Purpose The purpose of this paper is to determine the effects of environmental factors in open-plan offices with the same characteristics but with different workstation partition heights (1.10, 1.40 and 1.65 m) on perceptual evaluations of office employees. Design/methodology/approach In this research, the effects of environmental factors on employees’ perceptual evaluations in open-plan offices at the Gölbaşı Region of Ankara were measured with a detailed questionnaire. The research data were obtained from 81 employees who agreed to fill out the questionnaire and who use open-plan offices. Findings It was found that the office environments with 1.65 m workstation partition heights were more favorably assessed for each of the items of planning and of privacy that form the dependent variables compared to the office environments with 1.10 and 1.40 m partition heights. On the other hand, the office environments with the 1.10 and 1.40 m partition heights were more favorable for lighting items than the 1.65 m partition height office environments. In addition, young employees had a more positive tendency toward the perceptions of environmental factors, including different workstation partition heights in open-plan offices, compared to older employees. Research limitations/implications Results of this research provide a fundamental contribution for the impact of various partition heights that have substantial implications on the perceptions of open-plan office environments. At this point, as open-plan offices have important effects on the quality of employees’ work experiences, the influence of various partition heights on the performance of employees should be emphasized in future studies. The diversity of performance (reading comprehension, calculation, design, drawing, etc.) will be an important decision. Originality/value The significant contribution of this research is that it provides valid data and makes a valuable contribution to the body of knowledge in open-plan office design.

The British Government of India divided the Muslim majority province of Punjab into Eastern and Western Punjab. But the partition line was drawn in a manner that headworks remained in India and irrigated land in Pakistan. The partition of Punjab was not scheduled in the original plan of the division of India. Why was it partitioned? To answer this question, the study in the first instance tries to explore circumstances, reasons, and conspiracies which led to the partition of Punjab which led to the division of the canal irrigation system and secondly, the impact of partition on water resource management in the Indus River Basin. Descriptive, historical, and analytical methods of research have been used to draw a conclusion. The study highlights the mindset of Indian National Congress to cripple down the newly emerging state of Pakistan that became a root cause of the partition of Punjab. The paper also highlights why India stopped water flowing into Pakistan on 1st April 1948 and the analysis also covers details about the agreement of 4th May 1948 and its consequences for Pakistan.

Vertical housings have been developed to solve housing quality degradation due to rapid urbanization. These housings are often lack of privacy and comfort, since the lay-out mostly consists of one open plan space with limited area. This paper presents a lightweight and multi-purpose partition to improve the living quality in vertical housings. The lightweight characteristic is intended to minimize structural loads, while the multi-purpose property allows the partition to be transformed into some furniture for spatial efficiency. A literature review and material surveys were performed prior to material selection and the design process. Then, physical model experiments were carried out to simulate the installation process and the transformation process of the partition modules into some furniture. Result show that the partition’s weight is only 11-36.7% of the common partition wall, and when installed, the transformable property enables an adaptable space which can be adjusted to the occupants’ different conditions.

It is known that optimization of join queries based on average selectivities is sub-optimal in highly correlated databases. Relations are naturally divided into partitions , each partition having substantially different statistical characteristics in such databases. It is very compelling to discover such data partitions during query optimization and create multiple plans for a given query , one plan being optimal for a particular combination of data partitions. This scenario calls for the sharing of state among plans, so that common intermediate results are not recomputed. We study this problem in a setting with a routing-based query execution engine based on eddies. Eddies naturally encapsulate horizontal partitioning and maximal state sharing across multiple plan. The purpose of this paper is to present faster execution time over traditional optimization for high correlations, while maintaining the same performance for low correlations.

ABSTRACTThe 1937 Peel Commission proposal for the partition of British mandatory Palestine has generally been framed as the precursor to the United Nations partition plan of 1947. This article demonstrates the importance of tracing the roots of the 1937 Peel Commission plan back to conversations taking place in the Colonial Office and government of Palestine as early as 1929. A close analysis of dialogues over territorial division and of preliminary partition plans, particularly those drawn up by L. G. Archer Cust and D. G. Harris, leads to the conclusion that Britain's focus on the ideal of representative government played a primary role in the development of partition proposals. This article argues that inter-ethnic violence played a much smaller role in the development of partition proposals than has previously been thought. Instead, partition was proposed as a solution to the political implications of non-representative government in Palestine, a topic constantly in the spotlight thanks to the League of Nations.

