Повний текст джерелаIn plastic injection, the mold must be designed to increase the heat fluxes leading to the cooling time. Firstly, this work is focused on the heat exchange between the mold and the cooling fluid. A technical solution is proposed to reduce the sub-layer which indues a heat fluxes limitation. Experimental results and numeric simulations show that exchange is increased about 7%. Next, the influence of 4 process parameters is studied on the polymeric material (characterized by means of shrinkage and hardness measurements) and on the gloss and roughness of injected parts surface. Results lead to a main effect of injection temperature and velocity. These effects on the material are linked with the cristallinity promoted by the injection temperature. The main effect on the surface is explained by the evolution of the polymer viscosity during the injection phase. Globally, it seems to be important to take into account the different physical phenomena in the cycle rime optimization by modifying the injection parameters

Повний текст джерела2.5D printing is between traditional color printing, for the process and its visual quality, and 3D printing, which makes forms and reliefs by ink superposition. Because of its properties, 2.5D printing could allow the realistic reproduction of objects and surfaces, but inks are too glossy. To reduce and control this glossy aspect of inks, we modulate the roughness of the printed layers, at the micro-scale, both in frequency and amplitude. Influence of parameters was measured, and different strategies were suggested to reduce sparkle and to allow the creation of matte colored layers: by constituting a 5D space where gloss and color are modeled, we can make gloss level of colored surfaces uniform.Several case studies form the Conservation of Cultural Heritage were considered, where 2.5D printing could help the curator, the conservator or the archivist. We studied in particular the issues of the the gap filling on an archaeological object, the realistic reproduction of surfaces, and the creation of matte objects for readability

Повний текст джерелаIn the current study, surface generation during additive manufacturing (AM), especially the laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) process was studied. LPBF is a progressive process that can lead to new opportunities, such as applications that require complex structures (internal channels or lightweight lattice structures). It has therefore attracted considerable attention, which has led to research and development in many industries, particularly in the aerospace industry.A surface generation study to optimize surface roughness and material density by examining the influence of the primary LPBF process parameters was therefore performed. During this study, the relationship between the roughness of the top and side surfaces and the density of the material was established. This made it possible to determine the first window of optimal parameters.An analysis of the roughness dispersion and process reproducibility were then carried out. This analysis revealed a significant roughness dispersion, especially from one side to the other. As a result, recommendations on surface measurements have been proposed.The effect of different process options (secondary parameters) are also studied in order to better understand the generation of the side surface and optimize it. This study showed that compensations and contour settings are key parameters that can help reduce the side surface roughness. Indeed, the geometric positioning of the different weld tracks is an important issue that must be addressed to reduce surface roughness. Based on the results of this study, it is possible to reduce the average surface roughness Sa from 40 to 10 μm.Finally, this thesis presents a new approach to modeling side surfaces roughness (at 0°). The approach is based on the weld track geometry (radii of curvature). It allows to take into account the weld tracks and layers position in relation to each other and thus to predict the roughness for different scanning strategies, compensation parameters

Повний текст джерелаWe present new experimental results and, as well analytical as numerical modelling of free surface flows developing on a bottom with transverse gradient of roughness. This gradient, with the anisotropy of turbulence, is at the origin of secondary flows. We determined the transverse evolution of the mean velocity and of the Reynolds tensor components, using a laser Doppler anemometer. Then we obtained the transverse distribution of the wall shear stress, the origin of the logarithmic law and the roughness function. The interpretation of the evolution of the vertical profiles of longitudinal and vertical fluctuations is based on analytical solutions obtained from an algebraic stress model. These solutions are established in the wall zone or in the vicinity of the free surface. Numerical simulations of parallel and non-parallel flows are then discussed. The first results are promising although improvements could be introduced in order to better take into account the interactions close to the free surface and the side-wall

These numbers will continue toincrease in order to address the customers’ exponentially increasing need for mobile data. This is an illustrationof the challenge faced by the mobile operators for operating such a complex network with low OperationalExpenditures (OPEX) in order to stay competitive. This thesis is about leveraging the Self-Organizing Network(SON) concept to reduce this complexity by automating repetitive or complex tasks. We specifically proposeautomatic optimization algorithms for scenarios related to network densification using either small cells orActive Antenna Systems (AASs) used for Vertical Sectorization (VeSn), Virtual Sectorization (ViSn) and multilevelbeamforming. Problems such as load balancing with limited-capacity backhaul and interference coordination eitherin time-domain (eICIC) or in frequency-domain are tackled. We also propose optimal activation algorithms forVeSn and ViSn when their activation is not always beneficial. We make use of results from stochastic approximationand convex optimization for the mathematical formulation of the problems and their solutions. We also proposea generic methodology for the coordination of multiple SON algorithms running in parallel using results fromconcave game theory and Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI)-constrained optimization

