The first recorded COVID-19 case emerged in China and, within a few months, it has spread to 210 countries globally, thrusting people into danger, uncertainty, fear, and of course physical and social isolation. The impacts of this pandemic are significant for every aspect of our lives. Crises include risk and chances at the same time. As Shakespeare said, “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so“. This paper focuses on threats and opportunities of the pandemic crisis for humans and planet Earth. Crisis is defined as an unplanned and unwanted process of limited duration and impact, which endangers primary goals, and produces ambivalent outcome. Crisis management encompasses three phases: avoiding the crisis, identifying its symptoms when they occur and finding ways out of the crisis. There are several research questions related to that. First, could the COVID-19 crisis be avoided? Or at least could its onset be recognized early? Second, how can the pandemic crisis be measured in terms of its intensity and depth? Third, which ways lead us out of the crisis? And fourth, which lessons have to be learned? Exploring the novel literature and research findings provides new insights into the pandemic crisis and the crisis management process, which is the aim of the paper. With its results and major conclusions this paper provides a holistic perspective to the pandemic crisis and crisis management.

The pandemic disrupts the functioning of most sectors and exposes the shortcomings and vulnerabilities among many. Literature search in leading databases reveals that though shocked by the crisis, many industries and organizations have reinvented themselves through various strategies to overcome the consequences of the pandemic. After a thorough analysis of individual articles, the authors found out that human resource management considers the disruptive changes in the working pattern, challenges, and opportunities ahead and makes appropriate changes to create an efficient workforce for the future with the help of technology that has become an inevitable companion in human resource management and not a panacea for uncertainties and crises ahead.

The highly contagious disease COVID-19, caused by SARS-CoV-2, has emerged as a global pandemic. The high rate of contact transmission of this virus is the major cause of concern nowadays. Owing to the absence of any effective drugs/vaccines against COVID-19, many countries adopted ‘lockdown’ to minimize transmission of virus. The other means that was applied during lockdown, to mitigate the growth of infection is the ‘test, trace, track and isolate’. However, different countries responded differently to these control measures with different outcome in the growth of infection. For now, several countries have started ‘unlock’, to handle the severe economic stress, created in response to lockdown. Again, lifting lockdown is another global threat, having the chance of second wave of infection. In such situation, the major challenge is to prevent the spread of infection, amid resumption of work. The present review is aimed to outline the prospect and future direction of disease management and current therapeutics against COVID-19.

The requirement to address risk in the prevailing business environment has been accentuated due to the constraints of the pandemic. It is proposed that the nature of risk context has been fundamentally altered by the global events of COVID. This paper provides a perspective that is based on an exploratory study of the identification and addressing of risk, in terms of business projects.A review of the literature has been undertaken and the key themes for the study topic identified. A senior manager, who is responsible for risk management at a company that runs international projects, was interviewed in an empirical study. A thematic analysis was performed, employing an inductive approach, in this research into a single case. The aim was to contribute to the prevailing literature and enhance understanding of the post pandemic business environment, in respect of risk management. The principal questions concerning risk and risk management are discerned. The objective is to consider risk in the post pandemic environment, in order to improve understanding of the issues relevant to business. The requirement to address these issues is also covered, with an attempt to determine the main themes from the research, in order to assist practitioners. The use of technology to support business continuity and achieve business objectives during the pandemic is discussed. An articulation of Lewin’s change model is proposed to summarise this work and assist in the comprehension of the contemporary situation.

The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered a health emergency as a vaccine for it has not been found yet requiring the government to seriously manage it. Therefore, the government needs to effectively implement non-pharmaceutical measures. One of the measures to suppress the spread of the virus is public communication. The government’s public communication in dealing with COVID-19 has faced problems resulted in low public discipline and awareness thus far. This study used a quantitative approach with descriptive statistics analysis. The analysis does not generalize the result but it can explain the characteristics of the sample to formulate the meaning of the result. The findings show that the public communication management of the government of Indonesia has not been effective because the dissemination of public information is diverse and inconsistent. This is because the government gives freedom to various media to provide information to the public, which creates a gap in the management of COVID-19 in Indonesia and results in low public discipline and awareness (mean value 2,97). Therefore, it is difficult for the government to deal with and manage health emergencies caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Research has shown that the government must provide the public with consistent and valid information (mean value 3,51), monitor and supervise mass and electronic media, and use social media and online media to provide valid information from the government and disseminate positive and educative information to the public (mean value 4,06).