Working in Architecture design studios environment requires various activities. Interaction, communication and meetings could affect the speech intelligibility and the speech privacy conditions. Students Areas with a more silent environment are needed with a minimized level of distraction from surrounding activities, while teamwork and discussion areas with a high level of interaction need a good speech intelligibility. One of the more important elements which can improve the open spaces acoustical conditions is the partitions between workstations.The main purpose of this work is to evaluate the acoustical performance of four partitions types in open plan offices; 1.10m two sides partition height, 1,50m front side partitions, 1,50m one side partitions and 1.50 two sides partitions. This Study was conducted in the College of Architecture, Imam Abdulrhman Bin Faisal University, KSA. Based on ISO 3382-3, Speech Transmission Index, STI in the nearest workstation, Distraction distance rD, privacy distance rP, A-weighted background noise level L,A,B and A-weighted SPL of speech at 4 metres L,A,S,4m have been measured. It was found that the best results can be obtained by 1.50m front side and 1.50m two sides partitions.

This paper presents a numerical simulation of the steel grade transition from the ladle nozzle to the solidification end of the bloom. The simulation is based on models encompassing fluid flow, solidification, heat transfer, an electromagnetic field, and solute transport. To validate the accuracy of the steel grade transition model, transition blooms of high-carbon steel are sampled. Subsequently, the model is applied to investigating the steel grade transition between medium-carbon steel and low-carbon steel. The findings indicate that the regions exhibiting significant differences between their molten steel flow velocity and bloom casting speed in the strand model are primarily concentrated within 1 m below the meniscus. Additionally, the mushy zone in the strand model possesses a substantial volume. Solute elements continuously permeate the liquid phase from the solid phase through the mushy zone. Consequently, the distribution of solute elements in the transition bloom is primarily influenced by the molten steel flow in the tundish and macro-segregation in the casting process. The segregation degree of each solute element varies among grades with different carbon contents. In the austenite phase, the segregation degree of each element follows the order C > Si > Mo > Mn > Cr > Ni, while in the ferrite phase, the segregation degree is ordered as C > Si = Mn. Considering macro-segregation, the transition bloom partition model proves to be more stringent than the original partition method. This results in longer transition blooms when a significant difference exists between the new and old grades. For example, in Scheme 1, the original plan transition bloom length is 8.88 m, whereas the new plan transition bloom length is 10.88 m. Similarly, in Scheme 2, the original plan transition bloom length is 34.64 m, and the new plan transition bloom length is 35.16 m. Conversely, shorter partition intervals occur when there is an overlap in the composition of the new and old grades. In Scheme 3, the original plan partition interval for the new and old grades is 4.08 m, while the new plan partition interval is reduced to 0.94 m.

In recent years, the volume of spatial data has rapidly grown, so it is crucial to process them in an efficient manner. The level of parallel processing in big data platforms such as Hadoop and Spark is determined by partitioning the dataset. A common approach is to split the data into chunks based on the number of bytes. While this approach works well for text-based batch processing, in many cases, it is preferable to take advantage of the structured information contained in the dataset (e.g., spatial coordinates) to plan data partitioning. In view of the huge amount of data and the impossibility of quickly establishing partitions, this paper designs a method for approximate partition boundary solving, which divides the data space into multiple non-overlapping symmetric bins and samples each bin, making the probability density of the sampling set bounded by the deviation of the probability density of the original data. The sampling set is read into the memory at one time for calculation, and the established partition boundary satisfies the partition threshold-setting. Only a few boundary adjustment operations are required, which greatly shortens the partition time. In this paper, the method proposed in the paper is tested on the synthetic dataset, the bus trajectory dataset, and six common spatial partitioning methods (Grid, Z-curve, H-curve, STR, Kd-tree, and R*-Grove) are selected for comparison. The results show that the symmetric bin sampling method can describe the spatial data distribution well and can be directly used for partition boundary division.

