A compact UWB-MIMO antenna design with an impedance bandwith from 3.2 GHz to 9.1 GHz is presented. The MIMO antenna has a transmission coefficient response less than -14 dB at the resonance frequency bandwidth. To improve the isolation and the antenna performance, an Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) structure is introduced between elements, that consists of an added microstrip at ground plane, a 9x1 periodic metal-square patches on top of the substrate, and vertical vias connecting the patches to the ground plane. The EBG structure design methodology is presented. The isolation enhancement between elements is 4 dB at frequency bandwidth. The compact UWB-MIMO antenna with EBG structure reaches a maximum isolation of -33 dB at 6.42 GHz. The peak gain is 4.8 dBi at 7.3 GHz in the H-plane radiation, and 3.3 dBi at 7.3 GHz in the E-plane radiation.

This paper presents a novel low-profile microstrip antenna with an omnidirectional radiation pattern for an artillery-launched observation round. The proposed antenna consists of one centered hexagonal patch for a feeding network and six periodic arrays of a trapezoid patch for a radiator. The trapezoid patch is equal to a half-sized hexagonal patch based on geometrical symmetry. A gap-coupled one-hexagonal patch and six trapezoid patches are supported on a nonfundamental TM02 mode for vertically polarized omnidirectional radiation patterns. In addition, a meshed ground structure for the proposed antenna is employed to improve the impedance bandwidth. The thin metal wires that are formed by the meshed ground structure yield six trapezoid slot arrays for the feeding network and three triangular slot arrays for the radiator on the ground plane. To verify the feasibility of the meshed ground structure, the mesh width, denoted by w, was investigated theoretically and optimized carefully to enlarge the impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna. Finally, the proposed antenna, with a mesh width of 0.2 mm, successfully demonstrated excellent monopolar radiation at a resonant frequency of 5.84 GHz, a realized gain of 5.27 dBi, and an impedance bandwidth of 452 MHz from 5.583 GHz to 6.035 GHz with respect to 7.78% at a center frequency of 5.809 GHz.

Abstract In this paper, an ultra-broadband flexible polarization-insensitive microwave metamaterial absorber is proposed, characterized, and fabricated. To achieve high broadband absorption, a two-layer periodic indium-tin-oxide (ITO) patches array printed on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) dielectric layers is used to generate high ohmic loss. The simulation results show that the proposed absorber can achieve greater than 90% absorption in the microwave band range of 19.68 to 94.7 GHz. The absorber is polarization-insensitive due to the symmetry of the structure with high absorption over a wide incidence angle of 60°. The mechanism of ultra-broadband absorption is discussed by the impedance matching theory, the surface current distribution, and the electric field distribution. In addition, the equivalent circuit model is utilized to analyze the effect of the structural parameters. Furthermore, the bow-frame method validates that the experimental measurements are consistent with the simulated spectra. With advantages of absorption of ultra-broadband, polarization-insensitivity, and flexibility, the proposed absorber facilitates its use in numerous potential applications for energy harvesting, imaging and sensing, stealth technology, modulating, and so on.

Vegetation phenology is that branch of science that describes periodic plant life cycle events across the growing seasons. Remote sensing typically monitors these significant events by means of time series of vegetation indices, permitting to characterize vegetation dynamics. It is well known that vegetation in urban areas, i.e., green spaces in general, may benefit human health mainly by mitigating noise and air pollution, promoting physical or social activities, and improving mental health. Based on the influence that green space exposure seems to exert on Public Health and using a multidisciplinary approach, we mapped phenological behavior of urban green areas to explore yearly persistence of their potential favorable effect, such as heat reduction, air purification, noise mitigation, and promotion of physical/social activities and improvement of mental health. The study area corresponds to the municipality of Torino (about 800,000 inhabitants, NW, Italy). Renouncing to a rigorous at-species level phenological description, this work investigated macro-phenology of vegetated areas for the 2018, 2019 and 2020 years with reference to the new free and open Copernicus HR-VPP dataset. Vegetation type, deduced with reference to the 2019 BDTRE official technical map of the Piemonte Region, was considered and related to the correspondent macro-phenology using a limited number of metrics from the HR-VPP dataset. Investigation was aimed at exploring their capability of providing synthetic and easy-to-use information for urban planners. No validation was achieved about phenological metrics values (assuming their accuracy correspondent to the nominal one reported in the associated manuals). Nevertheless, a spatial validation was operated to investigate the capability of the dataset to properly recognize vegetated areas, thus providing correspondent metrics. Preliminary results showed a spatial inconsistency related to the HR-VPP dataset, that greatly overestimates (about 50%) vegetated areas in the city, assigning metric values to pixels that, if compared with technical maps, do not fall within vegetated areas. The work found out that, among HR-VPP metrics, LOS (Length Of Season) and SPROD (Seasonal Productivity) well characterized vegetation patches, making it possible to clearly read vegetation behavior, which can be effectively exploited to zone the city and make management of green areas and real estate considerations more effective.