The Covid-19 pandemic affects all sectors of life. The government has made various efforts to respond to the impact of the pandemic, but the success of government efforts is determined by public perceptions. Communities have an important role in shaping collective behavior in responding to pandemic disasters, there are people who respond well to pandemic disasters and there are people who underestimate pandemic disasters. The formation of public perceptions is caused by the lack of knowledge about the pandemic and the virus itself, so it is necessary to form public perceptions about the Covid-19 pandemic through disaster risk management. This community service activity aims to provide understanding and public awareness as a preventive effort in shaping the public's perception of responding to the Covid-19 pandemic. This community service activity is carried out by means of socialization and training to the community in Suko Sewu District, Bojonegoro Regency. The results of the pre-test and post-test on the practical knowledge of the community showed an average increase of 85 percent. With these results, it can help the public in forming perceptions about the Covid-19 pandemic and can transmit these perceptions to the surrounding community. abstrakPandemi Covid-19 berdampak pada semua sektor kehidupan. Discourses on pandemics often prioritize germane pharmaceutical issues while largely ignoring the social dimensions to them, especially the paradoxical role of transportation in pandemic transmission and management. Granted, from an epidemiological perspective, transportation is technically a vector of pandemics; however, by sustaining continuous critical supply chains and facilitating the conveyance of interventions during pandemics, transportation also plays a crucial role in pandemic control and management. Indeed, studies have shown that the risk of disease transmission can be significantly reduced by the observation of non-pharmaceutical transport protocols. Against this background, this paper highlights the dual roles of transportation in aiding and curbing pandemics, with a strong emphasis on the latter. Moreover, towards consolidating on the strengths of the transport sector in the control and management of public health issues, this paper underscores the sacrosanctity of responsible transport. Challenges were identified, and practicable recommendations were proffered towards containing them.

Fast development and transmission of disease poses a health threat for a larger population and affects the functioning of almost all social systems, both within and outside nation-state borders, thus also affecting the possibilities of free migration and movement. The main aim of this article is to discuss the principal mechanisms of disease control in relation to migration in various socio-historical contexts. It identifies and compares historical patterns and contemporary measures of preventive control systems while considering the wider social context and migrants’ specific position. This paper combines the historical insights into various administrative and political systems in Europe and Croatia that have sought adequate measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases with the current state of the affair in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of the regulation and management of the contemporary COVID-19 pandemic, restrictions have been introduced on cross-border movement and travel. Those restrictions and quarantine measures have abruptly halted not only international but also migration within the borders of nation-states, especially during the first wave of the pandemic in spring 2020. Emphasis has been placed on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on labour and forced migration, as well as on the trends in public attitudes on immigrants affected by pandemic management mechanisms.

The COVID-19 pandemic suddenly and unexpectedly has brought unprecedented short and long-term challenges to organizations. In the context of the global economic crisis, the role and importance of production information and its operational accounting in making managerial decisions is increasing. The main task of such support is to use new methods of organizing production and sales, and as a result, to reduce costs and improve the quality characteristics of products. The crisis makes more "stringent" requirements for the quality of information for making management decisions. Therefore, it is critically important to use the entire arsenal of the management accounting system, which allows solving these problems. Insufficient or incorrect understanding of the importance of management accounting in times of crisis is the ignorance or ineffective use of its tools in the organization. The purpose of this study is to examine changes in the management accounting system during the crisis. In this work, various aspects of the organization's management accounting are analyzed. The most effective ways to optimize costs in the crisis period of the organization's activities are identified. Long-term anti-crisis solutions are proposed. The presented methods of overcoming the crisis phenomena can be applied in the economic activity of any economic organization.