Cette étude exploratoire porte sur l’apprentissage mnémonique de partitions de piano à l’aide de repères microstructuraux. Ce type de repères s’acquiert en prenant conscience de différentes micro-informations, tant sur le plan de la notation musicale que de sa réalisation instrumentale. Ils permettent d’identifier les singularités de la partition et de son jeu instrumental afin de mieux s’en souvenir. Deux objectifs sont poursuivis : 1. répertorier les divers types de microstructures utilisés par les pianistes pour mémoriser une partition ; 2. catégoriser les microstructures. Ensuite, ces repères font l’objet d’analyses de fréquence afin d’illustrer les préférences d’utilisation des pianistes ayant participé à l’étude. Les résultats obtenus ont permis d’observer que les pianistes ont utilisé sept types de repères microstructuraux pour mémoriser leur répertoire. Trois sont liés à la représentation de la notation musicale; deux sont responsables de la représentation de la réalisation instrumentale; puis les deux derniers favorisent la prise de conscience d’associations lors du travail mnémonique.

Storage tanks with partition plates are widely used in the petrochemical industry. However, relevant standards do not propose corresponding design criteria and methods for this type of structure, and theoretical design formulas cannot be applied to ensure the reliability of its structure. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze and design the storage tank with a partition plate by using finite elements. This paper studies the problem of buckling depression and cracks in the welded parts of the S-shaped tank with a partition plate during its operation. We used the finite element software ANSYS to analyze the overall strength and stability of the structure and obtain the larger stress area. Based on this, a safe and economical optimization plan is proposed: under the condition of strictly controlling the liquid level difference on both sides of the partition, the tank structure is optimized by adding stiffeners and tie rods. The study revealed that the measure effectively improves the overall rigidity of the tank body and reduces the maximum stress of the structure and enhances the safety performance of storage tank. Additionally, it provides a reference for the structural strength design of storage tanks with partition plates.

ABSTRACT This article applies qualitative dynamic content analysis to archival sources to demonstrate that religious identity was the primary motivation for Orthodox Greek Palestinians to join the Communist Party in 1948. Abandoned by the local Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, this sect of Palestinians hoped to gain the patronage of the Russian Orthodox Church. This was also their motive for supporting the plan of the United Nations to divide Mandatory Palestine into Arab and Jewish states, in contradiction of the national consensus at the time. Marxist theory, depicted as cosmopolitan, multinational, and multisectoral, helped this group camouflage its sectoral organization within the party’s higher echelons. The article stresses the importance of examining time and place when investigating historical decisions of political groups, such as those of the Palestinian communists in Israel, that have a significant impact on the process of shaping collective identity.

During the last years, the demand for indoor models has increased for various purposes. As a provisional step to proceed towards higher dimensional indoor models, powerful and flexible floor plans can be utilised. Therefore, several methods have been proposed that provide automatically generated floor plans from laser point clouds. The prevailing methodology seeks to attain semantic enhancement of a model (e.g. the identification and labelling of its components) built upon already reconstructed (a priori) geometry. In contrast, this paper demonstrates preliminary research on the possibility to directly incorporate semantic knowledge, which is itself derived from the raw data during the extraction, into the geometric modelling process. In this regard, we propose a new method to automatically extract floor plans from raw point clouds. It is based on a hierarchical space partitioning of the data, integrated with primitive selection actuated by object detection. First, planar primitives corresponding to vertical architectural structures are extracted using M-estimator SAmple and Consensus (MSAC). The set of the resulting line segments are refined by a selection process through a novel door detection algorithm, considering optimization of prior information and fitness to the data. The selected lines are used as hyperlines to partition the space into enclosed areas. Finally, a floor plan is extracted from these partitions by Minimum Description Length (MDL) hypothesis ranking. The algorithm is applied on a real mobile laser scanner dataset and the results are evaluated both in terms of door detection and consecutive floor plan extraction.

The Partition of India in 1947 has often been studied through the lenses of territoriality, communal identity, and the high nationalist politics of the attainment of the two nation-states of India and Pakistan. However, the history of nation-making is inextricably linked with the account of Dalit communities in divided Bengal, their aspirations and arrival in West Bengal, and their subsequent exile outside the newly formed state to a government-chosen rehabilitation site called Dandakaranya in central India. From the 1950s, the Dalit population of East Pakistan began migrating to West Bengal in India following their leader Jogendra Nath Mandal who had migrated earlier. Subsequently, West Bengal saw a steady influx of agriculturalist Dalit refugees whose rehabilitation entailed a different understanding of land resettlement. Conceived in 1956, the Dandakaranya Project was an ambitious one-time plan to rehabilitate thousands of East Bengali Namasudra refugees outside the state. Some writings on Dandakaranya, such as those by Saibal Kumar Gupta, former chairman of the Dandakaranya Development Authority, offer us a profound insight into the plight of Dalit refugees during post-Partition times. This article explores two texts by Gupta: his memoir, Kichu Smriti, Kichu Katha, and a collection of essays compiled in a book, Dandakaranya: A Survey of Rehabilitation. Drawing on official data, government reports, assessments of the refugee settlers, and extensive personal interaction, Gupta evaluates the demographic and humanitarian consequences of the Partition for the Dalit refugees. These texts represent an important literary archive that unearths a hidden chapter in the Indian Partition’s historiography and lays bare the trajectory of Scheduled Caste history understood through the project of rehabilitation and resettlement in independent India.

