The high level of robustness and reliability required in industrial environments can be achieved using time-slotted channel hopping (TSCH) medium access control (MAC) specified in institute of electrical and electronics engineers (IEEE) 802.15.4. Using frequency channel hopping in the existing TSCH network, a parallel rendezvous technique is used to exchange packets containing channel information before network synchronization, thereby facilitating fast network synchronization. In this study, we propose a distributed radio listening (DRL)–TSCH technique that uses a two-way transmission strategy based on the parallel rendezvous technique to divide the listening channel by sharing the channel information between nodes before synchronization. The performance evaluation was conducted using the OpenWSN stack, and the actual experiment was carried out by utilizing the OpenMote-cc2538 module. The time taken for synchronization and the number of rendezvous packets transmitted were measured in linear and mesh topologies, and the amount of energy used was evaluated. The performance results demonstrate a maximum average reduction in synchronization time of 67% and a reduction in energy consumption of 58% when compared to the performance results of other techniques.

We report the first time-synchronized protocol stack running on a crystal-free device. We use an early prototype of the Single-Chip micro Mote, SCμM, a single-chip 2 × 3 mm2 mote-on-a-chip, which features an ARM Cortex-M0 micro-controller and an IEEE802.15.4 radio. This prototype consists of an FPGA version of the micro-controller, connected to the SCμM chip which implements the radio front-end. We port OpenWSN, a reference implementation of a synchronized protocol stack, onto SCμM. The challenge is that SCμM has only on-chip oscillators, with no absolute time reference such as a crystal. We use two calibration steps – receiving packets via the on-chip optical receiver and RF transceiver – to initially calibrate the oscillators on SCμM so that it can send frames to an off-the-shelf IEEE802.15.4 radio. We then use a digital trimming compensation algorithm based on tick skipping to turn a 567 ppm apparent drift into a 10 ppm drift. This allows us to run a full-featured standards-compliant 6TiSCH network between one SCμM and one OpenMote. This is a step towards realizing the smart dust vision of ultra-small and cheap ubiquitous wireless devices.

The architectural design of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications requires the careful planning and selection of an appropriate operational strategy. Harmonization of standards is crucial to ensure easier certification and commercialization of IIoT solutions. The ongoing research activities are directed toward designing agile, reliable, and secure transmission technologies and protocols. Recently, Time Slotted Channel Hopping (TSCH) standardization bodies have started to consider support for multiple physical layers thus accommodating a wide range of applications. This paper presents the results of the extensive experimental measurement campaign to study the performance of the 6TiSCH (IPv6 over the TSCH mode of IEEE 802.15.4e) network while supporting multiple physical layers (PHYs). For measurement purposes, all experiments were performed on OpenMote-B hardware. These devices are equipped with an Atmel AT86RF215 dual radio transceiver implementing IEEE 802.15.4g. The performance evaluation is provided for the following metrics: network formation time, Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), latency, and duty cycle. Results are encouraging, particularly in terms of high PDR for all tested PHYs. Performance evaluation indicates the importance of proper node positioning, link quality estimation and careful selection of network parameters. Moreover, collected experimental results create a dataset that provides insights into the tested PHYs' performance and their potential for indoor 6TiSCH networking.

With the diversification of industrial Internet of Things applications, there is a growing demand for mobility support in industrial wireless networking environments. However, the routing protocol for low-power and lossy networks is designed based on a static environment and is vulnerable in a mobility environment. Routing protocol for low-power and lossy networks is an Internet engineering task force standard in the low-power and lossy network environments used mainly in industrial environments. In addition, although routing protocol for low-power and lossy networks is based on collection tree protocol and is suitable for data collection and upward traffic transmission, it struggles with downward traffic transmission in terms of control, actuation, and end-to-end transmission. In this article, the problems caused by mobile nodes in routing protocol for low-power and lossy networks are discussed, and a retransmission scheme named IM-RPL is proposed. This retransmission scheme can improve the performance of downward traffic for the mobile nodes by retransmitting the packets to the neighbor nodes, the mobile node’s new parent sets, and relaying them to the mobile node. Its performance is evaluated through an experiment. The results demonstrate that using OpenMote in OpenWSN’s time slotted channel hopping induces a packet reception ratio improvement and a lower transmission delay as compared to standard routing protocol for low power and lossy.