This article aims to assess the changes in the HEIs management system elements during the pandemic. The methodology was built on the analysis of management cases of Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko and National University "Lviv Polytechnic". The internal documentation of HEIs management: strategies and development plans, internal documentation of quality management system implementation defining the main challenges of HEIs management were also used for case analysis. Results. It was determined that the pandemic generated significant structural changes in the system of HEIs management caused by changes in students' needs, development, and spread of innovative learning technologies, reduction in the number of international students, closing, merging, and restructuring of universities due to funding cuts. The pandemic has put forward challenges to the core business of higher education in supporting students through a wide range of curricula. These challenges make it much more difficult to implement interactive, person-centered traditional classroom instruction based on years of university experience. To adapt to a long-term pandemic, HEIs require flexible educational methods that will continuously adapt to different stages. COVID-19 led to the activation of long-term pedagogical trends, created a natural experiment to test and evaluate numerous innovations.

Venous insufficiency and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) are the main venous system diseases. Although deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can lead to serious complications and even death, it is a treatable disease. Today, both DVT and pulmonary embolism (PE) are referred to by the common name of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Although COVID-19 mainly affects the respiratory system, it also tends to damage many organs and develop VTE due to its prothrombotic course. In patients recovering from COVID-19, the venous system is adversely affected due to the prothrombotic course of the disease and immobility. In our study, venous system diseases and their treatments after COVID-19 disease were reviewed. Thirty of the patients who applied to our hospital with the preliminary diagnosis of venous insufficiency after recovering from COVID-19 were included in our study. The physical examination findings and laboratory parameters of the patients were retrospectively reviewed. In all cases, besides routine laboratory tests, radiological and vascular Doppler ultrasonographic examinations were also performed. Of the 30 patients included in the study, 11 (36.6%) were male and 19 (63.3%) were female. Their ages ranged from 30 to 79 years, with a mean age of 59.4±12.77 years. Venous insufficiency was detected in all patients in venous Doppler ultrasonographic examination. In addition, DVT was also detected in four cases. Fifteen (50%) of our patients were hypertensive. Diabetes mellitus was also present in five of the hypertensive patients. Combined diosmin and hesperidin treatment may be preferred in cases of venous insufficiency developing after COVID-19. Since no adverse effects of warfarin have been observed in severe COVID-19 disease, it can be used safely in DVT cases that develop after the treatment of COVID19.

The motivation for the research was the suddenness of the COVID-19 pandemic and the unavailability of health measures (well-established treatment and vaccination) at the beginning of 2020, which caused an uncontrollable increase in the incidence of disease worldwide and high mortality. The research aims to conduct a dataset analysis of pandemic risks and risk management perspectives based on management and marketing during the COVID-19 recession. The dataset aggregated the statistics on management, marketing, and morbidity during COVID-19 for most countries worldwide that provide data for international statistics (141 countries). Using the developed methodological approach, the authors evaluate the contribution of management and marketing in the fight against the viral threat. The authors calculated specific indices that reflect the contribution of each management and marketing factor separately to combat the viral threat in the second and third trimesters of 2020. The novelty of this research lies in the fact that the dataset study provides a systemic coverage of international experience and develops a universal economic approach to pandemic risk management. The theoretical significance of the research findings is that they reveal differences in the capabilities of economic risk management of a pandemic as the viral threat changes. The practical significance of the research lies in the fact that the results obtained in the third trimester of 2020 make it possible to adjust the policy of the state and corporate risk management of the COVID-19 pandemic during the subsequent pandemic waves, in the post-pandemic period, and in future epidemics and pandemics. Economic measures fill the existing gap, making up for the lack of risk management measures in the early phases of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Conventional wisdom holds that pre-event planning is a key factor in effective disaster response. In assessing the response to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, it is necessary to evaluate the extent to which emergency management agencies were prepared to respond to a pandemic, particularly given the unusual nature of this event, ie, scope, scale, and length of response. While emergency management agencies at every level of government have been involved in the COVID-19 response, state-level governments have taken on a prominent and atypical leadership role. This study assesses the extent and role that emergency management agencies planned for a pandemic scenario. Understanding the extent to which state-level emergency management agencies planned for an event like the COVID-19 pandemic and what they anticipated their roles to provide insight for future revisions in pandemic planning. This study addresses two related research questions: RQ 1: To what extent did state-level emergency management agencies account for a pandemic in emergency management response plans prior to COVID-19? RQ 2: What was the planned role of state-level emergency management agencies in the response to a pandemic? An analysis of state-level emergency management plans found that, although all states with available emergency management response plans included pandemics, there was significant variation in the extent of the inclusion, and the role prescribed for emergency management. Public health and emergency management response plans were congruent with respect to the planned role of emergency management.