The landscape is considered a strategic asset by the Tuscan regional government, also for its economic role, meaning that a specific Landscape Plan has been developed, dividing the region into 20 Landscape Units and representing the main planning instrument at the regional level. Following the aims of the Landscape Plan and the guidelines of the European Landscape Convention, it is necessary to develop an adequate assessment of the landscape, evaluating the main typologies and their characteristics. The aim of this research is to carry out an assessment of the landscape diversity in Tuscany based on 20 study areas, analyzing land uses and landscape mosaic structures through the application of landscape metrics: number of land uses, mean patch size (MPS), Hill’s diversity number, edge density (ED), patch density (PD), land use diversity (LUD). The results highlight a correlation between the landscape typologies (forest, agricultural, mixed, periurban) and the complexity of the landscape structure, especially in relation to MPS and PD, while the combination of PD and LUD calculated on the basis of a hexagonal grid allows obtaining landscape complexity maps. Despite the phenomena of reforestation and urban sprawl of recent decades, Tuscany still preserves different landscape typologies characterized by a good level of complexity. This is particularly evident in mixed landscapes, while agricultural landscapes have a larger variability because of different historical land organization forms. The methodology applied in this study provided a large amount of data about land uses and the landscape mosaic structure and complexity and proved to be effective in assessing the landscape structure and in creating a database that can represent a baseline for future monitoring.

Results from two field studies are reported: a quasi-experiment of changing from 60—64 inch to 36—42 inch partition heights at a multi-national corporation, and a comparison of two office areas at a global manufacturer. In the first study, both control and experimental participants endured moving, but only the experimental group experienced any change in partition height. A quantitative, subjective survey provided work environment ratings before, immediately after, and six months after the change. The results show that in general, this was a negative change for users, although some non-significant trends suggested that-defined at the group level-one or two outcomes may have been positive. Using a much more extensive instrument, the second study found several differences in occupant ratings of workplace design as a function of differences in the physical environments. A framework is outlined for interpreting these results in terms of individual (i.e., privacy) and group (i.e., communication) needs.

This paper argues that current Western-backed approaches to conflict resolution in Kosovo have failed to alter Serbia's policy toward the region and have contributed to the exacerbation of political tensions between Belgrade and Brussels, while deepening ethnic cleavages between Serb and Albanian communities. While there is no possibility of Kosovo returning to Serbia's control, there is an equal unlikelihood that Serbian-populated regions of Kosovo, especially the north, will submit to Pristina's authority. Most importantly, there is little hope that Kosovo can gain full international recognition and membership in international organizations without a compromise settlement with Serbia. While territorial partition has long been a suggested option, I conclude that the best possible solution for Kosovo, given the positions of all parties involved, is a process of significant decentralization beyond the internationally supported measures in the Ahtisaari Plan. A model of consociational power sharing is one in which Serbian and Albanian municipalities are granted high levels of autonomy similar to arrangements made for Bosnia. While this solution may not be ideal and further weakens central authority, I argue that consociationalism reduces the problems of ethnic conflict, encourages local self-government, and preserves the overall territorial integrity of Kosovo.

