Abstract Background The COVID-19 pandemic has brought vaccination to the forefront of discourse on public health. The rapid speed of COVID-19 vaccine development, utilization of novel technology, and an atmosphere of politicized misinformation have created a perfect storm for vaccine hesitancy. As early adopters of vaccination, HCWs set an example for the general population; as trusted sources of medical information, they educate and inform. However, comparatively little work has investigated HCWs' attitudes toward vaccination and how those attitudes drive their recommendation behavior. Methods We surveyed hospital employees about their personal reasons for hesitancy and beliefs about patient hesitancies and randomly assigned them to see one of three messages aimed at increasing vaccine confidence. Message themes included an appeal to return to normal life (Normalcy), a risk comparison between vaccinating or not (SDT), and an explanation of the speed of safe and effective vaccine development (Process). Results Of the 674 NC hospital employees who completed our survey in February 2021, 98% had been offered the COVID-19 vaccine, and 80% had already accepted. For the 20% who had not received the vaccine, the top reasons for hesitancy involved the speed of development and testing, and concerns of vaccine safety and effectiveness. We also found differences in susceptibility to misinformation and vaccine hesitancy across political affiliation, which was higher in Republicans compared to Democrats. HCWs were generally very comfortable recommending the COVID-19 vaccine to patients and supported the idea of sharing the message they read. Although the risk comparison message was most trusted personally, the process message was rated as both the most helpful to patients and the most likely to be shared with them (see Figure 1). This suggests that what is most appealing on a personal level is not necessarily what a HCW would recommend to their patients. Rating of personal opinions of the passages. This chart shows the average message ratings across the board when answering whether they thought the passages were understandable, helpful, correct, believable, and trustworthy. (Error bars are 95% CI) There was no significant difference across the messages. The Process message is seen as most helpful and is most likely to be shared with patient than the other messages On left, the average answer on a scale from 1 to 5 for “Do you think the passage you just read would help your patients feel more comfortable about getting the vaccine?” and on right, the average answer for “Would you share this passage with your patients?” Conclusion HCWs' high uptake and minimal hesitancy in recommending the COVID-19 vaccine is encouraging and merits further exploration for how to increase confidence in HCW who are hesitant to discuss and recommend vaccines to patients, as several highlighted the importance of respecting patient autonomy. We examined nurses' comprehension and recall process of patients' passage with double-bind information. We focused on two modes of communication, tone of voice and content of speech. The experiment followed a 2 × 2 × 2 design with respect to listeners (nurse vs student), tone of voice (positive vs negative), and verbal content (positive vs negative). Subjects were 79 nurses who worked at the university hospital and 99 students who were studying at the Faculty of Nursing. Nurses and students were randomly divided into four subgroups; each was presented one of four professionally tape-recorded scripts representing one possible combination of tone of voice and verbal content on the part of a fictitious patient. Listeners then rated the passages on scales and were asked to recall the passages in detail. Listeners recalled and understood passages better when the modes of communication did not conflict. Accuracy in recall reflected comprehension of passages rather than the listener's feelings about the “patient,” especially in double-bind situations. Listeners tended to judge the speaker's feelings by tone of voice rather than verbal content.

One of the climactic passages of the third Gospel is that in which Jesus probes by his resurrection and bodily presence that his message has been confirmed. Consequently, Luke 24 has been of interest to many researchers, but it seems there remain still some exegetical puzzles such as the literary model of the pericope 24:36-49. This article will deal with some questions regarding the meaning of this issue and will try to formulate a response to some open questions by considering the passage in the context of the stories of apparitions of the Imperial Greek and Roman literatures.

Abstract The patient who are bedridden due of weakening of muscles of hands, feet or had lost voice, finds difficult to communicate their needs. These conditions occur when there is an issue in the passage of messages between the brain and the muscles. Some of them are affected with quadriplegia cannot move their limbs and some could move only their eyes. Therefore, the aim of this study is to provide an interactive system which would assist them to communicate with caretakers. Communication was done using pre- defined messages and an alert buzzer to grab attention, for corresponding delay in eye blinks. Once the eye blinks, the eye sensor senses it and compares the duration with the defined delays. If the condition is true then corresponding defined message appears on the display, if the condition is false, then it checks for next condition and so on. The user needs to be trained to communicate through this device. The time delays set for each message can be adjusted as per user’s need. More messages can be displayed by changing the time of closure of the eye. The system is employed to control, manage and communicate with the other people through eye blink action.

