Almost a century after the publication, in 1911, of the first two volumes of his magnum opus (the third and fourth appeared together in 1920) Goddard Henry Orpen’s Ireland under the Normans remains controversial. The way to test this is not to read the polite comments of this generation of his successors but to go to a university library, take all four volumes off the shelf, and expose one’s eyes to the palimpsest of student marginalia added down through the decades. Pencilled emotions ranging from anger and outrage to ridicule and blasphemy litter the pages and tarnish its author’s memory, every bit as much in the reprint (dating, interestingly, from 1968) as in the original edition.When the first two volumes, covering the period 1169-1216, were published, they were warmly greeted in certain quarters, British journals in particular carrying laudatory reviews. But in nationalist Ireland grave offence was taken not merely at some of the author’s apparently callous and hurtful statements, but at his basic thesis, a thesis which Orpen set out clearly in the preface to his first volume: In the course of my study of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries (which has been spread over many years) … I have been led to regard the domination of the English Crown and of its ministers in Ireland, during the thirteenth century, and indeed up to the invasion of Edward Bruce in 1315, as having been much more complete than has been generally recognised, and to think that due credit has not been given to the new rulers for creating the comparative peace and order and the manifest progress and prosperity that Ireland enjoyed, during that period, wherever their rule was effective …. . . it is, I think, manifest that the most prominent effect of the Anglo-Norman occupation was not, as has been represented, an increase of turmoil, but rather the introduction over large parts of Ireland of a measure of peace and prosperity quite unknown before.

Medieval archaeology in Ireland has been described twice in the last 30 years as ‘in its infancy’, by Delaney (1977: 46) andby Barry (1987: 1). Neither was strictly correct. Ireland played a full part in the general English interest in medieval castles and churches around 1900, with Champneys, Orpen and Westropp in particular listing and describing them and relating to their historical and European context. In Ulster the medieval period had occupied a central place in archaeological research and excavation, rcmarkable within Europe and unique within the British Isles, from 1950 (Tope 1966).

Анотація:

Most employers agree that the effectiveness and success of their organisations depend on the effective utilisation of their human resources. Ill health in the workplace is a threat to optimal productivity, reduced absenteeism, provision of sustainable employee benefits, a motivated workforce, staff retention and maximisation of profits. Burnout and engagement are therefore important fields of investigation in the industrial psychology field. The aim of this study was to: test a model of work-related well-being; develop and evaluate a resilience intervention programme for a large financial services institution in South Africa. Article 1 used a cross-sectional survey design. The participants were predominantly in the administrative, call centre and IT divisions (N = 192). Article 2 was the development of a resilience model, which was based on the integration of thinking from an extensive literature review by the researcher. Article 3 used an experimental design, with a control group (n=51) and an experimental group («=55). Information was collected in a longitudinal research. The research method for each of the three articles of this study consisted of a brief literature review and an empirical study. The measuring instruments used in this study were the Maslach Burnout Inventory - General Survey (MBI-GS), Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES), Job Demands-Resources Scale (JD-RS), Health subscales, Organisational Commitment subscales, the ASSET questionnaire, the Life Orientation Test - Revised (LOT-R) and a biographical questionnaire. In both article 1 and article 3, descriptive statistics were computed to describe the data; as were Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients to specify the relationship between the variables. In article 1, multiple regression analyses were conducted to determine the proportion of variance in the dependent variable that is predicted by the independent variables. In article 3, paired-samples f-tests were used to determine the difference in results for year 1 and year 2. Article 1 showed the central role that low optimism plays in contributing to burnout, and high optimism plays in work engagement. Interestingly, high social support was linked to increased cynicism, whilst low social support contributed to dedication. Burnout contributed to both physical and psychological ill health. Dedication and low cynicism contributed to affective commitment, whilst engagement and low cynicism contributed to behavioural commitment. Article 2 was the development of a multidimensional, proactive coping approach which consistently strives to develop and enhance the individual's resilience coping reservoir pools (mental, spiritual, socio-emotional and physical) leading to improved resilience, wellness and quality of life. Each reservoir pool has activities that enhance the fitness of the individual, namely physical (rest and relaxation, exercise and nutrition), mental (stimuli, reflection and empowering thinking), spiritual (coat of arms, pay it forward and gratitude), socio-emotional (breaking destructive relationships and nurturing relationships, responsibility). Article 3's results showed that the resilience intervention resulted in a statistically significant difference decrease in psychological ill health. Recommendations for future research were made.

