Hupel, Erwan. "Gwalarn : Histoire d’un mouvement littéraire en Bretagne." Rennes 2, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010REN20026.
Повний текст джерелаThis thesis examines the history of the literary movement emerged in Brittany around the revue GWALARN, published from 1925 to 1944. According to the general opinion, the influence of WALARN on the Breton language and Breton literature today is considerable, but very differently appreciated. This thesis emphasizes the collective aspect of the work. It doesn’t deny the overwhelming influence of the editor of the magazine, Roparz Hemon, but intends to propose a detailed structural analysis of the movement as it’s been (and sometimes hasn’t been) in touch with the people of the times. This analysis attempts to describe the origins of the movement, its birth, its assumptions, but also its literary work and its favourite themes, and its sociolinguistic achievements and strategic choices. Therefore, we notice some ideological issues : the gap between localism and universalism, and between tradition and modernism, the different vues about literature, about Breton as a language and about nationalism. . . We’ve tried to study GWALARN not only in the light of the Breton sociolinguistic situation at the time but also in the light of the french one, in a general European movement of nationalist and linguistic demands and in a global geopolitical situation that built the fate of the breton movement from World War I to World War II. Thus, the multiplication of perspectives offers a new look over a key moment in Breton literature and provides contemporary and reflective materials for the history of linguistic minorities in Europe
Caradec, Nathalie. "La notion de territoire dans la poésie bretonne de langue française contemporaine." Rennes 2, 2002. http://www.theses.fr/2002REN20068.
Повний текст джерелаContemporary Breton poetry, in the French language, gives much importance to the notion of territory, understood as meaning the geographical areas, landscapes or even certain places, all within the region of Brittany. The Breton identity is defined by several characteristics, one of which is the strong tie to the Brittany region or territory. With poets published since the Second World War, this theme is explicitly present, with the toponym precisely, or implicitly, locating the setting evoked. In our study of the notion of territory in contemporary Breton poetry, in the French language, we have chosen a thematic reading, to precisely define the different ways of evoking the region. This notion is examined in three main lines : land, water, a lost or re-found territory. Certain poets evoke the territory as linked to the land and more precisely to the forest or the Mounts of Arrée ; others emphasize the territory as linked to water in a varied spectrum of marshes, islands or rivers. Finally, the territory can be perceived within the framework
Morvan, Françoise, and François-Marie Luzel. "Une expérience de collectage en Basse-Bretagne : François-Marie Luzel : (1821-1895)." Rennes 2, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997REN20036.
Повний текст джерелаThe @folklorist François-Marie Luzel (1821-1895) is known for having put together the largest existing collection of West Breton folktales, popular dramas and folksongs. Nonetheless, for ever a century, his work remained largely unpublished and ignored by researchers, and a biography, bibliography and catalogue of his archives had yet to be done. This thesis aims first and foremost to provide an overview of the publication project, now in progress, of a 24-volume methodical edition of Luzel's works, and -now that 12 volumes have been completed - to give a detailed account of what has been so far achieved : this includes explaining the purpose of this publication, describing its approach, pointing out omissions and planning the contents and order of publication of the remaining volumes. This edition being necessarily based on preliminary and complementary research, the second aim of this thesis is to provide a synthesis of all existing knowledge on the subject, thanks to a biography, a bibliography, a catalogue of archives and a computerized classification of Luzel's works. The third aim of this thesis is to place this edition within a historical context. Indeee, it had to be explained on one hand why, during the past century, it had been consistently impossible to prepare a methodical edition of Luzel's works, and on the other, why the Breton nationalists were opposed to this edition. In conclusion, the principal interest of this publication seems to be the opportunity it provides to study nationalist rhetoric
Loarer, Tristan. "Broadelouriezh en IIIde Emsav : évolution de la notion de nationalisme dans la littérature écrite en langue bretonne de 1954 à 1970." Thesis, Rennes 2, 2022. http://www.theses.fr/2022REN20010.
Повний текст джерелаThe decade following the end of World War II failed to rebuild, in Brittany, the popular emulation that certain “nationalist” militants could have wished for around the question of the specific Breton identity. However, between 1954 and the turn of the year 1970, a real transformation took place in the perception that the Bretons themselves had of their own identity. This perception is questioned, redefined, it is structured and induces the design of tools which uses will later mark out the political, social and cultural demands that will result in the important post-1970 cultural and social revival. This national discourse, from a nucleus of Breton activists, will gradually spread to a large part of the Breton population, Breton speaking people or not. The relevance of the notion of nation to Brittany has long been supported, argued as well as criticized and fought in the context of a “one and indivisible’’ French Republic. The object of this research work is to shed light on the evolution of this notion, with regards to the analysis of an exhaustive corpus which only includes literary works in the Breton language written during the chosen period, whatever the places or the periods of writing and publishing. It will therefore be a question of defining the criteria of what makes literature a regional, national or international subject. This dissertation proposes to analyse these writings on what sometimes appears to be a simple attachment to the territory, sometimes to be the reflection of more emancipatory political approaches, akin to the wave of decolonisation that is overwhelming the world in this second half of the twentieth century

