Tidigare forskning visar att organisationers långsiktiga överlevnad är beroende av dessa avvägningar, att leverera produkter med högt kundvärde är viktigt för dagens affär men får inte göras på bekostnad av att utforska möjligheter som kan resultera i framtida innovationer. Att strategiskt balansera dessa två perspektiv utgör en stor utmaning för alla organisationer eftersom att exekvering och utforskande aktiviteter kräver helt olika förutsättningar när det kommer till strukturer, processer och strategier. Företag som besitter förmågan att balansera dessa två helt olika perspektiv brukar refereras som tvehänta. Tvehänta organisationer har visat sig balansera dessa två perspektiv på olika sätt, vilka alla medför utmaningar, dock av olika slag. Tidigare forskning har betonat ledarskap och chefskap som viktiga faktorer i skapandet av tvehänta organisationer men har på grund av organisatoriska differentieringar och olikheter resulterat i vaga riktlinjer angående hur man praktiskt löser de utmaningar som uppstår mellan exekverande och utforskande aktiviteter. Scania, initiativtagare till detta arbete är ett av världens ledande tillverkare inom lastbil och buss för tunga transporter. Scania känner osäkerhet i vad som brukade vara en således stabil bransch. Ständiga förbättringar har varit en betydelsefull strategi i decennier för forskning och utveckling, FoU, men inför ett eventuellt teknikskifte inser man att en betydligt större del av arbetet måste syfta till utforskande aktiviteter. Syftet med detta examensarbete är att undersöka hur management kan möjliggöra och främja utforskande aktiviteter i en mogen FoU-avdelning. Den utförda forskningen grundar sig i en kvalitativ fallstudie som är avgränsad till en specifik FoUavdelning, chassiutveckling för lastbil. För att få en djupare förståelse för ledarskap och det ledarskapsansvar som finns i att främja och stödja utforskande aktiviteter kräver vissa organisatoriska förutsättningar har ett flertal avdelningar inom FoU-organisationen samt sälj & marknad inkluderats i studien. Den utförda forskningen visar att chefer på den undersökta avdelningen möter av ett flertal utmaningar när de försöker möjliggöra och främja utforskande aktiviteter. Повний текст джерела21st Century organizations encounter continuous change and are increasingly confronted with contradictory objectives. The public sector is no exception particularly in the context of new public management that results in public organizations implementing management principles originating from the private sector which lead to paradoxical outcomes. If paradox is one of the major forces constraining change at all levels of an organization, including both a psychological and action level, it can however according to Morgan (2007) be alternatively transformed into a major lever or catalyst for change. This research focuses on a case study of a public service organization confronting market pressure and examines the confrontation of two contrasting approaches, the first being one of long term objectives supported by a regime of subsidies, as opposed to a second approach consisting of short term objectives, that are self-financing and results orientated. After investigating the emergence and the dynamics of organizational paradoxes at critical periods in the evolution of the organization we focus on the transmission mechanisms and effects of conflicting tensions on the actors of the organization. We then suggest, through an action research approach, ways that enable organizations to take advantage of these conflicting tensions rather than suffer their dysfunctional effects

Повний текст джерелаIn this thesis, we discuss the contribution of current theories of thought in Palo Alto to tackle the transformation of situations of double bind within working organizations in order to improve the organizational learning development. After a presentation of the concepts of organizational learning and double bind our research process takes place in an interpretivist epistemology conducting by action research. We rely on three case studies accompanying individual and group leaders facing with difficulties in management.We underline how the theory of the double bind is a grid of intelligibility avoidance behavior. Considering them only as possibilities to behave in a situation where all other possibilities to act are blocked, we explain the interest of a paradigm shift in understanding of their training opportunities in order to renew intervention prospect.Acceptance of avoidance behavior as emerging from a double bind situation can address them as organizational dysfunction rather than as a consequence of individual failure. Perceptions of double bind appear when unable metacommunication is felt, about a paradox requiring an impossible choice, in a professional context inconceivable to escape from.Our main contribution is to show, through a literature review and three case studies, the strengths and limitations of the interactional approach of Palo Alto, which, although it is known in the world management remains largely unimplemented in organizations. We position the metacommunication process by a third party involved in the service changes. We point out the role he may have to help them move from a vicious to a virtuous circle, in a managerial situation, and leverage in the transformation of a dynamic organizational learning defensive into a dynamic leading to progress

