Анотація:
The aim of the study is to determine the features of expressing the category of simultaneity by present tense forms in English and Russian languages. The article identifies the verb forms in both languages that participate in expressing simultaneity, considers different types of simultaneity, and presents examples of their use. The scientific novelty of the study consists in identifying verbal means of expressing temporality on the example of the category of simultaneity. Isomorphism is manifested in the fact that both languages use the conjunction “when”, which explicitly expresses the meaning of simultaneity in polypredicative complexes. Allomorphism is manifested in the fact that the potential for expressing simultaneity by present tense forms is significantly higher in Russian than in English. The coincidence of the tense forms of the predicates leads to the expression of complete, unlimited simultaneity, and the use of different tense forms – to the implementation of partial simultaneity. The results obtained showed that the present tense in Russian and English can express both limited and unlimited simultaneity.

The subject matter of this paper is the modification of temporal relation in the complex sentence with the temporal clause. As part of his special theory of relativity, Einstein introduced two definitions of the word “simultaneity”—the coordinated-clocks definition in his famous 1905 paper and the mid-point definition in his 1916 book. Einstein never discussed the relation between these two definitions. Neither has anyone else, to my knowledge. I show that these definitions are not equivalent because they have different scopes of applicability, but that they are equivalent wherever both apply. My proof of this partial equivalence is a corollary of my proof that both of Einstein’s definitions clash with the natural ticking of monochromatic light, which I call an electromagnetic wave clock. Einstein disparaged the idea of absolute simultaneity, but the reasons he gave were not good ones. He suggested that the idea originated in a confusion between happening simultaneously and being seen simultaneously. This thesis is dubious. It is also irrelevant, because an idea that originates in a confusion need not be a confused idea. He suggested that there could be no experimental test for absolute simultaneity. I refute this suggestion by describing an experimental test for absolute simultaneity, which I call the melt-mark test. The empirical credentials of Einstein’s definitions are not superior to those of absolute simultaneity. Einstein writes as if he can banish the idea of absolute “simultaneity” by merely giving the word “simultaneity” a new meaning. But many words have multiple meanings; Einstein merely made simultaneity such a word. The meanings of “simultaneity” that there is reason to disparage are Einstein’s definitions, because they clash with the electromagnetic wave clock. None of these points is properly appreciated by today’s physics community, where Einstein’s assertions about simultaneity continue to enjoy broad acclaim. Physical theories that employ the idea of absolute simultaneity are often wrongly rejected because they do.

Abstract The conventionality of simultaneity thesis as established by Reichenbach and Grünbaum is related to the partial freedom in the definition of simultaneity in an inertial reference frame. An apparently altogether different issue is that of the conventionality of spatial geometry, or more generally the conventionality of chronogeometry when taking also into account the conventionality of the uniformity of time. Here we will consider Einstein’s version of the conventionality of (chrono)geometry, according to which we might adopt a different spatial geometry and a particular definition of equality of successive time intervals. The choice of a particular chronogeometry would not imply any change in a theory, since its “physical part” can be changed in a way that, regarding experimental results, the theory is the same. Here, we will make the case that the conventionality of simultaneity is closely related to Einstein’s conventionality of chronogeometry, as another conventional element leading to it.

This study introduces three cooking process improvements for a multiproduct traditional Japanese cuisine restaurant to improve labor productivity and to assess relations between offered process changes and service product characteristics. Restaurant productivity is the lowest among service industries because restaurants are labor-intensive. Therefore, the industry is affected by service product characteristics. Combining line and cell cooking systems, batch cooking using partial freezers, and combining built-to-order and built-to-plan cooking are introduced into actual multiproduct traditional Japanese cuisine restaurants to change cooking operations and improve labor productivity. Results show that all cooking process changes reduce work hours. The correlation coefficient between work hour and sales revenue improved by line and cell cooking, but it is degraded by batch cooking and built-to-order and built-to-plan cooking. Line and cell cooking enhance simultaneity and reduce the influence of perishability because the system adopts hourly work hours to fluctuation of hourly sales by changing cooking systems (line/cell). However, the system does not resolve heterogeneity and intangibility difficulties because the system is intended to resolve quantitative difficulties of cooking operation systems. Batch cooking systems reduce the influence of simultaneity and perishability of service products because the method reduces cooking frequency using partial freezers. Furthermore, the system improves heterogeneity because the restaurant can provide head-chef-made dishes even if the chef is not working at the restaurant. However, the system does not resolve difficulties of intangibility because the system is not designed to improve customers’ subjective evaluation for service. Built-to-order and built-to-plan cooking reduce the respective influences of simultaneity, perishability, and heterogeneity of service products to some degree because built to plan teams also practice batch cooking using partial freezers. However, the system does not resolve the difficulty of intangibility because the system is not intended to improve customers’ subjective evaluation for service.

