Research background: One of the issues considered by economists such as Tinbergen (1939), Klein (1946), May, (1946), Theil (1965), Pawłowski (1969), Bołt et al. (1985) was to determine the mechanism of transition between the results of microeconomics and the theory of macroeconomics. As part of this research, Pawłowski (1969) raised the problem of establishing the relationship between microparameters and a macroparameter. In the presented article, Pawłowski's problem was expanded to include spatial economic research, where micro-dependencies and spatial macro-dependencies were analysed. Purpose of the article: The purpose of the article is to establish the relationship between the microparameters set for SGM agricultural macroregions and the macroparameter referring to the whole area of Poland, where the parameters describe the economic dependencies regarding the impact of the size of farms in established region on their technical equipment. In the study, the economic relationships analysed in the case of individual SGM agricultural macroregions were defined as spatial micro-dependencies, and in the case of the entire area of Poland as spatial macro-dependencies. Methods: The methodological part of the article describes the concepts of Modifiable Areal Unit Problem, causal homogeneity of spatial data, homogeneous system of sets of areal units, area and sub-areas of conclusions. The concepts of micro-dependencies and spatial macro-dependencies are presented. Basic equations allowing to determine the evaluation of the spatial macroparameter as a linear combination of spatial microparameters were also presented. Findings & Value added: In the first stage of the study, spatial micro-dependencies were identified for subsequent SGM agricultural macroregions. In the second stage of the study, the relationship between spatial microparameters for single macroregions and the spatial macroparameter for Poland was determined. Establishing the relationship allowed to determine the macroparameter estimate for the whole area of Poland.

Research background: Studying the dynamic characteristics of unemployment rate is crucial for both economic theory and macroeconomic policies. Despite numerous research, the empirical evidence about stochastic behaviour of the unemployment rate remains disputable. It has been widely agreed that most economic variables, including unemployment rates, are characterized by both structural breaks and nonlinearities. However, a little work is done to examine both features simultaneously. Purpose of the article: In this paper, we analyse the stationarity properties of unemployment rates of Euro area member countries. Also, we aim to test stochastic convergence of unemployment rates among member countries. Our empirical procedures explicitly allow for simultaneous gradual breaks and nonlinearities in the series. Methods: This paper develops a new unit root test procedure for panel data, allowing for both gradual structural breaks and asymmetric adjustment towards equilibrium. We carry out Monte Carlo simulations to examine small sample performance of the proposed test procedure and compare it to the existing test procedures. We apply the newly proposed test to examine the stochastic properties of the unemployment rates of Euro-member countries as well as relative unemployment rates vis-?-vis the Eurozone unemployment rate. Findings & value added: We find that the newly developed test procedure outperforms existing tests in highly nonlinear settings. Also, these tests reject the null hypothesis of unit root in more cases when compared to the existing tests. We find stationarity in the series only after allowing for structural breaks in the data generating process. Allowing for nonlinear and asymmetric adjustment in addition to gradual breaks provides evidence of stationarity in more cases. Furthermore, our results suggest that relative unemployment rate series are stationary, providing evidence in favour of stochastic convergence in unemployment rates. Overall, our results imply a limited room for coordinated economic policy to fight unemployment in the Eurozone.

