NAC transcription factors (TFs) are plant-specific TFs that play essential roles in plant development; however, the function of NAC TFs in loquat development remains unknown. The natural triploid loquat (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.), Longquan No.1. B355, has larger organs than its corresponding diploid loquat (B2). Here, we cloned an NAC-like TF (EjNACL47 (NAC-like 47)) from the cDNA of triploid loquat B355 flowers. EjNACL47 has a conserved domain of NAC TFs and is homologous to AtNAC47. Transient expression in tobacco leaves revealed that EjNACL47 localized to the nucleus, and yeast-two-hybrid screening confirmed that the C-terminus displayed transcriptional activity. Interestingly, real-time qRT-PCR indicated that the expression levels of EjNACL47 in leaves and flower organs in triploid loquat (B355) were higher than those in diploid loquat (B2), implying that EjNACL47 might be associated with the larger organ size in B355. Moreover, Arabidopsis lines ectopically expressing EjNACL47 presented obviously larger leaves, flowers, and siliques than the wild-type variant, suggesting that EjNACL47 plays a positive role in Arabidopsis organ enlargement. These results offer insight into the molecular mechanism of NAC TFs involved in regulating organ size in loquat.

The NAC (NAM, ATAF1/2, and CUC2) family of proteins is one of the largest plant-specific transcription factor (TF) families and its members play varied roles in plant growth, development, and stress responses. In recent years, NAC TFs have been demonstrated to participate in crop-pathogen interactions, as positive or negative regulators of the downstream defense-related genes. NAC TFs link signaling pathways between plant hormones, including salicylic acid (SA), jasmonic acid (JA), ethylene (ET), and abscisic acid (ABA), or other signals, such as reactive oxygen species (ROS), to regulate the resistance against pathogens. Remarkably, NAC TFs can also contribute to hypersensitive response and stomatal immunity or can be hijacked as virulence targets of pathogen effectors. Here, we review recent progress in understanding the structure, biological functions and signaling networks of NAC TFs in response to pathogens in several main food crops, such as rice, wheat, barley, and tomato, and explore the directions needed to further elucidate the function and mechanisms of these key signaling molecules.

The NAC transcription factor (TF) family is one of the largest plant-specific TF families and its members are involved in the regulation of many vital biological processes during plant growth and development. Recent studies have found that NAC TFs play important roles during the ripening of fleshy fruits and the development of quality attributes. This review focuses on the advances in our understanding of the function of NAC TFs in different fruits and their involvement in the biosynthesis and signal transduction of plant hormones, fruit textural changes, color transformation, accumulation of flavor compounds, seed development and fruit senescence. We discuss the theoretical basis and potential regulatory models for NAC TFs action and provide a comprehensive view of their multiple roles in modulating different aspects of fruit ripening and quality.

TFs (transcription factors) are modular proteins minimally containing a DBD (DNA-binding domain) and a TRD (transcription regulatory domain). NAC [for NAM (no apical meristem), ATAF, CUC (cup-shaped cotyledon)] proteins comprise one of the largest plant TF families. They are key regulators of stress perception and developmental programmes, and most share an N-terminal NAC domain. On the basis of analyses of gene expression data and the phylogeny of Arabidopsis thaliana NAC TFs we systematically decipher structural and functional specificities of the conserved NAC domains and the divergent C-termini. Nine of the ten NAC domains analysed bind a previously identified conserved DNA target sequence with a CGT[GA] core, although with different affinities. Likewise, all but one of the NAC proteins analysed is dependent on the C-terminal region for transactivational activity. In silico analyses show that the NAC TRDs contain group-specific sequence motifs and are characterized by a high degree of intrinsic disorder. Furthermore, ANAC019 was identified as a new positive regulator of ABA (abscisic acid) signalling, conferring ABA hypersensitivity when ectopically expressed in plants. Interestingly, ectopic expression of the ANAC019 DBD or TRD alone also resulted in ABA hypersensitivity. Expression of stress-responsive marker genes [COR47 (cold-responsive 47), RD29b (responsive-to-desiccation 29b) and ERD11 (early-responsive-to-dehydration 11)] were also induced by full-length and truncated ANAC019. Domain-swapping experiments were used to analyse the specificity of this function. Chimaeric proteins, where the NAC domain of ANAC019 was replaced with the analogous regions from other NAC TFs, also have the ability to positively regulate ABA signalling. In contrast, replacing the ANAC019 TRD with other TRDs abolished ANAC019-mediated ABA hypersensitivity. In conclusion, our results demonstrate that the biochemical and functional specificity of NAC TFs is associated with both the DBDs and the TRDs.

NAC (NAM, ATAF1-2, and CUC2) transcription factors (TFs) play a vital role in plant growth and development, as well as in plant response to biotic and abiotic stressors (Duan et al., 2019; Guerin et al., 2019). Chrysanthemum is a plant with strong stress resistance and adaptability; therefore, a systematic study of NAC TFs in chrysanthemum is of great significance for plant breeding. In this study, 153 putative NAC TFs were identified based on the Chrysanthemum nankingense genome. According to the NAC family in Arabidopsis and rice, a rootless phylogenetic tree was constructed, in which the 153 CnNAC TFs were divided into two groups and 19 subfamilies. Moreover, the expression levels of 12 CnNAC TFs belonging to the OsNAC7 subfamily were analyzed in C. nankingense under osmotic and salt stresses, and different tissues were tested during different growth periods. The results showed that these 12 OsNAC7 subfamily members were involved in the regulation of root and stem growth, as well as in the regulation of drought and salt stresses. Finally, we investigated the function of the CHR00069684 gene, and the results showed that CHR00069684 could confer improved salt and low temperature resistance, enhance ABA sensitivity, and lead to early flowering in tobacco. It was proved that members of the OsNAC7 subfamily have dual functions including the regulation of resistance and the mediation of plant growth and development. This study provides comprehensive information on analyzing the function of CnNAC TFs, and also reveals the important role of OsNAC7 subfamily genes in response to abiotic stress and the regulation of plant growth. These results provide new ideas for plant breeding to control stress resistance and growth simultaneously.