One approaches Hesiod's discourse on the twoerides—or, if I am correct, the duplicitous nature oferis—with some trepidation, since the scholarship on this passage has been voluminous and rewarding. But the passage, which Hesiod launches into immediately after the formal prologue of theWorks and Days(11-26), may yet have more to teach us. It is, as Richard Hamilton has recently shown, programmatic for the entire poem; it may also be a definitive statement on the archaic construction of competition and conflict. In it Hesiod urges his brother explicitly (as he does implicitly throughout the poem) to stop coming after him for their father's patrimony and do some productive work; however this simple message is embedded in traditional allusions, poised between intense ambiguities and (like all good archaic poetry) fraught with the resonance of larger issues. All this has made it difficult to achieve scholarly consensus about the meaning of the passage. A close and helpful parallel is provided in theWorks and Daysitself by the brief discussion of the two functions ofaidōs(317-19), helpful primarily because it is in fact one principle with two functions that Hesiod describes there; but to put into relief more of the complexity of 11-16 we need to look at two other archaic passages that offer some perspective on the application of dualistic logic to conflict and related issues.

Abstract This paper examines the message of Qohelet’s Catalogue of Times and its interpretive appendix. Scholars disagree on the extent to which this unit deviates from the traditional free-will theology of the Bible. The paper presents a fresh reading of the passage, which sheds new light on the problem of determinism in Qohelet. Beginning by a novel delineation for the unit, it then suggests fresh solutions for the main exegetical cruxes of the passage (3:14, 15, 17), and finally presents an innovative, somewhat radical, understanding of Qohelet’s approach towards the problem of free will.

AbstractThis paper considers the efficiency of the political market in the California State legislature. I analyzed the property tax limitation voter initiative, Proposition 13. I found that districts which supported Proposition 13 more strongly were more likely to oppose the incumbents regardless of whether the incumbents had the different preferences for property taxes from their districts. I also studied how legislators voted on the bills adopted after the passage of Proposition 13 to finance local governments. I found that legislators tended to follow the constituents’ will after they received the voters’ tax-cutting message expressed by the passage of Proposition 13.

Abstract Josephus’s passage on John the Baptist (Ant. 18.116-119) contains a much-discussed crux interpretum: who are the “others” that are inspired by John’s words and ready to do everything he said (§118), and who are distinguished from those who gave heed to his message and were baptized (§117)? After a brief discussion of the textual witnesses, text, and translation of the passage in question, various interpretations of “the others” are discussed, none of which is entirely satisfactory. In this article a case will be made for accepting the conjecture originally proposed by Benedikt Niese, who assumed that Josephus originally wrote ἀνθρώπων “people” instead of ἄλλων “others.”

The first part summarizes modern biblical and theological scholarship on the scriptural passage. The discussion highlights areas of convergence within different Christian traditions by examining the work of commentators writing from a variety of Christian backgrounds. The second part offers a treatment of the passage within the wider context of the epistle. Drawing from modern commentary, this part of the essay also elaborates on the relationship between faith and secular pursuits envisioned by the James text. Particular focus is directed toward concerns pertaining to the separation of faith from commercial affairs expressed in two recent Roman Catholic magisterial works, Benedict XVI's Caritas in Veritate and the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace document titled Vocation of the Business Leader: A Reflection. The third part extends the discussion in the second part by tracing some further parallels between Jas 4:13–17 and portions of Benedict XVI's Caritas in Veritate.

Les moyens de communication médiée par ordinateur (CMO) et spécifiquement l’application WhatsApp, ont mené à des pratiques langagières innovantes au niveau de la communication écrite. Parmi ces pratiques, le recours à l’alternance codique (AC), qui est définie dans cette étude, comme un passage d’un code écrit à un autre au sein du même message. Cette étude quantitative visait à identifier automatiquement les occurrences de l’alternance codique dans les discussions de groupes WhatsApp durant 14 mois. Nous avons collecté 168 219 messages dans 30 groupes WhatsApp. L’échantillon de l’étude comprend 1 482 étudiants bilingues issus de 7 établissements universitaires libanais. Un outil informatique ‘DACA’ (détection automatique de l’alternance codique et l’arabizi) a été développé pour détecter la fréquence de ce phénomène résultant du contact des langues. Les résultats montrent que dans le corpus il y a 15 342 occurrences de l’AC soit 9,1% du total des messages. 70,5% de ces ACs sont détectés dans les messages en arabizi et 17,9% dans les messages en anglais, 10,6% dans les messages en arabe et 1% dans les messages en français. Les résultats ont montré aussi que les ACs dans les messages composés en arabizi sont assez souvent vers l’anglais (91,3% du total de ces ACs) et vers l’arabizi dans les messages composés en anglais avec le même pourcentage.

Abstract This article examines two orthographic features in the Acrostic Hymn of Nebuchadnezzar II. It aims to show that the text makes use of the possibilities of the cuneiform writing system to create various levels of meaning. The first example clarifies structure and content with regard to a difficult passage in the fourth and last stanza of the text, in which a possible change of actors is indicated by an orthographic feature. The second example shows how orthography is used in the first stanza of the text to augment its message. These examples demonstrate how structural elements and micro-features such as orthography were used creatively to enhance the message of the hymn.