Повний текст джерелаHow are maps used in a specific country at a given time? In this thesis, I argue that maps should be given greater prominence in historical analysis because they give us a fresh outlook on the past by informing us about representations of the world. To prove this point, I explore the links between cartography, imperialism and nationalism in Great Britain and France between 1870 and 1914. I provide an original view of the turn of the twentieth century by articulating three different approaches: a cartographic one, a comparative one and a panoramic one (due to the variety of the published materials analyzed from geographical journals to atlases, text-books and newspapers). From this history of cartographic thinking, three things emerge. First, British and French geographers converted maps into scientific and political symbols in order to underline the need to study geography from 1870-71 in France and from 1884 in Britain. Second, they disseminated these symbols and a new cartographic mode of thinking about the world to a wide audience thanks to new printing devices and the spread of education with the hope of forming citizens. Finally, they were able to use maps of empire more specifically to promote nationalism. My conclusion is two-fold. First, the comparative nature of the study reveals a process of imitation between the two nations in exploration, imperialism, geography teaching and the contents of their maps. Second, the use of maps became so important between 1870 and 1914 because the two countries faced periods of doubts linked to an economic depression, international rivalries, the scramble for colonies, the Franco-Prussian War and the Boer War

Повний текст джерелаFor both linguistic and ethnology, the main distinction between the oral and the writing is based on the way of memorizing and transmitting cultural events. The writing, view as externalisation of intern memory, would allow to "plan" the message and to memorize it verbatim. In this thesis, I attempt to study the relationship between type of memory and medium from Brittany oral literature. A workfield in Brittany and a transdisciplinary approach (sociolinguistic, ethnologic and psychologic) allowed showing that oral (i. E. Message elaboration and restitution) does not seem to necessary imply an exclusive reconstructive or semantic memory type. The memory seems to be linked to the context in which it forms and builds up and to the domain-object views as having a specific organisation, which implies a way of memorizing

Повний текст джерелаIt is possible to trace the history of relations between literature and photography in england and france (1839-1939) de received opinion grounded on a narrow definition of photography. The major encounters between writers and photographers reveal a photo-literary tradition where photography leads not to the real world objectively transcribed by the camera bu the imaginary, in accordance with idealist preoccupations (neoplatonism, christianity), and show the inadequacy of contemporary theory, centred on the supposed "ontology" of the photographic image that makes it a reminder of death. In england, literary photography (robinson, cameron, coburn) gives rise not to simple illustration but, when interpreted in the context of the whole work in which they are inserted - an interpretation till now unattempted -, to subjective readings, where the photographs create their own fictions or represent what the characters see. In france, marey's chronophotography led valery to use an objective, scientific photography to relinquish the immobile time of symbolism and approach subjective time ; whilst breton, using freudian psychoanalysis and, even more, the remains of christian idealism, invests ordinary photography with all the powers of dream. The popular photo-novel reveals, on the contrary,a misuse of photography's reality-effect. Rodenbach's undervalued work serves to demonstrate, in le regne du silence, through the use of photographic metaphors and situations, the suspect idealism of the "theory of spectres", and to suggest in bruges-la-morte, where text and photographs together constitute a totally new kind of novel - revealed by the first ever analysis of the negatives, vari and retouching -, the pathological nature of the association between photography on the one hand, and melancholy and the reminder of death on the other