Повний текст джерелаThe changes in the strategical environment have resulted in the government giving the Swedish defense forces a new national alignment, towards the capability of national defense. The purpose of this study is to build understanding of the conditions for platoon level leadership in the new national defense and to develop knowledge of the conditions the platoon commanders have been given to meet the demands by the new national defense. The research has been carried out by an inductive quantitative case study design with a hermeneutic approach. The empirical data is based on twelve interviews with platoon leaders and a study of official defense force documents. The research shows that the role of the platoon leader is characterized by balancing the role as commander and the role of administrator, were the administration weighs over on the expense of the capability of warfare and leadership. The platoon commander’s perception of the demands of the national defense complies with official defense force documents, but the absence of a clear compilation of the demands leads to some uncertainty. The platoon commander’s conditions to fulfill the demands of the new national defense is determined by their ability to balance tasks and available resources. This in turn is due to absence of administrative support and command. The research has identified a contradiction between two simultaneously ongoing organizational changes. The phenomenon that we have chosen to call the paradox change, contains one role-orientated change towards the commander as an administrator and one character-oriented change towards combat commander in the new national defense.

The complexity and observable paradoxical attitudes, make attacks and often unconscious defenses, leads him to propose a systemic approach of the persons management and precise the french semantic contours. Choosing a department of Electricité de France as place of enquiry, it will make successively a fifty of intensive interviews to surround the managerial fact and specify after seven complementary interviews the collected orientations. Connecting with our mythological roots, he will examine: - Ulysses, for its management "by the task", - Prometheus and its style praxeological leading that aims all control around of him, - Hermes whose pragmatic style is linked to the communication. Three possible models professing each a type of management. The manager ideal could be constituted their synthesis whose "compagnonnage" is a modern illustration still linked to a lioving tradition. The transposition in the enterprise, constants thus discovered, pass by the volontary of the candidate-manager, the possession of actual "dispositions" and a favorable professional context. Повний текст джерелаHox and ParaHox genes encode homeodomain transcription factors involved in the development of eumetazoan. In this thesis, I characterized their genomic organization, their transcriptomic and their in situ expression in the dogfish, in order to better understand the evolution of these genes in gnathostomes. The first part presents the identification and genomic organization of HoxA, B, D genes and suggests that the C cluster was lost in the dogfish. Placed in a phylogenetic context, these results reveal a strong structural conservation of these genes in gnathostomes. In a second part, the analysis of five expression libraries, from sequences of 225 580 ESTs allowed us to characterize the transcription of the three Hox clusters. Our approach shows a strong complexity of transcription of these loci in the dogfish: many alternative transcripts, sharing of non-coding exon by several Hox genes, and for the first time in a vertebrate species, the presence of a chimeric transcript of two Hox genes (Hoxb9-Hoxb10). The identification of conserved non coding elements (CNEs) from several species has also allowed highlighting homologies position between very divergent non-coding exons, located in 5'UTR. The third and fourth parts of this work show the expression patterns of the 36Hox genes and the 6 ParaHox genes in the dogfish. Their transcription was determined along the anteroposterior axis during development and allowed us to identify areas of expression common to all gnathostomes and particularities of each lineage

Повний текст джерелаThe university today can no longer be content with adjusting its missions to current developpements : it has to radically change the way it meets them. While demands from streamlining and rationalizing are still spelled out by political instances, both the spirit behind them and the way they are formulated come from the world of economy. From now on the university must define itself, and account for the quality of its products on the international market of science, as a private company would. The present dissertation shows to what extent this process is indeed part of a capitalist ideology as formalized by Luc Boltanski and Eve Chiapello in "Le Nouvel esprit du capitalisme". As shown all though, paradoxes are central to the world of academe because of the several contradictions and tensions that are as many rifts in university research, for instance that between 'hard' and 'soft' sciences, or between fundamental and apllied research. These paradoxes testify to the complexity which characterizes the university and which somehow constitutes it. In this perspective paradoxes are their own justification in that they make it possible for the university to change without any calling for any sudden break with the past or revolutionary upheaval. The present study also shows how a rationalizing of the university along the lines defined by a capitalist economy leads to the emergence of a new paradoxes and it explores their significance. Its major aim is to understand the grammar of change that is at work in the discourse developed within and on the university. Through the observation of one specific case we see how changes are implemented inside a university, how they are perceived and what kind of response they prompt. It also strives to go beyond local particularities and to bring out those elements that can apply to the university world at large