This paper presents a thorough comparison of the Transport Layer Security (TLS) v1.2 and Datagram TLS (DTLS) v1.2 handshake in 6TiSCH networks. TLS and DTLS play a crucial role in protecting daily Internet traffic, while 6TiSCH is a major low-power link layer technology for the IoT. In recent years, DTLS has been the de-facto security protocol to protect IoT application traffic, mainly because it runs over lightweight, unreliable transport protocols, i.e., UDP. However, unlike the DTLS record layer, the handshake requires reliable message delivery. It, therefore, incorporates sequence numbers, a retransmission timer, and a fragmentation algorithm. Our goal is to study how well these mechanisms perform, in the constrained setting of 6TiSCH, compared to TCP’s reliability algorithms, relied upon by TLS. We port the mbedTLS library to OpenWSN, a 6TiSCH reference implementation, and deploy the code on the state-of-the-art OpenMote platform. We show that, when the peers use an ideal channel, the DTLS handshake uses up to 800 less and completes 0.6 s faster. Nonetheless, using an unreliable communication link, the DTLS handshake duration suffers a performance penalty of roughly 45%, while TLS’ handshake duration degrades by merely 15%. Similarly, the number of exchanged bytes doubles for DTLS while for TLS the increase is limited to 15%. The results indicate that IoT product developers should account for network characteristics when selecting a security protocol. Neglecting to do so can negatively impact the battery lifetime of the entire constrained network.

We propose Strength of Crowd (SoC), a distributed Internet of Things (IoT) protocol that guarantees message broadcast from an initiator to all network nodes in the presence of either a reactive or a proactive jammer, that targets a variable portion of the radio spectrum. SoC exploits a simple, yet innovative and effective idea: nodes not (currently) involved in the broadcast process transmit decoy messages that cannot be distinguished (by the jammer) from the real ones. Therefore, the jammer has to implement a best-effort strategy to jam all the concurrent communications up to its frequency/energy budget. SoC exploits the inherent parallelism that stems from the massive deployments of IoT nodes to guarantee a high number of concurrent communications, exhausting the jammer capabilities and hence leaving a subset of the communications not jammed. It is worth noting that SoC could be adopted in several wireless scenarios; however, we focus on its application to the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) domain, including IoT, Machine-to-Machine (M2M), Device-to-Device (D2D), to name a few. In this framework, we provide several contributions: firstly, we show the details of the SoC protocol, as well as its integration with the IEEE 802.15.4-2015 MAC protocol; secondly, we study the broadcast delay to deliver the message to all the nodes in the network; and finally, we run an extensive simulation and experimental campaign to test our solution. We consider the state-of-the-art OpenMote-B experimental platform, adopting the OpenWSN open-source protocol stack. Experimental results confirm the quality and viability of our solution.

This paper presents a study on an accurate soil moisture monitoring system based on its humidity from 9 sensor nodes using wireless sensor network (WSN) and M2M platform. The system used IEEE 802.15.4 (Zigbee) protocol. The system was connected to the application via the OpenMTC M2M platform. This monitoring system can measure soil moisture accurately and provide soil water content status on the application. The system was effective in measuring soil moisture at a distance of 0-25 meters where there was a barrier between gateway and sensor, and at a distance of 0-50 meter in line of sight. The position of the sensors that are within 3 meters of each other and the depth of each sensor 3 cm can measure soil moisture properly.

