Triglyceride hydrolysis by the perfused rat hindlimb is enhanced with serotonin-induced nonnutritive flow (NNF) and may be due to the presence of nonnutritive route-associated connective tissue fat cells. Here, we assess whether NNF influences muscle uptake of 0.55 mM palmitate in the perfused hindlimb. Comparisons were made with insulin-mediated glucose uptake. NNF induced during 60 nM insulin infusion inhibited hindlimb oxygen uptake from 22.0 ± 0.5 to 9.7 ± 0.8 μmol · g−1 · h−1( P < 0.001), 1-methylxanthine metabolism (indicator of nutritive flow) from 5.8 ± 0.4 to 3.8 ± 0.4 nmol · min−1 · g−1( P = 0.004), glucose uptake from 29.2 ± 1.7 to 23.1 ± 1.8 μmol · g−1 · h−1( P = 0.005) and muscle 2-deoxyglucose uptake from 82.1 ± 4.6 to 41.6 ± 6.7 μmol · g−1 · h−1( P < 0.001). Palmitate uptake, unaffected by insulin alone, was inhibited by NNF in extensor digitorum longus, white gastrocnemius, and tibialis anterior muscles; average inhibition was from 13.9 ± 1.2 to 6.9 ± 1.4 μmol · g−1 · h−1( P = 0.02). Thus NNF impairs both fatty acid and glucose uptake by muscle by restricting flow to myocytes but, as shown previously, favors triglyceride hydrolysis and uptake into nearby connective tissue fat cells. The findings have implications for lipid partitioning in limb muscles between myocytes and attendant adipocytes.

Legumes are widely consumed by humans, being an important source of nutrients; however, they contain non-nutritional factors (NNFs), such as phytic acid (IP6), raffinose, stachyose, total phenolic compounds, condensed tannins, and flavonoids, that have negative effects on human health. Although vetches (Vicia sativa) are widely cultivated, they are not intended for human feeding due to their contents of NNF. Usually, the NNF are removed by cooking or germinating; however, germination is a process that requires extended time, and cooking may compromise the viability of some nutrients. To promote vetches for human consumption, the effect of the Instant Controlled Pressure Drop (DIC) process was studied as an alternative to cooking and germinating to decrease NNF contents. Results showed that compared to raw vetches, DIC treatment reduced total phenolic compounds (48%), condensed tannins (28%), flavonoids (65%), IP6 (92%), raffinose (77%), and stachyose (92%). These results are very similar to the ones achieved by traditional ways of removing NNF.

Abstract Introduction Rituximab-CHOP (R-CHOP) is the standard chemotherapy in DLBCL patients. Febrile neutropenia (FN) is the major toxicity of this regimen, but we also observe non-neutropenic fever (NNF) during the recovery period after R-CHOP. Method Between September 20089 and January 2013, a total of 1142 lymphoma patients were registered in the prospective cohort. Among these, 397 DLBCL patients who had completed R-CHOP based chemo cycles as first line treatment were analyzed. Results Of the 397 patients, 160 (40.3%) and 39 (9.8%) experienced FN and NNF, and 24 (6.0%) exhibited both. Approximately 50% of the initial FN occurred after the 1st cycle whereas NNF was mainly observed around the 4th cycle (28.2%). Including multiple FN occurrences in 65 patients (40.9%), there were 276 FN events in 160 patients. Besides unexplained fever (47.8%), catheter related infection was predominated (14.2%) and Coagulase negative staphylococcus was the most common microorganism causing bacteremia (27.7%). Thirty nine patients with NNF exhibited a total of 42 episodes and atypical pneumonia comprised the highest proportion (54.8%). Of the identified organisms causing atypical pneumonia, PJP was most common (n=4), adenovirus (n=3), RSV (n=2), and CMV (n=1) came next. Conclusion FN and NNF during R-CHOP treatment showed different clinical manifestation regarding their timing of initial episode and causes. Disclosures: No relevant conflicts of interest to declare.