Pada penelitian yang berjudul Evaluasi kolom stripper C-04-01 di Unit Naptha Hydrotreater memiliki tujuan mengevaluasi kinerja tray di kolom stripper C-04-01. Pada Kolom naphta stripper mempunyai 20 buah tray. Umpan masuk kolom ini pada tray no.6 dan pada kolom stripper diinjeksikan steam dari samping pada bagian dasar kolom. Short-cut Method merupakan metode yang digunakan untuk menentukan banyaknya tray teoritis berdasarkan perhitungan dari reflux minimum, reflux rasio, tray minimum, menentukan reflux operasi dan jumlah tray ideal teoritis yang digunakan. Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa efisiensi tray keseluruhan adalah 90%, jumlah tray teoritis sebanyak 18 buah tray. Temperatur operasi top kolom perhitungan yang didapat adalah sebesar 12,49 oC = 54,48 oF, dan kondisi aktual top kolom adalah 69,14 oC = 156 oF yang berarti diatas temperatur teoritis. Temperatur operasi bottom kolom melalui perhitungan teoritis adalah 236,75 oC = 458,14 oF, sedangkan temperatur aktual kolom sebesar 218,19 oC = 242,75 oF, yang berarti masih dibawah temperatur teoritis. Dengan menaikan temperatur reboiler maka temperatur aktual dapat dinaikan mendekati temperatur operasi bottom kolom perhitungan.Kata kunci: Naphta Hydrotreater, Stripper, Short-cut Method

OBJECTIVE We aimed to examine the relationship between osteocalcin (OC) and the risk of incident diabetes and the risk of incident diabetic kidney disease (DKD). RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS We followed 5,396 participants without diabetes (nondiabetes subcohort) and 1,174 participants with diabetes and normal kidney function (diabetes subcohort) at baseline. Logistic regression and modified Poisson regression models were used to estimate the relative risk (RR) of baseline OC levels with incident diabetes and DKD. RESULTS During a mean 4.6-year follow-up period, 296 cases of incident diabetes and 184 cases of incident DKD were identified. In the nondiabetes subcohort, higher OC levels were linearly associated with a decreased risk of diabetes (RR for 1-unit increase of loge-transformed OC 0.51 [95% CI 0.35–0.76]; RR for highest vs. lowest quartile 0.65 [95% CI 0.44–0.95]; P for trend < 0.05). In the diabetes subcohort, OC levels were linearly inversely associated with incident DKD (RR for 1-unit increase of loge-transformed OC 0.49 [95% CI 0.33–0.74]; RR for highest vs. lowest quartile 0.56 [95% CI 0.38–0.83]; P for trend < 0.05), even independent of baseline estimated glomerular filtration rate and urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio. No significant interactions between OC and various subgroups on incident diabetes or DKD were observed. CONCLUSIONS Lower OC levels were associated with an increased risk of incident diabetes and DKD.

Objectives of this research were 1) to determine fish drying time YTP-UNIB 2013 biomass dryer with four different temperatures; 2) to compare the resulted dry fishes to SNI Standards for fish; 3) to find the optimum drying temperature to produce dry fish with better fit to SNI standards.Utilizing “ Kaseh” fish (Opisthopterus tardoore) as experimental sample dryings with temperatures 30-40 oC, 40-50 oC, 50-60 oC and 60-70 oC, in term of drying time, resulted 10 hours, 8 hours, 6.5 hours and 5.5 hours respectively. From the TPC point of view, the dry fishes produced by these temperature ranges contained 1,16 x 106 kol/g, 1,0875 x 106 kol/g, 0,744 x 106 kol/g and 0,8975 x 106 kol/g. These dry fishes fitted respectively to 8.6, 8.8, 8.4 and 7.8 average organoleptical scores. The finding suggested that drying with 50-60 temperature ranges would be proper choice for drying fish with YTP-UNIB 2013 biomass dryer.Keywords :