Research Highlights: Sequence phylogeny, genome organisation, gene structure, conserved motifs, promoter cis-element and expression profiling of poplar NACs related to salt stress were detected. In addition, expression of two salt-induced NACs was analysed. Background and Objectives: NAC transcription factor (TF) proteins are involved in a wide range of functions during plant development and stress-related endurance processes. To understand the function of Populus NAC TFs in salt stress tolerance, we characterised the structure and expression profile of a total of 289 NAC members. Materials and Methods: Sequence phylogeny, genome organisation, gene structure, motif composition and promoter cis-element were detected using bioinformatics. The expression pattern of Populus NAC TFs under salt stress was also detected using RNA-Seq and RT-qPCR. Results: Synteny analysis showed that 46 and 37 Populus NAC genes were involved in whole-genome duplication and tandem duplication events, respectively. The expression pattern of Populus NAC TFs under salt stress showed the expression of the 289 PtNACs of 84K poplar was induced. Similar expression trends of NACs were found in Populus simonii × P. nigra T. S. Hwang et Liang and Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh. Conclusions: The correlation analysis showed that the expression of two differentially expressed NAC genes PtNAC024 and PtNAC182 was significantly associated with most of the 63 differentially expressed genes tested. The expression of PtNAC024 and PtNAC182 in different tissues was also analysed in silico and different expression patterns were found. Together, this study provides a solid basis to explore stress-related NAC TF functions in Populus salt tolerance and development.

Rice (Oryza sativa) responds to various abiotic stresses during growth. Plant-specific NAM, ATAF1/2, and CUC2 (NAC) transcription factors (TFs) play an important role in controlling numerous vital growth and developmental processes. To date, 170 NAC TFs have been reported in rice, but their roles remain largely unknown. Herein, we discovered that the TF OsNAC006 is constitutively expressed in rice, and regulated by H2O2, cold, heat, abscisic acid (ABA), indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), gibberellin (GA), NaCl, and polyethylene glycol (PEG) 6000 treatments. Furthermore, knockout of OsNAC006 using the CRISPR-Cas9 system resulted in drought and heat sensitivity. RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) transcriptome analysis revealed that OsNAC006 regulates the expression of genes mainly involved in response to stimuli, oxidoreductase activity, cofactor binding, and membrane-related pathways. Our findings elucidate the important role of OsNAC006 in drought responses, and provide valuable information for genetic manipulation to enhance stress tolerance in future plant breeding programs.

Research Highlights: Phenotypic changes and expression profiles, phylogeny, conserved motifs, and expression correlations of NAC (NAM, ATAF1, ATAF2 and CUC2) transcription factors (TFs) in blueberry genome were detected under drought stress, and the expression patterns and functions of 12 NACs were analyzed. Background and Objectives: Blueberry is an important shrub species with a high level of flavonoids in fruit, which are implicated in a broad range of health benefits. However, the molecular mechanism of this shrub species in response to drought stress still remains elusive. NAC TFs widely participate in stress tolerance in many plant species. The characterization and expression profiles of NAC TFs were analyzed on the basis of genome data in blueberry when subjected to drought stress. Materials and Methods: Combined with the analysis of chlorophyll a fluorescence and endogenous phytohormones, the phenotypic changes of blueberry under drought stress were observed. The phylogenetic tree, conserved motifs, differently expressed genes, and expression correlation were determined by means of multiple bioinformatics analysis. The expression profiles of NACs in different organs were examined and compared through RNA-seq and qRT-PCR assay. Results: The chlorophyll a fluorescence parameters φPo, φEo, φRo, and PIabs of leaves were significantly inhibited under drought stress. ABA (abscisic acid) content noticeably increased over the duration of drought, whereas GA3 (gibberellic acid) and IAA (indole acetic acid) content decreased continuously. A total of 158 NACs were identified in blueberry genome and 62 NACs were differently expressed in leaf and root of blueberry under drought stress. Among them, 14 NACs were significantly correlated with the expression of other NAC genes. Conclusions: Our results revealed the phenotypic changes of this shrub under drought stress and linked them with NAC TFs, which are potentially involved in the process of response to drought stress.

Senescence in plants involves massive nutrient relocation and age-related cell death. Characterization of the molecular components, such as transcription factors (TFs), involved in these processes is required to understand senescence. We found that HvNAC005 and HvNAC013 of the plant-specific NAC (NAM, ATAF1,2, CUC) TF family are up-regulated during senescence in barley (Hordeum vulgare). Both HvNAC005 and HvNAC013 bound the conserved NAC DNA target sequence. Computational and biophysical analyses showed that both proteins are intrinsically disordered in their large C-terminal domains, which are transcription regulatory domains (TRDs) in many NAC TFs. Using motif searches and interaction studies in yeast we identified an evolutionarily conserved sequence, the LP motif, in the TRD of HvNAC013. This motif was sufficient for transcriptional activity. In contrast, HvNAC005 did not function as a transcriptional activator suggesting that an involvement of HvNAC013 and HvNAC005 in senescence will be different. HvNAC013 interacted with barley radical-induced cell death 1 (RCD1) via the very C-terminal part of its TRD, outside of the region containing the LP motif. No significant secondary structure was induced in the HvNAC013 TRD upon interaction with RCD1. RCD1 also interacted with regions dominated by intrinsic disorder in TFs of the MYB and basic helix-loop-helix families. We propose that RCD1 is a regulatory protein capable of interacting with many different TFs by exploiting their intrinsic disorder. In addition, we present the first structural characterization of NAC C-terminal domains and relate intrinsic disorder and sequence motifs to activity and protein-protein interactions.