Abstract. Continual input of reactive nitrogen (N) is required to support the natural turnover of N in terrestrial ecosystems. This N demand can be satisfied in various ways, including biological N fixation (BNF) (the dominant pathway under natural conditions), lightning-induced abiotic N fixation, N uptake from sedimentary substrates, and N deposition from natural and anthropogenic sources. We estimated the global new N fixation demand (NNF), i.e. the total new N input required to sustain net primary production (NPP) in non-agricultural terrestrial ecosystems regardless of its origin, using a N-enabled global dynamic vegetation model (DyN-LPJ). DyN-LPJ does not explicitly simulate BNF; rather, it estimates total NNF using a mass balance criterion and assumes that this demand is met from one source or another. The model was run in steady state and then in transient mode driven by recent changes in CO2 concentration and climate. A range of values for key stoichiometric parameters was considered, based on recently published analyses. Modelled NPP and C : N ratios of litter and soil organic matter were consistent with independent estimates. Modelled geographic patterns of ecosystem NNF were similar to other analyses, but actual estimated values exceeded recent estimates of global BNF. The results were sensitive to a few key parameters: the fraction of litter carbon respired to CO2 during decomposition and plant-type-specific C : N ratios of litter and soil. The modelled annual NNF increased by about 15 % during the course of the transient run, mainly due to increasing CO2 concentration. The model did not overestimate recent terrestrial carbon uptake, suggesting that the increase in NNF demand has so far been met. Rising CO2 is further increasing the NNF demand, while the future capacity of N sources to support this is unknown.

The aims of this study were to 1) compare two methods of determining interstitial glycerol concentration in subcutaneous adipose tissue (AT) and 2) determine whether there are regional differences in interstitial glycerol concentration in subcutaneous AT of nonobese, premenopausal women. Microdialysis probes were inserted under local anesthesia into the abdominal (2 probes) and femoral (1 probe) subcutaneous AT in each subject ( n = 5) and perfused with a Ringer solution containing 2.5 mM glucose and glycerol in concentrations ranging from 0 to 900 μM. Microdialysis probe relative recoveries and interstitial glycerol concentrations were determined by the no-net-flux method (NNF) and the internal reference method (IR) with the use of [13C]glycerol. Microdialysis probe relative recoveries were 57.4 ± 3.6% by NNF and 61.2 ± 10.1% by IR in femoral AT [ P = not significant (NS)] and were 55.2 ± 6.0% by NNF and 66.6 ± 4.2% by IR in abdominal AT ( P = NS). The calculated interstitial glycerol concentrations determined by NNF and IR were 236.4 ± 42.7 and 241.1 ± 39.6 μM ( P = NS) in femoral AT and 151.4 ± 29.7 and 129.4 ± 18.7 μM in abdominal AT (NNF vs. IR, P = NS; femoral vs. abdominal, P < 0.05). It can be concluded that the interstitial glycerol concentration in the femoral AT of nonobese, premenopausal females is ∼240 μM and is higher than in abdominal AT (140 μM). Furthermore, the use of a stable isotope of glycerol as an internal reference is suitable for determining interstitial glycerol concentrations in subcutaneous adipose tissue in humans at rest.

Aiming at the problems inherent in the traditional fuzzy energy management strategy (F-EMS), such as poor adaptive ability and lack of self-learning, a neural network fuzzy energy management strategy (NNF-EMS) for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) based on driving cycle recognition (DCR) is designed. The DCR was realized by the method of neural network sample learning and characteristic parameter analysis, and the recognition results were considered as the reference input of the fuzzy controller with further optimization of the membership function, resulting in improvement in the poor pertinence of F-EMS driving cycles. The research results show that the proposed NNF-EMS can realize the adaptive optimization of fuzzy membership function and fuzzy rules under different driving cycles. Therefore, the proposed NNF-EMS has strong robustness and practicability under different driving cycles.

In this paper, we study geometrical properties of marginally trapped surfaces in gravitational collapse, using a semi-tetrad covariant formalism, that provides a set of geometrical and matter variables. We first define a generalization (in a sense to be specified in the introduction) of LRS II spacetime — which we call NNF spacetimes — and show that the marginally trapped surfaces in NNF spacetimes (and the 3-surfaces they foliate) are topologically equivalently those of LRS II spacetimes. We then study the evolution of MTTs (3-surfaces foliated by marginally trapped surfaces), extending earlier work on LRS II spacetimes to NNF spacetimes, and in general any 4-dimensional spacetime. In addition, we perform a stability analysis for the marginally trapped surfaces in this formalism, using simple spacetimes as examples to demonstrate the applicability of our approach.