Purpose: The end of the first quarter of 2020 is the beginning of a new, difficult time in the functioning of transport companies, as well as the entire Polish and world economy. The appearance of Covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2) resulted in a number of market restrictions and a sharp decline in transport orders. Enterprises had to change the way they were managed and operated, had to adapt to a different economic reality in order to continue to prosper. The aim of the article is to define the essence of managing a transport company in the new market and economic conditions that appeared during the Covid-19 pandemic. Design/methodology/approach: The research procedure included review of polish and foreign literature, analysis of legal acts, questionnaire research, analysis of the content of internal documents of transport companies, method of analysis and synthesis, case study, methods of inductive and deductive reasoning. The article presents the results of scientific research on the impact of Covid-19 on the management and decisions made in a transport company. Findings: The high level of impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the management of a transport company has been demonstrated. The factor that most influenced the management and decisions of transport companies is the decline or fear of a decline in contracts for transport services. Transport companies are afraid of the further negative effects of the pandemic, and therefore do not want to take out investment loans in order to develop the company. The article discusses the activities of transport companies and the management of a transport company in crisis conditions. Research limitations/implications: The article presents a survey carried out in Polish transport companies from the Podkarpackie and Lubelskie voivodships. Therefore, the research results concern the area of south-eastern Poland. Practical implications: The results of the research may be helpful for managers of transport companies (management decisions made) in order to limit the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on their business activities. Originality/value: The presented research and conclusions provide practical guidance to managers about what decisions and actions can improve the economic condition of their transport companies in the difficult period of the Covid-19 pandemic, based on the example of the analyzed transport companies.