NAC (NAM, ATAF1/2, and CUC2) transcription factors (TFs) are one of the largest plant-specific TF families and play a pivotal role in adaptation to abiotic stresses. The genome-wide analysis of NAC TFs is still absent in Zanthoxylum bungeanum. Here, 109 ZbNAC proteins were identified from the Z. bungeanum genome and were classified into four groups with Arabidopsis NAC proteins. The 109 ZbNAC genes were unevenly distributed on 46 chromosomes and included 4 tandem duplication events and 17 segmental duplication events. Synteny analysis of six species pairs revealed the closely phylogenetic relationship between Z. bungeanum and C. sinensis. Twenty-four types of cis-elements were identified in the ZbNAC promoters and were classified into three types: abiotic stress, plant growth and development, and response to phytohormones. Co-expression network analysis of the ZbNACs revealed 10 hub genes, and their expression levels were validated by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Finally, ZbNAC007, ZbNAC018, ZbNAC047, ZbNAC072, and ZbNAC079 were considered the pivotal NAC genes for drought tolerance in Z. bungeanum. This study represented the first genome-wide analysis of the NAC family in Z. bungeanum, improving our understanding of NAC proteins and providing useful information for molecular breeding of Z. bungeanum.

TLS (Transport Layer Security), protocolo de segurança que opera acima do TCP/IP e abaixo das aplicações de alto nível, é um protocolo amplamente utilizado e aceito na World Wide Web para fornecer privacidade, integridade e autenticidade dos dados. Para a realização de aplicações a bordo de aeronaves, tais como, e-commerce e transações financeiras, o uso do TLS é bastante recomendado. No entanto, o desempenho deste protocolo nas redes de dados aeronáuticas poderá ser degradado se o protocolo TCP não for alterado, pois o mesmo não consegue distinguir entre as perdas causadas pelos erros de transmissão no canal daquelas devido a congestionamento. Este trabalho propõe mudanças no TCP que visam melhorar seu desempenho em ambientes sem fio, tipicamente das redes aeronáuticas, e analisa o desempenho do TLS na presença deste TCP modificado.

Long-term motor skill learning has been consistently shown to result in functional as well as structural changes in the adult human brain. However, the effect of short learning periods on brain structure is not well understood. In the present study, subjects performed a sequential pinch force task (SPFT) for 20 min on 5 consecutive days. Changes in brain structure were evaluated with anatomical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans acquired on the first and last day of motor skill learning. Behaviorally, the SPFT resulted in sequence-specific learning with the trained (right) hand. Structural gray matter (GM) alterations in left M1, right ventral premotor cortex (PMC) and right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) correlated with performance improvements in the SPFT. More specifically we found that subjects with strong sequence-specific performance improvements in the SPFT also had larger increases in GM volume in the respective brain areas. On the other hand, subjects with small behavioral gains either showed no change or even a decrease in GM volume during the time course of learning. Furthermore, cerebellar GM volume before motor skill learning predicted (A) individual learning-related changes in the SPFT and (B) the amount of structural changes in left M1, right ventral PMC and DLPFC. In summary, we provide novel evidence that short-term motor skill learning is associated with learning-related structural brain alterations. Additionally, we showed that practicing a motor skill is not exclusively accompanied by increased GM volume. Instead, bidirectional structural alterations explained the variability of the individual learning success.