Natural plant fibers possess a lot of advantages in chemical modification, such as easy process, extensive intensity range, better selectivity, good resistance to water, biodegradability and photo-degradability, that makes the etherification and esterification wood has good development prospect. In this paper, softwood fibers were used as raw material and epoxy chloropropane as modifier. The influences of epoxy chloropropane dosage, reaction time and temperature, and the dosage of NaOH on the modification were analyzed. Simultaneity, an FTIR study was performed to show the partial substitution of hydroxyl groups by the epoxy group. And surface morphology of fibers modified was characterized by scanning electron microscope.

Анотація:
The article presents the construction of a functional-semantic field of compound conjunctive constructions with the meaning of simultaneous actions. Criteria for determining the central and peripheral components of the field are developed. The understanding of the temporal means of communication of complex constructions as a functional element, which is a causator of temporal relations and a formal indicator of the relationship between predicative units, is proposed. On the basis, the concept of a functive as a functional analog of a conjunction is introduced. Within each component of the constructed field, the means of expressing the total and partial simultaneity of actions are analysed.

We have noted sporadic instances of strong isolated reflections of medium frequency (MF) radar waves from the mesosphere from as low as 50 km altitude and have devised a set of criteria for isolating these apparently anomalous echoes from those normally occurring from progressive partial reflections in the D-region. The object of this study is therefore to map the occurrences of such echoes facilitating comparisons with other observations. For example, the similarity and simultaneity of the echo structure for the 20 January 2005 with VHF radar results presented by Lübken et al. (2006) are particularly striking. In presenting a number of such echo events since 2001 selected from the MF radar dataset (which spans 1997 to present), we find that virtually all echo occurrences coincide with enhanced solar proton fluxes suggesting that substantial ionisation of the mesosphere is a necessary condition. Strong partial reflections of the radio wave in the lower mesosphere combined with seasonally varying total absorption higher up, thus giving false impressions of lower mesospheric layers preferentially in winter, constitute a scenario consistent with our observations.

The paper presents structural and functional-semantic classifications of Koryak polypredicative constructions with the clause linkage marker tite ‘when’. These are syntactic units prototypically comprising two clauses linked by the word tite and encoding the relation between the events expressed by these predicative units. Given the endangered status of the Koryak language, it seems imperative to document its grammar. Furthermore, the Koryak syntax is particularly intriguing from a typological perspective due to its polysynthetic nature and extensive use of non-finite verb forms with nominal case affixes directly attached to the verb stem. This study employed the methodology developed by the scholars of the Institute of Philology of the SB RAS. The classifications were developed by analyzing the constructions concerned in the texts of the three native speakers. The three main parameters of the analysis were the forms used as predicates of clauses, the morphological nature of the clause linkage markers, and the semantic relation between the events. In terms of the morphology of clause linkage markers, the constructions can be categorized into proper analytic and analyticsynthetic types, while the forms of the predicates determine whether they are bi-finite, monofinite, or bi-nonfinite. The non-finite verb form system exclusively employs negative, locative, dative converbs, and converbs of simultaneity. When considering its functional aspects, the author regards tite as a versatile marker of clause linkage, encompassing temporal-conditional and complement constructions. Posteriority, partial simultaneity, and reality condition are among the most prevalent semantic types. Ultimately, this study emphasizes the correlations between structure and meaning.

De nombreuses études ont observé l’importance et l’effet de la langue maternelle dans les cours d’une langue étrangère mais celle-ci n’a pas été pleinement valorisée dans l’enseignement. Dans un cadre didactique expérimental, nous avons examiné chez des arabophones apprenants du FLE l’utilisation de la médiation par la langue arabe. Cette étude explore l’acquisition de l’imparfait sur le plan fonctionnel, qui constitue toujours un enjeu pour l’enseignement/apprentissage. Cette étude s’est penchée notamment sur l’assimilation des relations de simultanéité entre procès que l’imparfait permet de construire en contexte : la simultanéité totale, la simultanéité partielle et l’interruption. À travers un dispositif de constructions des connaissances associé à une approche médiative (et sans médiation pour le groupe contrôle) ainsi que des instruments de mesure initiaux et finaux, nous observons que la référence à la L1 arabe peut freiner l’appropriation de l’imparfait en induisant de la confusion et en provoquant un suremploi de l’IMP avec la simultanéité partielle et l’interruption. La principale difficulté réside dans les contextes perfectifs typiques du passé composé avec les verbes d’achèvement ainsi que dans les contextes imperfectifs atypiques de l’imparfait avec les verbes d’accomplissement. Le groupe expérimental a notablement moins bien réussi dans ces deux configurations, surtout lorsqu’elles se trouvaient dans un seul et même énoncé. Nous concluons ainsi que le transfert positif n’a été que très partiellement efficace, probablement du fait qu’il n’a pas pu être automatisé chez le groupe expérimental
Many studies have observed the importance and the effect of the mother tongue in foreign language classes, but it has not been fully valued in teaching. In an experimental didactic framework, we examined the use of mediation through the Arabic language among Arabic-speaking learners of French as a foreign language. This study focuses on the acquisition of the imperfect on the functional level, which is always a challenge for teaching/learning. This study focused in particular on the assimilation of the relations of simultaneity between processes that the imperfect may build in context: total simultaneity, partial simultaneity and interruption. Through a knowledge construction device associated with a mediative approach (and without mediation for the control group) as well as initial and final measurement instruments, we observe that the reference to the Arabic L1 can slow down the appropriation of the imperfect, by inducing confusion and causing overuse of the IMP with partial simultaneity and interruption. The main difficulty lies in typical perfective contexts of the passé composé with achievement verbs as well as in atypical imperfective contexts of the imperfect with accomplishment verbs. The experimental group performed notably less well in these two configurations, especially when they were found in a single utterance. We thus conclude that the positive transfer was only very partially effective, probably because it could not be automated in the experimental group