Abstrak Motivasi merupakan dorongan yang mengakibatkan seseorang melakukan tindakan yang dapat berasal dari dalam diri (intrinsik) dan luar/lingkungan (ekstrinsik). Motivasi belajar dapat memengaruhi hasil belajar siswa, baik dari segi kognitif/pengetahuan, minat membaca, persepsi, dan Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengukur effect size artikel penelitian tentang hubungan antara motivasi dan hasil belajar siswa IPA. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah metaanalisis menggunakan instrumen lembar tabulasi data dan dianalisis menggunakan software openMEE. Artikel yang dipilih berjumlah 20 dengan rentang publikasi tahun 2016-2021. Rata-rata effect size yang diperoleh dari masing-masing artikel adalah tinggi (efek besar) sehingga diinterpretasikan bahwa terdapat korelasi yang signifikan antara variabel motivasi dan hasil belajar siswa IPA. Hasil penelitian dapat memberikan acuan bagi guru bahwa motivasi sangat penting diberikan kepada siswa selama proses pembelajaran berlangsung. AbstractMotivation is an impulse that causes a person to take actions that can come from within (intrinsic) and outside/environmentally (extrinsic). Learning motivation can affect student learning outcomes, both in terms of cognitive/knowledge, reading interest, perception, and Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge. This research aimed to measure the effect size of research articles on the relationship between motivation and learning outcomes of science students. The type of research used was meta-analysis using data tabulation sheet instruments and analyzed using openMEE software. The selected articles were 20 with a publication range of 2016-2021. The average effect size obtained from each article was high (large effect) so it is interpreted that there was a significant correlation between motivational variables and science student learning outcomes. The results of the research can provide a reference for teachers that motivation is very important given to students during the learning process.

Many research findings have determined the platelet distribution width (PDW) in preeclampsia; no published meta-analysis existed. The aim of this review is to evaluate the reported PDW differences in preeclamptic women compared to healthy pregnant women. A Scopus, Pubmed-NCBI, ScienceDirect-open access and Google scholar Database were searched for a period of Jan 2010 to Apr 2020. OpenMeta Analyst software was used to compute the pooled Meta-logistic regression. A 13 study were included; with a total of 1143 preeclampsia and 1725 normal pregnant women control. The mean (SD) of the PDW level was significantly higher in preeclampsia compared to controls [14.52 (2.61) % vs. 13.0 (2.55) %, P < 0.001]. Seven studies compared the PDW level in the mild with severe preeclampsia. It was significantly higher in severe compared to mild preeclampsia [16.38(2.45) % vs. 14.55 (2.57) %, P < 0.001]. Finding of this meta-analysis suggests that PDW represents a promising biomarker for the detection of patients with preeclampsia.

Autoclaving-cooling is a starch physical modification technique widely used to analyze the increase in resistant starch levels in foodstuffs. However, this technique has a different effect on each high-carbohydrate diet. This study investigates the type of carbohydrate food to increase the levels of resistant starch through the autoclaving-cooling process. This study used 31 articles using the PRISMA method. Data were analyzed with Effect Size Hedges'd (standardized mean difference/SMD) and confidence interval (CI) using OpenMEE software. The results showed that the autoclaving-cooling method had a significant effect on increasing levels of resistant starch and prebiotic properties (SMD 6.633; 95% CI: 5.286 to 7.980; p<0.001). In conclusion, this study confirmed that the autoclaving-cooling method had a significant effect with a 95% confidence level in increasing the levels of resistant starch and prebiotic properties of high-carbohydrate foods.

Databases such as PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar were searched. Data extraction and assessment of study protocol was done by two independent reviewers and the results were reviewed by a third. OpenMeta analyst and comprehensive meta-analysis (CMA) were used for the meta-analysis. The random effect model was used, publication bias and between-study heterogeneity was assessed. Seventeen studies were added to the final meta-analysis. Studies were sampled from 2000–2018 and of the 8684 isolates tested, 2824 were VRE. The pooled prevalence of VRE among poultry in Malaysia was estimated at 24.0% (95% CI; 16.7–33.1%; I2 = 98.14%; p < 0.001). Between-study variability was high (t2 = 0.788; heterogeneity I2 = 98.14% with heterogeneity chi-square (Q) = 858.379, degrees of freedom (df) = 16, and p < 0.001). The funnel plot showed bias which was confirmed by Egger’s test and estimates from the leave-one-out forest plot did not affect the pooled prevalence. Pooled prevalence of VRE in chickens and ducks were 29.2% (CI = 18.8–42.5%) and 11.2%, CI = 9.0–14.0%) respectively. Enterococcus faecalis was reported most with more studies being reported in Peninsular Malaysia Central region and used antibiotic disc diffusion as detection method. Increased surveillance of VRE in poultry in Malaysia is required.