ABSTRACTNovel two and three-dimensional doubly negative metamaterials (DNM), viz. metamaterial with simultaneously negative permittivity, permeability, and index of refraction, are introduced. The metamaterials comprise deeply subwavelength periodic unit cells, can be tuned to operate in the near infra-red and visible spectra, and can be manufactured using standard nanofabrication methods with compatible materials. The DNMs' unit cell comprises an optically thin metal film sandwiched between two thin metal strips or patches residing at a small distance from the film. The cavity formed between the strips or patches supports resonances with magnetic and electric response that can be tuned to exist in overlapping frequency bands thus leading to the DNM operation.

In order to increase the gain of the patch antenna , a Mushroom-like EBG(Electromagnetic Band Gap ) structure is used . EBG structures enhance the patch antenna’s characteristics of directivity, bandwidth and efficiency . Initially, we determined frequency band gap characteristics of mushroom-like EBG unit cell value by using ANSYS software . The periodic arrangement of such mushroom-like EBG structure was not limited by any inter connecting microstrip lines . Different patches of similar configuration were arranged in a pattern to better improvement in an antenna performance . The final design shows an effective increase in Gain . The current distributions on those metal patches are nearly uniform, allowing for substantial gains throughout the working bandwidth. Keywords—EBG , mushroom-like EBG, ANSYS software ,Broadband .

ABSTRACTWe employ a combination of Z-contrast scanning transmission electron microscopy (Z-STEM) and first-principles density-functional calculations to investigate the interaction between metal atoms and cubic alumina catalytic supports. We show that there are two observed La sites at the porous γ- alumina surface, and that single La atoms do not exhibit a tendency to cluster. Cr behaves very differently from La - it has a tendency to cover the alumina surface in ordered, periodic raft-like patches. The degradation of the chromia/alumina catalyst is related to the possibility for the chromium to move away from the surface into the bulk, and the activation barrier for such a process is higher in η- alumina than in γ- alumina, i.e., η- alumina is a more durable support for chromium catalyst.

Adult-onset subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) is rare, and focal myoclonus as a presenting feature poses a diagnostic dilemma. We report an adult SSPE patient with unusual clinical and radiological features. A 20-year-old girl had jerky neck movement 9 months earlier, which progressed to left hemimyoclonus in 2 months and generalized frequent myoclonus and fall at 4 months. By 6 months, she was bedbound. On examination, her Mini-Mental State Examination score was 10, and patchy retinitis was observed around the macula. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed corpus striatal involvement and electroencephalography showed periodic discharges. Measles cerebrospinal fluid/serum immunoglobulin G index was 3.3 (normal < 1.3), confirming the diagnosis of SSPE. SSPE should also be considered in adults having focal myoclonus with corpus striatal lesion. EEG is helpful in the diagnosis.