Varèse pose les bases d’un nouveau paradigme en décrivant les transformations de la musique au contact des images et en inscrivant les sons dans le dispositif « d’enregistrement/montage/diffusion cinématographique ». Les notions de son organisé et de partition sonore sont pour lui les outils qui permettent de penser et de travailler la musicalité filmique. À partir des années 60, Fano s’inspire des idées de Varèse et les éprouve en composant plusieurs partitions sonores (notamment pour les films d’Alain Robbe-Grillet). En intégrant tous les sons (parole, bruit, musique) dans sa démarche musicale, le compositeur produit une écoute et une conscience singulière de la musique au cinéma : les sons (et les images) se divisent en formants, et le compositeur met en relation ces éléments afin de produire des affects musicaux et signifiants. Les notions de continuum sonore, d’ordre musical et de formant dynamisent et enrichissent alors le champ compositionnel imaginé par Varèse. En définitive, la réflexion sur le son organisé au cinéma a pour fondement le processus de construction réciproque du dispositif sonore, de la pensée compositionnelle cinématographique et des formes esthétiques. Le compositeur travaille à la surface d’un plan continu, la partition sonore, dont il doit façonner les matériaux et organiser les interactions. At present, with the explosive growth of data scale, subgraph matching for massive graph data is difficult to satisfy with efficiency. Meanwhile, the graph index used in existing subgraph matching algorithm is difficult to update and maintain when facing dynamic graphs. We propose a distributed subgraph matching algorithm based on Partition Replica (noted as PR-Match) to process the partition and storage of large-scale data graphs. The PR-Match algorithm first splits the query graph into sub-queries, then assigns the sub-query to each node for sub-graph matching, and finally merges the matching results. In the PR-Match algorithm, we propose a heuristic rule based on prediction cost to select the optimal merging plan, which greatly reduces the cost of merging. In order to accelerate the matching speed of the sub-query graph, a vertex code based on the vertex neighbor label signature is proposed, which greatly reduces the search space for the subquery. As the vertex code is based on the increment, the problem that the feature-based graph index is difficult to maintain in the face of the dynamic graph is solved. An abundance of experiments on real and synthetic datasets demonstrate the high efficiency and strong scalability of the PR-Match algorithm when handling large-scale data graphs.

This paper reexamines the Palestinian struggle for self-determination and the extent to which a viable two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was ever truly possible. Such a reexamination seems all the more pertinent today on the hundredth anniversary of the Balfour Declaration. It is also seventy years since the UN partition plan to divide historic Palestine and fifty years since UN Security Council Resolution 242, which has been the basis for every peace agreement between Israel and its neighbors but makes no mention of or reference to the Palestinian people. The paper argues that the history of the past fifty years reinforces the claim that a State is central to any attempt to fight Palestinian erasure and ensure “the right to have rights,” as Hannah Arendt put it, but it argues that such an entity needs to be elevated above the nation, rather than made subservient to it if it is to protect the rights of Palestinians and all those living on the land of Palestine.

A second season of new excavations was undertaken at Palaikastro in 1987 in the area of Building 1, partially revealed last year, and in the adjacent fields to the south. Two new structures were denned, Buildings 3 and 4, and most of the plan of Building 1 traced. Features suggesting that Building 1 was public and played a role in the religious life of the town in LM I are the high quality of its construction, a possible grandstand with stone horns of consecration, a large well-built drain at the entrance, its unique orientation, and the discovery of the torso and arms of a male chryselephantine statuette fallen from an upper storey into an open area near the building. The other buildings are not yet well-defined. Building 3 was constructed in LM I and re-occupied in LM III, but no inner partition walls have been found. An area with pier-and-door partitions and mudbrick walls was built against the southwest wall of the building and destroyed in LM IB. Building 4 seems to belong to the LM III period, although we have not yet investigated below the floors of the re-occupation period. Destruction deposits of the LM IIIA2/B period suggest an earthquake.

Software Defined Networking (SDN) has emerged as a promising solution to revolutionize network deployment, operations and economic growth. This paradigm aims to address management and configuration complexities in legacy networks so as to reduce the total cost associated with deploying and running telecommunication infrastructures. At the heart of SDN is a controller which oversees orchestration of resources. An important problem that must be addressed during the initial design of an SDN-based network deployment is to find the optimal number of controllers and their locations, to achieve desired operational efficiency. This problem constitutes competing objectives such as latency, load balancing, and reliability. We apply Silhouette Analysis, Gap Statistics and the Partition Around Medoids (PAM) algorithms and, unlike previous work, we add a new method for solving the controller placement problem using an emulation orchestration platform. Our approach aims to optimize controller-to-node latency, alleviate control-plane signalling overhead and ensure control-plane resiliency. Our results for South African national research network (SANReN) reveal that deploying two controllers yields the lowest latency, reduces control-plane signalling overhead and guarantees control-plane resiliency. Our approach can be used by network operators as a guideline to start integrating SDN or plan a new SDN deployment, by helping them make quick automatic decisions regarding optimal controller placement.