The Triode Magnetron Sputtering (TMS) is a system of depositing film characterized by the introduction of a third electrode, which is made up of a grounded mobile screen, located between the cathode (target) and the anode (substrate). The purpose of this screen is to capture cold electrons (at a lower energy level) of discharge. Changing its relative position to the cathode, some of the characteristics of the plasma are changed such as the ignition tension. Based on this, a study was made investigating the relationship between the current and the target voltage by changing the positioning of the screen to the target. Through this study, we could verify that, it s possible to work independently with either of above parameters of deposition. As a result of controlling these parameters, we could verify that the deposition of quality metallic films is possible, by using a TMS equipment on polymeric substrates. By choosing the suitable conditions of deposition, based on a preliminary study, a deposition of Al film on a poly(ethylene terephthalate) substrate was made. It was observed through this study that these films prove to be structurally whole and with few faults. The maintenance of a constant current (0,5A) fir deposition of Al films on polymeric substrates indicates that the change in voltage alters mainly the deposition energy particles, not significantly the superficial property of films. We can still observe that the rate of deposition does not alter significantly with voltage increase, what is evidenced by the little temperature increase in the samples. The Al films deposited submitted to a constant voltage (-700V) displayed a distinct superficial topography due to the current used. The current variation influence was verified notably for the final structure of the deposited film. Besides this, this parameter is directly related to the deposition rate, this being responsible for a temperature increase of the sample caused by increase of condensation heat of deposited atoms. Thus we can say that the sample temperature is more influenced by target current than by target voltage. So, we can observe that depositions made under constant current cause less aggression to polymer and to deposited film than those made under constant voltage. Through TMS, it is possible to control deposition condition and consequently the deposition rate in an accurate way. This makes this method an efficient alternative to metallic film deposition. In view of above, an application of the study of deposited film on polymers was made, altering either the current or voltage of target. Films of Al an Inconel were deposited on Mylar® , a type of PET, with the purpose of investigating film behavior concerning its attenuation characteristics of 4 incident electromagnetic energy. This application range is very wide, including aerospace equipment, radars an so on. When the rate of deposition for the condition used is known, the thickness of film can be altered by varying the time of deposition. A study was conducted of the influence of layer thickness and film material (Al or Inconel) on the characteristics of attenuation of electromagnetic wave energy. According to studies, it was observed that deposited layer thickness and film material influenced attenuating characteristics, so that Al and Inconel deposited films showed a maximum 13% attenuation. This leads us into believing that metallic films can be used with electromagnetic radiation absorbing materials, as long as ideal work thickness and its intrinsic characteristics are known.
O Triodo Magnetron Sputtering (TMS) é um sistema de deposição de filmes caracterizado pela introdução de um terceiro eletrodo, que é constituído de uma tela móvel aterrada, situado entre o catodo (alvo) e o anodo (substrato). Esta tela tem o papel de capturar elétrons frios (menos energéticos) da descarga. Alterando-se a posição relativa desta tela ao catodo, alteram-se algumas das características do plasma como, por exemplo, a tensão de ignição. Baseado nisso, realizou-se um estudo investigando-se a relação entre a corrente e a voltagem do alvo alterando-se a posição relativa da tela ao alvo. Por meio deste estudo, pode-se verificar que é possível tornar independentes estes dois parâmetros de deposição para uma determinada faixa de trabalho. Devido ao controle destes parâmetros, verificou-se que é possível depositar filmes metálicos de qualidade, utilizando um equipamento de TMS sobre substratos poliméricos. Através da escolha adequada das condições de deposição, baseadas no estudo realizado anteriormente, realizou-se a deposição de filmes de Al sobre um substrato de poli(Tereftalato de Etileno). Pode-se observar por meio deste estudo que estes filmes apresentam-se estruturalmente íntegros e com pouca quantidade de defeitos. As deposições de filmes de Al sobre substratos poliméricos mantendo-se a corrente constante (0,5A) indica que a mudança na voltagem altera principalmente a energia das partículas que se depositam, não modificando de forma significativa as propriedades superficiais dos filmes. Pode-se observar ainda que a razão de deposição não sofre alterações significativas com o aumento da voltagem, o que é evidenciado pela pequena elevação da temperatura sofrida pelas amostras. Os filmes de Al depositados sob voltagem constante (-700V) apresentaram topografia superficial distinta em função da corrente utilizada. Pode-se verificar que a variação da corrente influencia de forma significativa a estrutura final do filme depositado. Além disso, este parâmetro está diretamente relacionado com a razão de deposição, sendo este o fator responsável pelo aumento na temperatura da amostra devido a elevação no calor de condensação dos átomos que se depositam. Pode-se desta forma, dizer que a temperatura da amostra é mais influenciada pela corrente que pela voltagem do alvo. Assim, é possível observar que deposições realizadas sob corrente constante provocam menor agressão ao polímero e ao filme depositado que aquelas realizadas sob voltagem constante. Por meio do TMS, é possível controlar-se as condições de deposição e conseqüentemente a razão de deposição de maneira precisa, o que proporciona um controle da camada depositada. Isto faz deste 2 método uma alternativa eficiente para a deposição de filmes metálicos, passível de ser utilizado em muitos ramos de pesquisa. Atentando-se a este fato, realizou-se uma aplicação do estudo dos filmes depositados sobre polímero, alterando-se a corrente ou a voltagem do alvo independentemente. Para isso depositaram-se filmes de Al e Inconel (liga de níquel cromo) sobre Mylar®, um tipo de PET (poli (Tereftalato de etileno)), com a finalidade de investigar o comportamento deste filme quanto as suas características de atenuação de energia eletromagnética incidente. Esta aplicação é bastante vasta envolvendo equipamentos aeronáuticos, radares, e outros. Conhecida a razão de deposição da condição utilizada, pode-se alterar a espessura do filme obtido variando-se o tempo de deposição. Assim, fez-se um estudo da influência da espessura da camada e do material que constitui o filme (Al ou Inconel) nas características de atenuação de energia da onda eletromagnética. De acordo com os estudos, pode-se verificar que a espessura da camada depositada, e o material do filme influenciam nas características atenuadoras, sendo que os filmes de Al e Inconel depositados apresentaram uma atenuação de no máximo 13% . Isto nos leva a crer que filmes metálicos podem ser utilizados com materiais absorvedores de radiação eletromagnética, desde que se conheça a espessura ideal de trabalho e outras características intrínsecas do mesmo.

The main aim of this master's thesis is to implement a common, secure and peer-to-peer communication system. The system has ability to automatically establish and run a secure end-to-end connection. It has this ability even if a network address translator is in the way to the destination system, without need of any explicit configuration of this translator. The security procedures of this system are in a transparent manner masked from individual applications, which had to solve this challenge in their own way. A responsibility for a security is delegate to an application-independent subsystem working within the core of an operating system. The security of this subsystem is based on capturing the outbound and inbound IP packets and their authentication and encryption. The system was successfully implemented in MS Windows XP operating system, in programming language C++. Transfer rate of communication tunnel in different network bandwidth speeds was measured. Result shows, that in the case of use the system on standard PC sold nowadays is practically no decrease of the transfer rate in comparison to a common channel.