Background: With the worldwide spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the global economy has entered a cold winter, and the International Monetary Fund predicts that the global economy will shrink by about 3% in 2020. The outbreak of the epidemic has also caused heavy losses to the Chinese economy. In the first quarter of 2020, actual GDP fell sharply for the first time by 6.8% year-on-year for the first time. This is the first decline since record. Then, according to the data from the business survey in March, China's economy has improved compared with February, which shows that the economy has rebounded under the influence of policies. Judging from the current situation, although China has passed the peak period of the epidemic, affected by the high cases abroad, it can only be carried out slowly for the resumption of production. Enterprises, as micro-individuals under the macro economy, need to pass through analyzing the dynamic management of the enterprise to deepen the reform of the commercial system and stimulate the vitality of the enterprise. This will also provide data support for the government formulating relevant policies, which is conducive to the synergy of various policies and enhance the momentum of economic recovery. On the other hand, we choose tourism as our specific research object. Thus, we need to set different scenarios according to the development situation of the epidemic, evaluate the impact of the novel coronavirus epidemic on China's tourism industry, and discuss tourism development and opportunities in the post-epidemic era from the aspects of tourism's response to the epidemic and the development trend of the tourism after the epidemic4. Methods: This dissertation first discusses the issue of enterprise dynamic management in the post covid-19 epidemic era, establishes the Difference-in-Difference model (DID model), and improves the model reasonably. It puts forward the dynamic management plan of different regions, and judges the effect of the policy on the implementation of the epidemic. At the same time, it also aims at the impact of the epidemic on the tourism industry at the important time points. The elasticity method and linear regression are used to evaluate and forecast.Using transportation data as a leading indicator, the elasticity of the total number of tourists Et1 and the elasticity of total tourism revenue Ei1 during the Spring Festival and Spring Festival are calculated to be 1.39 and 1.60 respectively. The impact of COVID-19 on the Spring Festival tourism market is evaluated through the Spring Festival elasticity; During the period, the elasticity of the International Workers’ Day tourism market relative to the Spring Festival tourism market Et2 、Ei2 is calculated to be 1.14 and 0.9024 respectively through data over the years. Combining the forecast results of the Spring Festival tourism market and the data calibration of different forecast scenarios, the International Workers’ Day is predicted. The total number of tourist trips and total tourism revenue during the period; for the National Holiday, the above ideas are used to calculate the elasticity of the National Holiday tourism market relative to the Spring Festival and International Workers’ Day tourism markets Et3 、 Ei3 , which are 0.69 and 0.94, respectively , predicting the total number of tourists and total tourism revenue during the National Holiday period. Findings: The results based on DID model analysis show that the significance level of the policy to the GDP of Jiangsu Province is 32%. The saliency level in Hubei province is 37%. In the first quarter of the year 2020, the total travel time and total tourism revenue of the first quarter of the year 2020 are predicted, and the logarithmic linear regression equation is established based on the total tourist arrivals and the total tourism revenue in the year 2020 as the explanatory variables of total tourism trips and total tourism revenue in the first quarter. The total number of tourist trips in the first quarter of the year 2020 is 394 million, a decrease of 74.42% over the same period last year, and the total value of tourism revenue is 319 billion 565 million yuan, a decrease of 77.01% over the same period last year. The counter-factual prediction value of the total number of tourists in the first quarter of the year 2020 is 1 billion 676 million, and the counter-factual prediction value of the total tourism revenue is 1 trillion and 580 billion yuan. During the first half of the year 2020, the total number of tourists and the total tourism revenue in the first half of the year are predicted. The total number of tourists in the first quarter and the International Workers’ Day is used as the explanatory variables of the total travel time in the first half of the year. Logarithmic linear regression equations are established respectively and replaced by the estimated values. The predicted value of the total tourist arrivals in the first half of the year 2020 is 1 billion 440 million, which is 53.25% lower than that in the same period last year. The forecast value of total tourism revenue is 1 trillion and 165 billion 98 million yuan, with a decrease of 58.09%. Compared with the same period last year, the potential decline of the total number of tourists in the first half of the year 2020 is 1 billion 911 million, with a decrease of 57.03%, resulting in a potential loss of 1 trillion and 994 billion 902 million yuan and a loss ratio of 63.13% for tourism total revenue. Under the optimistic forecast, the total number of tourist trips in the year 2020 is 4 billion 659 million. A decrease of 23.12% compared with the same period last year, and the total value of tourism revenue is 4 trillion and 807 billion 295 million yuan, 26.27% lower than that of the same period last year. Under the prudent forecast, the total number of tourist trips in the year 2020 is 3 billion 941 million, a decrease of 34.97% over the same period last year, and the total value of tourism revenue is 3 trillion and 922 billion 883 million yuan, a decrease of 39.83%, over the same period of the last year. Interpretation: China's economy has been affected by the epidemic to varying degrees in all sectors, especially in the tertiary sector. And because the outbreak situation in China did not look good in the first quarter of 2020, almost all companies made a loss in the first quarter of 2020. To address the economic downturn, the Chinese government has taken various measures, such as issuing coupons to stimulate consumption, discounting promotions, etc. And as the domestic epidemic situation in China continues to improve, more and more companies have resumed normal operations in the last two months. It is believed that in the near future, China's economic situation will be significantly better than in the first quarter.

Abstract. Introduction. The recent world crisis events triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic have had a significant impact on European and world companies. Specifically, they focused on the first two pandemics, which made the world situation experience similar restrictions on a global scale (Congo flu in Hong Kong in 1968, swine flu outbreak in 2009), various disasters, and natural inevitable Avoided accidents, unforeseen events such as terrorist actions, etc. Purpose. This article is focused on learning of unresolved aspects of digital transformation of human resource management during the pandemic require further research, particularly to identify and summarize the trends and factors contributing to these changes, and to identify issues and obstacles that arise throughout the process. Results. The completed study shows that companies should be ready to work in advance, in order to be sustainable and have at least some stability and competitive edge during time of crisises. Crisis management systems are analyzed and based on a four-level circular model, more commonly known as the PPRR model. Also, any organization should be prepared for different crises, which may be short-term or long-term. 3-tier system of crisis response is analyzed, it consists of pre-crisis period of preparations, contingency plan, which is aimed at saving the maximum stream of revenue, while enduring minimal hardships from the crisis and rehabilitation stage, at which thorough analysis should be conducted in order to improve the future reaction for the crisis. Conclusions. The review found that risk management primarily helps provide post-crisis renewal, stability and growth, reduce revenue volatility, increase stakeholder confidence, protect an organization`s assets, and meet insurance, legal and regulatory requirements. This means that structured risk management must be incorporated into existing operations and become an integral part of key decision-making processes. Therefore, it can be concluded that the risk management plan must be constantly updated, the philosophy must be able to change, and it must be improved taking into account changes in external or internal factors.