Research background: At present, it is critical to raise awareness on how global trends of doing business within the framework of sustainable development affect the success of each business unit, integration associations, and apparently contribute to a nation’s prosperity. Thus, a study aimed at measuring the effects of socially responsible strategic partnerships on building brand equity of integrated business structures (IBS) will provide deeper insights into assessing the effectiveness and relevance of disseminating CSR practices. Purpose of the article: The paper attempts to evaluate the degree of effect of socially responsible strategic partnerships on building strong brand equity of integrated business structures. Methods: The participants in the assessment have been selected from the Forbes TOP 200 largest companies in Ukraine (the ranking was based not only on sales, such metrics as companies’ financial performance, total assets and their current assessed value were also considered). The input data on the CSR indices were obtained from the Center for CSR Development Ukraine. The index of loyalty to a certain brand was calculated as an integral ratio of satisfaction and importance to customers (based on online survey results). To analyze the impact of the endogenous variable of CSR on IBS branding effectiveness (customer loyalty index and brand equity) and its cost effectiveness, correlation regression and factor analysis methods were applied. Findings & Value added: This study demonstrates the feasibility and economic justification of the impact of socially responsible strategic partnerships on brand equity development for integrated business structures. The research has significant implications for brand management of integrated business structures by providing empirical evidence that will improve understanding of the need to implement the concept of socially responsible branding that right today resonates with the moral society.

Research background: Adverse demographic changes in many local administration units around the world lead to their shrinkage. These processes are usually accompanied by economic changes. The economic consequences of shrinkage can be assessed based on the budgetary revenues of local units, which are largely dependent on the local population and the demographic structure. Purpose of the article: The aim of this article is to evaluate the shrinkage of Polish municipalities and the effects of population change on the budgetary revenues of local administration units. The analysis was conducted in selected municipalities of the Warmian-Masurian voivodeship, which is the least economically developed region in Poland. The analysis covered the period between 2012 and 2017. Methods: The shrinkage of municipalities was evaluated with the use of the methods proposed by the Shrinking Cities International Research Network (SCIRN). According to this methodology, a local unit shrinks when the annual decrease in population exceeds 0.15% for more than five consecutive years. The influence of demographic changes on the budgetary revenues of municipalities was evaluated with the use of linear correlation analysis (Pearson's r) as well as a survey conducted among municipal treasurers in the Warmian-Masurian voivodeship. Findings & Value added: Symptoms of shrinkage were described in selected municipalities of the Warmian-Masurian voivodeship. The presence of correlations between different categories of budgetary revenues and demographic changes was confirmed. The results of the study and the formulated practical recommendations constitute constructive inputs to the discussion on possible solutions to the analyzed problem. They can also be used in further research to analyze other aspects of municipal budgets (the consequences of depopulation for budgetary expenditures, municipal debt, etc.) or conduct comparisons with other regions in Poland and in the world.

Coal gasification utilization for tea drying unit. Anticipating the rise of fuel oil, the management of a tea plantation and drying plant has considered to substitute its oil consumption with producer gas (gaseous fuel obtained from gasification process). A tea drying unit normally consumes 70 L/h of industrial diesel oil and is operated 10 hours per day. The gasification unit consisted of a down draft fixed bed gasifier (designed capacity of about 100 kg/h), gas cooling and cleaning systems. The gas producer was delivered to the tea processing unit and burned to heat the drying oil: Low calorific value coal (4500 kcal/kg) and wood waste (4000 kcal/kg) have been used as fuel. The gasification unit could be operated as long as 8 hours without refueled since the coal hopper on the toppart of gasifier has a capacity of 1000 kg. Sometimes, the gasification process must be stopped before coal completely consumed due to ash melting inside the gasifier. Combustion of producer gas produced a pale-blue flame, probably due to a lower calorific value of the producer gas or too much excess air. Temperature of heating-air heated by combustion of this producer gas was only up to 96 oC. To achieve the target temperature of 102 oC, a small oil burner must he operated at a rate ofabout 15 L/h. Thus the oil replacement was about 78%.Keywords: Fuel oil, Producer gas, Downdraft gasifier, Dual fuel, Calorific value, Burner. AbstrakKenaikan harga bahan bakar minyak untuk industri pada awal 2006 telah mendorong berbagai pemikiran dan upaya pemanfaatan bahan bakar alternatif. Sebuah unit gasifikasi telah dipasang di pabrik teh sebagai penyedia bahan bakar alternatif. Unit gasifikasi tersebut terdiri dari gasifier, pendingin, pembersih gas, dan blower. Unit gasifikasi ini ditargetkan untuk dapat menggantikan konsumsi minyak bakar 70 L/jam. Gasifier dirancang untuk kapasitas 120 kg/jam batubara, dan memiliki spesifikasi sebagai berikut: downdraft gasifier; diameter tenggorokan 40 cm, diameter zona reduksi 80 cm. Bunker di bagian atas gasifier memiliki kapasitas sekitar 1000 kg batubara agar gasifier dapat dioperasikan selama 8 jam tanpa pengisian-ulang. Bahan baku gasifikasi yang telah diuji-coba adalah batuhara kalori rendah (4500 kcal/kg) dan limbah kayu (4000 kcal/kg). Gas produser (hasil gasifikasi) dibakar pada burner untuk memanaskan udara pengering teh sampai temperatur target 102 oC. Pembakaran gas produser ternyata menghasilkan api biru pucat yang mungkin disebabkan oleh rendahnya kalor bakar gas dan tingginya udara-lebih. Temperatur udara pengering hasil pemanasan dengan api gas produser hanya mencapai 96 oC. Dan untuk mencapai temperatur udara pengering 102 oC, burner gas prod user harus dibantu dengan burner minyak 15 L/jam. Jadi operasi dual fued ini dapat memberi penghematan minyak bakar 78%.Kata kunci: Minyak bakar, Gas produser, Downdraft gasifier, Dual fuel, Kalor bakar, Burner.