Abstract In an attempt to bring together information about simultaneous interpretation, on the one hand, and cerebral dominance, on the other, this study examines the relative proficiency of interpreters when processing information received through one ear or the other as opposed to two ears. Eighteen subjects (professional interpreters and interpretation students) simultaneously interpreted spoken passages from L2 to Ll: one passage was presented to the interpreters' left ear, one to their right ear, and one to both ears. Results indicated that interpreters performed significantly better when the message was presented to one ear or the other rather than to both ears. Furthermore, there was evidence suggesting that the left-ear-to-right-hemisphere route yielded the best performance. The results are discussed in terms of the nature of the tasks involved during simultaneous interpretation as well as cerebral dominance among bilingual individuals.

Abstract. Homiletical Reflections on the Book of Revelation 5:1–7. The passage mentioned in the title bears several motifs and style characteristics of the apocalyptic literature. One of the many difficulties dealing with the text is that such motifs convey the message (Kerygma) in apocalyptic coded language. Therefore, this study seeks to study the biblical text from the aspect of homiletics. It endeavours to provide some guidepost for preaching and to unfold the messages that are relevant for today’s listeners in the church. It addresses several significant topics such as God’s rule, Christ’s (the Lamb slain) mandate, stepping on the throne, the judgement about the earthly power, and the interpretation of human history in the light of divine rule. Notre article porte sur les lettres d’adieu de 72 Québécois.es entre 20 et 30 ans qui se sont enlevé la vie durant les années 1940-1970. Les 138 lettres étudiées, qui proviennent des Archives du Coroner du district judiciaire de la ville de Montréal, sont approchées dans une perspective que nous qualifions de communicationnelle. Après avoir dégagé cinq idéaux-types selon que le sens du message est de type introspectif ou dyadique par rapport au passage à l’acte, nous mettons en évidence le foisonnement et la multidirectionnalité des thèmes que les individus investissent pour établir leur moi posthume. Nos enseignements montrent aussi que le genre joue un rôle indéniable tant dans le message communiqué que dans la manière dont il est communiqué.

The plasminogen activator streptokinase has been proposed to be a key component of a complex mechanism that promotes skin invasion by Streptococcus pyogenes. This study was designed to compare ska gene message and protein levels in wild-type M1 serotype isolate 1881 and a more invasive variant recovered from the spleen of a lethally infected mouse. M1 isolates selected for invasiveness demonstrated enhanced levels of active plasminogen activator activity in culture. This effect was due to a combination of increased expression of the ska gene and decreased expression of the speB gene. The speB gene product, SpeB, was found to efficiently degrade streptokinase in vitro.

Background.Even though the interpretation of natural language messages is generally conceived as the result of a conscious processing of the message content, the influence of unconscious factors is also well known. What is still insufficiently known is the way such factors work. We have tackled interpretation assuming it is a process, whose basic features are the same for the whole humankind, and employing a naturalistic approach (careful observation of phenomena in conditions the closest to “natural” ones, and precise description before and independently of data statistical analysis).Methodology.Our field research involved a random sample of 102 adults. We presented them with a complete real world-like case of written communication using unabridged message texts. We collected data (participants’ written reports on their interpretations) in controlled conditions through a specially designed questionnaire (closed and opened answers); then, we treated it through qualitative and quantitative methods.Principal Findings.We gathered some evidence that, in written message interpretation, between reading and the attribution of conscious meaning, an intermediate step could exist (we named it “disassembling”) which looks like an automatic reaction to the text words/expressions. Thus, the process of interpretation would be a discontinuous sequence of three steps having different natures: the initial “decoding” step (i.e., reading, which requires technical abilities), disassembling (the automatic reaction, an unconscious passage) and the final conscious attribution of meaning. If this is true, words and expressions would firstly function like physical stimuli, before being taken into account as symbols. Such hypothesis, once confirmed, could help explaining some links between the cultural (human communication) and the biological (stimulus-reaction mechanisms as the basis for meanings) dimension of humankind.

In primary cultures of rat mesangial cells from passage 3 to 6, interleukin-1 beta (IL-1) induced a time-dependent increase in prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) formation and release into the extracellular medium. This increase was associated with a dramatic upregulation of the steady-state levels of mRNA for the prostaglandin endoperoxide synthetase (PES)-2 gene transcript as demonstrated by Northern analysis. In contrast, there did not appear to be a significant increase in the mRNA levels for a 2.8-kb transcript for the PES-1 gene. At 18 h of exposure to IL-1, the steady-state level of message for PES-2 remained elevated at 50% of the 2-h time point. Culturing the cells in the presence of cycloheximide and IL-1 demonstrated a superinduction of the PES-2 message without any change in PES-1 message. The tumor-promoting phorbol ester, phorbol myristate acetate (PMA), was also associated with an upregulation of the message for the PES-2 gene and did not influence the levels of the message for the PES-1 gene as demonstrated by Northern analysis. Dexamethasone (Dex) inhibited to control levels the induction by PMA, but the induction of the message by IL-1 was only inhibited 30%. Despite 70% of the message being present by 2 h of induction, Dex was capable of totally inhibiting the inductive effect of IL-1 with respect to PGE2 biosynthesis. Immunocytochemical studies demonstrated a dramatic induction of PES-2 protein by IL-1, which was inhibited by Dex. The data suggest that Dex inhibits the translation of the PES-2 protein.