This work examines the use of neural networks in modelling the adsorption process of gas mixtures (CO&lt;sub&gt;2&lt;/sub&gt;, CH&lt;sub&gt;4&lt;/sub&gt;, and N&lt;sub&gt;2&lt;/sub&gt;) on different activated carbons. Seven feed-forward neural network models, characterized by different structures, were constructed with the aim of predicting the adsorption of gas mixtures. A set of 417, 625, 143, 87, 64, 64, and 40 data points for NN1 to NN7, respectively, were used to test the neural networks. Of the total data, 60 %, 20 %, and 20 % were used, respectively, for training, validation, and testing of the seven models. Abstract The present study promotes a new algorithm for estimating the water pollution propagation with the primary goal of providing more reliable and high quality estimates to decision makers. To date, the widely used variational method suffers from the large computational burden, which limits its application in practice. Moreover, this method, considering the initial state as a control variable, is very sensitive in specifying initial error, especially for unstable dynamical systems. The Neural Network Filter (NNF), proposed in the present paper, is aimed at overcoming these two drawbacks in the variational method: by its nature, the NNF is sequential (no batch large assimilation window used) and stable even for unstable dynamics, with the gain parameters as control variables. The NNF, developed in the present paper, is a Neural Network Filter (NNF) version of the Singular Evolutive Interpolated Kalman Filter (SEIKF). One of the new versions of this NNF is that it uses structure of the gain of SEIKF0 taken by the SEIKF at the first time moment of correction process. To deal with the uncertainty of the system parameters and of the noise covariance, the proposed Neural Network SEIKF0 named by NNSEIKF0 makes use of the covariance of a reduced rank iterated during assimilation process and of some pertinent gain parameters tuned adaptively to yield the minimum prediction error for the system output. The computational burden in implementation of the NNSEIKF0 is reduced drastically due to applying the optimization tool known as a simultaneous perturbation stochastic approximation (SPSA) algorithm, which requires only two integrations of the numerical model. No iterative loop is required at each assimilation instant as usually happens with the standard gradient descent optimization algorithms. Data assimilation experiment, carried out by the SEIKF0 and NNSEIKF0, is implemented for the Thanh Nhan Lake in Hanoi and the performance comparison between the NNSEIKF0 and SEIKF0 is given to show the high efficiency of the proposed NNSEIKF0.

This paper presents a comprehensive approach for model-based diagnosis which includes proposals for characterizing and computing preferred diagnoses, assuming that the system description is augmented with a system structure (a directed graph explicating the interconnections between system components). Specifically, we first introduce the notion of a consequence, which is a syntactically unconstrained propositional sentence that characterizes all consistency-based diagnoses and show that standard characterizations of diagnoses, such as minimal conflicts, correspond to syntactic variations on a consequence. Second, we propose a new syntactic variation on the consequence known as negation normal form (NNF) and discuss its merits compared to standard variations. Third, we introduce a basic algorithm for computing consequences in NNF given a structured system description. We show that if the system structure does not contain cycles, then there is always a linear-size consequence in NNF which can be computed in linear time. For arbitrary system structures, we show a precise connection between the complexity of computing consequences and the topology of the underlying system structure. Finally, we present an algorithm that enumerates the preferred diagnoses characterized by a consequence. The algorithm is shown to take linear time in the size of the consequence if the preference criterion satisfies some general conditions.

OBJECTIVE: 1014 EEGs of children in the 3-months to 12-years age group were obtained during sleep with the purpose of assessing the frequency and amplitude gradient (FAG) its absence thought to be an indicator of neurological disorder. METHOD: FAG findings were divided into present/absent. The neurological findings were classified according to the presence (abnormal neurological finding-ANF) or absence (normal neurological finding-NNF) of neurological disorder. The association and significance between FAG and neurological findings was determined by prevalence ration (PR) and chi-square test (chi2). RESULTS: FAG showed a characteristic distributions of voltage output during non-REM sleep, stage II, in the 3-months to 5-years age group with NNF. The PR and the chi2 test demonstrated a strong association between FAG absent and ANF. CONCLUSION: FAG is an age-dependent EEG sleep parameter and absence of FAG in the 3-months to 5-years age group is highly suggestive of neurological disorder.