Research background: Covid-19 has affected the global economy and has had an inevitable impact on capital markets. In the week of February 24?28, 2020, stock markets crashed. The index FTSE 100 decreased 13%, while the indices DJIA and S&P 500 fell 11?12%, the biggest drop since the 2007?2008 financial and economic crisis. It is therefore of interest to test the random walk hypothesis in developed capital markets, European and also non-European, in order to understand the different predictabilities between them. Purpose of the article: The aim is to analyze capital market efficiency, in its weak form, through the stock market indices of Belgium (index BEL 20), France (index CAC 40), Germany (index DAX 30), USA (index DOW JONES), Greece (index FTSE Athex 20), Spain (index IBEX 35), Ireland (index ISEQ), Portugal (index PSI 20) and China (index SSE) for the period from December 2019 to May 2020. Methods: Panel unit root tests of Breitung (2000), Levin et al. (2002) and Hadri (2002) were used to assess the time series stationarity. The test of Clemente et al. (1998) is used to detect structural breaks. The tests for the random walk hypothesis follows the variance ratio methodology proposed by Lo and MacKinlay (1988). Findings & Value added: In general, we found mixed confirmation about the EMH (efficient market hypothesis). Taking into account the conclusions of the rank variance test, the random walk hypothesis was rejected in the case of stock indices: Dow Jones, SSE and PSI 20, partially rejected in the case indices: BEL 20, CAC 40, FTSTE Athex 20 and DEX 30, but accepted for indices: IBEX 35 and ISEQ. The results also show that prices do not fully reflect the information available and that changes in prices are not independent and identically distributed. This situation has consequences for investors, since some returns can be expected, creating opportunities for arbitrage and for abnormal returns, contrary to the assumptions of random walk and information efficiency.