In response to growing German propaganda during the First World War, the British Government formed a special Propaganda Department, which used visual art as a means of boosting up the morale of civilians and British soldiers on the Front. The War Artists‟ Scheme brought into being under the auspices of the Propaganda Department in 1914 allowed some of the most promising British artists to produce memorable paintings. The works documented the numerous sites of the Western and Eastern Front. In addition, the artists employed under the scheme presented the nation with portraits of notable military and political figures engaged in the war effort. This thesis investigates how William Orpen, an established society portraitist and A.R.A., fits into the War Artists‟ Scheme. His position was problematic: as a painter working in an early twentieth-century descriptive vein and older than other artists at the Front, how did he fare in this troubled context? Orpen‟s work on the Western Front (France and Flanders) has been so far neglected and considered to be of little relevance in comparison to what other avant-garde artists produced during the same time span. The thesis investigates how Orpen, although painting in an early twentieth-century representational style considered slightly passé, embedded in his works innovative means of expression, creating vivid, haunting imagery, adding to a body of work which was supposed to be documentary a depth reminiscent of ecclesiastic artistic practice. The thesis attempts to re-evaluate Orpen‟s war oeuvre, an aspect of the artist‟s rich imagery hitherto left to oblivion.

Cette thèse, menée de manière chronologique, examine les questions du lieu et de l’espace dans l’œuvre picturale et textuelle de l’artiste d’origine irlandaise William Orpen (1878-1931).Cette recherche se fonde sur les résultats de différents types d’approche (histoire de l’art, critique littéraire, philosophie, psychologie, sociologie). Son objectif est de mettre en lumière la question de l’origine, synonyme pour Orpen de séparations, de fractures et de ruptures de toutes sortes. Il est également de montrer que les idées de lieu et d’espace ne sont pas étrangères à celles d’entre-deux : à cheval sur deux siècles et sur deux pays (l’Angleterre et l’Irlande) lors d’une période de profonds changements, Orpen était, dans sa pratique littéraire et artistique, à mi-chemin entre tradition et modernité, entre unité et fragmentation, entre centre et périphérie. De la tension entre ces différents pôles résulta inévitablement une crise pour le portraitiste mondain qu’il fut d’abord, puis pour le peintre de guerre officiel qu’il devint en France en 1917 — crise qui exigea qu’il fît des choix, qu’il quittât sa « place au soleil » pour se diriger vers un ailleurs incertain. Conducted chronologically, this thesis examines questions of place and space in the pictorial and textual work of the Irish-born artist William Orpen (1878-1931).This research is based on the results of different types of approach (art history, literary criticism, philosophy, psychology, sociology). Its aim is to shed light on the question of origin, which for Orpen is synonymous with separations, fractures and ruptures of all kinds. It also demonstrates that ideas of place and space are not foreign to those of in-betweenness: in-between two centuries and two countries (England and Ireland) during a period of deep change, Orpen was, in his literary and artistic practice, halfway between tradition and modernity, between unity and fragmentation, between centre and periphery. The tension between these different poles inevitably resulted in a crisis for the society portrait painter he was at first, and then for the official war painter he became in France in 1917—a crisis which required him to make choices, to leave his “place in the sun” and to head for an uncertain elsewhere. This crisis, characteristic of the modern period, concerned visual and textual representation, but was also human, political, social, moral and religious.I propose to show that Orpen never stopped exploring the condition of modern man, considering the multiple manifestations of order and disorder, the conflicts of space and emptiness, the reconciliation of permanence and metamorphosis, the struggle between light and shadow, the relationship between the real and the imaginary, the multiform interplay of polarities