Abstract With the proliferation of the penetration rate of renewable energy sources (RESs), more flexibility should be released to cope with the demand caused by the uncertainty of RESs output. Thus, it is paramount to divide different stages of the RESs penetration rate from the perspective of dispatching to represent the flexibility supply-demand relationship. Based on these considerations, this paper presents a novel approach to divide the level of RESs grid-connected with the aim to counteract the volatility and alleviate its effect of it. Herein, we define two specific stages with heterogeneous dispatching strategy, the first stage aiming at minimizing RESs power limit while the second stage takes the secure operation of the power grid as the optimal target by adjusting the optimization objectives of intraday rolling and real-time dispatching plan. Simulation results demonstrate the feasibility of the partition method.

Urban landscape design is of great significance to the development of the city. To solve the problem of manual acquisition characteristics of urban landscape design systems and low target detection accuracy, a new idea based on neural network and multi-objective testing technology construction urban landscape design system is proposed. By analyzing key technologies, the database establishment proposes to build a city landscape design system. Establish a city landscape design 3D model library using neural network and multi-objective testing technology. The system enables terrain measurements, GIS, visualization, massive data processing, virtual reality technology, etc., so that users can more and more effectively feel the rationality of space design and the feasibility of planning program. Through the experimental test, the following conclusions were obtained. First, the accuracy of multi-objective detection technology is maintained at around 88%. Second, the system landscape generation module generates fast, and the calculation time is between 0.57 and 46 s. Third, through analysis of the evaluation results of ecological suitability, the A-city landscape ecological function partition is divided into the plan for the plan to provide reliable data protection. The fourth is based on satisfaction evaluation indicators, which is conducive to the choice of the optimal plan of urban landscape design, thereby promoting the sustainable development of the city.

Charging schemes utilizing mobile wireless chargers can be applied to prolong the lifespan of a wireless sensor network. In considering charging schemes with mobile chargers, most current studies focus on charging each sensor from a single position, then optimizing the moving paths of the chargers. However, in reality, a wireless charger may charge the same sensor from several positions in its path. In this paper we consider this fact and seek to minimize both the number of charging locations and the total required charging time. Two charging plans are developed. The first plan considers the charging time required by each sensor and greedily selects the charging service positions. The second one is a two-phase plan, where the number of charging positions is first minimized, then minimum charging times are assigned to every position according to the charging requirements of the nearby sensors. This paper also corrects a problem neglected by some studies in minimizing the number of charging service positions and further provides a corresponding solution. Empirical studies show that compared with other minimal clique partition (MCP)-based methods, the proposed charging plan may save up to 60% in terms of both the number of charging positions and the total required charging time.

Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7th, 2023, is not the first of its type. The Israeli-Palestine tension can be traced back to 1947 following the UN Partition Plan that divided the British Mandate of Palestine into Jewish and Arab Nations. Following Britain’s withdrawal from the Peninsula, the Jewish leaders declared the State of Israel, sparking the first Arab-Israeli conflict and this tension has worsened over the years. We use Thomas Hobbes's Social Contract to explain the tension between both parties. According to Hobbes, man lives in a State of Nature which is characterized by war and the continuous fear of death. This fear of death is the reason why man enters into a contract (Social Contract). There have been diverse schools of thought as to the origin of the Israeli-Palestine tension. Some believe it is the 1947 UN Partition Plan, others believe it is the June 1967 war, while others believe it is religion. Regardless of the original cause, it is evident that both parties have retained severe casualties over the years. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to review the economic, social, and international relations consequences of the 2023 Israel-Hamas war. The current war has had several social consequences: refugee migrations, lack of basic survival necessities, withdrawal of medical aid groups, starving refugees, desolated cities, and allegations of rape and sexual torture. Economically, the war has led to the loss of income from economic activities, an increase in oil prices, reignited inflation, high-interest rates, increased government expenditures, and exchange rates. It has also impacted international relations among nations due to a split in support between Israel and Palestine. Nevertheless, there is an allowance for further study because this paper is limited only to the social, economic, and international relations impact of the war.