Como objetivos espec?ficos: verificar, analisar e desvelar qual a concep??o que os povos tradicionais que residem na ?rea de abrang?ncia do Parque Nacional das Sempre-vivas t?m acerca do processo sa?de-doen?a; verificar, analisar e desvelar se os povos tradicionais que residem na ?rea de abrang?ncia do Parque Nacional das Sempre-vivas correlacionam o processo de sa?de-doen?a com a implanta??o do Parque Nacional das Sempre-vivas; verificar, analisar e desvelar, quais os sentidos e significados atribu?dos ? implanta??o do Parque Nacional das Sempre-vivas pelos povos tradicionais que residem na ?rea de abrang?ncia do mesmo. A pesquisa foi realizada na ?rea de abrang?ncia do Parque Nacional das Sempre-vivas localizado na regi?o nordeste do estado de Minas Gerais. Para a constru??o desse estudo, tr?s mulheres representantes de distintas comunidades foram entrevistadas. Ao buscar desvelar a rela??o entre o Parque Nacional das Sempre-vivas e o processo de adoecimento dos povos afetados foi necess?rio entender de onde vinham os conhecimentos e as pr?ticas relacionados aos cuidados de sa?de, qual a concep??o de sa?de-doen?a adotada por esses povos, essa busca nos conduziu ?s av?s, bisav?s, tatarav?s detentoras dos conhecimentos e praticas relacionado aos cuidados da sa?de, nas quais resguardam um patrim?nio social carregado de significa??es atribu?das pelos povos nativos destas terras. Constatamos que a sobreposi??o do Parque Nacional das Sempre-vivas em terras tradicionalmente ocupadas provocou sofrimento ps?quico desencadeado pelo medo e aos atos de viol?ncia a que foram submetidos, al?m disso, a repress?o das atividades das popula??es habitantes representa o rompimento com o existir desses povos e como consequ?ncia, leva ao adoecimento.

The research deals with qualitative field reflections that have Historical Partner Psychology as a guiding epistemological axis and whose general objective is: to raise, analyze and reveal the meanings and meanings (meaning) that traditional communities attribute to the health-disease process and the implantation of the Evergreens National Park. As specific objectives: to verify, analyze and unveil the conception that the traditional peoples that reside in the area of coverage of the Everglades National Park have about the health-disease process; verify, analyze and reveal if the traditional peoples who live in the area covered by the Everglades National Park correlate the health-disease process with the implementation of the Evergreen National Park; verify, analyze and reveal the meanings and meanings attributed to the implantation of the Evergreen National Park by the traditional peoples residing in the area covered by it. The research was carried out in the area covered by the Evergreen National Park located in the northeastern region of the state of Minas Gerais. For the construction of this study, three women representatives from different communities were interviewed. The centralized and recurrent semi-structured interview was the technique of obtaining the information. The analysis of Nuclei of Meanings and the analysis of the Thematic Nuclei were the analytical strategies used. All the ethical precepts of Resolution 466/12 were adhered to and guaranteed. In seeking to unveil the relationship between Evergreens National Park and the disease process of affected peoples, it was necessary to understand where the knowledge and practices related to health care came from, what the concept of health-disease adopted by these peoples, this search led us to the grandparents, great-grandparents, great-grandparents holding the knowledge and practices related to health care, in which they safeguard a social patrimony loaded with meanings attributed by the native peoples of these lands. We find that the overlapping of the Evergreen National Park in traditionally occupied lands caused psychic suffering triggered by the fear and acts of violence to which they were subjected. In addition, the repression of the activities of the inhabitants represents the rupture with the existence of these peoples and as a consequence, leads to illness.