For several decades the US scientific community has recognized the value of pooling specialized skills and equipment in centralized user facilities. Significant efficiencies are realized within the user community by avoiding unnecessary duplication and by moving projects more quickly to completion. The user facility concept served the nanofabrication community well for over two decades at the National Nanofabrication Facility (NNF) at Cornell. In 1994, the National Science Foundation expanded the concept by integrating NNF-Cornell (Now CNF) with several other nanofabrication programs throughout the country to form the National Nanofabrication Users Network (NNUN). Within this framework of a “users” network, scientists and engineers have access to state of the art equipment and expertise.NNUN consists of two “full service” hub facilities at Cornell (the Cornell Nanofabrication Facility) and Stanford (the Stanford Nanofabrication Facility), in association with specialized facilities at Howard, Penn State and UC-Santa Barbara. The network is managed by the 5 site directors, who are responsible to NSF program management and to a Network Advisory Board.

Introduction: Persistent pulmonary hypertension (PPHN) or persistent fetal circulation (PFC) is a commonly encountered problem in neonatal and pediatric cardiac intensive care units and cause significant mortality and morbidity. Aim/Objective : To show the outcome of patient of PPHN treated by a cheap, locally available NNF protocol. Methods: It was a retrospective study conducted in pediatric cardiology department of a tertiary care hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh from February 2014 to March 2019. After diagnosis in noninvasive cardiac laboratory (NIC Lab), all cases were admitted in neonatal and pediatric cardiac intensive care units for specific management using NNF protocol. After 72 hours, echocardiography was repeated, and outcome was analyzed. Results: Out of total 494 cases, 80.56% cases were diagnosed at first week and 4.45% cases were diagnosed at 3rd week of life. Male patients (60.32%) outnumbered female. Babies were delivered by caesarean section in 92.31% cases. PPHN was found alone in 24.69% cases and rest along with other less severe congenital heart diseases. Severe pulmonary hypertension was observed in 63.56% cases. Right ventricular volume was increased in 93.52% cases. Hundred percent neonates were treated with high flow oxygen therapy by optiflow/ nasal cannula/ head box. Antifailure treatment was offered in 73.27% cases, pulmonary vasodilators in 59.51% cases, inotropes in 15.18% cases. Outcome of treatment was analyzed after 72 hours by repeat echocardiography. Four hundred and seventy one (95.34%) cases were cured completely and only 1.01% expired. Conclusion: PPHN is a life threatening condition in neonate only. Early diagnosis and proper management is must for survival. Management by low cost NNF protocol was found effective with 95.34% cure rate and only 1.01% mortality. The settlement drag coefficient of non-spherical particles (SDCNPs) is a crucial parameter in the field of petroleum engineering. Accurately predicting the SDCNPs in the fluid is essential to the selection and design of proppant and hydraulic design in the fracturing scheme. Although many models for anticipating the SDCNPs have been proposed, none of them can be adopted for non-Newtonian fluid (NNF) and Newtonian fluid (NF). In the investigation, the SDCNPs in NF and NNF are studied experimentally, and the anticipation mode of the settlement drag coefficient of spherical particles (SDCSPs) in different fluids (including Newton, Herschel-Bulkley and power law) is proposed. On this basis, the shape depiction parameter circularity is introduced to develop the SDCNPs. The results exhibit that the predicted values of the SDCNPs model perfectly align with the experimental values, and the average relative errors are 5.70%, 6.24% and 6.72%, respectively. The mode can accurately describe the settlement behavior of non-spherical particles (NSPs) and provide a basis for the application of NSPs in petroleum engineering.