Abstract Topic-based style-shifting refers to the variation pattern that, when people talk about a topic, they shift to a linguistic style which is associated with the topic. Most of the research on topic-based variation in read speech have not taken stance-taking into consideration. This study argues that stance-taking needs to be included in the analysis of topic-based variation, for reading something aloud is a practice where individuals engage with the message communicated in a text. This study looks at the socially salient variable /ʂ/ in Taiwan Mandarin, and how deaf speakers exploit this variable to perform their stances towards a passage concerned with the political relationship between hearing people and deaf signers. The findings show that participants who demonstrate a stance of deaf solidarity diverge from standard speech styles in their repertoires when reading the deaf passage.

This article explores the origins of the conjectural emendation on 1 Cor 14.33b–35, first made in 1863 by Jan Willem Straatman. It shows that Straatman attributes the instruction on women's silence to Jewish influence and bases his view on a reconstruction of early Christianity in which Paul and his Gentile message were opposed by Jewish adversaries. This anti-Jewish tendency persisted in subsequent scholarship and has continued to characterise the understanding of this passage into the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

AbstractIn the last chapter of 1 Timothy there is one passage arguing passionately and polemically against differently minded teachers. It calls on its readers to beware of the different teaching (1 Tim 6:3-12). This New Testament text brings forward a train of thought that shows far reaching parallels to the Cynic Philosophy of the 1st and 2nd centuries A.D. The criticism which 1 Timothy passes on its opponents corresponds to the criticism of the contemporary Cynics against their adversaries. It mainly concerns the hypocritical motivations that lead the differently minded teachers to preach their message: according to the view of their critics they only aim to make money out of their teachings. In this reasoning polemical and paraenetical components unite. The careful consideration of this New Testament passage's similarity to the cynic world of thought also faciliates the description of the specific character in the intention of 1 Timothy against the cynic background, i.e. the christological accentuation of the favoured good teaching and lifestyle.

The article addresses the issue of the witness of the Father about Jesus in the Fourth Gospel. The topic is inscribed in the very essential theological message of the Gospel of John, according to which Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of God revealing the Father to the world. In two units of the Fourth Gospel (5:1-47 and 8:12-20) Jesus invokes the witness of the Father in order to prove his divine status. In the first passage Jesus argues that the witness of the Father about him is expressed by the witness of the people (John the Baptist), by Jesus’ works, and by the Scriptures. In the second passage he claims that the Father’s witness authenticates his divine origins, and that thanks to his status as the Son of God he is not subject to human judgment. In a third passage (12:20-36) examined in the article the voice of the Father coming from heaven gives the explicit witness confirming Jesus’ divine status and mission. The motif of the witness of the Father is strictly connected here with the theme of the salvific activity of Jesus in the world as a means of increasing the glory of God.