Objective: Investigate if there is an association between apical periodontitis and diabetes mellitus. Material and methods: A bibliographic search was performed on Medline/PubMed, Scopus and Cochrane databases using the keywords apical periodontitis and diabetes mellitus. Published papers written in English and performed on animals or humans were included. Meta-analysis was performed using the OpenMeta (analyst) tool for the statistical analysis. The variables analyzed were the prevalence of Apical Periodontitis (AP) among teeth and patients with Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Results: Of the total studies found, only 21 met the inclusion criteria. Ten clinical studies on animals, ten studies on humans and a systematic review were included. Meta-analysis shows that the prevalence of teeth with apical periodontitis among patients with diabetes mellitus has an odds ratio of 1.166 corresponding to 507 teeth with AP + DM and 534 teeth with AP without DM. The prevalence of patients with AP and DM shows an odds ratio of 1.552 where 91 patients had AP + DM and 582 patients AP without DM. Conclusion: Scientific evidence suggests that there could be a common physiopathological factor between apical periodontitis and diabetes mellitus but more prospective studies are needed to investigate the association between these two diseases.

This study used fourteen articles which were analyzed and selected through the PRISMA guide method from a total of 531 articles obtained. The data was analyzed based on the percentage value of the Hedges’ effect size (standardized mean difference/SMD) and the value of the confidence interval (CI) using the OpenMEE software. The meta-analysis showed that the heat moisture treatment method on high-carbohydrate foods had a significant effect on increasing the levels of resistant starch and prebiotic properties (SMD 4.045; 95% CI: 2.301 to 5.788; p<0.001). The conclusion of this meta-analysis was that heat moisture treatment had a significant effect with a 95% confidence level in increasing resistant starch levels and prebiotic properties in high-carbohydrate foods.

Abstract Objective Differentiating between a clinical diagnosis of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and dementia is difficult due to expansive data needs in concert with ambiguity of clinical criteria. Novel artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning algorithms provide potential avenues for efficiently analyzing data sets and informing clinical judgment in distinguishing MCI from dementia. To date no formal meta-analysis of extant studies has been conducted to compare the efficacy of such procedures. A meta-analysis was conducted to synthesize the sensitivity and specificity of AI and machine learning programs in distinguishing between MCI and dementia as compared to traditional diagnostic protocols. Data Selection A search of studies using EBSCOhost databases using the keywords: “artificial intelligence,” “machine learning,” “MCI,” and “dementia” retrieved a total of 127 studies. Excluded were 106 studies due to non-reporting of sensitivity and specificity data. In total, 21 studies were included in the present meta-analysis. Data Synthesis Sensitivity and specificity data as well as the number of true-false categorizations were extracted and analyzed using OpenMeta[Analyst]. A bivariate correlation produced a summary point with sensitivity of 82% and specificity of 82%. A follow-up Rutter-Gatsonis multivariate correlation HSROC curve was created to correct for significant correlations (47%), and produced an adjusted mean specificity of 79% and sensitivity of 83%. Conclusions Results suggest AI and machine-learning algorithms are effective in distinguishing MCI from dementia. AI procedures have potential in aiding clinical judgment given a larger body of empirical research.