Background Cervical screening programs use testing for human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes. Different HPV types differ greatly in prevalence and oncogenicity. We estimated the impact of cervical screening and follow-up for each HPV type. Methods and findings For each type of HPV, we calculated the number of women needed to screen (NNS) and number of women needing follow-up (NNF) to detect or prevent one cervical cancer case, using the following individual level input data (i) screening and cancer data for all women aged 25 to 80 years, resident in Sweden during 2004 to 2011 (N = 3,568,938); (ii) HPV type-specific prevalences and screening histories among women with cervical cancer in Sweden in 2002 to 2011(N = 4,254); (iii) HPV 16/18/other HPV prevalences in the population-based HPV screening program (N = 656,607); and (iv) exact HPV genotyping in a population-based cohort (n = 12,527). Historical screening attendance was associated with a 72% reduction of cervical cancer incidence caused by HPV16 (71.6%, 95% confidence interval (CI) [69.1%, 73.9%]) and a 54% reduction of cancer caused by HPV18 (53.8%, 95% CI [40.6%, 63.1%]). One case of HPV16-caused cervical cancer could be prevented for every 5,527 women attending screening (number needed to screen, NNS). Prevention of one case of HPV16-caused cervical cancer required follow-up of 147 HPV16–positive women (number needed to follow-up, NNF). The NNS and NNF were up to 40 to 500 times higher for HPV types commonly screened for with lower oncogenic potential (HPV35,39,51,56,59,66,68). For women below 30 years of age, NNS and NNF for HPV16 were 4,747 and 289, respectively, but >220,000 and >16,000 for HPV35,39,51,56,59,66,68. All estimates were either age-standarized or age-stratified. The primary limitation of our study is that NNS is dependent on the HPV prevalence that can differ between populations and over time. However, it can readily be recalculated in other settings and monitored when HPV type-specific prevalence changes. Other limitations include that in some age groups, there was little data and extrapolations had to be made. Finally, there were very few cervical cancer cases associated with certain HPV types in young age group. Conclusions In this study, we observed that the impact of cervical cancer screening varies depending on the HPV type screened for. Estimating and monitoring the impact of screening by HPV type can facilitate the design of effective and efficient HPV-based cervical screening programs. Nano-nitrogen fertilizers (NNFs) have emerged as a promising technology in the field of agriculture, offering potential solutions to improve nutrient uptake efficiency, enhance crop productivity, and reduce environmental impacts. NNFs showed superior characteristics and performance on crops and, therefore, became a potential alternative to conventional nitrogen (N) fertilizers. These fertilizers enhance plant uptake while simultaneously reducing environmental losses. For example, a hydroxy appetite-based urea NNF extended the N release for 112 days, which could cover the N demand of many perennial crops, thus reducing losses. The reported NNFs in this review increased the yield by 10–80% compared to conventional fertilizers. Additionally, their small particle size increases crop acclimation and decreases the application rate. With all these beneficial traits of NNFs, they potentially contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This review article summarizes the materials used in NNF formulation, methods of preparing NNFs, and their crop responses. Also, it highlights the limitations identified in the research studies and provides research recommendations for the future. Further, it provides a critical assessment of the current state of NNFs and their prospects for revolutionizing modern agriculture to attain SDGs.

We study different languages for representing nondeterministic actions in planning from the point of view of knowledge compilation. Precisely, we consider succintness issues (how succinct is the description of an action in each language?) and complexity issues (tractability or hardness of several queries which arise naturally in planning and belief tracking). We study an abstract, nondeterministic version of PDDL, nondeterministic conditional STRIPS, the language NNFAT of NNF action theories, and the language NPDDLseq obtained by adding a sequence operator to nondeterministic PDDL. We show that these languages have different succinctness and different complexity even for the most natural queries.

Purpose. This study aimed to investigate the application of the number of positive lymph nodes (PLNs) in tumor, node, metastasis (TNM) staging system of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Patients and Methods. We screened a total of 15820 patients with resected NSCLC between 2004 and 2015 from SEER database. The X-tile model was used to determine the cutoff values of the number of PLNs. Overall survival (OS) curves were plotted using the Kaplan–Meier method, and the differences among the individual groups were defined using the log-rank test. Cox regression model was used to perform univariate and multivariate analyses and to assess the association between the number of PLNs and OS. Results. In this study, using the X-tile model, we screened three different cutoff values, including nN0, nN1–3, and nN4-. Survival curves demonstrated that our defined nN stage had a significant predictive value for OS ( P < 0.001 ). In the univariate and multivariate Cox analyses, the result showed that nN stage was a significant prognostic factor of OS for NSCLC patients ( P < 0.001 ). Subsequently, we classified the patients into five subgroups based on the combination of pN and nN stages, including pN0 + nN0, pN1 + nN1-3, pN2 + nN1-3, pN1 + nN4-, and pN2 + nN4-. Moreover, survival curves revealed significant differences among these five groups ( P < 0.001 ). Conclusion. A combination of pathological LNs (pN) and the number of LN (nN) involvement in NSCLC patients had a better prognostic value than the current TNM staging system based on only pN stage.

This paper describes the study and analysis of different techniques for online solar irradiance prediction algorithms to properly estimate over the 24 hours of the next day in the “Universidad Militar Nueva Granada” (UMNG) campus at Cajicá, Colombia, in order to use predictions for a model predicted control of a DC-micro grid. These models were designed and tested using MATLAB® software. The performance of models were evaluated and compared among them to determine the best forecasting approach for Cajicá. The absence of seasons and the noisy solar irradiance time series caused by cloudy covering as perturbation are the main particularity of the Cajicá’s climate behavior. A meteorological database from 2010 to 2014 was used to estimate or train the model of prediction ARMAX and NNF, NAR, NARX as Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), which were compared with error criteria such as square and absolute error criteria.