De plus, les études de faisabilité ont montré que l’intervention par SMS est acceptable pour les patients. L‘objectif principal de cette étude est de démontrer l’efficacité du dispositif de veille par SMS sur la réduction de la récidive suicidaire à 6 mois. Nous présenterons dans un premier temps l’étude de faisabilité puis l’étude multicentrique démarrée dans 8 CHU.Matériel et méthodeIl s’agira d’un essai de supériorité, contrôlé, randomisé, multicentrique, d’une durée de 2 ans, et piloté par le CHRU de Brest. Les sujets seront des adultes ayant survécu à un passage à l’acte suicidaire, inclus après une prise en charge aux urgences ou une courte hospitalisation. Le recrutement s’étalera sur une période de 9 mois. Les SMS seront envoyés à j2, j7, j15, puis mensuellement. Ces messages se soucieront du bien-être du patient, et lui rappelleront les coordonnées d’urgence dont il dispose en cas de besoin. Les patients seront évalués à j0, puis à 6 et 13 mois. Le critère de jugement principal sera le nombre de patients récidivant à 6 mois, dans le groupe recevant les SMS et dans le groupe témoin (qui bénéficie de la prise en charge de référence). Les critères de jugement secondaires seront le nombre de patients récidivant à 13 mois, le nombre de tentatives de suicide à 6 et 13 mois, le nombre de décès par suicide à 6 et 13 mois, dans les deux groupes. Les idées suicidaires seront évaluées dans chaque groupe, à j0, à 6 mois, et à 13 mois. Enfin, les coûts médicaux et la satisfaction seront évalués à 13 mois.Résultats attendusLa fréquence de récidive attendue à 6 mois dans le groupe témoin est de l’ordre de 18 %. Nous espérons la réduire à 9 % grâce au contact par SMS. Afin d’y parvenir, le nombre de sujets nécessaires a été évalué à 530, soit 265 dans chaque bras.DiscussionCe dispositif de veille par SMS s’appuie sur de précédentes interventions, aux résultats significatifs dans le domaine, et est facilement reproductible. In this review, we describe speculative ideas and early stage research concerning the flow of genetic information from the nuclear residence of genes to the disparate, cytoplasmic sites of protein synthesis. We propose that this process of information transfer is meticulously guided by transient structures formed from protein segments of low sequence complexity/intrinsic disorder. These low complexity domains are ubiquitously associated with regulatory proteins that control gene expression and RNA biogenesis, but they are also found in the central channel of nuclear pores, the nexus points of intermediate filament assembly, and the locations of action of other well-studied cellular proteins and pathways. Upon being organized into localized cellular positions via mechanisms utilizing properly folded protein domains, thereby facilitating elevated local concentration, certain low complexity domains adopt cross-β interactions that are both structurally specific and labile to disassembly. These weakly tethered assemblies, we propose, are built to relay the passage of genetic information from one site to another within a cell, ensuring that the process is of extreme fidelity.

Using a large-scale hybrid laboratory and online trust experiment with and without preplay communication, we investigate how the passage of time affects trust. Communication (predominantly through promises) raises cooperation, trust, and trustworthiness by about 50 percent. This result holds even when three weeks pass between the time of the trustee’s message/the trustor’s decision to trust and the time of the trustee’s contribution choice and even when this contribution choice is made outside of the lab. Delay between the beginning of the interaction and the time to reciprocate neither substantially alters trust or trustworthiness nor affects how subjects communicate. (JEL C91, D83, D91, Z13)

1 Thessalonians 1.2-10 is generally understood to be making reference to the Thessalonians participating in missionary activity in which they proclaim the salvific message of Christ. Read this way, the text presumes that the Thessalonians have evangelized areas even before the Paul party arrived. That a newly constituted group of artisans would undertake such an aggressive program seems unlikely. The rhetoric of the passage is better understood in light of the practice of associations in proclaiming honours for their gods and their founders and benefactors, the news about which spread via networks of traders, artisans, and other travelers throughout the provinces of Macedonia and Achaia.

Abstract Study of the varied metaphorical levels of the Book of Mormon continues to yield new insights into the message and meaning of that book. Several prominent typological readings of aspects of the Book of Mormon have been published, but despite calls for such an effort, little inquiry into its possible archetypal levels, or what has been called "the mythic dimension" of the book, has yet been undertaken. As an initial attempt at such an endeavor, I compare certain events described in 1 Nephi with the elements of one prominent mythic archetype, the hero’s journey, as elucidated by Joseph Campbell in his famous The Hero with a Thousand Faces. A strong correlation between the hero’s journey archetype and the events from 1 Nephi is intriguing and seems to demonstrate at least the presence of mythic patterns in the Book of Mormon. This leads to some preliminary conclusions about what the apparent presence of such patterns might signify.

Afin de rendre l’édifice compréhensible, la description physique des lieux est doublée d’une interprétation de la disposition spatiale des volumes architecturaux et des éléments décoratifs. Les trois inscriptions monumentales de l’édifice sont exploitées pour en tirer les éléments sémantiques nécessaires à la compréhension des oppositions fondamentales articulant les lieux : clôture/ouverture, obscurité/lumière, bas/haut, devoir/vouloir, pouvoir/savoir… Au passage, l’analyse d’un rébus figuratif permet d’accéder à un message relatif à l’illumination mystique par la lumière divine. L’analyse sémiotique résout ainsi l’une des énigmes de l’histoire de l’architecture orientale.

On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.’Reconciliation of the relationships broken by sin, or the fall, is one of the central themes of Christianity, as this collection, of studies duly highlights. The themes of reconciliation to God and reconciliation to neighbour run throughout both the New Testament, with special emphasis in Paul’s letters to the Corinthians, and the Hebrew Scriptures, for in this passage from the Gospel of Matthew Jesus was quoting from Deuteronomy and Leviticus. This text would have been well-known to Christian authors on the subject of reconciliation in Western Europe in the thirteenth century; and the passage, or at least its message, should have been familiar to most clergy and many of their people. As an item of catechesis, one of its virtues is that it is short, and thus easy to teach and to remember.