Background: We aimed to assess the efficacy of polyethylene glycol (PEG) dura sealant to achieve watertight closure, prevention of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak and to investigate its possible side effects. Methods: We searched Medline (through PubMed), Scopus, and the Cochrane Library through December 2019. We included articles demonstrating cranial or spinal procedures with the use of PEG material as a dural sealant. Data on intraoperative watertight closure, CSF leak, and surgical complications were extracted and pooled in a meta-analysis model using RevMan version 5.3 and OpenMeta (Analyst). Results: Pooling the controlled trials showed that PEG resulted in significantly more intraoperative watertight closures than standard care (risk ratio [RR] = 1.44, 95% confidence interval [CI] [1.24, 1.66]). However, the combined effect estimate did not reveal any significant difference between both groups in terms of CSF leaks, the incidence of surgical site infections, and neurological deficits (P = 0.7, 0.45, and 0.92, respectively). On the other hand, pooling both controlled and noncontrolled trials showed significance in terms of leak and neurological complications (RR = 0.0238, 95% CI [0.0102, 0.0373] and RR = 0.035, 95% CI [0.018, 0.052]). Regarding intraoperative watertight closure, the overall effect estimate showed no significant results (RR=0.994, 95% CI [0.986, 1.002]). Conclusion: Dura seal material is an acceptable adjuvant for dural closure when the integrity of the dura is questionable. However, marketing it as a factor for the prevention of surgical site infection is not scientifically proved. We suggest that, for neurosurgeons, using the dural sealants are highly recommended for duraplasty, skull base approaches, and in keyhole approaches.

IntroductionAnkylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease, associated with significant pain, functional impairment, and diminished quality of life. However, there is significant uncertainty regarding the prevalence of depression in AS and its associations.ObjectivesWe performed a meta-analysis to examine the prevalence of depression in AS and its associated correlates.MethodsThe study protocol was prospectively registered with PROSPERO (CRD42015019676). EMBASE, Medline, PsycINFO and Web of Science were systematically searched for cross-sectional studies with ≥ 50 adult AS patients, which reported depression prevalence using diagnostic criteria or a validated screening tool. Depression prevalence, tool and threshold used, age, gender, disease duration, as well as measures of disease activity, functional impairment, pain and innate inflammation, were abstracted. OpenMeta was used to calculate pooled prevalence estimates and to conduct meta-regression.ResultsEight hundred and seventy-seven texts were identified and 17 studies satisfied inclusion criteria, totalling 3187 participants (75.2% male). Six diagnostic tools and 10 different thresholds were reported, with depression prevalence estimates ranging from 4.9–55.5%. In studies using the depression subscale of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS-D), 37.1% of participants satisfied criteria for mild (≥ 8) and 8.2% met criteria for moderate depression (≥ 11). Multivariate meta-regression demonstrated significant positive correlations between depression and, respectively, disease activity (P < 0.001) and C-reactive protein (P < 0.001).ConclusionsThe prevalence of depression in AS is comparable with that of other rheumatic and degenerative diseases. Recent systematic reviews point out the positive acute effects of physical activity on executive functions in children and adolescents, but the chronic effects in this age group are still uncertain. This study aims to describe a systematic review with meta-analysis protocol to elucidate the chronic effects of physical activity at school on the executive functions and attention of children and adolescents, considering the effect moderators and examining different interventions in the school environment. A systematic search will be carried out for studies published in the PUBMED, Embase, Scopus and Cochrane Library databases. Studies that meet the following predefined criteria (PICOS criteria) will be included: 1) studies conducted with healthy children and adolescents (6-18 years-old), 2) studies with physical activity interventions in school, 3) studies conducted with a control group, and 4) studies with cognitive flexibility, working memory, inhibitory control and attention outcomes. Target outcomes will be extracted as pre-and post-test values. Intervention time, frequencies, intensity, volume, session time, and intervention type will be extracted for meta regression analysis. For methodological quality will be using the tool for the assessment of study quality and reporting in exercise training studies. Pooled effect estimates will be calculated from the scores of changes between baseline and end of interventions. The effect size will be expressed as Cohens’ and presented as standardized mean differences and calculations will be performed using random-effects models. Statistical heterogeneity will be evaluated by Cochran’s Q statistic and the I² inconsistency test. The meta-analyses will be performed using OpenMeta[Analyst].