The optical network applies in the high-speed and long-haul communications has become a major trend presently. Today, the highest speed for wired data communication is reached using optical fiber transmission operating in accordance with the SONET (Synchronous Optical Networking Standards) standards. The data rate of the SONET OC-192 is close to 10Gb/s and it expects that the data rate of 10Gb/s will be universal in backbone network and applied in terminal networks. And the transceiver is the critical device in high-speed optical networks. The goal in the thesis is to develop a clock multiplier unit and clock/data recovery circuit that suit to the SNOCT OC-192 transceiver. At the transmitter end, the encoded parallel data must be transformed into serial signals by MUX and therefore a CMU is needed to generate a high-speed reference signal for parallel-to-serial data conversion and multiplexing. At the receiver end, a CDR circuit derives the input frequency and phase of the NRZ signals and generates a high precision clock to sample the incoming data so as to reduce the bit error rate. Clock multiplier Unit is accomplished by using PLL-based frequency synthesizer. The main goal is to generate a reference signal for multiplexer. Its function is to synthesize a 9.9533GHz output signal form a 622.08MHz reference source according to the SONET OC-192 standard. For various applications, the output frequency range of the oscillator covers that of various communication standards around 10Gb/s. The CMU circuit is fabricated in TSMC 0.35μm BiCMOS process and its operation voltage is 3.3V. An individual chip of 16:1 static frequency divider has been designed and demonstrated. Its operation range is 500 MHz ~ 9.1 GHz, chip size is 1 × 0.8 mm2, and power consumption is 78.7mW. It can be used to generate down-frequency clock signals for demultiplexer and used in frequency synthesizer. A fully differential clock multiplier unit presented in the thesis achieves improved levels of phase noise and supply rejection performance through the use of fully differential architecture. The CMU has a die size of 2.1 × 1.1 mm2 and consumes 230.4mW from 3.3 V. PLL-based CDRs are benefited from capabilities of high frequency operation and feasibility for monolithic integration. Moreover, the phase frequency detector can adjust the transition edge of the sampling clock and align to that of the input data. Therefore, conventionally, high frequency clock and data recovery circuits are of PLL based type. A PLL-based high-speed CDR circuit without reference signals is achieved in this thesis. Because the phase detector used in the CDR is binary type, the conventional linear model of the PLL does not fit it. A novel analytical linear model for the binary type CDR circuit is addressed. Then a CDR circuit that conforms to the SONET OC-192 jitter requirements is designed by it. The CDR circuit is fabricated in TSMC 0.35μm BiCMOS process and its operation voltage is 3.3V. The architecture of it is fully differential and the output frequency range covers that of various communication standards around 10Gb/s. Finally, the jitter bandwidth is 4.18MHz, jitter peaking is 0dB, and the jitter generation is about 5ps. The jitter performances of it suit the OC-192 jitter requirements and its power consumption is 589.1mW.

Soil organic carbon (SOC) is a major indicator of soil health. Globally, soil contains approximately 2344 Gt of organic carbon (OC), which is the largest terrestrial pool of OC. Through plant growth, soil health is connected with the health of humans, animals, and ecosystems. Provides ecosystem services which include climate regulation, water supplies and regulation, nutrient cycling, erosion protection and enhancement of biodiversity. Global increase in land use change from natural vegetation to agricultural land has been documented as a result of intensification of agricultural practices in response to an increasing human population. Consequently, these changes have resulted in depletion of SOC stock, thereby negatively affecting agricultural productivity and provision of ecosystem services. This necessitates the need to consider technological options that promote retention of SOC stocks. Options to enhance SOC include; no-tillage/conservation agriculture, irrigation, increasing below-ground inputs, organic amendments, and integrated, and diverse cropping/farming systems. In addition, land use conversion from cropland to its natural vegetation improves soil C stocks, highlighting the importance of increasing agricultural production per unit land instead of expanding agricultural land to natural areas.

Over the past 10-15 years, there has been increasing attention in the development of forward osmosis (FO) technology as a low-energy technical solution to wastewater treatment through the exploitation of the natural osmosis phenomenon across semi-permeable membrane. The significant energy benefit arises in applications where direct recovery of the permeate product from the draw solution (DS) is obviated such as in osmotic concentration (OC) process. In the current research, an OC FO-based pilot-scale unit was applied for wastewater volume reduction from oil and gas processing facilities in Qatar. The pilot unit uses seawater of 40 g/L salinity as a DS and wastewater generated during oil and gas operations as a feed. This feed water is of comparatively low conductivity (2 g/L salinity), making it unusually suited to treatment by OC. Based on FO technology principles, the feed gets concentrated at lower volume with the water permeation through the membrane, meanwhile the water transfer to DS side dilutes it. The diluted DS could be directly discharged into the ocean; so the energy intensive step of DS recovery is entirely eliminated. Two FO membranes (Toyobo and NTU) of hollow fiber configuration were tested to assess their performance and fouling propensity on both synthetic and real wastewaters. Results demonstrated that the membrane-based process can achieve feed water recoveries up to 90% without any scaling issues. Achieved water flux ranges between 1.5 to 12 LMH for feed recoveries between 60 and 90% using a constant dilution rate of the draw solution. Above all, the pilot unit maintained stable water flux of 1.62 and 6 LMH using at 75% feed recovery for over 48 hours of continuous operation Toyobo and NTU membranes respectively.