This article shows that particle verbs in Burgenland Croatian – a notable morphosyntactic phenomenon of language contact – may form aspectual pairs in a typically Slavic manner. Particle-based pairs with an indigenous base verb are formed by means of suffixation, suffix opposition, suppletion or prefixation. In the case of spatial relations, by contrast, preverbs predominate over prefixes, leading to a reduction of the old inventory of verbal compounds. Nevertheless, preverbs are only rarely obligatory in the formation of aspectual pairs. In the case of borrowings, only prefixation is productive, which might be attributed to German (and Hungarian) influence. On a par with other aspectual pairs, particle-based formations may express taxis relations (sequence, simultaneity, incidence). Language contact possibly contributed to the preservation of the Contextually Conditioned Imperfective Past also in imperfective particle verbs.

Ethnography might also serve as a “chronography,” a thick and textured accounting of time that captures the vernacular feel of place, temporality, and durations. Discourse analysis and ethnography of the Philippines call-center industry depict how the offshore identity agents emerge from partial and temporal, rather than spatial, migration into the global simultaneity of times as well as global and national contestation over the worker’s representation. While extending national space, the offshore generated by the simultaneity of times bridged by twenty-first-century technology is non-identical with either national or global time. Nationalism fuses with capitalist rhetoric to produce fantasies of development for middle- and lower middle-class denizens of Manila and Cebu. The chapter takes the temporalities found in the offshore call center from the 300-second call to the various futurities it proffers for its agents to demonstrate how workers navigate global yet disruptive futures.

The invariance of the speed of light with respect to any inertial observational frame leads to a surprisingly large number of unusual results that defy common intuition. Chief among these are time dilation, length contraction, and loss of simultaneity. The Lorentz transformation intermixes space and time, but an overarching structure is provided by the metric tensor of Minkowski space-time. The pseudo-Riemannian metric supports 4-vectors whose norms are invariants, independent of any observational frame. These invariants constitute the proper objects of reality to study in the special theory of relativity. Relativistic dynamics defines the equivalence of mass and energy, which has many applications in nuclear energy and particle physics. Forces have transformation properties between relatively moving frames that set the stage for a more general theory of relativity that describes physical phenomena in noninertial frames.

The application of the improved CFD code for the simulation of combustion and emission formation in a high-speed diesel engine has been presented and discussed. The soot concentration transport equation is found and solved together with all other flow equations. A slip correction factor is introduced into this equation. In turbulent combustion, the soot particles are contained within the turbulent eddies, and burnt up swiftly with the dissipation of these eddies in the soot oxidation zone. However, the chemical reactions always process except the dissipation of turbulent eddies and the intermixing of soot particles and turbulent eddies. The soot oxidation rate should be controlled simultaneity by the chemical reactions rate and the dissipation rate of turbulent eddies. A hybrid particle turbulent transport controlled rate and soot oxidation rate model is present in this paper and Soot formation and oxidation processes have been modeled according to this model. A reasonable agreement of the measured and computed data of in-cylinder pressure, soot, and NO emissions for different engine operation conditions has been made. The precision of simulated soot concentration is improved compare with the commonly Hiroyasu—Nagel—Strickland (HNS) soot model.

<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Extending the planar Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique to enable measurements on multiple planes simultaneously allows for some of the 3 dimensional nature of unsteady flow fields to be investigated. This requires less hardware and retains the typically higher spatial resolution of planar PIV compared to fully 3-dimensional PIV techniques. Performing multi-plane PIV measurements requires the light scattered from the different measurement planes to be distinguishable. This may be achieved by using different laser wavelengths which adds significantly to the expense and complexity of the system, by using different light sheet polarisations which is challenging for engine measurements through windows due to stress-induced birefringence, or by making alternating measurements of each plane which sacrifices the simultaneity of the flow measurement across multiple planes. In this work, simultaneous PIV measurements on two parallel offset planes are performed by modifying a standard two-dimensional two-component (2D2C) PIV system consisting of a single high-speed camera and a dual-cavity PIV laser. Image splitting optics with a variable optical path length were used to image two measurement planes onto the single camera sensor. The degree of defocus of the droplet images arising from the narrow depth of field was used to distinguish between the measurement planes. The robustness of the degree of defocus method for plane discrimination was evaluated using both representative test targets and experimentally obtained PIV images of the in-cylinder flow field of a spark ignition internal combustion engine (ICE). This depth of field based method enables simultaneous multi-plane PIV measurements of in-cylinder flows to be performed with only minor alterations to a standard 2D2C PIV system using off-the-shelf optics.</div></div>