Globally, colorectal carcinoma (CRC) is the third most common cancer and the third major cause of cancer-related death in both sexes. KRAS and BRAF mutations are almost mutually exclusively involved in the pathogenesis of CRC. Both are major culprits in treatment failure and poor prognosis for CRC. Method. A systematic review and meta-analysis of various research was done following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. This trial is registered with PROSPERO CRD42021256452. The initial search included 646 articles; after the removal of noneligible studies, a total of 88 studies was finally selected. Data analysis was carried out using OpenMeta Analyst and Comprehensive Meta-Analysis 3.0 (CMA 3.0) software to investigate the prevalence of KRAS and BRAF mutations among patients with CRC in Asia. Results. The meta-analysis comprises of 25,525 sample sizes from Asia with most being male 15,743/25525 (61.7%). Overall prevalence of KRAS mutations was (59/88) 36.3% (95% CI: 34.5-38.2) with I 2 = 85.54 % ( P value < 0.001). In 43/59 studies, frequency of KRAS mutations was majorly in codon 12 (76.6% (95% CI: 74.2–78.0)) and less in codon 13 (21.0% (95% CI: 19.1-23.0)). Overall prevalence of BRAF mutations was 5.6% (95% CI: 3.9-8.0) with I 2 = 94.00 % ( P value < 0.001). When stratified according to location, a higher prevalence was observed in Indonesia (71.8%) while Pakistan has the lowest (13.5%). Conclusion. Total prevalence of KRAS and BRAF mutations in CRC was 36.6% and 5.6%, respectively, and the results conformed with several published studies on KRAS and BRAF mutations.

Mobile health devices are emerging applications that could help deliver point-of-care (POC) diagnosis, particularly in settings with limited laboratory infrastructure, such as Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The advent of Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 has resulted in an increased deployment and use of mHealth-linked POC diagnostics in SSA. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the accuracy of mobile-linked point-of-care diagnostics in SSA. Our systematic review and meta-analysis were guided by the Preferred Reporting Items requirements for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis. We exhaustively searched PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar, MEDLINE, and CINAHL with full text via EBSCOhost databases, from mHealth inception to March 2021. The statistical analyses were conducted using OpenMeta-Analyst software. All 11 included studies were considered for the meta-analysis. The included studies focused on malaria infections, Schistosoma haematobium, Schistosoma mansoni, soil-transmitted helminths, and Trichuris trichiura. The pooled summary of sensitivity and specificity estimates were moderate compared to those of the reference representing the gold standard. The overall pooled estimates of sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio, negative likelihood ratio, and diagnostic odds ratio of mobile-linked POC diagnostic devices were as follows: 0.499 (95% CI: 0.458–0.541), 0.535 (95% CI: 0.401–0.663), 0.952 (95% CI: 0.60–1.324), 1.381 (95% CI: 0.391–4.879), and 0.944 (95% CI: 0.579–1.538), respectively. Evidence shows that the diagnostic accuracy of mobile-linked POC diagnostics in detecting infections in SSA is presently moderate. Future research is recommended to evaluate mHealth devices’ diagnostic potential using devices with excellent sensitivities and specificities for diagnosing diseases in this setting.

Synthetic antioxidants are created through artificial synthesis, whereas natural antioxidants are created through natural synthesis in plants, animals, and microbes. Although synthetic antioxidants have been used previously, there has been a growing need in recent years for natural antioxidants, largely due to the negative consequences of synthetic antioxidants. Therefore, many current studies have focused on finding natural antioxidants in diverse plants. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of natural and synthetic antioxidants in beef products using a meta-analysis approach. The method included the stages of identification, selection, and conformity check. The selection process resulted in 12 articles obtained from the electronic database of Harzing’s Publish and Perish software. The metaanalysis model used in this study was random-effect model involving a positive control group (synthetic antioxidants) and an experimental group (natural antioxidants). The effect size and confidence interval were computed using the OpenMEE software, while the summary size and Egger’s test were obtained using JASP software. Results revealed that the addition of natural antioxidants showed comparable quality to synthetic antioxidants, as indicated by similar values between the two groups for the peroxide value, carbonyl content, metmyoglobin content, cooking loss, pH, and hue angle (P>0.05). Natural antioxidants showed a higher value on b (yellowness) and chroma (P<0.05). Parameters indicating lower value (P<0.05) occurred in TBARS, a (redness), and L (lightness). In conclusion, the addition of natural antioxidants in beef products demonstrates comparable results and could be used as alternatives to synthetic antioxidants.