Around 17% of the globally generated energy is consumed for residential, commercial, and transportation refrigeration. The current cooling technologies utilize refrigerants with high Ozone Depletion and Global Warming Potentials. Furthermore, the current technologies are expensive alongside with toxicity and flammability hazards. On the other side, energy produced by combustion of fossil fuels results in substantial amounts of waste heat. Therefore, it is necessary to develop new refrigeration technologies that utilize waste heat as a source of energy with ecofriendly refrigerants with zero ozone depletion potential and zero global warming potential. In addition, this thermal mechanical refrigeration (TMR) technology improves the energy efficiency of the source of waste heat system and minimizes the emissions of the carbon dioxide (CO2). In this study, a novel thermo-mechanical refrigeration system is proposed. It operates with low-grade energy sources (such as waste heat) at temperature range of 60 oC to 100 oC. Furthermore, it has the advantage of working with low-frequency driver-compressor unit, which eliminates noise and increases its lifetime. Moreover, the TMR system is adaptable to commercial, transportation, and residential refrigeration applications.

Abstract Wind load is one of the major design load considerations for the hull and mooring of offshore floating facilities. The first step to minimize the uncertainties in wind load is generating an accurate wind profile that satisfies design requirements. Recently, there was a joint-industry effort to develop CFD modeling practices on wind-load estimation in SNAME OC-8 CFD Task Force (OMAE2018-78699). The Task Force developed the modeling practice for the NPD (Norwegian Petroleum Directorate) model commonly used for offshore platform design, and several independent participants in the Task Force successfully validated the practice for a topsides of a semi-submersible platform. The sustainable wind profile was able to be generated within 1% tolerance of the target wind profile, and the calculated wind loads on the topsides from CFD simulations were close to the model test data with low uncertainty levels. In the present study, the numerical modeling for the sustainable ABL is extended to other popular wind models such as the ESDU (Engineering Science Data Unit) and the power-law models. The study is a part of a joint-development project between TechnipFMC, Chevron, and Samsung Heavy Industries. The analytic or numerical formulae of wind speed and turbulent quantities for several RANS (Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes) models are derived for the wind models, and the sustainability of wind profiles are verified.