Autobodies steel sheets surfaces are endowed with multiscale nature and three roughness scales families can be identified on them. Namely there exist the form, the waviness and the roughness representing respectively the high, the medium and the very small wavelengths of scales. We can emphasize on the waviness because it represents a very important family influencing much the paint appearance. This family is both created by the product and the paint processes of the steel sheets. The aim of this work is to make a local analysis of the different scales existing and to correlate with the paint appearance. The second objective is to create a new scale criterion in order to define some model surfaces giving the best paint appearance. To reach this objective it is necessary to find the paint signature. Finally this work is equivalent of seeking "ideal surface"

Повний текст джерелаThe aim of this PhD work is to develop physical models aiming at simulating particulate fouling (i. E. The accumulation of inorganic colloidal particles on surfaces) in turbulent flows in the framework of stochastic Lagrangian methods. In the first part, a new model for the calculation of particle-surface interactions including the effects of surface roughness is presented. This model is first validated on simple test-cases and the influence of surface roughness on the overall interaction is analysed. This model is then coupled with a model for particle transport in a turbulent flow. Numerical results obtained for particle deposition are found to be in line with measurements. The second part of this work is devoted to the extension of the particle-surface interaction model for the calculation of adhesion forces, accounting for both surface roughness and electrostatic forces. Numerical predictions are in good agreement with experimental data on adhesion forces. Furthermore, this model is coupled with a model for particle resuspension and numerical results obtained are shown to compare well with some available experiments. In the third part of this work, the particle deposition model is extended to simulate the accumulation of particles on a surface through the introduction of particle-particle interactions in the particle-surface interaction. Numerical results are in qualitative agreement with available experimental data, and highlight the ability of the model to reproduce a complete blockage. This study underlines the necessity to account for the coupling between particle-fluid, particle-surface and particle-particle interactions to simulate particulate fouling

Повний текст джерелаA new approach for modelling elastoplastic contacts is presented. It is based on a boundary integral formulation. The overall problem is divided into two parts. One part is related to contact conditions and corresponds to the equivalent elastic solution. The other part is related to the plastic flow rule and corresponds to the solution after an elastic unloading. Contacting bodies are assimilated to two half planes, and each part of the problem is solved using a semi-analytical method. The overall solution is obtained using an iterative process. This model is used for the study of rough contacts, where high pressures over asperities may lead to an elastic material behaviour. The small extent of plastic zones, together with material work hardening (bearing steel has been considered) lead to a small decrease in pressure peaks, and fatigue is expected to take place. A simplified fatigue life mode[ is applied. It shows the influence of both roughness and load on the extent of damage volume. These results are in good qualitative agreement with experimental evidences

Повний текст джерелаThe work completed in this thesis consists in studying the feasibility of a system allowing the extraction of the relief and the characterization of the roughness of a surface by image processing. The control of the photometric stereovision techniques allows to me to propose an improvement of relief extraction results by exploitation of the generalized Lambertian. Its use allows to me to obtain good results of relief extraction of rough textured surfaces. The extracted cartographies are compared with laser ones. The relief extraction by image processing allows a significant profit in times of measurement. Moreover, I could show that to obtain a better characterization of roughness, a combination of a geometrical criterion with another frequential would b e necessary. The first allows to estimate the angularity of the aggregates whereas the second allows to estimate the density of these aggregates

Повний текст джерелаWe study the scattering of an electromagnetic field by one rough surface or by a stack of two rough surfaces ; our aim is to solve exactly this problem, by means of numerical methods. We consider the case of monodimensional surfaces separating homogeneous media and we deal with integral methods. The integral equations are reduced to a linear system using the method of moments. For the case of a single surface, in order to solve efficiently this system, we study and implement several recent fast methods. For the case of two surfaces, we develop a fast method, able to solve huge problems. The established equation involves a matrix which is characteristic of the layer. An iterative solution is obtained by a series expansion, leading to an exact result when a validity condition is fulfilled. The iterates of the method can be seen as the contributions of multi-scattered fields, successively reflected inside the layer. Our method is validated by comparison to results from literature