The types of crises that the State witnesses are so complex and multidimensional that anyone who has tried to pigeonhole the functions and activities of crisis communication managers inevitably has noticed that this is no easy job. The Covid-19 pandemic is a very special crisis in the sense that it is a new mass phenomenon which, nevertheless, has specific national features. The article encompasses the various governments’ communication with the general public in seven European countries during the initial stage of the pandemic and the communicative role played by political leaders and state structures within each nation. The paper considers the government crisis communication drawing on the principles of crisis communication theory and shows the extent to which government communication at this period followed the key indicators of effective communication. This study proposes a number of crisis communication models which contribute to the generalization of functions and characteristics of State communication affected by their specific political and cultural contexts.

The world is threatened with a novel corona virus (COVID-19) which has posed an unpredictable challenge to the public health workforce. It originated from the Wuhan City of China and spread across the globe creating havoc among the public and healthcare workers which led to WHO declaring it to be pandemic. Transmission of this virus is through symptomatic and asymptomatic patients in the form of fomites produced while coughing or sneezing. This has led to a global crisis subsequently leading to the scarce availability of health care resources such as personal protective equipment, ventilators, ICU beds, medication. Healthcare workers have been a vital human resource in providing treatment and assistance to the infected patients though they were facing a high risk of themselves getting infected by the coronavirus. They suffered from fatigue, physical, and psychological violence as they tend to work for longer hours. Detection of infected patients was implemented, as the widely used RT- PCR method was accurate but took more time for the definite results. Hence, for quick results and to detect more number of infected patients, the rapid antigen test was conducted. Therefore, this virus has resulted in a greater impact on the economy and social development and this article of many infected countries.

Two significant phenomena that have occurred in the past few years have been emigration and the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. These events shook the world on a global level, causing political, economic, social and other consequences. These two crises seem to have been used to achieve certain political goals, both nationally and globally. Thus, political goals came to the fore in the defense against the crisis. However, the crisis of the pandemic is more relevant by nature, because it is about people's lives and health, globally, encompassing all countries, different nations, cultures, religions, but also different gender, age, education and other structures. The crisis of the pandemic and the fight against it is aggravated by migration, environmental, economic and other crises, which means that these are integrated crises to which an integrated or holistic response should be given. Medical and pharmaceutical science and the profession found themselves in a delicate situation, to respond to the challenges of mass infection with the C-19 virus, and both were not prepared to respond to the pandemic, and this disorientation caused "cracks" that led to undermined public confidence in medicine and the subordination of the medical profession to politics. This is more or less a statement that applies to the whole world, and especially to transition countries with a low level of democracy and without strong health, but also other institutions. The paper deals with the place and role of medical science and profession in the COVID-19 pandemic and the problems that led to the ideologisation, but also the commercialization of the pandemic. The aim of the paper is to point out certain problems in the management of the pandemic, so that they would not appear in the next mass crises

Construction projects undergo critical stages resulting to circumstances with high uncertainty and risk, which has been escalated by the pandemic. As the pandemic continues to overwhelm the world, its negative effects to construction industry are clearly manifested. Health and safety risks in previous studies and researchers are not risk factors that has great impact to construction industry. However, the COVID-19 pandemic significantly increases the risks that needs intensive risk management techniques to continue construction operations. This study seeks to identify emerging risks and explored risk management techniques applied by construction companies in the Philippines in light of covid-19 pandemic. Findings of the study were based from a questionnaire survey on pandemic risk management in construction projects. Questionnaires were administered based on purposive sampling. Respondents were civil engineers and architects who are directly involved in management and administration of construction projects. The data obtained were analyzed and presented through frequency table and charts. As concluded, health and safety risk are the main risks factors that has effects on cost, time and quality of construction projects. Furthermore, these risks must be managed with great effort and coordination with the government to minimize its effects. In addition, the study is essential to construction industry to mitigate and control new emerging risk to ensure successful project completion.