Abe (2010) argues that the Negotiation of Form (NF) instruction exerts positive effects on learning of connected speech by Japanese learners of English, finding that the progres achieved with NF was more significant than for the traditional treatment. The study reported here seeks to uncover the acquisitional value of NF in a Polish classroom. The study hypothesizes that NF, in comparison with the deductive teaching method, effectively promotes learning of assimilation, elision and weak forms. The hypothesis was tested by investigating production and perception of 50 Polish students of English. As for evaluating the effects of the two types of instructions, a classic pretest-posttest design was used. With regard to methodology, acoustic analysis was performed. The results demonstrate that in general, NF proved more effective than NNF. With regard to individual processes of connected speech, NF was more effective in production, whereas no such effect was found for perception.

Abstract In 3D computer graphics, ray tracing is an essential technique for modeling light transport for use in a wide variety of rendering algorithms for generating digital images. And it is also an important subject for computer science students who want to discover more in Computer Graphics and image rendering. In this project the author implemented a fundamental light tracing system based on C++ in visual studio. It is able to render a delicate image with an input of a nnf model file, and output a ppm file, as a final assignment of a student computer graphics research program. This paper is divided into two chapters. The first chapter is about some fundamental theories that are critical to light tracing. The second chapter is about detailed design and implementation process of the program. And the final chapter is about some actual problems and effective solutions.

This paper presents the results of shake table tests of a scaled long span cable-stayed bridge (CSB). The design principles of the scaled CSB are first introduced. The first six in-plane modes are then identified by the stochastic subspace identification (SSI) method. Furthermore, shake table tests of the CSB subjected to the non-pulse near-field (NNF) and velocity-pulse near-fault (PNF) ground motions are carried out. The tests indicated that: (1) the responses under longitudinal uniform excitation are mainly contributed by antisymmetric modes; (2) the maximum displacement of the tower occurs on the tower top node, the maximum acceleration response of the tower occurs on the middle cross beam, and the maximum bending moment of the tower occurs on the bottom section; (3) the deformation of the tower and girder subjected to uniform excitation is not always larger than that subjected to non-uniform excitation, and therefore the non-uniform case should be considered in the seismic design of CSBs.

The nannoplankton research was conducted in the MH-2 well, Banggai-Sula Basin, Central Sulawesi. Thirty-four ditch-cutting samples were utilized to observe the Minahaki, Kintom, and Biak Formations. Age determination was carried out using biostratigraphy method and standard procedure for first and last occurrence of nannoplankton biodatum and had an absolute age, widely known as a zone indicator. This study aims to determine the age and nannoplankton biozonation of each geological formation in Banggai-Sula Basin. Based on the biostratigraphic analysis, 39 species from 14 genera with abundance frequencies ranging from rare to abundant were found in the MH-2 well. In this study, new results of the age of Banggai-Sula Basin areMiddle Miocene – Early Middle Pliocene (13,706 – 3,727 Ma), and can identify into six calcareous nannoplankton zones that are more detailed than previous researchers, Discoaster signus zone (NN5), Discoaster exilis zone (NN6-NN7), Discoaster berggrenii zone (NN11), Ceratolithus acustus zone (NN12), Helicosphaera sellii zone (NN13-NN15), and the Discoaster tamalis zone (NN16). Biostratigraphic data also shows new information for the first time, the absence of three zones from zone NN8 to zone NN10. This result indicates an unconformity in the Late Miocene age (10.606–8.20 Ma).

Constraint Satisfaction Problems (CSPs) offer a powerful framework for representing a great variety of problems. The difficulty is that most of the requests associated with CSPs are NP-hard. When these requests have to be addressed online, Multivalued Decision Diagrams (MDDs) have been proposed as a way to compile CSPs. In the present paper, we draw a compilation map of MDDs, in the spirit of the NNF compilation map, analyzing MDDs according to their succinctness and to their tractable transformations and queries. Deterministic ordered MDDs are a generalization of ordered binary decision diagrams to non-Boolean domains: unsurprisingly, they have similar capabilities. More interestingly, our study puts forward the interest of non-deterministic ordered MDDs: when restricted to Boolean domains, they capture OBDDs and DNFs as proper subsets and have performances close to those of DNNFs. The comparison to classical, deterministic MDDs shows that relaxing the determinism requirement leads to an increase in succinctness and allows more transformations to be satisfied in polynomial time (typically, the disjunctive ones). Experiments on random problems confirm the gain in succinctness.