The Analysis of Library Building Plan of Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Parepare by using A Modication of Flat Slab Method. The research aimed to know the dimensions of main structure, create construction structure using at slab based on ETABS Program that was analyzed according to SNI 2847:2013. Counting the reinforcement needed by main structure and create a nal design based on the modication result of Library Building as well as analyze the mass participation in earthquake areas. The analysis result showed that the thickness of the whole flat floor was 22 cm and drop panel was 120 cm x 120 cm with 12 cm thick, column dimension K1 for Floor 1 with 70/70, K1 floor 2-4 with 60/60, K1 floor 5 with 50/50, column 2 floor 1-5 with 50/35 and K3 floor 1-5 with 30 x 30, the thickness of shear wall was 30 cm. The reinforcement of flat slab produced reinforcement D16 mm, main column reinforcement K1 22D22, column K2 9D22, column K8D12. Final Plan of library building modification based on technical drawing form consisted of the Picture of structure plan, pieces, and detail of the reinforcement. In earthquake area with Category C, it was showed by mass partition control on mode 4 and 5 had achieved 93% and 94% and was able to restrain the load of earthquake plan.

Electronic sound masking systems raise the ambient sound level in offices to a controlled minimum sound level in order to increase speech privacy and reduce distractions. Sound masking systems are calibrated to provide the most uniform sound field achievable, as a spatially non-uniform masking sound field could result in occupant perception and uneven speech privacy conditions. Tolerances for acceptable spatial uniformity vary between specifiers, and may be based on different evaluation methods using only a few discrete measurement points to represent an entire office space. However, the actual uniformity of a masking sound field across an office, and the parameters influencing it, has not been widely investigated. Thus, this study aims to investigate the masking sound uniformity in a typical open-plan office space using fine-grid measurements conforming to measurement method of ASTM E1573-18. Percentages of measured locations where the sound pressure levels were within specified tolerances (with increments of 0.5 dB) were calculated using the measured 1/3 octave band levels. The research also utilized geometric acoustical simulations to investigate how physical office parameters (number of loudspeakers, partition heights, ceiling absorption, and diffusion characteristics) affect the sound field uniformity of the sound masking system.

Abstract. Indoor localization has attracted the attention of researchers for wide applications in areas like construction, facility management, industries, logistics, and health. The Received Signal Strength (RSS) based fingerprinting method is widely adopted because it has a lower cost over other methods. RSS is a measurement of the power present in the received radio signal. While this fingerprinting method is very popular, there is a significant amount of effort required for collecting fingerprints for indoor space. In this paper, we propose an RSS fingerprinting method using Augmented Reality (AR) that does not rely on an external sensor resulting in ease of use and maintenance. This method uses spatial mapping techniques to help align the floor plan of existing buildings; then, after the alignment, we map local device coordinates to global coordinates. After this process, we partition the space in equally distanced reference points for RSS fingerprint collection. We developed an application for Microsoft HoloLens to align the floor plan and collect fingerprints on reference points. Then we tested collected fingerprints with existing RSS based indoor localization methods for its accuracy and performance.

In order to effectively apply BranchyNet, a DNN with multiple early-exit branches, in edge intelligent applications, one way is to divide and distribute the inference task of a BranchyNet into a group of robots, drones, vehicles, and other intelligent edge devices. Unlike most existing works trying to select a particular branch to partition and deploy, this paper proposes a genetic algorithm (GA)-based online partitioning approach that splits the whole BranchyNet with all its branches. For this purpose, it establishes a new calculation approach based on the weighted average for estimating total execution time of a given BranchyNet and a two-layer chromosome GA by distinguishing partitioning and deployment during the evolution in GA. The experiment results show that the proposed algorithm can not only result in shorter execution time and lower device-average energy cost but also needs less time to obtain an optimal deployment plan. Such short running time enables the proposed algorithm to generate an optimal deployment plan online, which dynamically meets the actual requirements in deploying an intelligent application in the edge.