The verification of security protocols is an important basis for network security. Now, some security protocols add timestamps to messages to defend against replay attacks by network intruders. Therefore, verifying the security properties of protocols with timestamps is of great significance to ensure network security. However, previous formal analysis method of such protocols often extracted timestamps into random numbers in order to simplify the model before modeling and verification, which probably cause time-dependent security properties that are ignored. To solve this problem, a method for verifying security protocols with timestamps using model checking technique is proposed in this paper. To preserve the time-dependent properties of the protocol, Promela (process meta language) is utilized to define global clock representing the protocol system time, timer representing message transmission time, and the clock function representing the passage of time; in addition, a mechanism for checking timestamps in messages is built using Promela. To mitigate state space explosion in model checking, we propose a vulnerable channel priority method of using Promela to build intruder model. We take the famous WMF protocol as an example by modeling it with Promela and verifying it with model checker SPIN (Simple Promela Interpreter), and we have successfully found two attacks in the protocol. The results of our work can make some security schemes based on WMF protocol used in the Internet of things or other fields get security alerts. The results also show that our method is effective, and it can provide a direction for the analysis of other security protocols with timestamp in many fields.

In the discussions on the possible religious background of the current ecological crisis, the biblical text of Genesis 1:26–28 is the passage most often quoted by all sides of the debate. While for some it is an incentive to unlimited exploitation, and the resultant degradation of the natural environment, for others it carries a positive ecological message and a call for responsible care of the created world. Due to this ambiguity in interpretations, this article attempts to resolve whether the biblical text itself is problematic, and requires correction, or whether it is ecologically adequate, and it is the interpretations that have been thus far insufficient. Each of the three main currents of the ecological hermeneutics of the Bible (apologetic, radical, and neo-orthodox) offers its own specific answer to this question.

Thus, Scripture passes into Tradition, which is essentially nothing more than the content of Scripture, applied to human life. A seed of redemption, the Old Testament is fulfilled by the New Testament in which the figure of the Savior and his redemptive deeds can be the most appropriate guide for the Christian's life. But we cannot ignore the divine message of the Word of God that comes to perfect justice through love, through deeds that no longer pour out mercy and charity only on a community but on all humanity.

This article is a theological interpretation of Jeremiah’s dispute and God’s answer in Jeremiah 12:1-13. In the midst of his frustration over Anatot’s assassination threat, Jeremiah questions the God’s wisdom. This is a fundamental question about what humans wish for and what they get. However, God’s answer is something unpredictable. In His wisdom, God gives a warning about what will happen in the future that will be even tougher. This Jeremiah’s passage will be read using the rhetorical criticism metho, that will stress the intention of the writer in using such a term or metaphor to deliver his theological message. Finally, it will be found that God’s wisdom is an effort to train Jeremiah and his reader to hold on and look for God in the time of suffering.

Matthew 11:30 could easily be considered one of the most recognizable passages of the New Testament. Many find comfort and fortitude in the words of Jesus, and warm to the idea that his ‘yoke’; is ‘easy’ and ‘burden’, ‘light’. However recognized and familiar this passage may be, it has not gone unnoticed throughout scholarship as a persistent word study in need of incessant explanation. While copious amounts of ink have been spilt discussing the nature of the ‘yoke’ in Matthew 11:30, it is the position of this article that the author of Matthew, had no intention of creating such a mystery. Rather, that the emphasis is to be found in the nature of the yoke itself and the attributive use of χρηστός in Greco-Roman literature, including that of the Greek Old Testament, and the writings of the first-century Christians. This article seeks to demonstrate that the use of χρηστός in the Matthean Gospel does not mean ‘easy’ by English standards, nor was this what the audience of this Gospel would have taken it to mean, given the common use of the term. This is accomplished through an engagement of the text and message of Matthew, followed by an examination of the word’s use in Classical Greek compositions and the Apostolic Fathers, as well as its use in the LXX and the New Testament.

En 1982, la chanson « The Message » du groupe Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five change radicalement la musique rap, autant par sa forme que par son contenu. Elle est le point de départ de la première grande fracture dans l’histoire du hip-hop. Cette étude retrace l’évolution qui a mené à cette transformation et les impacts immédiats qui en ont découlé chez des artistes comme Run-DMC, Rakim et KRS-ONE, en mettant l’accent sur les textes et les maîtres de cérémonie (MCs). Est ainsi cerné le passage d’une poésie orale strictement axée sur la performance à une poésie écrite, née d’un processus réflexif autant pour sa forme que le message qu’elle transmet. De la première fête organisée par Kool Herc au single « It’s Like That » de Run-DMC, les différentes phases du Old School au New School sont exposées en insistant sur les grands mouvements et les tendances. Une attention particulière est également portée à la relation entre le MC et le disque-jockey, car elle semble être la cause principale menant aux transformations, tout en étant la source du conflit qui provoquera la fracture de 1985. Bien que l’étendue historique du corpus étudié semble restreinte, la période de 1973 à 1985 est source de nombreux tiraillements et questionnements qui nous éclairent sur l’état de la culture hip-hop et peut-être même de la scène musicale dans son ensemble.