The National Nanofabrication Facility began in 1977 out of the scientific community's recognition of a national need for an openly accessible resource in microfabrication. The NNF was then known as the National Research and Resource Facility for Submicron Structures (NRRFSS). In establishing the NRRFSS, Cornell University and the National Science Foundation launched an ambitious experiment both in an advanced technology and in a new research methodology. The current charter of the facility, which differs little from NRRFSS' original charter, is to:∎ Develop state-of-the-art instrumentation and processes for fabrication and characterization of structures at dimensions below 100 nm.∎ Provide for both nanofabrication and microfabrication a national facility that is available to any qualified researcher from U.S. universities, industry, and federal laboratories.∎ Aggressively pursue applications of nanofabrication techniques in a broad spectrum of engineering and scientific disciplines.∎ Train students, scientists, and engineers in nanofabrication and microfabrication and their applications.∎ Transfer nanofabrication technology and information to the research and development communities.To meet these goals, faculty involved with the NRRFSS committed themselves to establishing a world-class research center. They hired staff, purchased equipment, built a new building, attracted new students and faculty, and began innovative research that either utilized microfabrication techniques or advanced those techniques.

Abstract Objectives We aimed to compare the currently used nodal staging system (pN) with the number of metastatic lymph node (LN) stations (sN) and the number of metastatic LNs (nN) on survival in patients with NSCLC. Methods Between 2010 and 2017, 1038 patients resected for NSCLC were analyzed. We performed three-different stratifications of LN status assessment: pN-category (pN0, pN1 and pN2); sN-category (sN0, sN1; one station metastasis, sN2; two-three stations metastases, and sN3; ≥ 4 stations metastasis); nN-category (nN0, nN1; one-three LNs metastasis, nN2; four-six Lns metastasis, and nN3; ≥ 7 LNs metastasis). Results Five-year survival rate was 70.1% for N0 in all classifications. It was 54.3% for pN1, and 26.4% for pN2 (p < 0.0001). Five-year survival rates for N1, N2, and N3 categories were 54.1%, 42.4% and 16.1% according to sN, and 51.4%, 36.1%, and 7.9% according to nN, respectively (p < 0.0001). In multivariate analysis, sN and nN were independent risk factors such as pN (p < 0.0001). Hazard ratios versus N0 for N1, N2, and N3 were more significant for sN and nN than pN (1.597, 2.176, and, 3.883 for sN, 1.645, 2.658, and, 4.118 for nN, and 1.576, 3.222 for pN, respectively). When the subcategories of sN and nN were divided into pN1 and pN2 subgroups, the anatomic location of the LN involvement lost importance as tumor burden and tumor spreading increased. Conclusion The number of metastatic LN stations and the number of metastatic LNs are better prognostic factors than currently used nodal classification in NSCLC.

The rise of GPS-equipped mobile devices has led to the emergence of big trajectory data. The collected raw data usually contain errors and anomalies information caused by device failure, sensor error, and environment influence. Low-quality data fails to support application requirements and therefore raw data will be comprehensively cleaned before usage. Existing methods are suboptimal to detect GPS data errors and do the repairing. To solve the problem, we propose a framework called GPSClean to analyze the anomalies data and develop effective methods to repair the data. There are primarily four modules in GPSClean : (i) data preprocessing, (ii) data filling, (iii) data repairing, and (iv) data conversion. For (i), we propose an approach named MDSort (Maximum Disorder Sorting) to efficiently solve the issue of data disorder. For (ii), we propose a method named NNF (Nearest Neighbor Filling) to fill missing data. For (iii), we design an approach named RCSWS (Range Constraints and Sliding Window Statistics) to repair anomalies and also improve the accuracy of data repairing by mak7ing use of driving direction. We use 45 million real trajectory data to evaluate our proposal in a prototype database system SECONDO. Experimental results show that the accuracy of RCSWS is three times higher than an alternative method SCREEN and nearly an order of magnitude higher than an alternative method EWMA.