Abstract Existing forest inventory techniques stratify a territory into forest types, determine a global sample size for the entire territory, and then partition this sample size by forest type. Sampling units are then located within the appropriate stratum in a fashion that will allow the field work to be conducted "efficiently." This final step inevitably leads to adjustments in the number of units per stratum and also does not account for the spatial distribution of a given stratum over an area. This paper demonstrates how, with the aid of a geographic information system, one can obtain a sample that is "adequately distributed" spatially in addition to being statistically representative. Planning the supporting structures of a building is a problem of an extremely wide choice. At the same time, the estimation of one option by the finite element method takes too much time to apply automated and decision support tools. Therefore, it is proposed to identify a quickly calculated estimation of the supports plan which would allow comparing two support plans correctly in terms of potential deformations. To achieve this, the existing heuristic approaches modeling the functional relationship between the plan of supports and the resulting deformations were analyzed. In this paper spans are taken as the basis for the estimation. Further, the problem of spans determining is formulated which is reduced to the problem of the geometric coverage of multicoherent orthogonal polygon. The objective function is the maximization of the correlation between the detected estimate and the actual calculated values of deformations. To determine the spans on the floor area, a new algorithm based on the sweep line algorithm is proposed which consists of three steps: partitioning the floor area, determining the proximity of partitioned sections and assembling sections into spans. In order to determine the main estimate for a span-support topology, a single span estimation is derived based on three parameters: span area, aspect ratio and topology of supports that bound the span. Since the last parameter is qualitative, an additional analysis of quantitative parameters that can correctly describe it was carried out. The analysis criterion was the correlation with the calculated deformations in the span. The parameter of the maximum perimeter distance between the supports was recognized as the best parameter. The best function for estimating the spans was selected. In addition, various approaches to assembling spans from partition sections at the last step of the algorithm were analyzed.

In this paper, we consider complete homogeneous symmetric functions and provide a new formula for the number of plane partitions of n. This formula expresses the number of plane partitions of n in terms of binomial coefficients as a sum over all the partitions of n, considering the multiplicity of the parts greater than one. We obtain similar results for the number of strict plane partition of n and the number of symmetric plane partitions of n.

The Prussians are attacking the Wawel castle – plans of Cracow defence in the spring of 1793 At the beginning of 1793, the Prussian army marched onto the territory of the western provinces of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, executing the plan of the Second Partition of Poland signed in Saint Petersburg. Due to the lack of information concerning the maximum range of the annexation in the early spring, the Confederate authorities started to fear that Cracow might be taken too – by Prussia or by Austria. Thus, general Józef Wodzicki was tasked with securing the city. However, he had to face the fact that there was no possibility of planning his actions around the fortifications and that he had only modest forces at his disposal.

RésuméCet article vise à restituer la doctrine du « signe du manifeste au caché » d'Abū Hāšim al-Ğubbāʾī (888-933). Il montre qu'Abū Hāšim a tendu à interpréter ce signe comme une inférence, dont il a reconnu deux types principaux : le type-1 (la « communauté de preuve », al-ištirāk fī al-dalāla) procède par déduction analytique de concepts en neutralisant les conditions de réalisation de ces derniers, c'est-à-dire leur soubassement ontologique. C'est, typiquement, la procédure la plus directement consonante avec l'ontologie modale d'Abū Hāšim. Le type-2 (la « communauté de cause », al-ištirāk fī al-ʿilla) exhibe un même rapport de causalité au plan du connu et au plan de l'inconnu et considère que la causalité au plan du connu est elle-même la cause de la causalité au plan de l'inconnu. Cette partition parfaitement inédite dans la philosophie et le kalām est en revanche préfigurée dans la doctrine de la preuve exposée par al-Ḫwārizmī dans son Algèbre. Al-Ḫwārizmī distingue en effet entre la preuve « par la cause » (bi-al-ʿilla), qui consiste à transférer une certaine déduction géométrique au plan de l'algèbre et la preuve « par l'expression » (bi-al-lafẓ) qui opère directement sur les expressions algébriques, qu'elle réduit analytiquement. En se fondant sur un texte d'Abū Hāšim consacré à la connaissance humaine qui paraît se référer à l’œuvre d'al-Ḫwārizmī, l'article suggère pour finir que le parallèle conceptuel étroit entre la doctrine de la preuve d'al-Ḫwārizmī et la doctrine du signe d'Abū Hāšim pourrait ne pas être une simple coïncidence. Deux appendices ont été ajoutés. Le premier traite de la lecture par al-Fārābī de la théorie de l'inférence d'Abū Hāšim. Le second, en s'appuyant sur toutes les données disponibles, établit pour la première fois les dates correctes et précises de la vie d'Abū Hāšim.