A segurança alimentar é uma necessidade fundamental e de grande preocupação pública em todo o mundo. A Organização Mundial de Saúde (WHO) recomenda o Estudo de Dieta Total (EDT) como sendo o método mais adequado de estimativa para as ingestões de contaminantes e nutrientes para um país ou grandes grupos populacionais. A implantação de um estudo relacionando a ingestão de alimentos em uma Região de Elevada Radioatividade Natural (HBRA) motivou o presente estudo, uma vez que no planalto de Poços de Caldas há ocorrência de anomalias radiativas com concentrações naturais significativas de urânio e tório. O presente estudo teve por objetivo avaliar e comparar as ingestões de elementos essenciais, tóxicos e radionuclídeos, a partir dos alimentos que compõem as dietas das populações urbana e rural, da cidade de Poços de Caldas. As determinações das concentrações dos elementos essenciais e tóxicos foram realizadas aplicando-se a técnica de análise por ativação neutrônica (As, Ca, Cl, Co, Cr, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na e Zn), espectrometria de absorção atômica com forno de grafite (Cd, Cu e Pb) e por geração de vapor frio (Hg). As determinações dos radionuclídeos foram realizadas aplicando-se as técnicas de análise por espectrometria gama (40K), separação radioquímica seguida de contagem alfa e beta total (210Pb, 226Ra e 228Ra) e espectrometria alfa (210Po, 228Th, 230Th, 232Th, 234U, 235U e 238U). Os grupos de alimentos foram estabelecidos de acordo com os dados de consumo da região sudeste do país, obtidos pela Pesquisa Orçamentária Familiar (POF) 2008-2009 do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE). A lista final totalizou 82 alimentos distribuídos em 20 grupos, incluindo a água, e com massa total de 3,6180 Kg. Com o EDT aplicado para a região do Planalto de Poços de Caldas, foi possível observar que as ingestões diárias média para todos os elementos essenciais na dieta da população urbana apresentaram valores mais elevados quando comparados à dieta da população rural, porém não apresentaram diferenças estatisticamente significativas. As dietas estudadas foram deficientes nos elementos essenciais Ca, K, Mg e Se quando comparadas aos valores de ingestão diária recomendados. Os teores dos elementos tóxicos Cd e Pb no presente estudo estiveram dentro do intervalo relatado pela WHO a partir de EDT realizados em diversos países e/ou diferentes regiões no mundo. A ingestão total do elemento tóxico Hg foi encontrada muito abaixo do limite estabelecido pela WHO. Em relação aos radionuclídeos naturais, o cálculo de dose efetiva comprometida por ingestão da região rural (0,89 mSv/ano) apresentou-se 61% mais elevado quando comparado à região urbana (0,56 mSv/ano). Isto pode ser explicado pelo fato dos maiores pontos de anomalias radioativas estarem localizados na zona rural. Porém, a partir dos valores encontrados no presente estudo não apresentaram níveis que representassem ameaça à saúde da população deste planalto.
Food security is a fundamental need and a great public concern throughout the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the Total Diet Study (TDS) as the most appropriate method of estimating the intake of contaminants and nutrients for a country or large population groups. The implementation of a study relating food intake in a High Background Radiation Area (HBRA) motivated the present study, since in the Poços de Caldas plateau there are occurrences of radiative anomalies with significant natural concentrations of uranium and thorium. Therefore, the objective is to evaluate and to compare the intakes of essential, toxic elements, and radionuclides from the foods that composed the diets of the urban and rural populations of the city. The concentration determination of the essential and toxic elements was performed using the neutron activation analysis (As, Ca, Cl, Co, Cr, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na and Zn) and atomic absorption spectrometry with graphite furnace (Cd, Cu and Pb) and cold vapor atomic (Hg). The determination of radionuclides was performed by gamma spectrometry (40K), radiochemical separation followed by total alpha and beta counting (210Pb, 226Ra and 228Ra) and alpha spectrometry (210Po, 228Th, 230Th, 232Th, 234U, 235U and 238U). The food groups were established according to consumption data from the southeast region of the country obtained by the Household food budget survey POF 2008-2009 by the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The final list contained 82 foods distributed in 20 groups, including drinking water, and with a total mass of 3.6180 kg. The TDS applied to the region of the Poços de Caldas Plateau allowed to observe that the average daily intakes for all the essential elements in the urban population diet presented higher values compared to the diet of the rural population but did not present statistical differences. The essential elements Ca, K, Mg and Se were deficient in the diets studied compared to the recommended daily intake values. The toxic element level of Cd and Pb in the present study were within the range reported by the WHO from TDS conducted in several countries and/or different regions in the world. The total intake of the toxic element Hg was found well below the established limit by WHO. Intake effective dose compromised calculation of the rural region (0.89 mSv/year) was 61% higher compared to the urban region (0.56 mSv/year). This can be explained by the fact that the highest points of radioactive anomalies in the plateau are located in the rural zone, but the values found in the present study do not present levels that represent a threat to the health of the population in this plateau.

Na área da catálise, interações de moléculas pequenas como H2,N2,O2, CO, NO etc, com aglomerados metálicos, têm nas suas adsorções químicas etapa fundamental nas atividades catalíticas. O paládio está entre os metais mais empregados em catalisadores usados em muitos processos catalíticos heterogêneos. Neste presente trabalho foi realizada uma série de cálculos baseado na Teoria do Funcional de Densidade (TFD ou DFT) empregando o método BP86/LANL2DZ/6-311+G(d,p) para estudar a adsorção da molécula NO que foi utilizada como protótipo molecular para interagir sobre aglomerados de paládio puros e dopados com metais de transição da primeira série de transição (Pd3M e Pd9M). Neste contexto, o escopo deste trabalho foi: (i) obter informações a respeito das possíveis alterações estruturais e eletrônicas ocorridas em aglomerados de paládio quando dopados com metais da primeira série de transição (MT), (ii) estudar as alterações no comportamento do átomo de paládio, nos seus respectivos aglomerados puros, frente aos aglomerados dopados com metais de transição da primeira série,(iii) buscar possíveis padrões de influência dos MT nas propriedades de aglomerados de paládio (ex: energias dos orbitais de fronteira, transferências eletrônicas de doação e retrodoação, densidades de spin, hibridizações dos orbitais responsáveis pelas ligações com moléculas adsorventes etc). Após a realização dos cálculos baseados na DFT, os resultados mostram que, para o estudo sobre os aglomerados contendo quatro átomos, foi obtida correlação direta entre a carga adquirida pelo metal M dentro do aglomerado metálico e os orbitais moleculares de fronteira LUMO calculados para Pd3M. Esta correlação direta não se mantém quando o tamanho do aglomerado de paládio é aumento de quatro para dez átomos. A energia de adsorção apresentada pela molécula de NO apresenta boa correlação com a energia do LUMO, independentemente do número de átomos e da geometria do aglomerado e da natureza do metal dopante. A molécula de NO adsorve mais favoravelmente no modo Bridge, independentemente de qual metal está dopando o aglomerado de Pd9M. Entretanto, para o aglomerado de Pd3M, o modo de adsorção dependerá da natureza do metal dopante. A mudança na geometria e no número de átomos de paládio existentes no aglomerado provoca mudanças no modo e na energia de adsorção da molécula de NO adsorvente. Uma investigação mais aprofundada deve encontrar outras possíveis correlações entre propriedades dos metais da primeira série e aglomerados de paládio dopados com os mesmos

SUD remains a significant public health problem with limited evidence-based treatment options available for many individuals. This chapter provides a review of integrative treatment approaches for stimulant use disorder, including current literature on evidence-based behavioral interventions, pharmacotherapy, and complementary and alternative treatments (CAM) for both cocaine and amphetamine use. Current epidemiology, physical and mental health effects, and public health impacts, of these disorders is also discussed. The chapter provides an overview of current mainstream treatments for these disorders and challenges that have been faced in developing effective treatment modalities. With the relative paucity of available traditional treatments, the chapter seeks to explore the evidence for the use of such CAM treatments as acupuncture, exercise, yoga, transmagnetic cranial stimulation (TMS), meditation, and N-acetylcysteine (NAC).