Punctuation marks are used in English systematically, and in an organised way, to perform certain stylistic, semantic and grammatical functions and achieve effects that can contribute to and affect meaning in some way and in variable degrees. So they are not used haphazardly nor regarded as a mere decoration that has nothing to do with the message of the text, be it a sentence, a paragraph or a long passage. They are meaningful and functional in different types of texts. Hence their importance in translation. In Arabic, however, the situation is completely different. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, punctuation marks almost without exception are ignored, random or misused in all types of texts and contexts, especially in classical books — let alone translated works into Arabic — for no good reasons. This means that there is a big gap to bridge in translation from English into Arabic. This article is a modest attempt to do so. It stresses the importance of punctuation to the message in Arabic, and how to compensate for the loss of meaning incurred by neglecting it, for it entails stylistic, semantic and grammatical functions that are too significant to drop in translation. The argument in favour of the functionality of punctuation in writing and, hence, translation, is confirmed by a discussion of the most important and recurrent punctuation marks, with illustrative examples in both English and Arabic.

The translation of Holy Qur’ān in any language especially English requires optimum level of expertise, composure, in-depth knowledge of literature and diction for an author along with several other competencies. Such an English Translation (selected Surahs) attempt has been produced by Thomas Cleary in modern times. Cleary translated 39 selected Surahs and their handful verses from Qur’ān in the light of six aims of message of Qur’ān narrated by Imām Ghazālī (Jawahir Al-Qur’ān). The translation is produced with the purpose of providing short and easy passage for NonMuslim reader to understand the crux of message of Qur’ān. The circumstances of Arab society, life of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and Revelation of Qur’ān have been discussed to enlighten the reader aboutback ground and history of Islam and Qur’ān. Cleary’s elaboration for Surah Selection based on divisions of Surah into jewels & pearls by Imām Ghazālī has been methodically analyzed. The Poetic diction and rich vocabulary make this translation more powerful and a recommended reading. The brief review conducted in this study not only reviews all sections of the book but also unveils a critical analysis of some of the short comings and lapses in this translation i-e, use of Complex Diction, Arabic vocabulary, Brief Verses Selection from within Surahs and References from controversial Oriental Qur’ān Translations.

The present contribution proposes the study of the exegetical-soteriological assumption, elaborated by Clement of Alexandria in Str. 6, 15, 131, 1-5, where a passage taken from the Vis. II, 1, 3-4 of Hermas is reinterpreted. The Gnostic exegete, who professes the true gnosis, must be aware that while it is possible for everyone to read the sacrad Scripture “letter by letter”, not everyone will be in a position to undertake the “Gnostic explanation”, but only those to which faith has opened the depths of the text, “the elect”, so that they are able to progress from the “letter” to the “syllable” bringing to light the message that goes beyond the letter, which is already engraved in the “new heart” and now preserved in the book that has been “renewed” by the Savior, the Logos of God.