Повний текст джерела"We see computers everywhere but in economic statistics". In 1987, in a New York times paper, Robert Solow sum up in a single sentence a paradoxical situation where coexist, in developed countries from the seventies, a slowdown in productivity gains and an acceleration of technical progress notably concerning information technologies (IT). The aim of the dissertation is to give some elements of explanation to the productivity paradox. In a first part, the reality of the paradox is established. First, technological change is a crucial determinant of productivity gains dynamics. Second, the slowdown in productivity gains is a real phenomenom which stays widely unexplained and the rythm of technological advances in it is impressing. Third, as pointed by solow, we can see computers in every business firms even though the scope and patterns of diffusion are very unequal among nations, sectors, firms and application fields. Fourth, it is not possible to establish a clear relationship between it investments and economic performances, whatever level of analysis. In a second part, an explanation to the productivity paradox is advanced. The phenomenon is explained by 1) time-consuming diffusion processes of information-based technologies, 2) rather persistent mismatches between different knowledge bases and types of capital equipment, and 3) rather slow co-evolutionary mechanisms between the potential opportunities which radically new technologies and new organisational patterns provide, on the one hand, and organisational arrangements which business firms and collective institutions are able to develop, on the other. A simulation model of diffusion highlights the generality of technology-related "retardation mechanisms". Conversely, a qualitative discussion of organisational dynamics further adds to the general point that the full impact of potentially superior technologies is likely to be exploited by any economic system only after a good deal of painstaking adjustment within and among different business organisations and broader institutions

It is vital for companies that are in fast-changing industries to act quickly and efficiently to stay at the forefront of their specific area. Purpose: This study intends to form an understanding of how the relationship between stability and change occurs in an innovative company, which work within a rapidly changing environment. Furthermore, the study intends to contribute deeper insights into the balance between organizational stability and short-term innovation processes as well as employees' views on this balance. Method: The study has embraced a qualitative approach where empirical gathering was conducted through twelve interviews with employees at different levels within the investigated organization. Conclusion: The study shows that the surveyed organization maintains stability through work based on routines, experiences and habits. Differences can be found in how employees perceive the relationship between stability and change, with different perspectives at management level and employee level.

Повний текст джерелаDuring my career in the Royal Swedish Air Force I have served in several different positions,amongst them I can mention the ones as weapons controller and fighter allocater.During the recent years, I have through the reading of different books and discussionswith my colleagues, encountered the opinion that self-synchronised organisationswould be the ultimate goal when organising Network Centric Warfare. My own experiencewas that this was the last option used after everything else had failed. In Swedishlitterateur regarding Network Centric Warfare, you can see the expression of a will to beable to change command philosophy from centralised command to a decentralised anddelegated (Auftragstaktik) command. In this essay I have examined the effectiveness oftwo different organisations, the first one more like a classic hierarchic organisationcomplemented with rules regarding responsibilities for each participant. The participantsin the second organisation only got a role and then had to fulfil this role drawingon their previous experience from working in the Air Force. The participants were allAir Force officers and each one of them could only participate in one of the organisations.The organisations were then tasked to carry out counter air operations in a simulator.Their only mission during the simulations was to protect the city of Stockholm. Inthe simulation the participants met a pre-recorded adversary, for the elimination of atarget the organisations were awarded points. The target heading towards Stockholmearned each organisation more points then other targets. The accumulated points thengave a rating for their effectiveness. The result was then analysed with the help of theoriesregarding what is needed for organisational success and theories regarding networkorganisations. The conclusions clearly state that the organisation with the rules achieveda better result, especially when the technical conditions degenerated. This organisationeven succeeded to improve their result with degraded technical conditions, the otherorganisation got a lower result during the same circumstances. One of the main reasonsthe organisation who had to rely on their previous experience from the Air Force nevergot up to the same standard as the other organisation, was due to the fact that they hadto spend more time to get them selves organised. Furthermore my examination showsthat networks are very complex and hard to overlook for an individual person. Thisleads to problems when you want to communicate in the network and also severe problemswhen it comes to optimizing the efficiency of the network.

Повний текст джерелаAt a time when companies, faced with many upheavals, are more than ever in search of performance, and when employees, denouncing working conditions and managerial practices, have never been so demanding of well-being at work, reconciling employee well-being and company performance is a topical issue and a strategic challenge for companies.The literature review and the results of an exploratory qualitative analysis conducted using semi-directive interviews with 55 employees of the RESSIF group (Réseau des Services Sociaux Interentreprises de France) lead us to consider "well-being at work" and "company performance" in terms of paradoxical meta-perspective and to propose ways to resolve this organizational paradox.To do this, we conducted two quantitative studies. The first study is based on 5300 observations from the working conditions survey of the French Ministry of Labor. The second is based on the answers of 270 companies to an online questionnaire on human resources management practices.Finally, our empirical results conclude that the factors that make it possible to reconcile well-being at work and company performance are, among working conditions, the fight against work intensity and unsustainability and, among human resources practices, the development of employee participation in company decisions, training, promotions and career perspectives and, to a lesser extent, performance evaluation.To conclude this work, theoretical, methodological and managerial contributions are presented, as well as future research paths