Główną zmienną wyjaśnianą jest liczba przedsiębiorstw wpisanych do bazy REGON na 10 tys. mieszkańców. Najważniejszymi zmiennymi wyjaśniającymi są kapitał ludzki, kapitał społeczny, obecność w aglomeracji wojewódzkiej i turystyka. Niniejsza książka może być przyczynkiem dla dalszego rozwoju nauk o przedsiębiorczości i może pozwolić na spojrzenie na przedsiębiorczość lokalną z perspektywy innej niż dotychczasowa. Raksta mērķis ir identificēt tos militārās drošības sektora draudu veidus, kurus Latvijas iedzīvotāji uzskata par aktuālākajiem, un tādus mainīgos lielumus kā ārējais apdraudējums, Nacionālie bruņotie spēki un sabiedroto spēku klātbūtne. Veiktā analīze ļauj secināt, ka, iedzīvotāju ieskatā, ārējais apdraudējums pastāv un ka vairums aptaujāto uzskata Krieviju par galveno draudu, un tikai atsevišķos gadījumos sabiedroto spēku klātbūtne (NATO) būtu atzīstama par apdraudējumu. Arī Nacionālo bruņoto spēku veidotās infrastruktūras tuvums daļai iedzīvotāju raisa nedrošības sajūtu, galvenokārt tādēļ, ka pastāv potenciāli Krievijas uzbrukuma draudi šiem objektiem. Kopumā iedzīvotājiem militārā drošība nav prioritāra, svarīgākie draudu veidi, viņuprāt, ir labklājības un ekonomiskā sektora draudi. No pašvaldības darbinieku viedokļa galvenais nedrošības avots ir Krievija, savukārt sabiedroto spēku klātbūtne ir drošību veicinošs faktors. Analizējot pašvaldību veidotos civilās aizsardzības plānus, tikai vienā pašvaldībā bija iezīmēta vispārēja rīcība militāras krīzes gadījumā, un tas liek secināt, ka pašvaldības nav gatavas šādas krīzes pārvarēšanai un paļaujas uz valdības rīcību.

The low resolution of infrared images makes it more difficult to detect objects, and the quality of detection results obtained by the CNN based object detection model are worse for few-shot problems. Two-stage Fine-tune Approach (TFA) is effective to improve the precision of detection for few-shot problems. Because of the category imbalance of training samples, TFA has the problem of misclassification. To solve this problem, TFA with similarity contrast (SC-TFA) is proposed. The VOVNetv2 is used as the backbone network to improve the detection accuracy. The similarity contrast detection head is added to the detection module to improving the classify performance. And both cosine similarity and Euclidean distance are used as the similarity measure in the contrast loss function. The effectiveness of the improved TFA for the few-shot problem is verified on the VOC dataset and the infrared ship dataset. The average precision of the novel categories (nAP) of SC-TFA on VOC dataset and the infrared ship dataset reaches 54.92% and 41.1% respectively, which is 4.7% and 3.4% higher than TFA.

Rakstā tiek iepazīstināts ar maģistra darba “Hanzas vēstures attēlojums Latvijas muzeju un ekspozīciju komunikācijā no 1991. līdz 2020. gadam” galvenajiem secinājumiem par Hanzas attēlojumu galvenajos vēstures medijos – muzejos – mūsdienās. Darba gaitā tika aplūkoti Latvijas muzeji un ekspozīcijas un analizēts šo ekspozīciju Hanzas vēstures attēlojums, vērtējot tajās atspoguļotās informācijas atbilstību konkrētām historiogrāfijas tendencēm un mūsdienu pētnieciskajām nostādnēm. Pētījumā tika secināts, ka Latvijas muzejos mūsdienās nav bijusi iespēja gūt aktuālu informāciju par Hanzas vēsturi mūsdienīgās ekspozīcijās un tas ir ietekmējis arī sabiedrības priekšstatus par šo vēstures fenomenu.

Direktīva 2004/113/EK, kura prasa nodrošināt sievietēm un vīriešiem vienlīdzīgu piekļuvi precēm un pakalpojumiem, tika pieņemta 2004. gadā. Tā bija jāievieš līdz 2007. gada 21. decembrim. Neskatoties uz to, ka ir pagājuši jau 13 gadi, kopš dzimumvienlīdzīgai piekļuvei precēm un pakalpojumiem bija jādarbojas praksē, līdztiesība šajā jomā gana bieži netiek nodrošināta. Tas skaidrojams ar to, ka līdz šim nav bijis izvērstākas diskusijas par līdztiesību šajā jomā ne no atbildīgo institūciju puses, nedz arī plašākā sabiedrībā, līdz ar to ievērojama daļa preču pārdevēju un pakalpojumu sniedzēju par šo tiesisko regulējumu neko nezina. Lai pievērtu uzmanību jautājumam par dzimumlīdztiesīgu piekļuvi precēm un pakalpojumiem un šo tiesību nodrošināšanu praksē, šajā rakstā autore pievēršas, pirmkārt, Direktīvas 2004/113/EK materiālā un personālā tvēruma un galveno jēdzienu skaidrošanai, otrkārt, problēmām, kuras saistītas ar šo tiesību nodrošināšanu praksē, un, treškārt, analizē šīs direktīvas normu ieviešanu Latvijas tiesiskajā regulējumā. Autore secina, ka Direktīva 2004/113/EK Latvijā nav ieviesta pilnīgi, jo tiesiskais regulējums neietver tās privātās personas, kuras piedāvā preces un pakalpojumus ārpus savas profesionālās darbības jomas. Turklāt apdrošināšanas jomā nav skaidrs, vai visās apdrošināšanas polisēs būtu obligāti iekļaujami riski, kuri saistīti ar grūtniecību un maternitāti. Ir apšaubāmi, vai, nenodrošinot nevienu šo tiesību ievērošanas administratīvās kontroles mehānismu, tiek ievērots ES tiesību aizsardzības līdzekļu efektivitātes princips.