Aim/Purpose: [This Proceedings paper was revised and published in the 2018 issue of the journal Issues in Informing Science and Information Technology, Volume 15] This paper investigates the new technical skills that are needed for Data Engineering. Past research is compared to new research which creates a list of the 20 top tech-nical skills required by a Data Engineer. The growing availability of Data Engineering jobs is discussed. The research methodology describes the gathering of sample data and then the use of Pig and MapReduce on AWS (Amazon Web Services) to count occurrences of Data Engineering technical skills from 100 Indeed.com job advertisements in July, 2017. Background: A decade ago, Data Engineering relied heavily on the technology of Relational Database Management Sys-tems (RDBMS). For example, Grisham, P., Krasner, H., and Perry D. (2006) described an Empirical Soft-ware Engineering Lab (ESEL) that introduced Relational Database concepts to students with hands-on learning that they called “Data Engineering Education with Real-World Projects.” However, as seismic im-provements occurred for the processing of large distributed datasets, big data analytics has moved into the forefront of the IT industry. As a result, the definition for Data Engineering has broadened and evolved to include newer technology that supports the distributed processing of very large amounts of data (e.g. Hadoop Ecosystem and NoSQL Databases). This paper examines the technical skills that are needed to work as a Data Engineer in today’s rapidly changing technical environment. Research is presented that re-views 100 job postings for Data Engineers from Indeed (2017) during the month of July, 2017 and then ranks the technical skills in order of importance. The results are compared to earlier research by Stitch (2016) that ranked the top technical skills for Data Engineers in 2016 using LinkedIn to survey 6,500 peo-ple that identified themselves as Data Engineers. Methodology: A sample of 100 Data Engineering job postings were collected and analyzed from Indeed during July, 2017. The job postings were pasted into a text file and then related words were grouped together to make phrases. For example, the word “data” was put into context with other related words to form phrases such as “Big Data”, “Data Architecture” and “Data Engineering”. A text editor was used for this task and the find/replace functionality of the text editor proved to be very useful for this project. After making phrases, the large text file was uploaded to the Amazon cloud (AWS) and a Pig batch job using Map Reduce was leveraged to count the occurrence of phrases and words within the text file. The resulting phrases/words with occurrence counts was download to a Personal Computer (PC) and then was loaded into an Excel spreadsheet. Using a spreadsheet enabled the phrases/words to be sorted by oc-currence count and then facilitated the filtering out of irrelevant words. Another task to prepare the data involved the combination phrases or words that were synonymous. For example, the occurrence count for the acronym ELT and the occurrence count for the acronym ETL were added together to make an overall ELT/ETL occurrence count. ETL is a Data Warehousing acronym for Extracting, Transforming and Loading data. This task required knowledge of the subject area. Also, some words were counted in lower case and then the same word was also counted in mixed or upper case, thus producing two or three occur-rence counts for the same word. These different counts were added together to make an overall occur-rence count for the word (e.g. word occurrence counts for Python and python were added together). Fi-nally, the Indeed occurrence counts were sorted to allow for the identification of a list of the top 20 tech-nical skills needed by a Data Engineer. Contribution: Provides new information about the Technical Skills needed by Data Engineers. Findings: Twelve of the 20 Stitch (2016) report phrases/words that are highlighted in bold above matched the tech-nical skills mentioned in the Indeed research. I considered C, C++ and Java a match to the broader cate-gory of Programing in the Indeed data. Although the ranked order of the two lists did not match, the top five ranked technical skills for both lists are similar. The reader of this paper might consider the skills of SQL, Python, Hadoop/HDFS to be very important technical skills for a Data Engineer. Although the programming language R is very popular with Data Scientists, it did not make the top 20 skills for Data Engineering; it was in the overall list from Indeed. The R programming language is oriented towards ana-lytical processing (e.g. used by Data Scientists), whereas the Python language is a scripting and object-oriented language that facilitates the creation of Data Pipelines (e.g. used by Data Engineers). Because the data was collected one year apart and from very different data sources, the timing of the data collection and the different data sources could account for some of the differences in the ranked lists. It is worth noting that the Indeed research ranked list introduced the technical skills of Design Skills, Spark, AWS (Amazon Web Services), Data Modeling, Kafta, Scala, Cloud Computing, Data Pipelines, APIs and AWS Redshift Data Warehousing to the top 20 ranked technical skills list. The Stitch (2016) report that did not have matches to the Indeed (2017) sample data for Linux, Databases, MySQL, Business Intelligence, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Data Analysis and Unix. Although many of these Stitch top 20 technical skills were on the Indeed list, they did not make the top 20 ranked technical skills. Recommendations for Practitioners: Some of the skills needed for Database Technologies are transferable to Data Engineering. Recommendation for Researchers: None Impact on Society: There is not much peer reviewed literature on the subject of Data Engineering, this paper will add new information to the subject area. Future Research: I'm developing a Specialization in Data Engineering for the MS in Data Science degree at our university.