Based on socio-anthropogical research in the provinces of Kadiogo and Gournla, a complex social , dynamics in which Burkinabe women producers are, is questioned. In this local arena, various processes and ( systems which have contributed to the emergence of female organizations manufacturing shea butter in accordance with international markets requirements and constraints, are contextualized. Then, various organization levels (groups, unions, associations) that allow women access to a new socio-professional status and the improvement of their economic living conditions are identified. Hence, the research shows that the women' s commitment and participation in those co-operatives do not at the end produce the desired results. Their best skills or quality production in shea butter is denied. Hence, their improvement in terms of poverty eradication and socio-economic equity become unattainable

Повний текст джерелаThis thesis aims to examine the issues and modalities of building a political majority in Russia from the 2000s, after a decade marked by the weakness of the Central Executive and party system fragmentation. Created in 2001 to support Vladimir Putin, the situation of the political party United Russia in the political landscape may seem paradoxical. Dominant at all levels of power since 2003, it still remains a tool in the hands of leaders of the Executive, without any real autonomy or influence. United Russia, including officially 2 million members, is not rooted in Russian society and has very few militants. The analysis of the tension between the dynamics of the party’s institutionalization and, at the same time, its maintaining under control of the State appears as a privileged entry point for analyzing, in a comparative perspective, the production of mechanisms of subjections of Russian elected officials. This implies to study the establishment of United Russia and its concrete functioning, the practices of the actors involved in these activities and the meaning they give to these practices. Thus this approach suggests to show how the study of this specific process of party construction is likely to feed a more general and comparative reflection on how the dynamics of differentiation or reconciliation between parties and the State contribute to produce various forms of political investments. For this purpose, studying the party as an institution as well as the comparative historical sociology can show the tensions created by the process of differentiation under the control of United Russia and also how it supports the establishment of new domination mechanisms

Повний текст джерелаOpen Source appeared in the software industry in the early 1980s under the name “free software” (Von Hippel, 2001). It is now widely used by all digital infrastructures and companies outside the software industry have recently started showing an interest in this subject. Open Source is an extreme form of Open Innovation (Chesbrough, 2003, 2006, 2017) that creates relations between organizations and external communities around Open Source projects (Von Hippel & Von Krogh, 2003) and leads to new forms of organizations and business models. Organizational Open Source adoption can be assessed with two axes, one for Using Open Source methods, tools and components, and one for community involvement. Organizations face opening dilemmas and under-estimate the importance of community involvement and of open value proposition in their business model performance. We focus on organizations that use and/or offer Open Source solutions. The main goal of our research is to study why and with which consequences organizations adopt Open Source as an innovation path. We show that conceiving opening dilemmas in terms of paradoxes facilitates finding virtuous ways for development and performance (Lauritzen & Karafyllia, 2019; Smith & Lewis, 2011). We use the RCOV framework (Demil & Lecocq, 2010; Warnier, Lecocq, & Demil, 2012) to analyze these business models. Our research design integrates two approaches. (1) A first qualitative approach is based on 25 interviews with experts from the academic and business worlds. It allows us to explore and improve the conceptual panoramas of the main determinants and facilitators for the adoption of Open Source practices by software and industrial organizations. (2) A second quantitative approach is based on a sample of 307 managers and business leaders. The study is conducted with and for the CNLL, Syntec-Numérique and Systematic-Paris-Region in 2017. The study uses structural equation modeling and allows us to identify the determinants and consequences of the use of Open Source. In particular, we show that, depending on the type of business model, the facets of community involvement do not have the same impact on the perceived performance of organizations. In all cases, the formalized type of involvement that is most chosen by organizations is less effective than other forms of involvement

They hope to find in the so-called "hybrid organizations" combining market activity and social mission a framework for aligning their values and their profession. However, the divergent logics at work in these organizations tend to subject them to significant tensions, amplified or attenuated by the organizational context. We explore the responses to these tensions and the organizational practices that can support these workers. We identify how the individual gives meaning to persistent contradictions through storytelling. We demonstrate the organizational support made possible by the provision of CSR standards. We test the impact of personal social engagement on satisfaction with CSR and the intention to "blow the whistle" in case of perceived ethical drift, compared to other antecedents

As this apparatus is located in a professional context, the research also reinterprets the notion of activity in the light of the representation of the enterprise social network as a new collaborative and knowledge management tool. In order to observe and understand the interactions that take place between the various elements of this apparatus, a plural methodology, essentially qualitative, has been put in place. This enabled to collect, examine and reconcile at the same time publications, interviews (individual and collective) and screen writings, by a discursive and semiotic analysis. Because one of the peculiarities of this apparatus is that it seems to convey a certain number of contradictions, even to cause pragmatic paradoxes, in particular because its principal mechanism rests on a permanent visibility

Understanding the territorial phenomena requires to identify the mechanisms of this construction.