With the advantages of high reliability, high power density and long life, small nuclear power reactor has become one of the most excellent space power options in the space missions. TOPAZ-II is the most mature space nuclear power reactor based on thermionic conversion. In this paper, the thermo-physical and transport properties of NaK-78 and heat transfer correlations for liquid metals are implemented into the RELAP5 code. The modified RELAP5 has already been accessed to analyze the thermal-hydraulic characteristics of the space reactor cooled by NaK-78. A RELAP5 model including the core, TFEs, radiator, coolant loop and volume accumulator is developed. Temperature reactivity feedback, TFE emitter, TFE collector, moderator and the reactivity insertion effects of control drums and safety drums are modeled in the point reactor kinetics equations with six-group delayed neutrons. To V&V the integrated TOPAZ-II system model, the steady state is simulated and analyzed. The steady state calculated results are in good agreement with the designed values. On the basis of V&V, a hypothetical reactivity insertion accident is simulated and analyzed. During the accident, the automatic control system is assumed to be malfunctioned, 0.01$ positive reactivity is introduced for 500s and then control drums start to rotate inward. The maximum temperatures of fuel and emitter are below the melting temperature, respectively. The maximum temperature of coolant is 940K with 160K margin from boiling. With the rotating of control drums, the reactor reaches critical again.

O MeTA busca promover o entendimento de acessibilidade sob uma perspectiva inclusiva, oferecendo diretrizes para capacitar e instrumentalizar avaliadores envolvidos com a seleção de TEs. O método foi avaliado em diferentes contextos e um site foi desenvolvido para apoiar sua disseminação e uso. Os resultados indicaram a utilidade e facilidade de uso do MeTA para apoiar a avaliação de TEs acessíveis e produziram insumos para seu aperfeiçoamento.

Thermal energy storage (TES) system integrated with concentrated solar power provides the benefits of extending power production, eliminating intermittency issues, and reducing system LOCE. Infinia Corporation is under the contract with DOE in developing TES systems. The goal for one of the DOE sponsored TES projects is to design and build a TES system and integrate it with a 3 KWe free-piston Stirling power generator. The Phase Change Material (PCM) employed for the designed TES system is a eutectic blend of NaF and NaCl which has a melt temperature of 680° C and energy storage capacity of 12 KWh. This PCM was selected due to its low cost and desired melting temperature. This melt temperature ensures the Stirling being operated at designed operating hot end temperature. The latent heat of this eutectic PCM offers 5 to 10 times the energy density of a typical molten salt. The technical challenges associated with low cost molten salt TES systems are the low thermal conductivity of the salt and large thermal expansion. To address these challenges, an array of sodium filled Heat Pipes (HP) is embedded in the PCM to enhance the heat transfer from solar receiver to PCM and from PCM to Stirling engine. The oversized dish provides sufficient thermal energy to operate a 3KWe Stirling engine at full power and to charge up the TES. The HP arrays are optimally distributed so that the solar energy is transferred directly from receiver to Stirling engine heat receiver. During the charge phase, the Stirling engine absorbs and converts the transferred solar energy to electricity and the excess thermal energy is re-directed and stored to PCM. The stored energy is transferred via distributed HP from PCM to Stirling engine heat receiver during discharge phase. The HP based PCM thermal energy storage system was designed, built, and performance tested in laboratory. The TES/engine assembly was tested in two different orientations representing the extremes of system operation when mounted on sun-tracking dish, horizontal and vertical. Horizontal represents the zero elevation at sun rise and the vertical represents the extreme of solar noon. The testing allows the examination of orientation effect on the heat pipe performance and the maximum charge and discharge rates. The total energy stored and extracted was also examined. The areas for further system refinements were identified and discussed.

Hybrid full spectrum solar systems (FSSS) designed to capture and convert the full solar wavelength spectrum use hybrid solar photovoltaic/thermodynamic cycles that require low thermal exergy loss systems capable of transferring high thermal energy rates and fluxes with very low temperature differentials and losses. One approach to achieving this capability are high-heat-flux reflux boiling systems that take advantage of high heat transfer boiling and condensation mechanisms. Advanced solar systems are also intermittent by their nature and their electrical generation is often out-of-phase with electric utility power demand, and their required power system cycling reduces efficiency, performance (dispatchability), lifetime, and reliability. High temperature thermal energy storage (TES) at 300–600°C enables these reflux boiling systems to simultaneously store thermal energy internally to increase the energy dispatchability of the associated solar system, as this can increase the power generation profile by several hours (up to 6–10 hours) per day. Many TES phase change materials (PCM’s) exist including KNO3, NaNO3, LiBr/KBr, MgCl2/NaCl/KCl, Zn/Mg, and CuCl/NaCl, which have various operating melting points and different latent heats of fusion. Common, cost effective TES PCM’s are FeCl2/NaCl/KCl mixtures, whose phase change temperature can be varied and controlled by simple composition adjustments. This paper presents and discusses unique “temperature-staged” thermal energy storage configurations using these TES materials and analysis of such systems integrated into high-heat-flux reflux boiling systems. In this specific application, the TES materials are designed to operate at staged temperatures surrounding an operating design point near 350°C, while providing 18 kW of source heat transfer to operate a thermoacoustic power system during off-sun conditions (e.g., temporary cloud conditions, after sun-down). This work discusses relevant configurations, and critical thermal and entropy models of the TES configurations, which show the inherent minimization of thermal exergy during critical heat transfers within the configurations and systems envisioned.