Повний текст джерелаThe phenomenon known as meandering describes the unsteady trajectory variations of the wake of a wind turbine. This phenomenon is responsible for specific mechanical stresses on turbines positioned in the wake of other turbines. As such, this phenomenon must be accounted for in the design and operation of wind turbine plants.This work uses numerical fluid simulation and wind tunnel testing in order to study the meandering of the wake of a wind turbine. The subject is discussed in two parts. The first part discusses the modeling of the atmospheric boundary layer, with a focus on the large scales of the atmospheric turbulence. The second part is a study of the behavior of the wake of an actuator disc model in atmospheric wind conditions.Both parts include experimental and numerical work. The numerical simulation of the atmospheric boundary layer involves the generation of synthetic turbulent velocity time series by mean of a stochastic technique developed during this thesis, to which a chapter is dedicated.One of the main results of this work is that the meandering is highly correlated with the large scales of the atmospheric turbulence

Повний текст джерелаThis Master's Thesis is built around the concept of fleet management, focusing on designing and implementing a solution for such a purpose. As a target domain for this proposed system snow clearing has been chosen, and it is presented as background for the system realisation. An important feature in a fleet management system is route optimisation. Estimations based on real-world data can be used to construct more effective routes. This optimisation process is not straightforward though, as it belongs in a domain called Vehicle Routing Problems. These problems effectively becomes unsolvable for realisticly sized datasets using traditional optimisation methods, and the reasons behind this and alternative solution approaches are presented in this text. Enhanced fleet monitoring is another target for a fleet management system, and this requires modern localisation technology. To continuously be aware of every unit's position, an accurate tracking mechanism is necessary. Such mechanisms are also presented, focusing mainly on the Global Positioning System (GPS). To create the actual solution, a thorough design phase was necessary. The results of this process, including a requirement specification, a design model and a test plan, are included in this report. Based on the design phase parts of the system have been implemented, such as the graphical user interfaces and communication. The main focus of the implemetation has been on the optimisation process though, and several approaches have been tested. All implentation results, including testing results based on the test plan, can be found in this report. To offer operators a clear view of the positions of the fleet's units, a part of the system will need to work as a geographical information system. This functionality has not been implemented, but its requirements are discussed as well. To add a market perspective to this thesis a business model for a company developing the proposed solution is presented, along with a view on how the solution may affect the business model of companies that implement it into their operations. The last part of the report presents a discussion around the proposed solution. This discussion focuses on the qualities and shortcomings of the solution, how it compares to already existing solutions in the market, and what future work is necessary for the system to be completed.

To verify dimensions, metrology has to be improved to be able to provide reliable and repeatable analysis. This work focuses first on manufacturing process samples. Deposition techniques, photolithography and etching are introduced. These techniques require metrology tools adapted for in-line monitoring. Metrology equipments introduced in this thesis highlight the application of imaging techniques such as scanning electron microscopy or transmission and inversion techniques such as ellipsometry and scatterometry. The third chapter is dedicated to the application of these techniques to monitoring production. Thin films inspected are generally innovative layers. The last part is focused on methods for roughness characterization by light scattering on periodic gratings

Many studies are ongoing to understand the interactions between the surface morphology and the physical mechanisms, chemical or mechanical. A key aspect that still needs improvement is the accurate characterization of surfaces, according to areas and needs, especially when it cornes to extracting the most relevant parameters for characterizing surface and define the level most appropriate for it. The aim of this project is to construct a methodology for processing bidimensional parameters (profiling) which allows, using an expert system to give the user the parameter of surface state associated with optimal desired functionality. We present in this paper the philosophy and methodology of building the system architecture that we called "MesRug". We also explain the technology used for the realization of this system, how to use it and enrich it with new multi-scale characterization of surfaces and new roughness parameters. We also present some developments and analyzes multi-scale integrated into the system "MesRug" to determine the characteristics of a set of elements (scale of measurement, parameter, lifter, to better discriminate the desired property, statistical methods used to determine the relevance of roughness parameters, and applications for various studies conducted using this approach