We are very pleased and honored to have an opportunity to publish a new journal the "International Journal of Advanced Computational Intelligence" (JACI). The JACI is a new, bimonthly journal covering the field of computer science. This journal focuses on advanced computational intelligence, including the synergetic integration of neural networks, fuzzy logic and evolutionary computations, in order to assist in fostering the application of intelligent systems to industry. This new field is called computational intelligence or soft computing. It has already been studied by many researchers, but no single, integrated journal exists anywhere in the world. This new journal gives readers the state of art of the theory and application of Advanced Computational Intelligence. The Topics include, but are not limited to: Fuzzy Logic, Neural Networks, GA and Evolutionary Computation, Hybrid Systems, Network Systems, Multimedia, the Human Interface, Biologically-Inspired Evolutionary Systems, Artificial Life, Chaos, Fractal, Wavelet Analysis, Scientific Applications and Industrial Applications. The journal, JACI, is supported by many researchers and scientific organizations, e.g., the International Fuzzy Systems Association (IFSA), the Japan Society of Fuzzy Theory and Systems (SOFT), the Brazilian Society of Automatics (SBA) and The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers (SICE), and we are currently negotiating with the John von Neumann Computer Society (in Hungary). Our policy is to have world-wide communication with many societies and researchers in this field. Zadeh The publication of the International Journal of Advanced Computational Intelligence (JACI) is an important milestone in the advancement of our understanding of how intelligent systems can be conceived, designed, built, and deployed. When one first hears of computational intelligence, a question that naturally arises is: What is the difference, if any, between computational intelligence (CI) and artificial intelligence (AI)? As one who has witnessed the births of both AI and CI, I should like to suggest an answer. As a branch of science and technology, artificial intelligence was born about four decades ago. From the outset, AI was based on classical logic and symbol manipulation. Numerical computations were not welcomed and probabilistic techniques were proscribed. Mainstream AI continued to evolve in this spirit, with symbol manipulation still occupying the center of the stage, but not to the degree that it did in the past. Today, probabilistic techniques and neurocomputing are not unwelcome, but the focus is on distributed intelligence, agents, man-machine interfaces, and networking. With the passage of time, it became increasing clear that symbol manipulation is quite limited in its ability to serve as a foundation for the design of intelligent systems, especially in the realms of robotics, computer vision, motion planning, speech recognition, handwriting recognition, fault diagnosis, planning, and related fields. The inability of mainstream AI to live up to expectations in these application areas has led in the mid-eighties to feelings of disenchantment and widespread questioning of the effectiveness of AI's armamentarium. It was at this point that the name computational intelligence was employed by Professor Nick Cercone of Simon Fraser University in British Columbia to start a new journal named Computational Intelligence -a journal that was, and still is, intended to provide a broader conceptual framework for the conception and design of intelligent systems than was provided by mainstream AI. Another important development took place. The concept of soft computing (SC) was introduced in 1990-91 to describe an association of computing methodologies centering on fuzzy logic (FL), neurocomputing (NC), genetic (or evolutionary) computing (GC), and probabilistic computing (PC). In essence, soft computing differs from traditional hard computing in that it is tolerant of imprecision, uncertainty and partial truth. The basic guiding principle of SC is: Exploit the tolerance for imprecision, uncertainty, and partial truth to achieve tractability, robustness, low solution cost, and better rapport with reality. More recently, the concept of computational intelligence had reemerged with a meaning that is substantially different from that which it had in the past. More specifically, in its new sense, CI, like AI, is concerned with the conception, design, and deployment of intelligent systems. However, unlike mainstream AI, CI methodology is based not on predicate logic and symbol manipulation but on the methodologies of soft computing and, more particularly, on fuzzy logic, neurocomputing, genetic(evolutionary) computing, and probabilistic computing. In this sense, computational intelligence and soft computing are closely linked but not identical. In basic ways, the importance of computational intelligence derives in large measure from the effectiveness of the techniques of fuzzy logic, neurocomputing, genetic (evolutionary) computing, and probabilistic computing in the conception and design of information/intelligent systems, as defined in the statements of the aims and scope of the new journal of Advanced Computational Intelligence. There is one important aspect of both computational intelligence and soft computing that should be stressed. The methodologies which lie at the center of CI and SC, namely, FL, NC, genetic (evolutionary) computing, and PC are for the most part complementary and synergistic, rather than competitive. Thus, in many applications, the effectiveness of FL, NC, GC, and PC can be enhanced by employing them in combination, rather than in isolation. Intelligent systems in which FL, NC, GC, and PC are used in combination are frequently referred to as hybrid intelligent systems. Such systems are likely to become the norm in the not distant future. The ubiquity of hybrid intelligent systems is likely to have a profound impact on the ways in which information/intelligent systems are conceived, designed, built, and interacted with. At this juncture, the most visible hybrid intelligent systems are so-called neurofuzzy systems, which are for the most part fuzzy-rule-based systems in which neural network techniques are employed for system identification, rule induction, and tuning. The concept of neurofuzzy systems was originated by Japanese scientists and engineers in the late eighties, and in recent years has found a wide variety of applications, especially in the realms of industrial control, consumer products, and financial engineering. Today, we are beginning to see a widening of the range of applications of computational intelligence centered on the use of neurofuzzy, fuzzy-genetic, neurogenetic, neurochaotic and neuro-fuzzy-genetic systems. The editors-in-chief of Advanced Computational Intelligence, Professors Fukuda and Hirota, have played and are continuing to play majors roles both nationally and internationally in the development of fuzzy logic, soft computing, and computational intelligence. They deserve our thanks and congratulations for conceiving the International Journal of Advanced Computational Intelligence and making it a reality. International in both spirit and practice, JACI is certain to make a major contribution in the years ahead to the advancement of the science and technology of man-made information/intelligence systems -- systems that are at the center of the information revolution, which is having a profound impact on the ways in which we live, communicate, and interact with the real world. This paper portrays how English language is constructed and displayed by shipboard crews and shore-based personnel when communicating through radiotelephony. Based on internationally-recognized recommendations for implementation when ships communicate with each other or with shore-based stations as well as on examples of current practice contained in marine communication manuals, this paper explores the message patterns, the standardized conventions, and the general and discursive practices governing speech communications at sea. Firstly, marine communications are defined and the role of Maritime English in the shipping industry for ensuring a safe and efficient passage discussed. Then, the standardized language of the sea is explained. Next, a move-step model to the analysis of the stages making up communicative exchanges at sea is applied and the main general and discursive features that prevail in such exchanges described. Finally, two examples help to illustrate the model and features presented and discussed.