Jeg tænker ofte på hvor meget jeg går glip af eller aldrig vil kommer til at forstå . Der findes såmeget viden, så mange systemer og logikker, som jeg aldrig vil have tid til at sætte mig ind i ellerundersøge kritisk. Der er så mange ting man tager for givet eller bare vælger at stole på blindt.Der findes dårligt tid til at standse op og reflektere. Vi skal rationalisere og effektivisere voreskærlighedsliv, vores økonomi,vores fritid. Der skal være kontrol på alting, så at man kan nå dethele.På dansk findes der et udsagn som lyder ”jeg har styr på tingene”, jeg har ofte spekuleret overdenne sætnings egentlige betydning. For mig handler dette udsagn om kontrol, om at stræbe efter atkontrollere alting. Det komplette/ perfekte menneske har styr på alt sit følelsesliv, sin karriere,opvasken... alt er under kontrol. Sætningen er ladet med en positiv ladning, men er detnødvendigvis ønskværdigt at stræbe efter at have kontrol over alting?Jeg har valgt at arbejde med temaet kaos og orden. Mit tema findes både i min fortælling og i minpraktiske metode. I mit arbejde anvender jeg mig af hverdagsobjektets logik til at skabe en fiction.Jeg vil i min rapport derfor kigge nærmere på hverdagsobjektets logik, som jeg undersøger iafsnittet hverdagsobjekt, hvori jeg også ser på kaos og orden udfra et hverdagsperspektiv.I afsnittet praktisk metode vil jeg gøre rede for, hvordan jeg undersøger kaos og orden igennemmin praktiske metode. Jeg har valgt udelukkende at beskrive min process, hvori jeg deformeretallerkenerne og kopperne, da dette er en direkte formundersøgelse af kaos og orden.Derudover vil jeg beskrive min egen arbejdsmetode samt supplere denne med refleksioner omkringmit arbejde. I afsnittet refleksion har jeg inkluderet dele fra Louise Mazanti´s Ph.d-afhandling”Superobjekter” for at understøtte min egen analyse af mit projekt. Efter at have gjort research påmit arbejde og skrevet dele af min opgave, blev det klart for mig at hendes forslag om et udvidetæstetik begreb, (for at kunne begrebsligøre konceptuelt kunsthåndværk), er ganske beskrivende ogbehjælpeligt i forståelsen af mit eget arbejde. Det er altså helt bevidst, at dette teori-afsnit ligger tilsidst i opgaven.

El método de estudio utilizado al efecto es el deductivo, a partir del concepto de Orden Público y a continuación, Orden Público Económico, se deduce el de Orden Público Ambiental. Finalmente, respecto a los resultados obtenidos, se aprecia que existe efectivamente un Orden Público Ambiental, formulándose una definición y características, de acuerdo a los objetivos del presente trabajo, especificados anteriormente.

Bakgrunden till föreliggande studie är att stroke är en av Sveriges stora folksjukdomar och afasi kan uppkomma som komplikation. Detta kan medföra problem vid kommunikationen och vårdrelationen kan bli lidande. Syftet med denna litteraturstudie var att belysa vårdrelationen med strokedrabbad patient med afasi ur ett vårdarperspektiv. Studien grundade sig på sex vetenskapliga artiklar som granskades genom innehållsanalys inspirerad av Burnards (1991) analysmetod. Analysen resulterade i tre huvudgrupper med undergrupper vilka belyser olika aspekter för att skapa en god vårdrelation. I diskussionen knöts resultatet ihop med Paterson och Zderads (1988) omvårdnadsteori vilken betonar vikten av att få en bra relation i mötet.