Abstract Boddington is a giant, enigmatic, and atypical Archean Au-Cu deposit hosted in a small, remnant greenstone belt within granite-gneiss and migmatite of the Southwest terrane of the Yilgarn craton, Western Australia. Primary Au and Cu (and Mo) mineralization consists of a network of thin fractures and veins, controlled by shear zones, and dominantly hosted by early dioritic intrusions and their immediate wall rocks, which comprise felsic to intermediate-composition volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks. The pre-~2714 Ma host rocks are typically steeply dipping and strongly deformed, with early ductile and overprinting brittle-ductile fabrics, and have been metamorphosed at mid- to upper greenschist facies. Features consistent with porphyry-style mineralization, classic orogenic shear zones, and intrusion-related Au-Cu-Bi mineralization are all recognized, giving rise to a variety of genetic interpretations. It is clear that Boddington does not fit any classic Archean orogenic gold deposit model, having a general lack of quartz veins and iron carbonate alteration, a Cu (Mo and Bi) association, zoned geochemical anomalism, and evidence of high-temperature, saline ore-forming fluids. Detailed petrographic, geochemical, and melt inclusion studies suggest a late-stage ~2612 Ma, monzogranite intrusion as one of the principal sources of the mineralizing fluids. However, there is also local evidence for older, perhaps protore, porphyry-style Cu (±Au) in the dioritic intrusions and patchy, locally high-grade, orogenic-style gold mineralization associated with enclosing shear zones and brittle-style deformation, which was focused on the relatively competent dioritic intrusions. The relative contributions of metals from these components to the system may not be resolvable. It appears that the Boddington deposit has been a locus for multiple episodes of intrusion, alteration, and mineralization over an extended period of time, as has been demonstrated in a number of other large Canadian and Australian gold deposits, including the Golden Mile near Kalgoorlie.

Abstract Weld overlay is a repair method that has been used over the last 10 years to limit the growth of bulges and to extend the remaining life of delayed coking drums. Different refinery operators have used varied approaches, ranging from localized patches on specific regions of concern, to bands along circumferential welds, to large sections of structural repair that completely cover a bulged area. The authors have observed the evolution of regions repaired with internal weld overlay on 18 drums over periods of 5 and 8 years. A comparison of bulge sharpness and bulge depth on a year-over-year basis is presented to measure the effectiveness of metal weld overlay and how the overlay impacts continued distortion of the vessel. Furthermore, factors such as the taper ratio in the transition zones, and the distance between the peak of a bulged area and the edges of the weld overlay, are presented as key parameters that affect the likelihood of cracks developing along the transition zones at the upper and lower edges of the repair.

Increased survival of oncology patients brings to attention new aspects of adverse effects due to antineoplastic treatment. Psychiatric disorders, cardiovascular disorders as well as the progressive incidence of multiple primary neoplasia are some of the most common side effects. Aim: Care of the oncology patient undergoes an important period of change, from the management of tumor disease to the multidisciplinary approach, centered on improving the quality of life. Method: We present the case of a 75-year-old patient, whose personal pathological history reveals the presence of a diagnosis of left testicular seminoma, in 1978, for which he received radiochemical therapy. An oncological patient under long-term medical supervision for several decades is diagnosed in November 2017 with urothelial carcinoma, infiltrative, invasive in his own muscle patch, pT2NxMx. Approximately 40 years later, the second neoplastic site, the malignant bladder tumor, appears. Facing this diagnosis, the patient becomes anxious, anticipates catastrophic consequences, isolates himself. The family and friends support is essential in these moments, the patient tries cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, as well as various relaxation techniques, which have positive results for the patient attitude towards the disease. He admits, to complete staging, to follow the recommendations of the oncologist, perform proton emission tomography, which detects the presence of two lesions on the right lung. In January 2018, the surgical intervention is done by straight thoracotomy, atypical upper lobe resection and inferior lobectomy is performed. The histopathological and immunohistochemical results describe the presence of the third primary adenocarcinoma neoplasia. The initial emotional reaction is one of anger, denial, followed by demoralization, easy crying, sadness. The patient is examined by the psychiatrist, thus receiving the diagnosis of a severe depressive episode without psychotic symptoms. He follows an anxiolytic, antidepressant, sedative treatment but continues also the cognitive-behavioral therapy. The patient shows good compliance with psychopharmacological treatment and accepts adjuvant chemotherapy courses, which are well tolerated. Throughout the antineoplastic therapy, there was a close collaboration between the psychiatrist and the oncologist, to avoid drug interactions that could have led to interruption of the treatment. Under the oncology supervision, the patient receives another bad news, in September 2018, the fourth neoplastic localization, the prostatic adenocarcinoma pT2bN0M0, is discovered. In this case, in the presence of the combination of synchronous and methacrone tumors, the patient's psyche is deeply affected, continuing the psychopharmacological treatment. Conclusions: Psychiatric disorders are common among oncological patients, and they may suffer serious impairments in quality of life and treatment compliance, psycho-oncological collaboration being indispensable for the success of antineoplastic treatment.