The change in presidential administrations in the United States promises new approaches to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. The first year of the pandemic response in the United States has been characterized by a lack of national leadership. Moreover, the message from the White House Coronavirus Task Force has been muddled at best. There have been great inconsistencies in how the States have chosen to address spreading infections and increased stress on individual Americans who are trying to protect themselves and their families. The same pattern can be found with the distribution of vaccines and management of vaccinations. Politics has often conflicted with public health concerns. The States have been left to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to medical personnel and first responders and to formulate their own guidance for protective measures.

Background and aim COVID-19 pandemic has predisposed patients undergoing surgery to post-operative infection and resultant complications. Appendicitis is frequently managed by appendicectomy. After the onset of the pandemic, selected cases of appendicitis were managed with antibiotics which is a recognised treatment option. Our objective was to compare the management of appendicitis and post-operative outcomes between pre- and post-COVID-19. Methods Ninety-six patients were identified from before the onset of the pandemic (November 2019) to after the onset of the pandemic (May 2020). Data were collected retrospectively from electronic records including demographics, investigations, treatment, duration of inpatient stay, complications, readmissions and compared between pre- and post-COVID-19 groups. Results One hundred percent underwent surgical treatment before the onset of pandemic, compared with 56.3% from the onset of the pandemic. A greater percentage of patients were investigated with imaging post-COVID-19 (100% versus 60.9%; p < 0.00001). There was no significant difference in the outcomes between the two groups. Conclusion CT/MRI scan was preferred to laparoscopy in diagnosing appendicitis and conservative management of uncomplicated appendicitis was common practice after the onset of pandemic. Health boards can adapt their management of surgical conditions during pandemics without adverse short-term consequences. Long term follow-up of this cohort will identify patients suitable for conservative management.

ABSTRACT:So far, the literature that looks at the relationship between community organizations and the Covid-19 pandemic tends to see community organizations only as subjects that have a big influence and role in helping the community to deal with Covid-19. However, no one has seen the relationship between community organizations and the Covid-19 pandemic by seeing community organizations as objects of the presence of the pandemic. So that researchers want to see further how community organizations deal with the Covid-19 pandemic as a disaster. More specifically, researchers want to analyze the adaptation of community organizations to the presence of Covid-19 as part of organizational disaster management. This will then be seen in more detail by taking one of the cases in a community organization based on empowerment in the fields of education and poverty alleviation, namely Project Child Indonesia. The topic of organizational adaptation will be the main topic of this paper.

This article aims to demonstrate creativity as a key factor in seizing opportunities within the cultural segment, particularly considering other intangible resources of organizations such as network capability and knowledge during the pandemic. Emergency management systems (EMS) assist emergency managers to resolve emergencies on hand, through analyzing the emergency characteristics and consolidating data from different departments that are involved in resolving the emergency. Many countries have adopted various forms of EMS that are specialized in resolving one type of emergency, and studies demonstrate their effectiveness in producing better decisions. However, the COVID-19 pandemic uncovered the lack of a comprehensive framework that could deal with different emergencies. It also revealed the inability of the current systems to communicate with each other to retrieve the needed data. The aim of this study is to show the current state of EMS in emergency departments by constructing a framework for a knowledge-based decision support system for emergency management focusing on resolving pandemics. Qualitative approach was adopted in this research, where the authors reviewed emergency management in general and pandemics in specific. Existing EMS systems were investigated, and knowledge- based decision support systems were explored. Approaches for integration, communication, and collaboration were also studied. As a result of this study, a comprehensive framework, i.e., a knowledge- based decision support system for emergency departments, focusing on resolving pandemics was introduced. The framework was validated by a domain expert who provided insights and suggestions for future research. While the primary research focus is to assist emergency managers in resolving the COVID-19 pandemic, the proposed framework is unique by adopting different approaches and techniques that enable the system to deal with various emergencies not limited to the current pandemic.
