.

The rising and rapid widespread of mobile devices have significantly changed the way modern people interact through various sorts of messages. Given wireless networking technologies are becoming more and more mature; the rapid development of hardware and software development makes network resources and interpersonal information more immediate and convenient. Today, the mobile devices users who use mobile internet and app applications are also going an upswing trend in the network environment. Based upon the perspective of theory of the uses and gratifications (U&G), this study aims at exploring the behavioral intention of mobile device users using App applications. By extending and elaborating prior literature, this study manifested the antecedent latent variables as social structure, technological characteristics, and individual cognitive factors to examine the pros and cons among mobile device users’ continuance intentions and the degree of stickiness on using App applications. Through rigorous theoretical development processes, we further proposed a conceptual framework to validate the effects of the proposed major constructs on the stickiness of mobile device users. A large scale survey study was conducted to collect the empirical data from the smart phone users in Taiwan. Finally, two hundred and ninty five questionnaires were received. The partial least squares (PLS) method was applied validate the proposed conceptual framework and related plausible hypotheses. The PLS analysis results indicated that all hypotheses are supported, the related social structure and technology characteristics and individual cognitive factors have significant effects on users’ gratification, and their gratification also has a positive and significant impact on the continuance motivation. The higher gratification and continuance motivation of mobile device users comes with the more obvious stickiness behavior of mobiles device users using App applications. The research findings of this current study are expected to proffer instrumental guidelines and practical implications for the App applications developers and designers with more insightful understandings regarding the functions and requirements that mobile device user really need when using App applications.

"Facebook", originally used as a tool for the new members to know the community of the school like universities and etc. Later, it was written as a community web site by a Harvard University student. In this study, experiential value of ideas to explore what Facebook provides value determines the behavior of users continued use. And trying to use the interpersonal theory of investment model to explore the antecedents of website stickiness intension for users. In this study, those who using traditional Chinese version of Facebook are the object under test. Questionnaire via the Internet 305 were valid then collected to be analyzed. Results analysised by SPSS and LISREL, the study found, Quality of Alternatives would be a negative impact on the user's commitment to the relationship; Investment Size would be a positively impact on the user's commitment to the relationship; among the experiential values, there would be positively impact on the user's commitment to the relationship is Hedonic Value, while Utilitarian Value, Obligation Value and Status Value for the impact were negative; Commitment will be a positive impact on the user's Stickiness Intention.

This dissertation develops a framework of analysis that categorizes features of e-government website design in a matrix of knowledge-acquiring process versus learners’ values. The proposed framework supports a development plan for a cyber governmental website that may involve all aspects of a learning process. A framework for analysis is first proposed. Data are then obtained from 137 part-time students in a computer lab setting. Participants are requested to extend distributed learning experience via e-government website. The instruments used for obtaining their opinion were open-ended questionnaires. Two focus group interviews are also conducted. An iterative analyzing strategy based on grounded theory is employed to obtain the results. Analytical results of the data based on the framework reveals many insights. Participants have indicated that multilingual interface and personalized e-newsletters facilitate meaningful knowledge application, navigational aids via information affiliations, knowledge contents and other designs related to interactive knowledge sharing are important. The proposed framework is a valuable tool for knowledgeable e-government website planning, development, and maintenance in terms of learning-value perspective.