A desirable feature of concentrated solar power system is to provide electricity in a dispatchable manner during cloud transients and non-daylight hours. A Dish-Stirling concentrating solar power prototype demonstration system was built to incorporate a thermal energy storage (TES) module containing a phase-change material between the solar thermal receiver and the Stirling engine. This paper presents the results of a material compatibility study conducted to determine the suitability of two different metal alloys for use in the construction of the TES module. Key requirements of the materials include strength and corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures, commercial availability, and manufacturability using common fabrication methods. The TES module contains a NaCl/NaF eutectic salt, at temperatures ranging from local ambient to 700°C, where the salt is slightly superheated above its melt temperature. Sample containers made from SS316L and Inconel 625 were fabricated and thoroughly cleaned for compatibility studies based on an extensive literature review. Both the containers and the salt constituents were subjected to a bake-out cycle to drive off moisture, and permit outgassing of contaminants. The containers were filled with salt in a controlled-atmosphere glove box. Filled containers were crimped and sealed by electron-beam welding. The finished samples were placed in a furnace, heated, and held at 750°C. One of each sample container material was removed from the furnace at both 100 and 2500 hours. The containers were cut open to analyze and evaluate the material surface and cross-section. After 100 hours, both SS316L and Inconel 625 exhibited a very small amount of corrosion. The stainless steel suffered a shallow inter-granular grain boundary attack, on the order of 1–2 mm in depth. The Inconel 625 surface formed an oxide complex, which is resistant to dissolution into the molten salt. After 2500 hours, the surface morphology for both materials was largely unchanged, with the corrosion process having switched from an initial localized pattern, to a more uniform pattern. The corrosion depth measured at 2500 hours remained near 1–2 mm, suggesting that the corrosion rate decelerated. Both materials showed promise for compatibility with the chosen salt.

Abstract A thermocline thermal energy storage (TES) tank is the key element of storing thermal energy for concentrated solar power (CSP) plants. This paper focuses on the numerical analysis of the single-phase thermal energy storage (TES) and the two-phase latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) for single-layered and multi-layered phase change materials (MLPCMs) using molten salt, FLiNaK, a eutectic mixture of 46.5%LiF, 11.5%NaF, and 42% KF as the heat transfer fluid. The heat transfer module for the computational domain is analyzed using the Dispersion-Concentric model which is based on energy equations and is solved by the finite element method. The results of the TES were compared with that of an existing numerical study in the literature, and they were found to be reasonably in agreement. The high thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity offered to the LHTES by the PCMs result in the best charging and discharging thermal cycle. The study helps us to understand the thermal behavior of temperature inside the tank for different PCMs and from the comparative thermal analysis of the study, it is possible to choose the best PCM among the alternatives.

Abstract High viscosity friction reducers (HVFRs) have been recently gaining more attention and increasing in use, not only as friction-reducing agents but also as proppant carriers. Reusing of produced water has also been driven by both environmental and economic benefits. In Marcellus Shale regions, slickwater fracturing fluids are commonly used, which reduce the number of fluid additives required and foster high retained conductivity but require high water volumes and pumping rate. In contrast, HVFRs can also exhibit high retained conductivity with less water and horsepower required and much more other operational and economical advantages. Currently, most friction reducers on the market are anionic friction reducers, which are fully compatible with most produced water with low to medium level of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) but show significant decreasing at high TDS conditions in term of their friction reduction performance in most cases. Concerns remain about performances of using anionic HVFRs with produced water to transport proppant. The ultimate objective of this experimental study is to investigate whether increasing loading of the anionic HVFR can compensate the side effects of high TDS and temperature in Marcellus Shale formation. Anionic HVFRs at 4, 6, and 8 gallons per thousand gallons (GPT) were selected and analyzed. The rheology measurement of different concentrations of anionic HVFRs were conducted with deionized (DI) water, high TDS Marcellus Shale formation water, and 30,000 mg/L NaCl solution at temperature of 60 °C. Static and dynamic proppant settling tests were conducted with various HVFR concentrations at high TDS and temperature conditions. The results showed that high TDS and temperature decreased the viscous and elastic profiles of the anionic HVFR. In particular, the elastic profile became negligible. Differences between monovalent and divalent cations effects on the rheology properties and proppant transport capability of the anionic HVFR were also negligible at high TDS and temperature conditions. Increasing loading of the anionic HVFR had very limited effects on improving its rheology properties and further proppant transport capabilities at Marcellus Shale formation conditions. Therefore, future study can be focused on modifying proppant, such as sizes and concentrations, and slurry injection rate to get better fracturing results in Marcellus Shale formation.

O trabalho é resultado de uma pesquisa qualitativa do tipo estudo de caso, que teve como base empírica o cadastro das propostas de criação do REA para o desenvolvimento do Trabalho Final de Curso (TFC), o Projeto Pedagógico do Curso e o regulamento. A concepção e a trajetória do curso demonstram o potencial de inovação que a criação de Recursos Educacionais Abertos no desenvolvimento do TFC trouxe para o processo formativo a distância, que teve foco na autoria e no desenvolvimento de conteúdos nas áreas em que os cursistas já atuavam, demonstrando que é possível e necessário pensar em práticas mais abertas que envolvam colaboração, criatividade e disseminação do acesso ao conhecimento.

Territórios Indígenas (TIs) na Amazônia protegem aproximadamente 24.5 gigatoneladas de carbono (GtC) acima do solo, atuam como barreiras significativas contra o desmatamento e a degradação florestal, e funcionam como importantes amortecedores contra as mudanças climáticas. TIs demarcadas apresentam desmatamento significativamente menor do que terras não reconhecidas oficialmente, demonstrando a importância de se demarcar TIs tanto para proteger os meios de subsistência e as culturas dos povos nativos da Amazônia, quanto para conservar suas florestas e rios.