Gjennom denne oppgaven vil leseren gjøres kjent med Ormen Lange landanlegg for produksjon av gass. I oppgaven presenteres bakgrunnsinformasjon for alle store hovedsystemer som inngår i forbindelse med oppstart av gassforedlingsprosessen. For at oppgaven skulle være gjennomførbar har en måtte begrense oppgaven til å kun omhandle sekvenser i hydrokarbonduggpunktssystemet. Kort oppsummert kan en si at oppgaven bygger på følgende problemstillinger:1. Kan en redusere tiden det tar å starte opp gassanlegget etter en produksjonsstans?2. Er det mulig å forenkle operatørens oppgaver i forbindelse med oppstart av anlegget?'Å finne svar på disse spørsmålene har skapt mye hodebry og utfordringer, men slik resultatet kan presenteres i dag vil kunnskapen kanskje kunne bidra til ny forståelse og innovative løsninger for fremtiden. I de eksisterende sekvensene som er laget for Ormen Lange, må en starte en produksjonslinje om gangen. Dette innebærer å starte resirkulasjon av gass for å få gassen innenfor salgsspesifikasjonene, samt å legge over til eksport når gassen oppnår disse spesifikasjonene. Når den første produksjonslinjen er lagt til eksport, vil en kunne starte neste produksjonslinje.I denne oppgaven skisseres en løsning som gjør det mulig å starte begge produksjonslinjer parallelt. Denne løsningen vil, med de antagelser gjort i oppgaven, kunne bidra til å redusere oppstartstiden med inntil 1 time. Dette oppnår en ved å synkronisere oppstarten til begge produksjonslinjer, samt at en fordeler gassgjennomstrømningen mellom linjene. Beregninger gjort av Aker Kværner viser at en i resirkulasjonslinjen kan ha en gassrate på 20MSm3/sd. Dette gjør det mulig å starte begge produksjonslinjer samtidig ved hjelp av Joule Thompson (JT), men ikke med Turbo Ekspander (TEX).Men en ønsket ikke bare å redusere oppstartstiden, det er også ønskelig å forenkle operatørens oppgaver. I første del av oppgaven gjennomføres design og implementasjon av sekvenser, med hovedfokus på å redusere oppstartstiden. For å rette fokus mot operatøren har det blitt gjennomført analyser av disse nye sekvensene. Dette er gjort for å kunne konkretisere hvilke tiltak som kan iverksettes for å bidra til å forenkle operatørens oppgaver.Løsningen som er valgt i oppgaven går ut på å samle alle operatørens oppgaver i første steg av sekvensene. Dette gjøres for at sekvensene ikke skal bli hengende og vente på operatørens bekreftelser eller aksjoner etter at sekvensene er startet. Ved at operatøren utfører alle aksjoner og bekreftelser i første steg, oppnår en at de øvrige stegene i sekvensene blir automatisert. Dette har vist seg svært nyttig, når en ønsker å benytte en hovedsekvens for å automatisk starte andre sekvenser. Da kan en legge alle operatørens oppgaver inn i hovedsekvensen, slik at sekvensene som kjøres fra hovedsekvensen ikke krever operatørens inngripen etter at de er startet.I den siste delen av oppgaven rettes fokus på kommunikasjonen mellom menneske og maskin. Det ble gjennomført en heuristisk evaluering av brukergrensesnittet og resultatet viser noen områder med forbedrings potensiale. Her kan det nevnes to hovedpunkter: tekstlige beskrivelser og operatørvarsling når sekvensene avventer operatørens inngripen. Oppgaven presenterer forslag til løsninger for begge disse problemene.

Анотація:

The article analyses the environmental problems created by the oil refining company AB "ORLEN Lietuva" – pollution of air, soil and water, and measures to reduce pollution are analysed. The general characteristics of the company and the research area are presented, the main oil refining processes are analysed, and hazardous chemicals are described. The methodology of air and soil sampling is presented in detail. The results of the conducted air, water and soil pollution tests showed that the air pollution did not exceed the limit values of the determined concentration, the wastewater treatment meets the requirements, and no cases of contamination were found. However, the concentration of heavy metals exceeded the background pollution in several soil areas. Keywords: environmental protection, oil refining, pollution, AB "ORLEN Lietuva".

El aparato judicial constituye un elemento crucial del Estado de derecho y del régimen democrático. Hace cerca de cuatro décadas, inició un proceso de reforma judicial que incluyó tanto el mejoramiento del recurso profesional como la eliminación de formas de control que afectaran la imparcialidad de los jueces. La democracia de América Latina se encuentra en un momento de desafección, lo cual también influye en el desempeño del Poder Judicial. El presente trabajo busca acercar el análisis a la situación de la justicia en cuatros países centroamericanos —Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala y Nicaragua— a partir de criterios como reformas institucionales, nombramientos, sentencias, valoraciones de organismos internacionales o de sociedad civil, etc. Reflexionar sobre la independencia judicial implica poner en perspectiva la calidad de los sistemas democráticos y evaluar las promesas de una reforma judicial para entender dónde se ubica la justicia y hacia dónde deberían dirigirse las nuevas agendas.

Las megacrecidas fluviales son episodios de una gran trascendencia geomorfológica por su alta capacidad energética y su muy baja frecuencia en el registro geológico. Su rareza es superior en áreas alejadas de las grandes masas glaciares continentales. Los problemas de desagüe de los desfiladeros del curso bajo del Ebro son la causa de la acumulación de depósitos fluviales con origen en el río Ebro que han remontado los valles de torrentes tributarios en la cubeta de Móra. El paradigma de estas formaciones es el torrente del Comte, donde dos unidades deposicionales de edad diferente muestran procesos de flujo torrente arriba, hasta unos 4 km, y reflujo torrente abajo, con estructuras sedimentarias de muy alta energía. El uso de herramientas de simulación hidráulica bidimensional indica que serían necesarios caudales punta superiores a los 100.000 m3 · s-1, con alturas de agua de unos 24 m en la zona de la confluencia, para introducir estos sedimentos a las posiciones de afloramiento. Los efectos se verían reforzados por la influencia de niveles del mar más elevados que el actual.

La agresión de Rusia contra Ucrania ha planteado una violación de las normas básicas del derecho internacional contemporáneo y representa una amenaza sin precedentes a un orden internacional basado en normas. Este trabajo analiza en primer lugar algunas de las normas y principios básicos de un orden internacional basado en normas que han sido violados por Rusia, partiendo de los argumentos utilizados por este país para justificar la agresión armada sobre Ucrania. A continuación, se considera cuál ha sido la respuesta de la comunidad internacional a esas violaciones del orden legal vigente, tanto a nivel institucional como estatal, incluyendo las acciones ante distintos foros y tribunales. Se describe brevemente el impacto de las acciones armadas rusas sobre el orden internacional. Finalmente, se examina la respuesta de América Latina a esta crisis, tomando en consideración factores meta jurídicos y de política exterior.

El diseño de la investigación parte de una pregunta adecuadamente formulada y delimitada que además corresponda a un problema real, no a un problema supuesto que el investigador ha creado para realizar un estudio. Seguidamente se formulan los objetivos, los cuales deben estar en concordancia con el título del estudio y la pregunta de investigación, los objetivos específicos deben derivarse del objetivo general y ser medibles. El diseño incluye la tipología del estudio, descriptiva, cuantitativa, cualitativa, mixta, correlacional, experimental, no experimental, cuasi experimental, histórica, documental, etc. La recolección de los datos y su respectivo procesamiento debe de ser acorde con la tipología del estudio definida en la metodología, es decir, si se definió que el estudio es descriptivo, se esperaría encontrar tablas de frecuencias, de contingencia, medidas de centralización, de dispersión, el coeficiente de desviación. Si el estudio es correlacional, se espera encontrar en el procesamiento, una prueba de correlación, unas hipótesis nula y alterna, con sus respectivas pruebas de hipótesis. Si se ha definido que el estudio es experimental, se espera que se haya definido una variable de control y las condiciones para ejecutar el experimento, etc. El estudio analizó 50 trabajos de grado en el campo de la administración y sus áreas afines, de tipología cuantitativa, se seleccionaron al azar y se observó la metodología planteada por los autores, se estudió el procesamiento estadístico de datos que usaron los autores. Este documento de trabajo, como su nombre lo indica, ofrece apuntes estadísticos para el procesamiento de los datos, en estudios cuantitativos, que sean consistentes con la tipología de la investigación cuantitativa.

Анотація:

Las espectaculares geodas de goethita tabular de la localidad de Tordelrábano (Provincia de Guadalajara) son de origen edáfico y se localizan en la parte alta de las facies Buntsandstein. Se tratan de unas geodas constituidas por unas envueltas carbonáticas y silíceas, en cuyo interior aparecen minerales férricos como el hematites y la goethita creciendo en forma tabular, inusual en este tipo de mineralizaciones. En este trabajo se ha realizado un estudio estratigráfico, para entender la formación de las geodas a partir de un encuadre geológico único y un estudio petrográfico para establecer un orden diagenético en la formación de estas. Para el estudio estratigráfico se ha levantado una columna estratigráfica en el afloramiento donde se encuadran las geodas. Se ha llevado a cabo un análisis microscópico a partir de una muestra recogida en campo a la que se le ha realizado una lámina delgada. Aplicándola técnicas de catodoluminiscencia con el fin de establecer un orden diagenético de la formación de los minerales constituyentes de las geodas.

Por segmentos del empleo nacional, el no asalariado, cuyo crecimiento se había frenado en el segundo trimestre por los efectos derivados de los picos de contagio por Covid-19 y de la situación de orden público en el país, volvió a crecer; mientras tanto, su contraparte asalariada se mantuvo estable.
